    My monthly gym charges automatically go to one of my credit cards. The credit card company detected a broad security breach and issued me a new credit card with a new number (my account was unaffected by the breach and I had no evidence of it). It was a pain changing my handful of monthly direct charges. I didn't notify National Fitness soon enough within the billing cycle and a fee of $64.95 was charged to my card when I gave them the new number. They said they had incurred "return charge fees" from their bank and they would not give me credit for this fee. They also said I had waited too long to request a refund.

    So, if your credit card number changes and you call to give National Fitness your new card number, ask if they are going to charge you a hefty fee because they incurred return charge fees. (I don't know how expensive return charge fees are, but I doubt they are anywhere close to $64.95.) Ask what the fees are and volunteer to pay those instead of the inflated number I had to pay. When I provided my new credit card number, the person was very pleasant, but she didn't tell me I'd have extra fees to pay. She should have been honest and transparent.

    Awful. All they do is try to rip you off with the first chance they get. God forbid you make a mistake and forget to give them 30 day notice that you want to cancel that you are trapped in a new contract and they pull the money out of your account. And when you ask them what your options are to get out of the contract they basically tell you NONE with a smile on their faces. This is a company that has an awful business ethic. They trap you in a 3 year contract and then once you have no way out they turn from the nice sales people who convinced you to sign into jerks who could not care less if you come to their gym pissed off every day. Disgusting.

    The Morristown TN location and their manager - Chad is the worst of all!! One of his employees told me over the phone once that I did not have to sign anything else in order to freeze 3 months of training sessions (I was pregnant) and then he (CHAD) tells me that I needed that and that and that (doctors note). When I told him that his own employee confirmed to me over the phone that nothing else was needed from me, Chad told me with a smile on his face "Do you have any proof?" DO NOT SIGN! Go jog or whatever else but you don't need them, trust me!

    NFC is the worst gym I've ever experienced. The trainers don't bother to create a program just because you're paying them, they get something off the internet. The management sucks balls. Some guy named Steven told me I'd have to pay more if I wanted to change clothes there, if I wanted to swim, and if I wanted to learn how to lift a kettlebell.

    Signature Club messed up when we gave them a new billing card. Cost us $30 for their mistake. Club management agrees it was their fault... Billing dept does not care. Too BAD!!

    I realize it's my fault for getting locked into a contract BUT I feel conned. The guy told me I could cancel at any time for $195 but that's not the case. Also he said if I lost my job they would help me out with payments...also a lie. He said I could change my membership at any time. Well that was a lie too! I don't know where these people get off lying to sell a contract and putting people like me in a bind or how they sleep at night and I hope karma comes back for all of them one day. I haven't even had the membership 2 months and it's already about to go to collections because I lost my job.

    On top of that, they're charging me for classes that I don't want nor can I use because I work during all the class times except for the 9 pm ones and that doesn't work for me because I work early each morning. If they would just let me switch my membership to the student one that is only $20 a month I would be fine but they are absolutely refusing to help me in any way possible. Every time I call membership services they say there isn't anything they can do and I should call the gym manager and when I call the gym manager he says it's up to them.

    I have been a member of the Sevierville NFC for 12 years. I credit the center with helping me become a stronger, healthier and happier person. I understand the frustrations some reviewers have experienced but the contract we sign explains all the rules. Any contract should be thoroughly read and any questions cleared up prior to signing. I highly recommend NFC to anyone who wants to improve their health.

    I moved out of state in November, 2015. I notified National Fitness the first week of December 2015. At that time I was told I needed to provide them with a copy of my lease agreement. I received a confirmation that they knew I had moved and were waiting on documentation. I had not found an apartment yet and was staying with friends. They would only accept a lease as documentation. Soon after, I rented an apartment (Dec 11, 2015). I was not given a copy of my lease signed by the resident management office until 12/28.

    On the 28th, I provided them with documentation. I was assured that I would not be charged for January's fees, as I had clearly moved and given them the required documentation. On 12/30/15, I spoke to Rene who informed me that my lease was NOT adequate to cancel my membership. She claimed not to see a signature from a landlord on the lease. I referred her to the appropriate page. She claimed she did not receive that page. I resubmitted the lease that day. I called to make sure they received the 2nd submission. I also submitted a lease addendum and renters insurance, just in case.

    When I called back I was told my first submission was adequate. I guess Rene doesn't know how to open attachments, or doesn't want to do her job (cancel people's memberships when they provide the necessary documentation). Maybe it's the company's policy to make cancelling so difficult, have so many steps, and require the customer to have to call back, resubmit and check on the status. I was still charged for membership fees in January regardless of my lengthy efforts to cancel my membership. I reported them to my credit card as an unauthorized purchase because I'm pretty sure they are a shady business that takes advantage of people.

    I own a couple of gyms in Augusta, GA and National Fitness owes me thousands, and thousands of dollars. I had a very heated argument exchange with Sarah, a customer service rep. Gradually over the last year they have been slower and slower to deposit what is owed to us into our accounts. Some of our missing deposits go back a few months. I have always been told that the problem was with their processing company, but Sarah, their rep, spilled the beans and accidentally told me the real reason they have been slow to pay us. She went on to tell me how someone ran up a FRAUDULENT 500,000 DOLLAR BILL through this previously mentioned billing company.

    Aren't they supposed to be bonded and insured for things like this? They are in fact a billing company, right? You crooks are going to bankrupt my company! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT USING NATIONAL FITNESS AS YOUR BILLING COMPANY! They are using my money to pay for their bills. Isn't that theft? These people have the audacity to not only take their fee out of my money, but they keep our money too! Now I have than 700.00 between 2 business accounts. My overhead is over 10000.00 a month easily. They are not depositing my money into my account! I am essentially paying for a service I am not receiving, and now several families will not have income because of these frauds.

    Hundreds of people will not have a place to train martial arts, AND THE UNITED STATES KICKBOXING TEAM WILL NO LONGER HAVE THEIR TRAINING Center because of National Fitness. Half of the US kickboxing team trains at my gym. I hope they are really proud of the service they are giving their clients. They may be able to rip off and mislead small business owners like me and think they are getting away with it, but God does not forget.

    National Fitness is the accounting business that is affiliated with Gold's Gym in Morehead City, NC. In July of 2013 I was transferred with Sears Holdings from Midway Park, NC to Morehead City, NC. Due to the fact that the stores were only 35 miles apart the company would not move me, so I had to drive to the new locations each day. I visited the Gold's Gym there and signed up for 2 years and paid in full at the time of sign-up ($400+). After about 4 months I was unexpectedly transferred back to the area of Jacksonville, NC which is where I was living at the time anyway.

    I contacted National Fitness to see if I could work out a transfer of my membership to the Gold's Gym there. I explained the situation to National Fitness and they refused to work with me because I could not provide a change of address. I explained that I did not actually move, but my job was no longer in Morehead City, NC. National Fitness refused to transfer my membership and refused to refund any part of my membership as well. So I decided to just let it go, lose the $400 plus dollars and move on.

    Now over two years later National Fitness is trying to collect a debit of $106. They claim that I owe them. National Fitness informed me that even though my contract expired, they will still charge me month to month until I cancel membership, which I was not informed of my the Gold's Gym or National Fitness. National Fitness is literally the worst company I have ever had to deal with personally or professionally. I have spoken with 5 plus customer service associates over the years and to a person are extremely unprofessional, rude, and speak to you in a demeaning manner. I will NEVER spend another dime with any company affiliated with National Fitness and make sure other consumers hear my story and not taken advantage of as I have been. I dispute all charges affiliated with National Fitness.

    I was working out at my local gym under no contract paying month to month when all of a sudden without warning they closed the doors. Note on door said all accounts will be closed, that was in 2012. Now National Fitness shows up and said they own American Bodyworks' clients and I owe them money. I will never use any gym again.

    We joined Lady of America in Rockwall, TX and they were more than eager to take our money. We moved out of state where there were NO LOA located for 100's of miles. They said I could cancel once I could show proof of moving. My husband had already moved with no bills in my name. They emailed me a list of approved items to show proof. A month after I sent in a cable bill, they said it was not accepted without my address on it. I then emailed a check stub showing my address.

    Another month later, they accepted it for THAT DAY. They would not and did not tell me it would be cancelled the day they received the information. They charged me $178.00 cancellation fee and would NOT credit any small amount. In the meantime, LOA closed their location in Rockwall, TX. Poor customer service and less than poor company in general. This whole ordeal lasted almost 6 months and I ended up owing almost $400.00. If you sign with a health club, make sure it is not LOA or National Fitness!! !

    I wish I would've seen these complaints before. Getting sucked in, my husband and I had to move for job relocation and National Fitness will not cancel our membership. We keep getting money drawn from our account. We did a stop payment and they still managed to get money out, we sent in 2 proofs that they asked for! A class action lawsuit needs to start!

    Enrolled there because my son that was living with me wanted to enroll in that club with me and I was living in TN. Now I move to Fl wanted to cancel the personal trainer and membership and they are telling me that I can't cancel the trainer neither the membership. When I enrolled in TN the person who enrolled us told us that we can cancel whenever we want. Paying 195.00 for penalty which was a big lie. You can't cancel neither trainer neither membership and now they want me to pay or they will send me to a collection agency and a lawyer.

    I have been a member of a gym that contracts for this company 2 times for over 3 years total. Due to a recent fraud alert on my credit card, the card was re-issued and my gym payment did not process. I had never heard the name "National Fitness" and no idea that National Fitness was the financial collection company behind my gym, so assumed their phone calls were solicitation. When I finally figured out what had happened they charged me extra, significant fees... etc, etc. I contacted my local gym and the account manager was able to help me no problem.

    Also during this call, I confirmed that my membership was due to expire in one month - should be no problem! WRONG. Membership "auto-renewed" - and now with extra fees and being phone stalked again by this company, they say I owe $75.93!! They were so rude and unhelpful over the phone, honestly it's borderline bullying since their representative told me repeatedly I would be turned over to collections and this would hurt my credit! I have NEVER had a delinquent account! They are predatory to collect fees, yet where was my courtesy reminder that this "auto-renew" were to take place!??? NOWHERE! But the agent was all too quick to remind me that "I did sign this" - 18 months ago! Ugh. BEWARE of joining any gym or company whatsoever that partners with this company - they are rude, condescending and completely unconcerned with the consumer, only $$$.

    I had signed a 2-year contract and fortunately for me, I received a promotion from employer. I had to move and was required to provide documents showing new address. My lease included utilities so no electric bill, etc. I had to wait for a bank statement to be printed to show new address. I patiently waited and paid 1 month although I couldn't use the gym. When I got a statement with new address, I used online feature to submit cancellation request. It took National Fitness 10 days to process the request which ended 1 day into the new month. The company insisted on charging me the full month since it took THEM 10 days to process. I declined to pay the extra month and they tagged on 180 in fees. Worst experience in my life. These companies should be reasonable, I can only hope they go bankrupt.

    Signed my daughter up for membership with a gym this group manages. Started the cancellation process in July and STILL being charged the monthly fee even though my daughter moved to Portland where they have confirmed they have no facility for her to use. She is currently a student so she has none of the ridiculously "required" paperwork. I provided copies of bank statements, credit card, etc. as requested showing her new address. Now they are saying we have to provide a letter signed by an attorney to cancel. Might I also add I jumped through their hoops to get a notarized "affidavit of move" from the bank but that was not good enough. Everything they require cost more money to obtain than it is worth! I suggested to one of the supervisors I spoke to that he leave the company as they are a bunch of crooks. He did not disagree. I certainly hope he acted on the advice! The only thing they do well is take your money!

    I had lost my bank card and had received a new one. I was paying my bill at the gym one of the representatives copy my information into the system and started making monthly withdrawals from my account. Another innocent when I relocated to a different state and requested to cancel my gym membership. It have been over six months and the company is continuously deducting my bank account.

    My son broke his ankle in February 2014 which required surgery and a three month recovery period. He was living and working in TN and joined the National Fitness Center to strengthen his leg and ankle. He signed a contract without reading it. A gym membership seemed to be a great idea until he moved back to KY due to a lack of work. That is when he discovered he had signed a two year contract that was close to impossible to cancel. He wrote a letter in October and of course was informed he needed a copy of his driver's license in KY, a bill of some kind in his name such as a cell phone, credit card, etc., a current pay stub with name and new address, and a cancellation fee of $195.00.

    He has studied for a real estate license and has worked to support himself but has no official check stub, cell phone or credit card bill. They have continued to take money from his account. He is attempting to cancel the membership again and we will see what happens. Yes, it is a scam. Not your local YMCA. I would not recommend this gym to anyone and hope the news spreads and National Fitness Center is forced to change policy and/or file bankruptcy.

    NEVER sign up with them. They make it impossible to quit and then take you to court for what you 'owe' even though you never set your foot inside and wrote to the company and tried to quit over and over again. Now they are garnishing wages! Again... NEVER join this gym. There are so many more honest, better gyms out there!!

    I have been a member of Shapes Total Fitness for over 7 years, but once they joined National fitness I have been a victim of their fraudulent business practices and enough is enough. At every renewal in the past, I was provided with an Option to renew. Now I'm being advised that at the end of my 2 year contract back in December 2014 all contracts are automatically renewed and there is not an option to NOT do so. I have advised them of cancellation back in January but their online system does not complete the request and every representative within customer service and billing departments give me the same scripted response, "I'm sorry but we have to honor the ONE contract that stipulates automatic renewal," despite the fact that this was not stipulated and at initiation of the contract this was discussed.

    The confusing part is if they are billing me for only 2 months the billing should be at 23 per month, so where did 131.00 come from. No one could answer that for me. At the 3rd phone call I was advised that they will continue to bill me until the cancellation is processed which usually takes 60 days. I am fed up and disgusted and based on the previous reviews this is a common practice for this organization.

    This is the worst company to deal with. Never ever sign anything with them. They don't allow you to cancel and when they do, they over charge you $70 minimum, and you can't refuse to pay because then they will ruin your credit. When you explain that you went through all the paper work to cancel, they are still withdrawing $$ because it take 60 days to process. This company is such a rip off and they will screw you and can. I did everything by the book, and still get charged. If you sign anything, your contract automatically renews. For example, if you sign a cancellation form on their website 2 MONTH before YOUR contract year is over, it is now voided and you will be charged. You need to sign within the 2 months of the end of your contract.

    DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!! Do not attend any gym that deals with this company. Although the gym may be worth it, this financial company is only money sucking scums! Worse company that you deal with. Hopefully gym will catch on as well and this company will go bankrupt and lose all business, solely due to their ways.

    I was a member of National Fitness Center for about a year and then I moved away due to quitting my job, and relocating to another city. I contacted NFC about cancellation of my membership and they told me that I needed proof of relocation, proof of major bills that came to my new address in my name, a copy of a pay stub from my new job, amongst other personal materials. I told them that I could not provide them with a copy of a pay stub from a new job because I was no longer employed (which was the reason I was relocating to begin with). They told me that there was nothing that they could do, and they would have to keep charging me the monthly fee, even though I was not going to be living in the city of Knoxville anymore. They told me the only way I could get out of my contract was to prove that I was in a financial hardship, or if I was a full time student.

    Thank the heavens I am in school full time or I would have never gotten out of that horrible contract. I also just procured employment so I gave them a copy of my offer letter as well. They are the most horrible company I have ever dealt with. I do not understand how they are still in business when they so blatantly ripoff people. How can they expect someone to pay a gym membership with no job? It was beyond me. They continued to accrue charges monthly, and I had to pay $850 (the monthly dues plus the $200 cancellation fee) to finally cancel my contract with them. The only upside to being a part of this membership was learning to always read the fine print and to read reviews before signing on the dotted line! They are crooks and should be sued and put out of business!

    I joined a local gym associated with national fitness. The gym closed and they transferred my membership to another gym farther from my house and work. They did not notify me of any changes and we're still taking money out of my account. I asked for a way out because I don't like the new gym. They said there was no way out. Nothing to do to help me other than pay.

    I closed my debit card so they couldn't take any more money until I figured it out. Debt collectors started contacting me for the money when I became three months late on payments for their gym that had closed. The debt collectors would call multiple times a week. They would email me along with sending letters in the mail. Pretty harassing if you ask me.

    Still with no help and many rude comments from the corporate office I got a prepaid Visa card and paid them the three months I owe them plus next month in advance and mailed them a letter 30 days in advance stating that I did not wish to be associated with them anymore, no longer a member of their terrible company, no longer responsible for any future payments and I did not wish to transfer to the new gym.

    Hopefully this will resolve the problem because the front page of my signed contract (the only page they gave me of the two pages) says that if I want out I write a 30 day advance letter explaining why I want out and I'm out. So let's pray this works and I'm begging all of you to not join a gym associated with national fitness until they completely renovate their staff, rules, contract and everything under their name.

    I have tried to stop the "month-to month" draft on my account. I have a copy of the letter submitted to National Fitness center, using their online cancellation form. They continue to draft my account, and the company now owes me for 2 months drafts and charges. I guess I will have to hire a lawyer to get rid of this petty little company.

    I was a loyal customer for 6-7 years, when they messed up my credit card info for the 3rd time and they called to get it, I just said to cancel. Thought all was good. For months they called and threatened to send me to collections. I repeatedly told them I canceled. Then I was informed I needed to email a cancellation in. So I did stating I canceled 90 days ago and they continue to call and threaten me. This is a sad excuse of a company if this is how they treat their loyal customers. Sad.

    Lived in Pensacola for awhile and decided to join a gym to work out. I told them I could have to move in a few months so I didn't want to sign up for a year membership. The guy told me all I had to do was type up a letter saying I was moving more than 200 miles away and they would cancel my membership. I found out I was transferring to Millington, TN which is way over the 200 miles the guy stated. I typed a letter up and stopped by the center and handed it to the guy. He read it and stated he would take care of it. He did state I might have to pay the following month payment and that was fine with me. Now I have a full year of payment on my credit report. Google this fitness center and read they have done this before. So beware of deceptive tactics to get you to sign on the dotted line.

    I am very disappointed in National Fitness Center. I joined last summer and lived in Knoxville. About two months later I moved back to Harriman. I called my account rep and requested info about cancellation. She said that she would research it. I asked how long this would take and she advised about two to three days. Approximately 3 weeks had gone by and I had not heard anything from her. I then called to see what was going on. She said that she was going to email me confirmation that my address did meet the criteria for cancellation. I told her that I had enjoyed the Knoxville club but since I typically don't go to Knoxville more than once per week for a meeting that it wasn't convenient. However Oak Ridge was quite a bit closer and I could possibly work out there a few times a week. I then advised that I had the upgraded membership with private locker rooms, showers, hot tubs, and relaxation areas. I paid quite a bit for those perks. I asked her if Oak ridge had them. She advised that it did not and we may be able to take that fee off since it wasn't applicable anywhere but the signature club. She advised that she would look into it. I told her that I wasn't going to be using the club until I heard from her and hadn't for two months.

    She then advised me that she would stop the billing and if we couldn't work out the Oak Ridge location then I could still always pay my fee, the back membership (1 month I believe) that was due, provide my documents and cancel. I agreed that I would let her check on that. Approximately 3 weeks had gone by and I had no calls or emails from them. I then called to check the status and was advised by someone other than her that management was looking into it and she would leave a note on the account for the account rep to get in touch with me. Another month goes by and nothing. I called in to the central office again in October and nothing again. I advised that I was supposed to get a return call and wanted to cancel my membership and forego any other arrangement. She advised that she couldn't speak on the matter, I would need to talk to the rep that handled my account. I advised her that I did receive the cancellation packet and would just pay the fees, send in the requested documentation of living arrangements and we could part ways.

    Less than a week later I received a notice that my account was past DUE nearly $500.00. How could this be? I understand that I didn't pay for a month and did legitimately owe it, and I would owe a cancellation fee and would gladly pay both to fulfill my contractual obligation.She advised the rep would have to return my call much to my dislike. I called the central office one last time. They advised me that they never sent the email that my account was available for cancellation, "uh'um... I have the email ma'am." She then put me on hold for about five minutes then stated that they had sent the email but that was before they realized that I worked in Oak Ridge. I advised that I did not work in Oak Ridge, I am an independent contractor and lived closer to Oak Ridge than Knoxville, I HAVE NEVER WORKED IN OAK RIDGE!!! The conversation became very heated as I was obviously being lied to and things that I said were being manipulated. SO basically everything that was told me was a misrepresentation based on known facts.

    Did she at least keep her word and act in good faith about checking on discounting the perks to a normal price in Oak Ridge? Doubt it, she never got back with me, ever... Did they send me a cancellation email?Yes I have it... Now I haven't worked out there in almost 6 months, apparently owe them 750$ as of December and can't even cancel a contract that they emailed me confirmation that I could cancel three months ago. I'm not an attorney nor am I giving legal advice. That being said, Googled the definition for fraud. Here is what i got: "wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain." Fits like a glove for these people. I have turned this over to my family attorney, filed a complaint with the BB and will be filing with the State Attorney General and the CFPB. ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!!!

    I will never do a gym contract again. They pushed me to sign it and would not allow me to read it. I guess I should have turned right then. However, I signed it, and agreed to pay X amount each month. After a while, random fees applied. Would not tell me what they were, or why I was paying them. Then my monthly payment went up. Wouldn't explain why either. Then I was in a car accident and hurt my back. I could no longer use the gym. They told me it didn't matter, I still had to pay. By now, the monthly payments went up about $20. I couldn't afford that. It's not what I agreed to, and with my back I could not. Now it's in collections. $2000.00 WAY beyond ridiculous. I tried calling to settle my debt, and all they do is argue. They want the full amount. They don't care. Heed my warning: DON'T GO TO NATIONAL FITNESS. In fact, just don't do a gym contract, period.

    I WAS member of a gym in Charlotte, NC that is associated with National Fitness. I had a TERRIBLE time with them when choosing to have a trainer, but today's experience far surpassed that. I have been getting calls from National Fitness for a little over a month in regards to my membership account. I signed up for my membership in June 2011 and it was explained that I'd signed up for a 2 year contract. That is what the representative that signed up explained. My membership ended in Sept. 2013, after two painful years of paying for a membership I didn't really use, but I thought I was done with them. I even called the gym and told them I was DONE! Well, when National Fitness called me, I assumed they were trying to get me to come back to the gym and sign up for a trainer. Since I finished the contract I in no way thought I would still OWE anything. Well, there is this fee that I am supposed to pay every year to be a "lifetime member" WHAT?!?! I now live in a different state, even have a different last name than they have on file.

    Well, today JUAN (which I had to ask for his name, he never actually introduced himself to me) informed me that I owed $69 because of the lifetime fee, plus a debt collection fee, plus the fee for a bounced payment. Juan even stated that "it's common sense to call them back when they called about my account." Why would I? They were addressing my old last name about a gym I left over a year ago. Common sense would not making a rude statement like that to someone. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that they didn't speak to customers. When I asked who to speak to supervisor to complain about his offensive comment, he told me I'd have to WRITE the company.

    NATIONAL FITNESS IS A WASTE! When I tried to explain that I'd pay whatever fee I guess I was SUPPOSED to pay, he told me he couldn't take off the additional $30 of fees they'd tacked on. I'm offering to pay and cancel completely, but he couldn't work with me? He only offered to take $15 off that price and AGAIN would not let me speak to a supervisor. When I asked him who I originally signed my contract with, since this was never explained to me, he couldn't give me that information either. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

    I had a membership with Women's Wellness and Fitness. They are a local gym run by national fitness. I suffered a knee injury and before I got a chance to go cancel my membership, I had to cancel my credit card because the number was stolen. The automatic withdrawal happened shortly after that and instead of contacting me and asking for a change of payment I was assaulted by debt collectors. So I went through the annoying process of writing a letter to cancel my membership. All of the staff I talked to were extremely rude. Specifically a woman named Angela found it necessary to be very snarky on the phone. When I called to confirm my cancellation she told me, "Oh yes you are finished here." I reiterated that my membership was indeed cancelled and she raised her voice and said, "It's cancelled and you are finished with us. Your outstanding balance is $94.90. Goodbye." There was no reason to be so rude, but I will never be using a gym that goes through national fitness ever again.
