Updated on 12/17/2025: We used Mayflower to move us because in the past we have had success. However, this last move we had damages that we filed claims. We also had miss quotes on storage (long-term) and use of Climate Control Storage facilities. We filed our claim and it is still dragging on from September to now (mid-December). They tell you not to repair, clean or fix anything while they then delay, deny and lie. They use Claim Teams (1-9), part of UniGroup.
If you thought dealing with Healthcare was bad, hopefully, you don't have a claim and deal with Claims Team 1. When we were going to update our claims, that portion of the website (claims) was out for over 3 weeks. We had someone from corporate call us and apologize and when you tell them of the issues, they tell you they have no control over claims?? Then, Why did they bother to call? An apology doesn't resolve the issue with claims or getting back in a timely matter. All they do is push it to different people (more delay) and take weeks to respond, if at all. Please note, Mayflower is also part of United. I would challenge their CEO, Kevin A. Krakora, to address the inefficiencies in their people, process and technology. I am still waiting 2 weeks now, after I got an initial response that my claim was "almost done", and we will get back to you by the "end of the week" ... yeah, right!
Finally, let me share some things you need to ensure you are ready to move:
1) Driver does inventory, make sure there are pictures and labeled correctly. You may find the driver labels your items with scratches, or some damage , when there is none. The picture validates that!
2) If you ask for climate control for storage, make sure it is spelled out in the invoice as they don't DO THAT. You need to make sure it is ITEMIZED on the invoice.
3) Sometimes the driver will claim they cannot get the Semi-truck in the neighborhood (when they can). Instead, they offload it to smaller (U-Haul) trucks. This additional movement opens you up to damages! Drivers get extra-pay for this!
4) Find out exactly where they are storing your goods. The facility may not be up to standards (dirty, no climate control, etc.).
5) Finally, if you do have to file a claim. Get estimates of fixing (replacing) the items. They will send an inspector our ( 2-3 weeks) and will just offer you a lump sum. Don't take it as you may find, for example, cleaning the upholstery, does not come out! You need full replacement value; but, it would be TOO LATE, because you took their lump sum. Do your due diligence.
6) Stay persistent. They will deny, delay and lie! I cannot tell you how many times I was told, we will call, or get back by the end of the week!
Original Review: We had used Mayflower and United for previous moves with little no incidents. However, this last moved had stains on upholstery, furniture scratches and breaks, dirty beds, poorly packed clothing, etc. Filing a claim has turned out to be a nightmare. They tell not to do anything, while they drag it out and low-ball repairing or fixing anything. What is unfortunate is that we paid extra for FULL-VALUE replacement ( which turned out to be a scam).
One thing we learn was that drivers have a slush fund to gain money for themselves when they claim they cannot get the Semi-Truck into your neighborhood. Instead, they will go to a U-Haul, transfer you items from the Semi to the U-haul ( probably multi-times) and deliver it. This is usually not necessary and it causes potential damage ( more moving) and exhaust the workers. However, the driver gets to get extra pay for this. Shows they don't really care about the contents or you. Mayflower/United should STOP this practice!
The second point, if the salesperson indicates/hints your items will be placed in climate control facilities. Make them prove it. As we discovered, your items are in a warehouse, control by what the OUTSIDE temperature happen to be ( NO Temperature control). If you are able to get a hold of anyone from claims, they will tell you 7 days, etc. only to not get any feedback. You will find that you have to PULL constantly as they share (PUSH) no information. 2 1/2 months later ... we are still pulling. You might as well get ready for arbitration because they aren't going to respond. You actually need a class action lawsuit to clean this mess up. Unfortunately, we have another move ... and we cannot recommend Mayflower/United. If you do use them, hopefully, claims are not needed! Order Number: **.

Deceptive, Unprofessional, and Negligent – Avoid Premier Mayflower Movers. We recently used Premier Mayflower Movers for our relocation from Michigan to New Jersey, and the experience was an absolute nightmare. Nearly every piece of furniture packed by their crew arrived damaged, with replacement costs approaching $50,000. Every item we packed ourselves arrived in perfect condition, highlighting the movers’ negligence in handling, packing, loading, transport, and storage.
Our first crew was witnessed by neighbors throwing boxes into the truck, and the destination crew arrived two hours early, unloading all of our belongings onto the front lawn, driveway, and street. They did not properly protect the floors in our new construction home, leaving mud and leaves all over our finished basement floor. Boxes were piled without any order, placed in the wrong rooms, and furniture was not placed properly, leaving a complete mess that took us two weeks to organize. At no point were we offered any help to resolve these issues. The crews falsely documented several items as pre-damaged on the inventory report, rushed us through paperwork without allowing us to read or verify it, frequently complained during the move, and many barely spoke English, making communication extremely difficult.
We initially had Katie ** as our salesperson, who did a great job convincing us we would receive a top-notch experience. Sunny ** seemed genuinely concerned, apologizing and saying it was good that we purchased extra coverage. Valerie initially appeared attentive and acted as if our claim would be resolved satisfactorily. However, Bethany ** from claims proved rude, dismissive, and clearly only cared about protecting the company, not the customer.
Despite purchasing full-value protection coverage for $98,000, and being charged over $20,000 for this hellacious move, our high-value furniture has been compromised, leaving us with serious financial and emotional stress. We now realize we were misled and deceived throughout the entire process. Based on our experience, we strongly advise against using Premier Mayflower Movers.

This should be a zero-star review. What can you say about a mover that packs your toilet brush with your dish drainer? Damage claim is still going, 3 months later, but they don't care. Use another co!

I don’t even know where to start to begin with. I would not even 21 star, but there is no zero available. I was scheduled for July 18 2025. California to Tennessee. But they wanted to come the 17th which was ok but Instead of a 53 foot truck, they brought two 29 foot box cars, which now has to be stored in a warehouse until truck is available. Meaning everything has to be unloaded again. It was stored approximately two plus weeks later. We finally received a call letting us know our furniture was on its way. Scheduled to arrive July 25 through August 4. We were told reasoning for the delay different things each time finally arrived August 8 Three weeks exactly again with two box cars. Meaning it was unloaded and loaded again.
By the time I received on August 8 they mixed everything up I paid extra for a drop off that did not get dropped off until everything was removed from trucks a lot of damages, tore up 10 plus boxes and chips on my furniture. I am still going through damages. I would not recommend this moving company ever. I thought it would be good because it has been around for a long time but we definitely did not get good service. I paid a lot of money to make sure my furniture was safe but I Could have bought all brand new furniture (even though it would have been different) and not had the money I am out. I could go on and on. Hopefully I am able to repair and re-place but I’m sure I will not get anything to make this possible. This is just a few of the damages.

We used Mayflower for our move. On to our move they used our clothing as packing pack wardrobers with items in the house. Didn't have a lot of furniture to move. My brand new couch and chair ottoman button legs were all stuffed. Had a new bed chest they had it stuffed with a picture wall sconces and extra cloth so the leg was broke off and many other damage. The driver ask us not to report this damage he would take care of it. Well we trusted his word then when he found out the cost he backtracked. So we called the claims department and only received a fraction of damage. Driver lied and said this furniture was damage. Not true. These pieces were new. Mayflower is awful. Use anyone else.

We used Mayflower to move from Las Vegas to Atlanta, with pickup on a specific day and temporary storage until our new home was ready. The whole experience was very smooth. Our Mayflower coordinator maintained good contact throughout the entire process, the movers were on time for pickup and delivery, there were no surprises, and other than a couple of chips on the edge of one wooden headboard, everything arrived in good shape. This was a way better experience than we had with a different national company during our previous move. I'd definitely use Mayflower again.

Driver never contacted us as is protocol 2 days before scheduled pickup. Moving across country. We called our move coordinator to let her know. Asked for our driver's information for 48 hours prior to May 27. Nothing. Move day, a crew of 3 local employees from Armstrong brought a tiny truck to move a 3600 sf house. Had to drive him to U-Haul to rent a second truck! Took until almost 10 pm to load entire house because there was an only crew of 3 men. No driver on move day even though we confirmed with Armstrong/Mayflower we were set.
Currently it’s May 31st and we STILL have no driver and our entire house is sitting in a warehouse in Atlanta waiting for Mayflower to obtain a driver!!!! Our delivery window is June 2-9! We don’t feel this is professional and it’s extremely stressful! Moved across country with Mayflower four years ago no problem. Appears things have changed for the worst and we are left wondering if and when our house will be delivered with no recourse and no real answers. Think twice before engaging Armstrong/Mayflower and make sure your contract compensates you more than 100$/day for delays past your contracted range of dates!

Mayflower’s sales pitch rested heavily on their reputation for careful treatment of the possessions they move. In fact, during my recent cross-country move, they broke two legs of my pool table, scratched the surface of my wood dining table, lost two of the knobs of my bureau, and broke a part off my antique corn sheller. Their sales pitch also included the assertion that their quote included what they described in our meeting as “full replacement value” of my possessions. This turned out to be an extremely misleading description of the actual coverage, and their insurance division’s response was entirely unsatisfactory. Despite the fact that all of the damage was the result of the carelessness of their employees, their payment covered less than half my actual loss.

The worst possible, I wish I could leave a lower than one star rating.. Our driver James was lazy and arrogant, sat in the cab most of the time and allowed an inexperienced crew to unload and re-assemble our belongings asking me how to do it rather than asking the driver. One of the crew was complaining that he got into a bar fight the night before and spent the first 4 hours either in his car or in our bathroom, multiple items disappeared, items that did not belong to us were given to us, they could not figure out how to re-assemble our furnishings and at the end the driver said we "we spent enough time here, pack up" before they finished assembling items. These people were disgusting, I was given no weight tickets and had to sign that I received everything before being allowed to inventory what was delivered.
Our load was not to be taken off the truck until it arrived at our new home so the items must have been stolen off the truck the other stop that they were to make. We trusted them with our house full of belongings and this is what we got. Does absolutely no good to complain to Mayflower as they don't even respond. Save yourself the aggravation and choose another company as these people should not even be licensed.

I cannot stress this enough: Do not trust Mayflower/Chipman with your belongings. I hired them with the expectation that my items—especially rare, irreplaceable artwork—would be handled with care and professionalism. What I experienced was the complete opposite. Among the lost items were:
A rare 1st edition “Crazy for Cult” print by the renowned Glen Brogan
Additional pieces that were invaluable and deeply personal
Patio furniture, a rug, and multiple boxes of books
When I first signed with them, they were incredibly responsive and friendly. But the moment I signed the contract, their tone shifted completely. It felt less like I was a client and more like I was dealing with a debt collector. The experience only got worse: They showed up six hours early, completely unannounced, disrupting my entire moving day. They unpacked items that weren't even mine and I had to beg them to take those items back so they could get to the right person. As I started to unpack and settle in, I realized how much of my stuff was simply gone. And the cherry on top? After filing a claim, I received a check for $87.00. That’s right—eighty-seven dollars for thousands in lost property. They claim they don't use contractors—this is a lie. Both ends of my move were handled by contractors working through Chipman/Mayflower, who in turn had hired their own people. Their “no contracting” claim is pure marketing spin.
I feel absolutely taken advantage of. If I had known how awful this would be, I would have used a POD and packed everything myself. At least then I’d have some peace of mind. And if you still choose to use them despite this warning, take out every bit of insurance you can—Because you’ll need it when your inevitable claim is filed. If you value your belongings—especially anything rare, personal, or irreplaceable—DO NOT USE Mayflower / Chipman. You’ll regret it, just like I do.

I contacted Mayflower for a quote moving from Colorado to Mexico. The person I spoke told me that I would be contacted within a day from someone to arrange a walk through to obtain a quote (preliminary) for my pending move in the summer of 2026. The person that called me (from Chipman Corp phone number 510-748-8763) asked me if I knew the rules for moving internationally to Mexico. She kept misunderstanding the residence status. Seems to be continuously assuming that my wife and I were not US citizens for some prejudice reason (which we are) but not understanding the status of our Mexico residency (wife is Natural Mexican and I am a permanent resident). She really got stuck in the FM2 and FM3 paperwork (obviously she doesn't understand that these are Visa which I was continuously telling her that we meet the requirements. She continued to tell me that I was wrong, and I was unable to make the move.
I finally (losing my patience) told her that she is the only one of 6 moving companies who keeps telling me that I don't know what I am doing (should I mention that I am ex-military who used to move around every 2-3 years?). She simply responded to just use one of the other 6 moving companies. I then tried to call Mayflower to discuss the situation and see if I can be placed with someone else. I was placed with someone who keeps saying I am sorry but not understanding the situation. She said she will pass me to someone else and the call was disconnected.
This impression just let me to stop trying to contact Mayflower. Worst experience just trying to get a simple quote. What a waste of time! Horrible customer service and engagement process. Do not waste your time with a company with an attitude that they are too big to care for customer service. Nothing good can come up moving forward with a company with this type of engagement process.

Horrendous experience from start to finish; would definitely choose a different moving company next time, and will never do business with them again. They are shady and rude and fraudulent and completely incompetent. Movers were not punctual, fraudulently signed my signature on the inventory form I was never shown (where they had documented/catalogued most of my items as "worn" "damaged" "torn" from pick up itself). The company and moving coordinators were a pain to deal with (incompetent and entitled and vague in their pricing/asking for more money etc. before/after the shipment was delivered).
The shipment was delivered extremely damaged and it was apparent that they had not put any care into this move at all; when the damage was catalogued and sent to the claims team they mentioned either a flat out check for $500 (much lesser value than the items damaged even considering their depreciation after being bought) or a "full review" process where they couldn't guarantee on an ETA (and demanded that I keep the damaged items which was most of my large furniture/kitchen ceramics/all glass and decorative items unrepaired and unreplaced for their inspection "so they can confirm that the items were truly damaged in the move"); the items were packed undamaged (obviously no one would pack all their kitchenware/decorative things broken and shattered for a move and pay >5 thousand dollars to move them across the country, and the boxes were obviously in shambles and torn severely after the move like their contents inside...
What other proof was required other than the shipment boxes leaving undamaged when the movers collected them, and arriving completely damaged when the movers dropped them off? They clearly try to drag out the process and make it unpleasant/tedious so most people with jobs/commitments cannot follow through on the hassle/time/effort it takes to actually follow through their inefficient claims process). The prices kept on changing and there was discrepancy with the amounts quoted (higher and higher); then randomly 2 months after my move and payment, they sent an additional bill of $300 without explanation/nothing having changed in the transaction over months and demanded that I pay more. Was a terribly frustrating/fraudulent/bitter experience overall that I would not recommend to anyone else. Refused to send payment confirmation/invoice and were obnoxious when this was requested.

Terrible experience. From torn books to missing furniture legs to chipped and gauged wood, the packers and movers were careless with our items. As a woman dealing with this experience alone, I feel I was taken advantage of. When we filed a claim, they offered a $500 immediate payout (far less than the damaged value) or an undetermined future visit from someone who would determine if we were lying, which meant we needed to leave all our damaged items unfixed for an unknown amount of time. Mayflower relies on most people choosing convenience with the $500 so they can get on with their lives.
Overall, we were relatively devastated with how much of our furniture was damaged: a shattered floor-length mirror, a broken exercise machine, a tv with missing legs, countless damages books. They also packed two live, large plants, which I noted shouldn't go on the truck, and both were dead upon arrival. Because four men were loading furniture, there was no way I could watch everyone at once, nor did anyone check with me before loading plants, which are on the "cannot pack" list. Since Mayflower is supposed to be a dependable company, I'm not sure who you can hire who doesn't treat your things like garbage.

I’m giving this company Mayflower/Unigroup 1 star because it has been 9 months and I still do not have a settlement on my claim. I thought since this company had been around for a long time I had no worries in having all of my furniture moved from Kentucky to Tennessee. I hired MAYFLOWER and took out full value protection insurance because I have expensive furniture from Arhaus, Hooker, Ashley, Lane, Flex steel leather furniture, etc…
I do not understand what went wrong but most of my furniture was ruined. My black canopy bedroom suit had their blue felt blankets that had melted into the finish of my black 5 piece king bedroom suite. My Cosier black leather massage chair had all the leather ripped from top to bottom. They had large gashes and the finish was damaged on several areas of my tv console that was purchased from Burdorf’s Interiors. They totally destroyed my Tuscany dining table purchased from Arhaus with scratches all over the top. Had gashes and chips of wood out of the legs of table. They also damaged a couple of the dining chairs that was bought from Arhaus. A broken large clock, Scag Tiger Cat 2 lawn mower had a big gash out of the side. I didn’t even claim it because we sold it 2 months after it was delivered. It only had 25 hours. I could go on with all of the items that were damaged, but the list is too long.
I filed a claim within three weeks of having my furniture delivered. They give you up to nine months. I didn’t claim all items because I bought a stain pen and repaired about 5 large items myself. I know nothing is perfect so I only claimed items that were so damaged that it needed professional attention. I have been so distraught and couldn’t believe that my Furniture was so damaged. If I would have known I would have sold all of my furniture and when we moved into our new home in Tennessee bought new furniture.
I felt confident and trusted that my Furniture would make it with no issues. Mayflower??? That’s not the case. They have repaired some of the furniture and it has been satisfactory. It’s not perfect, but it looks good. I’m very happy that they did repair a lot of the furniture. They still should make a settlement offer of 20k and I would be satisfied and able to purchase a new table, massage chair, 2 area rugs that were damaged and the other items that were damaged. They tried to repair my dining table, but each time they would put a finish on it. It kept getting worse so after two attempts, I said no more. They are in possession of my dining table so at my new home, we have no dining table.
Now that we are down to the last few pieces such as my dining room table, my massage chair a couple of my thousand-dollar rugs they’re wanting to give me grief and they’re taking too long. They did make an offer 2 weeks ago but it was so low that it barely covered the purchase of replacement of my dining table. Waiting for another settlement offer because the first settlement offer was no good and I disputed the offer.
I will follow up on this complaint to let customers know before they hire this company how my situation turns out. Mayflower/ Unigroup Team 10 (Cheryl) said today that they would be sending me a second settlement offer and it would be here by 5:30 PM. It is 9:30 PM and I’ve still not received. It’s Friday. They’re not back in the office until Monday. Hopefully, I don’t have to go to small claims court, or the BBB but I will follow up on this review and let you know how it turns out. I paid a lot of extra money for the Full Value Protection Insurance. So far they’re not taking responsibility of some of the damaged items. Hopefully, this will change soon.

Our experience with Mayflower has been a heartbreaking nightmare. Our belongings were packed/loaded in June, then sat in a warehouse because the driver’s truck broke down. After this delay, the driver fell asleep at the wheel on a highway going 75mph + and crashed/flipped the semi truck on our delivery day, causing extensive damage to almost all of our belongings. The crashed trailer sat in a wrecking yard in the Texas summer heat for almost 3 weeks while Mayflower haggled with the tow yard to save a buck. We were left without our belongings for 5 weeks before they were finally delivered (original estimate was 7-10 days).
It's been two months since the accident, and we still haven’t received any compensation for our damaged items. Our toddler has been sleeping on a mattress on the floor since June, we’ve been using our couch which has oil spills all over it, and our garage is full to the brim of our destroyed belongings. It’s been a heartbreaking experience for our family.
Over this time, we’ve done what Mayflower has asked which has meant itemizing nearly 300 damaged items for their “inspector” to review. They’ve sent an inspection team out twice already. Each inspection was supposed to be “comprehensive” but their inspectors have only managed to hang around long enough to examine about half of our damaged items. To make matters worse, they refuse to refund us any portion of the moving costs as required by the bill of lading contract, despite them damaging or destroying nearly everything we own.
Dealing with them has become a full time job. Their claims team that deals with catastrophic events has been nothing but robotic and unsympathetic. It’s very clear their priority is trying to save the company money rather than doing the ethical thing and fixing the mess they’ve created by FLIPPING A SEMI TRUCK. I don’t know how they sleep at night. For their own sake, I hope they never find themselves on the other side of the phone attempting to deal with their own colleagues.

I had to leave for the airport that evening well they were still putting my belongings in the truck. I had some trusted friends there to make sure that everything got on the truck. I had hired some of Mayflower's packers to pack up my business. I was donating a lot of my furniture to a church. I had various shelving with products and ingredients etc. I also had two dressers that had ingredients to make my products and they must have thought that the dressers were going to be moved with my other belongings and they put they put the saran wrap around the dressers and didn't unpack the drawers and I'm finding this out two years later.
I was injured shortly after I moved into my new house and had to have spine surgery so I have been unable to unload these boxes. In addition do not getting all my belongings the husband and wife that were driving the truck didn't put all my belongings in there. They said it was too full because they took on another job. So they just left a lot of my belongings there at the house. I paid Mayflower to move everything but they didn't do that. I had to pay another $4,000 to get the rest of my belongings that should have been on the truck to me and here in Arizona. This is absurd. I told Mayflower about this and that I wanted to be reimbursed for the $4,000 because it should have come with the first truck. All I got was a rude assistant and was never reimbursed. At this point now that I'm discovering that I'm missing so much personal property I'm going to take them to court. Okay I have a receipt.

They lost multiple handmade imported rugs - including 2 Persian rugs - through gross incompetence, and their insurance, which we paid extra for, refused to cover the cost because we couldn't produce receipts. All told, they lost or destroyed $6000 worth of inventory on an 11k move.

I understand that people have bad days; but Stephen ** and his team showed up 2 hours late, complained the entire time, yelled at me and did not complete the inventory list. We were given different reasons as to why they were late: Heather told me there was an issue with the truck and Stephen told me he had to take care of his wife’s dog. When I offered to let his dog hang out in the backyard with ours, he told me that his dog would be way too afraid of my aggressive dogs. We have an Aussie mix and a Shepherd mix and they’re both known for being big sweethearts.
As for the move itself, I noted multiple items that were not tagged and the movers on the other end had to maneuver crates where it did not come across like the truck had been organized for a long distance move. The mattresses were not listed at all in the inventory, so we were unsure if they even made it until we opened the crate that they were in. We’re still missing several boxes due to the lack of organization with their inventory and had to buy new screws for the beds and dining table because they didn’t make a parts box. Not to mention the extra work that their lack of communication and unwillingness to work with me caused for them and the movers on the other end. They packed items from the rental that I am now going to have to mail back to the owner. That happens but very much could have been avoided.
Despite all of this, I bought Stephen and his team lunch and chose not to react to their rude comments because my only goal was to get us moved. I will say, I’m in my mid-thirties and haven’t been called “young lady” in years. Stephen was also adamant that I sign a waiver, saying that we don’t have anything over $1,000 in our inventory (we do), to ensure that any damages wouldn’t come out of his pocket. I understand not wanting to be liable but I offered to wrap the items, myself, multiple times and asked what more we could do to protect the items. They kept yelling at me that the $35 wall art wasn’t wrapped properly while I was more concerned about the couch, the tvs, the mattresses, etc.
The movers on the other end were very polite and professional but unfortunately the first team’s lack of attention to detail made their job 10 times harder. Not only was this terrible customer service but it was an even worse operational performance. I would not recommend moving forward if it is this same team in Colorado.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! What a HUGE mistake using this company for our interstate move!! When our items arrived, and after unpacking, multiple items and boxes were missing. Some they found and delivered more than 6 weeks later and some items that they have still not taken responsibility for replacing. What a disappointing experience!
