Dell Talks Back

Marilee of Allyn WA (11/26/08)
In 2004 my husband abandoned me and moved to CA. Without my knowledge he purchased a computer from Dell using my credit. I reported this ID theft to the police and gave Dell the Police report #. My lawyer said we were legally separated and I told the police that. We were in the middle of a police investigation regarding my husband so I could not file the divorce papers right away. He's serving time now, and 4 years later Dell is still trying to collect from me even though they've been given plenty of documentation to Dell. I've made no headway. I've spoken to our attorney general, Dell supervisors, etc., and got nada.

This is putting continual dings on my credit report over and over each time they resell this collection. I just laughed when I recently saw that Michael Dell was Mr. P.C. and cared what his customers thought. I live in an extended family with MANY potential Dell computer users that will never bring a dell into this house.

I was leasing a dell laptop and printer for my business. The computer crashed 3 1/2 months before the end of the lease. I called and got a new system inwhich the old system was to be closed out and returned. I never recieved the return instructions and have called and emailed several times about the situation. In the mean time, I have been being charged each month for both computer systems. I keep being told that I have three accounts and they are all past due. When I told them I have been paying these bills and apparently the payments are going to the old system which I thought was closed out.

They will not apply my payments to the correct acct. and say that I have to still pay for the old system as well because I still have it. I told them it was not my fault that they haven't sent the return info. and I have been requesting it. Why would I pay for a computer that doesn't even work. I asked how much it would be to break my lease. The response I got was, you can return the equipment but you'll have to make the lease payments until the contract is up. What idiot would do that. And the buyout price is ridiculous. Now that my credit is impaired by Dell and the incompetent foreigners that I have to deal with, I will never again do business with Dell.

I'm paying for broken equipment and being charged for two systems. Also, they have messed up my credit.

Dell has refused to lower our Dell Preferred Account as required under the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act. I have spent hours trying to get someone to help me. I spoke with a customer service representitive and he said I needed to fax a letter stating my issue. I asked for a phone number to the Soldiers and Sailors department and he stated that they did not have a phone number just a fax. I faxed a letter a while ago with all my contact information on it so we could resolve this issue but NO ONE will help and NO ONE will lower the interest rate.

Bad thing is - we have faxed orders which have been received stating my husbands name and location of deployment and they say that is not enough that he needs a roster. My husband deployed by himself so there is no roster and the only thing he received is his orders.

I am a single mother right now and this is wasting time on something that could have been resolved a while ago. It is wasting money from calling them and waiting long periods of time trying to get ahold of someone.

It is very hard to make online payments...service is down frequently. Electronic money transfer is taking days to be processed and in this pas time account is billed with extra penalties. Telephone is worst endless hour to reach representative and insane fees for by phone payments Finally, I made full payment of my balance on line, Friday 10/31/2008 (amount of 304.40).

Today (11/03/08) I verified my checking account and amount was transferred. On Dell's end record is not updated and agent made my pay 45.00 more plus penalties plus 13.00 processing fees. Exactly 58.95. I owned Dell 304.40 an ended paying 363.35.

Over billing, time lost to reach customer support (hours and hours a day)
