As many others have indicated, customer service is terrible. Installation was done poorly, and had to be redone several times. Despite multiple appointments, several issues were left outstanding. Appointment times were not honored and cancelled at the last minute. I would avoid the company as the hassles and poor quality outweigh any price differential. Insult to injury, prices were very high.

After the construction of my new home I contacted Budget Blinds for a quote. Their representative was personable, thorough, and did a good job with his quotation. My problem is with the corporate organization's disingenuous marketing technique of bombarding me every day with a budget blind NOTIFICATION to my phone. This contact is not an email or a text. It is directly from an IP Address and impossible to stop. I requested the local dealer I'm working with to stop these messages and he tried unsuccessfully with the corporate group. For this reason, do not contact Budget Blinds unless you want a barage of irritating notifications daily.

The blinds are nice and the price is good. The customer service is HORRIBLE. They don’t return calls even when you’re trying to purchase and much less if you have a problem. They don’t show up when they say they will. They don’t understand that people cancel things to be home for the visit and then they do not show up or call to let anyone know what’s going on. They say they will call back but then they do not. This is not a one time issue. It has been a recurring issue which apparently they are too ridiculous to resolve. They either just don’t comprehend decent values that when you say you’re coming or calling back you’re supposed to do it? Or the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. I’ve been trying to get a repair on the blinds and all I’m getting is the runaround. I’m very disappointed and it is very unfortunate. They could do so much better.

This review is long overdue. I have owned these shutters for 7 months. I would not be surprised if Budget Blinds threaten me to remove this. Here is my story: My brother in South Texas had Budget Blinds, plantation shutters. He was pleased, and we liked them. We lived in the Dallas area, and used our local Budget Blinds. We chose a slightly different style, and we liked ours too. In my area, I was told sometimes they use a third-party vendor. Regardless, we liked them. The only negative was watching them assemble them on my driveway. However, I saw no marring or scars. Then we moved to Florida to a brand-new house, and called our local Budget Blinds.
In the consultation, I realized my windows were different from my last house. The windows in this house have wood frames, and my previous windows had sheetrock frames. I told the lady, “I need to be able to tilt my windows inwards for cleaning.” She said, “You won’t be able to do that.” I said, “Then you don’t have what I want.” She stammered some and stated, “Let me make a call.” Whatever was discussed, she had a solution. She threw around words such as “direct mount.” We also discussed hidden hinges. I did not recall having to make that decision in my previous house, and it did not make a difference to me, however, I chose hidden hinges, which I did not get.
I thought my issue was going to be my own fault, about not being able to fully open the blind/shutter to tilt the window inward for cleaning, because of having furniture or cabinets in the way. But that is not why I could not tilt my window inward. It is because of the thick light-blocking strips they installed on the sides. When the second blind was installed, I halted the installation to address my concerns. He went outside to make a private phone call to Budget Blinds. I let the installation continue. I thought I could buy some screens that could be installed and removed from the outside, but I was wrong (too late now.) After each blind was installed, he twisted my window (bottom half) in such a way that he could “prove” that it could be done, and took a photo! It is NOT easy to do what he did, especially without scratching things.
Installer said some of my windows were out-of-square. Well, someone from Budget Blinds did measure my windows beforehand. Also, Budget Blinds did not make me aware that one of the shutters in the garage, could not be fully opened because it hits the garage door rail. They could have suggested a shutter that opens from the middle.
They say it is my fault, that I signed the contract. In the contract, each shutter is 16 detailed lines long, and did not mean much to me, a lay person to shutters.I will never be able to fully clean the back of my windows. It bothers me enough that I often think of removing them but hesitant knowing I paid $7,635, and must purchase other blinds and drapes and deal with repairs. If/when I get new windows, these will go into the trash. They will probably go sooner. I do see mars on these, and a little warping here and there, where the slats look a little bowed. They say the material they use is according to your area (humidity?). I was told after installation, when I was discussing these things with the installer, they were not too pleased with this employee who did the consultation but afraid to fire her. She had a history of not writing things down.

They are very cheap. Even they don’t stay in their words. I purchased a house with already installed electric blinds. The battery need to replaced. I called them and they said, "We cover the service for lifetime". First they agree to do service but when they figure out that we are new homeowners they refused and really rude. Bad bad bad. Not recommending.

If I could give infinite stars I would. IMO Tracey's knowledge is the best in the business. Just an FYI we did get 2 other quotes as well, so glad we didn't go with the others. We ordered the blinds for our custom home and some were big a** blinds. The first time around they didn't work out they rippled really bad in the living room and kitchen so they got new blinds ordered and installed and the second set were still rippling in the living room and still didn't look good, so they were reordered for a third time but we decided to try a different material and they worked out just perfect. I love their business model of making things right and going out of their way to do it. I would highly recommend them if you are on the fence, do it, so totally worth it, you can't go wrong! Thank you Tracey, Ann and Jim.

On April 2, 2024, I met with Budget Blinds of Orangeburg, for a consultation. This business is in Goose Creek, SC. After taking measurements, the owner provided an estimate of $7,816.70 for the shades I chose. It was required that full payment be received for Budget Blinds to place the order, so regrettably, I wrote a check for the full amount rather than using a credit card. The average time for an order delivery was stated to be 8 to 10 weeks, which means shades should have been installed by July 1. It is now January 2025, 9 months after the shade purchase, and still no product.
Unfortunately, I have had to instigate each interaction with Budget Blinds, while never receiving a satisfactory response. After no update for over a month, in August of 2024, I issued a complaint with the SC Department of Consumer Affairs. Numerous attempts were made by the Department to elicit a response from them, but all calls and letters were ignored.
Due to the lack of response, the complaint was eventually closed and deemed “Unsatisfactory;” however, the complaint is now on record. I have currently had no communication with Budget Blinds since November 4, 2024, which prompted the same frustrating response offered each time, that they are working with the vendor to get the order completed/shipped. If the company is having vendor issues, I would expect to have been informed and given the option to choose to either cancel the order with a full refund or wait indefinitely to receive the order. This has not occurred. The inability of Budget Blinds of Orangeburg to complete orders in a reasonable timeframe is unacceptable and possibly fraudulent; to treat customers with so little regard is unethical.

We bought thousands worth of Hunter Douglas blinds from Budget Blinds Portland store in 2012. When the string started breaking and fabric separating this year, we spend another thousand dollars for re-string and 'other charges'. Now after 6 months, the strings start breaking again. This store is very un-professionally managed and does not entertain legitimate repair needs. In short, they are good when you buy blinds, but does not seem to entertain after sale service in a reasonable manner. We are now looking at alternate repair shops around for re-stringing (that too 6 months after we paid a lot of money to budget blinds to string it). Very bad customer experience.

Overpromised and underdelivered. Came out and did the quote. Told me he could have installed in 2 weeks. Received the invoice the next day and paid in full. Two weeks came and went. When I emailed asking for a status update. My order was scheduled to ship the next day. If there was a delay, I should have been notified. Day of the install my appointment time was 11:15 am. At 11:50 am I called to see if everything was still good. Was told per the email the time is give or take an hour and a half.
Thinking I missed that part I check my email. That statement was not there. So when Kirk arrived I let him know the email did not say that. He was rude and said, "Yes, it does and I am not going to argue with you." He started the work. Was in and out. No shoe covers, no tarp down in work area. He finished up and on the way out the door said, "If you have any problems give us a call." I later discovered stains on my new carpet by the window in my bedroom. Looked like it could have come from a ladder. I emailed letting them know. He responded that he did not use a ladder and I should have inspected before he left. So rude.

Well, when we bought $8k worth of shades for our new house in early 2020, we could not be happier. But my review is purely based upon the service since. One of the larger blinds’ mechanism stopped holding the blind in place and allowed it, only, to fully extend. Photos of the piece were emailed but they still wanted to charge $90 for them just to come look at it. I thought it would be days but now it has been months on back order with no idea of when it will get here. A couple weeks ago, after prompting, they said it had been shipped to them but still no ETA. Try to avoid any blind with plastic parts.

I did reconnect with the Budget Blinds and they had a tech come to my home the next day to diagnose the problem. A new blind motor was required and was ordered. The tech came back out an installed the new motor. The owner of Budget Blinds, South Austin kept me updated from start to finish and did not charge me for the repair. I am grateful that we reconnected and resolved this issue. I would recommend them and I do plan to use them again.

I would like to share my experience with Budget Blinds after 2.5 years of service. We met with our rep Deborah B. back in the Fall of 2021. She came out, demo’d some blinds for us and we made decisions based on her recommendations. We had 6-72” automatic blinds installed and 2-60” manual blinds installed. We spent over $4,000 to have this done. While the auto-blinds do not work 100% of the time due to wi-fi signal strength issues, we have managed to adapt. The app they set you up on is very antiquated and extremely challenging to program and/or change.
The reason for this review is how a consumer is treated “after the sale”. This is an area of extreme weakness for Budget Blinds (BB), at least in the Austin area. A little over a month ago, we began having an issue with one of our bedrooms' auto-blinds where it does not roll up. It is stuck in the 13% open/close position. It tries to go up and go down but stops and stays at 13%. I reached out to BB toll free number for some technical assistance - This does not exist. The toll free number sent me to the South Austin, TX franchisee, where I called and explained what was happening and needed some assistance.
I was asked to send an email to the owner, Shane C. with pictures and a description of the problem. I did this on June 10th, 2024 and even sent a video showing the issue. Shane replied to me on the June 11th asking me to describe the problem and send pictures and he proceeded to tell me that he would help me via email to resolve the issue and that if he could help, it would cost $195 to send someone out and diagnose the problem and it would be at least 2 weeks before anyone could come out. I was confused by his email because I had already sent him the pictures and video, which I replied to him stating such on June 11th. Shane replied on June 13th, “Thanks! I’ll look into this for you:)”. I had also supplied him our invoice at the time of purchase, per his request.
Today is June 26th and I never heard from him since. I was able to locate our sale reps contact information and reached out to Deborah B. on 6/18/24 and left her a voice message. Again, today is June 26th, and no response from her either. I am at a loss with BB and do not know where to turn. One of the most important parts of the sales process is the “after the sale” and BB has been a disappointment. Outside of this issue, the blinds are great. We love them, but as a company, BB does not seem to be too concerned about the after the sale. I am hoping somebody will read this and get back to me because there is no solution to remedy this issue. As a suggestion, I would do my due diligence on choosing a window covering company to work with. The blinds all do the same thing, which is cover windows, so there are many options out there. Good luck.

We contracted Budget Blinds March 16 to put in three blinds on our three windows in our newly renovated condominium. The balance was to be paid April 17th, Adam came and assured us they were the guys to handle the job. We waited the 6 weeks and the blinds arrived, 2 of the 3 were fine but in the kitchen they forgot to accommodate for a drawer that would run into the frame. The fix it team came to try to resolve it twice but only made the problem worse, then finally recognizing they weren't going to fix it after a month and ordered another window that fit inside the frame. June 15 the guys show up and installed the new window. They did a nice job on the window, now the drawer opens but left me to repaint the newly painted walls they drilled up that they hacked up. Sorry I find this unacceptable for a company to leave me with their clean up.

I bought 4 motorized blinds from Budget Blinds in 2021. They are beautiful, but unfortunately often break. I have to call my local franchise owner several times a year to come fix them. Sometimes it’s the motor, sometimes it’s a battery, sometimes it’s the solar panel that powers the battery - there’s is always something. At this point I get an anxiety every time I have to push the button to rise or lower them because I never know if they will work or not. The problem is that once the motorized blind is not working for whatever reason, you can not raise or lower it manually to match the others, it’s stuck in whatever position it stopped working until the repair guy from my local franchise is able to come. And often it takes a while because they are more interested in selling and installing new blinds than dealing with problems.

A year ago I wrote a five-star review for Budget Blinds Durham because my experience having new blinds installed was excellent. Now, a year later, I am reporting that my recent attempt to get support in obtaining a small replacement part for blinds purchased from the company a few years ago was not satisfactory. The response to my initial call two days ago was an email from the company with a request for information--purchase date, location of blind, description of problem, etc.--as well as a request for a video or photos of the problem. Had I been able to speak with a live person this information could have been communicated quickly. Communicating through email, however, is laborious and off putting.
A call by me to the sender of the email did little to facilitate a friendlier interchange. I described what had broken on the cord and was told that a service call would be $90. That cost was unacceptable to me, and I ended the call. Fortunately, I found what was needed for a repair, a roller shade bead chain connector, on Amazon. It will arrive today; it will probably take me 5 minutes to install. There was a better way for Budget Blinds to handle my issue. I will think twice about purchasing from them again.

On September 2nd I entered into an agreement with Mari **, sales representative for Sue and Trevor Pinto of Budget Blinds of Mid-Lower Manhattan, to have smart motorized shades installed in our apartment. During the sales process Mari stated Budget Blinds affiliate brand Inspired Shades would function exactly like the more expensive non-affiliated Lutron brand. Specifically, Mari had inspected our current Lutron set-up with a single hub hidden from sight and told me Inspired Shades would work exactly as the Lutron accessories in our apartment do. Based on this information I paid $2500 for the Inspired Shades.
At time of installation on September 28th the blinds did not work through a remote or app. The professional installers informed me they typically have issues with Inspired Shades and we should have purchased Lutron. The installers left the apartment with the blinds not working through the app and instead of providing one remote as promised at time of purchase, each blind needed its own remote next to the blind to function.
The installers came a second time on September 30th and suggested we place multiple receivers in plain sight around the apartment in an effort to get the blinds to work. I specified the receivers must be hidden but were willing to try it to see if it worked. The installer still could not manage to get all the blinds to work even with receivers in plain sight.
That same day I was told I could replace the Inspired Shades with Lutron, although I would only receive a $1995 credit towards the purchase vs the $2500 I had already paid. I offered to pay the difference between the $2500 I had already paid and the cost to fabricate new Lutron blinds. Mari declined and suggested the installers come a third time.
On December 7th the installers came to the apartment a third time. At this point the apartment had been rented so the installers were disturbing our renters in the process. The installers proceeded to place a hub in plain sight on the kitchen counter and put 2 signal repeaters in outlets next to the blinds. One of the outlets was a single plug high voltage outlet designed for our air conditioning. Our apartment was recently gut renovated with many available outlets, but this outlet was closest to the bedroom blind. The installers unplugged the air conditioning and placed a signal repeater in that outlet rendering our air conditioning unit useless. The installers did not set up a multi-channel remote in the process. Mari wrote later that day and claimed the shades "are all functioning properly".
I was sold a product that would function with a single remote or through a phone app with a hub hidden in the same place we have a hubs for our other smart home appliances. What was delivered was a product that does not work as advertised. In simple terms, I paid for a product I did not receive. Our apartment is less than 700 sq ft and all 3 windows are on the same wall. The desired location for the hub is less than 15ft from any one blind motor. Mari cited electronic interference as the reason the hub would not reach the blinds, even though none of our other smart home appliances have this issue.
I have tried to solve this by offering to pay for the difference in the Inspired Shades and Lutron. I have also dedicated significant time with Budget Blinds trying to get Inspired shades to work. As a last resort I tried to involve the corporate office on 12.8 and was promptly told they could not help. Bottom line, stay far away unless you are willing to risk the same treatment.

I purchased window blinds a few years ago. They DID NOT inform me that to replace the battery on the remote control would cost $250!!! One particular window is high up on the wall, I was ok with the manual string to pull them up. The lady insisted that the remote control was the way to go. One year later the battery is dead. The worst part is that when I phoned to ask if someone can come and replace the battery, it's high up and I need a latter, and I don't know what kind of battery it takes. That's when he told me it would cost $250. He referred be to another company that would cost only $150!
I asked if I could purchase the battery from them and install it myself, he said no. He wouldn't tell me what kind of battery it takes. He had not interest in my situation at all whatsoever! I ordered blinds from them last year. Waited 3 months for them to be delivered. The whole process took about 8 months. The valances were material and were not smooth. The designer said the company changed the design so I went with wooden ones instead. One blind had a hole in it. They were remote controlled and it didn't work on the first visit. Two more times the installer had to come out and work on the remote controls so the blinds would move and move correctly. The installer said on the third visit that two of the motors were defective. Two brand new motors defective? Was was the chance of that?
He came on the fourth time to say the company would not give him new motors and for him to call tech support for help. Seriously? They should have been sent without any problem. He did find a motor in their stockroom and the other came from the defective blind with the hole in it. After four visits it was finally correct for the most part. They still sometimes don't all move up or down at the same time like they are supposed to. I will never use them again and regret not going to Home Depot for blinds.
