During Beryl, we went without electricity for an extended period of time with no idea of when it would be turned back on because customer service was disconnected. Last week our power went out again and we could not contact customer service. Today, it's out again, it's 5:03 and they said it'd be on by 5 to get us off the phone. We still have no electricity. They can't maintain their equipment, and they cannot keep their promises. Advice to other people, avoid. Hamster running in a wheel would be more reliable and efficient than CenterPoint.

I’m rating zero stars, because this company ever since replacing the previous utility company is high in corporate greed. I hardly run my stuff now and still paying over $240. You can’t tell me that my gas and electric both are gonna total to that amount if I hardly use or have settings adjusted properly. Do the state of Indiana a favor and leave. You’ve had a horrible reputation since day 1 here and continue to raise rates when you know the people are struggling, yet you keep hiking rates. I’m working basically 3 jobs and still living check to check. GET OUT AND STAY OUT. BRING BACK THE PREVIOUS UTILITY COMPANY.

I want to begin by saying that every single CenterPoint ground crew member who has come to our home has been professional, courteous, and friendly. Unfortunately, our experience with the administrative side—customer service representatives, supervisors, and the billing department—has been the complete opposite and extremely disappointing.
We temporarily moved out of our home for approximately two and a half months at the end of 2025 while it was being raised for flood prevention. We returned on January 17, 2026, which falls within the billing cycle of January 5 through February 5. Despite only occupying the home for roughly half of that billing period, we were charged approximately $195.
I spoke with multiple customer service representatives and two supervisors to understand why our bill was significantly higher than the same period last year, especially given that we were only in the home for half the time. The explanations I received were inconsistent and unhelpful, primarily attributing the increase to typical winter usage and a rate change from $0.81 to $0.89 per unit. However, the numbers do not support this explanation. Last year, during the same period, we used 131 cubic feet at $0.81, totaling $105.00. This year, we used 137 cubic feet at $0.89, totaling $122.99. This does not justify a bill that is approximately $75 higher.
An “investigation” was opened, yet during this time, we continued to receive repeated emails and text messages demanding payment, which felt excessive and inappropriate while the issue was under review. I even had to call again to request that these notices stop. We initially suspected a possible meter reading error or a technical issue, especially since our gas meter was replaced around February 12, 2026, following the home elevation. A potential cause such as an incorrect multiplier or system error seemed plausible. However, we were told the meter replacement had no impact on the bill.
What is most concerning is that both supervisors I spoke with indicated that the bill would likely remain unchanged regardless of the investigation’s outcome. This raises serious concerns about the purpose and integrity of the investigation process. Most recently, a CenterPoint technician visited our home and confirmed there is no gas leak. He also mentioned that average bills for this time period have generally not exceeded $100, further highlighting the discrepancy in our case.
There appears to be a significant disconnect between field operations (meter readers/technicians) and the billing and administrative departments. This situation has been incredibly frustrating, time-consuming, and has ultimately eroded our trust in CenterPoint. We are deeply dissatisfied and expect a thorough, fair resolution to this matter.

First experience and most undesirable. They disconnected our service and after paying the required amount online you can only get it reconnected if you call in to set an appointment for the next day with a full 8 hr window required for technician to arrive .. Unbelievable....After installation some appliances such as furnace, fireplace, etc. does not work. When we call customer service we were told in no uncertain terms that it's our problem.

If I could give them less than one star, I would. I don't know how Center Point is represented by this Home Services Solutions company. I've been paying them since 2019 and never requested their help, and when I needed them, they didn't help me. Now they're charging me $235 that they claim I owe them. I don't owe them anything, you bunch of incompetent, thieving, abusive people. Don't hire this service, not even for free. It's garbage.

I’m from New York and I think it is so tacky CenterPoint has not put my gas on. A note was left in my file not to come early. I had an eye appointment. They came at 8 o’clock. Do anybody ever read note now? I’m still stuck over the weekend since Friday with no gas. Now no heat. I’m a senior citizen and I just came out of elderly abuse. What next? What am I supposed to do tomorrow now? I have a hand surgery. Doctor's appointment. What am I supposed to? Do you stay on the phone 30 40 minutes and still don’t get any results. It’s ridiculous.

Atrocious company and customer service. Will charge $50 for same day gas relighting when they didn't give any notice that bills were due in the first place. Don't even have an autopay option in their online portal.

I live in Kingwood, Texas and Centerpoint Energy is the WORST EVER. It is sunny and wonderful outside and we have a power outage -- and we always have these damn outages. A snail could move across my sidewalk in front of my house and the power goes out. Honestly, this company is just terrible. Getting annexed by the City of Houston was the worst thing to happen to us.

I am writing regarding my gas service reconnection scheduled for this morning. I completed the required payment and remained available by my phone; however, I did not receive a call or notification from the technician. My home is located in an area with limited cellular reception, so it is possible that if a call was attempted, the signal may not have gone through. That said, I want to ensure we can work together toward a successful reconnection as quickly as possible.
I would also like to offer a few suggestions that may help improve the customer experience moving forward: Providing calls that are clearly identifiable rather than appearing as “spam” or “unknown.” Informing customers in advance of the area code or number range technicians may call from. Exploring alternatives to extended service windows when possible, as many customers must coordinate time away from work to be available. My intent in sharing this feedback is not only to resolve my current situation, but also to support stronger communication and partnership between your team and the customers you serve. I value the essential service you provide and look forward to working together toward a prompt resolution.

I have found CenterPoint to have some of the worst customer service I have experienced. They make zero attempts to fix their mistakes. I would stay far away and avoid doing business with them if you are able! Unfortunately I don’t have a choice.

I know you don't have a choice in who you use since CenterPoint has a monopoly on the natural gas business in Central Indiana, but I thought it important to share that they are very dishonest and provide poor customer services. They continued to auto-draft from my bank account for 13 MONTHS for servicing as house that I no longer owned or lived in. Even worse is that they refuse to refund me and refuse to let me speak with a supervisor. Again, I know you don't have a choice, so expect a painful experience.

I disconnected services in October 2025 at the address **. Account #**. When I called in October 2025 for refund of my security deposit, I realized that CenterPoint Energy had my address wrong despite that I gave it to them during disconnection process. I later gave them my correct address. I have not received my security deposit since October 2025. Anytime I call CenterPoint Energy for my security deposit they will tell me a different story. Till this day, I have not received refund of my security deposit. Centerpoint Energy is a fraudulent business entity.

CenterPointLESS!!!! CROOKS!!!! I just recently moved into a new apartment and called to ask about gas service. The landlord has the gas meters in his company name and he asked that I "just change the name on the account" so I can start getting the bills. After hearing that my FEES were $90 DEPOSIT + $40 Service initiation fee FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! They didn't have to go to turn on the gas since that was already on. I told them to disregard and that I would call my landlord to see if I could work something up. Lo and behold!!!! CPE sent me a bill already!!!! Since I had previously been a customer, they had my mailing address, my email and they just sent me the bill.
I called to speak to A HUMAN BEING AND I GET A BOT!! Tried to speak English then Spanish with IT and couldn't understand some of the words. I asked for a callback and several days later, no one has called and they won't. They have the monopoly of the gas service so they can charge an arm and a leg to "SETUP" nothing because it takes only a few minutes to create an account and send a bill, even when I DID NOT AGREE TO IT!!!!

Got my bill for last month CenterPoint, your charges far exceed my usage!! Are you people kidding me!! You are CROOKS!!! We can't even get electricity on a stable continuous basis and you charge me more delivery charges that are DOUBLE my usage!!?? PATHETIC!!! You people have put South Texas into disrepair with your nonsense and outrageous charges! HOW DO YOU PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT!!!! My 80 year old mother can't pay her bill in full because of your price gouging!!

CenterPoint is the worst U.S. electric utility in the country. Most outages in the the entire country with days out downtime and outages. Complete embarrassment of a company. Without power all of today 3rd time losing power this month! Break up this joke of a monopoly.

When dealing with the workers that dig up the pipes they are extremely rude. They are also extremely slow with doing what needs to be done. They don’t even fix the cement where they dig up. They just use the patching tar and leave it.

Beaumont, TX new natural gas customer. The contracted gas line routing company left my yard is disarray. They trenched two routings to my house? They cut through driveway to install line near side of house (for mounting meter). They left it without patching the large cutout in my driveway. I called customer service (Nov 5th, 2025) and was told Centerpoint would correct issues within 7 days. Two weeks have passed with no action from centerpoint. Called today and a new ticket was generated for repairs. What a great start to a relationship with centerpoint. I am seriously considering that centerpoint remove the gas line from the street to my house.

Horrible! They charge just to charge, very high prices literally robbing people. Horrible. Horrible. Breeding money hungry people! The monopoly is awful. Someone needs to open a new power plant. If that happened I'm sure everyone would leave CenterPoint.

Centerpoint is a ripoff. They continue to increase our bills just because they can. They have no competition so we have to use them or have no source of electric. I was so happy when I got to turn my air off because I figured I would see you a good drop in my bill. My air was off for two weeks, but my bill went from 480 to 454. They will price just until they run every person out of this area. And I do not feel bad for the employees you choose to work for a company that’s like that that takes advantage of people. There is not one good thing I could say about CenterPoint Energy..

It is rude behavior to interrupt a customer when they are trying their best to put up with your stupidity and ignorant customer service representatives on the phone. Talking over a customer is rude too. Lying to the customer is rude too. You have nasty operators! I dare you to listen to some of the recorded conversations!! I went online and found the streetlight myself and reported it online ---> Why the CSR could not do the same is beyond comprehension. I will not call or rely on CenterPoint Energy again. You have lousy employees! Slow, rude, obnoxious, ignorant, and unprofessional. You need to step up your game - monopoly or not - you can be replaced easily.

My gas was cutoff and I called in to get it turned back on I was told that they came to the door but no one ever came to the door besides they don't need come to the door to turn the gas back on. They lied to me and I'm tired and disgusted with CenterPoint lack of trust and reliability of service and I plan on leaving them and looking elsewhere a more reliable energy provider.

I would give them a no star rating but it won’t let me. I had an appointment to turn my gas back on and my appointment was from noon to 4 pm, they were supposed to give me a call when they would show up so I could have someone at house to let them in to check for gas leak. But I got was a notice saying they was there but no phone call at all.

I would give -20 but not an option. Clearly they have incompetent workers and products. Power out since Saturday. Told others they don't know how to repair and returning issue to Centerpoint. Storm, less than 10k without service, but incompetence has left persons with disabilities and others without power and they have been sending messages of a potential $125 charge. This is absurd as the equipment belongs to Centerpoint.

An appointment was set to look at the gas tap on our patio. Appointment was Monday, between 8 and 12. NO ONE showed up or called. I called Centerpoint and I was told the reason why no one showed. I understand the reason but no call. I was told tech would still show up because the ticket was still open. Again, no show, no call. The next morning I call and Centerpoint rescheduled me for that day WITHOUT telling me. Appointment time was 8-1. Again, no call, no show. It is now 6:07 and no one has been to my house. I am on hold right now with the 7th person I've talked to in customer service.

Charged me twice, which overdrafted my bank account. I had to get my bank involved to remove one charge so that I would not be charged an overdraft fee. CenterPoint then charged me an extra $30 the next month and will not answer my emails.

In Evansville Indiana we have no alternative to Centerpoint, they are a monopoly. We are paying very high bills especially after this last rate hike. They always are allowed to do rate hikes by the Indiana utility regulatory commission. They make customers foot the bill for updates to their systems. A great deal of people can't afford power and groceries. They are a greedy company who doesn't care about their customers.

This company is so lazy and sorry. I signed up. Paid my deposit and they took the deposit and gave it to the person that lived in the same house before me. Need I remind you the lady reached out to me, call me and told me that she had my info, ok stop pause. As I am waiting for Centerpoint to come out they tell me they never received my deposit, from there I went off. Come to find BillMatrix could not tell me what happened to the money but I figured it out after the lady called me. I call center point and told them the mistake they made I was told to file charges on her, now why would I do that, center point gave her my info, now we both tried calling them, No response or results at all.
Ok my bill is due now. It’s been 2 months and first I try the online. Tells me I can’t make a payment and then I get transferred back and forward between bill matrix and center point. Tracy bill matrix. Tony center point. Rhonda bill matrix. Sam center point. Susan bill matrix. Thomas center point. Leo center point. Ryan manager at center point from 8am to 11:06 am this morning and still can’t pay the bill. I don’t have a car. But why can’t I pay my bill. I wish we had another gas company, because center point you all are out of control. No help at all. I just want to pay my bill. Nothing more, but if I don’t pay then they will surely disconnect my service. What am I gonna do? I don’t like center point at all. They are quick to take your money. But refuse to help solve whatever issue comes up! Hmmm! Smh so sad! I wanna give them a 0. They don’t deserve a 1.

Everybody I have talked to have been very helpful and have had zero issues with you guys! Thank you for helping someone with a brain injury! Excel Energy has now twice have told me, they didn't get my money orders and had to pay again. Weird how every time it's over $100, they say they didn't get my money order. So thank you Centerpoint, for being true to your customers! Thank you for the male staff that helped me set up my direct deposit to you guys. I did money orders to help me with my brain injury to help me in the process of getting better but due to the disrespect of Excel, it's in the best interest to do direct deposit. Again, THANK YOU ALL AT CENTERPOINT, FOR BEING A GREAT!

CenterPoint Energy is not doing well at maintaining their power line easements. Loose power around 4 + times a year. They need to develop a better way to deliver there electrons. Over six hours to replace a fuse that took about 20 minutes to do. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The gas department hires just anyone I guess and obviously does not train. I even had someone tell me the gas was already on when it indeed is not. I bought a house from a son who inherited the house when his father passed. Center Point was not allowing me to turn the gas on in my name even though I could show closing documents. It took 3 days and countless hours of calling to finally get the gas scheduled to be turned on in 3 more days! Ridiculous to say the least!!!!
