PNC Bank

Richard of Beaver, PA October 8, 2009

The same overdraft extortion that has hit so many other people. I changed banks and removed my money from PNCBANK. They can burn in hell. They are crooks. Why sugarcoat it? It's intentional and planned.

paul of california, KY October 7, 2009

in may of 2009 i borrowed 3,000 dollars from my 401k to build a room on my home for my terminaly ill son. i recieved my check in june 2009 from there i went to deposit my check in the bank. i was told i could draw up to 1,000 dollars out. so i could start work on my room. so on saturday i started no problem. watched what i spent did not go over spent 900 dollars on materials.

so by the next weekend i spent 300 dollars more. then spent 200 more @ walmart etc. then went to get more supplies knowing my paycheck of 900 more dollars had also gone into the bank as well! i noticed on my next material purchas of around 100 dollars. as i swiped my debit the transaction took longer than usual seemed strang but no red flag and the next couple of times aswell. still no red flag!

the followng week i get my bank statement stating i had no money and i owed somthing like 6 overdraft @ 36.00 dollars for each plus 7.00 dollars a day up to 5 days. when my wife questioned this the bank said she just was not good with money! i can agree to some extent but she is not that bad!

fast forward one month later my check of 900 dollars goes in direct deposit on tuesday night 12:00 clock. on wednesday afternoon i had 300 dollars. the bank had taken 600 dollars of my very hard earned money in overdraft fees! so i went to the bank personaly to speek to the manager and ask her to tell me where the money had gone. she danced around the issue at hand and once again she said look your wife is just bad with money she just dont get it! i suggest you get rid of your debit cards! so i did.

i was under the assumption that on my debit card when you were out of money your card would be declined. that is what i wanted i did not care about being embaressed @ the register so what! i verbaly tould them @the bank this is what i wanted and i never once was told there was an opt out of overdraft protection i had to sign! i most certianly would have signed up! 20 some odd overdrafts later!

On September 9th at 6:29pm I made a withdrawel from the bank for 200 I have the transaction receipt that say there was an available balance of 1100 in my account. The next day my account was -800. which included 12 36 charges for overdraft items. There was one check that put all of the other very minor charges over limit. This check was deposited by the recipient the day after a holiday. This particular check gets cashed every month ad in four years has always showed pending and has always taken 24 hours to post. Of course the only time in history that it has ever cleared the day it was deposited without showing pending the bank makes 432 off of me. Clearly I am not well off. My son has a medical condition which is out of pocket 600 a month. I have no problem paying for the check that should have bounce, that was an error on my part, but there is no way that that check should have cleared the same day, but there is no reason why I should have an ATM receipt saying that I have an available balance at 6:30pm only to have my online statement say something different. It is my firm belief that the bank in not processing items when they come in , but holding them until they stand to make money. I also ordered checks from the bank and received said checks before the item was charged, shockingly I was charged an overdraft fee for those items as well.

I had been overcharged for uniforms that I purchased for my daughter. The store was supposed to credit the extra charge, and ended up not doing it in time which resulted in overdraft charges on my acct. The total of transactions paid was 69 and some change. The total number of items paid was 10. Pnc charged me 10 36 od fees for the issue. Then the 4 items still pending were assessed 36 od fees as well on the same day I made a deposit for 425.o0. They refuse to credit any fees and I am at 504v in fees for a total of 69.00 in items paid. That is ridiculous. We have an ill child that is costing us hundreds in medical expenses, and rather than work with us because they are aware the store made a mistake, they are making me pay. I have reached out to the DM and still have not even gotten a call back! I attemtped to escalate through the OOP but no one will give me the number or address, in the branch or through the 800 number. They have made mistakes on my acct before and I was forgiving of them, but they can not work with me on an issue that is not even my fault. With today's economy is the right thing to do to charge 504 for 69.00 in purchasaes. I hope that they sleep well at night!

More than once this year this bank has held pending charges for over four days and shown untrue available balances in wait for my account to fall below the two or three small charges of gas or fast food, once they ran the pending charges this resulted in a less than five and even four dollar overdraft then running each pending charge and adding the initial overdraft charge as another overdraft and so on until the original 3-5 dollar overdraft resulted in non-sufficient funds charge of over One hundred and fifty dollars. The first time they did this I called them on it and the teller as much as admitted this is a bank trick to raise charges and removed two of them and refunded them to my account. This time the manager told me that knowing how much money is in my account is my responsibility and not PNC Banks.

I asked what would be the purpose of a bank statement from the Bank if they have no responsibility or accountability for how much or what they are doing with my money. I was told that most banks are using these practices now. I'll be closing my account at PNC Bank as soon as the last check I deposited which is a government check clears tomorrow and I have a positive balance. I can only assume they will charge me another day while they decide to make the check clear.

I had been with Yardville National Bank for years then PNC took over what a nightmare! I have paid several HUNDRED dollars in what they call OVERDRAFT Fees! I was short 4.81 cents and theys switched around the way they postpayment to benefit themselves. I check my account every day sometime 2-3- times a day and we use the credit card. I can go to the store 10 min away and by the time I get home it is in PENDING and DEDUCTED from my available balance! As of the past 2 days they have charged me (5) overdraft fees at 36.00 a pop! for what should have been only ONE overdraft fee! and then it was less than 5.00. This bank is a rip-off they also take there money out the second it hits the bank funny that it is available for them! One thing I am sorry for is that I have direct deposit so they get there money first. Something needs to be done with this it is not a fair practice when you see in pending and they have deducted it out of your balance. If its out its out! No matter how you cut it with the money that was there and the moneyies in pending I was still short 4.81 no matter how they posted the 3 pending charges! I would not have anyone use this bank! EVER!!!!

I check my account on a daily basis online and on a Tuesday morning I noticed 5 NSF fees in the amount of 36 each placed on my account. I use Quicken and also PNC online to track my accounts and didn't have an overdrawn account. Went to the branch to figure this out and apparently due to the PENDING CHARGES on my account over the weekend, it resulted in NSF fees.

PNC Bank does not PROCESS/POST any charges to a person's account on a Sat. or Sun., but posts all weekend activity on Monday evenings for all weekend charges, HOWEVER, takes your PENDING CHARGES immediately out of your account and off your total balance. YOU DO NOT SEE this occurence because their online banking DOES NOT show this. My account was NEVER overdrawn, however, they STILL took these NSF fees out of 36 each.

Andrew/Joanne of Franklin Park, NJ August 5, 2009

PNC Bank tells people that they don't require Account holders to keep 100.00 dayly Balance in their Account. Which is a lye.Their ATM Machine is hardly ever correct with dayly Balances because it cannot upgrade instantly. When the balance shows more, you better count on having less of a Balance. And you better know you have enough to cover charges that goes against the ATM PNC Debit Card.) Or PNC will Charge You 7.00 every day. And you have to pay the bALANCCE IN fULL or PNC Bank won't allow you to close the Account.

Forget about "Overdrawn Protection" (That is another way PNC Bank will take more of your money, I learned The Hard Way And I Will Never, Ever, Have Any Account Again With PNC Bank.

We have been trying to close on a 4.875% refinancing rate with John Meagher since April. He asked for a 395 application fee up front to lock in the rate. Two months later he says that we are denied based on a high debt-to-income ratio. We re-negotiate with him, offering to put down a very large sum of money left form the sale of the previous house. He agrees and asks for two different bank statements in order to prove income. Also, credit reports and extensive background checks are done.

A week before the closing date, he says that there is an error in the paperwork and the loan was approved for a higher amount than we needed. We have to re-sign a contract and submit a third bank statement proving income. How is it that they approved us for a higher amount, but now need more proof of income when the loan amount is reduced? It is now August and we still have not closed on this ordeal.

I recently was charged 252.00 is NSF charges when my account was not overdrawn and PNC refuses to remove the charges. I had a balance of 355 and some change left in my account 7/27/2009 as my available balance which included pending payments. I had written two checks totaling 325.00 that had yet to post. That day I credited a copay of 10.00 and Sunday 7/29/2009, I credited 52.68 and a transaction of 10.00. PNC still had these payments as pending and charged me NSF charges for them as well as payments that were already showing as pending when I had an available balance of 355.

Around 1:00am Monday I had already transferred funds from my savings account to my checking account(which was available immediately) to cover the pending credits so my account had a positive balance of over 1000 before the pending items were submitted for payment 7/29/2009. Previously when this happened in March I spoke with a young lady who refunded me NSF charges when it happened the first time. As I was checking my statements for the past few months I have received numerous NSF charges when my account has had a positive balance.

Not only that, but the pending transactions that I had on Friday were already accounted for in my available balance of 355.00 but I was also charged NSF fees for those when they posted because PNC did not post them in the order that they occurred like they show in the available balance so that they could maximize the NSF charges. Over the last few months, I have paid a another 300+ in NSF fees when I had a positive balance.

Not to mention, the available balance that PNC keeps track by the date and time of the transaction, but PNC posts the transactions from the biggest to the smallest, so the information they provide on the site is not consistent.
