Dell Talks Back

Kristen of Spring Lake Heights NJ (12/30/08)
I have been going through this situation with Dell since 2004. I purchased a computer with the understanding that I would have no interest for the first 6 months and then have a 23 percent interest charge. They never notified me and hiked my interest rate up to 30 percent. It's so impossible to lower this debt and I feel they've gotten 20 times what this computer is worth.

I feel stuck and it's very frustrating. They won't lower it when i call they just tell me they can't work with this interest rate. Maybe in the future.

I opened an account with Dell's Financial Services credit to buy a computer. They gave me a 2 thousand dollar credit limit, even though I only used about 600. So, weeks later, I ordered another computer for about the same amount (desktop this time). Both computers were delivered to the right address, and I got the first bill ALSO at the correct address. Then, I try to place another order, and my order is canceled, saying Dell needed account verfication. I called, and they said that they randomly picked accounts to verfiy, so I should await the verification form, before I could order anything else.

Weeks pass. Then I call to ask about the verification form. I find out that they sent the form to another address...not even my address. They tell me that they would send out another. I wait. Nothing. So, I call, again. They tell me that a second form wasn't sent and cannot be sent. I ask if there is someone else I can speak to, and they say that no one else will give me any other answer. So, basically, after having mailed me the computers and first bill to the CORRECT address, they lost my address (didn't even have it on file), and mailed out the form to the wrong address. Even though this was their mistake, they refused to correct it, and my credit line is unaccessable (cannot even make payments online).

I made what was supposed to be my last payment for my Dell on 12/17/07. Dell Financial Services continued to automatically withdraw 89.30 from my account each month A YEAR LATER. I have written to the president and CEO of the company and to customer service and I have spent hours on the phone. Finally I put a hold on my account for a couple of months until I figured it was safe again.

Sure enough, the withdrawls are back. They usually send me a refund check a month or so later, but it's ridiculous that Dell can't just close every account that's been paid up. When I spoke with Dell's customer service dept. they told me I had to sign a form to stop the automatic withdrawals, then sent me a form to sign up FOR auto withdrawal. When the rep wrote back she said it looked like I was never signed up for auto withdrawal and my account was closed.

I can't believe an entire year later I'm still dealing with this.

Anne of Kissimmee, FL December 2, 2008

Anne of Kissimmee FL (12/02/08)
We found out that an order we placed with Dell was cancelled when we checked the status online. No call, no email, nothing to let us know it was cancelled. Reason given was that the lease financing was declined. We financed using our Dell line of credit, so I contacted Dell Financial and they said the account was blocked for verification of identification.

I called that department and explained the problem. I was placed on hold for a while and the rep came back to say she could only talk to my husband because he was the guarantor on the account. He called and was told that they can't discuss with him why the hold was placed. That's it. Nothing.

Wouldn't a consumer want to know what was going on with their credit? Especially when we work so hard to keep it in good shape? Dell has become the absolute worst in providing quality customer service and support. DELL, WE ARE DONE WITH YOU.

Denise of Coatesville, PA November 29, 2008

Where do I begin? I've had nothing but problems with my Dell account for a year or more. I have been without my computer more than I've been with it. And if you didn't know it calling customer service is no help at all. The customer service agents have NO and I mean NO respect for it's customers or for proper business practices. Everyone that I have spoken to has been argumentative, disrepectful and rude. None of the customer service agents that I've spoken to are English speaking. Will the Dell company ever realize that as an English Speaking American, I would like to speak to an English speaking agent not someone from India.

Things that have happened: 1. They sent my computer to the wrong address. And blamed me. Then took them forever to replace the computer at the correct address. 2. Opened up a new account when I already had one. This gave me two bills. 3. Harrassed 3 - 4 times a day, every day. I was hospitalized and out of work for two months. I called to let them know I would be out of work for only two months. But I knew I had this debt and would be paying it when I returned to work. 4. Called Dell Support and was on the phone for 6 1/2 hours. Problem back. 5. Called Dell Support again and was on the phone for 4 hours. Problem back. 6. Ordered new Security from Dell, problem back. 7. Vista sucks!!!!!!!!!!

I've ordered two complete desk top computers with printers, cameras and everything. I'm looking to buy TV's and laptops, but with the poor service I've had with Dell. I will NEVER< NEVER but anyhting else from Dell. Is there nothing the consumer can do to make Dell get their act together?
