I have been a customer with Privacy Guard since 2000 (14 years!). Last month I received an email, as I do every year, stating that my service was up for renewal and the yearly fee would be charged to my credit card on file. Today I tried to log in, but could not. The representative and later the supervisor I spoke to both said, repeatedly, that my service had been cancelled and that I should do an internet search for companies that offer identity protection services. I was told I was cancelled because they no longer provided the plan I was on. No notice of cancellation, no apologies, no offer to sign me up for another plan, nothing but cold and rude. Very disappointing.

My brother recently suffered a stroke and I took over managing his affairs. Privacy Guard and ID Secure were both charging him $12.99 and $13.99 monthly to monitor his credit. It's the same company! I informed them they were charging for duplicate services and cancelled both services. They both requested a Power of Attorney which I had and furnished on June 27th 2014. Both companies had the same fax number to send the POA. On June 29th I opened two accounts for my brother in the area I am moving him to. I have received no notice from Privacy Guard or ID Secure. Now they claim I can't cancel service with POA. On July 1, 2014 his account was charged for Privacy Guard. Neither service is doing anything for money collected. I won't have a chance to collect the $1,300 collected fraudulently in duplicate service charges.

I sign up for a trial offer of $1 for 14 days for my credit report/score with PrivacyGuard.com. After submitting my credit card information, I was immediately directed to another site called CreditScorePro.com. I did NOT receive any confirmation page or email to say I was signed up. The new site wanted all the information again, which seemed very sketchy. I immediately checked my account to find a charge for a $1, a credit for $1, a charge for $1 and again another credit for $1. There was an 800 # on my statement which I called. I was told they could not find any membership information for me or where they charge me. They told me if a charge showed up in the future, call back. One word for this company - SCAM!!!

Received two (2) checks in the mail, wondering if they are even real. Called and learned that my late mother-in-law had been being charged on TWO (2) accounts, but I don't know if she knew it or not, as she was sick for several years before she passed over. I'm almost certain that she did not know of these monthly charges, but I sure PRAY to God (literally) that what the representative told me is true. I cannot give an accurate "rating" right now, not until my husband calls to see if they can reissue the checks in his name. IF they are able to reissue the checks into his name, then that means that prayers will have been answered, as I have several medical issues and cannot eat "normal" food and I take a lot of medicines that sometimes we don't have the money for. I WILL come back and give a different rating, once my husband speaks with them to see what action(s) take place. Hopefully, it will be a 5-star rating.

I noticed a charge on my checking acct. for $14.99 on my statement. I called my bank and they said I needed to call the company and cancel it. I have never heard of this company, much less signed up for services with them. They gave me the number and name of the company as PRIVACY GUARD. I attempted to call Privacy Guard. They informed me they could not find me and there were too many people with my last name to search for it. Then hung up on me. I immediately called back and was put on hold forever by the next agent. It's funny, they have no trouble finding my bank acct. but they can't find me when I call them. Watch out for them. They rip you off each month and you may not notice for some time.

The refund check, which is provided by PNC, includes and amount for credit card finance charges or checking account overdraft fees, from your enrollment to the present. Trilegiant will not access any additional fees for your Membership until you fully activate your benefits."

I noticed today (4/4/13) a credit for $44.97 and $14.99 on my Chase credit card statement. I called Privacy Guard customer service and asked "Joseph" why there were charges and credits from their company on my credit card account. I have never heard of this company before. He asked my name and address. I did not give him my credit card number. He said, "We caught it and reverse the charges." He asked me if I knew. I can't remember the man's name or state he was from. I told him I have never heard of this person before. He told me he recommended I call my credit card company and have my account closed, which I did.
I checked my old Chase statements and found charges for $14.99 on my December, January, February, and March statements. I went online and found the many class action lawsuits against Trilegiant (Privacy Guard) and Chase Bank. I would not have noticed the charges if not for them crediting me. What is going on? I feel violated! This company has been stealing for years and still continuing the same practices. Am I the only one complaining at this time? Please let me know what is going on. Thank you.

I had my identity stolen, but it was caught pretty quickly. I had to get a new debit card, however. When I got the card, I went to the bank (US Bank) to activate it. Apparently, US Bank is associated with PrivacyGuard and automatically enrolled me in the program without telling me or even giving me an option to opt out. So the deduction from my account happened and I called US Bank. They reversed the charge. A month later, they charged me again. When I called to get it reversed, I was told they couldn't reverse it and that I would have to talk to PrivacyGuard. PrivacyGuard was sued in a class action a couple of years ago for these same types of activities and they still continue to do them.

Privacy Guard is withdrawing money once a year since 2002 on my Chase credit card. I discovered this lately and when I called Privacy Guard, they said I enrolled in their service using an automated system at an 800 number. I never called them. Besides, they claim I accessed my account information on that 800 number, so I wonder where this account information comes from? Don't we have a confidentiality breach since they have my credit card number and all personal information on file without me providing this information ever? They even sent me a letter claiming this aspect. Apparently, there is a lot of fraud involving "Privacy Guard" and "Trilegiant". Is this the same company? How do we contact the attorney general about that to have such scam ended properly?

I have been recently giving my financial statements much more attention, as money is increasingly more of a rare luxury now. I noticed a charge from Privacy Guard (labeled as "Privgrdmar," with the last 3 letters indicating the month I was billed) for $12.99. Unfortunately, this has been going on for at least 18 months (the oldest bank statement available online was dated October 2008).
I don't ever recall signing up for this, but I assume it was something I overlooked. (Perhaps a "free trial" that came with one of my credit cards, but I forgot to cancel after the "free trial period." Despite this, I am sure I have never knowingly gave consent for this service anymore.) So, begrudgingly, but taking responsibility for my ignorance and carelessness, I got in contact with my bank (US Bank) and received the contact number for Privacy Guard.
I called Privacy Guard to cancel my membership, but they told me that my account does not exist/can't find my account, even though both my bank and Privacy Guard confirmed the charges were for Privacy Guard's services. I called several times, hoping that someone could help me; but every time I called, the agent and their supervisor all said the same thing and said my account was not in their system.
I then called Privacy Guard, along with a US Bank representative on the phone line, and that still didn't help. I got the same answer. The US Bank representative was asked to fax my statement to Privacy Guard, which worries me. I filed a dispute to the claims department at US Bank, but they said the debits from my account were legitimate, though did not provide anything else.
Because Privacy Guard has repeatedly told me that they can't locate my account, I am afraid that the charges are an intentional violation of my bank account by someone else. Either that or Privacy Guard is scamming me.
Furthermore, Privacy Guard has told me that I should have received information/newsletters/general mail from them from time to time, but I have never ever received anything in the mail from Privacy Guard. This further makes me believe that I may be getting scammed. Is there anyone who can help me?

I see all the complaints about Privacy Guard/Trilegiant and am baffled. I have been a member of Privacy Guard for about 5 years, and they saved me from a thief who stole my identity. I was enrolled through an offer by a credit card company, that I had to sign in order to enroll. They did not just assume I wanted their product (as some on here would like you to believe) and I had to take steps to enroll and to obtain my credit reports. When a real thief found a way to steal my information and opened several accounts, PG sent me an alert right away. I was able to stop any damage to my good name, all because of this company. They saved me countless hours and I didn't spend a dime. In my opinion, these consumers are lazy and neither pay attention to what they enroll into, or their credit card statements. What better way for lawyers to get rich.

I just discovered my unauthorized membership in Trilegiant/PrivacyGuard service which came from Chase Bank Credit Card Services. Apparently I was enrolled without my knowledge in April 2006. The resulting monthly charges to my credit card total at least $251.79. And I have been paying interest on this for a year and a half. Chase Bank will only reverse one or two recent charges.
PrivacyGuard makes it impossible to speak to a person. Then they say due to high volume of calls they cannot talk to me and then auto hang up. My complaint is the same as everybody else's. I made a reservation online with a Days Inn. Next month, I had a mysterious charge to my credit card for $99.99 dollars from a credit report company called Privacy Guard, or PrivacyGuard(R). Turns out the company and Days Inn are both owned by Cendant Corporation, and credit information is passed from one company to the other, where they charge different individuals for a "subscription" to the unwanted credit report service.
The idea is, according to what I am reading online, is that you call to inquire about the mystery charge, and at that point they sell the service to you, - but you have already been charged for it. I am assured by my credit card company, American Advantage Citicard, that they will put in a dispute. An online search about this practice yielded a number of articles involving modern "bank pirates", of which Privacy Guard is one of the clearer examples of such theft.

This is a bit strange to explain. I'm complaining, not as a consumer, but rather as a former employee of PrivacyGuard. Believe it or not, I'm only 20 years old and I was fired because I told consumers who called in "the truth." For those of you who don't understand how it works, I'll be more than happy to explain.
First of all the main client is Chase. The main ways the service is offered is through customer service, supposedly. I honestly believe people are signed up without knowing. I would take an average of 120 calls a day and 90% were people who were being billed for a service they knew nothing of. After explaining the service, either they don't remember, or said "no" when offered.
Well, to everyone that reads this, I will tell you what happens. The representative then begins their rebuttals and it sounds like your being cancelled when your really not. If you want to know for sure that your cancelled, ask for a CANCELLATION CODE AND WRITE IT DOWN!!! Please!!! This isn't just for privacyguard. This is for all the services. We work beside each other. I was in the Texas location. It's the same everywhere. LOL and another funny thing, when your "supposedly" being transferred to a supervisor, we actually are transferring you to another normal representative in Westerville, OH who says that they're a supervisor. You need to ask for their supervisor.
Sometimes it's not your bank or credit card companies fault. Trilegiant is extremely sneaky and they don't back up their products. When your signed up, they share your info with their subsidiaries. It's sad. Once I realized this, I started just cancelling people and not rebuttalling, telling them I thought it was a scam. My supervisor decided to write me up with a final warning because I was failing to try to "save" the customer. I felt it's not worth an extra dollar in my pocket to ruin someone's life. I've heard some stories people, seriously. And I was just fired 2 weeks ago so believe me, I know what's going on. But please, check your accounts daily, I can tell you who offers the services (I don't remember them all, but these are the main people who have problems):
This company is dishonest, therefore I don't mind exposing them. I HATED working for them and didn't care when I was fired. Many people leave this job daily because of what they make us do. LOL, we don't even know who owns the company but I will give this last bit of info.

I received a Chase credit card in the mail in June of this year. When activating my card they had several offers that you had to listen to. One of which was for a service called Privacy Guard. I was told that for $1 I would be enrolled in a trial of their program for 2 months after which I would be charged $11.99 a month for their service. I was also told that I would receive a check in the mail for $50 just for trying them out. I have yet to this day receive ANY information, welcome package, check, NOTHING from them. I did however get charged the $1 for the trial as well as $11.99 on August 4th & again on September 7th.
On September 1st I contacted Chase & told them not to accept ANY charges from them but I was charged the $11.99 on the 7th which put my account over limit & Chase then charged me $35. I contacted Chase again & told them they needed to take that over limit charge off my account because I had contacted them on the 1st & asked them not to let TLG make any more charges to my account & they did. I was refunded the $11.99 from TLG on the 13th. I have also contacted TLG but they have yet to respond.
My credit account is over limit which will probably end up showing up bad on my credit report which I've been working hard the last year or so trying to get straightened out. I was planning to use the supposed $50 check to pay a bill which ended up being late & I was charged a fee for that as well. I ended up borrowing the money from my mother which I have yet to pay back to her so she's not happy with that is not talking to me too much these days. Got my Visa bill on Saturday 8/20 with charge of $99.99 for merchant TLG PRIVACYGRD dated 7/20. Called Bank One/Chase to inquire what the charge is for and was advised is an insurance charge and cannot be disputed so I cancelled my account. Did a Google search for the merchant as it appeared on my statement and came up with a result for web site of complaints that Consumer Affairs has received for PRIVACY GUARD as a consumer scam alert. Also found a link to information regarding a class action suit filed in the state of Florida where PRIVACY GUARD is owned by TLG (Trilegiant) and settled a $400,000 action suit in refunds to consumers.
I called PRIVACY GUARD (800-238-7298) this morning and spoke to Roman who advised me that I had elected identity theft protection back in 2004 on trial basis and unless it was cancelled I would be billed annually for the coverage and it also allowed me to get my credit report with scores. I told him I vaguely remembered the call to me but it was so long ago that I might have forgotten. I also told him that in the state of Florida residents can get a free credit report by law now and that I don't need the service. He stated that you can't get the credit scores for free though. He then gave me the web site of Privacygard.com and instructions for logging in to get the credit report & scores. He then told me once I got that to call back and cancel the coverage and I would be refunded the $99.99. I went back to the Consumer Affairs web site and looked further under the settlement with the state of FL and discovered the following:
Consumers were signed up for trial memberships in the clubs, billed for membership fees, and continually re-enrolled. Membership fees ranged anywhere from $59.95 annually to $89.95 annually. Once the victims were enrolled in the club, membership fees were charged to their credit cards without their knowledge one to three months later after a "free" trial period. Problems were also reported with efforts to cancel memberships and obtain refunds. Under the settlement with the state, Trilegiant and its subsidiaries will provide restitution to consumers who have already filed complaints or who do so within the next six months, if the consumers did not take advantage of the benefits provided by club membership.
I called PRIVACY GUARD back and spoke to Derwin, explained the situation and the information I found on the Consumer Affairs web site regarding TRILEGIANT and that I never used the services and I wanted it cancelled and the charge refunded. He agreed to cancel it, gave me a cancellation number and it would be processed in 10-14 days but I may not see it on my statement for 1-2 billing cycles. I called Chase back to notify them of the situation and inquire if there had been any prior charges by Privacy Guard or Trilegiant prior to this charge and was told by Teresa that no, there had been no prior charges. She also said there would be no problem crediting it back to my account even though the account has been closed.

My rent was paid late and I had to pay an extra $60.00 for late fees, not only the management company will no longer accept my checks because it bounced and a couple of other checks bounced too.

Gentlemen I just check my bank account and the $79.99 has been returned. I guess I got a little impatient. I thank you for your answer. You can put my complaint if file 13. Thanks again.

They sent me a trial membership for 3 months for their services and gave me the option to cancel after the 90 days, which I forgot about. I let 1 day pass after the 90 days and I called to cancel and they told me that I could still cancel and get the full amount of $69.99 credit back to my account. This was on 11/2/01. Till this day, I have not been able to get that refund credited. Every time I call their 800 number, when I speak to someone, I always get a different story as to what happened to the money.
Today, 1/7/02, when I called again, Linda ** (a supervisor) told me that they are experiencing similar problems with other customers and they don't know what happened to that money. This sounds a little suspicious to me. She also stated that she does not know when the problem will be resolved. The last time I spoke with someone else, Candice, on 12/13/01, asked to fax my bank online statement where it shows that the money was taken by PrivacyGuard and that as soon as I faxed that to her they were going to work on it and get the credit back to my account to which hasn't been done. Please help. Thank you.
