As an Uber driver I would need to have a commercial policy; something that our Geico policy couldn’t provide. And because Safeco is the only option in our area we had to go with Safeco. The woman, Irma, who sold us the policy conveniently left out the part where if I got in an accident and had a rider in my vehicle then I would not be covered. Do you see the hustle? I am an Uber driver. That is what I do. I pick up riders and take them to their destination. So, to sum up, I was sold a policy that gave me no coverage. Irma got her commission, Safeco received their monthly premium payments and now that I just got into a 3 car collision yesterday, I was not at fault, I will personally have to pay for the damage to my car. ($Thousands$) And if the rider, who was in my car decides that she needs medical attention I will be responsible to pay for any and all of her medical expenses.

They have duplicates of claims for me that should have just been a conversation and they won't fix it with Nexus Lexus! Find an insurance company that would educate you, not these clowns.

With insurance in all categories on the rise I took the time to read line by line my coverage on the Declaration Page. Thank goodness I did because I noticed coverage(s) added that I never asked for or consented to. They are as follows: Personal Offense Coverage, Refrigerated Spoilage Coverage, Identity Recovery Coverage and Equipment Breakdown Coverage. Granted in total it’s only $46.00/yr but I never asked for them and don’t want them! In my opinion that is very sneaky and unethical to do. My advice: Be sure to read your Declaration Page every year. I’m very disappointed with the under-handed tactic. Other than that, I’ve had no problems but then again I’ve filled no claims EVER.

Poor communication and experience. Significant water damage to interior/exterior of house. Inspector came when I was not home. Denied claim. Did not even enter house to review damage. --- Did not even ask to enter home. I am fine if a claim is denied. But expect the damage to be reviewed first. Sloppy work. He never talked to me about anything before filing his report. Dismissive when I spoke with him. I did speak with my agent. Realized that it would be a waste to pursue.

Safeco/Liberty Mutual Insurance is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. It took 2.5 years to settle a simple sewer line claim that caused damage to the basement living area. Between "Line Coverage" and home coverage, $100,000 in repairs were needed, and they have paid less than $20,000, dragging it out over 2.5 years. They kept requesting more pictures and details when they already had all the pictures and pages of detailed billing. Don't buy insurance from either of these companies! Their ad says it all, "Only pay for what you need!" You won't get much, so don't pay much.

Not one person there in your customer service department took any accountability for ongoing comedy of errors and fixed the internal problem, instead you blame me. If I could give a minus rating, I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I had my auto and homeowners insurance with them for 20 years, and when I needed to file a claim, the company, ranging from customer service to adjusters, was awful. My auto rates kept going up, even though I had no accident for 15 years! When I did file an auto claim, the adjuster was never available and the adjusters manager had the nerve to tell me that they were doing me a favor by servicing my account! In an email, nonetheless! When I requested that this manager stop contacting me and that another manager be assigned to my claim, the arrogant manager contacted me yet again, to lie about how great their customer service was. I had to threaten to sue for harassment in order to get them to stop contacting me.

As for the homeowners' insurance, it was the same thing. Rates increased even though no claims were filed. These people sent out a vague letter saying that from their satellite view, my house was moldy and infected with bacteria and that it would need to be inspected. When I called to get more details on what was going on, the refused to answer my questions and said that they would not renew my homeowners insurance with two months left on it. I got auto and homeowners insurance the very next day and dumped Safeco like yesterday’s garbage. If you are smart, please stay away from this company!

They took another month to give me a check for 3/4 of what it would cost to fix and then they cancelled me without paying the rest of MY MONEY!!! I recently received a Non-pay cancellation letter from Safeco on a home I sold six months ago. I requested cancellation of the policy at that time. I just spent over 45 minutes trying to reach a live person regarding the letter. The phone number for the agent listed on the letter was to an insurance agency in Utah. They were confused as to why I was given that number as they don't write policies in Nevada where I am located. I then tried multiple phone numbers I found online for Safeco. None of the numbers I found would connect with a live customer service agent. I am just profoundly thankful I never had occasion to contact Safeco when they were active as my insurance co. I certainly would never consider them for my insurance needs in the future.

Just fired them for all 3 and switched to USAA. In short, I had a catastrophic repair at my home and this company couldn't care in the slightest. No adjustor came out. The one I had assigned to me wasn't interested in helping me in the slightest. Essentially, I believe their policy is to say no to everything. They kept asking for pictures that we had already sent, over and over. They made zero effort. I told them I was going to cancel my policies with them, and they didn't flinch or attempt to retain me in anyway.

Unfortunately, this company is terrible with communication. I had them write me a homeowners policy and send me confirmation that the policy was in place and it was their job to reach out to the mortgage company so they can get paid. Well after 90 days they sent me a cancellation document and so when I reached out they claim that they were not at fault and that I had access to, their portal to receive communication. After sending them proof that I did not have access to that and that they had the right information and failed to reach out to the mortgage company, they refused to take blame and then said they would not reinstate without a penalty against me Stating that I didn’t have coverage any of those days even though I paid the first month out of my own pocket. Apparently, their underwriters neglected to consider this prior to approving our coverage. We are now scrambling to find coverage for our home.

The only notification we received from Safeco was a one sentence letter and a partial refund check. No explanation was given directly to us, and no end date of coverage was provided. These people are crooks!

Updated on 11/18/2023: We are having challenges with Safeco/Liberty Mutual on a claim. This claim began when we had a fire suppression pipe broke and flooded our home on 11/19/2022 while we were out of town. We have tried with limited to no luck at all to resolve this claim since November 2022 and have had nothing but delays, troubles, harassment, frustration, sleepless nights and tears. This has been one of the most horrible experiences we have ever had.

We have received 2 estimates from Safeco, 1 from a young inexperienced adjuster that came to the site initially and wrote up the repairs. The adjuster currently assigned to the claim did not accurately depict what was damaged nor the proper materials to replace what was damaged after pictures and an explanation was sent in. This current adjuster is the fourteenth adjuster or individual within Safeco involved so far. The current adjuster has also completely ignored many items needed within these very poorly written incorrect estimates and or only included paint over destroyed items. In addition he has misrepresented items clearly shown in the pictures as different poor quality items when the original quality item is still available.

To date Safeco has refused to review their own Estimates nor the outside contractor's Bid we received. I have requested over a dozen times to please go through these line by line with the pictures and video to show what their estimates are missing and or what is included in the bid supplied. In lieu of reviewing what was on hand they requested I have their “network” contractor come to the site to do an estimate that they would pay on or I could use them.

During my first call with the network contractors’ representative- ..., I was met with accusations that I was committing insurance fraud. After this experience I was left with a very uncomfortable feeling about this company and its integrity; therefore, I requested a different “network” contractor and refused to allow … into our home. Safeco and its adjuster … and his manager, … continued for months to insist I must have this … company do an estimate for the work needed. I continued to request a different contractor from the “network” and they have told me this company is the only one to be able to provide an estimate and they continued to force this onto us, they ignored these requests and continued to bully us to use this one and only “network” contractor.

With a new Estimate from Safeco they have paid up to a more realistic amount where we may be able to start repairs. It is impossible to determine what exactly they are covering and whereas this current estimate is in a series of lump sums totaling only a percentage of what the Bid sent is for. It definitely does not cover architectural, engineering or submittal fees as this has yet again been declined. Without these we can not meet the required documents needed for a permit. This puts in a place where we can not start the project legally. We have now been advised that the Additional Living Expenses now have a deadline of March 31, 2024.

I have to take pause on this as we are unable to get plans as these costs have been refused, so we can not get a permit, which means we cannot work legally on any repairs, but we are now restricted to a time frame. This is bullying us to either cover these denied costs ourselves or start illegally without permits, or accept their Network Contractor's Estimate and hire someone who has not given any information of what is being done to repair our home. This all is so abusive on so many accounts and this bullying and abuse has caused many sleepless nights for both my wife and I. Safco has not at all done due diligence in producing a detailed estimate, nor a Bid as requested.

The home currently sits partially gutted with no kitchen, no bathroom, no drywall in many areas, no flooring upstairs, a very large portion of insulation gone and no heat system and no way to start. I know the above is a bit lengthy and I do apologize for this. I could continue with the other very distressing upsetting items that have yet to be solved but believe this above tells the challenge to stay away from Safeco/Liberty Mutual Insurance. This current adjuster has commented “I has several claims in litigation and don’t care, I will not pay a penny more on this claim.” “These people just want more and more”. We only want what will repair our home in like kind materials and quality. Again, STAY AWAY.

Original Review: Safeco - Liberty Mutual says you only pay for what you need. Then when it is needed they will not pay. We had a water loss 10 plus months ago and we are still out of our home. The adjusters original estimate was so bad it is embarrassing. Nothing in the estimate was correct for materials or finishes. I requested more than a dozen times for this to be reviewed and they insist it was what it would take to fix our home. Then a slight adjustment was made after months and it still was not even close to what it would take to repair our home. I have been lied to, ignored, deceived.... They have broken every Department of Insurance rule throughout the process, disrespected my wife and I. We have had to hire a public adjuster and they are treating them the same. Completely operating in Bad Faith throughout the entire slow and horrible process --- STAY AWAY, get Travelers insurance, they are great.

Hail were about baseball size and penetrated through the picnic tables in the backyard leaving large holes. It was severe.

Still the company denied the claim and wants to pay only to repair the roof, which is impossible. We had 3 reputed local roofers came out and inspected roof from our side, all expressed same opinion about there no way this roof can be repaired, it must be replaced. First of all, my agent recommended SafeCo to me after MetLife, whom I previously had a policy with, was no longer going to be offering HomeOwners Insurance. I had never filed a Homeowners Insurance Policy before. Every step of the way, SafeCo made the whole process a complete nightmare! First of all, the claims rep that I was assigned to, Matt M, was NOT helpful at all. I asked repeatedly for a list of Roofing Companies that are "preferred" companies that are approved with SafeCo. Yet, he would not communicate a list to me. During two recent windstorm events, 16 shingles had been blown completely off my roof in about 4 different locations. I had contacted a couple of roofing companies to provide an estimate.

The roofing company submitted about 70 photos to SafeCo showing the damage that occurred to my roof during the storm. The Claims Rep stated that because the photos were taken from the ground, they would need to have a 3rd party called Hancock Home Consultants out of Atlanta to come and inspect the damage. Hancock Home Consultants has a 1.8/5 star rating on Google reviews. And, I can totally see why! I was notified via email that I should be expecting a call from this 3rd party adjuster, Hancock within 2-3 business days.

When they called, they only let it ring 1 time. Then, they left a voicemail that was totally indecipherable and could not be understood. So, I call Hancock, and they scheduled a time for the adjuster/technician for the following day, Thursday, June 01 between 2-4pm. Then, later that evening, I get a text message from the technician stating that he would be there the following morning at 8:30am. I responded to him and said that I had been confirmed for a time between 2:00-4:00. I never agreed or consented to an appointment at 8:30am as my roofer needed to be present, and would not be available at that time.

I spent the entire evening on the phone trying to get them to reschedule for the time I was originally promised. We were finally able to find an agreed upon time for the following day. But, it was a difficult and time consuming process. I texted the details of all that had occurred to my SafeCo claims rep. My text was I Un acknowledged and ignored!

Then, the following Monday, June 5, 2023, I received a phone call from the same claims rep named Matt, who not only denied the claim, but insisted that the cost to replace 16 shingles on my home would cost around $400-$500. Which is ridiculous and absurd!! I asked him if they had made an effort to contact any roofing company in my area to arrive at that amount. And he indicated to me that they had not. Apparently, they run what they want to through an algorithm, and then quote whatever number comes out. And, if it's less than the deductible, which in my case it was, they just deny the claim!

That amount was absolutely way below what a reasonable amount would be to repair the damage to my roof. Especially Post Covid, when a lot of shingles are no longer being manufactured, and the fact that the costs of materials and labor has completely skyrocketed recently due to inflation! So, I communicated this to him. And, I asked him what happens if the roofing company is no longer in business, or if they no longer manufacture the same color and type of shingles on my roof.

This SafeCo Claims Rep named Matt M states to me that my Insurance Policy does NOT provide coverage to ensure that the shingles will match. I asked him how he would feel if he or a member of his family incurred damage to their roof, and their insurance company told them they would not do anything if they couldn't match the shingles. He said that he wouldn't like, or agree to that. So, then, I specifically asked him why he is expecting me to be okay with that? He did not answer the question. Only to say that he has to abide by what the policy says. He then went on to tell me that they offer some type of extended coverage that would cover the shingles to ensure that any replacement shingles would match.

When I offered to pay extra for that, of course, he told me that it was not an option on my current claim. So, why make the situation worse, and add insult to injury by telling me something that is offered, but not available to me. I told him that I understand that policy has to be followed. But, it is unfair and unreasonable to expect the Homeowner to know every single detail of the coverage. And, also that at some point, there should be some effort made to take care of me as their Customer.

The fact that I have first hand knowledge of other Homeowners insured by SafeCo, who sustained less damage than I did, and had their claim approved, and I did not is a blatant example of discrimination, and targeting/profiling certain customers. And, them favoring certain customers over others. This is a very dishonest and untrustworthy company that goes out of their way to find exclusions or some other excuse to NOT pay claims! Do yourself a favor, and choose any other company out there!! Any other company has to be better than SafeCo and Liberty Mutual!!!

I have been a Safeco homeowners insurance customer for over 40 years. I have never had a claim on my home until this last year when we noticed water damage and black mold. Since that moment we have been living a nightmare with your company. I am over 70 Years old and require my my son and granddaughter living with me as I am unable to live by myself due to serious health conditions and am currently on oxygen. Because of this, we require living in a one story home as I cannot go upstairs.

Since we have had to vacate our home we have had one horrible stressful move to the next. We have been in several hotels way too far from our home and my granddaughter's school, require 45+ mins drive each way. We have also stayed in multiple Airbnbs then to our recent long term rental but with multiple incidents between rentals where we've had nowhere to go. Even at one point my son and I had to wait at a park in the car with our belongings and my oxygen tank that only lasts 3 hours. Now we are yet again about to be homeless and have nowhere to go.

The only thing that has been consistent is the lack of communication from our agent, Ashley **, Sam **, Kia ** and more. We have continued from the beginning to request a long term rental to avoid the situation we are in now. It is ridiculous that after almost 6 months we are still house hopping and yet again about to be homeless. This is overwhelmingly stressful for all of us. We have been pushed from one place to the next and have had to spend hours upon hours for weeks/months calling for assistance and asking for help to ensure we do not find ourselves homeless and yet here we are again. CRS has been assisting us but can only do so much when they are not getting responses either.

At this point I am at a true loss. One of your agents (Ashley **) who has been repeatedly unresponsive to me, my son, and the CRS agents and contractors, has continued to state we have denied homes we have not denied, refused to return calls and now without calling me back, sent an email yesterday saying we have nowhere to go and if we stay where we currently are we will be personally responsible for over $5,000/mo in rent. She provided no other alternatives, did not call yet again when she said she would and we are to vacate 5.28.23 (2 days). (Screenshot of email below).

We cannot afford this and shouldn't be in this situation in the first place as this is why I have paid your company as a home owner for almost 50 years. Additionally, the negligence, lack of urgency and communication has lead to the delaying repairs on our home and we are almost 6 months post the initial claim and move out. Our home is currently packed up with our belongings in storage and not livable as repairs have not begun. We do not have an option of returning to our home as this process has already been dragged out so long due to your company's negligence and we are still months out from having our home repaired.

All we have asked for is a 3 bedroom, 1 story home within the bus route of My granddaughter's school (20 miles). We have continued week after week, day after day calling, emailing, etc and still we have gotten nowhere. Instead now we have an agent that seems to be intentionally not responding to us, CRS and refusing to assist us. The recent delayed and very rude call was made after hours and not recorded.

She insulted my son, leading to him hang up, she called back and his girlfriend answered, Ashley then acknowledged she was not me, or my son (not a resident of our home) and proceeding to make false claims about us making outlandish demands, disclosed personal information, stated she would refuse talking to my son going forward and claimed CRS made statements they confirmed not to be true the following day. She stated she would CALL me directly the following day and yet the only communication I have received is the email attached and we still have nowhere to go as of this Sunday, in 2 days.

At this point we are considering hiring an attorney, going to the media and doing anything I can to get us the help we deserve and paid for, for almost 50 years. This is beyond unacceptable and borderline abusive. The stress and anxiety alone this has caused me and my family has been overwhelming to say the least and obviously not good for my health. I am pleading for assistance. Please, if you can help, contact me at ** Or refer me to someone that can assist us. This is very urgent.

My agent recommended Safeco because their plan had competitive rates and coverage. I recently had a flooding incident at my home and Safeco were truly outstanding in providing coverage for my repairs and helping me obtain contractors. They covered all reasonable expenses to make sure that my house was back to how it was before. I will definitely renew with them and recommend them to others.

I had auto/homeowners through Liberty Mutual and then the agent went on medical leave. Last year I contacted Safeco online and spoke with someone from AWL Insurance in Austin, Texas and the guy whom I spoke with changed our auto/home to Safeco insurance. He didn't speak about options on home or auto, just gave me a quote which wasn't too bad. I had to file the first homeowners claim in my life (have owned homes for 35 years and had many insurance companies) and I have found out that my deductible is over $10,000 for this claim. Safeco guy today says that this was an option to save money on my policy. The guy last year never spoke of options and I certainly wouldn't have chosen a policy with a $10,000 deductible to get a roof replaced. Safeco is the worst insurance company out there today and their JD Power and consumer report ratings back that up. Please, PLEASE, go elsewhere for insurance, save yourself the aggravation!!!

My husband and I had a horrendous experience with our cross-country move from Boston to Greenville, SC. Our movers' negligence caused approximately $7,000 in damages to our home furnishings. I tried everything I possibly could to obtain a fair and reasonable settlement from both moving companies that were involved, but after many months, it became clear that this was never going to happen. At that time, I decided to try to obtain a settlement with our insurer, Safeco Insurance Company.

Prior to our impending move, I had contacted Safeco several times, specifically to inquire about our homeowners insurance coverage with respect to the move. During both conversations, I was told unequivocally that our furnishings would be covered anywhere in the world as if they were at our home, even when the items were in-transit. I relied on this information when I made the decision not to purchase additional insurance from the moving company. Unfortunately, relying on Safeco's assurance was to my detriment when I filed my claim.

When I filed my claim, I was initially told that our insurance had lapsed which was utterly untrue. Once that issue was resolved, then the claims adjuster told me that they would have to find the recordings of my calls to find out what their employees had said to me. They were able to locate the recordings and it was confirmed that their employees had said what I recalled. As it turns out, my homeowners policy only covers two particular "perils" during a move. If the moving truck had an accident or my items were stolen, then I would have been covered. The fact that our movers had been negligent and damaged our items was apparently not a covered peril. Safeco's employees never told me to review my policy or led me to believe that I needed to do further research on this topic.

My argument was that it was a lie of omission on Safeco's part, and that any average consumer who was not in the insurance industry would have believed that they were fully covered during the move. Ultimately, even after writing a certified mail letter to the President, Safeco was unwilling to stand behind their employees and denied my claim. This was an extremely disheartening outcome, to say the least. Safeco's website specifically states that "We're standing ready at life's trying moments - here for you at any time, at any day of the week". They also state that "When you have a claim, we take care of it. It's that simple." I certainly don't feel like that is the kind of service that I received with respect to my claim, and I will no longer be doing business with a company that I cannot trust to have my back.

After a windstorm in November, I was left with 12k worth of damage and no electricity. I called to file a claim the same day and the claims adjuster canceled 10 min before the appointment and said he would expedite an appointment for adjuster to come out. After 3 days of waiting to get rescheduled I called and the insurance company had no idea he didn't show up and scheduled a second visit. The second adjuster canceled and said the case would be handled at a desk. Again, no word, so I called and emailed and she said she wasn't capable of handling this type of claim, so she would need to escalate the case. Never was escalated and they will not return calls, answer calls or email. This is the worst I've ever been treated by a company in my life.

Their Process to get insurance is interesting and so off I would NOT recommend them at all. I used Safeco for my rental property so I decided to use them for my personal home, auto and umbrella. They asked to send some person out to look at my home. He came by, took some pictures, and left. I then get a notice that because I had some trash in my side yard, they decided to not insure me. Trash I placed there cleaning up around the property but was waiting for the rain to end so I can take it to the dump. Not a fire risk. Not an escape route, or other risks. Not really sure other than they simply did not want me as a client. They lost a good client who has 36 years of driving with no tickets and one no-fault accident. 30 years of home ownership with 1 minor claim my insurance got back because of a faulty appliance.
