I used Sears Credit Card to make a very large appliance purchase. Sales rep indicates at the time to take advantage of the 12-month zero interest rate to payoff. OK, I said it's the only item on the card. I have excellent credit. Why not? The appliance also was priced high and no real bargain. After the 12-month period, I was left with a very small balance left of $90 on the account. Sears hits the card with a $419 interest charge. I called up and ask why. They said it's because you didn't pay the item up in full by the 12th month, so they accrued back $419 interest at 24.7%. I argued that user rates. They said, "You should have read the last monthly statement and been aware of the consequences of the agreement." I said, "Where in the bill was the notice?" The rude customer rep said, "On the 2nd page print. It's your obligation to read the bill fully each month." I said, "It was the sales rep's responsibility to explain the offer fully." Who reads the fine print each month on a bill I do auto banking payment?
On the 13th, I expected to pay the higher % on the outstanding balance and pay it off in full that month. Not Sears. They back in the full term of interest at 24.7% usury rates. I asked the rep, "Do you think this is good business practice with their better, on-time paying customers?" Response was, "That's the way it is and we do business." So buyer beware of Sears tactics. After 35 years shopping at Sears, they can close the account, take their credit card/promotions and shove it. Worst shady retailer for customer service with the nastiest CS staff.

I had a payment due on June 1. My bank processed the payment on June 4. I received calls on the 5th and the 6th of June saying that I was past due, but after checking my online account with Wells Fargo and verifying that the payment was processed on June 4th, I then relayed this to Customer Service. They insisted it had not been paid. While on vacation in Florida, I received a credit report alert that on 6/6/13, something derogatory was on my report. (I live in South Carolina so we have monitoring because of a security breech). I have documentation of the 6/4/13 payment.

I purchased something from Sears in January. I didn't have my credit card on me so they looked me up through my license and charged my Sears Card. I received a bill in the mail. I paid the bill through my online Banking system. I then received a bill with a credit of the amount that I paid. I was confused... until I received a second bill two months later with late fees and the original payment due. I looked at the bill and realized that it was a different credit card number than what I had in my system. I didn't realize I had two cards for Sears. Why would they do that? Maybe when I gave them my license in January, they opened an account for me that I did not know about.
So, I called Sears on 4/3/13 and talked with a customer service rep **. She couldn't get in touch with anyone so she said they would get back to me. They did. I received a letter indicating that they would not credit my account because the late fee is valid. So then I mailed them a letter and indicated the situation again and that I was unaware that there was another card in my name out there and that I was closing my account. I received a letter back (so yes, they acknowledged that I sent them a letter) indicating that my account was closed but did not indicate anything about the enormous late fees they have been adding.
My original bill was $30 in Jan./Feb. Now the bill that was due on 5/13/13 is up to $189.84. I refuse to pay this amount in late fees. Now remember I said I paid the bill in March of $30. Well, they sent me a check back for that because they charged an account I didn't know of. I am willing to pay the $30 once again but I will not pay late fees on a credit card I did not know I had.

I have had a Sears credit card for many years. Although I have not used it much, I made a purchase in January 2013. The middle of February I called Sears credit because I had not received a bill. Speaking with customer service, they said my payment was late. I explained the situation and they admitted it was their error and waived the $35 late fee. I immediately made the $430 payment by phone. Fast forward to the end of April. I went to refinance the house and my credit score has gone down 60 points because Sears (Capital One credit) reported me being delinquent. I called customer service and they stated I could send a letter with my SS number and they would look at it. I told them absolutely not and demanded to speak to a supervisor.
They put me on with a supervisor from North Carolina named Sue. After 30 minutes on the phone, she again admitted it was their mistake and told me it would be removed from my credit report and apologized for the mix-up. Then 5 days later, I got a letter in the mail stating it was not their fault and they would not remove it from the credit report! On the phone with customer service again and transferred to a so-called supervisor named Vinny from North Carolina. He told me that's the way it is and that's that. I informed him that on two previous calls they admitted it was their error. His words were, "Oh well, I guess they were wrong!"
So for being 8 days late on a bill I never received, my credit takes a big hit. Way to go Sears and Capital One. Great way to treat a loyal customer who has never been late on a payment and has always kept a zero balance. Time to talk to an attorney.

Approximately two months ago, I opened a Sears credit account while checking out my local Sears store. I received the card in the mail and began to use it for purchases including a recent purchase to an online merchant. When I received my statement, I noticed a Foreign Purchase Transaction Fee and was quite confused as I hadn't traveled outside the country. As it turns out, this fee was charged because of the purchase I made to the above online merchant. I asked Carlos, the customer service agent to I spoke with, if it would be possible to waive the $5.37 fee given that there was no way I would have known that company's banking was done in a foreign country.
They maintain a US 800 number for inquiries and everything is written in English. He denied my request and after speaking with supervisor Ashley in North Carolina, employee **, she also denied my request even knowing that I was very dissatisfied and on the verge of closing my credit line. Any company that is so uninterested in serving their customer that they're willing to lose them over $5.37 is a company that I do not want to do business with. My account is closed and I have paid my balance in full.
While I fully understand your policies on foreign transactions, had Ashley or Carlos been willing to waive the $5.37 fee, I would have gladly maintained this credit card in my wallet for domestic purchases. But because of their arrogance and unwillingness to remove such a trivial amount, you've lost me as a customer for good. I know this is not how Sears operates and if this an isolated case, I am writing you here to give you one final opportunity to explain/redeem yourself as a company or lose me as a customer for good.

I pay my balance in full each and every time I have ever used this card. I have had the card since 1974. I made my March 2013 payment. Sears/Citi received the payment. I have the canceled check. Sears/Citi never posted the payment. When I used the card again, the charge was declined. That’s when I found out the payment had never been posted. I call... Sears/Citi says they have not been paid. I say, “Sure, you have.” They say, “Nope, we haven't.” I say, "Yes you have," as I have the canceled check. Sears/Citi then says, “OK. Prove it. Send us the copies of the cancelled check, front and back, then send us copies of your bank statement to prove the payment was deducted, and send us a letter telling us what happened, then maybe we can find the payment you made to us.” They still haven't credited my payment.

I have had a card with Sears since 1996. They switched us over to Sears/Citibank at some point. I never really paid attention when they did. I was never late on a payment since 1996. In November or December of 2012, my daughter used my credit card to go to McDonalds and purchased lunch for both of us. I thought she had taken my Capital One (who by the way are great). In January I started to get calls from Citibank and deleted the messages as I thought it was someone with "offers" (I must say they say I got bills, which I may have but would have thrown away thinking they were offers). Once I listened to a full message, I realized my error and immediately called the pay by phone to pay. I went through all the motions, and at the end of the call, the payment was rejected as I paid the $7 and some odd cents and they did not take the "cents". So I went through the process again and paid the $8 and hung up.
Later on that month I got another bill with the $7 plus, now $9 something. I called them and explained and they took the fee away and cleared out the bill. I was in the process of buying property and they turned me into the credit reporting companies as delinquent. I spoke to my banker. He laughed over the $7 being reported and told me that this happened and that all I had to do was call them, explain to customer service, and they could send him a letter acknowledging the payment and the error. I called them and spoke to a young guy who stated they could do that. If there was an issue, he would have a supervisor call back as they were all really busy. I waited a week and never got the letter in the mail and it was never faxed to my banker as promised. This dropped my rating about 100 points! I no longer would qualify.
I called back and spoke to someone in India (I think). I got transferred back to someone in Iowa (I think if I remember correctly) by the name of Loretta, who was completely unhelpful and unsympathetic to my issue or needs and told me that I need to wait for a letter from them and return it and they will consider my request! I mean on what planet is she?! I needed this resolved two weeks earlier and she gives me this option. I lost the property. I checked to see if this has been resolved in March as I found another property. My banker ran my credit report and found it was not rectified and they did not assist. I called back today... same stuff, different day!
At this time I am going directly to Sears. I will not use their credit card ever - if Sears (who I have sent request through their website for a call) does not assist me, I will never walk into their store again. (Sears used to have own credit cards and then switched us without our knowledge until the card came.) I am tired of customer service lines that keep you on hold and do nothing for you but piss you off more. Why are they called customer service when they do nothing? Are they trained to aggravate us or is it just stupidity? I can understand that the first tier of customer service reps have only certain amount of authorization, but when it moves to a supervisor that is no more helpful than a computer and has the same sympathy as a computer, I have to say, "Why bother having a customer service department? Just tell us upfront to go 'f' ourselves if we have a problem. It would save us a lot of time and at least we know what we got!"

I paid on my Sears account faithfully until I could no longer work. I called Sears and agreed to a payment plan but after 2 yrs., I had to stop paying. I am now paying what I can afford to pay with no job. I have been making $40 for 2.5 years but this month, my payment has been returned, not once but twice. I have called to get a mailing address only to be given 4 different addresses. I am trying to pay on my bill. I know I owe this but this is getting ridiculous with them sending my letter back marked "address unknown."

I had a Sears credit card for 51 years. Sometime in the past, Sears contracted Citi to handle their credit card activity. I just got a notice that I was overdue $64.29 and an overdue fee of $27.00 has been tacked onto the bill. I never received the bill for $64.29. Lost in the mail? I live in a large apartment complex and mail goes awry all the time.
I tried to use the email complaint method. It just does not work. This is done on purpose, it appears. After many attempts, I got a person. He said sorry about the circumstances, but that I need to pay the full balance now. Meanwhile, the card is being declined when I try to use it. This is a bit rough. And then I find out that this is the way Citi operates. I hate regulation, but given the complaints that Citi has generated, I fear that government regulation is necessary. Not really Sears’ fault. It is the predatory way Citi operates. So the card is history. Yes, I paid the full balance immediately. Now, I have to be extra careful that a bill of any kind doesn't get lost in the mail. How do I do that?

I open a Sears card because I recently moved and was going to purchase several appliances. I chose Sears for their offers on deferred interest and discounts. I make it a priority to pay off my debt before interest kicks in because Sears APR % is ridiculously high. While checking my account, I realized that I was being charged interests for an item I purchased on an offer and had 6 months to pay. I searched around for similar stories before contacting them to be sure on what to do.
I got a little scared reading all the scams and tricky maneuvering Sears was doing to charge extra money. I contacted them via email from my account questioning the charges. To my surprise, I got a speedy reply and all was taken care of in two days. My interest was refunded, and they apologized. I can’t complain about their customer service. They have been good to me. But imagine what would have happened if I didn't actively check the amount as I always paid the same amount each month. They're very tricky and their penalties are huge! So be careful and monitor things closely.

I have been a Sears cardholder, in good standing, since 1989. I have never had a late payment and always pay more than the minimum amount due. On 01/31/2012, I made cash payment of $274.75 towards my bill, which was due on 02/02/2013. On 02/04/13, I was checking my account online and discovered the payment had not applied and a late fee of $25.00 was charged on my account. On 02/05/13, I called the credit department and spoke to supervisor Katie. Katie told me that she is unable to reverse the fees as the payment has not been received. I provided her with the sales check number I was given as proof of payment. She said although it shows a payment was in fact made before the due date, it never posted to the account and they would have to investigate the reason. She said this investigation could take up to 30 days to be completed.
On 02/09/2013, I drove 96 miles each way back to the Laguna Hills store and spoke to Faduan, who claimed to be the store manager on duty. According to Sears customer service, she is the lead sales associate, but apparently decided to pose as the manager for the day! She had me wait around for over a half hour while she checked to see what the problem might be. She finally told me everything was taken care of and the credit would be posted the following day! It was not. I called back again on 02/15/2013 and spoke to another "acting manager," who identified himself as George. He said he did not know why the matter was not resolved, but he would look into it and call me back the following day. I never received a call back from him and when I called back, I was told one lie after another and the problem was still not resolved.
I then filed a complaint with Sears customer service. Again, I was told they had no explanation as to why the money taken in was not credited to my account and promised to resolve the issue. On 02/20/2013, I received a call from Laguna Hills store manager Rory **, who had not returned my calls despite the 4 messages I had left for him with his "managers" Faduna and George. He only returned my call after receiving a call from the corporate office directing him to contact me. He apologized for the inconvenience and told me his employee and store had credited the account correctly. It is Citibank's fault that the credit was not posted to date! He told me I would have to contact Citibank, which issues Sears credit cards, and dispute the account or drive back to the store which is 96 miles away from where I live each way to resolve the matter or to any other store and ask for assistance!
The man did not seem to grasp this concept that it was his store and his employee that I had handed $274.75 in cash and not Citibank or another Sears store! I expected him to solve the problem and not pass me to someone else to deal with. He claimed that he would not be able to access my account without my presence at the store. I called the phone number to Sears credit that evening and was told by a very rude customer service supervisor, Jason, that the problem had been corrected and the cash payment made at the store 21 days earlier was finally posted to the account. When I asked for an explanation as to what the delay was, he told me "not to get a head full of steam" and be happy the matter was resolved as that "is good news, isn't it?"
I wasn't looking for good news! I wanted to know what the heck had happened to the payment for 21 days. I had to call back numerous times just to be lied to and passed from one entity to another as the Sears store blamed the credit department for not posting it correctly and the credit department said it is Sears store for not processing it correctly. In the meantime, $274.75 was just floating lost in space between these two complete moronic departments! No one was willing to take responsibility and it is very clear to me that honesty, integrity and customer service is very low on the priority list for Sears. Cheating the customers obviously ranks very high on their list. No wonder the corporation is going to hell in a hand basket.
I look forward to the day that Sears is finally out of business and all those incompetent buffoons they call employees and management are unemployed. I wonder if the executives at Sears realize that if people don't shop at their stores, they will not receive their fat paychecks and if they continue to mistreat, disrespect and cheat customers the way they did me, soon they'll have no customers left! I wonder if they have ever heard of Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target. Better prices, better products and without a doubt, better customer care and service.

I have had a Sears MasterCard for the past 5 years (since 2008) with the available credit limit of $8000. I'm 25 years old and have been working in getting my credit up. I receive monthly credit reports and today when I opened it, it showed my overall credit utilization was up to 54% on all credit cards. What?! It was 22% last month. I called Sears and because I had a $0 balance on my MasterCard for 24 months, they reduced my available credit from $8k to $2k without telling me! That $6k was half of my overall credit available for all my credit cards which screwed my credit score.
I called and spoke with one person who transferred me to an account specialist. They said they would apply to get my limit back up but surprise, surprise, I was denied because they had just dismantled my credit score! So now, because they took away $6k of my credit availability without telling me because they are greedy **. My credit is awful and I can't even get my line of credit back because my credit is bad. I have at one time had a $5000 balance on that card and worked really hard to get it back to $0. It's ** and this company is terrible. I hate Sears MasterCard. Do not ever get one.

On Feb.11th 2013, my account was closed due to a credit review from Equifax. I understand that companies reserve the right to cancel an account at their leisure, but what was upsetting was that they terminated my accumulated rewards points (19,100!) as well. I spoke to a manager about the situation & his response was that the rewards program was free for me to use at my discretion but once the account is closed, all accumulated points are forfeited! It was sneaky how they did it. I didn't even know my account was closed until I tried to use it. I feel that those points were earned by making purchases with the card. So, what happened to Sears? When I was a kid, my father had a Sears account and used this account to buy us kids clothing and toys for Christmas. I remember having hard times and was not able to purchase things. During the hard times, Sears extended credit to their customers as they boasted that they were a family store. My father swore by Sears and how as long as you were a good customer and paid your bills, as good as you can, you, the customer, would always be a part of the Sears family. So, again, what happened to Sears?
I had a Sears credit account and I am a good customer. I always paid my bills and had paid the account up to practically nothing. I used my card again then while faithfully paying my monthly payment and more than once paid over the monthly amount. I have an online account to monitor my payments and make payment through that system. I noticed that I have a balance and I have credit on the account, but then noticed that even though I have $245.67 credit on that account, it showed that I have a zero available for purchase? I really didn’t realize what was happening. Since I work out of town and come home on weekends, it took me about a week to check my mail at home and I found no notice from Sears about my account. I called Sears’ customer service and had got an associate who stated that my account was closed? I asked why my account was closed as I have been paying my account religiously and I was in the positive, even though it showed I couldn’t purchase anything. I also stated that I did not close the account.
It sounded like the associate was reading from a script stating that due to my credit score being low, they closed my account. I was livid. I was so upset I asked the associate credit score? What do you mean credit score? I just bought my house and that takes a lot off the credit score. They said that there were some derogatory entries on the score also. So based on the credit score report, Sears decided to terminate my account. I stated I wanted to talk to a manager as the associate continued to repeat the reasons, again as if he was reading a script.
I talked to a person who the associate introduced as a supervisor, and I asked the person if he was really a supervisor as I have come across associates acting like supervisors. This person said he was a supervisor, so I asked for his name so I can verify his position. He then told me that he was an acting supervisor since his supervisor was out for the holidays. He also gave me the same excuse as to why Sears had terminated my account. I then asked, “Does the credit scoring department dictate who Sears has as their customers? Do they dictate whose credit cards are terminated due to their credit score? If so, do they have stock in Sears to have that pull?”
I would like to know when did Sears turn into a non-customer non-Sears family orientated store, especially when the holiday season is among us, when our economy is in a slump, Sears would do this to good paying customers? That is not good business; that is not what Sears is all about (depending on credit scores to terminate good paying customers).

They asked for my credit card number and I told them I didn't have it at the time. She then asked for the last four digits of my Social and I gave them to her with my address. She then asked for my birth date and I gave my month and day. She wanted the year and I told her I just wanted to give my confirmation that I had paid my bill and I tried to give her the number.
She asked again for my birth year which started to upset me after spending all that time giving her my Social, address, phone and month and day of my birth. I was not trying to change anything with my account. They called me. I just wanted to provide my confirmation number to prove that I paid so they would not call my house harassing me about a payment. Last year I purchased a few items on credit with deferred interest and paid everything on time, month after month. On September 4th, 2012, I spoke to them to pay my monthly $31 minimum payment and authorized the payment. They never mentioned that my deferred interest promotion was actually expiring that day and thus did not offer me the chance to pay the balance in full instead of incurring interest charges. Instead, they automatically deducted from my account $332 the following month (without my authorization), which was today. This is 33% of the total value I owe! I called them to please have them waive the fee so I could pay the total balance in full and they refused to work with me, after having been a great customer for years. In fact, they did not even meet me halfway. Nothing. They were adamant about getting the $332 deferred interest.
I can honestly say this was a huge moment of truth for me, a disappointment in the trust and delivery of the salesperson and company as a whole. Any company who truly values its relationship with a consumer would have waived this fee in order to keep the consumer (and in return, get a balance paid in full where they can make interest on the cash flow!). Business-wise, it would have even made sense for them! So disappointed with Sears. It shows their true colors.

I immediately began receiving bills for payments and when I contacted Sears credit, they told me that the warranty that I had purchased was not on a no interest/no payment plan. So, I paid the warranty in full. Then, I continued to get bills for payments and I sent a dispute to the Sears credit card company and never heard back from them. So, I mistakenly figured that they had honored the agreement that was advertised.
A year later, I tried to buy a house and my mortgage broker told me that Sears had reported me to the credit bureau, that I had a charge of $800 I needed to pay. I went to the Sears store and tried to get them to help me. The store manager said he would meet with me. Then, he made me wait over an hour to meet with him and then all he did was take my documentation and said he would talk to Sears Legal and get back to me which he never did. Another sales manager was able to contact Sears Credit department for me and said that a promotion was advertised for 24 months no payments/no interest. Meanwhile, during all this hassle to get my credit report straightened out, I missed out on locking into a good interest rate, so a year later, I had to refinance and pay closing costs again. I refuse to shop at a Sear or Kmart any longer. They have lost a good loyal customer.
I filed a complaint about Sears with the Attorney General of Kansas and the case was dropped because Sears did not reply to my complaint in the specified amount of time. I had some email communication with Sears Legal who informed me to send a letter to the CEO; they could not help me. I was bugged again and again by the sales representatives of one of the Sears Stores until they convinced me to apply for a Sears Citi Card. I received a statement sometime towards the end of May of the outstanding charges which was $63.52 and the payment due date was 6/4/2012. I duly used my online account to pay the due amount on 4th June, sometime in the afternoon. Once I made the payment, I received a confirmation that there was zero balance on the account.
Since then I never received any communication from them, until today where I was shocked to receive a letter from them mentioning that I have a past due of 91 dollars. I called the accounts department and they mentioned that the payment of $63.52 was not processed on time because of some delay from their end and it was counted as late payment. The late payment charge on the 1st month was 29 dollars and they just kept on adding it on a monthly basis without alerting me, until today when I got a letter that the total due is 91 dollars. So although I made the payment on time, they applied some fraudulent means and kept on falsely charging my account. I tried my best to convince them by talking to their customer care representatives, but it looked like they were prepared to harass me. It's a disgusting experience. I request everyone to stay away from Sears Citi Card. They are fraudsters.

My bank and I were accused of fraud. I paid my Sears credit card bill by check. The check cleared my bank and I had the cancelled check in my possession. One month later, I received a bill from Sears showing an outstanding balance on the item I had paid for. One of their representatives verbally claimed that I had stopped payment on the check one month after it had cleared my bank. Sears credit card was mailed a copy of the cancelled check by me and subsequently faxed a copy of the cancelled check from my bank by one of the bank officers. Sears credit card put nothing in writing. All discussions were by phone. Only when I sent them a copy of my bank statement showing the transaction did they finally accept the fact that payment had been made appropriately and as demonstrated.
They made an error and were too lazy to do their own work to find their mistake. They claimed it was too much work to go through their records. I have had no similar problem with other credit cards. I am sorry so many other Sears customers have had similar problems; however, it is somewhat supportive to know I am not alone. It is too bad that a longtime business like Sears has allowed such dreadful mismanagement of its credit card business. I no longer shop at Sears. This experience was sickening.

Billing error and criminal conduct: I purchased a TV at Sears (Hagerstown, Maryland) in February 2012. I selected Sears Financing; it's 12 months and same as cash. I am a senior with forty years of impeccable credit. After purchase, that evening, I received a call from the credit company suggesting fraud. The issue was the the store is in MD, whereas I live across the state line in WV. The purchase was flagged for suspected fraud. The purchase was suspended while under investigation. The store salesperson, fearing a lost commission, fraudulently, secretly, and without my knowledge forged a second sale ticket and ordered a second TV, believing that it would reach me.
Meanwhile, with effort, the matter was clarified; and the suspended sale was released and delivered. The delivery people made fun of this event, stating that a manager billed my card without my knowledge and calls would begin to pick up this second TV. Immediately afterward, the automated calls began coming in for me to pick up my TV at the store pickup. The calls persisted for approximately two weeks. I'm unable to have them stop! My credit card was charged twice and overcharged again.
Meanwhile, they became confused with billing. Some stuff reached me, while most have not. Officials at the credit company acknowledge that billing statements were being returned as undeliverables. I received two unwanted credit cards and understood that one was returned undeliverable. Others are out there with whereabouts unknown. I received one statement (the first and only) in March. The amount was wrong and greatly understated. I made a complaint that I owed more. The company refused to accept that I did in fact owe more and insisted that the full amount was as shown. I paid the full amount expecting an audit and a second request for money in the near future.
Many complaints were made to the card company constantly and in most levels and departments. Many were sent to Sears store as well. Sears began on March 9 complaint number ** through June 13 complaint number **. All were directed to adjust this bill to what I owed and give me a statement to pay in full. All billing and mailed correspondence stopped, as they lost my account mailing information. Without my knowledge, subsequent statements were being sent out and returned undeliverables.
On June 13, it was brought to my attention by way of a call from the company that this account was past due and fee and late charges were applied. And at the same time, they admitted they had lost my billing address and requested an update. My complaint is that they cannot deliver a statement, a statement with the correct amount.
In addition, I feel that I am not obligated to pay fees in such a matter that the error rest with them. An official (I will not post his name on the internet.) in the presidential level states that I must pay in full over the phone and give him access to my checking account or face prosecution and collections! He was very threatening! Most service operators will not identify themselves. I have been advised to just cross out the amount I feel is unjust and mail the rest, contact corporate Sears, and other such nonsense. I desire a mailed, deliverable written statement, indicating the correct charge less these bogus fees; and I will pay off this account. I desire to correct this situation without disrupting my impeccable forty-year credit. I desire for this company to stop threatening me.

I called and spoke with someone last night to discuss that I could not make the minimum payment. I could make a payment, just not the minimum. I had called them a month ago and was told there was nothing they could do and to call again in a month. I again was told there was nothing they could do and to call again in a month. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that I did not meet the criteria to speak with one. I was then put on hold for over 10 minutes. I pushed and was finally told that I was being transferred to another department, given a number in case of disconnect. I was in fact disconnected and when I called the number I was given, was told that number was no longer in service. They did not listen to me and are not willing to work with me. I have had a Sears credit card for years and I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of clothing, large and small appliances and home decor over the years with and without the use of the credit card. It has been about a year and a half to two years that I have used the card. I received a new card less than two months ago, the new Citibank/Sears MasterCard. Yesterday, I got a letter that they have closed my account. Listed inactivity, but also references to my credit, which was a bunch of baloney! Don't understand why they'd send a new card, and then cancel it!
I'm ticked as I have never been late on the card payments and only use the card when absolutely necessary, so they punish me for it? And I was days away from using the card for three new large kitchen appliances! Forget it. Not only will I not be using the card for Sears (can't, they cancelled it), I will no longer be shopping at Sears at all, nor Kmart. If this is how they treat customers, my business will be taken elsewhere, starting with my kitchen appliances. They have lost my business and that of my husband and in-laws and anyone else who is just as disgusted as I was regarding this. This was the second credit card issue I've had with them (the other was related to payments not being posted a few years ago). Don’t get a Sears credit card! You'll be sorry you did!

Like many on this board, I have been a long time Sears card holder. Problems started last month - April 8th, to be exact. I had not received my statement so I made an online payment of the minimum due worth $37.00. A week later, I get call stating I did not make a payment and I had a late payment fee. I explained I made an online payment via Sears card online on the 8th. So I made another payment over the phone with a live representative and they supposedly waived the late fee. Two days later, I get another call that my account is passed due and I need to make a payment.
I told the called that I just made a payment over the phone two days prior with their collections department. They told me they had no record of payment and I was past due. I checked my Chase online statement and there, clear as day, was the $40.00 payment posted to my account from Citibank. Citibank told me to fax the information, which I did, though they still demanded payment.
I paid $500.00 (half of what I owe) on the 4th of May with the live representative. Again, two days later, I get another call from the collections department stating that I was passed due and owe payment. Again, my Chase account recorded $500.00 posted on my account. Citibank denies getting payment even though I gave them the confirmation number. I am going to Chase to handle these crooks for fraud!

I have been a Sears customer for 30 years. Theirs was the first credit card I ever had. I have always tried to make my payments a couple weeks ahead of time and have tried to pay the minimum payment plus 20%. Last month, Sears said they never got my payment, which is due on the 22nd. I mailed it out on the 8th. They deposited it in their account on the 11th. It cleared my bank on the 14th. No contact was made saying there was a problem. Then when I got my next statement, they charged me a late fee and said they never got a payment for the last month! Then the phone calls from Citibank started 3-5 times a day, every day, all afternoon! I tried to explain that there was a simple explanation for the error and that I did make a payment on time and for $60.00 (minimum was $46.00) and that I had been a 30-year customer and had not ever been a problem to Sears. None of which they cared about. When I pointed out that the problem was theirs (after I checked with my bank), that was when the calls started getting rude and defensive. They’re denying it was their problem and that I was delinquent!
They demanded immediate payment and even tried to insist I give them my bank account info so they could do an immediate withdrawal for the delinquent amount, which they should have had! The phone calls still are being made, even though I have sent a copy of my bank statement showing the payment was made to Sears credit card and the date of the withdrawal from my account, but still no reversal of the late fees or the overcharge of interest and no credit has been applied to my account! The last call was yesterday and the lady on the other end told me they didn't get the copy I sent of my payment and that they do not accept registered mail. They added that I was lying and had done nothing to correct my delinquency! They have also not started an investigation to see whose account my payment was applied to and have no intention to do so! They also would not assure me this wouldn't happen again and could be trusted to handle my payments responsibly in the future!
I am going to have to change my phone number as both my wife and I work third shift and all these calls during our night sleep time are affecting our work performance! Not to mention I have had two heart attacks and all this stress caused from their gross incompetence is jeopardizing my health! Can someone please give me some sound legal advice? Two and a half years ago, I agreed to a trial of the Sears Rewards Points program. At the end of that period, around the end of 2010, I was charged for this program. I called support and asked to be removed from it. I did not use the program. I did not want it. The charge was removed. I was assured that my enrollment in the Rewards Points program had been cancelled. More than a year later, in February, I began to receive phone calls about an overdue balance. On February 20th I called support again. After being on the phone for more than an hour, the manager seemed assured that I had indeed cancelled the Rewards Points program in 2010. I was assured that the charge had been removed and my enrollment in the Rewards Points program was cancelled.
Today, I received another automated phone call from Citibank about my overdue bill. The first person that I spoke with, who did not speak intelligible English, not only assured me that the charge had been removed but told me that she would send me an email confirming this. At least, I believe that this is what she said. I had asked to speak to a manager in order to confirm that I had been removed from the Rewards Points Program and was put on hold for a very long time. Eventually, I hung up and called back again. I spoke to another support person only to learn that you don't send emails and the charge had not been removed and I had not been removed from the Rewards Points Program.
He claims to have removed the charge and I have closed my account in order to avoid future charges for a service that I can not unsubscribe from, that I do not want and that I have never used. Sadly, the Sears card was my first credit card. I have had it for more than 25 years.

I called Sears credit card customer service on the 7th of March 2012 to complain and close the account. I called again on the 26th of March and I was told that my bill still included the annual fee and that they were not going to remove it.
I was told I should pay the total amount I owed because I was even late in making my payments. I therefore paid the whole bill inclusive of the annual fee which I had not budgeted for. This inconvenienced me as I had planned to do other things with the money. It was not made clear to me during application of the card or even in their application paperwork that the annual fee was to be included in my first bill. I called the Sears credit card center and was told the annual fee was waived and I would only pay the amount used to purchase goods at Sears. When I called back on the 26th of March 2012 to find out my final bill so as to pay it off, I was told that I was misled and that there's nothing that can be done. Of course, they said that phone calls were made by computer to my disconnected number (my number was changed 2 months ago, I forgot to let them know). I do have 3 kids and my husband had a medical issue last month, so calling Sears did not come to mind. Besides, I was making weekly payments. And no letter was sent to me. It doesn’t matter that you make weekly payments and nobody cares nor will they take 30 days off my credit report (can't stand these big banks, by the way did Citibank receive a bail out?). I just wished I received that statement a week earlier and could have avoided the whole thing.
What happened to old fashion service when actual people did the work, not computers? Cancelling this card, I called Sears executive office only to be told that there was nothing they could do, because Sears sold them their credit card business 2 years ago. My Sears card account was opened in 2002, and I had over $20,000 of purchases. It is because I purchased major appliances twice, as I moved into two new houses in the past eight years. As a normal consumer, I get the bill and make payments. I shop at Sears, listen to the sales people and the programs about no interest no payment for so and so years. I say to myself, why not? I should take advantage of this offer and so, I did (twice).
The first time was not so bad. I had about $ 5,500 for one-year deferral, and it was paid okay. Then, I bought a bigger house. I decided to equip it well. So, they increased the limit to $13,000, and I signed up for the two years zero interest/no payment plan. After few bills, I discovered that they actually put me on an installment plan, and not deferral. The stub was deceiving; it says no payment required, and no past due. However, they actually charged my account the monthly installment cost of $406.85, and moved it from the zero interest plan into the 28.8 percent interest bucket.
I was making payments just for other occasional purchases. I did not pay attention to this billing scam! Finally, after six months or so, I called them to inquire. I was told that the plan was reviewed, and the credit department switched me over to installment (well I did not know that). Also, that any payment I was making was put against the zero interest balance, and not against the 28.8 percent balance. So, the zero interest was declining, while the higher interest balance is rising. I was so frustrated. I asked to speak to a billing manager to ask how this could happen without the consent of the consumer, and why they would promise such plan and put it on the consumer if they plan to collect interest from a back-door practice.
Well, the manager had nothing to say, but that Sears plan to sell its financial/credit to Chase soon. It will not be solved by Sears now, but rather wait until Chase take over. I waited, and the bills continued to come the same way. So, I called again. This time, the lady tried to investigate, and she promised me that she'll escalate the issue internally; as she's also personally faced with a similar situation, and she knew who to send to. I felt better as I found someone to relate to with my situation, but nothing was resolved for a couple of months. Chase took over, and the first thing they did is to raise my interest to 29.9 percent.
"I had enough of this", I said to myself. I contacted them and spent the whole afternoon explaining what happened to no avail. They simply refused to take any actions, as the account was sold as is; they are not interested to resolve my situation. I alerted them that I'll complain, and will refuse to make payment until the disputed amounts are rectified or adjusted. I sent more than three letters and a couple of online complaints. No response for many months. Then, I got a call from "Linda", of Chase collection. She agreed that if I pay $250 a month, the balance will be at zero interest until paid off, and my credit rating will be protected. I felt it's reasonable, and I started making payments accordingly for over fourteen (14) months.
On February 2011, I was shopping for a car, when I discovered that Sears/Chase reported my account as bad debt/write off. I was very disappointed, and I called Linda. She was very rude, and she said, "What do you expect? Chase had to write off the interest." What interest? I tried to remind her of the agreement, but she finally said that, unless I have it in writing, it is part of the negotiation. I said, “How is this making sense? I kept my end of the deal and made payments. All I'm asking in return is for Chase to honor such agreement, and to report my payments as agreed. What will Chase lose by doing so? Why would they like to upset a consumer who is making payments?”
I finally informed her that I need a statement of all amounts paid; since the deal was made including ending balance and a paper to state the agreement black and white. She refused. She said, “You'll get a paper making the balance due in full upon receipt.” I then informed her that I'll stop making payments, and will settle this legally. Few weeks later, Chase sent my file to a collection agency that has been harassing me day and night.

I have had and still have an account with Sears since the year 2001. I have never been late on payments to Sears, but on May 1, 2011, I received a letter from Sears which states:
We regret to inform you that your Sears card account will not be renewed beyond the expiration date on your credit card. The request was processed by a credit scoring system that assigned a numerical value to various items on your account and credit report. The information did not score a sufficient number of points for approval. We have decided not to renew your account due to the following reasons: Serious delinquency & public record or collection filed, ratio of revolving balances to credit limits too high and number of accounts with delinquency. Our credit decision was based, in whole or in part, on information obtained in a report from the following consumer reporting agency: Equifax Credit Information Service, PO Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241, 1-800-685-1111. Please note, other than providing information that the reporting agency played no part in our decision and is unable to supply the specific reasons why your account is not being renewed.
By the way, I am still paying on this account and have still not been late on payments. Please advise.

I had a Sears credit card (actually, one of those that they force on you when you buy something). But it was OK. On my April 2011 statement, I saw a late fee and I called them since I did remember that I had paid all of the credit cards including this on time. I always pay the full balance way before the due date. I was told that maybe the system had some problem and it had not gone through! I asked to remove the late fee and after some time, I was told that the account is not eligible to remove that! I was surprised, but since I did not have more time to spend on the phone and the amount was less than 20 dollars, I just forgot about that.
Today, I received the June 2011 statement and was surprised to see a late fee of $21.43 on my statement. Note that based on their encouragement, I am paperless and an email is expected to be sent to me for statements. Since I was extremely sensitive especially after the first late fee to make sure all is paid on time, I went back and checked the received statements and I discovered that they have not sent me the May 2011 statement. This is for sure! I called them and again, the same story. I asked the guy (who was a kind of Spanish guy) to close the account. However, since this has been Sears' fault and looking at this, I think the first late fee should have been based on a similar situation (hope not a scheme to rob customers!), I decided to follow up the case by officially complaining and following it up to save other people from a similar situation. I just wanted to let you all know about this. I will keep posting this wherever needed.

When I joined Meetup.com, I used my Sears Master Card account to pay. The account number listed on my billing is Meetup N.Y. I no longer use Meetup.com account, and canceled the account. I did my best to go to Meetup.com at the place where I signed up over the net. I tried to follow what few directions they had to cancel my account. A contact person was nowhere to be found to talk with live about canceling my account. And there was no physical address. After much research and frustration, it appeared that it was cancelled. I called Sears Master Charge and told them that I had cancelled the account and not to bill me again.
I continue to be billed by Sears Master Charge and threatened in spite of canceling my account. There seems to be a way of stopping them from billing and harassing me with letters. They tell me that I need to send them more information before they can stop payment. I have no other information to send them and have tried to explain this without result. If Sears Master Charge is billing me, it seems they would have the information to be able to stop payment.

They said they did not get the payment in 30 days because they got it on the 30th day, so they kicked me off again. First I was told that they should not have put me on the program in the first place, then I was told they give you time to get off or take off the insurance. They kicked my off before I even know anything about the insurance. Now my payments are higher than they were before I got on the program and they say they cannot help me.

Back in 1996, my husband paid off a Sears credit card. In 2003, when we decided to buy a house, they said that we still owe them for the card and we had to pay it again just to get it cleared up for the purchase. Then, in 2005, it showed up again. This time, they said that it was a remainder amount of $700+. We paid it, thinking that we should do so to keep our report cleared.
In 2007, I wrote a check that did not clear so they sent us to a collection agency. I paid the collection agency for the amount plus bounced fee. Again, today (2011), I received a call from a collection agency wanting payment for the same check! When I called Sears because I am not going to send another payment, they acted like I was rude on the phone. Bianca in Customer Service talked over me even though all I wanted was the name of the original collection agency they had sent it to, so that I could have my bank find my proof. What this amounts to is someone like myself who has a $15 balance and is being charged $2 a month is really paying a much higher APR then what is stated and agreed upon. From the start, Sears played slight of hand. I later learned that the "no payments for a year" offer did not mean that. It meant no interest added to the payment but the payments came due at the close of 30 days, when Sears added $35 late fee. I paid attention because of the bill collector phone calls. That's when I focused on 25.24% APR that applies to Sears cards. When I called, I learned that Sears charges $15 for taking phone payments. My problems with Sears began in the billing department. I bought several appliances in a "package deal" with a discount and deferred payment for a year. I never received a statement from Sears stating the total amount owed and the payment in full due date.
a) They had a "bad address" on file so they were unable to send me a bill
b) That the full amount was due in 2 days time
I have worked for organizations that deal with customer addresses for billing and solicitation purposes and am fully aware of the resources/services used by companies to verify and correct addresses especially when money is owed. Additionally, they had my correct address on file for both delivery purposes, and promotional mailings. Very upset by these practices, I had a heated exchange with the representative. They grudgingly extended the due date for the payment one month.
About a week and a half later, when I still had not received a bill from Sears, I called again, and was told that my account had been cancelled. They could provide me no explanation. A "manager" claimed that an automated letter stating the reasons had been sent to my address. Interestingly enough, they still had the incorrect mailing address on file, and they also claimed that the letter could not be reproduced or re-sent to me with the details on why I had been cancelled. I had the account for 10 years, and the only balance on it was from the appliance purchase. The representative snidely suggested that it had been a problem with my credit, and told me to contact the credit bureaus.
When I contacted the credit bureaus, I found no changes in my credit rating or history (which is very good) nor any black marks that would have caused such measures. Also interesting, I received an offer to increase my credit from Home Depot not a month later.
I finally received a bill from Sears another week or so later, along with a letter from Sears stating that I had been the one to cancel my account, which was not only interesting, but totally fictitious.
Right before the warranty on my Kenmore Elite, Dual-Fuel range with electric convection oven (Model #: 79046633603) was about to run out, I finally figured out that the oven was running too cool when in convection mode (causing under-cooked items and I thought it was me!).
Initially, when the Sears repairman came to the house, he watched everything turn on, said it worked fine, and tried to leave without further testing, dismissing my concerns. At my insistence, he finally tested the temperature, and found it ran 40 degrees too cool. The repair was made at that time.
Not 11 months later (still under 2 years of ownership), I was broiling some items when the touchpad (that controls the broiler and oven) "froze". It started flashing F-11 and beeping maniacally and the touchpad was unresponsive. Fearful that I could not turn off the broiler, I kept frantically tapping at the keypad until I was finally able to get it to disengage using the back of a utensil. I had to unplug the stove since it continued to beep and flash the F-11 code. This continued every time I plugged the stove back in to use the stove top (thankfully, gas).
As the less than 2 year old stove is no longer under warranty, I have not had the money to repair this problem. I have done some searches online and found others that seem to have had the same problem. I have not been able to find any information that indicates this model is eligible for a recall, which I find incredible.
Upset and harassed by Sears "customer service" and financing, then stuck with a stove with ongoing, now dangerous, heating issues, has been a stressful and upsetting experience. It really took the joy out of finally getting my "dream kitchen" and I take no satisfaction in the fact that so many others have had similar experiences when dealing with Sears and their products.

So I asked, "Is my payment history taken into account? " The response was yes. I asked, "what is my payment history?" Response was "excellent. "
Obviously, my customer loyalty means nothing to these people. Not only are they totally rude and incompetent on the phone, but they are cutting the credit lines of customers that pay the most interest, and pay on time! Because of this new decision that Sears credit made, my credit score will be negatively impacted. The thing is, the years it says my Sears accounts were being used was in 2003-2004, which would make me 13 years old. I don't see how this could really happen.

On November 23, a Sears repairman came to my address to service my kitchen stove. In checking the unit that was in need of repair, the cost of the repair was that of a new stove.
I went to Sears in Middletown, New Jersey and picked out a new stove. I went home and retrieved my Sears credit card and then attempted to purchase my new stove. I was declined. Upon calling customer service to find out why it was not approved, the service rep stated my card was closed. The customer service person stated the card was closed in 2008, unknown to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and explained what had occurred to her. She stated that there was nothing she could do then she hung up.
Upon calling customer service again, and again getting connected to a supervisor, she stated that a letter was sent out in 2008 stating "due to inactivity, the card was closed". I told the woman that I never received the letter and checked my account last week and it did not state my account was closed. I explained to her that I kept the card for emergencies, for big purchases, to purchase something that was seriously needed like the one today. I told her that I had children at home and needed to cook for them. She did not care. Basically she said the letter was sent out and if the post office lost it or was not delivered, it did not matter. I have had an account with Sears since 1987.
This was an outrage that a credit card company would treat customers like this. I explained the situation again and it fell on deaf ears. She said simply apply again. I told the woman why I have to be put through this since I was not delinquent, nor had a bad credit standing, that I underwent a divorce and that I probably would not be able to get approved. I said to the woman that this was poor customer relations, that Sears would treat their customers like this was wrong. She said, “That is your opinion.”
In speaking to the sales persons there, this is not the first time that Sears has done this to their customers. A company that has been around for many years and almost bankrupt would treat their customers who have had credit accounts for over 20 years. In today’s age, as hard as times are, to walk in to a place thinking you had an open line of credit to make large purchases, to find out the company closed your account is the utmost embarrassment.
I did apply and was approved for $500.00, just enough to cover the expense to the kitchen stove @ 26% interest. I can say that any chance I can, I will tell people who shop at Sears about how the company really cares about their customers.

You should always read the fine print, I didn't, so my interest rate just jumped from 14% to 24%. The reason explained to me was that my original purchase of replacement A/C and furnace was offered at the "promo" rate of 14% with a time limit. Well, I just got charged a $39.00 late fee because my payment did not take into account the increased interest rate. It doesn't matter that I have never had a late payment, always paid more than the minimum payment. So as far as I am concerned, Sears will never receive any more of my business. I am retired and on a fixed income, and yes, I blew it. This was my first major purchase after 38 years of marriage ending in divorce, so it was very new. Live and learn, don't trust anyone, even Sears. Read it twice to avoid this shark attack.

On November 13, 2009 I was told by Lorane in the appliance department that if I make a purchase over $399 and open a credit card account, I will get interest free for a year. This never happened. She then told me that the card was only giving $300 and I would not get the interest free for a year. I went back to Sears on November 14 and requested to have the entire order cancelled and the credit card cancelled. (The purchase, a stove, never left the store). Lorane never provided the credit card company with the cancellation information and I did not receive from Sears the document showing the item was cancelled since I had provided a down payment on the item.
I called to talk with a manager at the store and was given Lorane, the sales clerk, who did not know how to handle the situation. I requested Lorane to transfer me to a manager then she hung up on me. She later called back and said that all managers were busy she will have one call me back in 10 minutes. It is now over an hour. I am still waiting at the phone for a call back to clarify the credit card issue since no one at Sears called the credit card company to cancel the sale. They keep promoting their Sears credit card and now even forcing it on you. The first inconvenience is that you have to call them to tell them you don't want their card even though you did not ask them to send you one. After wasting your time calling them to tell them no, they turn around and send you the card anyway. There must be a law where you don't want to receive a credit card. Talking about a company helping to worsen the economic problem on consumers by sending them credit cards, basically baiting them to screw their finances. I don't want one and did not even ask for one, yet they send you the card.

I've been a Sears cardholder for 19 years, yet after being one day late on a payment, they hiked my rate to 29.99%. I called and was informed that the rate would stay in effect for 12 full months and no, there was nothing they could do about it. With little other choice, I gathered up savings to pay off the balance. The next month instead of reflecting zero, my statement had $107 in finance charges. I wrote them a letter disputing the charges. They wrote back (rather quickly I might add!) and said no, they could do whatever they want. Again with little alternatives, I paid the balance again, having misread the amount by one cent. Sure enough on my latest statement, they charged me additional finance charges and now the balance is $2.35?!
I am absolutely appalled at their business practices, irate at such reprehensible and callous treatment. Unfortunately, I still have a Citicard, which I opted out on earlier that has a balance and when I contacted Sears card to close that account, they simultaneously closed the Citicard account and immediately reported that on my credit report.

We have been customers of Sears for years and have always paid our bills. We decided to get a debt consolidation loan to pay off our larger credit card debts. We sent, before the due date, the entire amount of our balance as of the last billing statement. Well, the next month comes with us still owing a balance that was from interest of the previous month! The other companies we paid off did not charge us for interest when we paid off the entire balance as the last statement. Why is Sears different? I called your customer service and was pretty much told, very rudely, by one of your supervisors, "That's too bad, we will not write it off for you, you will still have to pay that also."
Well, considering we are hurting that's why we consolidated, I sent in a smaller payment because I don't want our credit ruined that we have tried so hard to keep clean! We just received another billing with more added interest! What is wrong with you? Do you not care about your customers? I have also ordered from your catalog on line and had to return some of it and was never given correct credit for it despite repeated attempts to correct it! This is after I wait on hold for over an hour. I have never seen such poor customer service. I'm so surprised that Sears would treat their customers this way.
After investigating online, many others have been through the same thing. It's some sort of scam. Sears rebate wants you to fight for the money, hoping that you'll give up and they get to keep it. Even if they do eventually send it, they've made moneys off the interest of holding your money for so long. I am so disappointed in this company. This will be the purchase I make from this store. I have had endless problems with my local Sears retailer and with my Sears Premier Gold MasterCard. Here, I describe two non-related problems. Yesterday, I noticed on my Sears Credit Card bill that they had jacked my interest rate up to 29.99%, probably because I was a few days late on a payment within the past 12 months. In other words, Sears saw me being a couple of days late after being a faithful customer for over a decade as an excuse to commit usury. I called the number on my bill and complained about it. The representative, a man named Denzel said he would put me on hold in order to "submit a request for review", whatever that means. While he had me on hold, I noticed a charge on the bill for $25 for a "Rewards program" that Sears apparently "offers." I had never requested or authorized the charge. When Denzel returned to the phone, I told him about the charge and that I had never requested it. While I was speaking, Denzel interrupted me to tell me that the only way the charge could have appeared was because I had called them to request it. I asked him to please wait, I had not finished speaking. He interrupted me again. When I tried to explain that neither my wife nor I ever called to request such a program in which you have to pay to get a reward, and I said to him, "Please stop interrupting me," he yet again interrupted me to tell me that he "highly doubted that I had not called up" to request the charge. In semi-polite language, in other words, he accused me of lying when I said I had never requested to be charged and signed up for the program. During the entire call, I remained polite and calm while being railroaded by Denzel, the Sears employee.
I asked to speak to his supervisor. I said I did not appreciate being accused, even through insinuations, of lying. I said that as a paying customer whose payments help pay his salary, his rudeness made me angry; after all I was paying him, he was not paying me. I told him I resented being interrupted every time I attempted to say something to him. I am not exaggerating. As soon as I brought up the fact that I had never requested to be enrolled in the rewards program and had never authorized a charge for it, he began interrupting me every single time I spoke in an attempt to stonewall me and cover up the fact that Sears had illegally placed a charge on my account for the company's own benefit. I never lost control of my composure during the call and never failed to demonstrate courtesy and respect, yet he accused me of being rude to him, and that I had been interrupting him! The expression Denzel used was, "This is a two-way street." As far as I could tell, Denzel was driving the only vehicle, and it was a steam roller headed straight for me on a one-lane, one-way road. People and companies that make a habit of lying to their clients and that practice usury, often use the old "smoke and mirrors" routine, stonewalling, or bullying tactics to attempt to wear down the abused client and steal his money. When I demanded to speak with a supervisor, Denzel adopted an indignant and condescending tone (more bullying). At this point, he put the phone down, ostensibly, yet with no warning, to get a supervisor to speak to me.
At first I thought he had hung up on me. I am glad I waited on the phone on the chance that Denzel had not actually hung up on me. The supervisor, Ashley, informed me that there was no way to register a complaint! I have never heard of a company in which customer service plays such an important role and yet the company lacks any means of addressing customer complaints. At this point I realized that I was dealing with something very bizarre indeed. Ashley apologized for Denzel's rudeness, and informed me that since I had been such a loyal Sears customer over the years, that the review would likely go in my favor. I also had her double check to make sure Denzel didn't exact vengeance on what he perceived as my rude behavior, (at this point I wasn't discounting the possibility that the gentleman might be a paranoid schizophrenic and had done something terrible to my account records in a sick attempt at "getting even" with me for some reason.) Fortunately, he had done what I requested, submitted the interest rate for review and unenrolled me from the program and refunded the cost of it. Denzel needs to find some more fulfilling line of work. I sincerely hope I never have to deal with him again. I plan on closing out my Sears account and I’m never shopping there again, not only because of this experience, but because of the other experience I said I would recount in this letter.
Months ago, I took my car in to get the brakes repaired at Sears. All the car needed was new brake pads. When they called me back to inform me of the dollar amount of the estimate, they told me it was going to cost me in excess of $600! I had to pay an estimate charge to get the car back. I replaced the brake pads myself for only about $100. They told me all kinds of things were wrong with my car. So many things wrong with the brakes that I can't remember them all. My mechanic friend looked at it and his comment was, "They are robbing you. I'll help you do this and charge you nothing. Just get the parts." Which is exactly what I did and the car has been fine ever since. Why does Sears lie, cheat and steal and never has to pay the consequences? There must be a way to make a formal complaint with some person or organization which can effectively address this matter. If anyone can help me, I would be most grateful. I am not the kind of person who goes out of his way to complain about things. I usually let things slide and chalk them up to the fact that anyone can have a bad day at work. This, however, pushed my buttons, and was going to cost me money I can't afford to spend now. In the words of Mr. Filtch of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, "I want to see some punishment here!" Thank you for any help you can give me.

So, I called Sears Credit Card and they noticed that I received credit and they would remove the late charge fee.
The next bill I received in the mail showed another late charge fee on the amount of the other late charge fee. I know this is complicated but bear with me. I called Sears Credit Card again and complained of being charged a late fee for a late fee. I talked to a guy by the name Warren, I got frustrated and said “What does it show how much I have to pay to clear up this account.” He said $26.83 and wanted to know if I wanted to pay for it through the phone per checking account. I said “Yes and would my account be up to date with a zero balance and no more late charge fees” and he said yes my account would be zero balance with no late charge fee. Then the next bill came and there again I was charged a late charge fee on the last charge fee. I called Sears Credit Card and disputed the charge and the woman told me she understood and could see on my account the problem it was having and would give me credit of the late charge fees.
Later about 2 weeks my husband answered the phone and they told them that my account was late on payments he wanted to know how much they told him and he tried to pay for it on his checking account. When he told me what he did I called the bank and stopped that payment to be made because I was told it would be credited with a zero balance. This problems keeps going. I received the next bill and it showed that my account was not credited and Sears kept on charging my account late charge fees. They said no and I asked for a dispute contact. I also did not receive a letter from them, stating that the terms of my account were going to change significantly.
I sent my appeal letter and was informed today (after I contacted THEM) that it was not the BANK's fault and that that amount would stay as is. This now DOUBLES my indebtedness. We received a bill from Sears for a credit card we did not order. After alerting Sears, it became obvious that we were a victim of identity theft. After much deliberation, and not wanting to hurt our credit score, we agreed to accept the credit line, but under a different account number, with the first (fraudulent) account being suspended. We used the card and accrued a balance. I missed a couple of payments, but always caught up. Until they didn't renew the card and there was a small balance, I continued to pay. During this time, Sears called my house daily, sometimes several times a day. I tried to cancel a protection service on that account, and to no avail. The calls were to alternately thank us for being customers, to give opinions, or to demand payment. I quit answering the phone.
The account kept reducing, but they cancelled it anyway. I quit paying. And they kept calling, and calling and made my life a living hell. Finally, last October, they sent us a settlement offer. Unfortunately I was out of town and only received the letter after business hours, on the last day of the offer. I called them first thing the following morning, on Nov. 12th 2008, to pay that settlement amount in full over the phone. They declined. But they kept calling, and calling and calling. I tried several times to get a reasonable settlement offer (Balance due minus the protection service and associated interest, and minus one half the interest accrued from Nov to current equaled about fifty percent of the total), again to no avail. They wouldn't budge. I asked them repeatedly to stop calling and to only deal with us through the mail. They refused, and kept calling, and calling.
Today I settled the account with their collection agency, at fifty percent. He called once, left a message. I returned his call and it was done. CitiGroup got bailout money, but they wouldn't work with me. They gave the debt to a separate agency as a write off, and the separate agency got the money. They made my life hell for months. During the time my mother was dying in my home, they harassed me. I have been afraid to answer my phone for a year because of these people. And my credit has been ruined. I cannot tell you the feelings of despair and fear every single time my phone rang.

After the Sears fraud inspector investigated the disputed charges, it was found that it was indeed fraud. In Dec she received a statement stating that $8,187.08 was charged off her account. She then had an acct. bal. of -$3,717.88. She immediately called Sears and asked to do a bal. transfer to pay on another card of hers and she wished to close this acct. She was told that they couldn't do a bal. transfer but they would issue her a check in the amt of $3,717.88 and she would receive this in 7 to 10 working days. Her available credit line on this card is $6,100.00 with a cash access line of $1,220.00.
She thinking her card is at a zero balance began getting cash at a casino here in town thinking when she reached her cash limit any further request would be denied. My problem here is: 1) The company's own policy is to not allow cash access at casino. 2) She should have only been able to access $1220.00 in cash even still. They never mailed her the money owed to her as she requested instead they paid it to her in cash access.
As I stated, my sister is bipolar and my family is fully aware of her poor judgement especially when it comes to money. Thus we went to great lengths to set up limits so she can feel independent and we don't have to worry about her losing or spending everything. I feel the card co. had no right to pay her the money owed to her as they did. If they had sent it out in a check as requested. If they only allowed her cash access limit she owes $1,220.00 even. Still what makes me madder is the fact that their own policy is not to allow cash access in casinos and yet they gave her all the money owed to and more. Is there anything that can be done about this? I know my sister spent the money irresponsibly but in her defense that is why we had made the arrangements we had to safeguard her from doing so. Can you help or suggest anything???

I James ** bought a TV from Sears 18 months ago, set up as a promotional thing no payment for 18 months. They started sending me statements of $33.00 or $34.00 and I did ask at my local Crossville store. They said they didn't know much about it to call this 800 number for Sears, was told this was being applied toward TV PAYMENTS. Don't worry about it. I still made the payments and bought a washer & dryer also a Lawn Mower all under promotional thing. I did ask a few more times about these payments and finally was told that I signed up for account care which I didn't even know what that was.
I finally did get someone to talk about this and was told they would take care of this, which they did send me a letter saying account care would be cancelled. We really thought that the payments that we did make would go back into the Sears account in be applied to the TV and washer & dryer so when my I paid it off last week I thought my balance should be around $329.64 but they are saying it's right around $900.00. That is awful to do to a person. I am a senior and have good credit and if I had known about Sears going business like this I would have put it on my Mastercard. Can you help me in this matter?

I purchased a refrigerator from Sears in May 2006 on a 0 percent promo if put on their credit card. They charged me three times for the refrigerator, charged me 24% interest and their customer service talked to me like a dog. I contacted corporate and they treated me horribly also. I cancelled my card a long time ago but am still dealing with erroneous charges on the credit card I am STILL paying on in order to protect my credit which is flawless. To make things worse, the compressor on my refrigerator went out on TWO Sears brand (Kenmore) refrigerators. I am crushed and caused great financial hardship. I have reported the erroneous charges to the overseeing credit card place, but to no avail yet.

As Executor, I called Sears to notify them of my mother's death and that I would ensure that her credit card balance would be paid in full as soon as the funds became available in the estate account. Without informing me, they turned my mother's account over to a collection agency that has been calling me on my cell, at home, my sister, and my mother's house almost on a daily basis. In this time of family grief, the harassing calls are very nerve racking and insensitive. I was the one who informed them of my mother's passing... I also said the estate would pay her balance in full. I am very irritated with Sears and will not shop there. I will be telling my friends of how they are dishonoring my mother by their heartless and ruthless collection actions.

For months, I have attempted to get assistance with a late account. The account became late when I got laid off from my job and then my wife became ill and was hospitalized twice. Loss of income and mounting medical bills set us back. All other creditors were more than willing to work with us to get our accounts back on track except for Sears. We were told to let the account go 90 days past due and then ask for a settlement - their instructions. So we did this. Then when it came time to talk settlement, Teresa called us and we initiated the talk. She made an absurd offer which was still raping us with interest and fees. We are not trying to get anything for free; we want to pay the full principal and a reasonable amount in interest. We also want the credit reporting information changed to be less damaging.
This is the only account that appears negative at this time on our credit report. Teresa, a Citibank representative, was rude and threatening. She tried to pull the bait and switch with us telling us to make a smaller payment on the account and then to revisit settlement. We know this will start the 90-day wait all over again. She kept trying to get me to say/admit/commit to things on the phone and stating in a threatening way that this call was being recorded and everything I say will be reviewed, etc. I cannot believe Sears/Citibank is so unwilling to work with people especially with the economy the way it is today.

I have been a Sears Mastercard holder since 2005. Have never missed a payment or been late for one. I recently logged onto the site to check credit availability and discovered that my credit limit had been decreased. I called the number on the back of the card and spoke to a representative and was told that my limit had been decreased because of a derogatory mark on my credit report. I got the telephone number from the representative and called the credit reporting agency to get a copy of my credit report.
Upon receiving the report, I called Sears back and told them that there was no evidence that I had a derogatory mark on my report. They then proceeded to tell me that aside from that mark, I have a lot of outstanding debts and that is another reason why they decreased my line. I am very disappointed to discover that this is the way they do business. I've been paying more than the minimum payment and have been an outstanding customer and this is the way that they treat me. Needless to say, I have now closed the account.

Payments are not being applied to promotional Balances. I make a $75.00 monthly payment and only about $23.00 is required for the revolving balance, none of the remainder is applied to promotional balances. I was told that I could only have a portion of the most recent payment applied to my promotional balances and that I would have to call each and every month to designate how my payment would be applied. If I didn't call they only apply payments to the revolving balances. I then ask for all my past payments to be re-designated and for any future payments to be equally dispersed and was denied. I was again told I would have to call each month if I wanted any money applied to my promotional balances.
I have been making payments to this for 7 or 8 months and assuming payments were being equally applied and now (01/01/09) when the promotion runs out I will have almost $500 in interest on my initial purchase of $2400 from April 08. On June 20, 2008 at 21:43 pm (2) Delta tickets were purchased online, using my Sears Mastercard ending in No. **, each in the amount of: $1681.87 (including tax and fees). On 8/06/08, almost a month and half after the purchase online, my Sears Mastercard account was charged $1874.13 instead of $1681.87, for each ticket. This amount wrongfully charged differs by $192.26 per ticket, total amount: $384.52 to be refunded/credited to my card.
Therefore, I immediately requested, several times, by phone and by letter (with all documentation to support claim) that this amount be credited to me. This letter was sent 2 times to Sears since they stated they had not received anything and that I should contact Delta. I also contacted Delta Airlines who in turn stated that they submitted a charge of $1681.87 for each ticket, therefore it was Sears who needed to adjust my account. On the other hand, Sears told me it was Delta's fault. On October 20th, I received a letter stating that since I have not responded to their request, which to date I have no idea what they are requesting from me; they are simply closing this claim. The damage is a wrongful charge for a product which will also cause extra finance fees, and time and effort on my part for an error they committed and no one has resolved yet.

In the meantime the money they are charging my account (even though I cancelled the Account Care) cannot be paid off (according to Andrew at Citibank as well as others at Sears Credit Card Who's names I didn't get). This money can only be paid off after I pay off the money i borrowed on the promotional 4% rate (approximately $6,000.00). Therefore the "Account Care" fees and management fees and 8.99% interest keep growing and adding on and growing. Even if "Account Care" refunds my money, CitiBank (according to Andrew) will not allow me to payoff the higher interest rated debt prior to me paying off the lower interest rated debt.
Jacob (Account Care) told me that I signed up for Account Care on 11-29-04. I don't recall ever signing up. I wouldn't even know how to get in touch with Account Care to sign up. I asked the CitiBank people and Sears Credit Card people how this could have happened and they told me they have no clue because Account Care is not part of their company. They have nothing to do with Account Care and don't know anything about the company. They also told me that the only thing I could do is to take it up with Account Care. Call them and ask them to cancell the service and request (REQUEST) an investigation to see if I could get a refund. That was the only advise they could give me because "Account Care" is NOT owned by either CitiBank or Sears. Flat out lie.
Greg and Jacob (from Account Care) at separate times slipped and informed me that Account Care is in fact owned by Citibank. And the credit card through Sears is managed by Citibank. Jacob told me that Sears owns Account Care after Andrew from Citi Bank informed me that Sears and Citi Bank have nothing to do with Account Care and does not own Account Care. When I asked Andrew (CitiBank) why he lied to me after Jacob (Account Care) slipped (told me Account Care is in fact owned by Citibank) when they were both on the phone with me on a conf call, Greg (CitiBank) hung up!
Then Jacob switched me to Greg H. (Account Care with no extention). The previous Account Care person prior to Jacob (wouldn't give me his name). I requested that they give me the name of the supervisor that would be doing the investigation. He said he COULDN'T. They would notify me in anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. Most likely 4 months.
QUESTION: Does account care take into account that I spent the last 2 days working on resolving this problem (which is nowhere to being resolved), my time involved, plus the pressure placed on me like my blood pressure and stress of knowing that my debt is just racking up as I battle this mess I never applied for until it's resolved or I use another credit card to buy my way out. This is criminal theft by deception.
Greg's Resolutions was: If Account Care's investigation finds out that I didn't sign up for this then they would refund my money entirely as well as fees and interest.
KICKER 1: Citibank/Sears own's Account Care even though both Citibank and Sears told me they don't. KICKER 2: Citibank/Sears also informed me even if Account Care issues me the refund as well as the fees and interest, neither Citibank nor Sears will place that money towards the 8.99% interest baring account until the 4.00% promotional rate is completely paid off. During that time of which 8.99% interest will be incurred and immediately rolled over and placed on top of the old balance therefore ever increasing the amount owed under the 8.99% rate. I want my money, fees and interest refunded and put towards the 8.99% interest rate prior to me paying off the promotional 4.00% interest rate.

The sales clerk assured me there were no balloon interest payments. I just checked my Sears account online and noticed a finance charge $577.64 was recently applied to my account balance. At that time, I was notified that they would not reverse the finance charges.
My statements did not show any deferred interest accruing, so there was no way for me to expect that I would have a balloon payment. I was hoaxed into paying off my balance in the hopes of reversing the deferred interest but after calling back and talking to another Citibank account rep, he said that there was no way to reverse the charge because it was beyond the 15 day grace period. So I was duped into making a payment for no reason.

Our bank told us the checks were never presented and that both times funds were available. Frustrated, I personally walked into a Sears Store and paid with a Cashiers check. We have taken every action possible to dispute Sears claims including sending bank statements from our bank which clearly show the checks were never presented to our bank.
We believe the checks were purposely not presented to our bank so Sears could charge back a NSF fee, raise the interest rate and negate the six month no interest no payment period. After thanking them and getting all pertenant info ie. the account number off the card, I called Sears Credit. They informed me that it was not a new card, but an upgrade to an existing account. Neat trick considering I do not have an existing account. I cancelled my only account with Sears nearly two years ago. In fact, when I recently purchased an item at Sears, I was solicited by the Sales person there to open an account. Not only did I decline, but gave explicit instructions to not solicite me through the mails for an account. Not only did Sears disregard this, but they sent a card to the wrong address!
Thankfully, the people who received the card were honest. Had they not been, than the burdon of proof would have been on me, and in the mean time my credit would have been raked through the mud. I also spent an exorbitant amount of time on hold waiting to clear this up.
