National City Bank

Tracy of lancaster, OH September 30, 2009

I was having some theft from my checking account, close to 3000.00. National City closed that account and opened up a new one. I asked if my account would have the same 2500.00 overdraft protection and was told yes. If would I would go into the overdraft, when my husband's automatic deposit went in, it would take care of the amount that went into the overdraft. The new account did not do that, I was supposed to make a separate payment of the amount that went into the overdraft. This got my account so off balanced, that every transaction we made for 3 days, we were charged 34.00 for each transaction. They charged us 34.00 20 times. I received notice in the mail 2 days after this happened. We told the bank we had no idea it had changed, our account was supposed to be like the old one. They said there was nothing they could do. We are also being charged 8.00 a day until we got our balance back up to 0. We have been a customer for about 15 years and treated horribly.

Leslie of Erie, PA September 25, 2009

I am a nursing student at Edinboro univerisy in Erie, Pa and I received a financial aid refund check from Edinboro. I usually cash these types of checks at my bank, national city. This check was for the amount of 3114.94. Before I cashed the check I had an available balance of 232.00. I went into the National City branch located at State Street in Erie, Pa to cash the check.

What I did was deposit 2000.94 of the funds and got back 1114.00 in cash. The teller never entered into the computer the full amount of the check instead just entered the deposit amount of 2000.94. He told me that the 2000.94 would not be available until Septemebr 22, 2009. But he told me my available was 232.00 and current balance was 2232.94. Well, when I checked my account there was a negative -937 balance by Saturday, as I heard this I went into the bank branch on 12th and Pittsburgh to verify my funds, the bank advsior there told me that the money should be taken off my account by 9/22/09.

When Tuesday September 22nd came around, I had been charged a 34 overdraft fee, and my cash reserve of 250.00 was advanced to me to make my account 2317.00 which made no sense. The teller causes my account to be overdrawn when he didn't enter the full amount of the check, in which the bank held the funds of 3114.94 and used the 2000.94 as my check amount.

The way the bank did it was so deceiving because the transactions are so screwed up that you cannot even trace how they stole the money. I also had a pending credit of 82.95 in which western union credited back to my account but national city took that too and did not document that on my account. I have been hung up on and disrespected by staff and the dispute agents when I ask to dispute the charges, they state there is nothing they can do. With all the charges, and false overdraft fees I suspect that national city stole at least 400.00 from me total. I have my receipts to further prove my case because when you just read it, it sounds confusing but that is there technique to steal money.

I recorded a chat betweeen myself, national city and western union to give you an example of how bad national city lies. The national city rep is Justin and the western union rep is Nelly G just so you can understand the way National City is so careless and cruel about stealing your money. There is some overlapping when I recorded them but you will get the point. I cant explain all the details to you like I want to because I am so angry but I have evidence and I will put it together to pinpoint exactly how they stole this money. They are very evil and part of the beast, the government wants a one world economy so that they control our every move through money and they will be successful if we don't fight back.

Gary of Mount Morris, MI September 24, 2009

National City charged 35.00 for a 7.00 over account fee. No wonder the banks are making a profit, off the fee's and they know it! WE NEED a consumer protection law tto protect us from these practice's . The banks are now back pedding to calm the customers. Not good enough, PASS the LAWS NOW!

parris of north augusta, SC September 22, 2009

I explained that I moved from Ohio to South Carolina and that my mail was behind a few days. In the process of me trying to get my new account opened in SC. I overdrew my National City account. I made a deposit to get my account current and the next day I was negative another 103. I had a thirty four dollar overdraft charge for a returned .66 transaction but a 35 transaction was cleared the same time.

I don't mind paying my overdraft fees but I think this case was extreme. Since I have no way to get money put into this account at National City Bank with out another fee occuring I closed my accounts with this bank. I had to pay overdraft charges that I felt could have been forgiven. I had banked with this company for a long time.

Adam of Fayetteville, OH September 6, 2009

I bank with National City, which was acquired by PNC after they received a bailout. There were two overdraft fees of 36 and it was not to my calculations although my balance was low. The activity reported to me and any statement data simply did not show any cause for fees whatsoever. Yet I simply took their word for it online and deposited 160, that is what would cover it and then some. The balance was covered the next day...no further pending transactions showing and none made by me. It was 19.** available, the next day 45.**.

The next day some dates and postings seemed to be jumbled in my activity page online and I got two more 36 charges. This time I would have to deposit another 100. The account activity page somehow jumps from a positive balance to an overdraft fee. It leaves out any details. A reply letter to you only gives their fortunate ill-logical outcome. This bank apparently takes money when it needs it.

The computers can easily be programmed to target lower balances and those more probable accounts that could be charged fees. There is no oversight from the government for computer systems that can automatically benefit the bank, not to mention any regulations of this "info tech" kind. If you know anything about very basic computer programming you know it can easily be manipulated to automatically charge fees; without you getting any details.

All of this leaves you only the option of changing banks. they are counting on folks trusting in them again as to not bother...hoping it won't happen again. then it usually happens twice in a week as did me.

HEATHER of MINOOKA, IL July 15, 2009

I made a deposit Monday morning before the bank opened. I put 360 cash and 135 in checks thru thr ATM. They did not honor my cash deposit. They said it would not be good until the following day. I was told cash is cash and available immediatly. They charged me 34.00 x five on overdrafts. Less than 100.00 in charges. My cash deposit should have covered it. They told me there is nothing they can do. I have to deposit cash with a teller or in the night deposit. This is not the first time I have had problems with this bank, but it will be the last. If I waited 30 more minutes when thr bank actually opened this would have never happened. This was some bill money I am so pissed off I cant see straight if there is a lawyer out there that can do something please let me know.

Andy of Indianapolis, IN June 22, 2009

The main office in Kalamazoo MI sent me a letter stating they had made my CD a dormant account and were reverting the money to an undisclosed state government. I had 30 days from the letter date to respond. When I went to get my money, I first found out that it would not mature until 2010, and then when I took it out, they charged me a penalty for early withdrawal.

I understand they are in trouble in Missouri for doing this. Evidently, the state cannot find the individual, and the money goes to the bank...even though the party may be in the military, or in my case - live very close to the bank. How can they have it both ways? The CD hadn't even matured, yet they were going to declare it domant and take my CD.

I talked to the manager about 10 days ago. Bessie said she didn't know what was going on, and would get back to me about paying me back to me the penalty for early withdrawal.

Alexander of Munich, Germany May 16, 2009

I opened a checking acount with National City Bank in 1998. After I moved to Germany, I maintained this account and used it for my travels to the US. Before I travelled to the US this month, I wired further funds onto my account and called the branch and inquired if the money had arrived and if there were any issues, e.g. if account and checking card were activated. I was told, everything is fine.

After arriving in the US I had to notice the opposite. My card was rejected, I could neither get money out of ATMs nor use it to pay in the supermarket. So I called customer service. They told me that my card was not activated (for no reason). Apparently, they activated it and said now I could use it.

Next day, same result, the card did not work. So I called customer service again. Now they told me that the card was activated, but the account was on dormant status since I hadn't used it for some time. In order to lift this dormant status, I should write a check. Only that I didn't bring any checks with me. The guy from the customer service told me that he was not authorized to lift this dormant status. This could only be done by people of the branch. And it was Friday afternoon (Pacific time), so I was not able to reach anybody from the branch where I opened my account. Customer service admitted (!) that he could not help me.

So as a result, although I have money on my account I was unable to access it - despite the fact that supposedly everything was OK with my account and checking card. I had to use my German credit card, thereby triggering additional fees. This is so unprofessional for a bank. And frustrating as a customer. Out of 3 people of the customer service 2 are either completely incompetent or the just lied to me. This behavior is inacceptable. And let to quite some emotional distress.

reba of carmel, IN May 4, 2009

deposited by atm. took them 3 days to post. overdrafted me at the bottom, which meant 3 overdrafts instead of one which might be legitimate if it took 3 days to post at atm deposit. also charged overdraft because retailer made a mistake in entering information and immediately corrected it but this joe moore says there is nothing he can do.

i receive a 530 pension. they have taken 269 in overdrafts. i can hardly pay my bills as is. i have watched every day to make sure they haven't tried something new and still---- this is the third outrageous incident.
