A class action lawsuit against Mattel seeks to force the toymaker to pay for medical tests for children who played with lead-contaminated Mattel toys.
"We're not going to allow unsafe products to reach American consumers especially when it's lead painted toys reaching our children," said Jeffrey Killino, the Philadelphia attorney who filed the suit.
The lawsuit was filed in California, where Mattel is based.
Mattel last week recalled millions of Chinese-made toys, including the "Sarge" jeep from the hit movie "Cars," because the toys' paint may contain high levels of lead.
"Parents need peace of mind to know that if their child came in contact with these toys that someone's going to test them," Killino said.
Killino said American companies must take responsibility for the toys they sell, no matter where they're made.
He previously filed suit in a case involving defective Chinese-made tires that were blamed for a deadly crash.
