My husband went to LA Weight Loss Center and every time that he went, they were always pushing things off on him like the vitamins, the candy bars and all of the other supplements that they said he would need. We come to find out as he was working on the weight loss that they closed. We had purchased the bars, which cost $921.85 and the program cost was $560.95. What can we do about this matter? We would like to get some of our money back. He did not lose any of the weight that they told him and the supplement caused several health problems, which he kept telling them about at the center and they would keep telling him that he needed to try and find the right one that works.

LA Weight Loss Center in Mequon, WI closed their location including others around Wisconsin. Per the contract, it states a full refund will be given. I was promised 83 weeks of weight loss plus bars that only 12 weeks were delivered. I'm out over $1,500.

I started on the LA Weight Loss Plan in July of 2007, so this July it will be 2 years! First, I was impressed with the professionalism and results I got. Yes, it is expensive! They start out seeming to be really concerned about your success in your goal of weight loss, but in reality, they are just trying to sell you a product so they can reap the commissions! I have had numerous disputes with the consultants there and have even contacted the corporate office with no results or even a return email!
My main complaint is the promises they give but don't follow through with. One such case was that I earned a merchandise credit for referring in new clients. But then that credit of $100 was taken away later when they later cancelled because the products made them sick. Presently, one of the consultants won't even look at me or take my appointment. She will take the next one waiting instead of me. I was just explaining to her one day why my cousin had to quit as the products had made her sick. The consultant got really loud and not very respectful to me. I told her that I did not appreciate her tone of her voice to me. She told me if I didn't like it, then I was to leave, which I ended up doing!
I did complain to the center's manager as she was there to witness the situation. Nothing was done about it. I can't believe someone would get that angry over me just explaining the situation and then tell me to leave when I am paying them to be there! I do think I did not get my money's worth out of that consultation. This has been almost two months ago and she still will not talk or do my consult. I am paid up until October 2009 and am not quitting to just let them have my money! This place started out as a very nice place to go, but now it is different and difficult.
I had many pounds to lose. If you only have a little weight to lose, this place may be okay. But for the long haul, it is not ideal. Eventually, they become your friend and you lose the professionalism that they should keep regarding your contract, payments and results.

I joined LA Weight Loss in Eau Claire, WI in February of 2008. I was shocked at how much the cost of the program was and how they really pushed their LA Lites on their customers. I signed up for a 2-year contract and used the Care Credit to pay off my $700 balance over a number of months. I did buy about 30 boxes of the LA Lites at $14/box but ended up begging and pleading for a refund when they didn't please me. I thought they were disgusting. I was very happy that I did manage to get a small refund from that.
I began losing pounds immediately and by August of 2008, I had lost 35lbs! I was thrilled with the program, not the counselors, but the actual menu plan to follow. In December of 2008, being busy with school and holiday stuff, I took about 3 weeks off from weighing in. When I went back to weigh in, the center was closed! I had received no phone calls or letters telling me of the center closing! I was very hurt and disappointed in LA Weight Loss. I have tried to contact someone/anyone who could tell me what is going on and if we will receive refunds, but have had no luck with any numbers posted online! I cannot believe all the people throughout the US and Canada that have been robbed of precious money and more importantly, the very effective plan and support.
I am utterly disappointed and have been struggling to lose the additional 20 pounds I was supposed to lose with LA! Can anyone tell me if there is a class action suit being put together in Wisconsin? I would appreciate any information you can give me! Please post any info on this site, I will be checking it! Thanks and good luck to everyone still trying to drop some weight.

Enrolled in program... Bought bars for a year. Stopped going for awhile, then stopped in to start program again because I had already purchase the bars in advance. Had only gone to center for about 2 months. I am out quite a lot of money because of the prepayment of bars I didn't receive, center closed without notifying me in advance. When I stopped at center, there was just a note on the window with a contact tel. #. When calling the #, couldn't get anywhere... just recording. Want a refund! Can't afford to throw money away on something not received.

I signed up for LA Weight Loss on October 7, 2009. One of the main reasons I signed up with LA Weight Loss was to be able to speak one on one with a counselor in the centers, someone that would help make me feel accountable for my weight loss. About 1 month after signing up, all LA Weight Loss walk-in centers announced that they would be closing their doors as of Thanksgiving. I no longer had the program that I signed up for. I tried contacting LA Weight Loss for about a month and a half before I actually got to talk with a customer service person. Finally, when they did return my call, I was informed that they would refund me part of the money for the weekly portion of the program but that I would still need to take shipment of the remaining LA Lites that I had pre-purchased, all 35 boxes. I was no longer getting the program but they still want me to get shafted for the money that I put into the bars. Someone knew when I signed up that the program I was being offered was no longer going to be offered. I feel cheated and swindled.

I was a member of LA Weightloss and went for one of my weigh-in visits, only to find the business closed with a note on the door and a phone number to call. I was fairly successful on the plan but had not completed the program. I paid in advance for services that were to be received for quite some time. I feel the company owes me the money left from my contract, since they were able to calculate the exact amount how much each part of the contract would cost when I first signed the contract. It shouldn't be that difficult.
I just spoke to a customer service agent, who stated I would have to pay $20.00 shipping and handling fees to receive the LA Weightloss bars that were still on my plan, which I did. I was also told I would need to fax a copy of my contract plus the receipt to the company and someone would call me back to let me know whether I would receive any refund or not. I am very frustrated about the whole process and upset that there was no warning at all. And now, I am left to talk to one of two people in the customer service department who is rude and unsympathetic about the whole process!

I Just need to say first, the LA Weight Loss center I went to is Wilsonville, OR. They closed and went bankrupt with no notice. I signed up for the full program with over 600.00 for the program and almost 400.00 for the LA LITES [product]. I came into the center March of 2008 and they told me to attend at least 3 times a week if I could. I went into the office at least 4 times and received like 3 boxes of the bars and two of their meals at the most. I asked the ladies with the lab coat were they trained and they let me know that they were customers who got a job just talking to people as they came in and they were there to give encouragement on progress. But every time I went I was pushed to buy pills and vitamins and misc. I signed a contract to pay CARE CREDIT.
I get a bill every month to pay it and I do because it will damage my credit. I have called numerous times and was sent to LA on the go, which they told me they have nothing to do with the franchise that did this to me. After screaming literally at one lady at LA on the go about how do I get a hold of anyone, she gave me corporate # to LA Weight Loss and I tried to no success at all. It's a fake voicemail that gives you a bunch of different directories and no one answers to the calls nor do you get to leave a recording because it says this mailbox is full so it sends you to a operator which says hold on the line but the call is never answered even if you sit on the call for a hour.
I called the LA on the go again and they said well try their email which is fake too. This is what they gave me: franchisecustomerser@la-weightloss.com. Now that page cannot be found. I told the lady at the LA on the go again this did not work. She proceeded to tell me "I don't care about your situation and I don't know what to tell you." She informed me their center was in Idaho and Corporate is in Pennsylvania. I let her know that LA Weight Loss centers have run a shady operation and have screwed thousands of people including me out of a great deal of money.

In October 2007 I entered in to a contract with LA Weight Loss to lose weight and was advised by counselor to also purchase a package deal of supplement bars that would be a sufficient amount to see me through my weight loss and maintenance. The cost of the bars was $1,800 plus and I used approx. 2 boxes per week. As of December 13, 2008 I still had 46 boxes owing to me.
On December 29, 2008 I visited LA Weight Loss to get some more bars only to see a cube truck, 2 men and the manager loading file boxes on the truck. When the manager saw me approaching the office they went inside and closed the door, on the door was a notice that they were closing because of US poor economy and there was no mention of refund or how to obtain per paid product. How or are any of us who in good faith paid monies to LA Weight Loss Canada going to receive either a refund or product owed. I find their closing of all the LA Weight Loss in London very deceptive and I am sure that there has been other closing in Ontario as well. I am not sure how to reach head office in Canada to find out some answers so I am hoping that you might be able to help me and others who face the same plight. Thank you for your time.

On April 17th, 2008, my sister, Lori, and I joined L.A. Weight Loss center because we both have health problems and need to lose weight to get more healthy. The Associate who signed us both up at the same time was Shannon **. She talked us both into joining. We were not told of the hidden costs. It cost us both $439.20 to join. Not until our second visit which was 3 days later did they spring it on us that it would cost another $1,610.72 for the LA Weight Loss bars that we had to have. It was part of the program and we had to have it. She said, "Oh don't worry. We will put it on a credit card called CareCredit." She said, "We can get you signed up right away. It only takes a few minutes."
My sister and I were in a state of shock paying that much for a diet bar. We just weren't expecting it and were dumbfounded. Anyway she did it and it was over. We had 6 months to pay it. I think it was 6 months, without any finance charge. I couldn't pay it in 6 months so I had to put in on another credit card before the six months was up, because I couldn't pay it in time. It has caused me nothing but stress, and the program was not what they said it was. The girls that worked there were not Nutritionists like they led us to believe. Not good counseling and they pushed you to buy more. Since August of 08, I have been laid off work and it is very difficult to try and pay all this money.
When they closed in Dec. 08 Kayla ** told us we could not get our money back for the Bars and we could only get back some of our Original amt. of the $439.20. That was in Dec. It is now January 1st, and we have heard nothing. Can't get through to anybody. I feel we have been taken for this money and not gotten what they promised. It is just wrong to steal from people who cannot afford it and treat them like this. I feel L.A. Weight Loss should be held accountable and all of us should get our hard-earned money back. It has caused nothing but stress and worry. It has made me sick.

LA Weight Loss’s Eugene branch closed without any notice to me. I had not been to the office for a while after having surgery. I stopped by one day to pick up the LA Lites bars that I had paid for but not yet received. I arrived to a for lease sign on the window. I also have not yet received the money that was owed to me as per my contract for reaching my goal and being in maintenance for 6 months. Supposedly, that was submitted before I stopped attending. I checked and was assured the paperwork had been sent to the corporate office. I was also told it would take at least 6-8 weeks to receive. That was at least 12 weeks ago. I lost 5 boxes of LA Lite bars approximately costing $53.50. I have not received the refund award for being in maintenance 6 months - that’s about $215.00. The total money I lost is about $268.50.

And today, I dropped in for my session (December 30th, 2008) and found the center closed with a sorry on the door and no information for contact. It appears that it has closed and it has product purchased and held on storage. This was common practice, to leave your health products in the store and draw on it as they needed it. I have paid the remainder of the charges to my bank account and now, I am out all the money I put into it and have not yet reached my weight loss goal I entered the contract for. As I look through the complaints here, I see that so many others all over the world are facing the same thing. This is fraudulent. My name is Karen **. I was a client at the Rainbow City LA Weight Loss center. The center closed in 12/2007. I have been corresponding with LA Weight Loss associates since that time requesting my due refund and rebate. I was told several times that I would be receiving my refund but it would take up to eight weeks. I never received any refund or rebate but continued to speak with personnel at the Trussville LA Weight Loss center. The last several times I called, I received a message that the mailbox was full. When asked to leave a call back number (press 5), it would then say I had pressed an invalid number.
Today, I called and was told the number had been disconnected. I finally called numbers I found on the internet and spoke with an Amy. She would not give her last name and may not have even been telling me the truth about her first name. Anyway, she was very rude! She would not listen to my explanation and said that I was not eligible for a refund. She would not allow me to speak to anyone else and told me that she was just telling me what the owner of LA Weight Loss told her to tell me. I asked her who was that owner of LA Weight Loss and she would not give me that information. I have been very patient and polite. I have been given the runaround for a year. I do have receipts, records of telephone calls, emails, etc.
I spent approximately $2000 on the cost of the program, food, etc. I was not told the Rainbow City or Trussville centers were closing. I never received any rebates or refunds, even though I was assured many times that I would. I have spent many hours speaking with numerous people. I have spent hours gathering, receipts, documents, etc. I am usually always easy going, but this has really upset me. It was LA Weight Loss that closed. I was required to pay them, so why should they not be required to fulfill their end of the deal by accommodating or reimbursing their clients?

Last night, I went to the center to weigh in and found out they are closing their doors on 11/14/08 and there will not be a center in our area, period. I was told I could do the online program. I heard other ladies in the place say to do the research because it doesn't exist. I told my counselor that I wanted my credit card credited since I was only on the program for 2 weeks, and I didn't want to do the online program.
What I paid for 2 weeks ago doesn't exist, so I wanted a refund. They couldn't credit my credit card, so I refused to sign their papers. I contacted my credit card company this morning and was told I could have the charge removed when I get my statement and file a dispute. It is important to always use a credit card to pay for something like this so you can get your money back. Note: I was told by another client to not trust their paper check refund, the check could bounce. I am disappointed that they would let me join 2 weeks ago knowing they were closing their doors. I continue to pay because I do not want my credit altered.
The problem herein lies with the contract i signed. They said I never will get my $330.00 back, also I went to the center 80 miles round trip to Pueblo, CO (Manager Sandy ** who refuses to help me bec. she says she doesn't work for them anymore and she is no longer doing the program) (also Aimee **, Hillary, and 4 others who were heavy working on commissions) 10 weeks in a row to comply with their latest and greatest offer and get 4 more weeks free and 50.00 in store credit free. But ID folks on the 800# said they cannot honor that, bec. they are simply accommodating people from centers that closed and that they do not owe money.
When I do call I get a recording, sometimes like a call center where they take a message, and it is repeated with giving them your story over and over again, until they set you up with Marilyn or Kimberly, by then they are upset and put the Manager on the phone who wants to hear your story AGAIN. By then you are mad, trying to be nice, to just get your product out of them. Why should I feel victimized again at my age? I just wanted to pay for professional counseling regarding my food plan to live a long and healthier life.
Last week, 10/09/08, I received my weekly call for the second time and it backfired. I ask abt. the credit, bars, stabilization info I still had not received. Then the Manager Kimberly (would not give last name) chewed me out and said I would not be contacted by phone bec. they were not going to listen to me repeatedly and they would handle me by email. (I agreed until I get my products.) Whoever heard about proper food habits and health match by email???? I just wanted a real person.
I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and I just needed to continue on stabilizing and maintaining good food habits. I am not obese. I thought this was a medical, professional business. I enjoyed these people at the center and finally when I wanted to finish the last part of my contract, they closed the doors and said call in. I said, “What abt. my refund?,” then they changed the numbers and info. and said to call this 800#. I feel robbed, ashamed, a victim, angry and taken advantage of when they will not even return my emails. I just wanted someone to listen who was educated and experienced.

In 2004, I went to LA weight loss and I was told I could apply for a credit account on my own because my credit was bad so they allowed me to use my mom as a cosigner except that she wasn't physically there to sign and the lady convinced me it was okay and it would not effect her in anyway. At the time, I was 22 and so stupid but I thought okay. I didn't know that the credit would be a third party company but it was Care credit with GE money bank.

I am very fat and have C.O.P.D. So, I went to LA Weight Loss to join. I was crazy and was talked into a program. They said I had to get the LA lite bars to help with weight loss and stay on program better. They did not tell me how much these candy bars cost. They said I would need them for the 52-week program. I was very shocked when my credit card was billed $607 for the program and another bill for $598.80 for LA candy bars. I had to quit after three weeks for health reasons. I called my credit card company to see if I could get refund. They told me to talk to the center first. I did and all they want to refund is $443. They said they could not refund LA lites. This is a lie. On paper, it says any products not taken from store is refundable. This is $414 still in store. I have called customer service at 1-877-524-3571 six times and they say they will call back in 48 hours but never did. So, I think I will call Attorney General Roy Cooper. Do you have any ideas? Thank you.

I also paid for all the protein supplements (LA Lites) for the full 2 years since they offered a discount if purchased in advance. I paid a total of nearly $3300. I started the program 10 months ago. The center closed without notice 2 weeks ago. The franchise owner will not return calls. The corporate headquarters does not return phone calls. This is happening all over the country and somehow they are still in business. I would be happy to receive the products that I purchased in lieu of payment and just end it there. Help! This closure affected every client at that center. We are trying to gather clients together on Oct 5 for a meeting to discuss our options.

That was several months ago I would really appreciate a refund. This has been a real expense and I can't believe a company could do this. Allot of money spent and didn't get what we paid for.

There was no notification, just a note with the corporate office number to call. I had to pay all fees upfront to join. I paid for 36 weeks of weight loss and 52 weeks of maintenance for a total of $699. I also had to pay for 3 months of supplements and one month of LA Lites bars, totaling $199. I paid $898 for 88 weeks of service and got 3 weeks!
The corporate office claims the center was an individually-owned franchise and they were not responsible for my refund. Why then were all my checks made out to LA Weight Loss? This woman, Patricia **, took my money, cashed the checks, and then left the building empty. There were other members at this center. How much of their money did she get? This is an outrage, a complete scam. LA Weight Loss just pushed the responsibility off on the woman who owned the center, but they are just as responsible for the refunds. They had their name on all of the contracts I signed! This woman, Patricia **, is nowhere to be found. I have left messages and she will not return my call. How do I get my money back? I went to the location I joined at, the doors are locked, no sign on door and phone number no longer working. I found another location in my city and went in there. They gave me a runaround but said they would check with their corporate and call me back. No one called so I have been calling them. Morgan, the girl now answering, said she will look into this for me and call me back.
I called her back, she said she is waiting for corporate to respond to her email and she will call me. I asked her for a phone number to corporate and she gave me 1-877-LA-HELP-1. That number is not a working number. I called Morgan to ask for a number that works - she said that is the only number she has. It seems that none of the 800 or 877 numbers are valid or working. The number on their main website 8003314035, which is the number to call to find a location in your area; I called the number and a recording tells you no centers in my calling area. No matter where you call from, the same recording is played.
It seems they are a big scam. Trying to contact them is next to impossible, and wanting to know where my $399.00 refund from a year ago is, I am like a dog chasing my tail, round and round getting nowhere! It seems other states have lawsuits with LA Weight Loss and consumers in those states have gotten refunds back. I am in CA and want to know what to do to get my $399.00 back. I hope you can help me. The total cost came to $570 for 50 weeks and she said I needed to sign some papers to get 6 months payments interest free. I did not realize I was committing to a Care Credit card; I thought it was an LA Weight Loss sponsored payment plan so I was surprised when I got a credit card in the mail. When I called in to ask about it, some new person said I should have known. I also told the original assistant manager that I had been bulemic for years in the past and that you are never really cured from bulemia--you just take it one day at a time, and also that I was diabetic but my blood sugar was under good control.
Her main question was had I been bulemic in the past 2 years, which I had not, but I told her it would be so easy to fall back into bulemia. She said if I did, I couldn't be part of the program. She also said they had numerous clients on the program that were diabetic and they did great on it. On my second visit, they really pushed the LA Lite, a sort of candy bar that has corn syrup on the label as the first ingredient. I had been given a discount coupon for a bulk purchase of these candy like bars and they said I had to buy them on my second visit to get the discount. So I bought a contract for 40 boxes which had to be taken at the rate of 2 boxes per week even though you paid all at once.
The cost of the bars was $436.13 which I paid on either a personal credit card or a check. After 2 or 3 weeks of following the program, I had gained 3 pounds--it truly was larger quantities than I had been eating while I lost my initial weight prior to joining, but they said to keep on eating the bars and stay on the program. They looked at my food diaries each visit and each "counsellor" told me I was making good choices, although when I didn't lose weight they said I needed to drink extra water if I ate one of the diet meals, which wasn't in their handbook because you had to drink 8 glasses of water per day anyway plus you had to eat 2 fruits per day and their own literature said pears was one of the best for fiber but then they said I should eat citrus fruit instead of pears., etc.
It was like they were making up the directions as they went along, never mind what their own booklets said. I did lose one pound of the 3 I gained on their program by the 8th week but my blood sugar was up and I felt I was becoming bulemic again, all due to the LA Lite bars. They were so sweet and had very little nutritional value and they made me crave more and more sweets which was one of the things that lead me to bulemia years ago. During the first 8 weeks I mentioned I felt like I was becoming bulemic again and all they said was 'if you do, you can't stay on the program.' At that point, staying on the program was the least of my worries--bulemia can be life threatening and I didn't want to take a chance of getting it again. On my initial phone call, they said they had 9 dietitians on their staff and I had hoped to be able to get counselling to deal with my food issues.
On my first visit after I joined, I asked to talk with a dietitian, and I was told that they had none on their local staff but I could ask them questions and they would call a dietitian at the main office. I feel mislead on that--I would never have joined if I had known there was not a dietitian at that office. I went in and signed papers on or about May 30, 2008, and we agreed on a refund on the membership of $349.20.
At that time, they said I couldn't get anything back for the LA Lite candy bars that had not been picked up and taken home. They said it was in the papers I signed but they would have someone call me. The next day, someone named Lou Ann called and said she would consider a partial refund on the bars. Later, Natalie said they would refund $142.70 for the unpicked up bars, which is a LOT less than what I was charged. She said it would be 4-6 weeks to process my refunds since it was done at headquarters.
After about 8 weeks when I received nothing, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Natalie filed a response in which she said she had done her part and it was now up to Brentwood, TN., which is out of the Knoxville BBB jurisdiction. Then I found out the office I had joined had been sold and the new owner says he is not liable and I had to collect from the previous owner in Brentwood. The local office gave me some phone numbers and e-mail addresses and I called and e-mailed all of them.
No one ever responded to voice messages or e-mail and the local BBB says it can do nothing more. These people are bait and switch experts and seem to be practicing medicine without a license and they are con artists. I have since found out that the local workers are low paid and depend on commissions on the bars and supplements and according to my internet searches, it appears that many of the offices are having legal and financial problems, some even settling on damages for class action lawsuits. I am sorry I ever went there. Besides dealing with the problems of elevated blood sugar, and the financial loss of over $1000, this has been extremely stressful and stress is extremely difficult for anyone, especially a diabetic.

I sent in a certified letter asking for a refund like I was told to do on the internet sites at the time and I have heard absolutely nothing. I do have a copy of what I sent in and when. Thanks for looking into this. There are complaints all over the internet calling for a class action suit but if something is not done soon, they are going to get away with this. I just sent an email to their new LA Weight Loss Center and I tried to call the new 800 number and I got a message saying no centers in my area, to go to the internet. So they even have their phones flagged so I cannot get anyone on the phone. Thanks again.

When I joined LA WeightLoss, I was told that I must purchase bars in order to follow and participate in LA's program. I was then told If I purchased 112 boxes that I would get a great deal. I purchased them with Care Credit. I am not with LAWL any longer and they still owe me 97 boxes. I have requested to either be reimbursed or to order the bars and give them to me. I have made this request 4 times in the past year and have even gone in. Every time, I am told they will order them and they never do. They even still show that this is owed to me in their system. I want a refund now.

I joined LA planning to spend about $200-$300 dollars and ended up spending about $1000. I only wanted to lose about 40 pounds. (Which I did) I did find the program to work and I even became an advocate for then, referring clients and posting my success story at the clinic. However, my complaint is this, my incentive to lose and commit was the refund check that was guaranteed after maintenance. (If the weight stayed off). I received a small check in late December and another in January. They told me they sent for my refund just days before the first check came because I was getting curious as to how long it was taking.
Here is what ticks me the worst. I deposited the first check immediately because I spent a little more at Christmas than planned and needed it. I then waited a few weeks more for the second one. I planned to use the cash to cover some vacation debits and thought nothing more of it. That is until I returned from my weekend away and found a bank statement with over $100 dollars in charges due to insufficient funds. I could hardly believe it. I immediately called the bank and they said they would research what happened and would get back to me. (I had perfect banking with them up until now) Later that day they called and said it was due to a stop payment on my refund check. WHAT? I was livid and called LA immediately.
Of course the manager was unavailable. (the whole day) so after picking up my bank statement the next morning, I went into the center and did my complaining. She told me that they only submitted one check so she didn't know what happened. I then said if it was a clerical error they could have had the respect and decency to pick up the phone and say so. They have all of my information on file. Communication could and would have avoided all this. No one contacted me or tried to say, hey we made mistake and need to collect. No, they almost seemed to maliciously get their money back. They did not have to use that tactic. I am an honest person.
It has been nearly three months and all they can tell me is we are waiting for a response from Pittsburgh. They said that they do not have a customer service contact there so I just have to wait. She did however say she would shoot them an e mail. The manager also said that she used to work at the bank and if it were my first offense they could take off all the fees. Wrong and insulting. I asked them for a refund of all the fees and a statement for my bank claiming ignorance and fault. I would like to keep my good standing with them. I am about to demand a contact number or email. It seems like they think that if enough time goes by may be I will let it go. Not my style.
I have lost money, gas and time addressing this. Money and time that is valuable to me. I have two small children (2 and 4) not easily dragged into the clinic. I have gone there every week since this has happened to inquire. Some times twice. It became too difficult to do with two active toddlers so I had to arrange childcare and my days just to get a polite reply that we are still waiting. If I tried to call there was even less of an answer. As a preschool teacher I am not wealthy and do not have cash to just extend to any one. I just do not know what to do next so I am hoping telling them I filed a complaint will help.

It was returned not deliverable as addressed. My contract was for weight loss, stabilization, and maintenance. In addition, I had purchased additional bars in advance. I believe the amount due back to me for the unfilled part of my contract is $248 plus the cost of 11 boxes of bars (at least $175 or more), for a total of at least $423, also, the medical issue caused by not being able to complete the program due to diabetes.
I realize now the amount of sugar in the mandatory bars was not good for a diabetic, and were very addictive to get off. I went out on a limb to pay this amount so I could get healthy. I can't afford to pay out this kind of money to someone else and don't even want to knowing that something like this could happen again. I would appreciate any help with this matter.

I first visited LA Weight Loss in February, 2007. I have tried and had little to no success with other weight loss programs and was hoping that the one-on-one counseling would help keep me on track and provide me with the motivation I needed. WRONG. First of all, I know what my main obstacle with weight loss is. At one point, many pounds ago, I had someone take an inappropriate interest in me sexually. This sent me into therapy, cost me a job, and the pounds started packing. Obviously, I am not shy about this. I realize that this is the obstacle in my weight loss success, and I told the weight counselors about this incident and how I was working through it in therapy. Instead, the LA Weight Loss employees remained staunchly convinced that my husband was the cause of my slow (15 pounds in 15 weeks) progress, as supposedly he wanted to keep his wife fat so that she wouldn't be attractive to other men. I burst into tears right there in the office and fled, never to return.
While I don't expect that everyone's experience would be as severe as mine, the fact remains that I lost very little weight, and constantly roller-coastered the entire time I was on the plan. I also paid over a thousand dollars up front and was constantly pressured to purchase their product. I also never had my measurements taken or my blood pressure when I was supposed to. If you are like me and have a real emotional problem that is trying to set you up for failure, do what I did and consult with a therapist about what you should do.

Before I joined I was very misled about the cost of the program. The amount was according to the amount of time to get to my goal weight, not the amount indicated in the advertisement. Apparently the cost of counseling weighed heavily into this amount (which amounted to me being weighed on a scale once per week, and asked what products I wished to purchase.) There was always lots of pressure to purchase their foods and supplements. I agreed to pay this amount, then was told that I needed to purchase the Lite Bars to successfully lose the weight. This, of course, would be a benefit to me to purchase the bulk of them immediately, so I could get a discount on the expensive bars. To get to my goal weight, I needed to purchase 98 boxes of LA Lite Bars. I am still eating the bars that I purchased a year and a half ago, and probably have about 30 more boxes left.
I was told that I would have support after my paid counseling months were up. Even after my goal weight was obtained, I should feel free to stop in as often as needed to pick up diaries and the tools to get me started back up again. After I stopped in today, I was told that I could not have any of the information or weekly diaries because the program is now changed and that I would need to pay membership again. It cost me approx. $1,500 to join, and I lost 14 lbs. which did not stay off. Now they want me to pay again to get what was promised to me the last time.

I was told in November (in secret by an employee of LA Weight Loss) that the center would be closing! It did not matter about the success of its clients, they were not making the amount of money they thought off of all the sales of nutrition supplements. They chose instead to offer the choice of going to two other centers, both of which are over 50 miles round trip! A lot of the clients at this center live close by or come by on their breaks. Paid money up front for services that were not met. They closed before my time was up and didn't return my money.

I found out on Friday, Sept. 21st that the Bend Center was closing from a friend. I went to Bend & talked with them about a refund, transferring to another center, getting the LA Lites I was still owed. They gave me the information that I could transfer my 57 weeks ($564.30) to another center or take it in products and they would order the 22 boxes of LA Lites that I still had coming. They told me I had until next week to decide. They would not refund in money only products.

I signed up for the program and was also told that I had to purchase all the lites or I would not be eligible for my rebates. I bought the lites as I went thru the program because it was the only way I could afford it. And paid over $600.00 for the program. I stayed with the program faithfully for about 2 years. I rec. my first rebate of $143.00 and then I had another 26 weeks to go for my final rebate check.
I went in for my final weigh in and was within the required 5 lbs of goal weight and found that they had closed their doors for business. They did make good on my balance of Lites left on my account but I am out my rebate. What upset me the most is in talking to one of the girls that worked there they knew something was happening and never said anything to help us. I was also told by an ex-employee of LA Weight Loss that it was not required to buy the lites in order to rec. your rebates.

I went in last week to sign up for the weight loss program with LA Weight loss centers. I paid $252.00 for the plan then I was told the diet supplements were an additional $67.00! They then brought me the contract that talked about the LA Lites. The contract stated that the LA Lites needed to be purchased to successfully complete the plan. The contract states the rate of $29.00 but suggest that the best way to purchase is to do it by bulk. I signed the contract figuring that I could purchase a box and if I liked them then purchase another, never once being told that they must be purchased by bulk.
This is where it all came out that I HAD to purchase the plan in bulk for $975.00! When I refused, they told me that the plan could also be purchased for $578.00 for just the stabilization bars of 6 weeks! I continued to tell them that there was no way I was paying any more money for this program. They then sent a rep to my home to drop off boxes of the courtesy bars; they taste like chocolate covered doggie treats!

I called back that day and told them I will not be buying the bars at $29.00 a box. Julia told me no problem they just made the bars mandatory last week so I would not be required to purchase them if I did not want them. Today I went in and was told that if I did not purchase more I could not continue the program.

It was tedious and frustrating because they never stuck to what they said they were going to do when I joined. The cost was almost $1,000.00. I had a family emergency occur and had to leave and go to another state. They told me that I could not go to another LA Weight Loss Center. Therefore, I arranged with them to continue when I returned. I went back in 2006 late in the year. I found that it was less dependable than when I joined.

I went in to the center and I was helped right away, they were very friendly. I got the scoop on the program minus the fact that I would have to purchase the LA lite bars even after I lost the weight. I only needed to lose 20 lbs so I would only be on the diet for 10 weeks plus 6 stabilization wks and 52 maintenance wks. but in order to receive the rebate of 1/2 cost of the program I would have to be on the LA lite bars which came out to be about $28/wk X 68 weeks = $1904 plus $640. which was the cost of the program for a grand total of $2544.00 just to lose 20 lbs!
I went back within 24 hrs to cancel and they were very rude. The manager told me she was busy and that she had already told me over the phone she would refund my money.
So I gave her a letter of cancellation and asked her to put it back on my credit card, she never did but the good thing is that I called my credit card that same day and asked them to note my acct. that I had cancelled within the timeframe allowed, so when I called them, they knew immediately so now it's being investigated by my credit card company. I wrote a letter to the corp office explaining my situation and they invited me back saying maybe they could change my plan and let me see another dietician in the office. That wouldn't work for me, the office was so small and sometimes there was only one person there to help you and it was always the individual that always made me feel uncomfortable. I too went into LA Weight Loss when my hopes were at their lowest. It sounded perfect. The price didn't seem so bad until I got in there. The advertised specials were no longer in existence...the day I was there. I was to pay over $800 immediately but was assured that I would get half of that back after I met my goal. Ok, so if this really works and I will get at least $400 back, then it might be ok.
There was high pressure sales and so I caved and signed up. Who wouldn't when they are promising this is it!!! I did ok but felt disappointed when each time I went for a consultation I was hit with a sales gimmick. You really need these bars, they are going to make you succeed....... I would tell them I didn't want them and couldn't afford them. Oh, but you can finance them or you can get a great discount if you buy today....... Again, feeling pressured to buy I caved.
Yes I was weak, but I felt they wouldn't help me if I didn't buy their products. Every time I went in, I felt as though they were trying to sell me something more and that was the goal rather than supporting and encouraging me. They didn't really care what I was going through. Then after three months on the program, I had personal issues. My mother almost died, my work was requiring more time so I wasn't able to go in three times a week for consultations. It may not have been so bad but there were NEVER enough employees at this center so you always had to wait and wait to see someone so time was definitely an issue.
Therefore, I told them I wanted to continue and didn't want to jeopardize my money/sucess and would like to be on hold until I was able to resume coming in. They said that was fine so I got completely involved in what was happening in my life and didn't return. When things finally settled down, some months later, I went back in. They never once called me or wrote me to encourage me, to see if I was coming back or if I had fallen off the face of the earth....... I was disappointed in that as I thought this was to be about support and encouragement. It wasn't.

The LA Weight Loss Center promised the following:
One on one counseling-you will visit the center three times a week for motivation, guidance, knowledge, and encouragement. Track your progress-during your visits we will weigh you, review your diary and take your blood pressure.
Personal Eating profile-we will assess your eating behaviors and your relationship with food to help you overcome weight loss challenges. We will answer any question you have, keep you motivated to lose the weight, and help you reach your goal.

When I went to my 3rd visit that was when they tell you that you can buy them in bulk. Instead of paying $29.95 for them.
No matter how you ask you questions regarding what you have to buy in the program they do not give you direct answers at the time you sign up. After spending 45 minutes with a very energetic young lady touting the benefits of the LA Weight Loss program I signed up and walked out $551 poorer. I had a second appointment 2 days later with a different person who did kind of an in-take evaluation on me. The third appointment, after I had consumed the juice for the weekend, I was presented with my plan for losing the 30 pounds.
I almost fell out of my chair when a plan was presented for me to purchase over $1000 worth of their LA Lite bars. When I said that was not going to happen, a second plan for over $500 was presented as plan B. I was still shaking my head when plan C was offered, at over $200. I felt like I had been slapped in the face.
I know that all of this had not been explained to me - that I was supposed to eat all of these rather bad tasting protein bars. When I explained that I would not be purchasing their LA Lites in bulk, I was told my three sessions were over and all I needed to do was show up and weigh in 3 times per week. I was actually told that I would not lose the inches if I did not use the LA Lites.
They drag out the 3 sessions just long enough that you cannot back out of the contract. I was so disgusted with myself for falling for such a stupid thing, that I called them up the next day and told them I would not be returning.

Went in to discuss their weight loss program after seeing an on-line advertisement that said pay $5 per week. At time of appointment, I chose to enroll although was told I would have to pay my 2 year program costs all up front. I didn't understand why they said 5 per month but was desperate at this point so I signed up. Was told that the there was a non-refundable enrollment fee of 149.00 that I would not be able to recover; however, the remaining program costs would be recoverable if the program was not working for me. Total program cost was $480.60.
At a 2nd appointment, I was told that to ensure optimal weight loss, it was strongly recommended I purchase LA Lites to assist with my weight loss. While I was told it was not a requirement, the purchase of these bars was required to get my weight loss guarantee. For a bulk rate discount, I purchased all of the bars I would need for my weight loss phase in advance: this cost me approximately $700.00.
Very quickly into the program I discovered the program was not in fact a lifestyle but a fad diet. Additionally, I found out a few days after signing up that I will need to begin traveling several days a week as a part of my job and this program will not work given they require you visit the office 3 times a week. I (within 10 days of enrolling) went back to the center to ask for the appropriate refunds. I was told they do not have a refund policy and a Regional Manager would have to call me to discuss my options.

Well, I didn't try to get a refund, as they have signs posted everywhere about no refunds. I went in last year for a consultation and Stacy told me how much it would cost and I said I want to think about it. I made the mistake of bringing my kids who were acting up. Anyway, she said to me it will cost me at least $100 either way. Well, I was speechless, as I thought the consultation was free. My plan of grabbing the kids and making a break for it went out the window at that and I ended up with a new Care Credit card with $1,000 plus dollars on it.
The plans are not like they promote at all. They tell you that you can go into any restaurant and choose what you want but most approved itmes are salads. They tell you you can have ice cream, but once your in only non fat sugar free icecream. I thought it was going to be more of a moderation plan. For example a small amount of regular ice cream, and occasional dinner out, but it is very restrictive and they keep wanting you to buy more and more things. Anyway, I did okay for a while, but gave up and now have gained back all the weight I lost. Some, however, may be due to a recent thyroid problem that has been discovered.
Anyway, my suggestion is to people is to not even go in and talk to LA Weightloss, it is not as it seems on TV and radio at all.

Back in November, just before Thanksgiving, I went in to an LA Weight Loss Center to see about joining since in their TV ad they make it a point to say "No food to buy", etc. I liked the idea I could use my own food. When I went there, however, they bombarded me with all these supplements, some of which I would be unable to take because they contained iodine and I'm allergic to that. They also said I would have to use their nutrition bars in order for the system to work and to qualify "to get half my money back" at the end. Also to qualify, I HAD to go in three times per week for weighing and a consultation.
However, I found that their hours were very difficult for me to manage due to my work schedule. They were only open Monday through Friday from 9-7. On Saturdays they were only open from 9-1. One week, I had been SO swamped I could not get through until evening hours after 7 so made an effort to get in on Saturday. I had a client earlier that morning and so after that client, when the second one came in, I placed her in the chair and prepped her and then told her I would be right back because I needed to go down and get weighed. I raced down there (about 8 minutes from where I was) and got there JUST a couple of minutes before 1.
The door was already locked and the lights were off. I saw the woman who was the manager in there and tapped on the window. She opened the door finally and said she was already closed. I told her I HAD to get weighed because I had been unable to get in all week long. She was really snotty and said something like "well, I've already closed everything down" which made me really wonder because how much is there to just sticking someone on a scale and weighing them? It couldn't take more than 5 minutes!
Well, I told her then that I just didn't think this was going to work for me. She then retorted "Why? Because I close on time?" and I told her no, she had obviously closed early because the place was already locked and dark when I drove up in front of the door a couple of minutes BEFORE 1. I just left and they called two times after that and left messages on my machine telling me they had specials going on their nutrition bars but I never called them back.

I joined LA Weight Loss in January of 2005 after having a baby in November. I paid for 19 weeks of weight loss, 6 weeks of stabilization, and 52 weeks of maintenance. I was high pressured in to purchasing LA weight loss products as well stating that if I did not buy them now, the costs would significantly go up. I asked what I was paying $8.00 per week for (i.e. what services I would be getting for the money). I was told that I would get counseling, a weekly blood pressure check, and a monthly measurement check. The counselor (Julie) showed me what questions the counselors would be asking me and told me I must come in at least three times per week.
I informed her at this time that I often traveled for work and would only be able to come in 1 to 2 times per week, but would try for more as able. She said this would be fine. The program I joined up for stated that I would get half of my money back after losing the weight and another half after maintaining the weight loss for 6 months. Julie did not inform me that I would not qualify for the refund if I did not come in 3 times per week or buy LA products. I found this out later.
I did well on the program for the first four months. After this time I had to travel a good deal and my weight loss stopped although I was still following the program. I went to the Dr and was told that my thyroid was the problem. I was feeling very ill and asked my counselor if I could take a break until I felt better. She (Julie) told me this was no problem and to just let them know when I wanted to start back. Weekly I would receive a call from the center and I thought this was to just check on me. They did not tell me that while they were "checking" on me they were using up the weeks I had paid for.
I complained to the manager Marcy but had to purchase more weeks to cover the balance of my weight loss. I was told by Marcy that I was not allowed to use stabilization or maintenance weeks for weight loss and if I wanted to keep coming in I would need to purchase more. I complained at this time that I was not getting what I had paid for.
