I made a selection error on my loan app and wanted to correct it within an hour. They refused the request and told me my loan had already been approved and it was impossible. The request was to go without the origination fee. They said it could not be changed and the loan could not be stopped. Said it was already in funding although it clearly said it would be funded in 2- 3 business days. This was on a Saturday morning at 8 am.

I applied with Sofi and before I did I ask them about the income part. Can I used everyone income that live in the household or just mine. I was told everyone would do. I ask him that before I would complete the application due to the fact that just mine alone will not work but credit score it's great. I didn't want my credit score to be ding or go through the whole process of the application with just my income. He reinsure me that I can use everyone. So I did and they decline me because unable to approve my income. But yet if I had a cosigner then they would look at it so before I can do that they send me a letter saying they regret the they was unable to approve me. So a hard hit, waste my time, score went down 3 points and no loan. All they can said sorry they told me everyone income.

I wish I would have looked at these reviews before I decided to go with them for a personal loan. The application process was simple and getting the money was fast, however my first payment has been a nightmare. If you don't want auto pay through them, continuously check to make sure SoFi doesn't set it up for you. I set up auto pay through my own bank, making weekly payments so when the first payment was due, it would already have been paid. They continued to send me emails advertising that I would get a .5% decrease on my percentage rate for my loan if I set up auto pay with them. I ignored the emails because I was already making my weekly payments. A few days before the first due date (which at this time, my payment amount was already paid) they sent me a notice indicating they were going to take out the full payment amount. I went out to my account and magically my auto pay had been set up!!!
I deleted everything and turned off autopay. The next day they still withdrew the money!!!! Now because they withdrew the payment and set up the autopay themselves, I am getting NSF fees from my bank. It's been 11 days since I called them and told them to reverse the payment. Today when I called, they said the reversal is still under review!!! I also have incurred $385 in NSF fees. I told them that I wanted that refunded as well and they said they could file a complaint for me!!! NEVER, NEVER working with this company again!!

I am trying to pay my bill. I had filed for Chapter 13 and then withdrew it. It has been at least 4 months. I have sent documentation several times to them in Salt Lake City. They always claim it was not received even though I sent certified mail. They continually refuse to acknowledge receipt of anything. I am going to my local media and filing a complaint with the attorney General office and anywhere else I can.

Do not trust this bank. I opened an account 2 months ago. Shortly after added my wife as a joint holder. The next day there was an unauthorized transaction. Then 2 more. The 4th transaction was an ACH transfer to a bank we do not know. They refunded the money, but the next day or 2 the same ACH transfer happened again. Now they are refusing to refund the money. We've been lied to several times when speaking to them. Also, I hate the fact that they outsource their calls to the Philippines. We have had nothing but a horrible experience with this bank. DON'T AFFILIATE YOURSELVES WITH THEM.

This bank is terrible. It started a few years ago when I was going on vacation to Colorado and wanted to give them a heads up so they would not cancel my card. Well, because I was at work and did not know EXACTLY when my flight was, nor the last 3 transactions I made, they reported it to the fraud department. It took weeks to unravel that mess.
I finally decide to give this bank another try and of course my accounts are locked or otherwise inaccessible. I just moved to this state and was in the process of getting my license transferred so I had to wait until I got that because they needed pictures of it. Get through all the hoops and ask to have them send me a credit card and unlock that account. Here is where I am dumbfounded. Because I used to have a card, that they locked on me because I tried to tell them I was travelling, to AVOID getting my card locked, and never tried to use the bank again due to that fiasco, I am not eligible to apply for another card at this bank. 830 credit score, $100k income, and the only reason I cannot get a card with this bank is because I did not use my card for 12 months. What a joke.

Everything is fine until you need assistance, then they hang you out to dry. I had essentially no problems with my SoFi loan until my company put my department on a "temporary freeze" essentially reducing my income to $0 for an unknown amount of time. So I reached out to SoFi support to see if there was any assistance available to me. I have made a few payments late here and there but my account is far from delinquent. After filling out a questionnaire I was connected to an agent who asked...literally the same exact questions as the questionnaire? Redundancy aside, SoFi took note of my situation and plainly said "Nope." Nothing. No options to help me out of a really, really tough spot even though I was being as communicative and transparent about my situation as possible.
I cannot wait until my loan is paid off so I can sever ties with SoFi for good. I was and still am baffled. I would have heavily appreciated a one-time offer of like $20 off or maybe 'hey we can push your due date back 1 day.' That would have shown SOME effort to assist a customer going through hardship. SoFi is apparently a callous, soulless, misleading company. I have heard so many things about the assistance they can provide but as far as my own experience goes that loyal customer assistance is flat out lies. Screw you SoFi. I want my 47 minutes back with interest.

I received a debit card from this company/bank and I linked it with my regular bank and the very next day I received a strange email I did not understand so I went into my account online and noticed a amount of $500 and a amount of $1000 had magically switched from my regular bank into a SoFi checking account and I did not do that!!! $500 had already been sent to some email address that I did not recognize and I did not make that transaction of taking money out of my account or sending it to anybody. I was able to transfer back the $1000 into my regular bank but it was too late for the $500 and this was August 9, 2024 this day. I’m still fighting to get my 500 back.
I feel like it was stolen from me from whoever made the transaction and took the money and whoever was able to take money out of my bank and put it into the SoFi account from where it was taken. Surely there’s a way to track some of this to at least know that I did not do any of it and maybe find out who did?! I feel like I am getting the runaround and I call every few days and I keep sending emails because I will never forget this or stop trying to get my money back. Obtained a loan in 07/2022 with SoFi with a co-borrower. At the time, the interest rate was 12.79%. Was told I could always refinance the loan at a later date to reduce the interest rate. I have called twice in the last year to do that, and was told that since there is a co-borrower, this loan is ineligible to ever be refinanced with Sofi. Then I explained that I would have a reduction in income and that I need better repayment options. After an "eligibility check" I was unqualified for any kind of forbearance or assistance with the monthly payments of this loan, even though I told them I was unable to pay the current monthly payment and I was trying to get ahead of any issues.
I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do, especially since my loan was current. I was misled into getting this loan, to consolidate other debts, and told I could refinance, when that was not the case at all. I have reviewed my loan documents and there is NO language present regarding ineligibility of the loan to be refinanced with a co-borrower.

I am very disappointed with SoFi, when I had 2 unauthorized charges, at first they wouldn't credit my account. I had to appeal it twice and then they would only give me the lesser charge of $9.98 and not the charge of $159.87. It was made at a company out of state that I've never done business with. I cooperated and gave them any and all information on this matter and asked to see the results of their investigation, which didn't prove to me that I made these charges.
Now, I had make a payment to a credit card account on 7/31/2024 and found out that they rejected the payment when there was money in my account. I was notified by the credit card company that SoFi returned the payment due to insufficient funds, which makes no sense at all. I had money in my account and went to pay my bills on that date and knew for a fact that I had money in my account as I had just been paid. I don't know what's going on with SoFi, but they are not treating their clients fairly and I am very unhappy with them. Long story short. I went to SoFi many years ago to consolidate my student loans. I was denied, no problem. I still don't understand why I was denied at that time, but I was and I moved on. I recently came back to SoFi to open a checking and savings account to use as my main accounts. Well, when I got there I found a fraudulent account setup that was using my SSN. Great. I found that out by applying for the accounts and getting denied. Who gets denied for a free checking/savings account, right?
Anyways, weeks of chatting and back and forth and finally they "disabled" the fraudulent account. So I applied for the checking/savings again, but lo and behold, I was denied again. No explanation other than they said Experian determines the approval. I have an 800+ credit score with all 3 major credit monitoring companies, and I make pretty decent money. Just wanted to share my experience here that wasn't resolved and I've given up on SoFi as a business I would use. Yesterday, they took my $900 payment and won't increase the available credit for 9 days. This being 3 days before Christmas I called them up to ask what was going on. I made a payment weeks ago that is still "Pending." I cannot make another payment while there is one pending. Neither the robots or the support persons can fix the problem. I've been hung up on twice while on hold. Credit card balance is a high impact factor on credit scores. This software defect is affecting my credit score. In a few more weeks I'll be paying interest on this balance that I can't pay down do to no fault of my own. Unlike other financial institutions (every other one that I've worked with), with SoFi you cannot download your transactions for use in accounting software. The website is slow. The App is slow.
Reward points can only be redeemed via the App. If you'd like to use them to purchase Stocks, the stocks that you'd like to purchase have a high chance of not being available to select. I don't know what the reason is but I could not even select SoFi's own stock to redeem points into. The next time I was able to... it's just random which I assume to be more software bugs. There are other bugs with points redemption that are likely giving out twice what was intended in some circumstances. I'd like to report the bug but support is VERY limited. The hold music is distorted due to it being turned up to 11 and then amplified again by the phone system. If the hold music goes away, it will hang up on you after a minute or so. Get used to this happening. You'll never make it to the next level support... if that even exists. I'm now resorting to public humiliation to get support. Having no physical card, I tried getting the number to help complete these transactions but no one at SoFi will provide me the debit card number. Unbelievably to top it off, SoFi refuses to expedite a card so you will wait 10 BUSINESS DAYS to do any of the above. Not to leave out that any transfers from this account to an external account will take at minimum 2-3 business days. This seems like an attempt to sabotage themselves as a reliable bank. I would not recommend contacting support immediately with a problem until you move your money out of the account because otherwise it's held hostage and you can be responsible for the rest.

*SoFi-Fails Summary version - Affiliate links make people a lot of money to recommend SoFi - BUT SoFi seems extremely risky to trust with your money. SoFi's business & support practices were so broken they refused to take my millions of dollars due to flaws with THEIR processes. If SoFi processes are so bad they can't manage to take my money, what happens when their systems and processes don't work trying to manage or move my money out?
*Long version - Intro - I'm a software developer getting older and wanted to get my retirement and financial institution situation cleaned up. Between my spouse and I we have accounts with Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, Merrill Lynch, Janus Henderson, USAA, and more. Being someone immersed in Development & IT none of these other companies' platforms impressed me. They were clunky, fragmented, and so when I saw SoFi's vision about trying to have a modern platform, with a comprehensive portfolio of financial services to INCLUDE banking/checking/bill pay, that actually paid interest??? I'm all in, let's do the bank account, invest account, credit card, see what they quote for insurance, setup SoFi Relay the whole deal.
*Chapter 2 - I set up the SoFi relay service and it worked pretty well. I linked in almost all my accounts and credit cards and liked what I saw for features. There's my credit score(812), 3.5 million in assets. All linked in, nice. *Chapter 3 SHTF Time - Bank account time - Name, address, DOB, SS# - apply... Denied. Ok no big deal. I've had this happen with other financial institutions online. Let me call support. Robot support... Great, enter my SS#... And 'your application has been denied' hang up... Not even a person. I go online scraping through their support section... What to do if you're denied. Nothing.
What more reputable banks do at this point is tell you why you're denied (always identity verification) and give you a way to verify your identity. Other non-fail banks did this by:1.) Allowing me to upload my passport, license, SS# card, bank statements, birth certificate, etc. to a secure upload space they hosted, or
2.) Less tech companies gave me a paper form to have filled out at my local bank via the 'Medallion Signature Guarantee' process where my local bank Manager will look at all the forms of identification requested and say, yes this person in front of me is who they say they are and put an official stamp on the documentation to postal mail.
*Ok I'm stonewalled, just for the moment right? They can't be this terrible to have no way to open an account. Time is money here, my wife fills out the bank application who has the same credit score, address, all shared finances for 22 years - While we sort out whatever the SoFi's system issue is with my info. Approved - Bank account opened in her name. *Lies, lies & dead-end - So my wife (retired - thank goodness she was able to waste hours of time here...) is now a customer with a bank account. Ok, I changed my direct deposit info to the account... done. My spouse calls support and gets routed to a PERSON (non-native English speaker). How can we resolve the deny? Support person (reads things on website we can see already) and ultimately - can't help, good bye, go away.
*Chapter 4 - 3 weeks later - $6000 in direct deposits in the account now, and 5 support people later. Very consistently support has told us, there is no way to escalate or resolve, and some of them straight up lied to us any way they could to get us to hang up. I so wanted to love SoFi and consolidate all my mess of finances to them. I'm thankful I didn't move millions over now knowing if their systems fail or have issues, too bad, you're just stuck. *Bonus Fail - During the timeline I also tried opening an Invest account with them...they failed to ACH transfer $ from the same bank/account my wife used to open the SoFi bank account after 15 days, same error icon, and no communications or path to resolve whatever the problem is with THEIR system yet again. At least they're consistent right? --Wish me luck getting my money out now!

I called in to change my payment due date from the 5th to the 24th. Easy enough right? The customer service rep changed the due date. And then told me to turn off auto pay for my next payment due on the 5th. And then to turn it back on after passing the 5th. It would then come out on the 24th. So that's what I did. The 5th passes. I go to turn auto pay back on to see that my account is considered delinquent. And that I could not turn auto pay back on. So I call customer service. HERE is where things go real south. If your account is considered delinquent you get sent straight to collections no matter what. I've never been treated so badly. I explained to them what happened.
They did not care. They cared about 1 thing. That was to get my payment... I asked to talk to a manager, or customer service. Or quite frankly ANYONE except for collections. And I was refused. They clearly did not care about me. They just wanted a payment and it's painfully obvious they have been trained to aggressively pursue a payment no matter what. So I made my supposed delinquent payment. And THEN asked to speak with another department. They told me it could take up to 5 days for the payment to go through. And until then I would be redirected to collections and could not talk to anyone else. That is actually insane... I would recommend staying far away from this company. When I told the collections agent that I was not satisfied. They began their end-of-call speil. "Thanks for calling Sofi and have a nice day etc..." They were the most aggressively rude people I have ever spoken with. I am beyond disappointed.

- SoFi Credit Card pays 2% cash back on all transactions. There's a promo rate of 3% for the first year (or $12k spent, whichever comes first) if you have direct deposit to SoFi Banking.
Cons:
- For some reason my credit card application was duplicated - I received TWO cards, but this crashed the SoFi app/website so neither card shows up on my account. I can't view transactions or manage the card. Customer Service wasted a week telling me to just install the latest version of the app. Finally a rep cancelled one of the cards for me and put in a proper engineering ticket. Nearly a month has gone by and they still haven't fixed it. The Acct Manager confirmed that I'm not receiving any points, they'll have to credit them back once the problem is fixed. I asked to speak to someone more senior, but the Acct Manager says, "There is no one above me who is customer facing and would be able to speak with you."
- Around June 26 I got a notification the Banking interest rate had increased - it was previously 1.25%. On June 30 they sent an email clarifying that the increase was announced prematurely, it didn't take effect until the 28th.
- On June 29 I received an email saying they discovered that in early June, "The cashback rewards rate was erroneously reduced from 3% to 2%." They are going to credit everyone the difference in points that they should have received.
If you want to risk doing business with SoFi, be sure to double- and triple-check all your accounts!!!

Within 24 hours I was advised they were working on it. 48 hours later, they requested duplicate documentation of what was uploaded + an actual copy of my SS card. I complied. I was told it was approved and the final offer would be in my email within 48 hours. 4 days later, nothing. I call and long story short, 2 more weeks of asking for more and more documentation to the point they were asking for access to my IRS records.... for a small loan. I was not giving them any more access to the VERY sensitive information I had already. Went with a competitor company and was approved and funded for MORE money all within 72 hours. I wish I would have seen the reviews on this company before. Waste of time and impact on my inquiries.

It is almost 5 weeks trying to get a $5,000 personal loan and these people continually ask for the same information. I have faxed to them repeated information, they will tell me they do not need anything else it is under review and then they ask for something else. Customer Service is nice but they do not know what they are doing. I am out of work for 3 months and during this time one employee will request when is my return for me to write a letter so I did and another employee ask me to have my company write a letter on a company letterhead. It is repeated information that they seem not to receive or they continually change their minds what they need.
I have to make all the phone calls to them asking what else do they need and they will tell me nothing, it is under review and the next time I call they need something else. I would never deal with this place again. To date, I have received nothing. Are they afraid I will not pay their monthly payment since I am out of work for 3 months or are they afraid I am not returning to work? They are a waste of time. Never again calling them 2 times a day for 4 weeks getting different information every call.

I had high hopes for SoFi as I chose to refinance my mortgage with them. I wish I had not chosen them. It started OK & they contacted me quite late in the day to review my online application (submitted May 26). It was the Thursday before Memorial (May 27) and I thought OK - let's just get this done so nothing is held over the long weekend. During the conversation the SoFi agent told me we should be able to close in about 2 weeks. I got everything they needed uploaded that night. I signed the documents as requested that night in my account. I was provided revised docs on May 28 & those were signed the same day.
I heard nothing more for 3+ weeks (despite me reaching out to ask why nothing had changed and being told my account had been escalated it was still over a week before I got a call from another SoFi agent to handle the closing). At this point, I was asked for four separate letters of explanation (one was to explain distance of my property and my work address - I am in sales and have worked remotely for over 20 years and I have never had a mortgage company ask for such a letter of explanation; one was regarding a property that I haven't owned or lived in in over 20 years). I provided all those and asked when the closing would be (we were at a month of waiting). Then I was asked to provide bank statements which I did but still wasn't given a closing date.
A week later I was asked to provide additional pay statements (despite having provided pay statements at the beginning of the process). I finally got pre-closing docs to review and sign on June 24 but still wasn't given a close date (despite being told through text and in my acct that my loan had been approved). I also asked about the increase in cash at close as it was DOUBLE what the original estimate was. I never got an explanation on how the estimated amount was so much lower than the preclosing documents but got side tracked by more items to provide. This time it was an explanation of a credit inquiry made on May 27...which was the original SoFi agent pulling my credit report for the application review. Really?? I have to provide an explanation to the lender for the lender pulling my credit report? Yes - I did. Then I had to provide proof that my homeowner's insurance was paid in full (part of the escrow on the current mortgage).
It was a constant parade of providing more and more documents with no thought of consolidating the requests or making advance requests. The guy handling this part always acted like they were waiting on me when in fact I was waiting on them. It was very unorganized and not consumer friendly (and I have had 5 home mortgages in my name and several refinances in the past). I never got a close date until 2 days before the close and I was incorrectly told that my husband would have to be present even though he is not on the loan or on the title for the home. They did not tell me I had to have a non-family witness on site to witness the signing of some of the documents...the closing attorney told me 24 hours before the close.
SoFi conveniently "remembered" to tell me hours after the closing attorney already informed me--this was a major inconvenience as it was a holiday weekend and most of my neighbors were out of town for the weekend. I closed with the attorney on July 1 and wired the money to the closing attorney as requested on July 2. BUT - it was NOT over...I was notified July 7 that they made a mistake and my first payment would be due Aug 1 instead of Sept 1. Also I was sent new closing documents and I overpaid by over $1000 (but this amount was still over $1000 than the original estimate). The previous mortgage had not been paid off yet (and yes, the payment for July came out of my acct the day after closing on the new loan). So, more documents to sign, now the title company owes me a refund for what I overpaid and the the documents were signed and returned within 2-3 hours and the loan still hasn't been disbursed.
I don't know if they have a bunch of new people that aren't experienced but this is the worst experience I've ever had with a mortgage. I'm frustrated and tired of it all and it still isn't completely finalized. They haven't been very apologetic and certainly were not very accurate with the documentation. I wish I had never filled out that application---I think any other company would have been better than SoFi. I will never use them for anything again and won't even set up auto-drafts for the mortgage payments because of all the miscues. If you are looking at SoFi for a mortgage I wouldn't recommend them. If you decide to use them anyway, I hope it goes better than my refinance went.

Great credit history, never missed a payment, permanent tenured teaching job with Gov. agency (11 years on the job so far), perfect everything, around 100k income but despite all of this my 35K personal loan was declined from Prosper and Discover at the same time whereas they both called me before to tell me that I was approved.
After hurting my credit through reporting "hard inquiry" that I knew about right away through my Credit Karma subscription, they told me the next day that I was declined for "not being able to verify my identity". More than 3 frustrating hours was with Discover and Sofi and Prosper did not help because they keep repeating what they see on their computer according to them.
Bottom line, there is no a valid reason for the rejection. The only interpretation I have is that because my home phone is an internet one through Vonage and it seems their system does not recognize it but it still does not make any sense because they have my 2 cellphone numbers. So why? Racism is is the only answer. They all say the same exact nonsense no matter what you say to prove that you are honest and willing to provide anything to prove it. Discover was able to send me a code and recognize the phone but the next day another employee wanted to try my cellphone but his "COMPUTER SYSTEM IS NOT ACCEPTING IT".
I immigrated here more than years ago and I never saw or heard something like that. Either racism or ignorance/hate of the other is growing so fast and which is becoming scary or the economy is so bad that these banks are broke and they keeping the few money left to their acquaintances. I can prove every word of what I said here anytime to anybody!!!
Prosper let even like my saving account before changing their mind. They even suspended my account for 3 months on their company that they asked to open to apply for the loan. So, no my saving account is STILL linked and they did not give me any notice to check that it was cancelled at least. That means "power abuse" like in dictators countries", you have to trust them with your life savings but they can turn you down for any non-reason. Best of all, I have a Discover card since 2004 and had yesterday 10K700 credit line with zero interest for one year. Saying that to the employee did not help either.
I have 8 other credit card with an open credit line totaling 57000 that I am not using but only eight hundred dollar ONLY!!?? Sofi did it to me twice but they were smarter not to count it as a hard inquiry at least. This should be in the Guinness world book. That means all they are all ONE company playing the game and using us as Americans for their own greedy and immoral gains. Sorry for not having a Mike as a first name. My background got a better job than yours which should make you also jealous and maybe it did. It is ironic that I teach my students not to be racist whereas it has been growing these days faster than the crypto-currencies. So with a 770 credit score I was offered a higher rate than they advertised. I would like to see the requirements for the 4.99% loan advertised. Or hear from anyone who actually got a great rate. I personally think it's a bait and switch advertisement. Yeah maybe a friend of the owner got a great rate but not the average citizen. I actually got a 5.99% at my credit union for a separate loan at a later date. FYI I did take the sofi loan anyways because I didn't bother to look at the interest rate. MY ERROR. Good luck to all. I applied for a personal loan to consolidate debt. I have a good credit score of 787 (Experian) and never missed a payment on anything in my entire life. To my surprise, I was declined with one of the reasons being that I had too many accounts, which I found odd, because people apply for debt consolidation to reduce accounts/payments into one, so it is expected to have multiple accounts.
On top of that, I don't have a ton of revolving debt accounts; around five with all but one having relatively low balances. I was shocked at their decision to say the least. However, it is comforting to read reviews to know that I'm not the only one that experienced this. And based other reviews, I'm glad I was declined since quite a few people are having issues with the service. Debt consolidation was the reason for my personal loan application with SoFi. I applied the first few days of June (with excellent credit BTW), while I was on 6 week paternity leave. I received a request to verify my employment and I reached out to my employer. I received a VOE link and supplied it to SoFi. SoFi and I went back and forth for over a month and a half with constant emails from them asking for my employer to verify my employment. After my leave was over, I was told to send a copy of my pay stub, which I did. Then...the emails started over again with “please confirm employment, please confirm you’re no longer on leave, please confirm employment, please confirm you’re no longer on leave”. I work for a 10,000 plus employee company and their policy is to refer to the VOE link...which I sent 8 times. I sent the Unum link 6 times. I sent a copy of my pay stub. All with more emails and no results.
In the end, the wait was so long that the interest rate increased by 2 points, the non-stop emails asking for info I confirmed over half a dozen times and each person I spoke to ensured me that they were “escalating the matter” with no results. I don't even know where to start with Sofi. We obtained a personal loan in 2015 after getting the impression they were of higher standards than other loan providers. While not new, I think they began in 2011, they seemed to really be pushing for presence in tv and other ads in 2015. They appear so helpful and modern, catering to young professionals. Don't be fooled.
From the start, it was apparent they had limited customer service and their reps seemed to lack experience performing their duties. We often spoke with the same reps which was not comforting because they did not provide decent customer service. It was nearly impossible to get ahold of an actual person to receive help. I recall being prompted to leave messages. It was a very "start up" feel where you hung up going ummmm what have I joined?!
Just trying to pay our first bill was made 1000x harder by their reps. They inserted our routing number incorrectly for autopay and back in 2015 they didn't allow changes such as that done online by the account holder. You had to call to change it. Their system continued to show the wrong number on our side so we called A LOT...to be told it was right. But then the payment wouldn't go through and we got messages stating fees would be attached to our first payment for going past a certain date. Finally we got to add it ourselves after many complaints. My birthday trip to Portland was ruined when I received yet another call from Sofi on a Saturday stating we hadn't paid. Just the week before a rep said everything was fine with autopay. I spent one of those 2 days on the phone with Sofi, got nowhere. I don't take many trips and that is my memory of my first trip to Portland. Sofi ruining it.
At the beginning of 2017, my husband lost his engineering job, our main income. Sofi has a program (or had) that allowed, in 3 month increments, the ability to get a forbearance and not pay the loan during that time although interest still accrues (of course). We went through that twice. It was laughable. I don't recall any formal paperwork or documents for it. Definitely nothing in our records on our account. It involved someone calling and basically just asking if you found work. A minute or so then done. There was no assistance with a resume or job search or anything it claimed to help do.
Once he found a job and we got off the program, they re-amortized the loan. Well, we later assumed that's what they did because no disclosures were provided at that point or new documents. We called asking about it just to be told the new payment will arrive in a statement later. It wasn't until the statement came out that we knew what our new payment would be or any status of the amount. Our account online did not update in real time from what we remember. It wasn't until later. We immediately knew it was incorrect as the payment was lower than our initial payment after a 6 month forbearance. We called right away to be told it was fine, it was correct. We called a second time to state our concerns and were told by a second rep that it was correct. We went on to pay more each month to be safe.
Fast forward to April 2019, almost 2 years later, they emailed us to say they made a mistake re-amortizing the loan and we now need to pay twice as much to correct this. We would need to log on and sign a document so they could nearly double our monthly payment. (That document still sits there unsigned.) It was only about $2 less than double. We can't afford that. Or we could not pay double and face the issues. It would far surpass the amount of interest legally disclosed to us and it would make a very large balloon payment at the end which is not disclosed.
I contacted the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau). I opened a claim, added all pertinent info and the CFPB forwarded it to Sofi. It took a few weeks for Sofi to respond as the CFPB required them to do. Sofi first called my husband to apologize and say they had found the recorded calls where we told their employees that payment amount was not correct. She went on to tell him basically what their response was to the CFPB in the claim forum. Part of the CFPB process is finding an agreed upon solution. Or so we thought. Sofi said we could continue paying the lower amount through the end of our loan term (1/23) and they would get rid of the remaining amount. They said assuming we make these payments on time through the loan term...so if we miss an on time payment or something happens this offer will go away.
The CFPB closed the claim before we could respond, but we could add comments for Sofi to see. We asked for a formal document. No response. We also directly emailed Sofi asking for this document and didn't receive an answer. This is why I will have a lawyer prepared to act. They provide nothing in writing and you can't trust their employees to correct mistakes or look into issues. I have other small issues with Sofi that I chose to omit because this is long enough.
My husband and I are disgusted when we see their ads everywhere these days. They could harshly impact others' lives as they have ours. They offer so many more products than back when we joined. This has caused a lot of stress for us. Sofi may not keep their word. We won't know for 38 months. I see (maybe not legitimate) great reviews. If you dig, you can find the truth of others with similar problems. My husband and I warn anyone considering using a Sofi product. You can also research lawsuits against Sofi for a bigger picture view of the company.

That is the credit bureau they pull, and I have perfect payment history. Every time, I talk to someone in customer service they tell me some scripted reason which don't make any sense. I have 3 years of credit history, and a credit score way higher than a lot of consumers. This company don't want to give anyone a personal loan. They just want to pull your credit, and play games. My friend referred me to this company, but they don't assist people with GOOD CREDIT. Then when you keep asking customer service questions all they say is they can't do anything if your application is denied. The thing is I should be approved since, I meet all of the requirements!

I am highly educated and have had a very high paying job for over three decades with a credit score of 720. I took out two Personal Loans with SoFi over the past two years to help pay for some major home remodeling projects. Every time I have called SoFi in the past, the customer service dept has been very helpful. Unfortunately, I lost my job a few months ago and applied for their Unemployment Protection Program and was APPROVED. The Forbearance only lasts for three months, and unfortunately I am still unemployed, so I applied for another three month Forbearance (you can have up to one year, but in three month increments). The second time I applied I was declined.
When I called SoFi to find out why I was accepted the first time and not the second time, they said I was declined because of an error "the system made" the first time and I should not have been approved then either. When I asked if there was anything they could do to override this decision that "the system made", the Management in the "Special Program" division was rude, curt and made me feel like a bad person. His name is Theodore and his customer service skills are the worst I've ever experienced, he could not explain why "the system made an error" and was sharp and abrupt with me. Why is it SoFi that you would approve someone one time for a program you offer, but wouldn't approve a second time????

I was approved for a personal loan and signed the disclosure agreement and everything, and in the process of my money being distributed to me, an employee from customer service named Jeanne accidentally cancelled that loan and made it inactive. Then I called customer service who said that it was their error, they told me to apply again and when I did, I did not qualify for the same amount. Then, one customer support agent said she would put in a note to approve me of the same amount and rate, but their system went out and she could not do it.
When I called again, I spoke to someone named Bree who told me that she can't do that, and she forwarded me to an account specialist. The account specialist told me she would call me back, but I haven't heard back for 3 days. A terrible team with terrible ownership of their actions and errors, just screwing me over in the end even though they're the ones who made an error and cancelled my loan distribution.

SoFi will pre-qualify you for a loan, make you send them all kinds of tax documents to prove your income, drag the process out for over a month and then deny you. I have 720+ credit score, $100K annual income, ~15% credit utilization, minimal expenses, no delinquencies, no hard inquiries other than auto-finance two years ago - they just can't seem to wrap their head around the very documents they request and will keep asking you for written explanations for every document you provide... bunch of amateurs handling your sensitive, personal information. Wouldn't be surprised if they have no intention of giving you a loan and instead sell your personal information.

I already have a SoFi personal loan- 25k, paying off automatically every month for the last year. Only debt is Sofi debt and credit card that insignificant. Shifted to a contract job-and by the way I am an Occupational Therapist for the last 15 years, making very good money. They said that the only way to take off my husband's name as a co-guarantor on the loan was to pay off the loan. So I applied for another loan, and granted that it was bigger than the previous, and given all the hassle of documentation that I had to provide, they denied me. Obviously the good reviews here are for the people have been approved. I am giving a bad review, despite having a current loan with them. That apparently doesnt help if you think that you would have built trust with them. And their answers to the denial are very vague. Call me disgruntled but they set your hopes very very high and slap you with a denial.
Take your business somewhere. I don't understand the mechanics of their borrowing-might as well try the bank. Also- the initial loan needed a co-guarantor with the amount of money I was making- I needed a co-guarantor. So it was my husband and I, with an income of close to 200k and a 750++ credit with a credit card that we circulate and revolve of less than 30k. The income to debt ratio was not even high. I don't know what they are looking for in a borrower- millionaires probably. Obviously, you are borrowing money to make money or to improve your financial situation. You cant be borrowing if you already have. Run away please!

I have borrowed from Lending Club in the past and it was a great experience, but decided I would try SoFi because they do not have the high origination fee. It seemed easy enough and everyone I have spoken with has been very nice, but as another reviewer put it, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I would get one email saying I was approved and would be funded in 4 days or less then another notification saying it was still in review. I got a phone call confirming my identity (which was supposed to be the last step) and saying my loan would be funded the next day and then an email requesting payroll information stating it was in review.
After phone calls twice yesterday, one telling me it was approved and ready to fund and the other stating it was still in review, I have no clue what to expect at this point. Their "approval" came back .23 higher than preapproved, but I let that go. I have good credit and was planning to pay off the loan in March after bonuses anyway, but I am losing confidence in this company.

I had a terrible experience with SoFi. After getting preliminary interest rate estimates from multiple companies, I decided to go with SoFi because they offered the lowest rate. I submitted an application, (which requires a hard credit check) only to be told after the hard credit check that I am approved for a rate .6% higher than what they initially told me a few weeks earlier. On top of that, the rate was HIGHER than the interest rate on one of my existing student loans. Let that sink in...they wanted me to refinance 1/3 of my loans at a HIGHER interest rate.
When I called to clarify, they said the issue was because my credit dipped by 10 points between the soft and hard credit check (credit score is still excellent). The dip was due to paying off a significant size loan the previous week which I said I can confirm but they didn’t seem to care and said proof of paying it off wouldn’t change things. Be very cautious before allowing them to do a hard credit check and make sure to compare the interest rates on all existing loans. It seems likely they will try to scam you and get you to refinance at a higher interest rate.

I sent them two years' of W2's, and two months' pay stubs, and they claim they could not verify my income and to reapply. As the President of my company, I asked them what they needed for verification and they only repeated they could not process the loan due to "lack of income verification".

I just had the worse experience I have ever had trying to get a small refi loan, only #7K. I was told one rate by one SoFi rep and then when applied, the offered rate was higher. When I called their customer support, their only explanation was that the first rep was wrong. It was higher, but not significantly, so I decided to go ahead with the loan. Big mistake! Since I am self-employed, I had to send in last two years tax returns. No big deal, but their upload process did not work so I had to go through a few more hoops to get them the returns.
They then sent me a request for an explanation on why there was a difference in my business income between the years. I had to write a letter stating that my business is project related and some years are better than others, but the lowest year was still over $125K and the high was near $190K (remember this is for a 7K loan). They said they could not include my wife's income of nearly $65K in their equation. Incredible! Then they send a letter saying my explanation was too vague and I needed to add more detail. I was about to walk away at that point, but they said that this was the last thing they needed. Not even close.
After they accepted my second letter, they then requested more information, including my Birth Certificate! At this point, I told them to cancel my application. This transpired over several days and cost me 3-4 hours. One last time --> for a $7K loan. BTW, my pulled credit rating was near 850. I will run away from ever using SoFi again, and I encourage you to avoid at all cost. Perhaps they are better if you are not self-employed, but what a terrible experience.

Oh boy where do I begin?! What a bunch of zombies. First off, I am self employed with 3 years of booming tax returns, and a FICO of well above 750, ensuring that I am a well qualified candidate for the personal loan. First off, nobody here knows what the heck they are talking about, especially when it comes to the IRS tax code and establishing a new purchase. I have 2 investment properties listed on my schedule E, and I had just purchased my 3rd property 3 weeks ago (and have proof, of course), yet they still denied me because they BELIEVED that there MIGHT BE a small CHANCE that I would use the proceeds of the loan to improve my other 2 properties.
Mind you my two other properties are already fully remodeled and rented. I offered to give them proof of new purchase, yet they still denied my loan for the sole purpose of not believing that I had just purchased a new property and even offered to prove it to them. Just completely ignorant, even the supervisors and underwriters. After reading reviews of this place, I am glad they denied me. I decided to go with another lender and got approved without any issues. This place is a joke and a waste of your time.

DO NOT believe them if they encourage you to apply. They completely screwed my credit score. I had an excellent credit score of 810, which I worked hard to build over the years. I needed a personal loan. I knew 100% my income was more than enough to get a loan, but the only issue is that I had a different employment (in between a 1099 and w2).
I felt my paperwork might be missing, so I checked with them first. I spoke to THREE different representatives. They all encouraged me, stating that "Don't worry, with your current paperwork you should be fine" and telling me that I should be okay, etc etc. I applied, and sure enough, they came back saying that same documentation I told about to their representatives suddenly was not sufficient. Pulled a hard credit check, which knocked my score down from 810 to 680. They have a "speak to the CEO" button, but it leads to to yet another person 'responding on behalf of the CEO'. I don't know if they are good or bad in other ways, but in this particular aspect they screwed me over big time. Bottom line: BE VERY CAREFUL.

Yes some of my accounts were terminated and others I set up a different payment plan etc. SoFi has offered nothing except poor information, assistance and I owe over $1000 to just get within 30 days late. This all happened about five months ago and my credit rating has plummeted. I cant get past 45 days past due even with paying additional money to try and get caught up.
My payments are $682 and I have been paying during the month except not in one payment but biweekly. I am still in arrears and it just keeps going downward. The customer service varies on who you talk to that day and some have been rude or simply had no idea how to help me. I have been told so many things by so many people at the company. I had decent credit and it's gone in a blink of the eye. Avant Credit served me well these past few months and let me make half the payment I owe and then add on the remainder later. I've been in business for 23 years. I have had personal loans from time to time without any complications. I have been receiving SoFi mailings for months now when I got one that caught my attention by the low interest rate. Well as I'm sure you can figure out I decided to go ahead and see if it was really in my interest to take a vacation. So I began the process and right out of the starting gate red flags began to pop up for me. The website does not work correctly and you are forced to contact them through other means. I chose instant chat. Well that went kind weird because every time I asked a question I was put on hold for minutes at a time. No exaggeration here. Ok funny weird but not that alarming yet. Then I was told my interest rate. Not as good as stated in the mailings but still pretty good and I get it, it's a tactic to hook you.
Now they wanted a copy of my driver's license. This made me uncomfortable seeing I had to upload it via the web but still it's 2019 and we are not in the stone age anymore but then I realized this isn't my first rodeo and I don't ever recall having to submit a copy of my driver's license. Now it gets really juicy. They requested paystubs. Now at first you might think this is normal but I can't even remember the last time I was ask for a paystub to verify my income seeing how there is a little thing called a CREDIT REPORT. Did you even look at my credit report?!
When I told them I was self-employed they requested 2 years tax returns. TAX returns!!! I'm only taking out a small personal loan not buying a new house. This was the straw the broke the deal for me. They asked if I was LLC or sole proprietor? What's the difference in relation to the personal loan I asked. I should have asked her if she even knew what LLC was. The way she kept putting me on hold all the time she could have the time to look it up. She then said all I needed to do was upload my 1040... LOL. Are you kidding me. You want me to upload my tax return via the internet! I don't think so mostly for security reasons and my taxes are a little more complicated than just a 1040. Ask your CEO if his taxes are as simple as a 1040. Mind you, this is all for a small personal loan. I know this is more serious for most people but for me it was for foo money.
I began to wonder about the tactics of this company and decided to google reviews on them and just as I suspected not good at all. It seems to me they want prey on the vulnerable just by their tactics. I felt like I was 18 years old again. I just purchased a new $40,000 truck and all I had to do was sign for it. I get it they need proof but it was the way they handled the whole process that began to raise red flags for me. They are definitely trying to prey on those that are in need. Be cautious if you move forwarded with them and positively get everything in writing before you agree to anything!! For me the loan was just play money to take a vacation, maybe do some home improvements so I passed on it. I see someone else had a problem getting off their mailing list. That will probably be my demon now.

Well, every week they would ask for some additional documentation. Then nothing for days. Finally, after a month, they said no and provided no real reason other than we had credit card debt (the purpose of the loan was to capture this - so that was apparently a surprise). No one has any idea what they are doing when you talk to them. They called us repeatedly and request the same information. So, now my credit score has dropped as a result of their pulling it, and they had the same information at the end that they had during the "pre-approval". The person said that was a cool idea, but they could not get me a mortgage loan as it was zoned as commercial (even though I had authorization to change the zoning). They suggested I try the route of personal loan. I answered a few questions and got "PRE-APPROVED" for $50,000. I did not finalize the last steps (of a hard pull) because I did not have the accepted offer from the people I was buying the church from. Today they authorized the sale and I contacted SOFI to confirm the offer was going to be "pre-approved" still once they confirmed the details on my credit report. It turns out, the person on the phone said that I can not use the "PRE-APPROVED" loan on real estate purchases.
So one said, I can't use the mortgage so go personal, then the personal said I can't use it on real estate and turned down my application. I would not have put in a final offer on the place if they had not "PRE-APPROVED" me for the loan. I will NEVER do business with them on future business loans and I STRONGLY recommend that no one do business with them if they don't even communicate between departments about what is an acceptable loan is and what "pre-approved" loans actually mean. Tomorrow, I have to run around trying to find a $45,000 loan so I can close on the property that I already agreed to because a SOFI "PRE-APPROVED" Loan does not mean what it seems means to every other person on this planet. I am frustrated and mad as a man can possibly get.
We regret that you had such a frustrating experience in applying for a loan with SoFi. At this time, SoFi does not allow our personal loans to be used for real estate purchases. We would like to have you speak directly with one of our licensed mortgage officers who can go over what would be needed to help you purchase the property, if possible. Please give us a call at (844) 763-4466 so we can discuss in further detail.

I regret that I did not research this company before I submitted my information and applied for a loan. I do not know the outcome, because I am still within the process. However, I applied 2 weeks ago. They have asked me for the same set of documents 4 times. I have even spoken to them twice and had them send me an email so that THEY can upload the information. Even after doing that, I received another email telling me my application is not complete because they need... (you guessed it)... the same information I've sent them already.
If I am asked for my ID and my 1120S (2 years) one more time, I will pull out of the loan process. And when I complained that I do not appreciate wasting my time and getting on the phone to have them upload documents I have already sent, I am subjected to an agitated response. The woman actually said to me, "We can get into the back and forth of whether you actually gave your documents to someone - but it is clear to me you didn't!" I was shocked because I was looking at the email I sent the other customer service agent at SoFi with my attachments. If I hadn't already taken the hard credit hit - I would have immediately walked away. But I'm hanging in just to get the final answer. Please, do yourself a favor. Pass on this finance company.

I received a pre-approval letter from SoFi last week. I didn't think too much about it but the rates looked very good. I have been looking to consolidate debt and thought I would try SoFi. I applied on a Saturday and sent documents a few times. This became irritating but not awful. So finally by midday Sunday I had all documents to their satisfaction. I have my own rep commissioned business (an LLC S Corp) which shows strong income. My W2 show more modest income. I was apprehensive as I thought they may have difficulty in understanding the income structure and flow. I noticed they pulled a hard credit report on Sunday evening.
As Monday rolls around I get "declined" letter. The reason was debt to income ratio. Argh. My total income is $200,000+, credit score 777, never late on any payment in my 50 years on earth. The debt is like 40k that I was going to roll into the personal loan which carries a nicer interest rate. I understand their decision as it seems to be a bot that makes the decision. My issue is why didn't they call and ask or talk with me? I suspect they just didn't tie the small business income to the W2 income. They missed a rock solid opportunity. Bottom line, avoid. There are better options available.
One of the main factors considered when we evaluate applications is income relative to debt. Though our personal loans can be used to consolidate debt, they are not technically ‘consolidation loans’. As such, existing and prospective debts must be considered. If you feel an error was made in reviewing your application, please call us at 855-456-7634. If it’s confirmed that an error was made, we can use the same inquiry for any subsequent submission within 30 days of the original inquiry.

Own 2 businesses of my own and work a full time job, Never had a negative mark on my credit history, no repossessions, no foreclosures, no missed or late payments ever in my entire life. I have 35 years of government at every level from federal to State to County and lastly city employment, 30 of those years in Law Enforcement. Simultaneously I have worked in the medical field for 37 years. I hold a Master's degree from a top military university. I have a credit score in the 700s.
Yes I have a lot of medical bills and school loans but have been paying on them without fail for about the last 8 years-was seeking personal loan for debt consolidation-isn't that what they do here anyway? My annual income ranges from 75K to 150K annually. Shouldn't I be a candidate they consider-oh wait a minute, I am female so that is why I need a co-signer for the first time in my life at age 55. I am seriously laughing out loud. Nothing and I mean nothing speaks louder than this. Women wake up. Don't use businesses that use a double standard as a role model for lending institutions. Go elsewhere. I did.
We understand that it can be disconcerting to learn that you are not approved for a loan that you wanted. We consider a variety of factors in our underwriting criteria; however, sex does not play a role in our credit decisions. One of the main factors considered on our Personal Loan applications is the debt capacity. While our personal loans can be used to consolidate debt, the funds would be deposited into your personal account, if funded. If you have any additional questions, please reach out.

Do not do business with this company!!! They will automatically deny you to qualify for a loan with no!! No!! No!! Reason why!! You will never qualify don't even try. Also their customer service is incompetent - just a bunch of young, inexperienced kids, their website is also horrible. My daughter spent 5 months with this company trying to get her loan processed, she was denied with no reason why so she tried with 4 different co-signers - all who had great salaries and credit and all were denied with no explanation from either the website or the customer service. She spent hours on the phone with inadequate customer service when she had issues with their website. All employees she dealt with were unsure of their own processes and how to resolve issues. Save yourself and do not do business with this company.
We truly regret that you had such a poor experience in working with SoFi. It sounds as though you did not receive clear communication regarding the decision(s) on your daughter’s application or for any of the intended Cosigners. From what I have read on here all the negative reviews are right on the mark. Let me tell you my experience... I make a good six figure income and have a great score in the upper 700s. I decided to submit for a personal loan to consolidate debt in my efforts to become debt free in the next 12-18 months. I make a good living and this loan would have shaved off a few months from my plan. This process started at the end of July - around the 20th I believe. I googled “best consolidation loan companies” and some respected sites lead me to SoFi.com. After setting up an account and applying for a $50k loan, the interest rate almost doubled from what was advertised. Ok, it’s still slightly better than some of the credit cards. They offer you to automatically withdraw from your bank account to shave off some interest. I opted for that and a 5 year term with intentions of paying more each month against principal.
Next, you have to submit your pertinents including SSN and Drivers License. Understandable, as this is an online loan so they need to confirm your identity. Finally, they ask for your most recent pay stub to confirm income. All smooth so far. They are reviewing the information. At this point, I believe it all went downhill from there. They next needed proof of employment. I have my own business, so it was easy to provide. They asked to see my 2017 Personal Tax Returns. Also okay because they need to prove income. Only hiccup is, I filed an extension to October for 2017. Then, THE REQUESTS FOR MORE INFORMATION kept coming. Copies of: 2016 & 2015 Personal Taxes, 2017 Personal Extension, 2016 & 2015 Business Taxes, 2015 & 2016 K-1s, 2017 Business Extension, 2016 Profit Loss Statement - Balance Sheet, 2017 YTD Balance Sheet.
But here’s the rub. They didn’t ask for all of this at once. Little by little they ask, you submit and they review and get a message that they need more information. This went on almost the entire month of August. Finally, I get a call from a super nice associate from SoFi regarding their latest request: 2015 Business Tax Transcripts, 2016 Business Tax Transcripts, 2015 Personal Tax Transcripts & 2016 Personal Tax Transcripts. The associate apologized for the amount of information needed but said “This should be the last bit of information needed to process the loan”.
The personal side was easy to obtain as the IRS has it on their website. The business side had to be submitted by mail (it could also be on their site but after searching I could not find). I submitted the personal to SoFi and wrote a cover letter stating that it could take some time for the business transcripts to be mailed back. Meanwhile, I get another phone call requesting the transcript form for the business transcript. The form I JUST MAILED. I finally received the business transcripts a couple weeks later and submitted those. Relief swept over me as I finally completed all the forms they needed. Alas, no. They now need Proof of Submission for my 2017 Personal and Business Taxes.
As I said earlier, I filed extensions for both. Business was submitted earlier in September to meet the federal deadline of 9/15. I gave them a copy of the E-File email response that the business taxes were submitted and accepted. And, a cover letter explaining that I won’t be filing my taxes until October as I will be paying the government in full on that day. I then lowered my term from 5 years to 3 years to aid in the risk to SoFi in the loan as well as save myself another 1% in interest. Phone call from SoFi a few days after submitting that information explaining they now need a copy of the electronic filing form submitted the IRS as well. They also said if I do not produce this information, they will be using my 2015 and 2016 records and my interest rate and loan amount will change.
I explained again how I won’t be filing my personal taxes until October and everything shared above. It seemed to pacify them BUT at the end of the call, the associate said they need this information by September 23rd or my application “will automatically be cleared from the system” and I will have to start over with another hard pull on my credit. This didn’t sit well with me. The next day, I get another phone call from SoFi that they now need...you guessed it...more information. They need me to send them an updated Balance Sheet as the one sent in August is now two months old. Enough! I asked that they withdraw my application. Saving 8% now doesn’t seem worth it and I will just have to pay off the debt the old fashioned way.
I want to conclude this diatribe with a note: I completely understand that the personal consolidation loan is an unsecured loan which SoFi has to diligently consider with risk assessments from the underwriter. I understand they need this information to gauge risk since no equity is involved as collateral. However, two points to this... 1) the loan is set for automatic payments/withdraws from my account. This should mitigate some of the risk. 2) They should detail on the front end what information is needed and ask for it all at once. Every case is different but they should have some idea based on loan amount, initial income and credit score what they will need to approve the loan. Instead, they piecemealed the need information needed which dragged this out for two months and brought me to the 60 day deadline to complete the application.
Looking back, this was a complete waste of time. On the positive and why I giving them one extra star: The company does respond to calls and online chat sessions in a timely manner. They did work hard to get the information to the underwriters. The underwriters, although difficult, did their jobs and not completely deny the application, but kept asking for information. Bottom Line: Be prepared for a long and time consuming process with higher loan amounts. Getting a loan from SoFi might not be as easy as advertised. In the end, I had to just tap out. I should have read the reviews on here before deciding to go with SoFi. Better due diligence on my part next time. Lesson learned.

I applied for a personal loan with SoFi because I thought they were a high-tech, efficient, and transparent company. As it turns out, it's just a marketing trick. Take your time to read the reviews and avoid SoFi if you can. There are better options on the market. First, SoFi is very slow. I have not heard back from the company for a week after applying. My online status said the company would respond in 2-4 days, but time went by and I heard nothing. After contacting customer service three times, I was finally told that SoFi needed to do employment verification, which I completed within 12 hours.
Then there was more silence. Eventually, I found this website and learned that my experience was not unique. This is not rocket science – when people apply for a personal loan it is usually urgent; car dealerships process larger loans within 15 minutes – it does not take 10 days to approve someone with a perfect credit record. Eventually, I gave up on SoFi and went with Lightstream. They completed the entire process in 4 hours – no verifications, no unnecessary back and forth.
Second, SoFi will ask you for a million documents relating to your employment. When I applied, I submitted a letter from my employer stating everything a creditor would need to know. SoFi got back to me requesting employment verification, which meant that I needed to contact my employer again and ask them to reach out to SoFi directly to provide the exact same information (position, salary, company name, etc.). Keep in mind that my job is so public that anyone with access to Google can find where I work and how much I make. On top of that, my credit score is 800+ and I have more than enough W-2 income for the amount I requested. There was absolutely no need to bother my employer.
Finally, SoFi will overcharge you. The company quoted me 6.99% APR. Because this was my first time taking out a loan, I compared it to credit card rates and thought I was getting a good deal. Well, LightStream gave me a loan at 5.49%. Overall, don't believe the hype in the media. SoFi is an old-school bureaucratic bank that markets itself as a high-tech, consumer-conscious company. If you need money fast and at a reasonable rate, you are better off with LightStream or other providers.
We regret that you did not have the best experience with SoFi. If you are willing, we would like to take a deeper look into your application and see what could have caused the delay on our end as well as why you were not followed up with, within 2-4 days as stated. We take our customer service very seriously and would like to be sure to prevent this going forward. If interested, please call us at (855)456-7634.

SoFi advised that they were unable to verify employment. They refused to accept any documentation verifying employment or to discuss any of the steps utilized in the underwriting process. They would not discuss who they contacted to verify employment. After a lengthy unproductive discussion, the agent continuously repeated that the steps in the underwriting process are proprietary and that they could not advise anything. They are apathetic in assisting the customer. Any reputable financial institution would at least attempt to verify or ask for additional documentation before denying a loan application. I am very unsatisfied with the lack of service provided. -A Current SoFi Customer.
We regret to hear that you’ve had such a poor experience in applying for a loan with Sofi. Though our underwriting process is proprietary, we certainly strive for transparency, within the scope of our policies and it doesn’t sound like that has been your experience. Tremendously deceptive service. It's the old bait-and-switch with them. First, you give them information and they tell you how much you can qualify for - which in my case was the amount I needed. Then you have to give them more information, driver's licence, pay stub - and they check you hard credit. And then they lower the amount of the loan, no explanation. Yes, after your credit score takes a hit. So then you try and talk to them, and their customer service people are rude. So you have no loan, no explanation to why, and you've got worse credit. Please do not use this service, ever.
We understand that it can be frustrating to learn that you have been declined after submitting your application. SoFi’s pre-qualification process is used to obtain a general understanding of eligibility through some high-level information relating to the criteria used to process the application but is not a guarantee of approval. We do apologize that you had a poor experience and regret that we were unable to earn your business.

I had refinanced my loan with SoFi in December 2017. I also referred my wife to refinance her loan. The refinance process itself was very straightforward. I did refer my wife for the $300 referral program. However as time went by, I did not receive the referral and called inquire as to the status. I was advised that because I did not provide my bank account information or complete a W9 on the SoFi website, and it had been more than 30 days, I would not be receiving the referral payment. I was never told during the process of either loan that I had to complete the W9 and the representative I spoke with today admitted that it is somewhat hard to see in the website.
I asked if they could make a one time exception since no one in my several calls with them during the processing of both loans made me aware of this, and they said they can only change it within 30 days. I advised the representative that I would look into refinancing both loans now elsewhere as I am very dissatisfied with this. She did not seem to care and told me I am free to refinance wherever I want. The call was 8/21/18 910 est.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback! We certainly understand how these interactions would create a poor experience and that is the last thing we want to provide for our valued Members. Our referral policy only requires that the referral is linked to the application within 30 days of the loan funding. So long as this requirement is met, we can certainly work with you to get the respective welcome and referral bonus payments processed. Please contact us for further review!

You would think that a company that is all over social media advertising how much it cares about its customers would make it easy for you to pay off your loan, right? Wrong! SoFi is as greedy as any other lending institution out there. I called to ask how I can make a “principal only” payment on my loan. First they told me that I can only make a principal only payment on the date my regular payments are due. I told the rep on phone that did not make sense. She told me that’s the company policy.
Then I sent an email through the link they have on their page marked as “email CEO” explaining that it was not possible that they made it so hard for someone to make a principal only payment, and recounted my phone conversation with their “customer service” rep. Later I received a call from someone pretending he was calling from the Office of the CEO. He apologized and explained that I was given the wrong information over the phone. He told me he would process my interest only payment over the phone. I thought the problem was solved. But that was just another ruse by SoFi.
About two weeks later, I received an email stating the rep who took my payment made a mistake. The $5,000 “principal only” payment I made did not go entirely to the principal. Their policy requires that they must first deduct from any payment whatever interest that is due at the time. So no matter what, SoFi never lets you make a 100% principle only payment. SoFi is as greedy as any other lending company out there. SoFi only pretends it care. That’s a ruse. Don’t trust them. I would never recommend SoFi to anyone.
SoFi’s loan products are offered as simple interest loans. This means that your loan will accrue daily interest, based on the remaining principal balance. Any payment received will be applied to any accrued interest, then towards the principal balance. To make principal-only payments, you just need to make one payment to cover the accrued interest and any additional payments made that day will be applied directly to the principal balance.

I'm surprised to see so many poor reviews for this online finance company. I received a personal loan from them. They did not require more paperwork than any other bank has in the past for other loans (mortgages) and were very prompt in their communication. I did not have the best of credit and was actually in need of the loan at the time and they really helped me out. I have since repaid that loan (in about a year or so) and am looking at a new mortgage with them. I really can't report anything negative.
Thanks so much, Christine! We appreciate you sharing your experience and love having you as a member of the SoFi community.

This was resolved prior to the company response to my initial rating. I will still reiterate to be prepared to have the initial offer interest rate increased after final review. I do find that they take longer than I would expect in finalizing their decision. On the upside I felt the company webpage was very user friendly and even though you feel you are not being dealt with, in reality you are. So when using this company just know it takes about 2-4 weeks to get to the document signing.

Consolidation Loan Application - Very disappointed with this company- I wish I would have researched better. It is the classic bait & switch in regards to interest rate. They continually say the process is in "review". Never answer any questions and do a hard inquiry on your credit report with absolutely no intention of loaning money. Moving on.

**Allow me to begin by stating that after wasting three weeks of my life with SoFi, Lightstream (via Suntrust Bank) approved me for a personal loan and had the funds in my account within 24 hours. Where does this ** show begin? After reading some positive reviews about SoFi's ease in granting unsecured personal loan requests, I logged on to their website. From there I filled out - 100% truthfully - the pre-qualification application. I was promptly pre-qualified for up to $50,000. Great. I worked the numbers on my project and decided that I only needed to pursue $32,000 of the $50,000. As I was working my numbers, SoFi representatives called and text numerous times, encouraging me to finish my full application.
I fill out the formal application and agree to a hard credit pull. IMMEDIATELY I get an e-mail telling me that SoFi needs a bunch of information from my HR department, in addition to the most recent paystub I uploaded. I didn't really want my employer literally speaking to this company, but I allowed it. It was clear at this point that this process was not going to be as "easy" as their website advertised.
This is where the 30+ phone calls to SoFi and lost years off of my life from frustration begin. SoFi could not in any way comprehend that, as a professor, I had a contracted pay rate but earn "overload" pay for work done above my contractual obligations (teaching more classes, MCAT tutoring, directed studies, etc.). It's not a lot more, but amounts to about $11,000 each year in money above my base pay. On my prequalification application I put the full amount that I made in 2017. That amount was about the same in 2016 as well. WELL -- the fact that my base pay is a mere $11,000 less than my contract pay (they obtained my contract pay from my HR) was some MORTAL SIN that doomed me in this process. It was the nail in my coffin.
I had my HR rep personally call SoFi to verbally explain the pay and how it operates. I gave my tax returns from 2016 and 2017 that were able to match - to the cent - what my 2016 and 2017 pay stubs showed, which ALSO matched the amount I entered in my prequalification application. I provided end-of-year paystubs from 2016 and 2017, but SoFi did not like them as they didn't differentiate base pay and overload pay. Our pay stub system doesn't keep records that way, but they got to personally speak to my HR rep, as well as review my tax returns for clarification and confirmation. They would have none of it.
The $11,000 pay "discrepancy" (100% accounted for on my 2017 tax return and my HR) was reason enough to kick me not only back from the original $50,000 AND the requested $32,000, but they ended up only offering me $7,200. They said my credit score (over 800) and all else was in great shape, but they couldn't honor their $50,000 without a differentiated paystub from end of 2017. I offered up 12 months of bank statements to watch the deposits -- it was a hard no. I am extensively summarizing this story. However, this series of events transpired over the course of three weeks, 30+ phone calls, and over 10 hours on the phone. I have never been denied for a loan in my life and I've never heard of such a demand.
I feel as if I was deceived. That my personal information was taken when there was never any intent to give me a loan. I will be watching my credit report closely going forward for fraud. SUMMARY: a current pay stub + HR e-mail + physically speaking with my HR + 2016 and 2017 end-of-year pay stubs (overload pay not differentiated) + 2016 and 2017 tax returns that directly aligned with the 2016 and 2017 end-of-year pay stubs = "we cannot verify your income" from SoFi. Well, thank God for Lightstream. Without a single request for income verification, and no other hassles, they put $32,000 in my bank account within 24 hours and at a 3% LOWER interest rate than SoFi was offering! My project will move forward and all future projects will be funded through Lightstream.

SoFi was listed as a partner with Credit Karma (That is where I got the information about your company). I was pre-approved for a lower rate since Credit Karma is already sharing my credit information with your company. Then why are there different rates on pre-approval, during application process and then at the final process. The customer support rep that I just called mentioned that you cannot consider two jobs for loan consideration. If that was the case, why was I asked to submit pay-stubs and year end stubs and w2’s from both jobs. As per the email, you were not able to verify bonuses from my jobs. I specifically mentioned to a chat rep earlier while uploading documents and requested to note that bonuses from my first job are quarterly, absolutely consistent since the past five years, paid at start of each quarter, second job is based on hourly rates.
With an annual income over 200K, credit score between 790-820, as per the email, they were not able to very via pay stubs and W2’s? – Probably they cannot do math correctly. Hard inquiry was run on my credit report, when requested to revoke it, the phone rep said you cannot. That negatively affects my chances for getting loans from other places. SoFi is more of a data collection company, collects data, sells it over and over again just like Credit Karma, with absolutely no product to back it. They purposefully offer great pre-approval offers, then they offer the exact opposite to drag people away from their products.

I’m currently in a frustrating loan process with this company. I am now worried myself if this company is legit or not. I do have college experience. Currently I am 2 classes away from a degree, when I stopped going. I am also a military veteran with an excellent job making 80k base Yearly with imminent and never ending OT, which puts me over 100k + consistently. Little debt to income ratio. Excellent credit score and history, which is a 799 currently.
Employment verification is the problem currently, which it shouldn’t be since I have provided all pertinent documentation and even allowed them access to employment data for the last 3 years of employment with my company, they claim to not be able to use the online employment verification system and or that online system is not a authorized way for employment verification. So both are not true as I contacted head of HR operations for my company, and according to the HR Supervisor, she has seen this company use this system before for employment verification for other employees which was kind of fishy to me and secondly she checked the system herself and it works just fine.
Also I got two notification emails that they accessed my information twice and still sending me email about employment verification, which has wasted my precious time. You can only speak to someone in their customer service call center. Then you have to explain the situation over and over again to customer service agents who have no power whatsoever. This is so annoying and frustrating. After reading other reviews about this company on here I thought to my self I really hope this company is legit and not using my info I provided for bad. I will be taking my business somewhere else if this is what’s to come. My bank Navy Federal Credit Union has one person you will go through for your loan process and have power to make decisions as well. I had high hopes for this company after reading the US News and World Report top lending companies.

I had the soft credit pulled by SOFI to see what my rate would be on an unsecured personal loan. They didn't ask me what I wanted to pay off and instantly turned me down. My credit scores run high 700 to low 800. They claim my debt to income was too high. This makes no sense because first of all they didn't ask how much I wanted to borrow and secondly they didn't ask what I wanted to pay off! Don't you think both of these would affect your DTI? I have been in the banking industry for 17 years and this company is a joke! You don't know someone's debt to income until you know how much they are wanting to borrow and what they are paying off with the loan.
When SoFi determines an applicant's eligibility for a Personal Loan, the loan is considered a new debt on top of existing obligations. Based on the obligations found on a credit report in comparison to income, we may decide it's not the right fit. Hope this helps!

I recently applied for a personal loan and made it through the pre-qualification process - the soft inquiry from Experian. How did I know this? I was told by a SoFi customer service rep there were four offers to review through my online profile. The problem was, I had offers to review but I couldn't see them in my online profile – clearly there was a system glitch. I was told by their IT department (through SoFi’s rep) to give it 48 hours for them to show. I wait the 48 hours and I still can’t review the offers. FYI: I’m now into day four of this ridiculous process.
When following up, yet again, their IT department (again, through a SoFi rep) BLAMED EXPERIAN and said that a soft inquiry from Experian was never pulled due to a problem on Experian's end and that I had to start over. Um, yes, SoFi was able to do the soft inquiry... otherwise how did I have offers to review. And yes, there were offers to review because I finally asked for and received them in writing from SoFi and I didn’t even have to start over. Needless to say, like so many others, the offers were insulting but it's not about that. This company clearly has weaknesses in their system and instead of accepting accountability for it, SoFi blamed another organization.
I have written several government organizations regarding this matter; I even let Experian's president know. It's also important to note that I sent an email to Anthony, president of SoFi, and I got a call from a person asking me questions that were outlined in my email. Clearly, the email to the SoFi president was a waste of time and the person who actually responded made it abundantly clear that he didn’t take the time to read it before calling me. I am hopeful that some kind of hand slap will force them to address their internal weaknesses. I just found it hard to believe they blamed another company. Please avoid these people. It is my belief that you can do a lot better with other lending institutions.

Applied for a "pre approved" personal loan. No worries. Rate was decent. App was easy. Then the repeat email with the same questions over and over. Phone ringing off the hook. You give them the info they are asking for just for them to call and ask for it again as it was "misplaced". Finally after 6 days of pure BS I received my approval. But by that time my local bank got to me within a day with a superb rate and I went with them. It's a shame this company is so slow on communication but I am glad they dragged their feet because it saved me over 1k in interest. Thanks SoFi! Jokes on you.

I am VP of a firm where in addition to my W-2s and tax returns they wanted employment verification which I again supplied in addition to all the other documents the requested. Every time I called I spoke with a different person in their call center and had to explain my situation again and again - very frustrating they don't have one person you work with. I became a 3% shareholder of my firm in 2017 (18 months ago) and they denied me because I can not show them 2 years of K1s for a firm I have not been a shareholder of for 2 years. Their evaluations are ridiculous and I am amazed they approve anyone. It now makes me nervous what they intend to do with all this information they obtain from people.

I have been receiving invitations in the mail from SoFi to apply. So I finally applied for a personal loan. 796 credit score, College grad, Good income. 7 years on the same job. Own my home. No debt. Last salary detail, and state ID uploaded along with the application. SoFi pre-approved me with a 7.5% interest rate. Three days later, I get an email that my application was denied.
So I called their customer service to know why. I was told that they could not verify my income. How is that possible? The company I work for is not small. But all their representative could tell me was that they use external service to verify income. Nothing else I said mattered after that to try to establish why, or to try to help them get the info they need. People work hard for their credit history. SoFi should not be denying a perfectly qualified applicant, based on some flimsy reason.

Where do I even begin. Over the 15 years or so that I’ve established credit, to include at least 5 credit cards, 3 personal loans, 10 auto loans, and a mortgage, I have never experienced such a ludicrous credit application process. Between mass confusion over the dates of my paycheck, an inability to understand the nature of overtime pay, and myriad other issues that have never cropped up in any other credit application I’ve made, I am completely fed up. In the end, after 13 days of insanity, I was “conditionally approved” for a fraction of my preapproval since they “couldn’t verify the income stated on my application”. Why has every other lender I’ve ever used understood my income? Stay far away from this company if you value your sanity.

There was an error with my processing paperwork. Not filled out by me but by my previous servicer and SoFi. My loan did not disperse for 7 weeks and SoFi charged me interest on my loan which means I got doubled charged from both loans. How can that be? I shouldn't be paying double interest on both loans if the money has not been moved. I talked to reps, they gave me a ridiculous explanation. I foresee paying double interest for up to 5 days, but not 7 weeks. I wrote the CEO. I got one phone call from a rep. Attempted to call back and got the main line. I don't want to talk to a new person each time.
I am also waiting for my outstanding balance to be moved since I made 2 payments to my previous loan servicer. Look, it is 4 months since "transferring my loan" and I am still waiting on my extra payments to be moved to my loan. I am still paying interest on that principal since it has been applied. SoFi is ridiculous. They should have rectify the situation. How many people are they making money off from doing this? $250 may not be much to one person, but if they do it to 200 people... Then it adds up. I look forward to transferring my loan asap.

SoFi has sent me mailer after mailer encouraging me to apply for a loan with them. I applied online for a personal loan (they have a $10,000 minimum loan amount) which I was pre-approved for. After that, I took a two-week vacation and left my app pending. During that time I received numerous text messages and emails from them reminding me that I had been pre-approved and encouraging me to complete the application process. I did so around the end of February of 2018, providing the documentation they required. Last two years tax returns, last 5 pay stubs, and a copy of the front and back of my driver's license. They also required employment information such as my supervisor's name and contact information, which I provided. After that, they asked me for more pay stubs as well as some sort of employment verification code "employer name and code and salary key" which I guess is linked up to ADP.
My company did not use this service. After that they contacted my supervisor twice via phone and twice via email, all asking for confirmation of employment and gross income. He confirmed all four times. My loan app was then under review for 2-4 days, supposedly. One week later I began contacting them to hear the status (3 total contacts from me). Their only reply was that they weren't sure the status as it was still under review. After a total of two weeks (14 days, March 16, 2018), I was finally emailed that they were unable to grant my loan and they were sorry. Their reasoning was that my ratio of balance to credit line on my current accounts was too high and my credit score of 691 was too low. I understand this is an issue, however, I was pre-approved even with those factors in mind. My point is that if those are the limiting factors that prevented my approval then why did it take so long for them to make a decision.
It was no sweat off their backs but it was a waste of time for me. Here is my response to their denial email. It's very sarcastic but I believe it gets my point across and sums it up: "Great, well thank you for wasting so much of my time and effort in asking me to provide you the information and documents that you needed. And thank you for hassling me about completing my loan application for weeks after I initially was pre-approved. Thank you for the dozens of fliers that you sent to my mailbox encouraging me to apply. Thank you for causing me to reach on numerous occasions to find out the status of my loan as I was left in the dark. Your company is bogus. People who meet the "requirements" for your loan approval likely don't need a loan in the first place.
I'm not sure what your company's motivation is but perhaps you can refrain from wasting peoples time in the future. My experience with SoFi matches a majority of the reviews posted online about your company: Strongly selling your product to people and then requiring a significant amount of documentation and investigation, only to deny. Again, thank you for nothing. I'll be sure to write a review."

In spite a credit score just below 800 they declined the loan... This was after 3 weeks of back and forth with new documents they requested. Finally received a call from customer service apologizing for requesting documents that were not even available for a business. Declined the next day. Thanks. I’m ecstatic. :)
I read a lot of reviews saying they made 6 figures with credit in the 800s and didn’t get approved. I have a score of 711 with income less than $80K/yr with $40K in debt and my experience was SUPER positive. Be careful that you would get tricked by their initial low interest rate. After sending after application, they will increase your APR by some "reasonable" reasons. Also, their refer program is to get more people in to pay more interest costs by sending you some low bonus. Say, you use a refer link from your friend from their website. So you apply for $10,000 loan, and they would give you $100 as bonus since you are referred by your friend. But then your interest rate would jump to 11%. If you do not use their refer link, you could get only 8% interest rate. By such a program, then people could get tricked to pay extra $1200 due to the higher interest rate.
Hey Hogan, thanks for sharing your concerns. When someone first starts an application with SoFi, they receive a pre-qualified offer based on some basic information stated and a "soft" credit pull. This offer is not affected by how someone is introduced to SoFi. Once an applicant chooses to move forward, SoFi will verify the stated information from the pre-qualification stage. It all looks good. After the turn down I was told my income did not add up even though my mortgage company, bank, and other lending institutions have and do say that my pay adds up. I asked the person on the phone how they calculate it and what was the number they came up with, he said, "I can not tell you that and I am not sure how they calculate the number. All I know is you are way way off."
That is completely BS and my pay does add up. Maybe they don't know how to count, add or subtract. I’ve contacted them twice; the first time I contacted SoFi (after the loan was decline), customer service put me on hold, then they hung up after 30 min. The second time I contacted it, I was put on hold for 30 minutes - I finally decided it was wasted effort. Prior to this loan application, I HAD a FICO Score of 761, which may be impacted by the hard credit pulled by Sofi.
I could've easily received a loan approval from other lenders but decided to go with SoFi based on the low interest rate advertise. However, feel the company has misled me and many others. I'm curious if it's profiting off the information (PII) it's collecting from all its applicants. Their loan advertisement is enticing. Unfortunately everything SoFi promises in their advertisements does not happen as promised. I did my research carefully and made my comparisons with other lenders; SoFi came out as my #1 choice. Based on their requirements, I uploaded all docs successfully. Then they proceeded with the hard inquiry of my credit. They took their sweet three weeks’ time and came back to tell me it's declined because they were unable to verify information provided. Ok, tell me what went wrong in the process of verification so I can help facilitate that. The response I kept getting from the customer services and later from the manager is that they used third party verification to decline my application. But I was never given a chance to rectify the problem with the verification issue.
It's very frustrating to get declined especially when all initial impression given looked and sounded promising, come out in the end with hard inquiry in my credit that stays in the history for two years impacting negatively. Getting declined for the right reasons is one thing but getting declined for the wrong reasons does not only leave a bad taste in the mouth but hurts the credit score. Either SoFi needs to take the reviews and fix their broken process of qualifying customers or continue to live with the consequences of negative reviews.

First, I would really like to start off with saying, if there is anyone that is not sure if they should trust the reviews you are reading, I'm here to tell you, yes, you should trust them. When I was looking for a company to get a personal loan, I read the reviews and I kept telling myself, this company has a great approval %, and maybe the customer is just unhappy. As a business owner myself for 13 years, I know you can't please everyone and I have had customers upset write reviews on my business as well.
So, I decided to give them a try and almost exactly what some of the reviews said happened to them, happened to me. They received 2 years of tax information, knew then what my net income and continued to ask for more documents. They did and will run your credit and now there is a hard inquiry on my credit and I was denied the loan because not on my credit, but on based on my net income, "it doesn't meet their requirements". Interesting because, before running my credit, they knew my income and yet they still ran my credit and still asked for more documents. I guess the frustrating part for me is, on my credit I have never been late, all my bills are paid on time and this loan was to consolidate my bills to save on interest. If I'm able to pay them on time with the net income I currently have, why when I consolidate them with the loan I'm requesting would I not be able to pay that bill.
At one time I had 3 car loans on my credit and all paid on time. Yes, am I upset, absolutely. Is it because I didn't get the loan, sure it is always upsetting when you have good credit to get denied a loan, but no, the bigger reason I am upset is that they ran my credit when they already knew my income. Now it's a dig on my credit which brings my credit score down so not sure if when I do try for another loan in the future it will affect it. Please just really read the reviews, take all of them into account before making a decision to go with this company. Also, maybe try with a bank first, they really do seem more personal and willing to work with you, more than this company.
