I am doing a complete bathroom gut/renovation. I purchased all Kohler products - sink, toilet, shower head and fixture with hand wand and transfer valve. We received our polished chrome fixtures and quickly discovered the shower head didn't have the right threads for the neck plus it was scratched. Leads me to believe someone returned it prior due to damage and they sent it out again. Sent it back -- returned the old and got a new one -- better. Then, install the toilet, put the toilet seat on and it doesn't line up. If you have it screwed in correctly, it hangs a 1/8-1/4 inch off the bowl to the left. Go to Home Depot to see if there is another seat and notice their comfort height Cimarron toilet on display is doing the same thing. Mention it to my neighbor and hers is the same. Really?!? Then our trim kit was missing the beauty ring and set screw. So had to order another trim kit/handle and expedite delivery.
So tonight the plumber is back and the transfer valve which should have 3 positions and was defective. Only 2 work! It was installed weeks ago before the tiles were put on so the plumber had to cut it out. He is planning to come back in a couple of days so we'll see how that goes! I have Kohler fixtures throughout my home and have NEVER had these problems before. This is extremely disappointing that Kohler has fallen down on quality control!

I have two Kohler bathroom sinks installed less than two years ago. There is rust around the overflow on one of the sinks. We have lived in the house for 16 years and did not have any rust in the sinks that were replaced with Kohler. I mailed a letter with details and a photo of the sink to Kohler. Kohler maintains that the rust was caused by a "particulate of some kind" from the environment and is not a fault of the manufacturing or Kohler's responsibility. In essence, Kohler does not stand behind its guarantee of enameled cast iron sinks.

I won't ever purchase from Kohler (or Whirlpool for the same reason) because you can't get your product serviced after 7 years. Imagine that you build a shower around a shower door (or install a built-in refrigerator, as per my experience with Whirlpool) and a contractor comes in to install a new ceiling fan and accidentally breaks the shower door. No replacement parts, nope. I need #948302, which is a small gray part designed to hold the bottom of the sliding glass shower door in place, but I can't get a replacement.
I hate to say this, but European manufactures seem to offer customer service with a long term perspective. I will never purchase a Kohler product again. I buy products that I expect to last and expect the company that I purchase them from to have a long term perspective about customer service. Happy to pay more to get this. Quality is generally better too.

My wife and I bought a brand - new house, moved in in August, 2014. My oiled - bronze kitchen faucet started leaking at the handle. I took the handle off and tightened the plastic nut (after cleaning up the giant mess under my sink) and all was fine. I chalked it up to the faucet getting jostled around in the building process. Two weeks later it's happened again, only this time I wasn't around to notice it. My kitchen is flooded, my sink cabinet is ruined and I'm so mad I could spit nails. I'm throwing this piece of garbage into the trash can where it belongs and I'm making my warranty people replace the cabinet and the faucet, but I will refuse anything that comes from Kohler. Garbage, garbage, garbage.

Built my home in 1989 with a Kohler Lakefield Black Kitchen Sink. Recently replaced my old sink (since it was getting dull and had no shine) with a new Kohler Lakefield Black Kitchen Sink. In less than a month the finish on the bottom of the bowls were getting dull. To protect the finish I used a mat when I washed pots. I was told that by Kohler that using the mat on the bottom of the sink when washing pots caused the finish to dull. Kohler refused to stand by their warranty and would not replace my new sink. Now $700 later, my new sink looks the same as my old sink. Kohler should have stood by their warranty which they did not. I also see that that the sink was taken off the website. Maybe there was something wrong with the manufacturing of this sink.

Hot water faucet was leaking. Devonshire model 4" center lavatory faucet. Checked website, found out part numbers not available. Called Kohler direct and was told on May 26, 2015, that the order would be processed and sent out in five working days. Checked status on June 3, 2015, to find ship date scheduled May 29. Called customer service where I was told it would be SEVEN TO TWELVE business days before shipping. Apparently Kohler is clueless about the water problem in California. Wouldn't be so bad were it not for the fact house builders didn't put shut off valves in system, so in order to stop a constant stream of water leaking out of valve, one has to shut entire system down. Would have been nice, to say the least, if Kohler had stocked items needed and under warranty. This isn't what I consider even remotely good customer service and leads me to the conclusion hell will freeze over before I buy another Kohler product.

OK... Kohler kitchen faucet purchased 8 years ago... so it has held up well, function great, till last week. Water flow only trickling, some leakage noted... took it apart as per their instruction manual. Placed an order with Kohler.com, parts on the 15th... As of today, the 22nd... have yet to receive an email that the ordered has shipped (as the website stated it would do). Check order status online, looks like it has indeed not processed and/or shipped as yet!!! I called their "800" number for clarification... HAH... you get pre-recorded malarkey over and over again... got nowhere! That's OK Kohler, I have been without a fully functioning kitchen faucet now for a week, who knows how much longer. Can't believe in this day and age, it takes this long to process/ship items! One thing is certain, my next faucet will NOT be Kohler... customer service extremely lacking.

We hired a contractor to completely gut and renovate our upstairs bathroom, using Kohler products. It was a nightmare - these products were defective. The brushed nickel finish was rubbed off in several spots on the sink faucet. Had to be replaced. The sink handles were improperly designed, contractor could not install them, had to be replaced. Toilet had to be replaced, water pressure too low, trouble flushing. Shower spout defective, contractor spent time and aggravation trying to get that replaced, and it's broken again since. I would never, ever buy anything made by Kohler.

My grandfather bought his new home in 2000, in which a Kohler Rialto Toilet had been already installed. The Rialto Toilet for many years has been established as being defective in design, and the manufacture and selling to the public by Kohler was well known since the year of 2000. Kohler's remedy for their defective product that was designed, manufactured and sold to the public through their distribution of this defective product, was a fix it kit in the amount of $47.00. An average person, in replacing a toilet seat to a Kohler Rialto Toilet would be impossible as the design of this toilet is internal.
The bolts that attached to this toilet come from underneath and are internal, and to replace are almost impossible. Kohler remedy to this situation is just put a bandage on it, not admitting that the design of this toilet in the first place was defective, that the toilet seat in having to be replaced wasn't their fault, and selling their product to the public, they are not responsible for any personal injuries their customers may incur from their defective product. In this case, it wasn't a matter of just replacing a Kohler Toilet Seat, it became such personal injuries to my 89 year old Grandfather, in which the toilet seat of the Rialto Toilet became unstable, the bolts (which were metal) became rusted, and the toilet seat itself, broke from the toilet, causing the toilet seat to become unstable, and the toilet seat sliding to one side, as he lifted himself from the toilet, causing him severe and painful personal injury.
At 89 years of age, my Grandfather has been active in all his business ventures, but since this accident that was incurred by a Kohler product, he has received personal injuries that may affect him for the rest of his life. You might think that my Grandfather could weigh more than 150 pounds that might cause this incident to occur, which is not the scenario. He weighs approximately 135 pounds, but is not mirror of a man, and runs several of his corporations to this day. Kohler Companies, Corporations, subsidiaries, and International Companies have not taken into consideration of what their defective products have caused to the general public.

Had a Kohler toilet installed, within days it started "clicking off." The seat assembly is held in place by two very cheap plastic clickers. Since the toilet is set in a corner any side move with your body will click the seat off. Of course, Kohler will tell you that it is a consumer issue; I will tell you this is a cheap, probably Chinese built, assembly which should never have been envisioned, developed and installed. Stay away from Kohler products, this company is coasting on an old reputation but now manufactures ridiculously, non functioning products.

DO NOT BELIEVE THESE RESELLSERS WHO PROMISE DELIVERY IN ONE TO TWO WEEKS. The products they sell DO NOT ship "directly from Kohler." Kohler can give you NO HELP whatsoever when your shipment is delayed for weeks and the re-seller blames it on "the manufacturer" or "the distributor." Kohler accepts responsibility and authority ONLY for orders placed by telephone or online DIRECTLY WITH KOHLER. I ordered my bath tub from eFaucets based upon that site's assurance that it would be shipped within one to two weeks. It has been SEVEN weeks, and I STILL don't have an anticipated shipping date. Customer Service (HAH!!!) at eFaucets says it’s out of their hands and I will be "notified by Kohler" when the item actually ships. IF YOU WANT KOHLER... BUY IT FROM KOHLER. (Of course that's another horror story: I bought directly from Kohler last time, and that shipment, too, was four weeks late in arriving.)

Myself and others experienced the same defective product malfunction. We remodeled our powder room several years ago and used a relatively expensive Kohler sink with a so-called lifetime warranty. The enamel started flaking around the overflow outlet. We sent a photo to Kohler and received a call. At first the answer was that It was rust related to local water and not their fault. When I reminded them that it was flaking at the overflow outlet, which seldom if ever got wet and that we were on a municipal water supply, they changed their story to it must have been cleaning agents we used. I then said there were five older sinks in the house cleaned the same way without the problem.
The representative said that later lifetime items would be covered but not this one. So now I have to tear the counter off the vanity and remount a new sink at my own cost. I will never buy Kohler again. I am in the middle of remodeling our master bath; that cost them a tub, two sinks, and a toilet sale in addition to me telling anyone remodeling not to use Kohler products.

I'm small renovation contractor and deal with most brands on daily basis. On my own addition in master bathroom me and my wife decide to get big 60 x 42 shower base. Choice is very limited in this side and we like modern look of Kohler Groove shower base. Ordered it from Supply house (better service than big box stores). When trying to install it I discover sides are not parallel and cut from factory crooked. After work with belt sander it slid in alcove. Then I noticed how bowed front of shower base are. It was 1/2 deep in the middle of threshold compare to left and right side corners. How do you fit glass doors on this? With some pushing I was able to force it down and get it to 1/8. Call Kohler and ask about stress and future longevity. They ask me to return for exchange for another unit or get my money back. Returned and get new unit in two days. Check the unit at supply house – same bow, uneven sides, crooked and acrylic crack near drain area.
I have installed inexpensive fiberglass units with better quality and workmanship before for a lot less than $460.00. Going to order Maax shower base from different place it may not look modern, but now I'm more concern about quality and longevity of shower base than about good look. Big disappointment, will stay away from Kohler in future. Glad this happens on my own project and not on my client. I really hope all this Kohler fixtures I have installed before will not fail in my client homes. They pay good money for them and expect good service life from them. Will steer future clients away from Kohler fixtures toward Delta, Moen and Toto.

A client of mine purchased a Kohler sink for her new kitchen. We did not test it for leaks (directions didn't indicate this). They do indicate that the sink should be installed in a certain fashion so it can easily be removed for replacement. There is no such thing as an easily removed sink once the granite top has been installed, the plumbing hooked up. The sink had a pinhole which leaked the first time used into the brand new custom sink base. Kohler will replace the sink but who handles the labor to do so or the water damage to the sink base? They say the average cost to replace a sink is $200. Perhaps a top mount with a simple faucet and drain and perhaps in low cost labor areas but not in Fairfield County.

When we built our 3 bathroom house in 1993, I bought 3 Kohler toilets and they were properly installed by a good plumber. Unfortunately, all of Kohler's toilets at that point in time (when they were moving to the type that uses less water) did not work well in terms of flushing solids. After a few years, as the state-of-the-art improved, I replaced two of them with American Standard and they are perfect! It makes such a difference to have a working toilet - it's like getting contacts.
Anyway, at this point, I had paid retail for 5 toilets and didn't like the idea that Kohler had wasted so much of my money with their faulty product. I wrote them a polite letter saying as much and they called back a few weeks later to say "There is nothing we can do." They said I should have contacted them within the one year guaranty period. I said they didn't have a good product then so what could they have done? They had no answer.
Next they said a car company doesn't fix their car 21 years later. I said that recalls for defective vehicles happen all the time and the age of the car doesn't matter. I added that the cover of TIME Magazine presently shows Mary Barra dealing with exactly that issue as GM looks for a solution to the faulty ignition switch used for many years. The Kohler rep could not respond to that either. Anyway, Kohler made a defective product and they are unwilling to do the right thing to solve the problem - replace toilets designed wrong.

Recently I bought a kohler toilet model k15409-0 which, in my opinion, is not worth a tinkers dam. LET me count the ways!!! How is it water saving at 1.28 GPF, WITH ITS HIGH POWERED FLUSH technology (PURE BS) if I have to use a bucket with 2 more gallons of water and pour into the bowl to clean all the feces left behind? It isn't! My 52 year old CRANE OUTPERFORMS this new one 10 :1. I am not worried about saving water- I want a clean toilet when I flush it! And let's mention the fact that since it has a LOW flush rate, how much time is it going to be before the lines are clogged with paper and such left behind that could not be sent to the septic tank? Now let's mention the fact that I bought a NON RETURNABLE item at 232.00 plus 200 dollars to have it installed, and it is literally a piece of LOW QUALITY... at my expense of course. But this progress, this is the American Way, this is new innovative techniques... When in fact it is just a new way to RIP OFF JOHN Q. PUBLIC.
How business savvy is it when sales drop because of this inferior product? When no one buys these toilets, where is your profit margin? I know governmental regulations come into the picture that you may not have control over, you just need better lobbyist to present needed changes. And 1.28 GPF IS NOT GOING TO CUT IT, PEOPLE. ASK ANY BONAFIDE PLUMBER WITH CREDENTIALS! Another lack luster quality of this prized possession is that one cannot put a cover over the seat because of the engineering, when I do the lid will not stay back, pain in the butt for me, innovative styling for you. Who do you think is going to win this one? I do not have to keep anything I do not like, except the guy I married, and I have had him for 52 years also, so it can't be that I am THAT difficult to please. I am going to rip this thing out and use a sledge hammer on it, so the next unsuspecting fool will not even be tempted to use it, this is a promise not a threat. Let's not overlook the fact, that since I am 4'10", and I did want a handicap toilet for my mom, that I can now dangle my feet on the commode when I use it. Not many calls for that innovative quality.
This partially summarizes how dissatisfied I am with your product, but with your latest engineering skills, you can pretty well ascertain I am ROYALLY TICKED OFF. Where I bought this item is not the culprit, in fact, were very congenial in trying to rectify the problem. This is solely on Kohler's quality control features and sorry toilet manufacturing. Get a grip!

As a remodeler, I take great pride in my work. I have always found that the best way to maintain a good reputation is to do a great job. A key ingredient in good work is to use quality products. For years, I have specified Kohler plumbing products. I practice what I preach. I have 3 baths equipped with Kohler products. I also have 2 kitchen sinks with Kohler faucets. Last night, I received a call that the Kohler Forte faucet which I had installed 3 years ago was not delivering any hot water. All of my clients are special to me. I immediately grabbed my plumbing tool bag and drove 20 miles in rush hour traffic. Most homeowners exaggerate. This couple did not. No hot water was available at the faucet. All other plumbing fixtures in the house delivered hot water. Simple crossing of the hot and cold lines confirmed that the hot supply line of the faucet was not working. A quick call to Kohler and I realized that the young individual in the cubicle farm located where ever knew more about construction and Ohio construction law than I do after over 30 years of experience. The fault was my clients and enough said.
I purchased the unit at Home Depot. 3 different Home Depot plumbing employees (all 3 were either plumbers or retired plumbers) agreed with me that the condition of the unit was not normal. Nor did they believe that my clients nor their plumbing had caused the problem. Kohler's experts in the cube farm knew better. After 30 years, I am saying goodbye to Kohler. This was the second call back problem I've had in the past 30 days. Both incidences were units bought and installed 3 years ago. I replaced the defective unit with a Moen at my expense. Had a small Kohler tank and bowl installed in my downstairs powder room in May. Even while the plumber was here, he told me the handle was a little "sticky", and I'd need to be sure it went back to its original position after flushing. I thought that was a bit odd, but he assured me the issue would resolve itself over time and use. Well, it didn't, and it was annoying to have to regularly snap the handle back after just about every flush. In early August it was left running for several hours and we had a huge flood causing serious damage to carpet and hardwood floors. Same plumber installed a new handle without a word. Blamed us and also told us our cesspool was backing up, which he claimed caused the flood. The cesspool was fine. Kohler claims no problem with sticking handle has ever been reported. He said the clog was in the toilet S-curve itself, the pipes below are fine. The next 3 clogs I understood what was happening; if this toilet cannot handle my waste, who are they designing it for? Kohler customer service was spectacularly unhelpful; I would have at least felt better if they admitted the problem, or paid for the plumber visit, or some combination. Their agent actually said that 4 clogs in 3 years is NOT TOO BAD. Does she have any idea of what happens to a household when the toilet is clogged? That is totally unacceptable!!! Additionally 20 yrs ago my parents installed a one piece toilet in their bath, and brass fixtures. Housekeeper used abrasives and ruined the finish. The clog definitely has to do with the mechanics of the commodes. Also, the bowls stain easily and I believe it is because of the inferior quality of the finish. No amount of cleaning will prevent stains. Never had this problem with previous commodes.

I purchased and installed a Kohler Cimarron toilet today. Although it is not battle tested yet, I've found the tank to be very wobbly and I'm not at all happy about that. The toilet I took out had 3 bolts holding the tank down, which made it very sturdy. I'll probably try to get a refund from Home Depot tomorrow.

Had a Franke sink installed, which used Kohler sink baskets. The finish wore off the baskets within a couple of years. You can't just replace these with something from the Hardware store because the flange is 1/8" wider than the ordinary baskets, so it doesn't fit properly. Ordered replacement part from Kohler. It cost 10x as much as an "ordinary" sink basket (even though it only lasted for a couple of years!). Plus high shipping costs and shipping would be 7-10 business days. Well, weeks went by and it didn't come. When we finally got through to Kohler, they said "Oh, that item is on back order, it will be out in a week or so." No one had mentioned this. More weeks later... you guessed it ... no sign of the part, you can't even reach them by phone. We have a bucket under our sink. The last Kohler product we ever buy.

Eating dinner with my husband at the dining room table, just adjacent to our kitchen, I was suddenly having white flecks land on me from an unknown source. It continued and as we investigated, found that my Kohler porcelain/cast iron sink was spitting pieces of porcelain. Literally, it started to pop like popcorn with tiny shreds of porcelain pinging up into the air a great distance. Nothing was in the sink. No one had bumped the sink. There were no cracks in the sink or any damage at all for that matter. I was always very careful with my beautiful porcelain sink. The popping continued for more than 24 hours, slowly eliminating all of the porcelain that covered the sink separator, as it was a double sink.
We called Kohler. Resistant and disbelieving at first that we somehow must have been lying to them, as they insisted they had NEVER had this happen before, they eventually sent us a certificate to have the sink replaced with the same model. We took our sink to Home Depot and the exchange was completed without event. However, my fear of the porcelain sink never went away and since this episode I have again replaced my sink with a nice safe stainless steel sink. We were lucky. Families with small children or elderly may not have been. The potential for this porcelain going right into someone's eye or stepping onto the very fine pieces with bare feet or using your kitchen dish towel where pieces would hide, could all have caused injury. I would not recommend a porcelain covered cast iron Kohler sink to anyone.

I hate Kohler and I hate Home Depot. Somehow the shower was constantly leaking, somehow the water made hole in the wall, and did about $800 worth water damages to my wall, furniture, carpet. Finding parts and help to fix it is very hard. I spent over 9 hours trying to fix my bathroom. I can't find the model number for the parts and living in Hawaii means even more costs to ship things over. Plus I had lots of trouble with the toilets constantly leaking and sewage overflowing even with a seal in the floor. Left the master bedroom stinking. One toilet actually cracked badly and broke after a few years of use and was replaced. The toilet seats also broke. I don't weigh that much. Terrible quality material, horrible design, and dangerous to use. Avoid Kohler products and never shop at Home Depot for plumbing goods!

I have two toilets in my house that are made by Kohler. The rubber ring on the flush stopper on one toilet became defective and I checked the local hardware stores and they did not have the part. I contacted Kohler and they sent me two at a price of over $6.00 each. The rubber rings were a little larger than those used on a wide mouth mason jar. I could have bought several boxes of jar rings for that price.
The other toilet issue came about when a house cleaner we hired broke off the flush handle, because it flushes backwards to other handles. Again I went to the hardware stores to find a replacement. I could not find a Kohler handle, so I bought a similar handle and installed it. It did not work properly, so I decided to contact Kohler and order a handle. They sent one for the price of $55 with shipping. The Kohler handle does not look near as good as the handle I tried to install the first time and that handle cost me around $12.00. I have other toilets in my house that do not give me the troubles that I have had with the Kohler products. I will not buy another Kohler product. They are not worth the cost!

First, we live in a different town where we have to go buy it and that two installs cost wise. It's the stupidest design ever and hard to clean. The contractor replaced seals twice with no positive results and a licensed plumber replaced seal again and could not find a cause of the leak. After reading this forum I understand this is not an isolated problem. Can you get help from Kohler? NOT AT ALL!! Within 7 months the bowl was losing the porcelain finish and a ring was forming that can't be removed. Anyone have any solutions for that? Our original toilets were used for over 35 years and NEVER looked as dirty as the new ones. On complaining, I received a call from the customer service saying, "We cannot do anything about it and faucet cannot be replaced." This is the way this company stands for their product. PLEASE DON'T TAKE CHANCES WITH THIS COMPANY'S PRODUCTS. YOU WILL END UP WITH HIGHER LOSSES. I have experience with Pfister products... We purchased a Kohler kitchen faucet from Home Depot. The faucet developed a slow leak, not visible when turning the faucet on/off. This went unnoticed and caused damage underneath our sink where we store flower vases, dish soap, rubber gloves, etc. It also caused mold and an accompanying moldy smell. We have an asthmatic in our family, so our concern was to seek immediate repair.
When we tried contacting Kohler it was a real challenge to even reach someone. I remember getting upset with my husband for not getting the issue resolved and he said he was on hold for 20+ minutes on several occasions. So I tried calling, it was ridiculous. We just didn't have that kind of time to repeatedly try to reach someone at Kohler. I spent a lot of time going back and forth with their rep Ms. **. It was certainly a joke in dealing with their "customer service". We've had rental properties and purchased Kohler for 20+ years for the rentals, as well as, our home.
When we received the letter denying our claim, it included comments that didn't seem to relate to our faucet. So, I asked them to send me a picture of our faucet, based on their findings. They sent a picture of a faucet that was all bent up and damaged in areas that were not related to the faucet we sent in. When I questioned it, they said it was the faucet we sent in. It couldn't have been! I knew at this point they were being absolutely dishonest and knew I would no longer support Kohler. I didn't want to deal with a company that would resort to those tactics in dealing with a long term Kohler customer.
If you need copies of my emails to/from Kohler I'd be happy to share those. But, we spent so much time on trying to get this resolved in a professional manner. I let Kohler know I was ashamed of them and their business practices. We will never purchase Kohler again, nor refer anyone. In fact, we will do the opposite...we will share our unfortunate experience when the opportunity arises. Buyer beware when purchasing Kohler. You may wind up being extremely disappointed, as we were. I had a new powder room remodel one year ago. The supplier highly recommended Kohler even though I had an old toilet from the 80s that took two flushes for solid waste to be flushed. Kohler always seemed like a great name in the business and I thought, Great, they've improved their product to maintain that good name. However, suddenly the toilet began leaking. My remodeler came in and reset the toilet on a new wax ring thinking it had failed somehow. Thing is, the seal looked good and well seated. The next day I called him and said, "It's leaking again." I had company coming and needed that extra toilet in the house. Just to be sure I called a plumber instead. He came in with a little different ring and checked the outlet to the toilet for cracks. It looked okay. So he replaced it and off we went. But no...I hadn't even used the toilet that day and it was once again leaking!! Becoming frustrated, I called him back and he went over the toilet with a fine-toothed comb so to speak.
Finally he found the problem. Under the bowl, nowhere near the flange that attaches to the wax ring, there is a white "plug" that repaired some kind of breach in the porcelain. IT WAS THAT which was leaking. Now to Kohler I go for replacement. To tell the truth, I would rather go with another company's product. But since this was such a recent purchase I'm going to seek restitution. From prior reviews, I'm praying I can get assistance.

Kohler XT-7 Gas leak: I bought a Husky pressure washer about 3 years ago. It is only used maybe 3 times a year. Tonight (6-17-13) I noticed a VERY strong smell of gasoline in my garage. This garage is attached to the house so this was a major concern right away. After checking the cars and lawnmower and finding nothing amiss, a look at the Husky pressure washer solved the mystery. There was a very heavy leak coming from the Kohler engine and a puddle of gasoline under the machine. Eventually, the smell of gasoline was detectable throughout the entire house. It was quite a job to get rid of the smell and the puddle of gasoline.
I have been around many types of gasoline engines my entire life and have NEVER seen anything like this. I mean, the machine was just sitting in its storage place and this leak occurred. Luckily, we were home and caught it very quickly. What if we weren't home and something were to occur and caused an explosion, etc? Apparently, this is not an isolated case with Kohler from what I see on the internet. If this is an acknowledged design flaw with these engines, shouldn't there be a recall or governmental legal action to prevent a potential disaster from occurring? I would hope that everyone who has been through this very upsetting experience would make their voice heard.

This time I took the toilet out immediately and looked underneath, sure enough, water was coming from the underside of the toilet, it was cracked in two places. Both spots looked like they had been checked and supposedly resealed with white sealer by Kohler, but obviously, the seal did not work. Both toilets are going back to the store where we bought them, I will not take a chance on trying the second unit and we will never buy another Kohler product. They make a sub-par product which is not inspected correctly and causes major damage in people's homes. So I recently quit working at a call center, Kohler is one of the call center's clients. Anyways, I quit because of the ridiculous "service" (If you want to call it that) about how Kohler has their account set up. Right on the front of the Kohler manual is the phone number and says "for Tech Support please call" and the phone number is right on the front. Here is the kicker; Kohler does not offer a tech support, or even basic information. All Kohler will do is referring you to a local dealer; besides a handful of them none of them know what they are talking about.
The way Kohler has their account set up, they do not provide any of their employees with product information. So for example, I would get a call from a customer saying "Hello, I have a 50 Kw, it is not working; do you know why?" Ready for this, I do not even know what a 50 Kw is. So I'm answering the call saying, "Thank you for calling Kohler power systems. How may I help you?" But yet, I have 0 support I can provide them. It was so uncomfortable... but it gets worse. Kohler sells your information, and before they will refer you to a dealer (who can't help you anyways), they ask for all of your information. This is exactly how a call would go:
Customer or a tech would call in with the problem or question; it would be something as silly as what color screws are on the generator, or what the decibel level is, or even what color the generator is. Some people want pricing, some looking for install manuals. Kohler offers none of that. So Kohler then advises to contact their local distributor or dealer. And, of course, no one knows who that is so Kohler will happily look it up for you, but they say they need a record of the call. So they then would ask for your first name, last name, mailing address, phone number, night time phone number, email address, where you found Kohler toll free number, and type of generator you have.
They will then provide you with a phone number, and can't transfer you. Now here is the kicker. If you hang up and call right back, they will ask you for all the information again. Now they said they need it for a record, but if you ask them to pull a previous record... they can't do that, lmao. But as a client of Kohler, they trained us, the employees, that their contact information is sold to 3rd parties. After 2 weeks I said ** that job and quit. It was so uncomfortable to put customers in that position I wanted no part of it.
Last thing, I want to ask for anyone who may have to call Kohler for any reason. Please don't become angry with the agent. Trust me, they do not want to ask you all those questions. Kohler makes them do it, if they want to keep their job. In this economy, you are lucky to have one. Here is a secret. If you just say: I do not want to provide my information at the beginning of the call, the agent can look up your distributor with just your zip code. Also, reach out to Kohler headquarters and tell them that when you invest thousands into a generator, you would expect good customer service. I hope everyone enjoyed my rant.

I have been working through my local Lowe's to purchase a special order toilet (color). I have now had my toilet twice arrive at the store broken. This would not be an issue if not for the long lead times needed to get another in stock. I first began in late February with my first order and got it home before I noticed the base was broken and returned it in early April. The second arrived early May at Lowe's broken and they caught it. I called Kohler to see if they could assist with expediting my order, but they could apparently care less about dissatisfied customers nor bad feedback. They simply place the toilet in a shaped cardboard box with little to no reinforcement, causing breakage if handled roughly.
I can see how this affects their profitability or worse, indicate a poor design which breaks easily. The style is Devonshire. I hope American Standard is still in business when I start my next project as I seriously doubt I will do business with Kohler again if they give no consideration to helping customers.

We are a fully-licensed and insured remodeling co. in Virginia and have used Kohler products for many years and will probably continue to do so (I have personally been in the remodeling business for over 30 years and have always recommended Kohler among other brands). We have had very few problems with Kohler quality and performance in the past, but I must agree with "the runaround" the tech guys give the consumer. We recently installed a customer-supplied Kohler K-1418M in a Master Bath (this is an $8000 whirlpool tub) and have had a Kohler-certified repair tech out for the last 6 months attempting to quiet a very loud noise when the back jets are turned on - still unsuccessful.
I have had the Kohler rep out (a very pleasant individual and another reason I would buy Kohler again), but this seems to be an engineering issue (but getting the tech guys at Kohler to admit to it is impossible). So, I would recommend that consumers stay clear of this model. As the general contractor, even though this is not my responsibility, I will be there through full resolve - no matter how long this takes (I stand behind everything we do). So, may I add? I am a contractor who purchased a Kohler 1112-hl model spa tub from Kohler through a local supplier in November of 2011. My client sent me pictures of the white plastic jets and covers on three of the jets that have failed due to some mystifying shrinkage and cracking. Kohler has never sent out a representative to view the damage, nor offered to complete a product analysis as to the reason for the failure, even though they claim to warranty their product for a year.
Instead, they have their technical people look at tour photos and state that the customer must have used a harsh chemical or soap or detergent in the tub. They refuse to replace these 6 simple pieces in order to maintain good will. It is mind boggling to me how a company can make such a determination with sending a representative to look with their own eyes. I paid $1,440 from the supplier for this entire tub with jets, motors and inline heater; they want to charge me $414 just for the plastic jet cover kit. They think that the client abused the jets because some pieces are missing.
When you look at my attached photo, you will see that it is obvious that this thing shrunk and cracked. And yes, the owner removed the loose sharp pieces for safety reasons (he is a doctor). If you are interested in hearing about their run-around live and in person, my case number is ** and their no-help line is **. I suggest you take your tub business somewhere other than Kohler. We now have 4 Kohler toilets in our house. We chose Kohler based on design and operating features. The first one was a quality nightmare. It did not sit even on the floor as several tabs on the underside protruded past rim that sits flush to floor. After several trips to the supplier, we found several more that had the same problem. Two had toilet bowls that were tilted to one side. One, I brought home, only to discover the same after it was installed (1/2" of level). As others have complained, the interior glazing in the bowl of one has started to wear away. It requires more frequent cleaning. Several toilets did not flush properly and one was constantly plugging up. I was constantly repairing the fill valves on 3 toilets. They either started to fill more slowly (2 minutes plus), became very noisy or did not fill at all.
The last one purchased was one of their class 5 units. We wanted a 6-liter per flush and had to order one at extra cost. It is clearly marked as a 6-liter or less on the toilet bowl and on the flush valve. Apparently, the only difference between the 6 and 4.8 liter models is the plastic flush mechanism. The problem is that the toilet allows less than 5 liters per flush and there is no adjustment to compensate. Extra money for nothing. The flush handle broke off on 2 toilets. Fortunately for me, I was able to resolve all issues myself without having to call a plumber. I resolved fill and flush issues by replacing all internal tank guts on 3 toilets with a "Korky" fill valve and a simple flapper. The tank fills in about 15 seconds. No fill or plugging problems in over a year. I would also suggest buying from a big box store as they are more receptive to resolving problems. By the way, no help from Kohler.

I bought a Kohler Villager Tub as part of my bathroom remodeling. During a shower I dropped a plastic shower gel bottle and to my dismay it left several small scratches. I notified the Kitchen and Bath Designer with whom I worked who referred me to the Kohler supplier. Here is how Kohler works according to the supplier: First, I would have to pay to have someone come out and look at the damage; or I would have to take photos of the damage and e-mail them to Kohler for them to even consider my complaint, which I found impossible to do with my Kodak camera. I was then told by the supplier via e-mail that "Kohler has these requirements to make sure they protect themselves from fraud and false claims”.
Through sheer persistence on my part, the supplier finally agreed to come out at no charge. He came, took the pictures, and I heard nothing more until my next e-mail. The reply was "they are saying the only thing that might work is their cast iron cleaner used in conjunction with a piece of cork". Their cleaner, according to the label, is made for their kitchen sinks and it did not work. Through sheer persistence and the good fortune to have friends who have friends, I was put in touch with a Kohler tub repairer in my area who went to bat for me. The scratches were removed using a special compound and buffer at no charge to me although Kohler had the gall to tell the repairer that the scratches were not covered under their warranty. They should try reading their warranty.
Had all else failed, I was prepared to take the supplier to small claims court. No one has yet come up with an explanation as to why the tub would scratch from a dropped plastic bottle. And I have my fingers crossed about the integrity of the tub and the rest of my Kohler products. I now make it a point to tell my story to friends who are or might be considering buying any Kohler product.

Finally after 3 weeks I got from a local plumbing store a similar gasket, not quite as original, but did not leak the water in the bowl. Now when I put the valve back and turn on the water is leaking all the time. This was from special order, Home Depot, Orange, CT. I think that I am still in title for a new dual valve, since no one can help me how to fix this annoying problem over 3 months. Please help.

Kohler is not an ethical company. I've been reading about the many ways in which they have gypped customers or been completely unresponsive to major problems with their products. My experience isn't nearly as bad as a lot of peoples', but it does give an idea of the kind of company Kohler is.
Several years ago, we bought a lovely, decorated sink from Kohler. It came with a plastic covered wire grill that fits in the bottom of the sink to protect the decorated porcelain. Over the years, this grid had sustained the inevitable nicks of usage and the underlying wire has started to rust so that the grid was no longer very attractive. My husband went to a local Kohler dealer and ordered a new grid.
Imagine our surprise when this grid, which can certainly be manufactured for under $5, cost us $56 dollars! I wrote to the Kohler company asking for some sort of explanation. I received an answer saying that the grid was made to fit the sink (it is) and the asking price was... over a hundred dollars! I suppose it is priced this high in order to make the customer feel the he is getting a bargain as he only has to pay $56. But how dishonest!
The grid is made of the same material as a dish rack costing under $10 at target --only it isn't nearly as complicated as a dish rack. It is just flat with little feet. There is absolutely no reason in the world that this grid should cost so much.
Will I ever buy a Kohler product again? Not if I can help it.

I had my house built and we moved in April, 2007. As part of the building process we had a generator installed by our local Kohler dealership (owned by Kevin Wright). They sized the generator based on the size of the electrical load of the house. In a nutshell, they undersized the unit. It works fine in the winter, but in the summer with the full load of all the air conditioners starting up can NOT be handled by the unit. As a result, it shuts it self off and provides no power to my house.
Unfortunately for me, the Kohler dealer at the time is no longer a dealer for them. Kohler distribution/sales network is structured as: Kohler Corporate sells to a number of Distributors. The Dealerships buy from the Distributors and the Dealerships sell to the public. I've gone to the Distributor (RP Power) and to Kohler Corporate and have truly gotten no relief. I paid $17K for the 30KW generator and installation. My new Dealership has been very helpful in finding a buyer for my used unit. The resell price is $5K. My new generator (60KW) and installation will cost me $20K. Total, I'm paying $32K for a $20K generator.
I'm eating the loss in equipment depreciation, plus paying for installation twice. Totally screwing the customer is what Kohler's idea of customer service is all about. I would not recommend Kohler to anyone.

I thought that it wouldn't be a big deal to replace the lid. However, it does not work that way. You cannot just replace the lid--which, by the way, has nothing to do with the functioning of the toilet or the bidet--you must replace the seat, which does contain the bidet controls and the lid. A new seat and lid costs approximately $800. I am so angry about this that I will never buy another Kohler product!

The toilet seat on my Kohler Rialto Model K-3386 broke. As I see, others have the same problem of the anchors being inaccessible. The screw on the right came out okay but the one on the left would turn and not unscrew. I called Kohler and they said I would need their anchor repair kit at $49. This is an outrageous price for two pieces of hardware worth about $2. I then decided to see what else I could do to get that anchor out. I noticed that the hole for the right side had filler around the bolthole and decided to clean it out. The hole eventually enlarged to 1/4" to the ceramic. I pushed the excess material around the right side of the bolthole into the cavity with an awl then carefully pried the old anchor out. It worked and I had 2 each 1/4" holes.
I tried to find a wall anchor that would work but instead found some 3/8" lead anchors, 1" long, that uses 10-32 screws. Screws were 2" in length. The anchors fit snug in the cleaned out holes. I then screwed a 10-32 nut onto the screw then screwed the screws into the anchor about 1" and then turned the nut down to the top of the anchor. Then holding the screw in place with a screwdriver, I tightened the nut to tighten the anchor. I then loosened the nut, removed the screw from the anchor, and removed the nut from the screw. The last step was to mount the new seat. I installed it about a week ago and so far, so good. I also used washers where required, for spacing.

We purchased a Kohler Forte faucet from Home Depot April 24, 2010 and installed it a week or so later. About one month after installation, we noticed foam in the water but it cleared after running for 1-2 seconds. We assumed it was air bubbles. However, the problem progressed until the foam became more prominent and we eventually noticed a chemical odor and taste - much like a new garden hose smell - whenever we first turned on the faucet.
This alarmed my husband and I because in addition to our health, we were concerned about our new baby consuming formula mixed with water from the kitchen faucet. We stopped using the faucet and contacted Kohler June 9 to complain and they were already well aware of the problem. I spoke to a service rep named Laura who asked very few questions, and promptly sent us a new faucet after assuring me it would not have this problem.
When I inquired as to what caused the foam, Laura said that Kohler wasn't sure, they were still looking into it, but some of the faucets were doing it and some were not.
It's now been just over a month since installing the new faucet and guess what? It's starting to foam again. I am so disgusted with Kohler and will never buy another one of their faucets again. I called Kohler again this morning and service representative Angela told me that "Kohler is still working on the problem, so that's why the new faucet you received is still doing that." This is completely opposite what I was told in June when I shipped a new and supposedly improved faucet.
I told Angela that I had no desire to receive a new faucet and that I wanted a refund so I could buy a different brand faucet that does not leach chemicals into our water. She was very pleasant, and requested. I fax a copy of my original sales receipt to a manager, Danielle, who will follow up with me within the week, and supposedly, will issue me a refund. I faxed my complaint and original cash register receipt to Kohler today. We shall see what happens.I believe Kohler should issue a recall.
How many people are still using these faucets, unaware of the problem, not paying close attention, or simply unaware they should complain? We aren't the only ones with this problem. A quick search online reveals that both the Kohler Forte and Simplice faucets seem to have this foaming issue.

This issue has been reported by others on this site. The problem is Kohler one piece toilets with internal (hidden) toilet seat bolt anchors. When the seat cracks, it is nearly impossible to remove the bolts since there are no visible nuts. Kohler sells a removal/anchor kit for $50. With the kit, it would still be a time consuming job. The original seat bolts are screwed into corroded anchors that can't be completely unscrewed. I was able to partially unscrew the anchor and raise the screws enough to use bolt cutters to cut the screws. The corroded anchors can then be pounded down into toilet bowl land, where they remain inside the toilet. I purchased a new seat, but without the anchors, it can't be fastened.
I'm not willing to pay Kohler $50 extortion money for new anchors for a toilet seat. So my main bathroom has a loose but usable toilet seat. I will never buy another Kohler product. Comments on the google websites (google: removing a Kohler toilet seat) range from throwing the toilet away out of anger to spending days and using a hacksaw.

I purchased 7 Kohler toilets, model # 4584 - San Raphael; each at a cost of $867.00. Over the years, we have had some floods resulting from leaking toilets; some small and some of Biblical proportions. The first flood took place while the house was under construction so the builder's insurance paid to replace all the wall board in 3 rooms, the hardwood floors in 3 rooms and the entire stairway. The delay in closing on the house was both costly and emotionally exhausting. The second toilet that leaked cause $660.00 in damages as a closet had to be rebuilt. This expense was borne by us. The third of the 7 toilets to leak caused $2,247.00 in damages; not enough to turn over to our insurance company as we have a $2,500 deductable. The fourth toilet that leaked was, fortunately, over a garage so we did not bother to do repairs but the cost of a carpenter opening the wall was $79. Since purchasing the toilets, we have had over $3,000 in plumbing bills for toilet repairs. Two weeks ago, the fifth of 7 toilets leaked and brought down the kitchen ceiling. It ruined appliances, floors, ceiling and furniture. This flood was costly enough to turn over to our insurance company.
When I called Kohler to ask for assistance in getting a plummer to help repair the toilet, I was not to be heard. Eric, who I spoke to, would simply not listen and kept interrupting as I tired to explain the situation I was dealing with. Kohler finally agreed to repalce the toilets. Two days ago, 6 toilets were dumped in my driveway. Each box was marked with Heavy - 136 polund. My husband and I are seniors and had to try to move six enormous boxes into the garage to protect them from Hurricane Hanna's torrential rains. Yesterday, a plumber from Kohler installed 6 toilets, Model K-3466. When I awoke this AM, I heard water running. Inspection of the guest room revealed that the toilet had been running all night and the bathroom floor was covered in water. After lifting the tank lid, water sprayed all over the counter and floor. The toilet was turned off. I still don't know if the water was leaking into the living room ceiling. Only time will tell. We inspected the 5 other installations and found that none of the toilets worked. Two could not be flushed at all. The other 4 kept running after they were flushed and there was no waya to reflush them.
After checking the internet for complaints about Kohler, I read that the K 3466 had been recalled and that Kohler replaces defective toilets with seconds or damaged toilest that can not otherwise be sold. I called Kohler and after a 45 minute wait, I spoke to several rude people, Eric included. He seemed to brush off my concern that I have 6 new Kohler toilets, all of which do not work. He constnatly interrupted with how lucky I was and how much he was doing for me. I needed to shout over him in order to be heard, but even that did not work. He admitted that if I had only one or two defective toilets, he would not have replaced them but because I had 7, he decided to replace them. Obviously the replacements were defective.
Kohler does not care how much damage their products cause. It is most likely cheaper for them to replace (or not in some cases) the damaged product with an unsaleable product than to recall a product. Not only is the quality of the Kohler product extremely poor, the service department has much to learn about treatment of customers. I suppose they do not care how rude they are as once you learn how poor the quality of their product is, you will never be a repeat costomer anyway. This is a company that has much to learn about standing behind their product. As far as I know, Eric is still talking as he never seemed to have to draw a breath. Whatever I said fell on deaf ears so after many attempts to get a few words in, I hung up in frustration.
About $9,000 in damages and plumbing bills over the last 10 years; all out of our pocket. About a $15,000 claim on our insurance for the last flood.

All new Kohler and Sterling supplies were used. The new tub ensemble was inspected by the contractor prior to installing. All new porcelain tile flooring was installed. The bathroom was not used for one week after installation as there was a death in the family, and we were not home. Upon using the tub for two days, we noticed putty-like substance in three areas flaking off. The three areas discolored significantly.
We called the contractor who called the supply house, Allen Supply Company in Allentown, Pennsylvania. A Kohler representative was sent to inspect the tub. The Kohler representative said that it was a definite manufacturing defect. The representative said that it was covered up at the factory. The representative said that it would not be noticed by anyone until some dirt or soap and water got onto the spot. He said a replacement tub was his recommendation.
The problem is that Kohler camouflaged the defect so it would not be noticed until installed and used. Kohler will not pay the contractor to replace the tub which means, taking out the plumbing, tearing up the new tiles, cutting the drywall and moldings, etc. We shouldn't have to pay to have the contractor to replace the tub as it was not the contractor's fault, and it was not our fault. Had the defects not been camouflaged at the factory, the defects would have been noticed, and the defective tub obviously not installed. The tub goes in before the drywall and tile flooring. Kohler will send a replacement tub, but they will not pay to have the defective one taken out and all the supplies to put in the new one.
We spent thousands of dollars to have our bathroom redone, but we do not have money to pay to have all the work and supplies redone. Consequence is that since Kohler will not pay the contractor for time and materials to take out the defective tub and install the new one, we are left with a discolored, gouged out tub in a brand new bathroom. It would cost a lot of money to replace the tub. We shouldn't have to spend any money as it was admittedly Kohler damage at the factory and cover-up so the consumer would not see it until it was used.

The whole area rotted out and now we need to replace the floor, baseboard and part of the wall. We have built a home well worth over a million dollars. We wanted the best and added the Kohler Water Tile in the Master Bathroom shower. Since using this item means getting your head wet I did not use it but twice and the third time it fell on my husbands head. I contacted the company we purchased it from, George Morlan Plumbing in Portland OR. After spending $20,000 in that store I was given the run around and told we would first need to take the water tile out (plumber needed) and return it before it could be replaced. They wanted to see the product and make certain it was defective. I told them that was not going to happen in this lifetime.
I am an interior designer and not new to this way of dealing with suppliers. Instead I contacted Kohler and after several phone conversations they finally sent a replacement out to us. As of today, we have used it once to make certain it worked. When we came in from working in the yard we again found one of the 4 tiles sitting on the shower floor. This time at least, it did not land on my husbands head. No, our cats are smart but they did not pull out the tile. I will contact Kohler again tomorrow but expect very little if any help. The tiles are not really all they say and I find that it was not only a waste of time and money but a potential life hazard.

Over the past several years, I have purchased 2 Kohler bathroom sinks and 1 acrylic bathtub. When I had a bathroom sink installed in 2003 everything seemed OK. I had another bathroom sink and tub installed in April 2005 in another bathroom. In 2006 I noticed that a small scratch began to appear in the sink installed in 2003. At first I thought I might have dropped something on it. Very gradually the scratch grew, and I realized that it was not a result of anything I did. It got wider and longer until now it is extremely unsightly and a germ attractor. It was obvious that this was a factory defect that Kohler attempted to cover up by reglazing, knowing full well that it would begin to show after a couple of years or so. My second sink has a pinhead sized red blemish on the inside in a very obvious position.
When I called Kohler, they said it was the contractor's responsibility to notice it, and they would do nothing at this point. They also refused to address the problem with the first sink. How could a contractor note such a small defect when the item is installed, with all of the dirt and dust flying around? My acrylic tub developed several chips on the part that is stepped on. I believe the skid resistant surface was applied incorrectly. That problem is getting worse. Again, Kohler disclaimed any responsibility. All of these items were purchased from different retailers and came to me sealed in their containers or crates.
Kohler refuses to admit any responsibility and refused to deal with me, the consumer. This matter will continue to be addressed by me. If there is anything you can do, it would be appreciated.

We remodeled our kitchen a few months ago and bought all new appliances, granite counter tops, and a new (K-5898-4u-o) Brookfield white Kohler sink. About the third week after having the sink installed, I began to notice little rust, hairline marks just above the Kohler symbol--running up and down and one running across-- looking as if it was going to chip off. Then more started to appear at the other end of the sink, all in the center divider. I called Kohler and spoke with a Kohler customer care representative, Kathleen R. She assured me it was not a defective sink, but was most likely the granite company's fault if they hadn't installed it right; but they will replace it with no cost to me. (Wait a minute, why would they be so eager to replace it if it wasn't defective?) So, they sent me a replacement voucher to be taken back to where I purchased the sink (Pacific Sales.)
I called the granite company that installed the counter tops, and they assured me that they couldn't have damaged it by placing it on top of plywood and then placing the granite on top, since there is a gap between the two before sealing it with sealer. But they did tell me this is the fourth Kohler sink they have had to replace within a year, and they all had no luck with Kohler customer service. Kohler will give them a new sink but won't pay a cent to the cost of removing the defective one. The cost is all mine, and it says on their warranty that they aren't responsible for any removal of their product. So, I now have to pay for a cabinet man to come and cut the inside of my new cabinets so they can remove it from under the counter, remove the dishwasher, pay for a plumber to disconnect all the plumbing and then pay to have it all put back. This does not include what it's going to cost to have the granite company to remove the sink, which is going to take a total of about 3 days with all that has to be done--plumber, cabinet man, granite co. It's going to cost about $1000.00.
Shame on Kohler! They have a defective item, and they know it. I should mention... Kohler has discontinued the K-5898-4u-0 sink and replaced it with K-5942-5u-09. If anyone has remodeled a kitchen before, you know the expense and all the frustration and inconvenience for weeks at a time. Having to pay $1000.00 in addition isn't right. Shame on Kohler!

I bought one of Kohler's cast iron sinks from a local plumbing supply. The sink was marred by surface imperfections as well as color blotches in the enamel. Long story short, the sink was replaced countless times; each time the replacement sink was in worse shape than the previous sink. The countertop fabricator and contractor were both kept waiting as installation date after installation date was set--only to be moved back because the new sink that was delivered was worse than the one before. Kohler was of no help. Called customer service three times. The third time I found out the first two calls to them didn't even merit them filling out a complaint and forwarding to anyone in the company. I gave up as the customer service seemed useless. I even had contact with our local Kohler rep who was equally useless (the local plumbing supply and my own contractor even refused to have anything more to do with her).
Two months after they had my money, and on their 7th or 8th try, a sink was finally delivered that looked halfway decent. Here's the thing I'd like to get across to other consumers: If you're looking for a company that stands behind their product or who will work with you to keep you appraised of what's happening and why, then LOOK ELSEWHERE. Kohler will do nothing. They don't want to hear about problems and no one, I mean NO ONE, in the corporate hierarchy will ever respond to you. They prefer to bury their heads in the sand and twiddle thumbs or whatever else their doing up their in Kohler with their exploding toilets and other shenanigans that I'm finding out by searching these consumer sites. The corporate officers won't even write a letter to you to explain what's happening or to apologize.
After two months I finally got my sink...and about one month after that after reopening the BBB case, I did get an email that said they'd be getting a full explanation in the mail. Two weeks after that, I finally got an unsigned letter written on Kohler letterhead from someone in the Factory end. It was four paragraphs of about two or three sentences each, and all they said was they learned a lot by me bringing the problem to their attention and how closely my area representative worked with me. (She didn't.) But they had my money for over two months so I KNEW I'd get my sink eventually. But as for customer service: Forget it, there is none.

I bought a Kohler Clarity Cashmere sink I believe in late July or early August through a local company here in Kansas City (Dorfmann's Plumbing). I am putting in a new granite countertop and was getting a new sink and Kohler fixtures at the same time. The sink arrived sometime in September in preparation for the granite fabricator to prepare a template for my new countertop. At that time, we noticed a chip in the sink. The local plumbing shop took back the sink and had Kohler send out a new sink, which had to arrive by October 15, which was the day before installation of my new countertop. Kohler apparently sent out a new sink which arrived on the 15th, but this sink had blemishes resembling the buildup of color pigment on the surface finish.
Kohler was contacted. They even sent out a regional representative to my house because she was apparently disbelieving that there was trouble with their product (she claimed she never had a problem with their products before, something along the lines of "Kohler doesn't sell seconds" blah blah). Of course the fabricator was called and installation of my countertop was cancelled for the 16th and reset for the 22nd as the Kohler representative promised she would locate a sink, have it inspected prior to shipment and deliver it to Dorfmann's. The contractor arrived on Friday to finish preparing the area for installation on Monday the 22nd. When the sink arrived, this sink also had similar color blemishes in two of the corners.
Kohler wanted me to accept it because the blemishes weren't in a visible area if you stood directly in front of the sink (however, if you lean over and look straight down on the inside corners of one of the bowls, you could easily see the blemishes). In direct sunlight, which is where the sink sits in my kitchen, the blemishes were very obvious and bothersome to someone who hopes to have a beautiful countertop and hopefully, blemish-free sink. I was exasperated before this happened but I lost all hope for this company at this point. Of course, the representative of Kohler tried to minimize the problem but once again, after intervention by the local plumbing company, they again said they would locate a new sink and deliver it, but of course this would take time since supposedly there are no Kohler Clarity Cashmere sinks they could locate close by.
The next delivery was set for the morning of October 26 (today) and thus far, I have not had a call that they've (I've been told there were two sinks sent) arrived. Of course I've been without a sink at all since my countertop was ripped out on the 15th and I've basically had to eat out for every meal every day because I have no use of water in the kitchen nor the use of my dishwasher. This is too much for a person to be expected to take without seeking some sort of satisfaction. I am through dealing with the area Kohler representative. Her attempt at making the situation better consisted of her telling me she has the same sink in her home and giving me a used bottle of Kohler Cast Iron polish for the sink (I presume she gave me her bottle and kept the new one for herself).
I've had verbal apologies from Dorfmann's Plumbing, but they aren't the ones sending out blemished sinks. I've called Kohler to complain but all they've done is start folders on "my case," but even this has been unsatisfactory as the reps don't even keep accurate records of previous calls (the last one said the folder didn't have that I'd already been through three sinks), she thought I'd just had one sink with a chip. I am not confident that any of my complaints has reached anyone of significance at the corporate level. I don't believe they care and I think their practice is to make it so difficult to complain that the consumer will just walk away in disgust. I'm disgusted but unwilling to walk away.

We suspect that Kohler is sending out factory rejects to replace recalled toilets. On July 9, 2007, I spoke with Lucas to tell him that our model K-3466 toilet was making a very loud noise. Lucas informed me that the toilet had been recalled and, for the price of $150, plus tax, Kohler would ship me a replacement toilet. The new toilet arrived UPS but, when the plumber came out on July 19, he refused to install it because it had a huge crack at the bottom of the tank. The crack did not extend to the outside of the toilet but the plumber was sure that water would eventually leak from it.
Gary, at Kohler, informed me that they would send out another toilet but that I was out the expense of the plumber's visit and that I had to dispose of the reject. I asked to speak to a supervisor but got the same answers from Scott. The second replacement toilet arrived and the plumber, with an assistant, came to install it on July 27. Once again the toilet could not be installed. The plumber stated that the toilet looked used but, more importantly, the base was broken and there was a large hole in the bowl. Perhaps the damage occurred during shipping but proper packaging could have prevented that.
My call to Josh, at Kohler on July 27, was no more satisfactory than previous calls. I was once again told that Kohler was not responsible for the plumber's visit nor the disposal of the broken toilet. After protesting, I was transferred to Chris who is supposed to call me back on Monday to let me know if anything can be done. I will update this complaint next week after the next toilet arrives and to let you know if Chris contacts me with a resolution to the disposal of the toilet and plumber's bill. UPDATE Chris never called back so I again called Kohler.
They sent out a third toilet and--surprise--once again, it had a large crack in the tank. Since then I have called Kohler numerous times and was finally told that I would receive a letter allowing me to take one of the defective toilets to a local retailer for an exchange. The letter arrived on August 9 but it is for a toilet tank model number K-4645 and not the toilet model K-3466. A tank is not a toilet. I have pictures of two of the reject toilets if you would like to see them.

Further I have arthritis and sitting on the toilet, when not touching the ground can cause me pain.
As soon as we moved into the house and I realized the toilets were not standard I complained to Kohler. I spoke with two customer service representatives and they stated that unless there is a defect they will not replace the toilets. They refuse to address the issue that the fact that I cannot touch the floor is a product defect. They refuse to make any change on the product and have told me I have to pay for three new toilets. There were glasses everywhere including my bedroom. The door did not fall because the glass was in the tub as well as outside of the tub. It exploded. I called Kohler who made the doors and explained the situation.
I wanted to find out if there was a warranty since my doors were only 2 1/2 years old. There was and Kohler said that they would replace the door. I declined due to the fact that they could not guarantee that it would not break again. There is no warning on these doors when you purchase them. The Kohler representative said that it has happened before but not enough for the company to put a warning on the boxes. She told me that all tempered glass, like your car windows or a glass table could do the same thing.
Well, shattering is one thing but exploding is another. I have places on the tub, walls, and closet door that are now chipped from the force of the glass hitting them. That's dangerous. I had a 3-year warranty that we purchased separately and I will praise them on providing good service the first 3 years.
However, the bigger problem is that they chose the wrong company to manufacture their mowers (i.e., MTD). The transaxle is built by Peerless and has failed on me 3 times. Ive replaced the pinion gear all three times with it shearing the gear teeth after a few months of operation. Ive tried to make sure the clearances are correct but apparently they arent since it continues to fail. The engine has worked flawlessly and its unfortunate that the body/transaxle are not built with the same quality.
Sears has since changed their manufacturer on most of the riding mowers to Electrolux (Swedish based company) so I hope the quality has improved. I plan on buying a new mower in the next few months but Im looking for a little higher quality mower this time.
No physical damage. The economic impact of the poor quality mower would have been horrible if I had to return the mower each time it failed.

That one toilet has been a source of constant trouble from day one.
I've complained to Kohler and had plumbers out here time and time again. The customer service center keeps telling me to make minor adjustments-which the plumbers have done again and again--and the toilet is no better today than when I first moved in. I have to turn the water off by hand each time the toilet is used. I think the company failed to address our problem initially and when the problem was addressed it was treated as though it was a routine problem requiring nothing more than a small adjustment on the toilet.
This attitude persisted until it was out of warranty. I've spent lots of money on plumbers to make repairs that failed to correct the problem. I've asked for a Kohler service rep. to look at the toilet on numerous occassions and they tell me there isn't one available.
