Advance Auto Parts Strike Force Air Compressors Recalled

'Strike Force' Portable Air Compressors sold by Advance Auto Parts stores are being recalled.

The compressor's motor can overheat and ignite the protective cover, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Also, the cover might not prevent internal components from being touched, which poses an electrical shock hazard.

The firm has received four reports of fires. No injuries have been reported.

The recall involves the 4.6 gallon, 3.5 HP Strike Force brand portable air compressor and includes the model and serial numbers shown.

The compressor has twin air tanks that are black-colored. The model and serial numbers are located on the compressor's housing.

The units were sold at Advance Auto Parts stores nationwide and online at www.partsamerica.com from October 2006 through December 2007 for about $90. They were made in China.

Consumers should stop using the air compressor immediately and return it to any Advance Auto Parts store for a full refund.

The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
