We bought a 2017 XC90. The vehicle has critical engine failure at 73000 miles. We owe 23000 and it will take $10000-$15000 to fix it. Even then it is not guaranteed to be fixed. I WILL NEVER OWN A VOLVO AGAIN. This company is terrible and offered no help or care.

I bought my 2019 XC90 2 yrs ago as pre-owned certified, in month one 30 days after purchase I noticed AC no longer cooled off. Brought it back to Volvo of San Antonio where they allegedly replaced leaking compressor. 30 days later AC was out again, Volvo would not warranty their work and new bill was $4,500. 4 months later AC is out again with same issue that compressor is leaking? Another $4,500. This car was sold under false pretense as a "certified Pre-Owned" the car has been a mechanical nightmare and in operable for over a year of the 2 yrs I have owned it. I went out and bought a Rivian instead which is light years ahead of Volvo in tech and SERVICE. I work for an auto dealer and what Volvo is putting me through is un heard of.
Volvo corporate put a case in and even after they see service records that is was pre-owned certified and work was no completed or warrantied all they have offered me is a 20% off coupon?? After 3 visits for full AC compressor failure. It's a joke that a company like this disregards their build, craftsmanship, and failing tech components to their customers. The Volvo XC90 has now just been sitting for months without AC. BE WARNED THIS IS A VERY POORLY MADE VEHICLE, visit any Volvo dealer and go to service side it is a line of XC90's. with no resolve from Volvo we are left to look into legal action next. We live in Austin TX where Summer is 95-100.

We needed help with charging our XC-40 at a Tesla Supercharger. The Volvo helpline had no idea how to do this. We spoke with the Volvo representative for approximately one hour and she kept reading the same instructions over and over but it was not working. I thought we may need to use the Tesla app and she said we would need to call Tesla for that because she didn’t know anything about that. I asked if she could escalate our concern because we were in 100 degree heat and needed to charge our car. She said she couldn’t transfer our call and to call back in and maybe someone else would know what to do.
We called back in and the second representative did not know what to do either. She said she would create a ticket and they would contact us in 3-5 days or could take the car back to the dealership. She could also help us by ordering a tow truck. We were able to get home but we are astonished at the lack of Volvo support and knowledge.

The electrical system is JUNK! In the 2 years I’ve had my new car, the electrical has been a glitchy mess. Heat doesn’t work, sound system works about 75% of the time, cameras work when they’re in the mood, engine lights go off while I’m driving, which makes me panic even though nothing ends up being wrong— just another glitch, oh well! Customer service is even worse. They never have loaner vehicles so I have to get rental cars. The only repairs they do is “updating software” but it never solves the problem. Why does my car have to break for me to find out from Volvo that there are updates? Shouldn’t I be informed BEFORE I find myself in a malfunctioning car in the middle of the Arizona desert with my daughter? Could not hate this car or the customer service more.

I purchased a 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge in January 2023 for over $70,000, expecting the premium quality and reliability Volvo promises. Instead, this vehicle has been a relentless source of frustration, riddled with persistent issues that have made ownership a nightmare. Within just two weeks, the check engine light flared up, forcing an early shop visit. The problem resurfaced in July 2023, leaving the car sidelined for a week. Over the next 18 months, the infotainment system became a constant headache—audio outages, malfunctioning parking sensors and cameras, and lost data connectivity forced me to waste hours on online troubleshooting to avoid repeated dealer trips.
The situation escalated in February 2025 when a critical engine failure triggered "turtle mode," crippling the vehicle to a 45 mph crawl. This required a grueling three-week repair. Barely six weeks later, in May 2025, the charging cable became stuck, rendering the car completely inoperable. This fiasco demanded a tow, caused a 30-minute delay to work, and led to another two weeks in the shop. In under 2.5 years, this $70,000 vehicle has been out of service for a staggering six weeks.
Despite escalating these issues to Volvo corporate, I received nothing but dismissive responses and zero meaningful resolution. Volvo’s utter failure to stand behind their product reveals a brand that prioritizes profits over customers. The XC60 Recharge is not just unreliable—it’s a betrayal of trust, delivering endless breakdowns and stress instead of the luxury it promises. Choosing Volvo means risking your money, time, and peace of mind on a company that abandons you when things go wrong. Save yourself the regret: do NOT buy from Volvo.

Lease November 2024. The remote starter was the first sign things were not going well. I could remote start the car, but had to switch it off and wait before being able to re-start the car and drive away. The Infotainment system constantly resets itself, often when driving. The infotainment system never displays the same information when unlocking the doors, it choses radio, service information, GPS map. The radio cut in and out, on various radio stations. The radio doesn't resume play after being parked overnight
The Apple Car play cuts in and out, saying it is not connected when it is. The App says that the tailgate and windows are open when they are not. The door mirror controls frizzed out, blinking rapidly, at the same time for no good reason. Tailgate kick opening, slow to respond, if it does at all. Side sensors not always responsive. The rear door child lock, self activates - wonder if it also self deactivates.
Started the car, told the camera was not working. Provided Video and photographic evidence of these issues. Volvo's solution - Keep taking the car back to the dealer for repair, despite being told that the issues are not constant, and do not always present when the car is in the repair shop. Reiterated several times, I just want a working car, not out of the lease. BUY WITH CAUTION

I recently traded in my BMW 540i and bmw x3 for a 2025 Volvo xc90 and 2023 volvo xc60. I really love the vehicles look and ride but have been sadly disappointed in several things. 1) Infotainment Center is very weak. Touch screen is not accurate, meaning, often I'll touch one icon but a different program is launched. The system freezes at times and I'm forced to reboot which takes a few minutes; this can be bad if you're navigating in busy traffic and need directions, but it has happened to me a few times already and I've only had my cars about 6 months. 2) Lane warning assist (light in side mirror) - this feature is loved, when it works.
Recently took road trip for about 500 miles. While on interstate, the light would illuminate as expected when a car would approach from either side, however, there were times when the light would stay on long after the object was gone. Matter of fact, the light stayed on more than it stayed off. This was not cool and the only way I found to get it working correctly again was to park, turn car off and back on. This seem to reset something and the light would work as intended for a while.
3) Auto braking feature - this is a good feature to have in theory, but with both vehicles, this is a violent stop at best. I hate it. When I first experienced it, I was certain I had hit something and parked the car and searched all over for the damage - there was none. The car aggressively throws the car in park and it feels like you've hit a wall. You can disable it when in reverse, but it's only good until the car is restarted. Did I mention I hate this feature? So, I'll stop here because I can go on and on. I am a life-long bmw owner but in my city, the only bmw dealership is less to be desired so I made the decision to try something different. Volvo was the answer. I'm very impressed with the vehicle, but the things I've mentioned are greatly underwhelming.

I leased a 2023 Volvo S60 and it has been an absolute nightmare of a vehicle to own for the last ~2 years. It’s been in the shop for 50 days and counting cumulatively since I got it and it’s always major tech issues. My center screen goes black (no HVAC controls, audio, cameras, maps, calls, etc), I lose complete audio in the car (no turn signal sounds, sensor sounds, radio, calls, etc), my sunroof has been replaced twice, the list literally goes on. I am trying to have the dealership buy my car back and their corporate team is not allowing me to do so. Every loaner vehicle I have been given when my car is in for service has had issues as well. I wouldn’t recommend this brand to anyone in the world.

Owner of a 2019 Volvo XC90. Enjoy the vehicle and have left positive reviews in the past. Recently the vehicle experienced an air compressor failure (cold weather) related to the air suspension (known issue by Volvo and they have extended the warranty). So what's the issue?? Karp Volvo in Rockville Centre, NY has has the vehicle for over 2 weeks and has not resolved the issue, nor will they provide and update. Service Manager promised a loaner, never followed through, and after multiple messages, will not return the call. Contacted Volvo of America several times with NO RESOLUTION! Lost all faith in Volvo. First and last Volvo.

I bougth a Volvo XC40 (leasing) in August 2023, but unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience. In July 2024, the car started to have recurring problems with the charger and sound systems. Went in for service at least 5 times. Last time they gave me a new charger and I haven't had any more problems with it. So, I imagined it… A few days later the car started asking for 3 types of maintenance. I took the car in thinking it would be a normal one-day maintenance. But the car was in service for 3 days. And I was once again left without the car.
I've already sent several emails to Volvo's customer service, I've tried to talk to them about the problem, but they say they'll get in touch and they never called me. A total disregard. Today I don't feel comfortable keeping the car, I am extremely disappointed and I would like to resolve this case directly with Volvo's internal process, without it costing me more time with other types of more bureaucratic processes. The service with the salespeople and service staff is good, they are attentive and kind, but they have no power to help me, as it is a matter of returning the car of a completely dissatisfied customer.

Their customer care department does NOT CARE. I recently reached out to them with a simple but apparently not to them. I lose my only key and need a blank key or info on authorized my ignition or something, and was told they could not help me. Are you kidding me. I'm not in the auto business but I know there is something that can be done in this situation. That's horrible, I'm selling the car for whatever I can get and done with Volvo after over 20 years.

I was happy with my car up until recently. I just finally got off the phone with a supervisor from the customer care team of Volvo, I’ve had my car for a little over 2 years. The infotainment system has gone out. I have 80k miles on it, almost all highway. It goes in and out. After reporting the issue, it took 2 weeks to actually speak to someone and get information on the situation. I was lied to about wait times to hear from someone, I was lied to about so many other things, and now I’m told that since I “have no loyalty to the brand” they won’t help me with my issue, which is a well known issue, the infotainment center controls the heat, and all safety features, they won’t help me.
I took my car 1 time for an oil change, when I was told I was out of warranty, to a valvoline, and now since they haven’t seen my car in 30k miles which is a lie they won’t help me. This is a 3.6k repair. For a car that year wise is very new, I am appalled by this customer service and the face decisions were “made” without even talking to me and just telling me too bad sorry is disgusting. I can assure you I will never get a Volvo again, nor will I ever recommend one in my lifetime.

I am a Swedish citizen. 2 years back moved to USA. I always had Volvo back in Sweden and a great experience with all Cars and on road service. Thinking the same service and quality I purchased a certified Volvo XC 90 2020 model from a Volvo dealer (North Point Volvo - Alpharetta, GA). First the car had problem with it is braking system, which I have to pay extra when I moved to Colorado. Now it 1.5 year and very difficult to get a on road service and spares.
Yesterday I was traveling from Canada to Colorado, on the way my car started having problem with acceleration, took to a certified service center. They could not identify the issue, and the part suggested was not available. When I called online support they could not provide a location where I can take my car which would have the parts. Luckily I took the car for a wash and car started working well. I drove from Billings to Aspen without any issue. Next morning my car battery is down and trying to get in touch with on road service, it is more than 2 hours they are not able to find someone for a jump start and there is not service store for 200 miles (350 kms). If I have to visit a service station it is drive of 8 hours and 700 kms. I suggest not to buy Volvo in USA with its bad service....

2016 XC60 Volvo. 50K miles. Serviced by dealer. Up to date services since I bought it new. Just paid $2900 for new injectors. Volvo says they were out over time. 8 yrs is normal. Will never buy volvo.

2022 Volvo XC 60 B6. The car failed twice within days of delivery. Kept opening and closing the doors repeatedly and discharged the battery. Confusing and illogical IT system. Poor head office service from Volvo Canada and dealers. Proximity sensor failed causing a collision. Volvo refused to honour warranty and told me to deal with my insurer. Worst car I have had in 50 years.

I own a 2022 XC60 (mild hybrid version) and over the past year, I had to have my car towed 4 times to Volvo service for the same issue. My battery does not seem to charge properly when I brake, and when it runs out of battery, red notification pops up stating "12V Critical Charging Fault. Stop slowly." The car essentially becomes undrivable, and it is quite dangerous to have this happen OVER AND OVER again.
The service team does absolutely NOTHING, except charge the battery until the battery runs out and I have to have my car towed back to service. I opened a case with Volvo a few times, but they are NOT DOING ANYTHING to cover for this fault, although this clearly falls under manufacturer warranty. Horrible service. Although Volvo makes great cars, I would not recommend getting one because there is basically no warranty. I will be looking to take legal action because the warranty is deceiving.

The p-parking button doesn’t always engage on my 2024 XC60 b5. It started the first week I had it. I normally reverse park in my driveway. I would have hit the garage but the reverse sensor engaged and stopped the car. I know I fully hit the parking button. This happened on a few more time. Well this weekend I forward parked the car. Hit the parking button but this time the car rolled into the garage causing 3800 worth of damage to the garage door. Car was fine but beeping sensors never went off it just rolled on its own. My elderly mom was in the car and she had no idea we even hit the garage. Wondering why no beeping or self stop didn’t engage. I hate this car because of it.
To top it off I went to trade it in yesterday and I can’t because Volvo has some stupid policy in their lease that you can only terminate your lease through them. Completely upset and wish I could sue these guys for damages to my door and mental anguish every time I drive it. I just want out and it only has 6600 miles. Completely let down by Volvo.

The car is great. I had a XC90. But the service.... My lease ended and I wanted to return the car. I called Volvo to ask about the process. And then I could go to any dealer and return it. I went to Bromnin. I was treated really bad. And they didn't take my car. Called Volvo again. And then I had to return to the dealer I bought the car. Called the dealer. They (Volvo North Miami) say I had to make an appointment with the salesperson who sold me the car (what?). I tried for 2 days to talk to this person... Left messages, called 6 time, sent WhatsApp. Nothing. Called Volvo again. They say there is nothing they can do. The certified dealer is an independent partner and they cannot force them to receive the car. I will go again today. And see what happens. Anyways, buy someplace else.

I have a 24 XC90. It's fantastic. Simple use inside, but up to date tech. Massage seats are wonderful. Car is well put together unlike my Tesla whose hood was crooked and the doors misaligned. Volvo went thru their struggles with their systems in 22. But don't let that timeframe decide for you now. These are wonderful cars. I now get to say that I am in a car that hasnt had a serious injury or death occur in ever.

Dear Sirs. I recently had a very bad experience with Volvo International who owns Volvo Cars, which I will explain. I generally like my Volvo CX60. It is a very good vehicle. I am traveling nationally from New York to the West Coast. I went to several service stations and was unable to have my car serviced, which is under warranty. I was informed that Volvo International will not honor the service agreement. Because of this, I must go to a service stations. I would recommend that no one buy a Volvo due to the fact that Volvo International does not honor the service agreement. It may be that they wish the owner of the vehicle not to be able to maintain them, and then buy them back because they cannot be repair them. Volvo International makes money the old fashioned way. They steal it from the customers.

I purchased a Volvo 2022 XC 60 in November of 2021. Everyone at Faulkner Volvo in Trevose PA was wonderful to work with, and the service team is always very helpful! I would highly recommend Faulkner if you are looking to purchase a Volvo. However, I just had a very frustrating experience with Volvo USA's customer service, and in looking up reviews, find that they are rated very low in customer satisfaction: "Volvo Cars Customer Service is rated at 1.6 out of 5. Consumers who contact the company are mostly dissatisfied. More commonly used way of contact is by phone. Source Distribution 76% phone 24% email."
I have not been able to get the updates over the air for my car since the first two releases in the beginning of 2022, which I was told would be the case when I purchased the car. I was also promised Apple Car Play, which took over a year to get installed on my car and still gives me trouble with overheating my I phone. I have had my car in twice for inspections at Faulkner and they updated my software each time. I really like their service team.
Recently, Volvo USA sent me an email and told me to take my car in to get the updates I was missing and that it should resolve the issue. So, I did just that and when I arrived I was told that it was not a covered service, even though my car is under warranty and it was impossible for me to get my updates over the air.
So I called Customer Service (not Faulkner) and they told me it is not covered and it doesn't matter that we sent you an email, it is your option to take it in. NO WHERE did it say that I would be responsible for the update. AND, since my updates, my car has had other issues that I haven't been able to resolve. They keep pushing out updates without working out all of the bugs, and then you are responsible financially to take care of getting them fixed.
This is my first Volvo and probably my last. I have owned other very reputable foreign cars, and they have always been so accommodating and helpful. If you are ok with being charged for everything, Volvo is a good car. I personally think there are many other great cars that would not charge you to fix THEIR errors. I asked to speak with someone in Consumer Affairs and was told that there is no one to speak to other than the Supervisor in Customer Service. Good Luck if you have any issues with your Volvo!

Purchased a 2017 xc90 from North Point Volvo, the truck has been a nightmare since day one, there are numerous issues I had with vehicle so I will only name a few. A/c had to be fixed twice, turbo charger super charger and high pressure fuel pump, now there's another issue that causing my truck to stall while driving. I most definitely would not recommend volvo cars at all.

I stopped April 9, 2024 at Gunther Volvo Daytona Beach, Florida to line up a full service for my 2023 XC 60 B5 Volvo. I spoke with Kevin **, assistant service manager. I also brought to his attention that my middle driver's side leather seat insert is wearing at a rapid pace, and showing signs also on passenger side, in which he took pictures to file with Volvo rep. I was told that a response would be within days. I wanted to line all up as I live 50 miles north of the dealership. A week passed, no results.
On April 17, I called Andrew ** Sales manager three times that day with messages to call me. He never returned my call. I also called Julio **, salesman that sold me the car the same day with no results. Later in the evening I called Volvo customer service in New Jersey and it was noted that I left several messages with no results. Finally the day after Julio called me and stated "let's put you in the Blue Volvo that you previous remarked about, to get you out of the situation along with a call from Andrew." I stated that no-one including the service dept never got back to me. I was told by Andrew that he would look into and get back to me. "Still Waiting."
What I find amazing is when I shopped for the Volvo, the team was all over me, showering me to close the sale. By the way I traded a 2020 Lincoln with 40k miles having leather seats and no issues, among 2017 E Class Mercedes with leather seats and no issues in the past. I grew up in the furniture industry and when a problem rises, we took care of our customer with a solution, not by avoiding the customer. I also have read lots of complaints of leather seating in Volvo ratings. It is now time for Volvo to step up to continue the path of repeat business of myself and future Volvo patrons. I am VERY disappointed in all actions of the Daytona dealership.

We bought our car Volvo XC40 brand new in 2024. We ordered it while in Canada and we picked it up in Brussels, Belgium where we moved to. It’s been the biggest disappointment ever. It feels like we are driving a go-cart. It makes so many cranking noises, super jerky, even with the dynamic steering on. It's extremely loud inside the car and we have the smallest smart screens I have seen in any new 2024 new vehicle. We bought this because of safety ratings but we definitely don’t feel safe in it. During the colder months, the windows are constantly fogging up. We have to keep the defrost on constantly and the sound of the air in the car is stupid loud. I would not recommend this car.

DO NOT BUY VOLVO. I am a owner of 2020 XC 90 V8 INSCRIPTION MODEL. Last year there was a coolant leak in my car. I took the car in for repairs; the repairs were over $2000 for a brand new car. The coating of tubes are made of soy products... ATTRACTED TO RODENTS. Once again, my car had the same issue. It went to the dealership... AGAIN FOR THE SAME REASON. I have filed a complaint with Volvo USA. Waiting for action. If I were given a choice to buy a new car, I would definitely go back to LEXUS. DO NOT BUY VOLVO.

I have owned a S90 T6 Inscription since 2018 and all I can say is buyer beware. Significant quality issues that Volvo refuses to address, from the dashboard leather delaminating for no reason, to the locks freezing up every winter, countless infotainment system bugs, and numerous false alerts. This is not what I thought I was buying.

Well, there's just no doubt we could have all died. Not that Courtesy Volvo Cars of Scottsdale gives a damn. One of their "mechanics" over-inflated the tires on our XC60 to 60 psi. Predictably, this caused a major blowout -- while we were driving west between Phoenix and Los Angeles on Interstate 10, in the middle of nowhere, miles and miles and too many hours from a tow truck. For the record, Volvo recommends the tires be inflated to 35 psi. The tire maker itself recommends filling its tires to no more than 51 psi. An overinflated tire is just as dangerous as an underinflated one.
Here's what Firestone (the tire company) says about it:
"Most seriously, overinflated tires are at greater risk for a blowout. A tire blowout can cause you to lose control of your vehicle and negatively affect braking distance, endangering yourself and others on the road. Additionally, many of the safety features on your vehicle, like your anti-lock braking system, are designed to work when tires are filled to the vehicle manufacturer recommendations. Overinflated tires could compromise some of your car’s driver assistance functions."
Wow, right? In our case, the blowout of the driver's side front tire didn't trash just the tire. It caused damage to the driver's side front panel. (There were three of us in the car at the time and, yeah, it was more than unsettling). According to Courtesy Volvo, repairs would cost about $3,400. And no, they were definitely not interested in covering any part of that cost -- although at first they told us they'd buy a replacement tire. But, after all, we were told, there was no way for them to know that we hadn't gone out and overinflated our own tires after they had serviced the car.
Oh, and the tire shop in Indio, Calif., that checked the pressure on the rest of our tires and found they, too, had been overinflated? Well, as Courtesy's service manager told us, who knows what kind of air-pressure gauge they were using?? Heck, he said, it could have been one of those old-fashioned, "unreliable" ones that look like pencils -- the ones your Dad and his Dad used without a problem for decades.
To us, this case illustrates a few nasty things: Negligence, incompetence, an uncaring corporation, disregard of anything but its own bottom line, and an absolute unwillingness to accept responsibility or accountability. Do business with these jokers at your own peril. We're taking our case to Volvo U.S.A. and will let you know. P.S.: We still love our Volvo, just not the people servicing them at this particular dealership.

Utmost, I was lied to by an agent of the Dealership. I have been a 32 year customer of Volvo and this Dealership. It changed hands a few years ago and the owner is out to make money, forget about the Customer. This vehicle is NOT worth anything, terrible charging performance, Google operation, vent flow, seat operation, locking accessibility, speed limit reading, side mirror return direction, etc. and most of all No Customer Service Astorg Auto Volvo Charleston, WV. This will be the LAST Volvo we ever purchase, how sad.

I purchased this car new expecting it to be the most dependable car on the market. I’ve had the car for about 5 months and it’s been back in the dealer's service twice and is going back again for the same problems. Computer system doesn’t always work and neither do the breaks. They can’t figure out why this is happening. I’m ready to give them the car back and purchase a different auto. Anyone else having these problems?

I do not recommend leasing with Volvo Financial. You can only trade in your lease at a Volvo dealership for a new Volvo. I had equity in my XC90 but could not trade at another dealership. I had to buy the lease and pay sales tax on the vehicle. I recommend using a more reasonable leasing company.
