If you want to overpay, have them not show up on time, damage all your personal belongings, not own up to any insurance claims or take any responsibility then Bekins Moving company is the right moving company for you. Beware of this company, do not use them if you want the worst experience ever in moving. I used them for a long haul move and it was a disaster from beginning to end.

A-1. Their packing was very good, timing was excellent. Employees did a neat job, and as a result for the first time no breakage, and no “missing items.” the truck was punctual in picking up as well as the final delivery, good job!!!!

Updated on 08/22/2020: I wrote a review about my CD's missing Aug 13 and I need to adjust that review. I had a friend help me pack for the move. He thought it would be funny if he took my CD's to see how long it would take me to realize they were missing!!! NOT FUNNY!!! So, I must apologize to Bekins for suggesting that they had taken my CD's. They still destroyed my coffee table and took some things apart for no apparent reason and lost the parts.
Original Review: Bekins Van Lines moved me in July. They picked up my "stuff" on Tuesday and delivered on Wednesday. They busted up my coffee table beyond repair. Today Aug 13, I was picking out a CD to play and the plastic container was empty! I proceeded to look at my other CDs and I found over 62 CD containers empty!!!! They stole over $1000 of CDs!! I also found a foot locker that was empty when it had some small tools in it. They also took things apart that did not need to be taken apart and the screws and parts are missing. DO NOT hire Bekins Van Lines in Woodbridge, VA!!!! I have called them several times about these issues and they will not call me back!!!! They are the worst moving company I have ever used. If you care about your "stuff", don't hire them!!!!

I recently relocated to Baton Rouge Louisiana from LUBBOCK Texas, and contracted through our local Hart Moving company who arranged a long distance van from Bekins-Wheaton to pick our home belongings on May 15 2020. Delivery was made May 20th, and a very expensive piece of astronomy equipment was inadvertently left on the truck. I have been in phone and text contact with the driver, a "Rocky" ** of the San Antonio area, multiple times to try and arrange to get my equipment back. "Rocky" has repeatedly lied to my face, made up excuses and strung me along now for a month.
I made a special effort to be at home last evening when he had again promised to show up, but he was once again a no-show. He has since failed to respond to texts or calls. This unprofessional and frankly passive-agressive behavior is humiliating and unacceptable. If you value your possessions and want to have a decent experience with your move, AVOID THIS COMPANY. I REPEAT; AVOID THIS COMPANY.

If you are looking for a reputable moving company may I recommend you keep looking???? This company is TOTALLY unethical! Let me tell you about MY experience! My husband and I spent almost $16,000 to be moved from Texas to North Carolina. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer the DAY before we moved. We immediately began treatments at Duke Cancer center which delayed my unpacking as I had much more important things to worry about. Sadly my husband passed away a few weeks ago.
In looking through our paperwork with Bekins it states that you have one year from the date of your move to file a claim - BUT what they DON'T tell you is UPON DELIVERY when YOU SIGN RECEIPT OF DELIVERY YOU ARE STATING YOU HAVE RECEIVED EVERYTHING AND THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE!!!! How can anyone expect you to sign stating you have received everything before you have even opened the first box???? We were missing several valuable items and they have refused to pay one cent! I cannot stress enough to you that I would never use or recommend this company in any way!!! The movers walked off with our belonging and they aren't responsible???? On top of that some of our furnishing was damaged and they refuse to cover that either. Please, do yourself a favor and keep looking for a trustworthy moving company. Never will I use these people again!

We had many preventable problems that arose by Bekins personnel undoing wrapping, overstuffing a truck, not following contracted directions and using drugs. The claims process is one of pass the ball and sign away your rights. Instead of being helpful it seems designed to shift from one person to the next. Example: the claim person cannot communicate about missing items. She simply sends me an email telling me to get in touch with yet another person. They try to get you to file one claim as it is better for them. What about me? Many of the numbers applied by the packing team were removed by others along the way of my interstate move.
We paid to have a soft sided hot tub used for my arthritis to be wrapped and shipped flat with nothing on top. It arrived on its side, unwrapped with boxes on top. Broken!! Bekins personnel unwrapped the blankets, boxes and other protective wrapping we paid to have applied to our things when the packing was done by Bekins personnel at our home. Removal of that wrapping also removed the numbers. This made it nearly impossible to track what was derived against the numbered roster. This was done to stuff more things into an overcrowded truck. We never received calls as promised about when the delivery was coming. More wasted time for us.
When the driver did finally arrive around noon, there was not sufficient help for the move (as we had been promised there would be). The driver only had one helper. This helper reeked of ** and in fact continued to smoke ** throughout the offloading process. When I reported this to Mary ** she said ”I have no proof”. I reported this because the helper was very rough with our possessions including throwing things around in the truck. I was also concerned that he would hurt himself. Mary did not seem concerned. I am not aware that ** is legal in Florida.
The driver was not aware of the two parts of the move to a house and storage unit. Details which had been provided to Bekins and its representatives again and again. The damage that has occurred was avoidable. It was quite apparent that the driver (or other Bekins personnel) had unwrapped many of the carefully wrapped items in order to stuff more in the truck. Furniture that we paid to have wrapped in blankets then in shrink wrapped and often labeled as fragile arrived without the blankets and occasionally in shrink wrap. Numbers of items were removed by this unwrapping process.
My golf clubs which were boxed at our home were unwrapped and bent into shrink wrap. A chrome table which was carefully wrapped in blankets then shrink wrapped not only had the blankets removed but several boxes had been stuffed between its shelves scratching and damaging the surface. There were not enough people to offload the truck. The ladder used to unload was rickety and too short necessitating one of the two men offloading to climb up into the truck on top of all the boxes and other items further crushing them!
The “walls” sequestering the items of one person from another were ineffective sheets of plywood which were hanging over in the truck. In fact, we were given another person’s items which we gave back to the driver. At the end of the second location offloading we were missing a large rug and pad. I looked up and saw it in another section of the truck with another person's items. We persuaded the driver to get them but find this absolutely horrible considering what we were promised. And items of ours remain missing. We were also to have received the weight of the shipment but have not even yet received those numbers. Bekins says they are a top company which holds themselves to a higher standard, taking care of customers every step of the way, does background checks on employees... I experienced none of this. I give them the top moving nightmare award!!

This was my 3rd move across the country. Previously, I’ve used Allied Vans which was outstanding. To save a few dollars, I chose Bekins. Huge and costly mistake from start to finish!!! They would not give me move out dates unless I paid an additional $150.00 as well as final destination dates. This caused me to spend more on hotel and airfare. The movers at my final destination just dropped boxes and furniture wherever they wished without me inspecting anything. Then I had to remind them over and over to send my $100.00 rebate. Don’t waste your money buying insurance. You won’t get a penny out of these scammers for damages. I highly recommend Allied to anyone going through a long distance move, Allied is very professional.

Do NOT recommend Bekins which is now owned by another enterprise, apparently. Too many bad experiences to list. When a company cannot track the truck in route with a driver who took a detour with my items and was out of contract, to trying to get information or a sense of accountability from corporate or agent, to broken items, to complete lack of response by corporate, etc, etc. In addition, I’m out of pocket hundreds of dollars for their delayed delivery and my work schedule and daycare costs. BAD BUSINESS!!

Horrible from start to finish. Bekins admitted from day one that they were at fault, but due to a lack of customer service and the inability of Bekins employees to speak to one another, we got hosed. Nothing like spending thousands of dollars on a move and the be treated like somebody who never spent a dime there. Avoid this company, and its parent company - Wheaton Van Lines - who handle their customer complaints. They are only interested in your $$$ and have the customer service skills of a burnt out 40 year old working the drive thru just before closing.

We used Bekins Van Lines to pack, store and deliver our entire household. We had a Bekins representative come to our home to determine to pack and crate. Our large sofa was not discussed. We took out the maximum insurance they offered. Several articles delivered were broken or lost. Our large sofa was broken and the wool fabric torn. We had it appraised for possible repair and recovering at their request. They then asked us to find a similar sofa and fabric online with prices and send to them - which we did. They then had a company they work with come and take the sofa to see if they could repair and recover the sofa. What we heard from them was we should have crated the sofa before moving and they would not reimburse us even though we were insured. This company is not to be trusted!

This review is specific to Bekins Transfer & Storage located at 201 Windsor Road, Pottstown, PA 19464. I contracted with Bekins for my June move from Philadelphia to Denver based on prior experience. This was a disaster from start to finish. The sub-contractor they used claimed to be the consummate professional, turned out he was anything but. My belongings were delivered to a storage unit here in Denver. I had reported to Bekins the condition of many of the boxes I’d received, crushed and severely damaged. I did not have the opportunity to inspect all of my belongings when they were delivered. I just moved and all of my belongings were taken from storage to my new apartment.
Virtually every piece of furniture has been scratched or damaged. Pieces of my dresser had broken off and were put into a drawer. My two stereo racks have significant scratches and broken corners. The bookcase has several scratches. My four dining chairs look as though they were dragged across the floor. There were scratches and marks all over my two steel desk frames, it took me hours to get rid of them. It would be easier to list what hasn’t been damaged, since that would be virtually nothing.
I have to say, I have never in all my years and a dozen moves seen results like this. It is clear that no care was taken with my belongings. I should have known, since they didn’t use a single blanket, pad, or any shrink wrap when loading and unloading. The "professional" mover criticized my packing and blamed the boxes (Home Deport heavy duty), but the only things that weren’t damaged were the items that I packed myself.
This experience has been the exact opposite of my prior move with Bekins, and they should be embarrassed by this. I've subsequently emailed them and, not surprisingly, have not had any reply. I have one or two moves left in my life, needless to say Bekins will not be considered. I’ve told all of my friends to avoid Bekins at all costs going forward.

Antiques were destroyed. Things broke and people like that should be held accountable. There is a special place for people like that. I was hospitalized 2 weeks before my move. So, I was not able to pack all my belongings. I was told that they would do that for me, but they did not pack anything. They just left it. This was a long distance move from NY to GA. They arrived a few minutes before I left for the airport. Someone I knew stayed behind to make sure they did the job. Unbeknownst to me, I was told the movers just omitted whatever they did not want, to take even though that item like my washer and dryer were on their list, to move. They left that behind and a whole lot more. I had shelving and a fabric bolt that didn't even make the truck, as well because it was in the basement. After, living 7 months, in a hotel I was shocked, as I unpacked, I began to notice that a lot of my belongings were gone. As a disabled, single mother this was a major loss for me. I have yet to replace those things.

We used Bekins for a small move to a storage locker where they came in, wrapped everything and appeared to do a good job until items were moved, lots of scratches!!! We used them to move a small number of items from the storage locker, a couple of beds, living room furniture, gym equipment and some boxes. Terrible!! They did not wrap any furniture so my white couches (yes I know, but they had been moved before and stayed mostly clean) had filthy, filthy hand prints all over them.
As we were moving into a new house still filled with trades, I was distracted with questions from our electrician at the time of paying my bill and gave the Bekins fellow my credit card, which he put thru. I was shocked to see, on a 5 hour moving job with 3 fellows (value of just over $1100) an insurance fee of $440.00 which I never authorized. This was not mentioned when I called for a quote, which I discussed over the phone and approved the hourly fee, nor was it brought to my attention when I paid the bill. I would not have ever bought the insurance. When I called the company they basically said "too bad". This insurance is a scam!! When I mentioned the very filthy hand prints the guy just laughed. I’m not sure whether another awful review makes any difference or not, but I have to get this off my chest. My wife and I have moved across country six times and I can state unequivocally that this most recent move was almost unbelievably terrible. Among other things, although we had signed a contract to move almost a year earlier, when the time came and our house finally closed, our agent announced that he could not supply us with any packers! So it fell upon my wife and me to pack up a 4500 square-foot home, even though we were now living almost 3000 miles away. In the midst of all this, we had a family medical crisis, so we essentially had to walk away from dozens of items, cumulatively worth thousands of dollars. The folks who bought our old house were more than happy to keep it all.
When the truck driver and his crew arrived, virtually every item that they loaded was described as scratched, dented, faded, cracked, worn. So when the time came to unpack, there was no way to verify any damage. We had family heirlooms that were broken; when I submitted a request for reimbursement, the sum that was provided was paltry to say the least. I submitted a claim to their “customer service representative,” describing all of the above. She was completely indifferent. She sent me a check with no hint of an apology. I sent the check back with an even longer letter, then got the same check back with, once again, no apology. I sent copies of my correspondence with Bekins to the Better Business Bureau of Indiana and also of Washington state. Lord knows it probably won’t make any difference. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from Bekins.

Seriously, this is NOT someone you want to do business with. As former military, we have moved many, many times. We had more furniture damage on this move than all our prior moves combined. We used Bekins, which is owned by Wheaton, and they made a great sales pitch. It was all BS. They low-balled the weight estimate. They mixed our goods with another customer's goods on the truck. If you use this company, they will lose your stuff; they will break your stuff and they truly don't care. When we discovered a box was missing and asked for help locating it, the driver actually said "I don't have time for this crap."

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE AND NEVER USE THEM. EXPENSIVE AND AWFUL. Bekins "forgot" to load 2 pieces of carefully-marked furniture that had sentimental and antique value. They destroyed an antique gilded mirror by insisting it should go in a mirror box instead of a crate. They shipped boxes of unwanted books that I now have sitting in our garage. The man who took our order got fired before the shipment got collected and he had all of the pertinent information that was then ignored. We bought insurance, but now are told that does not apply to them leaving items that then were disposed of by the cleaning service. A terrible experience and I hope no one else suffers this same way.

In short, do not use this company for interstate moves. They do not care about you or your belongings. I will detail my issues for perspective. 4/2/2019. We had Bekins and Oz moving come to our home for moving quote for a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment between Los Angeles, CA and Boca Raton, FL. Bekins cost more but offered a shorter delivery window. We also requested storage while we looked for a home in Florida. 5/3/2019. Our move out date that would allow us extra time for our items to travel cross country before my husband started his new job on 5/20. Our guaranteed arrival date was 5/17. 5/9/2019. We have yet to receive any itinerary of the items that were moved, no weight quote, nothing. We call and are told that no one will be able to tell us where the truck is until the following Monday, 5/13. If anyone is counting, that means our items will have been gone for 10 days with no accountability.
5/13/2019. We are told our truck is in Colorado. Colorado is not close to Florida and much closer to California. We are 4 days out from our guaranteed date. 5/15-5/29/2019. We have called and harassed Bekins on a daily basis for the last 2 weeks and our items (supposedly) have traversed the country at a glacial pace. As of yesterday, (5/28/2019) we received word that our truck was in Orlando. JUST KIDDING. It's in North Carolina! 26 days without our things.
26 days without furniture. 26 days of living out of a suitcase and we still don't have our things. This company does not care about you or your belongings. Please read the other Yelp reviews to see that this is not a one off. Please hire any other company to move you cross country. My heart is breaking to know that they probably lost all my belongings and don't have the cojones to admit it. We celebrated my son's first birthday in a hotel room instead of our furnished apartment as planned. We have had to purchase new clothing because our clothing is g-d knows where. Learn from our mistakes. Wish me luck. 26 days and still counting.

From what I have experienced...
1. Wheaton van lines/Bekins packs your boxes with a vague label description so that once the boxes go missing you will have no idea what has been lost.2. If a full delivery cannot be made and they are liable for paying you for a late delivery reimbursement, Wheaton/Bekins delivers the heaviest items first so that they can claim that the majority of the weight has been delivered and thus avoid the penalty reimbursement.
3. Even if you purchase total replacement cost insurance and Wheaton/Bekins loses boxes, they will try to pin it back on you and state they are not liable for missing boxes.
4. The claims agents will boldly lie unless you document everything with emails.

All went ok until movers arrived at destination with missing inventory items (expensive drill set and designer backpack, tote, pillows etc.) and damaged furniture. I specifically got full replacement insurance for this purpose and paid extra for it. Then the claims process began. I showed them where missing items could be purchased. They found other lower prices from unheard of websites and wanted to pay lower prices than Amazon and did not want to reimburse me for taxes and shipping, not to mention warranty expenses.
Further, the two most expensive items that were missing, which their own driver said must have been stolen, they are refusing to reimburse me stating that if I think they were stolen go file a police report. It's insane... They picked up a drill-set and designer bag, then did not deliver it at destination, and now are saying go file a police report and deal with it yourself: No reimbursement!! What they forgot to tell me is that the insurance company WVLCorp.com is their own. Movers also damaged walls of my BRAND NEW apartment... Reimbursement offered was $100. I have never worked with a more shady company than Bekins and A and P Moving. They came out and gave us an estimate for our move out of state and for using their storage services for 3 months. Mr. ** underestimated the weight by half! So they kept our belongings in their storage facility for months without ever giving us the courtesy of a phone call to let us know that the cost of our move would double! Additionally, A and P Moving sold us an insurance package and told us we could cancel it anytime before the moving truck left their warehouse in Novato, which we did. Once the truck arrived at our new home, the driver was told not to unload until we paid for the insurance, another $600!
The driver also told us that the insurance was cancelled prior to him leaving the warehouse and he didn't know why he was being told not to unload. I contacted Bekins directly for an explanation as to how a bid could be off by half and they refused to acknowledge the unethical business practices used by A and P Moving. Ultimately Bekins just stopped responding after my first response to their lack of explanation. I have a hard time believing that this was an accident. We hired Bekins based on their good faith estimate for our move. This estimate was given in our home after a thorough inspection of our possessions. Bekins sent 2 people to pack our 5 bedroom home, one of whom changed daily and was often their FIRST DAY ON THE JOB. THE PACKING WAS SHODDY AND THEY STAYED AT OUR HOME TILL 11PM the night before the move. STILL DID NOT REALLY COMPLETE THE JOB. The loaders and my family were still packing the morning the truck arrived.
Upon arrival at our new home we were told that the amount would be 40 PERCENT MORE and that we had to pay at least 10 percent of that ON THE SPOT or our items would not be unloaded. I contacted Bekins for weeks trying to resolve this financial dispute, and when I finally received a callback, they said since it is not a binding estimate we had to pay what they claimed we owed. I have spent months in dispute with them only to end up paying almost 30 percent more than quoted. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I hired Bekins to pack and move me from Palm Beach, FL to NJ. I interviewed three movers and while they were the most expensive, the good online ratings moved me to hire them. I have expensive furniture and art and expressed concern about the move from the beginning. To ensure the safety of my items, I purchased an additional $50k insurance.
The packers and movers in FL were fine. Once the items left my home, the problems started. Communication challenges -- 1) I called re arrival of my items/delivery date in NJ and they couldn't tell me. 2) I heard from them less than 24 hours before they were delivering and I was told I had no choice -- the delivery date and time were not negotiable. 3) Unreliable staff bookings-- the delivery truck showed up and the driver and I were left waiting for 2 hours for manpower to unpack the truck. There was a miscommunication and booked the 3 person team for another job in NYC and ended up only sending 2 movers to my home -- making for a very long day.
Damaged goods -- Multiple large furniture items were damaged -- soiled and from using moving tape directly on the items. I photographed each item. Unfair claims policy -- You cannot submit more than one claim. So rather than immediately sending my claim, I had to wait until everything was unpacked. Due to life circumstances, this took some time. Knowing my expensive furniture was soiled and not wanting the stains to set in, I hired a professional cleaner. Thankfully, the cleaner was able to remove the stains.
I submitted the dated photographs and the cleaning bill and I was refused reimbursement -- despite the extra insurance -- b/c I didn't follow their policy of waiting. I am glad I didn't wait as the cleaning bill was far less than replacement of even one item. The other items I made claims on and didn't repair didn't fare much better. They spent time and monies sending an inspector -- more time from me away from work. They then provided a fraction of the replacement value. I now need to spend time hiring a repair person to attend to their mistakes. And to add insult to injury, this entire process took more than 8 weeks. Unclear what the extra insurance costs provided beyond my spending more money with them. Extremely disappointed. I would NOT recommend or rehire. Grateful more items weren't damaged in the move.

We have done four major moves cross country in my lifetime. We have used several large corporations with very little issue. This last move we chose BEKINS to move from Miami to Los Angeles. This is been the worst experience from start to finish. Not only were they not able to have enough room on one truck for all of our items, we had to wait for a second delivery truck to come a week later with our remaining belongings.
During the course of the move several things were damaged including a spin bike, two floor lamps etc... But the most alarming thing is I had over $24,000 worth of high-end watches and jewelry stolen from me. When I asked to have a list of all the names and contact information for the police report the moving company was not able to provide all the names of the people that were in my home. They allowed illegal packers and movers in my home. It's very unsettling knowing that the people have not had background checks done and were able to steal my items without the company knowing who these people are without being able to track them. Total invasion of my privacy and security of my family.
These people could probably come back at any given time to my home to rob or harm us. I made a police report and filed a claim with the moving company and all they want to do is settle for $445. On top of that claim address was given to me wrong, spent 10.00 to go to wrong address certified, called asked about claim was told never received wrong address, another 10.00 to send copies. Now I have a garage full of damaged items and no reimbursement and the runaround. Second time I used them left the damaged slide first time not this time way to much damage, when they unloaded into the garage they piled things high in front of other things so you could not see anything. You can't climb on top of boxes to see the back of the garage.

The person who came to our house to give us an estimate was not straightforward with their method of pricing. First of all he used their Bill of Lading to fill out the pricing and spilled his coffee on our copy so that it was not legible. He asked if we wanted extra coverage and gave us a choice from three different amounts--the middle being $250. Never did he say this was a deductible and if anything was broken that we would have to pay this amount before it would get repaired.
Also, we were charged $304 for this $250 deductible which did not come to light that we had been charged $304 since they did not provide a copy of the estimate until weeks after our move. We were never given the yellow copy which turned out to be the estimate. Not until a complaint was filed with the BBB was this copy provided and they insisted it was filled out and given to us on the day the man came to our house. That was a lie. They also did not provide us with an invoice until after the complaint was filed. They refused to repair the broken desk until we paid the $250 which they called a deductible.
I refuse to pay them any more money as they also tried to stick me with the amount it cost them when one uses a credit card even though they only accepted that type of payment. They also charged my credit card several days before the move took place. I would advise anyone considering using this company to do a lot of research and make sure you get copies of every document they fill out as they are a very dishonest company. My roll top desk will not be repaired by them as I refuse to pay them any more money.

What I did not know is once they have the furniture you are at their mercy to charge you whatever they want. And they did charge me $10,000 to deliver.

I was initially prepared to give Bekins high marks and I was very happy with the driver. I used them for a major cross country move. He treated my belongings as if they were his own. My problems came from using their packing service. I had multiple items disappear. They were not inside the boxes with the rooms with which they should have been packed. I had just one item get broken due to being packed improperly. When I contacted their claims department they said that they would do a trace for missing items, but if I suspected theft I needed to furnish them with the receipts for the times and also do a police report for theft of property. I did all of the above.
After complying with all of the extra paperwork they said that their people did not admit to taking the items and that I signed for all of my boxes, even though they understood that no boxes are ever opened when one signs for the initial drop off. The Watch Commander at my local police station said that it was an exercise in futility, that this happens all the time, and that a poor moving company will not accept responsibility. He said that he always recommends that people who suffer these losses take the moving companies to small claims court. After doing what they asked in gathering all of the extra paperwork the claims representative told me that Bekins would not take responsibility for any possible theft by their employees. I would not use this company again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else.

Prestige Van Lines moved my household items from Kentucky to Texas in August of 2017. Upon all of my household items being loaded onto a rental truck, I was told that I need to pay the driver an additional 4K in CASH to "guarantee the delivery of my household items to Texas". This was on top of the initial agreed upon pick up amount. I refused to pay them and sure enough, they rifled through our personal items and stole my son's entire wardrobe and all of his Nike shoe collection (we did receive some of the empty boxes). They damaged and broke every piece of furniture that I had which was all less than a year old. They have offered a settlement of $64.00. This amount doesn't even cover the photos that I had to print off and the of the claim due to them not accepting electronic payments.
Upon deliver of my items, I had a cashier's check, as requested. When the driver arrived to deliver my items, he told me they would only take cash and that if I didn't give him cash, they would take my stuff with them and charge me an additional $200/day for storage fees. They are stealing from the consumer and are somehow getting away with this and it needs to stop! Amir was fully involved in this and told me that my items were routed to NJ for "reworking and loading on a different truck". What really took place is that they helped themselves to our property. Boxes that I personally packed and sealed and been opened and resealed. I found other personal baby photos of some man named "Eddy" in my personal boxes. I'm a single mom and feel as if they targeting me as I would make an easy victim. This is a perfect example of extortion!

We secured & paid for parking spaces. 3 hours later they did not show. I called. They said that I had the wrong date. I said “no way. I confirmed 2 days prior and I have the contract and email to prove that I was correct“! Finally they showed hours later which put us behind because we were driving! I called five days after arriving at our destination. I was again told it would be another 5 days!!!
Meanwhile we are sleeping on air mattresses and eating take-out! Finally the delivery day. The movers show only to pull from a Bekins truck, wet mattresses & box springs, wet cardboard boxes and the driver who was the driver that quit on our moving day was mortified! He made several call to his employer at NCP and was told that he would compensate us for the damages! I took pictures of the damages and emailed both North Country Pickers and Bekins! I prepaid the charges like a fool! NEVER PREPAY! We lost a few photos, we are missing a box labeled kitchen.
My daughter zip tied a wicker chest with drawers as it contain private, personal info such as social security # tax returns and her nursing license number. Someone cut the zip ties!!! I waited 5 days expecting a call to discuss the issues... None came from either comp. I called Bekins, left messages, no one called. The following week I called again and actually spoke with a person. After exposing how I felt and the disappointment she said she would call me back. When she did call me she offered $150 for our “troubles”. She wasn’t at all sympathetic and I told her that Bekins truck caused the damages and that nothing had been wrapped as promised! So, a $150 dollars is an insult. I will do as many reviews as I can! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! NEVER PREPAY and do not hire Bekins or The North Country Pickers!!!

Never did he explain that their policy is to ONLY pay 70 cents per pound per item. We filed a claim for 2,064.76 for our damaged and lost items and they paid us 210.00! They completely destroyed two very large art pieces and told us to get a replacement estimate, we did, it came to 1368.00, they paid us 72.00! Our burl wood TV stand was scratched beyond repair, the replacement value was 499.00, they paid 68.00!
The company uses deceptive tactics to reel in customers then screws them over in the end. We had Maffucci come out and give us a quote for moving our belongings 5 miles from a house to an apt. We packed up the house ourselves. We agreed on the price and proceeded with the move. The movers were pretty good. Easy to work with and works to please you. Before they left (they had a small load that went to our daughter's house that was 2.5 miles away), they tried to get my daughter's Visa, she refused. BIG WARNING!!! Our problem began when 2 days after the move, we get a call that our final bill was 50% more than what we were told. They went ahead and took the money out of our account before we could see an ITEMIZED statement. They sent us a worthless invoice that told us nothing. We called our bank and stopped payment but the owner MR. LEVINE submitted a phony document that somehow had our signature on it. The bank ok'd the payment.
We took them to small claims court where our case was heard by a mediator. If we didn't like his decision then we could then go in front of a judge. The day we went to court, Mr. Levine (who is very much a pro at this, as seen by his actions), sends his bookkeeper to sit and wait until our case was going to be heard. When it came time to going in, the snake shows up. What came out of this case was that this jerk had a second quote that was for more than 50% of the original quote. He also said we used 50 of his boxes. That was an out and out lie. We bought our boxes except for 6. It clearly was fraud. I have never, ever in my life ever felt so cheated, so violate as I have with my experience with this company. We somewhat won, as they couldn't even add the numbers right for labor. Overall we lost a lot of money and I mean a lot. Almost $10, 000 to pack a pod up, move 5 miles and drop off at my daughter's 2.5 miles away.
We had another company quote us for a few hundred more than Maffucci. So we felt what we paid was fair. Mr. Levine lied, committed fraud. It's just not right. I will never, ever use this company again, nor will I recommend them. Mr. Levine, the biggest snake I know, cheated us out of our money and then lied and presented phony documents. He's a pro at going to court, he knows what to do. Please just do your homework, really look into moving companies. Don't read the reviews on FB or his website. Of course he won't post the complaints. I thought I did my homework but I was so wrong. My husband found many complaints about Levine charging way in excess of the quoted price. If I can save one person from using this moving company, then I did my job. I just hope that it won't be just one!!!

I moved from California to Pennsylvania in June. I chose Bekins because they gave me the tightest delivery window. Little did I know that their contract was a lie. They took my goods, kept them in CA for a while then shipped them with a trucker. Their delivery was 6 days after the last date in the delivery window. As others have mentioned, Bekins/Wheaton seems to be just a shell. They broke 75% of my wood furniture. I had rented several storage units and they crammed the bulk of my goods into the easy drive-up unit. As a result, the door jammed and most of my household goods are 100% inaccessible. Nobody knows how to extricate my goods when I move into my home in 4 weeks.
I had asked the driver not to cram all of this into the unit since I needed some space in order to get estimates for the repairs and I also had 2 climate controlled units. Putting things in climate control takes a bit longer since there are doors and hallways versus a drive-up. Bekins will not help to fix the problem that they created. I would never recommend them. We used Bekins for a move in June 2017. It was an absolutely miserable experience. They broke down every piece of furniture we owned, which was expected and fine. The problem was, they took all the separate pieces and parts of our furniture and put them in different boxes that they did not label. This has made it excruciatingly difficult to sort and reassemble our furniture on the other end -- particularly because we've downsized and needed to put half the boxes in storage. It's been over a month since the move and we still have no idea where critically important pieces and parts to our furniture are located. One example: they disconnected the power cord from our television and then put it in a completely separate box that was not labeled in any way.
This meant that we couldn't have our cable set up until the power cord was found. It took nearly three weeks of searching through boxes before we were able to find that power cord. Why did they even detach it in the first place?!? That is just one example, but it applies to nearly every piece of furniture and equipment we own. I've had to reorder all of the hardware from the manufacturers for most of our furniture. This whole process has been a complete and utter DISASTER! The worst part is, when I've called Bekins customer service to explain what happened, they don't even have the basic decency to answer or return a phone call. Stay away from this company at all costs. There have to be better alternatives than this.

This company falsely represented its model of business. They claim they are an all-inclusive company that moves your items from place to place but they don't actually operate a single thing. They are simply a brokerage firm that sells your contract with them to the highest bidder (one of those tiny independent companies with terrible reviews online that cannot get business with their name that you were desperately trying to avoid in the first place).
I was promised a strict move date and arrival as my schedule is very rigid and if any issues arose or anything was damaged they would handle it. Two days before my move, a strange company I had never heard of called and told me they would be handling my move and that they couldn't accommodate my dates. They didn't apologize or try to work with me, they just informed me that my dates were not valid and that they would get my belongings on their own schedule. I was livid as it was far too late to find a new company at this point.
When I tried to get an agent at Bekins Van Lines to help me they were all unavailable. I called and called and no one would talk to me about problems with a move. Finally, I called from a different line pretending I was a new customer and someone was immediately available to take my business. Furious, I told that person I was actually a dissatisfied customer who need the help that was promised should issues come up and threatened to cancel the contract and get an attorney as my dates were included in writing. They found another driver who would work with me (albeit from another unknown company that was not Bekins Van Lines).
The day of the move, I waited all morning and no one came. Nervous and stressed out of my mind, I called Bekins Van Lines again and told them that the apartment building I lived in was planning to kick me out that day and would have all my belongings disposed off at my cost if I was not gone by evening (which was the truth). They sent a crew out of day laborers and took my things and impounded them at a storage facility where they remained for weeks and would not give me any information.
A few weeks later, my items arrived at my new home the very last possible day in my contract with little forewarning. I was traveling for work at the time and unable to let the movers in myself, but my new building helped and opened the door for them and she said the movers Bekins Van Lines farmed my contract out to were extremely rude and belligerent. My credit card was then charged by that company that I had never before heard about. Many items were damaged and when I filed a claim for one treasured broken keepsake, they sent a letter saying their eight pages of paperwork included a secret clause that stipulated that all damaged items were subject to 60 cents per pound liability for the carrier and since my item weighed ten pounds, I was reimbursed $6 when I had a receipt that it cost $130 to replace. I booked my April moving date in early January with BEKINS. As I had a lot of valuable items, I was given a rough estimate and was aware that might eventually change upon the actual move. All OK. I went ahead with my plans, set up with various charities dates of collection. The Wednesday before the Monday move, Bekins sent out an estimator for a final quote. The man came out, highly complimented my pieces of furniture even asking me where I had purchased them. All was well I thought. ALAS, the very Wednesday afternoon I got a text message from my contact person, informing me the move was off, due to condition issues. I was baffled, called the contact person, true the apartment is full of boxes, which one might expect due to the time frame.
I was recovering from a flood caused by the dishwasher, and had a towel present to cope with the water, this happened shortly before the estimator was due to arrive. He obviously saw my two cats, and assumed even though I had explained the cause of the flood. Anyway he is probably not a cat lover, by the way my cats are very clean. The apartment was in disarray as I previously mentioned would be expected. But in good condition. I had a signed agreement with Bekins, but they were not concerned. Too bad we cancelled the move. When I called to inquire why the refund was so much less they stated that they billed me for insurance even though I didn't request or want insurance through them and the amount that I prepaid didn't include cost for their insurance. Their response was "Well you didn't sign page 2 of the bill of lading stating you didn't want our insurance". It got worse; they then tried to blame it on the driver and subsequently refused to answer calls or emails to tell me where my stuff was or if/when it would be delivered. This was our second move with Bekins. Please note that both moves were full service moves with full insurance. The first move was in 1997 and although it was not without issues it went fairly smoothly. The second move in 2015 turned out to be a disaster. As stated earlier, a full service move. We paid ~$18,000.00 for this move which included all packing as well as full insurance. The movers arrived and it was winter and they were afraid it was going to snow that night. So they unloaded boxes as quickly as possible and dumped wherever. They did not put anything on the carpet nor did they wipe their feet. Filth all over the house. The two big items damaged was a new stainless steel refrigerator that was scratched on the door from a dirty belt on the dolly. They did cover replacing the door skin. They broke the display screen on a $3,000.00 flat screen TV.
They sent out a TV repair person who stated that the display screen was broken beyond repair and there was not a replacement available. The Bekin's claim adjuster ignored the report of their TV repair person and contacted them and changed the diagnosis to an internal malfunction of the pixels. We were then given a choice to accept the damages minus the $3,000.00 TV or go to Arbitration to collect any award. Obviously if they were able to change to diagnosis this would be a fixed Arbitration. Check the customer reviews... We should have instead of relying on a past experience. There are good moving companies available but if you check the customer reviews Bekin's is not one of them. They will manipulate you out of insured items and trash the house.

I had to tell them "So many of you are calling to confirm the date of my move and asking my information, I don't want 6 different trucks showing up at my door!" Confusion from day 1 only continued to get worse, so I and my neighbors packed almost everything ahead of time. The one hour drive to the new location turned into 26 hours, as Bekins movers took the truck with my belongings to their warehouse where they raided, smashed, stole and broke furniture and valuables.
Boxes were crushed, items removed and transferred to other boxes, furniture was dismantled, marred, scratched and chipped. File cabinets were emptied into several different cardboard boxes all mixed up. Tax papers, property sale and purchase papers are still lost. That move was in December 2015. They more than tripled the cost of the move which charges I disputed with Amex to no avail. Fraud, theft, damages, Identity theft, perpetrated on the elderly and they get away with it. We had a corporate move cross country with Bekins. Avoid Bekins if you can. If something goes wrong, as sometimes things do, they do a terrible job of correcting it. For us, when the driver was a day late and Bekins didn't do anything about it and had an array of people who were in theory "helping" fix it but none seem to have any idea what was actually going on or who was doing what I was concerned. But then the driver showed up. Rather than supervise the idiot kids packing the truck he chain-smoked, dumped his butts all over the property and made conversation with me.
Soon he moved to talking to me with an eventual focus on how he hates ** and they shouldn't be let in the country. Why he thought I'd be interested in his opinions I have no idea; I was trying to keep an eye on the guys moving my stuff since clearly he was not. We finally got the truck loaded and he left. I picked up and discarded the cigarette butts, drink containers, and empty cigarette pack they'd tossed on the driveway and lawn so the new owners wouldn't have to. Disgusting.
We didn't hear from the driver (fine with us!) until he got lost during the move. Then he called me repeatedly to get directions, despite my pointing out I didn't know the area at all. Why he didn't get a GPS or call his company I have no idea. Our new road is winding so they wanted to offload remotely and then drive in multiple trips in a smaller truck. Again, my husband and I are not living at the new house, are brand new to the area and don't know it at all. This time the driver called my husband a couple of times to ask where in the area of our new house he could park his truck to offload it and whether various spots were suitable for him to get in and out in his giant truck. As though my husband would have any idea.
The delivery was like the pickup but worse. This time the driver didn't use racial epithets for Latinos. Might sound like an improvement but instead he related to my husband how he thinks "The ** are okay". He went on to talk about how he thinks Donald Trump is great (sure, not appropriate conversation but he's certainly entitled to his opinion. Again, why he felt compelled to share it I have no idea). He went on to talk about how he killed someone breaking into his house when he "snapped their neck". Next he moved back to Mr. Trump and that he agreed to keep all the Muslim immigrants out since you can't trust them.
Of course, my husband is actually a Muslim immigrant so this moved the situation from horribly racist and offensive into frankly scary. It wasn't helped by the other mover who discussed his love for guns and he thinks we should all be carrying them with us. But finally, they left and we hoped we would never have to deal with Bekins again. No such luck. When we finally got everything sorted out it was clear we had extensive damage to our furniture and that many items were just gone, despite being checked off on the list but the scary driver.
This is the worst part. I know mistakes and errors happen even in the best company. That said, I think you can get a real sense of how good a company really is by how they handle it when they know something has gone wrong. This is where Bekins the company completely failed us. I added up my damaged and lost goods and came up with over $10,000. I documented all the values and the damage but Bekins basically said, "too bad." They sent some guy out to "document" the damage and estimate repairs. I do not understand how he thought he could evaluate damage when he never got within ten feet of the pieces of furniture and only looked from one side as our items had damage on multiple sides. Maybe his goal for the repair was to look good enough from more than ten feet away? I have no idea.
The final insult from Bekins came when they offered me less than 25% in compensation and said it was my fault for not stopping the move when things were going badly and not realizing the driver had stolen (oops, I mean misplaced) my items. Sure, he "misplaced" an extension ladder. Right. We'd complained to Bekins about the awful driver early on - it should have been so clear to them that this guy was a mess and either pulled him off or done something to protect us. Instead, when the predictable damage and losses were identified Bekins denied it and said it was our fault. Nice. Because of the lousy service my corporation has dropped them as a preferred moving service. Stay far, far away from Bekins. If there is ANYTHING that goes wrong, they will abandon you and there will be nothing you can do about it.

I moved from Illinois to Arizona with Bekins, paid a lot and even bought extra insurance. The first thing they were supposed to crate was a 6 ft. marble top for a European antique sideboard. It never made the crate, it is in two pieces now. Tried to keep positive the rest of the day. Great, nothing else broke, all my antiques made it on the truck without any breakage??? After that everything went bad. Unpacking in Arizona, things start coming off the truck broken, three dining chairs, backs broken, sideboard doors bad, antique secretary legs and supports tape together and in their moving blankets, (still in the blanket).
Wing back chair leg broken, didn't find that for a few days, they stuck it in the corner of a bedroom and stacked boxes around it and hid the broken leg underneath, and also cracked the glass base of a floor lamp. They can't find an antique ornate mirror with lights and a signed oil painting, just purchased two months before still wrapped in shipped box. They said the other customer after me didn't have it, really, so who does???
It is now August and they only want to fix the marble and three chairs for $2000.00. The marble alone is $1500.00. Customer service, Sharon and Laura, don't expect anything from them. I tried to get a copy of the adjuster's report and Peggy said Bekins won't let her send that report to me. Four months later, still can't use dining room or living room because of the unrepaired items just sitting around waiting. I guess my next step to thru the court system. Over a month to get the claims adjuster out for them to inspect.

I was ready to give Bekins high marks based on the packing, delivery, unpacking. Sadly, due to the claim office, I will NEVER recommend Bekins. They packed the 42", very heavy TV and lied on the papers saying it was PBO (packed by owner). My husband and I could have never lifted that thing and packed it ourselves. They also unpacked and set up but never told me it was shattered. I've been going back and forth with Sharon ** (claims person) who, when she got back to me, was no help at all. Customer service is the worst! I am now waiting for a call from the driver who falsified the records. I would have accepted something like value of TV is less than your deductible, but to LIE to me? I moved from Michigan to Georgia and hired Bekins for my move. The facility in Canton, Michigan was nice clean and seemed suitable for storage. I was told that my household items would be stored in Eastpoint, GA at a sister facility. When I got to the facility, it was NOT like the facility in Canton where I made my agreement for shipping. The facility was very old, very dirty, had no AC where the items were kept. My piano was supposed to be stored in a cool place, but it wasn't and the evidence showed on the instrument. Items were missing from my shipment, 2 bikes, a full tool box, and two boxes. Very precious crystal mementos were broken, looks like they dropped the box and they don't want to reimburse me, saying because I packed them.
It's a shame they were packed and durably wrapped and about 10 of the items were broken. The box was marked fragile, but they had heavy stuff packed on top of fragile boxes! The movers couldn't find all boxes to be checked off so they counted them, but that was not accurate because they kept coming up with a different number and all the boxes were not accounted for. My household items were stored at a scorpion and mice-infested facility and arrived at my home! And the mover packed my pictures and two of them were damaged and he falsified the paperwork and armed they were packed by me. Bekins will not honor my claim...bad customer service because the claims agent has not returned my calls. Save yourself money and hassle by using a more reputable and customer service-friendly company who cares.

I recently moved from Amarillo, Texas to Dallas, Texas. A&W Moving and Storage are the agents for Bekins in Amarillo. My experience was extremely positive. The moving crew was fast, careful with my possessions, and very efficient. They arrived on time for pickup and delivered 2 days later, as agreed, on time. My furniture, glassware, and everything else was unscratched, unbroken and all there. As they had been when they picked everything up, they were fast, careful and efficient. I won't hesitate to use them again.

The perfect move described by the agent, turned into a nightmare. Supposed to be delivered on the 9 or 11 at the latest. It was the 14th when we got our goods. All boxes packed by me [76 YOA] were labelled - number of the box and destination in the house. [I kept a log.] They had to move the goods from a big truck to a smaller truck because they refuse to enter the property. [They must have built our house using only a wheel-barrow.] 50% of the boxes were delivered in the wrong room or building [like big shed]. The furniture was not put back together [bed] - the shelves of the bookcases, they lost the pegs! I packed the set of shelves with the "legs" inside the shelves and roped each set separately...we have the shelves, no legs... Most of the bathrooms boxes went to the big shed and the garage stuff in the closets.
The moving staff in Texas was there 2 hrs prior to the truck and finished in pitch dark [7.30 pm in December] and no street light. Same thing in Georgia where they left at 11.30 pm. We have some pretty expensive antiques... broken [too bad] and they are not paying. Thanks G_D I carried all the waterford and Limoges in the trunk of my car. Hope people read all the comments and pick up other companies. Bad service after you signed the contract. Also we have missing boxes and missing items in some boxes...they must have evaporated! Bekins Movers quoted $1200.00 to move belongings to another house in Arizona, a 60 mile run. I protested the overnight warehouse stay they insisted on, took it anyway. Money, Jewelry, FOOD, valuables were stolen, glassware broken, furniture literally destroyed at their warehouse where they opened the boxes, took items, repacked the boxes. They more than TRIPLED their charges. I paid 3 people to help me pack. I bought boxes, packing supplies which I have receipts for. I found one mover in my kitchen eating my food and had already drank two bottles of Organic Juices and left an empty Fudge Bar box in my freezer. Same guy was in my bathrooms at both houses stuffing his long winter coat with my valuables. (82 degrees outside.)
Bekins movers had me sign a paper showing packing supplies with NO CHARGES ON IT. They said they don't put the charges on. It's done at their office. They put figures in AFTER I SIGNED IT. Squeezed boxes in my garage cabinet I cannot get out were done purposely so by the time I get everything open, they would long be gone with my valuables. One guy quit the next day??? They destroyed my life, throwing manuscripts, taxes, important documents in different unlabeled boxes. Locked drawers were pulled out of my desk and file cabinets. Furniture was taken apart screw by screw. An 81 year old, 17 years widow who cannot pay Bekins thieves for damaging my life.

I only was in Fl for that weekend. My things were moved from my home to a Penske truck, to a warehouse, back to a Bekins truck. Took 6 weeks to get my things up to Michigan.
They lost items, broke items, ruined the top of a desk, left me things that were not mine. When I brought that to their attention the driver said we could split the items between us. They took things apart. I said, "Who is going to put these together at the other end?" Oh the driver will. Got to the other end the very rude driver said, "I'm not putting these back together." Horrible experience. I'm moving things from the storage unit they left them in to a new place. Thought I would call to see if they would redeem themselves, only to find out they will charge me $150/hr to put my things back together. Never again. We decided to use Bekins Van Lines to move our household from Oakland, CA to Raleigh, NC. Before we signed on with them, they were great - a rep came to our house and gave us an estimate on the spot. He checked in frequently before the big day - we thought we were in great hands. On packing day, a crew of three came to pack up our stuff. I didn't supervise too closely because I was watching my four-month-old baby. They ran out of boxes long before we ran out of stuff to pack, but they assured me that the team who was coming the following day to put stuff on the truck would finish packing. Not surprisingly, it was not the trucking crew's job to pack, so I had to run out and buy boxes and bubble wrap and finish packing for four hours while the truck was being loaded. I did try to reach my contact at the local office for help, but he was on vacation, and I got the run around with others who were clueless. I was given $75 for my trouble.
When the time came to unpack everything at the new house, there were a few damaged and broken items from careless packing. Additionally, they managed to lose my 4' fire pit/table. When I filed a claim, they offered 10% of the original cost of the fire pit and a pitiful sum for the other things that were damaged. While I took time to track down receipts/evidence of value for all of the items to send with the claim, the reimbursement total was based on the weight of the goods and not their actual value, so that was another waste of my time. I don't know if they treat all of their customers this way or only those who aren't military or corporate, but it feels a bit like discrimination. My advice is to not use Bekins if you value your possessions or your time.

And refused to acknowledge so, the delivery team pointed out the items. The company attitude was so disconcerting, so darn rude and condescending. I was appalled. Giving 1 star is even painful. Wow, we had such an incredibly bad experience with Bekins! People need to beware. We had an experience with misquoting... showed up without the right boxes to pack TV & mirrors & then of course charged us more for those. Truck they sent wasn't nearly big enough so had to send another the next day which backed up to our settlement on the house, how very inconvenient. Even though it was evident the first minute the truck pulled up that it wasn't going to fit our stuff. And did I mention the customer service woman was severely rude every time we spoke?!
Just like in previous reviewer's case our items were then handled SO poorly. Just about every piece of wood furniture was at minimum scratched, some broken. Boxes were crushed, dishes, glasses broken. To top it all off our stuff was in their storage for 6 weeks and items were STOLEN. Very high value items. All in all though the owner, Craig Schloer, has handled the claim incredibly badly. They said they gave us all this "insurance" and come to find out (after we went through the trouble of filing the claim) the so called insurance doesn't include theft of items while in storage. How convenient. He even wouldn't as a sign of good faith refund any portion of the over $5,000 that we paid him. And never apologized for a thing... go figure. RUN to any other moving & storage vendor.

We recently hired Bekins to move us cross country at a projected rate we considered reasonable. Prior to moving we sold a majority of our furniture and did not have but one single large appliance. There were about 200 boxes we packed. Once the movers arrived we were told we could not have smaller boxes and that all of them had to be packed into large wardrobe boxes. We were charged an additional $35 per box they packed. Originally, the reason for packing into smaller boxes is so I could lift them as I am a senior citizen who has limited ability to lift heavy items. I was not told that everything had to go into wardrobe boxes.
Keep in mind that each box was specifically labeled and sorted according to how they were to be delivered. Once the move was made and delivered to a storage unit, I had no idea where to find our neatly labeled boxes. In addition, the final weight calculated increased our bill by over $3,000. Either the estimator should have had better knowledge or the contracted mover saw a way to make easy money. Although I know the weight was not consistent with what the mover says, I have no way to prove the inaccuracy. I feel we were ripped off by Bekins movers and would never recommend this company to anyone else.

When our household effects were moved from North Scotland by truck, then 8,000 miles by ship to Vancouver then by truck to Point Gray, there was absolutely no damage. When we relocated in New Westminster 3 years ago we called Bekins, a fine old English firm to move us but we were unaware that Bekins is now owned by people from a country where principles are of a very much lower calibre. We have been advised that their workers are engaged on a daily basis from a casual worker's employment agency and are not bonded.
The fact that they, therefore, were not qualified to properly store our effects in their truck giving consideration to the character of each item explains the considerable damage resulting from their simple 12 mile trip from Vancouver to New Westminster. Our sandstone sundial, an item over 4 feet high was split in 2. It has been in my family for over 200 years. It would seem to have been placed vertically in the truck without support instead of being carefully laid on its side. Bekins accepted responsibility and arbitrarily assessed its weight at 80 lbs, offering their ridiculously low rate of compensation based on that figure. We had to have a photograph of the sundial placed on a weighing machine so that its actual weight of 160 pounds clearly showed when Bekins did refund us an amount based on our figure, but it in no way made up for the damage done.
Glassware was shattered, it was not properly wrapped. Expensive teak furniture was scratched and broken. We are still becoming aware of stolen items - these include treasured books, electronic meters, tools, a hat, an electric razor charging base and very sadly my father's birth silver spoon dating from 1870 and my birth silver napkin ring dating from 1927. Many items were unnecessarily wrapped in umpteen sheets of brown paper including a face cloth separately wrapped. We were charged extra for all paper. We are not seeking compensation.
An acquaintance who used Bekins for his move and having many items stolen was told that if he could not provide photographs of them they could do nothing - whoever photographed household items? He stopped legal pressure when the lawyer's bill became more than his losses. We simply wish to advise anyone contemplating a move to be aware of the problems they can expect if they engage Bekins. Additionally, we have learned that Bekins moving charges rate among the highest.

On Friday Oct 25/ 2013 Action Movers dba Bekins moved our household contents 75 miles to Spokane WA. We sold our home and had the opportunity to travel in our RV for up to two years. We made arrangements to have our contents put into a sealed container. We were assured it would be kept until we gave notice. The problem started when they didn't have a container available so they picked up our things in a Bekins truck - assuring us that our contents would only be moved once more and stored in a container. Due to the condition that our things were received on Wed. March 25, 2015 - there is no way they were only moved once and possibly not in a container right away!
When our household contents were delivered to us via a Bekins Truck (NOT a container) there was so much damaged, crushed boxes, broken furniture and so dusty and dirty we were actually in a state of shock!!! One example among many was that our Q Mattress and Box springs that left our home completely encased in newly purchased plastic zip bags. However, when received our things the bags were gone - no covering remained at all. Our couch was the only furniture piece that had any remaining shrink wrap on it - but it was in shreds, the couch was so dirty. I was so distraught I just gave it away along with a club chair and ottoman after I cleaned the up the best I could. We purchased a replacement policy, but only to find out it's not honored? Why? They Bekins say that policy was only good for the move to Spokane, which doesn't make sense - the damage occurred while in their care.
To sum our complaint up Bekins or any of their partner movers are NOT Trustworthy. They mislead us, basically cheated us and will not accept responsibility for their negligence in handling, moving and storing our household contents. Oh yes they also lost two boxes. Now that we are totally unpacked I know what's missing and they refused to look in their warehouse for them.
Their sales rep. said that we could pack our own boxes adding some basic instructions. We purchased several hundred dollars of bubble wrap and "movers" paper-wrap. Most glass items were double if not triple wrapped. No amount of wrapping would be sufficient when the boxes are crushed, most looked as if they were tossed around! When the movers (two young men) were unloading the truck they dropped our oak hutch which broke one of the lower doors in half. One of young men dropped my 1812 vintage sewing machine - fortunately my husband had made a box for it. The metal assembly shifted so that the wheel won't turn.
They offered us $500. for a $5,000 claim. We even have pictures of each box as it was unpacked to prove the damage was due to their negligence along with pictures of some of the same items before they were moved. NO it doesn't mean a thing. We refused the check and sent it back. Have talked with several people with Bekins. They just won't accept any form of responsibility.

The first thing that I noticed when the moving truck arrived was that the items had been taken out of the crates and the truck was not as full as it was for other moves.
We started noticing things missing after we unpacked for the next two weeks and suspected a whole crate had been left behind at the warehouse based on the number of items missing. Many of the missing items like my husband's military coin collection or the gifts he received after his retirement are irreplaceable. We hired Bekins to move our household goods within our state with a delivery date of 4/13/15. The move seemed to go well. We had a number of items that broke or were scratched and a claim was filed for those items and Bekins agreed to pay for that claim. However, the night before the arrival of the goods, I had taken off my wedding ring set and watch and put them in our master bathroom on the counter with the intent of putting them on again in the morning. The morning came and with the arrival of the company I forgot to put them on. Four boxes were delivered to the master bathroom by the two younger movers (I know this because they asked me personally where to put the boxes).
That night, after dinner, I went into the bathroom and found that the ring set was gone and the watch remained. The watch was inexpensive, but my expensive wedding ring set that I have been wearing for 26 years was missing. I looked everywhere and when it was apparent that the set had been taken I called the police and filed a report, called my insurance company and filed a report and called Bekins and told them what happened. I then went through the claim process. It took Bekins three weeks before asking for the police report and upon receiving that report denied my claim on the basis that the Police Officer had found nothing (because the police had done nothing) and that there was no proof.
What is really important in this situation is that one of the young movers had been hired the week before, after walking into the moving company's offices in Seattle. He had just moved from Hawaii where he said he had worked for Mayflower. I know this because I spoke with him. However, the other movers kept teaching him how to move things. He was not dressed professionally and his manner was not like that of the other Bekins movers.
My complaint is in how Bekins handled the loss. Did they investigate on their end? Did they do a background check or get employment verification from a former employer on the new employee before hiring him? From doing many military moves, I know that moving companies hire people off of the street when needed. This pervasive practice of hiring untrained and un-vetted people off of the street to handle personal property needs to stop.
I would advise anyone to ask the moving company about the people who will be handling your possessions. When you receive delivery, ask the company the same questions and upon meeting the people who will unload your goods, interview the crew and if you don't like what you see or hear, stop the move right there and demand a new crew or replacements for those that you don't feel fit. You are paying for your move and if your company or the government is paying, it is your stuff and it would be better to wait a day for delivery than receive broken or damaged items; and worse case, have things stolen.

Bekins is not a reliable moving company. Their employees work jobs back to back and make a lot of mistakes because of fatigue. They ruined our teak dining room buffet when an employee didn't support it properly and just let it fall inside the moving van. The legs were broken, there was a hole in the bottom, shelves were dented and there were other dents and chips. It hit a brand new dresser and damaged that as well. Since we moved, I have never seen my pressure cooker.
The frames on my artwork were damaged when they had their employees just grab a bunch and knock them all together as they brought them in. On top of that, the protective blankets were removed from the furniture before they were put on the dolly and brought in my new house. The job foreman was more concerned about keeping his padding clean than the fact that my furniture might be dinged. A handle was torn off one of the mattresses, the exercise bike had a broken control panel.

I lost all my belongings on November 5, 2014, including household goods, clothing, documents, and personal items. The fire department says the fire was due to mechanical failure and started near a tire and spread into the van. The driver failed to notice the truck was on fire until it was too late to save my belongings. I had purchased insurance through Bekins to protect my cargo. I was told it was full replacement value protection, but have found out it is really to release Bekins from liability. It will not cover my losses. Bekins is bad for business, they cannot be trusted to deliver. My experience tells me if you NEVER want to see your belongings again hire Bekins.

Bekins Moving and Storage moved my family from Sarasota, Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine this summer. (2014) Somewhere between Sarasota and Bar Harbor, $14,000 worth of our belongings went missing. The search for our belongings has been closed and each and every part of our claim denied. We aren't talking about a few boxes here. We are missing large pieces of furniture like my grandfather's desk and chair. Dining room furniture is missing. My children's baby books, family Christmas ornaments, photo albums, yearbooks, book collections, clothing, framed photos, artwork, eight over sized wreaths, all gone! The list is long. Most upsetting are the large canvases of my Mom's original artwork that she has painted over the years for my three children. My mom was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer so the loss of her paintings really stings! If you had artwork delivered to you by mistake signed "Susan **," please, please contact us.
We realized immediately upon delivery that the furniture was missing. We asked the driver if we should call Bekins. The driver recommended writing "Many items missing. Delivery not accepted until we have completely unpacked." The driver said if we both sign the papers with this statement then Bekins would be clear that our belongings had not arrived or had not arrived in good condition. The movers then proceeded to remove all of the boxes we had unpacked. We thought they were be helpful. Now we wonder.
At first Bekins suggested that our boxes got put in someone's long term storage. Then they asked us to supply the numbers written on the missing boxes. This was impossible to provide since the Bekins movers has removed all of our empty boxes. Bekins said because we couldn't provide the numbers that our missing items were "unconfirmed."
Bekins sold us on the quality of their packing services so we only packed a few boxes ourselves - books, stuffed animals and clothing. We had so much damaged and broken by Bekins. Most of our glass frames were broken, figurines from China, chair legs etc. (again, another long list.). Because we had packed a few boxes ourselves, Bekins said we had to PROVE the broken and damaged items were packed by them and not us. Seriously?
They had a "reason" to deny every item on our claim. Damaged carpet from the movers dragging oily-wheeled dollies up the staircase? Can we provide a documented photo of the carpet before the move? King mattress damaged by the movers dragging it up the driveway? Did we take a picture of the mattress beforehand? It goes on and on.
We also had twelve furniture bases (bigger and heavier than regular legs on couches and chairs) delivered that did not belong to us. We had to call Bekins FOUR times before they would arrange to get them.
This has been a heartbreaking and stressful experience. So many family heirlooms with priceless sentimental value are just gone. And then to have Bekins deny our claim with a lot of double speak and tricks has caused us many a sleepless night. By writing this we hope that one family in America can avoid the nightmare experience of dealing with Bekins.

Bekins totally misrepresented the turnaround time for this cross country move. We were told it would be 5 to 7 days. Oddly, on moving day Bekins must have had the driver give me a new contract for me to sign, although the only thing I remember signing was the 7 pages of inventory. I was given copies of the 7 pages yet not the alleged contract. Did I sign the contract that day or was the original paperwork manipulated? Why have the truck driver be responsible for a contract, and lastly why was I not given a copy??
We were driving across the country to arrive ahead of the delivery, when we received a call confirming the delivery window which was 2 to 3 weeks! How did we go from 5 to 7 days to almost 3 weeks?! We were shocked. We called the company and were informed we signed a second contract with this date clearly noted. Our contention is Bekins deliberately misrepresented the delivery time and fraudulently changed the original contract. We would never have knowingly signed a contract which allowed a moving company to have possession of our belongings for three weeks. We would not have traveled across country to sit in a hotel room for two weeks while we wait for this truck!

My wife and I moved from Illinois to Florida. Multiple items were smashed, broken with items arriving in different boxes than we had packed and one box stolen (of course it was my comic book collection). They were two days late to deliver and they will not reimburse us for that. They allowed us $250.00 for loss and damage, just what the deductible was and that's it! The comics were in a box like many things were and they imply that I am lying that I ever had the comics at all! Of course I should have had EVERYTHING documented but in normal life you don't always have documentation for everything you own. When the movers pickup and deliver there really isn't time to check every single thing - it's when you start unpacking you find problems. They know that and got themselves covered in the small print that nobody has the time to read which almost spells out you will get screwed. If you read this and still hire Bekins, you will be very sorry. These people are just professional thieves.

The bad: I was quoted $1,954.45 for the packing portion of the job by a representative of Ridgewood Moving Services (you can ask her name if you care, this is not personal so I will omit it). The final cost ended up being $3,505. I repeat, THREE THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED AND FIVE US DOLLARS. A 79.3% error in the estimate. Even the packers were apologetic and said that this kind of "miss" was ridiculous.
Why the difference in cost? My fault of course. There was one room, size 9x9 which I did not request to be included in the estimate and which I requested to be packed the day of packing (10/6/14). Out of that room, I personally cleared and removed the contents of half the room. The other half was comprised of clothing racks with clothes, which were included in the price of the packing to be done on move date (not on packing date). So we are left with 1/4 of 9x9 room which is what Steve **, General Manager and VP of Operations tells me that accounts for a very large part of the difference between price and estimate. Just to clarify, the contents that were packed were not delicate, hard to pack china, but towels, comforters and bedsheets. Lots of them, but easy to pack.
The ugly: I reported the huge divergence between cost and estimate to the company on 10/7. Mr. ** contacted me that same date and promised to stop by the day of the move (10/8), which he did. He apologized for the mistake but made it clear that it was pretty much my fault for adding a room that was not included originally. I invited him to stop by the house we were moving out from the next day so he could personally see what the size of the room was and that it was physically impossible that its contents represented an 80% increase in cost. He said I should call him to let him know when to meet in the house. I left a message on 10/9 to meet the morning of 10/10, a few hours before our closing. I never heard back from him until I emailed him on 10/12 with pictures of the room in question and the following message:
“I left you a vmail on Thursday to meet on Friday morning it I never heard back from you. I am attaching pictures of the room that was not included in the estimate. The room is approx 9x9, there is air conditioning system in the middle and I personally emptied and threw away half the contents of the room. You can also see that most of the space is shelving and it was mostly beddings that were packed, lots of boxes because bulky but very easy to pack. The rest was the space I cleaned up ad. The clothing which was part of the estimate and packed by your crew on Wednesday, not on Monday. It should be obvious that this room cannot make the 80% difference in estimate vs actual. As I mentioned before 20%, 30% difference between estimate and actual on a job is understandable. But 80% is simply outrageous. I hope you make a good long term business decision and adjust pricing accordingly. Please get back to me ASAP.”
I finally heard back from Mr. ** today, 10/17. He offered to not pay the commission to the person who made that terribly bad estimate of the cost of the move, thus offering to refund me $175. He offered $175 for a $1600 mistake (I was not expecting a $1,600 refund, maybe split the difference between the quote and the horrible estimate sounded fair to me). I understand missing an estimate by 20%. 30%. Maybe 40%? But 80%??? I wonder how many times they estimated 80% too high and then ended up giving the customer money back.
I do not think that Mr. ** profits in any way from the $1,600 mistake. Thus I have to believe that his inability to offer any discount other than $175 has to be part of the company culture, the owners' view of how to run a business or some other force beyond his control. Ultimately, the question remains the same: INCOMPETENTS OR CROOKS? I am still pondering. I hope you don't have to.
PS: If you are interested in seeing the original documentation related to the case I can make it available to you if you leave me contact information.

As a military family, we have moved all over the world. I recently retired and this is the first moving company I have had to get myself ... I only wish I had the foresight to read reviews first, but we were in a hurry. We live in Alaska. I had a one year job in PA. I now have a new job back in Alaska. I paid Bekins in full 8 weeks ago to ship my new Jeep and a small amount of household goods. Due to the 4 hr. time difference, I have had to wake up at 4 am every morning to call them in PA or else they won't answer their phone later on. Every day I call and every day I get the same response... "We are looking for someone to transport your belongings to AK."
It's been 8 weeks now. We have a Bekins here in AK so it's not as if things don't get shipped to and from the lower 48 to AK!! As far as I am concerned, they are holding my money and belongings hostage (or perhaps it could be considered theft by now)! For every week that goes by, I have to pay 300.00 just for car rental alone! We finally checked out of the motel because it was getting too costly. So... we are sleeping on an air mattress in an almost bare apt as we wait for our belongings. This is costing US a fortune. They told us 8 weeks ago that our things were going out that weekend. What is worse is that they don't care! If you don't talk sweet to them, they get mad. They hold all of the power at this point. For if they are mad, I fear they will deliberately cause damage.
We have asked to speak to a boss (someone higher up than the two girls who answer the phone) but he is never in. We suspect, at this point, that they are the boss & don't wish to say so. I don't know what can be done to get my things in the road. Tomorrow I will be speaking to a JAG officer to see if we have any options. But because we are working for a contractor, all JAG can do is give advice. We need HELP!! All I want is my things to be shipped and 8 weeks later they are still 5 thousand miles away. If I could rate them a negative, I would. We paid Bekins to ship our things... We did not pay them to contract it out!

I was driving from Houston to College Station Friday the 26th of September when I was forced onto the shoulder of 290 by a Bekins truck with the license plate number **. As I passed him a few moment later I was given the finger (as witnessed by my 2 children in the car) and then the driver SPIT at my car. Not only was this extremely dangerous driving, it was highly unprofessional of the driver. There was no area code for the phone number on the back of the truck making it difficult to call and report. My daughter looked up the number and no person ever answered. I left my contact information and still have not heard from the company. I reported the incident to the police and was told that an officer was on his way. He turned north on 90 and I continued on my way to College Station. I am very disappointed that a company would allow a driver like this on the road. I am even more disappointed that after an incident like this that the company would not respond to my phone calls. I will never use this company and most certainly will share my concerns publicly. Bekins ought to be ashamed.

We retained Bekins to pack our belongings and move them from Long Island, NY to Florida. They arrived fairly on time and seemed courteous during the process. They packed our belongings, numbered boxes with small stickers, put them in the truck and left. We received our belongings in Florida about 9 days later from a different crew. This was expected since they told us that they needed to transport us from a smaller truck to a larger one for the trip to Florida. We had to pay extra for this. We also paid extra because they "underestimated" the number of boxes they would need for the packing.
When we opened our belongings we were shocked to find that much of our valuable belongings were missing, even though many of these items were next to or in the same drawers as items we actually received. We contacted Bekins and were told that they already knew of one box that we didn't get because another client had contacted them to report that they had an extra box. Why they didn't contact us when they found out over 24 hours earlier about this is a mystery to me. We eventually received this box in extremely damaged and crushed condition (2 weeks later). Meanwhile, there is no response as to where our merchandise is.
Among the missing items are: 16 expensive crystal goblets, expensive fine china, jewelry box with assorted jewelry, wife's passport, remote control for Dyson fan, a laser level, teak wood kitchen utensil holder, assorted serving spoons and fork, expensive water systems for racing bikes, sterling silver cross pencil, expensive (new) hiking boots, several bottles of wine, and the list goes on. All of these items were in different locations in our apartment and most of them were in the same drawers and cabinets that contained items that we actually received. Then we finally get to the part where they damaged our belongings. They crushed two poles lamps, ripped the padding off our total gym and broke the base of our 37 inch Sony flat panel HD TV. You be the judge as to whether you would want to use this company that make minimal attempts at correcting problems they create, but are quick to charge you extra for their services.
DEC. 30, 2014 UPDATE: I already HAVE these worthless forms! They require receipts in order to prove that you stole or damaged my stuff! Who has receipts for the Waterford crystal their mother gave them 5 years ago! Who has receipts for the lamps and tvs and other belongings that were crushed or stolen that YOU packed yet never made it to my home, even though they were RIGHT NEXT to the less expensive items that DID make it? You charged me an additional $400 for insurance telling me that if any loss occurred, I would only need to fill out forms to make a claim. You conveniently neglected to say that I had to produce receipts for the items YOU packed! Another rip off...just like your company.

Contracted with Lake County Movers representative of Bekin Movers. I do want to say that I have no complaints with Lake County Movers directly. My furniture was picked up and loaded as agreed on 6/25/2014. I was told I would have my furniture delivered no later then July 14th so I packed accordingly. I was given to name and phone number of the driver and advised to deal directly with him. My furniture was in storage waiting for a truck that had room. I only had 2100 lbs so it was a small load. Three drivers refused the load. I ended up waiting 5 weeks for delivery. I contacted Bekin and was told to qualify for compensation I had to have 2600 lbs.
I think what bothers me the most is the very poor customer service. I have an IKEA bed. They lost part of the wood frame which make the rest of the bed/headboard with shelves and my matching TV stand useless. I did not take the full replacement insurance (which after reading the other comments I am glad I did not waste my money). They offered me $100.00 which will not cover the cost of having the useless rest of the frame removed. The representative I dealt with did not return phone calls or respond to email. I told her this was not acceptable and received the exact email she originally sent to me as a reply. I would not recommend or ever use Bekin movers again.

I recently moved from CA to Austin with Bekins. When I booked the move, I assumed we would be dealing with Bekins representatives along the way. To our surprise, the door-to-door service was a string of subcontractors: 1) a company packed some of our belongings (we packed majority of our items to ensure we could find them and they arrived in perfect state - nothing that we packed was broken, some of the items "professionally" packed were). 2) Then the driver brought his own people to load our belonging into his truck, and another set of people to unload it at destination.
While the driver and all the people involved in our move were courteous (no complaints there), Bekins did not provide any support other than a couple of phone calls. We only saw a Bekins representative when he came over to our house to give us an estimate. After that, we were dealing with Bekins' subcontractors, and arguing with them about the contractual terms (they initially refused to unpack large items, take packaging materials, etc). Bekins only made sure that we gave our credit card details, collected our money, and then vanished in thin air during the stressful time of moving.
On the loading day, the truck driver did not have the right tools to load up some medical fitness equipment onto the truck. He wanted to disassemble the machine, which I refused as I explained it is medical grade for the management of scoliosis, and the manufacturer delivered to us fully assembled, to ensure it remains calibrated as per the manufacturer's specs. The driver informed us that he could not load the equipment onto the truck, and that Bekins had not informed him of any special equipment being needed to load up this machine. So my husband had to scramble last minute to find a forklift, a truck, and practically load up the machine onto the moving truck himself. And, at destination, we had to find and rent another forklift to unload this equipment.
Another blatant example of Bekins' lack of care: we have 2 very expensive latex foam mattresses, and we had requested mattress bags to protect them during the move and to have them lie flat on the truck. We were assured that it would be done as requested. Moving day comes, and, again, the truck driver had not been informed by Bekins about our requests, and did not have the right packing materials. The mattresses were going to be moved half-way in a box, exposed on top, and squeezed amongst our furniture and boxes. I took pictures and tried e-mailing them to our Bekins point of contact, to no avail. The e-mail bounced back. We had to scramble again to reach the packing company used by Bekins to request the mattress bags, in the midst of the moving stress.
To add insult to injury, when the truck was loaded up, we get an e-mail to confirm that Bekins' original estimate was $4,500 below what we would be charged, as we had exceeded the estimated weight. I can understand a small difference, but not such a large amount. Apparently the estimator "forgot" to add some boxes with books that were in a storage unit in our courtyard. We were asked by the packing company to OK the new price after all our belongings are in the truck. As if we had an option at that point! Very stressful, bad experience with them.

I used Bekins exactly 10 years ago to move from CA to NC. As far as the move went, I really don't have too much to complain about, except some of my dolls were missing. I found that out later as I did not unpack until I moved again 2 months later to a house.
The main thing was the sexual harassment. One of the African American guys working to unload made a comment about my king sized bed having plenty of room to "play on" and a few other remarks. The man in charge of the move in both directions insisted on giving me a kiss before he left. It was a bit uncomfortable. I am sure those same people are not still working for Bekins 10 years later, but who knows?

From the minute I received my appraisal estimate in San Diego with Mark to the movers dropping off my stuff, everything was handled smoothly and professionally. I paid extra to have it picked up a certain day, and my shipment ended up weighing less than the estimate so Bekins called me and lowered by binding estimate price. It only took 13 days to reach FL and the office manager, Honey, in San Diego kept me updated with any questions I had. The movers, which included Kyle, were courteous and respectful. They unloaded all of my belongings without any incidents and it was a welcome relief after the last moving experience I had several years ago. My belongings mostly consisted of boxes which did get dented but I did have a lot of heavy items in them. Several of my glassware pieces were broken, but that responsibility falls on me since I didn't pack them correctly. Overall it was a great experience. I am not sure if it would be different if I had had furniture, but I was satisfied.

Over 1.5 month in new home & STILL no reimbursement or even a response to many emails, calls & claims. Numerous items broken. We have provided details & pictures to back this up. Nothing to date. Not one response to many messages. Our fairly new higher end washing machine was blatantly dropped & is broken beyond belief... dents, busted door, loose metal of some kind inside the machine. Unfortunately we moved to an area that has no laundromats within 30 miles. Several items (such as a dirty space heater, a used birdcage and some dusty old tools) were wrapped up in our own clothing from our closets and tucked into the boxes. These items of clothing were obviously trash with dust & dirt all over them.
Roughly 20% of the boxes were labeled and marked completely wrong. 4 large boxes were marked "kitchen: muffin tins, cook books & plastic bowls". What was inside you ask? Please let me tell you. 2 were strictly clothing. Period. 1 was top to bottom books. That box belonged downstairs but since those idiots packed a LARGE box top to bottom with books... it was unmovable. Really? 70lbs of books in our kitchen? Several medium size boxes downstairs (16x16x16) were packed top to bottom with canned food. That's a couple hundred more pounds that was stewing downstairs and needed to be brought upstairs.
Several pieces of furniture had deep nicks and holes punched in them. EVERY SINGLE piece of damaged furniture was turned to face the walls. This tells me that they were very aware of the damage and tried to get out easy... which they did! The topper though. The big fat cherry a la Bekins, is that they firmly insist that all furniture had to be broken down. Bookcases (understandable), lounge chairs (really), antique desk & furniture (really??? antiques should never be broken down). The list goes on but the knife in the back is that they REFUSED to put anything back together because, QUOTE "umm, we're not supposed to put things back together since we're not the ones that broke them down. We wouldn't wanna do it wrong, right??" Of course not.
Because me & my husband will have these recliners put right back together. They are still not together because we have no hardware that came from them and we don't have the ability to fuse wood and metal back together. Damn us!! Half of the wooden furniture is BROKEN. Not repairable because they were either glued together or carved from a single piece of wood thus they cannot be taken apart. This is the most horrendous experience I have had in my life. I have cried many times at the loss of sentimental items and irreplaceable lost things such as a box of family photos. The worst part is that we have yet to get a single response from these parasites. If anyone would like photographic evidence please let me know.

We needed to move five pieces of heirloom, mahogany, bedroom furniture from Texas to Tennessee. The local mover in Beaumont, Burris, has a longtime, good reputation so we worked through them. Our furniture was stored until the Bekins van came through. According to Burris, the logistical system involves picking up furniture in the reverse order of delivery to minimize movement. In fact, our furniture arrived in an interior compartment of the van. The driver said he placed it there and it did not move until it arrived at our home in Knoxville. Our 75-year-old furniture had minor bruises and scratches already, and the best we could tell, no new ones were added. Our only complaint is not knowing ahead of time when the truck might arrive. We were notified 24 hours ahead and again when the schedule changed, but if Bekins keeps up with its vans from start to finish, they could have easily kept us up-to-date from start to finish. Doing so would benefit customers with busy schedules and Bekins by maximizing the probability that the customer would be on hand for immediate off-loading. Otherwise, we are satisfied and would use Burris/Bekins again.

Paid $250 for a crate to ship 84" Howard Miller grandfather clock, with assurance of their experience; ditto a Mark Levinson #23 amplifier (replacement value $9000). Both items were severely damaged, they put repair parts in my clock, never shipped the pendulum in the crate, used mirror carton and lost it for 6 weeks, found and sent looking like an ACCORDIAN. Refused liability for amplifier after their repair company stated it was improperly packaged. They claimed we didn't have the original carton (20 years old), after I paid them to bubble wrap and crate, noted right on the inventory listing. Cracked an original Alice Barber oil painting canvas, in a crate, but not bubble wrapped, refused responsibility, charged for a 52" crate ($195), for a painting they never took and later sent in a mirror carton.
Then comes the extortion, after packing the truck my husband handed the crew head, Gregory, cash for the tip, he said not enough, now they wanted 20% of the total bill! the move was from NJ to FL. My husband felt threatened and wrote Gregory a check for the same amount as the cash, to wit: double the tip. The claim process was a waste of time, they were given before and after pictures, narratives, they never called backed until they sent "their" adjuster, who knew nothing about clocks or amplifiers, etc, his job was to negate our claim in the face of the facts. They are willing to to pay $550, for which we are charged the $250 deductible, refused the amplifier $2000 to us, and won't acknowledge the other lists, including the extortion. I used them for the FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE, never got it, and going to court would cost us more in legal fees. Moved household contents in August 2013 (pick-up) from 19382 to West Chester, PA 19382 with unloading two days later due to house settlement. Boxes were packed by us, but all other items were to be protected by the movers. The loading crew was headed by one individual, the unloading crew headed by a different person. Loading proceeded until 10:45 PM in the dark.
Upon opening up the van at the new location, the contents were found poorly placed, in most cases unprotected. There was significant damage to contents. Photos were taken at each stage of the process, along with itemization for documentation. Bekins head man acknowledged that there was extremely poor placement (in many areas appeared items just thrown in) in the van and also acknowledged significant damage. A witness was there, a former trucking company owner, who reviewed the moving damages and confirmed with Bekins head. The head man tried calling many times to Bekins for the owner to come and observe the situation - but he never appeared.
Bekins Claim Dept., was notified. A Transit Presentation of Loss (claim) was filed early, with Bekins, with itemization of damage and amount claiming per item. Full sets of photos were also emailed to Bekins. The estimate for repair/replacement provided for 26 items was over $15,000. Only 2 small items were damaged that were boxed, all significant damage occurred by Bekins lack of protection and placement. Bekins sent a representative two weeks later who took photos of damaged items. I received an email from Bekins Claim Dept offering settlement of $1449, which I stated was unacceptable.
The Representative emailed again, and stated the manager of the Claims Department said that offer was firm. We requested a list of the repair/replacement costs for what they offered for settlement, but never received. We did file a complaint with the PA Public Utility Commission and also the Better Business Bureau. PUC has an ongoing investigation of potential violations, including overcharging based on estimate. BBB has not been successful in the dispute. It was advised that next step is to bring the case to a judge. My message to anyone trying to use this company (Bekins of Pottstown, PA) is to stay clear of them!

I would like to make a positive comment about my earlier complaint. After a second review by Bekins’ Customer Service my claim was honored, less the $250.00 deductible. Thank you Bekins.

After spending $700.00 for insurance, I submitted a claim for a little over $500 and received a letter from Bekins absolving themselves from any culpability for the damage. In essence, they were careless with my goods because they knew nothing would come from any claim of damage. It is amazing how this company can even stay in business and I now see why it has a 91% disapproval rate (a fact that I was not aware of when I signed the contract).
Hi Chris, I am very sorry to hear about your experience with our claims department. I understand that the manager of claims has been in contact with you and is re-evaluating your claim settlement. She will be in contact with you privately regarding a revised claim settlement. Thank you for making us aware of this issue. Wow!!! There is a thin line between professionalism and sexual harassment. I had to move some items from California to Texas. I was told that if I changed the day or time I would be charged an extra $300.00. I made sure that the date and time was not changed. I had the items delivered to my home by two African American men who were very flirtatious. I am a single woman who lives alone so I was a little surprised that they would cross the line. The driver was about my age and went by the name of "Doug." His phone number is **. He asked if I would rent him a room in my home and even said that he would move in that same night that they delivered my items. He stated that he lives in Virginia, has worked for the company for 30+ years and is getting tired of driving. The other man flirted with me as well. As they talked, I wondered if they had not crossed the line from professionalism to sexual harassment. One man has even sent an obscene photo to my cell phone which was totally unexpected and now I am not sure if I should call the company to file a formal complaint or is this enough. It just isn't cool fool. To the single ladies out there that hire Bekins to move items for them, please BEWARE. THERE IS AN UNCOOL FOOL working for Bekins. Where is the professionalism and respect for women?

Moved from Maryland in July. The ONLY things that were broken were EVERYTHING BEKINS WAS SUPPOSED TO BOX. Lighting fixtures "boxed" in blankets and kicked around the warehouse doesn't work for me. Customer disservice (Tabitha) doesn't return calls and acts nonchalant when I do manage to track her down and call her on it. She must be a niece or side dish to a manager. So now, in order to file a claim, I email a request daily to the black hole in cyberspace. So far, just the echoes of crickets. I should have known this nightmare was going to occur when, on moving day, one of their non-employee beasts of burden shouted at me to "get off the damn phone and help us push this thing". Trying to load a motorcycle up the wrong ramp.

This is my 4th move. Compared to the others, Bekins is the WORST. Broke shipment up onto 3 different trucks. One arrived in 6 days, the next 20 days later and the final truck, 33 days after leaving my home. No one told me about the multiple shipments. I had to use the inventory control sheets to identify missing items. 77 items were never delivered. Inventory control sheets were a nightmare. Each time I called to find out a delivery date, I was told the items were still in the warehouse and no driver had been scheduled. This went on for a Month. There was more than a normal amount of damage done to items and my new home during delivery. Every item on the 3rd truck was rusted, broken or chewed on by rodents. I have no idea where they stored the stuff for 30 days, but the items I had were ruined. No one at Bekins will answer their phone. After many voice mails, you will get an email with very little information and no chance to talk to a person.

Packers, Drivers and so-called customer service. I have moved all over the country from one state to another (Military moves) and have never had the moving company like BEKINS treat a paying customer as we have been treated. Packers used too much packing paper on unbreakable items, less on the breakables. One item was my wife's hutch that her grandfather built and was told to treat it as if it was glass (damage to fix $400). Refused to pay and full size mirror broken. Items such as collectibles broken. I could go on. Customer service refused to return my calls (she is on another line or goes to voice mail).

My complete shipment was destroyed! We are a military family and PCS'd from Bragg to Polk. Bekins packed out our house late and picked up later. We took delivery four weeks later (just time to get housing) and when our shipment was delivered we have been in the midst of a nightmare since. All of our furniture, clothing, appliances were wet and had mold growing on them. Our washer and dryer were busted, the few pieces of furniture that did not suffer from mold had severe damage. Our mattresses were not packed and were nasty and wet also. They have "misplaced" aka stolen two dining room tables, a patio table, lawn mower, end table, bikes, Wii, surround sound system, 60" LED television, table saw, wall hangings, and about 15 other boxes. I literally do not have one room (down the bathrooms) in my house that is not missing something or severely damaged. We have called countless times and cannot get a call back. I would strongly suggest anyone who is moving to avoid Bekins like the plague they are. Moving is hard enough on a soldier and their family, this should not be a part of it.

They would not listen to our requests. They promised dates to move and then changed them. They gave us quotes that were unrealistic. I have lived all across the country and have used several moving companies of which this is the first time I have had a negative review on a company. The lady with Boerman bragged so much about her experience "since 1998" that she would not listen to common sense or reasoning. Since she jumped our quote from $12K to $17K, we had a lot of questions which apparently challenged her level of expertise of 15 years. I know her level of expertise because she would not stop about it.
When every question we felt was answered, we decided to go with the $12K quote which would eliminate a lot of things. She agreed and then called back to tell me that she was not going to move us because she didn't feel like we were happy. She said and I quote, "I am not going to bow down to you and your requests." Are you kidding me? I told her that if she really wanted us to be happy, then move us for the $12K quote.
Apparently, I offended her level of expertise. Thanks, Bekin and Boerman. That's exactly what I want; promises that are broken once again. I mean if I didn't get rejected several times by you, I would have never learned how to pack myself. I really didn't want to take my planned vacation. Instead, I wanted to pack everything I have and move it myself. You really helped me see the light that I would be saving a whole lot more than money. I would be teaching my kids patience first-hand. Thanks for the change of heart. I've had the experience of a lifetime I've always wanted with a moving company.

If hell were renamed Bekins moving out of Seattle, I would say "Yep, I knew that." Bekins from Portland, Oregon and Seattle, WA should rot in hell for what they did to us. I pray that the tall 6'3 man working at Portland Bekins finds out what it is like to be a victim of foul play. He came over, stole my invoice and when the truck got to Washington, charged us $10,000 additional on top of the original $10,000. That is $20,000 to move one state. We did move a lot of things, however, we had a quote. Just disappeared one day though after big, tall and stupid, lawless ** visited my home. May this company and all their owners rot in hell forever and ever.
If anyone ever files a lawsuit, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to join in on the burning of this hell owned company... Oh and they hire crooks right out of jail and pay them under the table too. I hear they may be out of business. We now use ABF, which is a well oiled machine. They drop a 28 foot truck at your home, you fill the truck (or hire kids to do it) and when you call ABF, they will come pick it up. So far I have sent 3 trucks down the road AND knocking on wood, nothing ever broke. Items have arrived in perfect condition... They are such an amazing company. So far anyway. Truck #4 should be reaching Arkansas on Wednesday. We will see if ABF can keep a perfect track record.

I used Bekins about 10 years ago, and it was such a good experience. Not one item got damaged or lost. I was so impressed I recommended them over and over again to my friends. Now, 10 years later, I used them and the service was terrible, nothing like before. The employees that handled the estimate and scheduling seemed professional. However, there was little to nothing professional about the actual move, or movers. I would expect this type of service if I had hired workers off a street corner, but I paid approximately $1500 to move less than a quarter mile. Even though my claim is settled, I will never use or recommend Bekins services to anyone again.
Here are some of the high level problems I encountered: 7 pieces of furniture were damaged. They brought no protective plastic wrap. They didn't bring enough blankets for all my furniture. They brought no lifting straps and I live in a 3-story house. They tacked heavy boxes of books on top of boxes full of fragile glass items that were clearly marked fragile on every side. Many pieces of furniture were placed on their sides on abrasive concrete resulting in deep scratches. Walls and door frames were damaged by clumsy moving. They did not reassemble the furniture that they took apart. They complained to me about owning a 3-story house. They complained about heavy furniture. They left before completing the work
You probably don't need to read further, but if you are interested in details please continue. I'm convinced that if they had the proper tools and equipment much of this would not have happened. Plastic wrap and blankets provide excellent protection. Lifting straps can make moving large heavy items so much easier. They had no straps or plastic wrap.
I have a 3-story house. The movers were getting visibly tired and making mistakes. I felt bad for them making so many trips up the stairs, so I told them they could unload everything from the truck onto the first floor. Then they could move it up to the 2nd and 3rd floors after the truck was unloaded. Instead of completing the job, they simply left after the truck was unloaded. My wife and mother-in-law even questioned them as to why they were leaving with so many boxes that were clearly marked for the 2nd and 3rd floor still left on the ground floor. They lied to my wife and mother-in-law, and said that I told them they could leave.
It is worth mentioning that they offered to have another team to come out and move the remainder of the items, but I gave up after 3 schedule conflicts. Basically, I was not willing to take off work so they could complete the job and they were always booked on the weekend. I filed a damage claim on 12/18/2012, and was not contacted even though the mover has only 30 days to inspect damaged items after a claim is made. I contacted them approximately 6 weeks later to get an update. They had yet to even review the claim. I finally heard back from them on 2/8/2013 at which point my claim was denied. It wasn't until after I threatened to contact the Texas DMV, Better Business Bureau, Bekins corporate claims director, and a lawyer that they agreed to settle my claim.
To reiterate, I will never use or recommend Bekins services to anyone again. I would advise you to avoid them completely.

I had made a call late morning to confirm that we were all set. Bekins told me they will be there within the hour. Wow, did I think! Earlier than expected. Hours went by and no one showed up. At 2:30pm I made another call. I was told they were trying to locate the driver. No callback. So I did call again. I was told the driver did not show up for work today at his first place of pick up.
Now, anyone would assume Bekins would have notified me of the problem. Absolutely not! Not only did they lie about the fact someone would be there within an hour, but they simply said they wouldn't be able to move me today. This had been scheduled for weeks. I received no phone calls, no updates from their part. If I had not called, I would still be waiting for them to arrive. They were dressed in dirty clothes that looked they had slept in. They were supposed to shrink wrap all upholstered furniture. First thing, I had to stop them as they started loading my chairs with no protection. They finally ran out of shrink wrap because they were using it on appliances instead of upholstered items. They ruined a $2,000 area rug as it was all rippled when unloaded. After filing a claim, it took 3 months to get a response and then refused to take responsibility even though we had purchased additional insurance. My husband chose Bekins because they supposedly give a discount to ministers. Ha! This was by far the worst experience we have ever had with moving! Our driver "was scheduled to be somewhere else" and would arrive at the moving site a full week before the contracted date of arrival. So Bekins proposed to drop all of our worldly belongings in the garage of our new apartment building without our presence. We adamantly refused, of course, for many reasons but mostly due to the threat of flooding - we expected 6 inches of rain that week. When we refused, a male Bekins employee proceeded to scream at us, call us names, and hang up on us. Bekins then decided, against our expressed wishes, to transfer our belongings to another moving company with over $500 in damages and no less than 3 entirely lost boxes (see pictures below). My husband was forced to threaten legal action in order to get reparations even with these images, and we never received an apology for how the Bekins employee berated us. What a nightmare. Please, avoid Bekins at all costs. They are abusive in every way.

Bekins moved us last summer from Texas to California. It looked like a good deal, especially with the 'all it's worth' insurance. Theoretically, nothing could go wrong. Well, so much for theory. Packing was done by 2 young girls going methodically through our house. We didn't look over their shoulders, but when unpacking in California, I feel we should have. The most blatant example of total incompetence (or ignorance) was the fact that my radio-controlled helicopter was stacked vertically in a box together with a shovel and some other gardening tools. So yes, we did suffer damage to our goods, mostly ugly damages to our furniture, for which Bekins offered us a totally inadequate compensation. So much for the "What it's Worth" insurance. Our protest letter was never answered, and upon several calls to the Claims Department, the standard answer is "Your claim is with accounting, awaiting processing." We're still waiting, 7 months later.

What a nightmare! My family moved from Iowa to California. When we arrived in California to our new home in the Sierra Mont Foothills, it had been raining hard for a few days and raining really hard on the day Bekins was to unload our stuff. They were unable to get to our home due to the road leading to the house wasn't paved. They threatened to keep our stuff and charge us another $1,000.00 to hold it.
We were able to locate a storage unit for them to unload on. It was pouring down raining and 40 degrees. We were told that there would be two men provided by Benkins to off load our things. Only one showed up. My husband who just had knee replacement surgery and his brother were forced to help unload our things. I wasn't on site. We had several large antique pieces of furniture that were severely scratched and the veneer was tore off that my husband didn't notice when he signed the offloading 'OK' form with Bekins because of the circumstances with offloading. Cold, pouring rain and causing him severe pain to lift heavy objects.
I am sick over it all. Plus, the truck driver hit a nearby building and tore the expensive black, ornate gutters from the top of the building and didn't contact the owner of the building. We do have that on video tape thanks to my brother-in-law. He never contacted the owner of the building but I plan on doing so tomorrow and showing them the video tape.
The driver was rude to us from the time he arrived to pick our things up to when we had to help him offload. We had informed the driver on the drive out to California that my husband’s mother was dying and so we were stressed over that and he showed no compassion at all when we were trying to hustle to find a storage unit so they wouldn't hijack out belongings. Don't ever use Bekins!

At 60 days I was told they would request an expedited payment and that would be an additional 2 weeks. I followed up again with both the Bekins claims supervisor and the government QA office. Bekins told the QA office that they would send it out by the end of the week and Bekins would notify me.
One week later, still no check. I was told by the claims office that it was still in the accounts payable office. They are only allotted so much each week to pay out and she did not know when the claim would be paid. I guess as far as they (Bekins) are concerned, since the claim appears settled in the government DPS system, they do not care as their performance looks good. I contracted with them because of their name and reputation. What a mistake. It started when they arrived and started inventorying and packing. They were going so fast I could not keep up to make sure things were getting documented properly. I also commented that I could not read their writing on the paperwork and was told it was just for documentation purposes and I didn't need to worry about it.
The next day they arrived with a temporary truck claiming the moving truck broke down. So they had to load my stuff, then un-load and re-load again onto a different truck. When my stuff was loaded they wanted me to sign all the paperwork that I couldn't read, I told them I couldn't read it and again they said it's not that important and to just sign it, they had to get going. So I was pressured and just signed it. The delivery was 6 days late beyond the scheduled delivery date. The driver claims his truck kept breaking down. This caused a major inconvenience not having my belongings as promised. Then as they are unloading, I told them to slow down so I could check off the numbers on the paperwork. Well, some stuff didn't make the trip and some stuff was broken. Oh but all your stuff should be here, please sign the paperwork that you can't read, we have to get going.
Now comes the filling out the claim forms. Oh, wait a minute you can't read the paperwork to figure out what is missing. Oh, and you need receipts for the 10 year old antique table that’s missing. Oh, now that's going to be a problem. I could keep writing, but this move has been such a disaster that I just hope people will read these complaints and be very careful using Bekins for their move. I was extremely unhappy with our experience moving from Chicago to Colorado with Bekins. We picked them because of their reputation. But then, we had numerous items lost and damaged in the move (they also packed for us). Numerous items, almost all belonging to our young children, were packed "loose" at the insistence of the packers and then simply disappeared during the move - bikes, skateboards, hobby horses, children's guitars, etc. It seemed clear that some mover had simply decided to take the items for his own kids or those of friends of his. Several other items were damaged due to incompetence with packing. Needless to say, our kids, already dealing with moving, were pretty unhappy to have a lot of their favorite things missing.
The worst part, though, was that Bekins refused to acknowledge or compensate us for any of the items, despite our claims, and despite our purchasing insurance. They claimed that the "value was unsupported" and that all the disappeared loose-pack items were not documented at delivery. The move was poorly done at every aspect, from the packers who ran out of stickers and insisted it wasn't an issue (and that many of these items needed to be "loose-pack" which they claimed was standard practice) to the incredibly slow movers. Not having any acknowledgment or apology or compensation from Bekins for the losses was the worst. I will consequently try to warn others about using this company in any forum I can find.

Finally, she sent an estimator who just took a picture and jotted down the serial number. He did no inspection whatsoever. He then turned around and reported that this is a warranty issue and not insurance. Bekins damaged it. Therefore, the insurance should pay. Period. The claim was denied so we're in the process of appealing. Whatever you do, do not hire Bekins.

I hired A & W Transfer & Storage--the Amarillo, Texas affiliate of Bekins Van Lines--to move my one-bedroom apartment from Amarillo to Austin, Texas. Upon delivery in Austin, two items were missing: a "small box" that contained my Xbox 360, and my desk chair. I contacted the company, which said that my chair was still in its warehouse. The Xbox was missing, and I presume it was stolen. I got a police report on the Xbox. I filled out a claim form, but the company was indifferent about sending my chair to me.
I didn't get a positive response about my chair until after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. A few days after contacting the BBB, I contacted the company again and was told that my chair was being shipped via UPS and I'd get a check for the missing Xbox. It had now been more than 30 days since the chair was reported missing and about 25 days since I filed a claim on the chair and Xbox.
A & W Transfer & Storage sent a check to me a few days later. It was for only $30, but to its credit. I did not pay for the full insurance coverage, but only because I trusted the company to hold up its end of the contract. The chair arrived the same day as the check, but the chair was broken. In fairness, I cannot fault the company because it could have been damaged by UPS.
But A & W Transfer & Storage was not helpful in getting my items back to me. One was lost, presumably stolen, and the other was simply held in the company's warehouse for more than 30 days. The claim also was held for about 25 days. No action was taken by the company until after I filed a complaint with the BBB.

We booked a cross country move with Bekins Van Lines through Action(Denny **) moving company out of Spokane, WA. We did hire the movers to pack for us. We initially were told it would take 3 days to pack and load our things. The lead mover, Richard **, told us they could finish packing and load us on the second day and that that would be more convenient for them and we agreed.Upon loading that day, an entire shelving unit was mishandled and crushed in our driveway. We had them move our items directly into a private storage unit in Elmhurst, IL and my husband and I inspected everything as it came off the truck.
Multiple items and boxes were not inventoried, badly packed(mattress not boxed or wrapped with stain from a leaking kitchen box, glass with no paper, etc) and/or broken. I filed my insurance claim(for over $6000) and became very frustrated when I couldn't get a hold of anyone and never got an apology about what a horrible job they had done and still have not heard what the settlement is. On top of the damaged items we are missing a Canon SLR camera(with kids pictures on it ) with accessories, laptop computer and Oakley sunglasses. We picked Bekins because of their great reputation and are frustrated and saddened over our losses and a bit angry over the lack of customer service. I am still waiting to hear back from Vera **, our claims adjuster who never answers the phone or answered an email sent on Monday. If moving across the country with two young kids, dog and cat wasn't stressful enough this definitely helped out.
We would like to be properly compensated for our damaged and lost goods. What is most upsetting is losing photos of my children that were on our camera. Sure, some of our (expensive) furniture still functions but it is now chipped, stained, dented or scratched. Above all, how about some customer service or an apology? Not only were we inconvenienced with our damages and losses, I've had to waste so much time on submitting claims and following up with a phone number that puts you straight on hold. Now, they are threatening to deny my missing items claim because I didn't submit documentation from the time of delivery. I feel robbed and fooled!

Bekins was definitely the worst moving experience of my life. I provided them an almost exact weight of my items and they quoted based on a computer generated weight which I stated several times that it was not the actual weight and was 300 lbs less. I decided to go ahead with them as they had been in the business for "120+" years. They came to pick up my stuff and stated it was 1000 lbs more. Then when they weighed the items, they stated it was 600+ lbs more. The price I was quoted was so much lower than what I had to pay.
The drivers asked for a tip upon pickup! There was NO customer service, no class, inaccurate quoting of price. The worst experience I have EVER had with movers. Please do not go with Bekins!

I had the worst experience with Bekins. Everything started on May 16 2011 when we decided to hire them to move our stuff from Delaware to Texas. While they were packing, I noticed that they were doing a really nasty job and were very unprofessional. I had a 2-room apartment, and not too much stuff; and it took them 8 hours to do their work. They demanded for tips and for us to get them water and a break. When they were supposed to deliver my belongings, I noticed that they had someone else's things in the same truck; and they were mixing my things with other people's.
I started opening every box and noticed that some of my stuff where missing; it was strange that it was a new coach purse worth $500, a pair of Paris Hilton shoes worth $170, a Tommy Hilfiger baby cap worth $ 50 -- probably more. I called to let them know my things were missing. Joe was so rude and mean to me and said that it makes no sense that only these things were missing; and that I needed to write a letter stating everything that was missing. We also had damages in our furniture, dining table, Christmas tree, and so many other things. They haven't answered my letters or calls. It's been almost 2 months. Please, I need advice on what to do. I would like to sue, but I don't know if it's a good idea or not, since they are protected by law. I need some advice please.

Warning to anyone remotely considering using Beckens Moving or Experienced Van Lines in New York!
I made the move from NY to VA in November. Modest move of a one-bedroom apartment. All of my belongings to be loaded and moved were in a relatively small 10x10 storage unit in Long Island. I had no idea who to hire, so I did a search online and filled out online forms to figure out my estimate. Suddenly I had over a dozen moving companies calling me wanting my business. You will surely experience this as well. The fastest to the phone was Joe at Beckens Moving. These guys are quick to spring into action and promise you the sun and the moon for a cheap cost.
What went wrong and why you should go elsewhere: I was assured of guaranteed delivery (which I paid an additional $450 for) by a certain time. They were late and did not fulfill this. Upon inquiring about getting a refund for this wasted money, I have yet to hear back from them after repeated calls and emails. By the way, they were also late in picking up as well. Rip-off! Irreparable damage was done to my dining room set, wooden bookshelves, couch and other items. You have to go out of your way and go through a whole ** of a lot to submit a claim--not even sure if I am receiving any refund as the entire process is painfully slow.
Beckens sends you elsewhere for this anyway and passes the buck to others. I was given an estimate of about $1500. Now I did have some more boxes than I had initially estimated, but the whole move cost me over $3200! For a one-bedroom apartment! I know full homes that were moved for less than this! You get three Russian guys who speak broken English that come to the site and rip you off, trying to explain to you why the price was escalating. And they are already there...you have your plans set at this point...you are screwed and at their mercy at this point.
Let me repeat, $3200 to move a 10x10 unit of space when I was quoted $1500. Listen, I was suckered as I am sure others have been here. The BBB rates them a C- and they will dismiss this entirely and try to explain to you why this is absurd and that they guarantee and stand by their work and costs. Nonsense. I lost my money already. I requested that they look over the prices and be given a refund of some kind. They were not having any of this. They got what they wanted. So fine. I lost big time. But if I can get just one person (at the least) to read this and not hire Beckens Moving Company (NY) or Experienced Van Lines (as they are the same company), then I win and can sleep better at night knowing they suckered one less consumer.
Beckens Moving & Experienced Van Lines (the whole partnership is sketchy) will be poor communicators after they get your money. Do not hire them! You can even call or email me and I'd be more than happy to explain in more detail for you. Anything I need to do to keep them from ripping off someone else. They talk a good game to get the job and sound cordial and honest and professional. Don't be suckered. Email or call me. Look elsewhere for a BB company rated much higher. Thank you--and happy moving!

The government hired Bekins to supply my wife and myself with "quality moving service", and we are extremely disappointed in the service that we have received this far! The original delivery date was 12/06/10. Today's date is the 12/14/10 and we still don't have any of our household goods. Now Bekins representatives has contacted my wife or myself about what the delay was that prevented us from receiving our household goods on time. We contacted Bekins at 11:40 am on 12/06/10, at that time we were informed that there would be a delay, but we would receive our shipment no later then 12/14/10. I requested the driver's telephone number and he informed us that he would be here in Chicago on 12/16/10, this matter is completely unacceptable, especially during the holiday.
We've spend over $10,000 to move to Chicago. To arrive and be forced to spend even more due to unexpected delays, this is unsatisfactory. I spoke with customer service earlier in the week and I was informed that Bekins would only cover $125.00 per day. We had no choice but to stay in our new home without furniture, cold weather cloths nor cooking supplies because the average hotel plus food would've ran us over $125.00 a day.
As of today, December 15, 2010, Bekins Van broke down for the 2nd time and we're unable to receive our delivery for tomorrow Thursday, Dec. 16 as promised. People read this. Trust me. I'm angry! Do not use Bekins! It's the worst moving company I've ever experienced. I'm praying that those ** did not steal any of our belongings!

I was given a quote for the commute of my belongings from a storage in California to my new home in Texas. For two bedrooms worth of stuff, the quote I was given was $1600 max, $1300 minimum. I was okay with that. When Bekins picked up my things, they claimed the new quote changed to $2400. That was not what my contract was for nor was that amount in my budget. So, I called them and told them to hold my things there at their location in Buena Park, CA. I will be out there for the holidays in a couple of weeks and I will pick them up and take them to Texas by U-Haul myself.
They then told me the charge to get my belongings from them would be $813. Basically, they picked up two bedrooms worth of belongings and took them 30 minutes away to their location. I understand the estimated $100 charge for packing and handling. I asked several supervisors by phone, why such an excessive charge. No one could give me a reasonable answer. Apparently there are several charges that would make a 30 minute trip cost $800. I was certain Bekins was a reliable company. I was wrong.

We contracted for a national move to Florida from San Diego, CA with Bekins. They gave us a binding quote. We paid the admin fee to Bekins and signed the contract. They subcontracted work to Serenity who came to our house. Serenity picked up work in a rental truck and proceeded to tell us the work was much larger and would cost more. They did not honor the Bekins deal. Then they stated they needed to come back and pick up the rest of the stuff, did a week later. The original contract was for $2,500 and the job to not cost over $10,000. We paid half upfront. They did not communicate the move to FL and since they subcontract and want full trucks, the first shipment showed up and was half of our stuff. The missing boxes were 9 and we were told it would be sent on the next shipment.
Over two months later and several calls, our stuff showed up in Florida. We were told the driver got arrested in route (not told why) and we were told Serenity went out of business (and restart under new name?). When the goods arrived by some shady driver and his help, he got at home depot that day. It was clear not all our stuff was there. I have pictures I took from inside the truck before it was unloaded. Boxes all smashed and opened, goods all opened and over 30 boxes missing. China, silver, crystal, shoes, purses, etc. all gone. Over $20,000. We refused to sing the bill of lading and after a long and aggressive yelling match, the driver went off with half the money requested. We are now looking at pursuing criminal and civil charges. This company is ran by thieves and gypsies, and needs to be shut down now. My wife is so upset. All her family heirlooms, shoes are gone. They can not be replaced.

I hired Bekins for my interstate move on the basis of their reputation and their in-person visit by their salesman. To get my business, they agreed to my critical move-out and delivery dates, but their promises were false. Bekins picked up my furniture on June 22, and I had been promised a strict delivery window at the destination between June 27 and July 5. I had even offered to move up the pick-up date if needed to make certain the delivery date could be met, but was told it was unnecessary. After pick-up, however, the local office became unreachable until 3 days later, when I was informed that scheduling was "uncertain".
During the next few days, the phone either went to unanswered voicemail or was answered by someone in the loading dock who had no idea how to answer my call. On June 30, I was then called by customer service at Bekins Corporate to learn that my delivery was "delayed" due to "business demand". In other words, my shipment had become less important than other business they had accepted. No delivery date commitment was given, other than that it would be delayed by 1-2 weeks. At this time, Bekins Corporate attempted to placate me by stating that I was eligible for a delay "penalty" of $125 per day, plus living and meal expenses during the delay.
This also turned out to be false. It turns out that Bekins will only compensate up to $125 per day of actual living expenses, and nothing else beyond that due to their own incompetence or delay. In the end, Bekins delivered my furniture 11 days late, and their "late penalty" of $125 per day did not even come close to making up the actual costs due to their delay. I recommend that anyone considering a move avoid Bekins at all costs.

When it was delivered, there was a great deal of damage to my furniture & personal belongings that they packed, and charged me for packing. I sent them pictures, and submitted a claim.
They offered me a settlement of $171, including a damaged window, which they broke in my house that cost me $117 to replace. These people are rip off artists, and need to be held accountable. She went $6900 but said there was no way it would be that high because our things were in a storage unit and we couldn't have that much weight in there. Well, it came out at $8400 after they did the weight. They didn't get back to us right away and it was Labor day weekend, so we had to rush to get our check or they were not going to give us our things.

I am writing this complaint as a result of the poor and unprofessional service that I have received with this company. When I initially booked with them, I made them aware that I had a budget of $1500.00 and that State of NJ was paying for my move due to domestic violence. I explained this information to Esther and gave her my item listing and the original quote on K278774 was for $1174.00 and after it was said and done the price went up to $2520.00 because I had to re pack stuff b/c of either how the picked up the containers and cracked them or b/c some the items packaging was unacceptable, so the item count went up and I had to leave stuff that was in my original estimate. Not to mention that the truck they used was a 24ft budget rental truck, the movers came before calling, their shirts had Experienced Van lines and they started before I got there.
I began emailing and calling Esther at Beckens to get this issue resolved on August 16,2010. And she stated that she would get back to me with a resolution and if one couldn't be made that I would need to change my delivery date.
According to the movers on the date of the move and after speaking with Doreen at Experienced Van lines, I was told my items could not be delivered without an address and that this information needed to be provided before the delivery could be made. On Wednesday, August 17, 2010, Doreen called stating that a delivery address was needed and I told her that I would call her back on the 18th with an address but I needed the delivery date changed and she said ok.
I called on the 18th and provided the information and requested a change in delivery date for Sept 11, 2010. I thought this was done after I made my request. On Saturday, Aug 21, 2010, Josef from Experienced Van lines calls at 8:34 PM to tell me that he was in Georgia and would deliver my items on Aug 22, 2010 after 9 am. I explained to him that I spoke with Doreen and gave her my address and changed the delivery date and he said that his paperwork reflected no change and that he told them not to load it because it had no delivery address.
John called me on Sunday morning the 22nd, stating that we had an issue and I told him yes because I had requested the change of delivery date and he said that Doreen has nothing to do with dispatch and that my items were already sent which I believe to be a lie due to my conversation with the driver. Anyway he proceeded to tell me that my items would be placed in storage near Columbus, Ga and I would be responsible for picking up my items by renting a truck myself. This is unacceptable! I called Doreen to clarify our conversation and she said I was correct that the date was changed and the address was entered.
As she was placing me on hold I over heard her and someone discussing my items being sent without having a delivery address and then I was transferred to John again and he then said, the items would be placed in a storage unit in Columbus for 20 days and that they would not re deliver and when I asked how am I suppose to pay your company he said by putting money in our Bank of America account. I then asked where am I suppose to get this information and would it be emailed to me and he said it will be sent.
Now my questions to you are: Is this how business is conducted with your company? I checked the quote and I am allowed 30 days free storage with re-delivery upon request am I not? Is it policy to put monies for balances in a Bank of America account? Who is in charge of follow up on long distance moves? There was definitely a break down in communication somewhere and not on my part. I need for my items to be re delivered on the date requested at no cost to me and if that cannot be done and I have to arrange this myself and financial adjustment will need to be made as soon as possible! This move is becoming more of a horror show by the day and I will be filing a Better Business Bureau Complaint and with any other agency that facilitate my complaints.
I then had to call Esther on August 23,2010 in regards to my email and she stated that she had forwarded my issues to the general manager and to Jon. I received a call from a some lady that was trying to make me pay for re-delivery and trying to offer me some type of discount I refused and told her that I would be still filing complaints against that company for fraudulent and deceptive practices and for them bullying and threatening people with the loss of their belongings.

I am writing in hopes that you can help. My husband and I used Bekins Boyer Rosene, North Ellis Street, Bensenville, IL 60106-1115 to move us from IL to Tx. They came out and gave us a quote and we had a contract.
The moving day came, June 30, 2010, and they arrived. The driver was rude and very unprofessional from the start. We had used a different Bekins in FL and had a good experience. On June 30, 2010 after loading part of our home, they informed us that they could not do another thing unless we agreed to pay an additional $1800. We went back and forth. They stated the box count was off when in essence they estimated too low and they had someone else's items on the truck which had overflow.
We went back and forth with the Boyer Rosene Office and they dropped it down to around $1300 additional. Under duress, my husband agreed to that as they had part of our home loaded. It was a holiday weekend, we had to be out of our home in IL and into TX. They sent a second truck as they had misjudged and stated that truck would be here Tuesday, July 13, 2010. It never came and no one ever called or contacted us to let us know anything about it. My husband finally reached the CEO of Boyer Rosene and our items are still in IL with no firm date of arrival. The owner basically told my husband that they bid the job too cheap and that he would "walk"from the business and we could just come get our items.
I am asking for your help. We have not been done correctly and after looking up reviews of Boyer-Rosene, this type of behavior seems to be a pattern with them. This is terrible business practice and we trusted the name Bekins and we have been taken advantage of. I have a dear friend in network television who, after hearing the story, wants to do a segment on this. I am hoping we can get this resolved without doing that. They can not hold your items and make you "pay ransom" for them. Our quote was $5590 and they now say it's $6887 and we have never gotten the rest of our household.
This week I went online and wrote a review for Boyer-Rosene about the non-delivery of my household and non-communication. Today we heard from the owner and their attorney saying they could get us our items on Monday if we signed their "legal document" which basically releases them from a liability in regards to this move. So we got our own attorney and once again they continue to hold our items hostage. We have already had to purchase items for our home that we needed that are on that truck and we also have missed work time dealing with this and the emotional stress has been huge.

I was very dissatisfied with the quality of service and the lack of professionalism exhibited by Bekins. We recently moved with Bekins Sarasota in late March from Florida to New Jersey. We selected Bekins as a reputable, trusted mover and we could not have been more wrong. We met with Steve ** on 2/16 and a few days later confirmed our move for 3/23 with a target delivery date of 3/26 and guaranteed for the 29th. Movers arrived with two men to pack an entire two-floor townhome, taking over 8 hours. Driver told us there was no way he would be in NJ on March 26th as he had a prior commitment! And yet the office consistently reassured us we were on target for the 26th. We placed a call on the 25th to Steve to find out what was happening and he never returned the call, although he was quick to respond prior to our signing the contract.
Needless to say the 26th came and went as did the 29th. We had to place calls to Bekins rather than Bekins proactively contacting us. We did not receive delivery until the 31st! And once again, just two men to unpack. It seems the third man was at the wrong address without a cell phone; he showed up three to four hours later.
Additionally, I was told my credit card would not be charged until delivery was made. I learned my card was charged on the 26th even though they knew delivery would not be made that day nor the 29th. I disputed the charge through Discover but was unsuccessful in obtaining a discount or even an acknowledgement that there were problems. Yes, the price was competitive but we would have gladly paid more to another company that was professional, honest and trustworthy. Again, be forewarned.

I purchased furniture from JC Penny and they use Bekins, at least in the Buffalo NY area. I live 5 minutes from work. My request, both delivery attempts was simple, please call me about one hour before delivery. My sofa sectional was supposed to be delivered 4/29/2010, but was never delivered. Today, 5/6/2010, Bekins was supposed to re-deliver my sectional along with my second furniture order between 3-7pm.
The Bekins delivery personnel showed at around 8:45pm, never called first as requested. The driver called, as I was opening the lobby door to let them in. The 2 young men complained the sofa would never fit into the elevator. I guess it upset them when I got my tape measure and showed the sofa sectional would fit. Then they made an excuse that to maneuver the sofa would take more room. I showed them I could remove the ceiling tiles and cross frames in the elevator and give almost 20inches more room. Considering the sofa was a week late and this day they were an hour and 45 minutes late, they could have waited 3-5 minutes for me to remove the ceiling tiles. The Bekins people claimed they already called the office and were told to come back another time.
Later, another resident of the apartment building told me his moving company had to take his sofa up the steps. I did not think of the steps and the large stairwell at the moment, they are movers after all and it was not like I needed them to sprint upstairs with it. But, since they were reluctant to even let me measure the sofa and never took it off the truck to see if it would fit, the stairs would not have been a likely option anyhow. It appeared to me, these guys were done for the day before they arrived, and were looking for any excuse to avoid doing their job. Well, I am cancelling the furniture from JC Penny and hopefully Penney's will not pay Bekins, since they did not even try to deliver anything.
Consequence is that I still have an apartment with no furniture, except for a couple of chairs I carried in myself and a bed delivered last November. JC Penny will loose me as a furniture customer due to their dealing with Bekins, a delivery company, that does not deliver.

I replied that Sean, the salesman, said that the movers would wrap them in moving blankets, which I agreed to. He griped and complained for about 10 minutes. I told him that if he did not want to move me, he could leave, and I would have to get another moving company. He said it's not a problem. 2 hours later, he started to complain that he could not get me moved in. He estimated time, and said he would require more time and of course money. I told him I could not afford to pay more. I was widowed 1 year ago. It didn't matter to him.
I called the salesman to complain, and ask for a new driver, which I was told this driver was their best. This went on all day. My son showed up and asked him what the problem was, and he asked my son if he wanted to waste more time, that he could do that. My son told him to stay by the truck while he called Bekins's main office, which did nothing at all. My sis called the police, and they said they would come out if we called them again. I then called the salesman, and he came out and babysit the driver, made him stay in the truck at the new house, and the men unloaded the furniture.
What a mess! I was distraught by that time, and had a hard time directing where to put things, although the boxes were labeled for where they were to go, as soon as the salesman left, the driver came off the truck and used my bathroom without asking, and then said to me, 'well, looks like you got moved for the estimate". I did not respond. I have broken crystal designer pieces, ruined $2,000 buffet, with wood chipped off. This was a move from **. Do not use Bekins. There is a lot moire to this horror story! I lost about $4,000.00 to $5,000.00.

Before choosing a moving company, I carefully researched three that seemed to be dependable, trustworthy, affordable and considerate of the customer's time. I decided to go with Bekins rather than the other two places I got estimates. The reason was that the job was treated like a local move (which typically ranges between $200-$300). In speaking with you, Ruben, I was impressed on how simple the process would be, how organized it sounded and the motivation the actual movers had to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. However, my moving experience with Bekins on Saturday, December 12, 2009 was not satisfactory for a number of reasons.
The reasons are: At 2:15, I contacted the main number to inquire where the movers were as it was after 2PM. The person who answered the phone was neither customer friendly nor helpful. He did advise me that the movers had a window of 2-4PM. I asked him if he could call them to determine their estimated time of arrival and call me back. He said he would do so. However, I never heard from him. At 4:20PM, I received a call from Fernando. He said they were an hour away. At 5:51PM, I called Fernando to find out how far they were from my home. He told me 10 minutes away.
At 6:12PM, Fernando called to tell me they arrived and to open the gate to our complex. I told him that I didn't live in a gated community, but the next complex over. Since I did not see them arrive in the next few minutes, I walked all the way over to the next complex and flagged them how to get to my place. These movers were over 2 hours late beyond the window I was told that they had. I showed Fernando what needed to be moved. He advised me of a $35 charge for my dresser mirror and a $10 for another item.
I said okay. At the end of loading the truck, I reminded Fernando about the plants and grill on the patio. He said that he didn't have anymore room in the truck. I'm not clear how 13 boxes and the furniture I described to you on the phone could not all fit on the truck. In fact, they had to strap a mattress and bedspring to the back of the truck in the pouring rain.
We arrived at the new place around 10PM. They told me that they couldn't double park. I informed them had they been here during the window, there was plenty of parking at that time. I suggested the back alley. They then complained about the cars being in the way. I told them I had no other solutions. When I went back inside the place, Fernando asked me to complete paperwork again. He had filled in the time that they were to finish as the final time (he wrote 12:00AM). I asked him why he was filling in the time now when they didn't know. He said he estimated the time of completion based on how long it took them to load it. I told him I didn't agree with this practice and Fernando stood there smiling waiting me to sign it anyways. In the end, they finished at 11:40PM, not 12AM as he wrote down.
After signing the documents, Fernando showed me the final bill to be $903.07. I inquired how come the final charges are three times the quote (which he had possession of as well). He then explained the following: It took 3 men 2.5 hours to load the truck ($210) and 2.5 hours to unload (another $210). This pricing is very different from the conversation I had with you on the phone. You estimated 3 hours for the move and assured me that these movers were motivated because they would want to continue with the next job. That was not the case with my experience. They moved extremely slow for a customer who had boxed up everything for them. Three men had to break down 2 beds and shrink-wrap a desk, small bath cabinet, a dresser, couch, loveseat, 2 dining chairs and a small round dining table. There was some furniture they never wrapped. I also learned that the men had 5 jobs that day and mine was the last job. What motivation and energy did they have to complete my job in a timely manner?
I was charged double drive time which cost $84. On my estimate, you quoted me $46.20 as the charge was for double miles. Why was there a difference in the cost at time of the job? Additionally, I was charged 1 hour (another $84) for their drive from San Ramon to Sacramento. Would you please point out in the estimate where you stipulated this charge? Furthermore, I was charged $315.07 in packaging materials. This amount is higher than the estimate in the total. While I understood the $35 charge for my dresser mirror and a $10 for another item, it certainly doesn't total $300 worth. Would you please tell me where this is listed in the quote you provided me?
After Fernando went over these charges, I advised him that I would discuss this further with you because my final costs were three times the amount of the estimate. Fernando then told me I had to pay in cash. I told him that if I was being charged what was estimated, I could pay in cash. I could pay in credit card or check. He said that I could only pay in cash. I told him I don't have that amount of money on hand. He told me to go to an ATM. I told him that I was not going to an ATM nor did I even know where one was at this time of the night in a new neighborhood. I reiterated the two options of credit card or check. He then said he would need to call and see if anyone was at the office to run the credit card number.
In the meantime, the two other men were standing around waiting and not unloading the truck. This behavior made me, as a customer, feel as if Bekins was holding my belongings hostage until a payment was made. This is very poor customer service. Additionally, when we talked, there was no stipulation that I had to pay in cash. You did advise me that if I paid in cash, I could get a discount. Why was this arrangement different at the time of delivery? Fernando then called his office and asked me to talk on the phone with the same person I spoke to. I gave him my credit card number and provided him with some of the concerns I had about the whole experience. I also told him that I would be following up with you with my concerns of unfair treatment.
Once I got off the phone and completed the payment process, the men began to unload the truck. They did re-assemble the 2 beds, dresser and dining table as well as removed shrink wrap from only the couch and loveseat (to re-assemble the legs). Therefore, this didn't take them 2.5 hours and Fernando did nothing to correct the charge. After assessing and accounting for all my things, I found two things wrong. One of the boards on my dresser that allows a drawer to slide in and out on is broken and missing. I now have to hire a contractor to repair my dresser. The other item is a shelf in a small bath cabinet. I saw the shelf sitting on the floor of my old place, but somehow it never made it to my new place. I contacted the place where I purchased this item and it is no longer available. Therefore, I will need to see if this contractor can also make me a shelf and stain it to match the rest of the cabinet. These same items were moved from Chicago to California without anything getting broken or lost.
After moving only 12 miles away, how could these items get damaged and/or lost? I am requesting the following from Bekins: I would like answers to my questions. I would like Bekins to charge me for what was stipulated in the estimate. More specifically, 3 hours of move time (had I been the first job of the day, I would guess that it would have taken them this long). Travel time of $46.20 (the address didn't change in the quote, I still moved to the same place). No charges for materials. This was not listed in the estimate. No charge for their travel time from San Ramon to my place in Carmichael. This was also not listed on the estimate. I didn't receive anything.

We interviewed several companies for our move from SLC to NH. We chose Bekins because they claimed to have excellent customer service and their rate "seemed" fair. We paid for full load and u-load at two locations and additional insurance of $150,000. I was flying into SLC the morning of the move and when I landed I had a voicemail from the person I had supervising the first move that said Bekins showed up with no help and the driver "misunderstood" and thought it was for a pickup only. So, "my person" had his own employees help to load the truck and also used his own packing materials and blankets.
By the time I go there, Bekins had one guy that had just arrived to load. He then went to the second location, had his "help" leave and my person at the second location loaded the truck. After the truck was en route, I received a phone call from "Fred" at Sugarhouse Moving and he wanted me to authorize additional money for the movers to unload. I, of course, said not a chance. A Bekins rep. came to both locations prior to the move and was well aware of the total shipment. He then proceeded to tell me that they would only place the contents in the garage and if I wanted them to bring them inside then I would have to pay extra. I'm sorry, isn't that called a "freight" company?
I told him that I paid for full service (load and unload) and that it would be absurd for me to pay for that if I just had to move all the items inside myself, not to mention, the garage would not hold the contents. I still had not received a contract (only emails about the cost and a promise to forward the contract; I still don't have a contract). The driver showed up, they loaded the contents inside. In the process several items were damaged, he damaged my neighbor's property. I have been back and forth with Sugarhouse (Bekins) asking them for the contract, how to file a claim and they are telling me that I owe them more money for the "loaders".
They also told me that I can't file a claim until I pay them more money. I got a bill from the person I hired to be there to watch them load for "his workers" and a bill for the 300 blankets that Bekins used from him and never returned. I have finally received a "collection" notice for $119.98 from Bekins. I paid them $6,853 already. When I called Sugarhouse, they said that they are not responsible for the driver taking the blankets and not having help. They said I would have to contact him. They also said they contacted Bekins corporate regarding my neighbor's property. My neighbor has received nothing. This all took place In November. Bekins should be shut down.

My move from Las Vegas should have been a simple one. The packers did a great job, but when it came to delivery time and costs (COD vs my contract), they were all over the place, making changes, not doing what they were supposed to do. They left two things on the truck and it took me one week to get them. They still owe me $60.51. It's a nightmare dealing with them. Do not use them. I am owed money.

Everything that I packed was intact except for one painting that they placed the wrong way. Almost every piece of my furniture was damaged and their insurance company is giving me a very hard time. They don't want to pay up. Bekins promoted "free replacement value" but they are not sticking by that. The movers were very nice but lazy and not competent. None of my furniture was blanket wrapped when taken downstairs. My glass coffee table was not crated as it was supposed to be.

We selected Bekins based on their name and their sales person's sales pitch. We were appalled by the age of some of their movers. I almost felt bad to see them work that way. The end result of using them, however, was that some of furniture was damaged. They responded to our claim by telling us "Tough luck". In the madness of the last stages of the unloading, we signed a document (one of many shoved in our faces) that freed them from any liability. I even tried to call and write a letter to their local president. I was not given the courtesy of a response. I now spend most evenings looking at the 20" deep gash in my $3,000 quarter-sawn oak coffee table. Thanks Bekins, I'm really amazed at your lack of consideration. I will never use you again and will pass my dissatisfaction to anyone that will listen.

In moving from California to Florida, I contracted with Bekins to leave a partial shipment with my daughter in Corpus Christi, TX. I paid an additional $850 for this service. When the truck arrived in Corpus, they said some of the items were too far back in the truck. The driver, Andrew **, refused to unload, but said the problem would be taken care of in Florida. When the shipment arrived, the Texas items were found clearly marked for their destination. Even though I asked about the misdirected items, Mr. ** told me to sign the receipt, saying that customer care would take care of the problem.
I contacted Care on September 19, 29, and October 6, and was told each time that Bekins would have the items picked up by UPS. On Oct. 7, they notified me that because I had signed the sheets, there was no recourse for my problem. Since I had paid an additional $431 for a "no excuse" move, I felt they had taken advantage of me and had misrepresented their services. My items were all in good condition, but it will cost approximately $400 for me to pay to ship them back to Texas.

I had Bekins move my belongings into storage for a week and when my furniture was delivered, a few days later as I unpacked, I found that all my rings had been stolen from my jewelry box. Moving into storage was a last minute move when my next home was not ready, so I didn't get all my valuables removed. I was even very nice to the movers as it was a bit emotional for me to move. I had to sell my house because I couldn't afford the payments anymore and I mentioned this to them, yet they still stole from me. I contacted Bekins, but I haven't heard back. I will never use Bekins again.

I was moving from Margate, FL to Freehold, NJ. We contacted Bekins of South FL to move all my belongings to my new residence in NJ. We spoke to the Bekins sales person named Mike **. He gave us the cost of the move and how long it would take for delivery of my things. He insisted that we take the maximum insurance for this move due to the High Value of my furniture and belongings. We were insured for $100,000. This plan is called Bekins for All It's Worth, FAIW, which is different than their Basic Liability Coverage.
When the delivery arrived in NJ, the driver told us to come to the truck to see my belongings. I was aghast at how the truck was packed and the damages that ensued. Bekins has the recorded documents of all the specific items of damage. We contacted our furniture repair company. We have used them for 50 years and they do the highest quality work. They do repairs all over the USA. He provided us with an estimate for all the damages and we gave him a deposit of $4,320 that is almost the amount of the move. The total cost for all the repairs is $8,640. The repair company's name is Dufine Furniture Decorators who are located in the Bronx, NY.
Bekins at first offered me around $850 which we declined immediately. They then sent a check for $4,954 which we also returned. They called me on 9/5/09 that this was their final offer, take it or leave it. This furniture that is so badly damaged is almost antique. They will be so devalued with the needed repairs, that was supposed to be my children's and grandchildren's inheritances. Now they will be worthless. What can we do to be reimbursed for the moves cost, repair of all damaged furniture, and the fact that we cannot use the furniture due to these damages? I am a 90 year young independent woman who Bekins thinks they can swindle and not reimburse because they think they will outlast me. They will not and if they do, my children and grandchildren will continue the fight.

My family moved to West Virginia and after getting estimates from many different moving companies, Bekins seemed to be the most helpful and we anticipated little problems. The sales person was very friendly and promised to take care of us. As anyone who moved knows, moving is a big stress on a family, sometimes more than others. My daughter, who packed all of her belongings for college, anticipated having them two weeks before she went as promised by Bekins delivery date.
The sales representative told our family that it would only take one day to pack all of our stuff. He estimated all of our belongings and told us that, seeing as my mother would be coming with us, it would be no problem to go to where she was living and pack her stuff along with ours. The first loading day proved the sales representative's words to be false. The driver of the Bekins van came up to me and told me there was no way they could pack all of our stuff in one day because the crew he had did not know what they were doing. They barely got anything done for a job that was supposed to be completed. When trying to load our refrigerator, they underestimated its size and therefore it would not fit through our door. Instead of measuring it before they moved it, they were attempting to disassemble the door on the stairs. The driver told us that he would try and get a whole new crew for the next day and that they would be done by noon.
Day 2 arrives and the movers were excellent. They were trying to pick up the slack of the previous day’s work in less than half the amount of time. The closing of our house was supposed to be on this day, but before the buyers signed the papers, they wanted a final walk through of the house to make sure moving didn't damage anything. That’s perfectly understandable. Well, noon rolls around and our movers are still not out of the house because they were so far behind from the day before. The buyers of our house were breathing down our backs having the cable company coming at eleven and then their moving truck coming at two because the house was supposed to be theirs that day. The movers, therefore, had to take all of our stuff out of the house and put it on the driveway in order for the new owners to unload their stuff into the house. Finally, at three o'clock we were all set; however, the driver informed us that there would be no way they could fit any of my mom's stuff into this van. The driver called his boss and she told us that we had a lot of bulky items.
Bulky items are not our issue! We had the guy come and estimate it and he said that it would be perfectly fine and my mother's items would fit. We even sold some of our bulky items so there should have been even more room! They said they could pick her stuff up in three days, but we were moving the next day! Luckily, there was another truck loading in a nearby city that could stop at my mom's around six, but her stuff would not be with ours as planned. They arrived at my mom's and being told it would only take an hour, she waited with them. My 84-year-old mother stood for over three hours waiting for the packers who were excellent packing all of her stuff. The driver told her if someone would have called him earlier, they would have gone over sooner. Finally, all our stuff was packed, but our troubles did not end there.
We arrived in West Virginia under the impression that we would be moving into our house in 5 or so days. Bekins told us our stuff would be coming in seven. Okay. Then we were called and told later that our items would be at least two days late and had an estimated arrival time of nine to fifteen days. On the sixth day, we received all these urgent calls from Bekins; but seeing as we get little service in our apartment, we had trouble receiving these messages. Finally, my daughter answered the phone while my husband and I are out and relays a message from the sales representative that the movers where coming with our stuff and they needed an address.
It was late when we received this message, so I called them at eight o'clock the next morning anticipating our stuff to be there within at least two days. I left a message when no one answered. We get a call at four o'clock in the afternoon from the sales representative saying our stuff was in West Virginia and they didn't have an address. He had no idea about any of our problems and blamed us for not telling him we couldn't move into our house. We told him from the beginning that we would possibly need to store our items. The sales rep said that was no problem. With the truck already in West Virginia two days early, they tell us there is no storage place there that they deal with. Out of all our options, the best was to take our stuff back to Chicago and store it with them so as if anything happens they would deal with it.
My daughter’s college material and belongings were on the truck that is today on its way back to Chicago. I told the sales rep about all our problems and everything their company did to inconvenience us and asked him what they would do for us. He said, quote, "If you're thinking that you are going to get compensated, that is not going to happen. The only thing I can do for you is apologize." So now we must pay for storage in Illinois and wait until we get our house in order for the movers to drive back to West Virginia and unload our belongings. Everything that could have gone wrong with our moving company did and that company was Bekins.

In June 2004, my family moved from Orange County, CA to Cherokee County, GA. We chose Bekins to help us because in CA, they promised to take care of our possessions, arrive in GA on time, and help us setup our new home with care. The CA Bekins employees were very good except for one. This particular employee was rude and obnoxious. Once the van was in Georgia, the entire process broke down.
The van was seven days late in arriving! Bekins had a record of the van being delivered to Evans & Evans Moving & Storage in La Grange, Georgia. In reality, the van was delivered to Sykes Moving & Storage and, for all intent and purpose, was held hostage by a dispatcher. This man lied to my wife on several occasions about the mechanical condition of the van and the supposed only tractor he had to deliver it. He also repeatedly lied to my Bekins sales rep in CA. The driver that delivered the van was arrogant and uncooperative, and the crew paid no attention to which room the boxes were labeled for. They piled heavy boxes on top of one another and as a result broke some of our belongings. This crew was nothing more than day-laborers that Sykes hired the day of delivery. They had utterly no experience in the moving business.
Moving a family across the nation is stressful enough without having the moving company compound the anxiety and fear that a family endures. My move cost over $12,000. I formally requested Bekins corporate in Hillside, IL to refund half the amount as compensation for such disastrous performance. The senior vice president at the time refused and made utterly no effort to preserve Bekins' reputation or make any corrections to the situation. This Bekins corporate officer responded by insisting that my situation was an unfortunate and occasional experience that Bekins had no control over.

My furniture was picked up on July 1st. On July 14, by coincidence, I found out that my delivery dates were changed to July 18-20 without my knowledge. I have talked to the sales person Alain ** and director of Customer Care Teresa ** and explained to them once more that any delivery after the 17th would force me to cancel some very important personal plans and that I am also starting a new job on July 20th. I told them that this is breach of contract. Alain's response was "** happens. I am sure this was not the first time you were inconvenienced. Have you not ever had your flight canceled?" Teresa talked to the driver and found out that the truck left FL late (for reasons she would not explain to me) and they just moved my delivery date to fit Bekins' schedule. She was sorry but could do nothing about it.
This company also ignores my requests to receive a copy of the document showing the actual weight of my goods and the document called the rights and responsibilities. Although I was provided with a bill of lading number, no bill of lading document was provided either.

After doing a bit of research, we contacted several moving companies that were "recommended" via the State of California's reputable mover's website. After receiving quotes, we chose Bekins as their "not to exceed quote" was the most reasonable to move our household to Hawaii from Napa, CA. Their quote was "not to exceed $5,144.00". They came and packed up our household on 18 June 2009 and we got all of the necessary paperwork showing that we have a total of 163 items. After not hearing from them for some time, we had to contact them to find out what the final cost was going to be. It seems that the initial estimate was not including an overseas shipping charge and that we now have 180 pieces. The final amount is going to be $6,900.00 and of course, they are not going to ship our items until we pay.
The contact person is hemming and hawing about the reasons why he never included this overseas shipping charge and other incidental charges. The fiscal damage to all of this will be an extra $1,800, which we really cannot afford, plus all of our belongings are now stuck at a warehouse awaiting shipping until this matter is resolved.

On 8/7/08, the household was picked up in Cary, Illinois for move to Woodburn, Oregon. On 8/12- 8/15, it was to be delivered to Woodburn. We booked airline tickets for my husband to come out and help me unpack. But on 8/12, I received call to say the furniture hadn't even left Illinois. And I didn't know the load would be delivered as they couldn't find a driver. Then we were told a driver did pick up the load but quit halfway after taking the load.
On 8/18, we were told the load was in Portland and would deliver on Thursday. Then on 8/21, the load arrived in Woodburn at 8:30 am. One of the crew was surprised that the load was not sealed as all loads are to be sealed at destination before leaving. He gave me his dispatcher's name and told me to call him to ask.
My husband called, and the dispatcher was not cooperative at all. The dispatcher called the person who told me this and was told not to talk to me about this delivery. On the bill of loading, the receiver added "Take camera!" I questioned this and was told they didn't know why that was written. When they opened the truck, one of the crew said this whole load shifted and started taking pictures. When I questioned why they were taking so many pictures, I was told because their dispatcher said to make sure they document everything on this load. I then asked for a copy of all the pictures and was told they couldn't let me take the disc and upload the pictures on the computer because they have confidential pictures on the camera.
I then called the Bekins agent we signed with and let her know we were having more trouble with this load. My husband was at the Cary house when the load was being loaded, and he knew what was loaded when. The first thing he questioned about was the Oak Fireplace Mantel. He wanted to know if it made it ok, as our furniture was in the back of this trailer for 2 weeks in the hot and humid weather of the summer. The Oak Mantel was one of the last pieces of furniture put on the truck. When the load was delivered this piece was in the middle of the load. The crew was taking so many pictures as they were unloading that I didn't realize how many they really took. I called the company and requested that I get a copy of those pictures. I was told they really weren't supposed to, but she would send them to me. I received the pictures and sent them to the Bekins agent in Illinois.
The crew was also put out that I wanted the furniture put back together. They complained that they still had another move to do, and already, this took longer than they expected. There were boxes that were to go in my daughter's room and were put in the garage. I asked when there were going to put them upstairs. I was told don't worry, they would bring them up when they were finished. This never happened. I also told them several times not to block the emergency turn off valve for the water or the circuit breaker box in the garage. When we were going through the end of the move I said that they blocked it and I couldn't get to it. I was told "Sorry, I guess the other guys didn't listen."
Then on 8/22, I smelled mold in the family room and in my daughter's. I called the Bekins agent in Illinois, and they told me I would have to contact someone to have them come out. On 8/23, an adjuster came to the house. He looked at the mess I was left with and told me as I was unpacking to take pictures of the damage and include it in my claim. I asked if he needed to see it, and he said no, because the damage was excessive and the boxes were so badly damaged and the pictures I take would be fine. He said he couldn't smell the mold, but he didn't have a good sense of smell.
On 8/29, I bought another airline ticket for my husband to come out and help me, as I couldn't walk anywhere around the house or move the furniture, as it was too heavy for me. My husband got the house back together and started more of the unpacking. He only had 1 day to get as much done as possible. He was able to get the garage back to where you could walk through it and even was able to put the car back into it. All this was done with what was in there and stacking it neatly. On 10/8, my husband had all moved out to Oregon. He thoroughly surveyed everything for the claim, so it was accurate. He had to take apart furniture, as it wasn't properly put together.
This is the letter I wrote to the insurance company Bekins recommended we insured our household goods with. This was a joke. The main item we had on the high valuation form wasn't covered, because they don't cover furniture that is warped. What furniture won't warp in a trailer that is over 100 degrees for two weeks? Also, press board furniture is not covered at all. I don't know many households that don't have press board furniture. After Six and Givings paid out what they would pay out, I then had to contact Bekins for the damaged items that were not covered with Six and Givings. Bekins immediately denied the claim.
I wrote a dispute letter to Bekins. I called a few weeks later to make sure it was received. I was dealing with Vera. I asked to speak to her and was told to just leave her a voice mail. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, Vera then became available to speak to me. I have had to give so much documentation to show my claim was valid, which I did. The broker from Bekins in Illinois actually has been the most helpful throughout this whole process. But the claims department has not been. This move took place in August 2008, and we are still fighting. The whole load shifted, as we indicated by the pictures; and still, we are fighting with them.

I waited 10 days still no check. I called once more on March 18, 2009 and spoke with Katheline. She then stated that she was aware that I spoke with someone 2 weeks ago and that their account department was backed up in work. Then she proceeded to state that she will contact the account department to release the funds. I asked if there was any way that I could get this direct deposit or priority mail. She said she couldn't process direct deposit but would be willing to speak to her supervisor to get this check rushed priority.
I called on March 19, 2009 to speak with a supervisor. Katheline took the call and proceeded to inform me that their account department was behind in work and that she said it will take 10 days for me to receive the check. I then asked to speak with a supervisor and she said she wouldn't allow me to speak with her but that she will have her call me. I gave her my number and asked what supervisor's name was. She said Penny. I can respect the fact that they have been overworked but the issue I have is that it took them over six months to finally determine my furniture was damaged. And I wouldn't have been upset if they informed me that I wouldn't be receiving a check for about 3 months. The fact of the matter is the customer service agents gave me the runaround and straight up lied about the check ever being mailed out. This is very unprofessional and I don't know how these individuals stay employed.

All my items were packed, but my mirror to my dresser and my box springs and mattress, he stated he would have them bring used boxes and not charge me. Not so, they charged me $553.17 and the packers stated they packed 31 boxes. Not true, all my boxes were put in storage by Charles ** on 6-13-2008. The name on the boxes were Aloha Moving Services. They were used boxes with other people's names on them with orange tags. Bekins were red. Also, they charged for stuff that I felt I should not have had to pay.

On 1-7-2009, I did an agreement to have my furniture picked up by Bekin. On 1-9-2009, I was told it would be about $2.828.86 that was just a non-binding estimate. Later I was told because I had 5,900 lbs, it would be $3,396. I got a call and was told it would be 3$,773.86. I had to pay it because they had all my furniture, and I am disabled and all I get is social security. Mr. ** told me one price and I had to pay another. Also I call them, no one will call me back. I had a trash can full with canned goods, 30 cans, because they do not sell the items here. The can was taped up. When I got it, there was no food and the top was in the can. Also I did not get my glass shelf that goes to my china cabinet.
I called and was told someone would call me back. No one did. Do you know how I did not eat for 5 mo. to save money to get my items and not to have all of your stuff. I was sent an invoice for over $8.000 to have them still cheat me and charge me for insurance, emergency fuel, almost $200 to pack my bed and almost $400 for mirrors. That is crazy. I was told that my price would be less than $3,300, because I should get a military and senior discount.

The number of screw ups with Bekins would fill a book. First the movers (who were not professional but perhaps day labor) walked off the job when they saw how much was to be moved. It took most of the day for them to find two young guys who were also not pro's. When they got there, the driver said they did not have time to itemize each box as they got such a late start. We agreed (stupidly) because we also had a deadline to meet at the end of the move. It took all day for them to load and they had at least a partial truck left. They said they would be at the house at 8am the next morning to finish loading a new truck. We were hostages at that point.
Our house cleaners were canceled and I would have to clean after they left by myself. They did not show up at 8am, or 9, or 10, or 11am and we were panicking. It was the weekend so no one answered at the office! Finally someone showed up about 12:30pm and they finished. I hurriedly cleaned because I had to be across the country at the destination to meet the first truck that had left the day before! I could not do a great cleaning job and that bothered me but what else could I do.
When we got to our destination, all went ok with the second truck to arrive within the week. There was no quicker delivery because it was not a full load and even though it was their mistake, they were going to wait until they had a more full load. I had my chairs on the first truck and all my lamps and tables on the second...etc, so it was a difficult week. I noticed some goods were not on the first truck but assumed they would be on the second. NOT so. I called Bekins and they basically said prove it. How do you prove something is not delivered?
Their own man said he did not have time to itemize the boxes. I offered my copy of the list but it would do no good since it just said the number of boxes etc. I got nowhere even with a detailed description of the missing paintings. Their attorney said again, prove they were not delivered. I could not because of their mistakes from the start. An unorganized and unprofessional group who had little customer service and nothing from the company to try to help with the situation. I was left to just feel bitter about the whole experience and wonder who has my paintings and mirrors now. Did Bekins sell them? Who knows but I know they didn't try to help me find them and they didn't care they had lost them.
Consequence: I lost about a $1000 worth of art and mirrors with no recourse.

I contracted this company to move my household goods from Florida to CT. The packers sent were boys - in their teens - and were being trained while packing my goods! Needless to say, they did not do a good job. Many of my breakables were not wrapped in any paper and very heavy items were placed on top of much lighter items - they were smashed to pieces! My son's iPod was stolen right off the counter in our kitchen when they were delivering the boxes. One of the unloaders happened to mention that he was a friend of the driver! He wasn't even employed by Bekins - do they just pick up people off the street!!!!!!!!!!!! I had several boxes lost - I believe they were taken as they were full of CDs, silverware and Lladro figures.
I also had pictures removed from their frames, shoved back into the frame and destroyed. There was no reason that the photos were to be removed from the frames - I was told they were looking for either money or drugs! Are they that desperate that they think a 65-year-old woman and her husband would have drugs hidden in family photos. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this company is not reputable at all and I DO NOT recommend them.

Thank you for publishing the complaint I sent last week. Today when I returned to my house, there was a large Fed Ex box on my front porch. Its return address was that of Mike **, the Bekins driver who was in charge of my move and the person I suspected of stealing the safe. It was shipped to me from him from the state of Pennsylvania, not Florida, where the move originated. I moved to Tennessee. I assume this may be his home address as no reference to Bekins is on the box. There was no paperwork with the box.
When I opened the box, the safe was still sealed but it had obvious marks where someone had attempted to pry off the back of it, and there were also scratches around the hinges on the front. And I've still never talked to anyone from Bekins except ladies who work in the office at the corporate office. The local person I dealt with (Carol) was an agent which I found out is different than an employee of Bekins -- the middleman, I guess. No one has even called me back about my complaint. Move your valuable things yourself!!! Don't trust these companies to hire honest people and make sure you have full insurance coverage on valuable with someone.

The driver was rude and aggressive to me when my furniture was delivered. Also personal things of an intimate nature had been gone through and some of my items were left in my MAILBOX! But upon unpacking, I discovered that a Sentry home safe I owned and was clearly listed on the inventory was missing. I do not believe this was an accident that the item of most potential value was lost. From the conduct of the driver, I'm sure the safe was stolen. After phone calls to Bekins AND filing a police report for insurance (ALTHOUGH MOST ITEMS WEREN'T INSURED), I filed a report to the Better Business Bureau. The day after I did that, Bekins called me to tell me that had SUDDENLY found the safe and had it in their warehouse. Since that time, I haven't been able to get them to make arrangements to ship it back to me. They wanted the driver to return it to me (from Florida to Tennessee!) which was not satisfactory to me at all. This man had already been intimidating and threatening to me and not someone I wanted any contact with. I've had some phone response from the Bekins corporate office but haven't had my property returned to me. There were also more normal house items missing, i.e., vacuum cleaner, artists easel, etc.

I hired Bekins to move all of my stuff including my car from Florida to Utah. I paid for the 100K insurance with no deductible. I made a call and showed the driver all of the damages I could see the same day of delivery but was told by corporate I had to file a claim in writing and that it couldn't be done over the phone. I wanted to make sure I got everything in the claim so I quickly unpacked and found even more items. The amount of damage I obtained from a supposed reputable company is astounding and disgusting. I have calculated over $30K in damages and my car is not part of that amount.
The only thing I got lucky about was that my car was fine, although almost the only thing not fine. I have been staring at a big screen TV with a rainbow and double images since May of 2008 when this happened and my toddler has been on a mattress on the floor because her crib was ruined. They even used my hamper and garbage cans to stuff things in instead of boxing them up when I paid for full packing service!!!! I filed the claim within 7 days of delivery. I followed up several times and was told that they had 90 days to respond. And they used up every single day of that 90 days only to send me a letter on the last day denying my entire claim stating it wasn't written on the documentation.
First of all, they ask you to sign paperwork saying how great the service is right after they drop the last package before you even have time to look around. Not to mention the items in boxes that are ruined. How are you to know what is ruined or missing until you unpack and I did point out the damages I did see and was told that pertains to the other driver and not the service of the delivery guy. The driver also hired 2 guys from a local temp agency to unload the truck that were not Bekins employees and looked like they were on Heroin!
So I sent an appeal letter that is 3 pages long. I followed up on that letter and was told they now have ANOTHER 90 days to respond. So it has been over 6 months living like this when I paid extra for not only their packing service so they couldn't blame my packing skills but also for a 0 deductible insurance in the amount of $100,000 more than enough to cover the damages. They have now missed their self-proclaimed 90-day allowance and I am ready to find them in default and require them to pay full damages. I just need to find a way to do it pro se because I don't have the money for an attorney. How this company has earned it's reputation is beyond me!

Cox is a broker for Bekins. Both Cox and Bekins are culprits, but I want to let consumers know that these brokers are absolutely useless and especially this one - Cox. I was looking for a moving company to move my 4 bedroom house full of items from Tampa to the SF bay area in CA. I got quotes ranging from $2000 to $5000 - the latter being from Cox/Bekins.
I decided to go with a reputed company given that I already had a taste of moving blues with my cars being delayed by nearly two weeks beyond the promised date. The "President" of this company - Mr.Cox - himself came to my home to give me the quote and assured me that I am dealing with a high integrity professional company. The goods arrived two weeks late and my dining set was ruined.
They took 2 months to settle my claim and paid me $48. That is based on the insurance of 60 cents per pound and since they only ruined my four chairs - that is all I was going to get. Never mind, I couldn't find the set in CA and that I have to chuck the table, buffet and all six chairs. Not once could I have a decent conversation on the phone with either Cox or Bekins folks who at times were downright rude. Horrible horrible people in both places. I really hope that these folks get their just desserts.

What a nightmare this move turned out to be. We contracted with Bekins in July/08 for a move from Miami, FL to Mississippi. The agent that came to write the estimate was as nice as he could be. The movers that came were also very professional and they wrapped and packed all items as they were supposed to. However, when I asked if they were the ones that was going to actually transport the items, they told me that all the furniture and boxes will be stored in a warehouse in Fort Lauderdale until the driver has a full load. This was a big surprise because the agent told us that the items never leaves the truck. I called the agent immediately and he was very appologitic and states that 95% of the time this would never happen but summer is a very busy time and not to worry the items are marked and will be safe and not get lost. This is when the nightmare began.
One week later, l the items came the day as it was promised. However, prior to delivering, the driver called and said that the area that I was moving to do not have any moving companies available, and therefore, will need to contact the nearest available movers to have someone come out and help with the unloading. Basicaly, the driver hired 2 laborors to unload our things.
When the truck arrived and the doors opened, many of the boxes were on top one another and crushed. They ripped the upholstery of the sofa as they were moving it into the house. These individuals had no regards for anything. The end result, they lost an end table that was given to me by my mother, lampshades that were packed by Bekins were crushed. Worst of all, they scratched the wood floors horribly as they were unloading into our home.
I called the agent right away. He informed me that we were fully insured and not to worry. We filed a claim immediately. It has been a month since we filed our claim. We have not heard from anyone. Try to get someone to talk to us has been impossible. There is a lady, Yolanda, that answers the phone at Bekins, she will not give any information nor will she transfer us to someone that can give us any assistance. We would just like to know if they have even received the claim or what is that status of the claim.
The claim was sent certified, return receipt, and someone by the name of V. shack signed for it, so I know someone received it. I would not recommend Bekins to anyone. They were very nice and helpful until they load your possessions and take your money and the nightmare begins. I would not recommend BEKINS to anyone, and if someone asks me about the company, I will discourage potential customers from using them. Table lost, crushed lampshades, ripped upholstery, and wood floors damaged.

Our household goods were moved from Vancouver, Washington to Cape Cod, Massachusetts by a Bekins contractor named Pele. If I understand it correctly, Bekins contracts with different truck owners to pick up and deliver household goods. The move out of Vancouver went well. I had done all our packing so all that had to be done was disassembling and wrapping of furniture and loading everything onto the very large truck. At the other end...Cape Cod...the Bekins guy had to hire movers and off-load to a smaller truck because the long trailer truck couldn't fit down our very narrow road. The need for a small transporter truck was known before the move took place. It was factored into the cost. Unloading from the smaller truck didn't begin until 3:00 in the afternoon and was not completed until after midnight. The humidity was so high that all cardboard boxes and furnishings were wet and covered with bugs. I wanted to stop the unloading process when it got dark and finish the next morning but was told that I couldn't. Not knowing the cost or consequences I allowed the unloading to continue.
As a result, the house had to be fumigated and 2 large humidifiers were required to dry everything out, including 70+ book boxes of books that were to be sold in Massachusetts. Two days after the move we noticed our very expensive 12'X 12' wool area rug was missing and called the driver who was on his way back to the west coast. He said the rug was on a rack under the truck and that it would be returned to us as soon as possible. A month later we called and, once again, were assured that the rug would be brought back to us. After that, Pele did not answer our calls. We called the headquarters for Bekins in Illinois and were told that they have no control over the driver and could not guarantee that the rug would ever be returned. They said to file a claim. We believe that the rug was, technically, stolen from us since. It was not lost, damaged or misplaced. The driver kept it. A comparable rug would cost between $1000 and $1500 to purchase new. We think our rug should be returned or that we should receive replacement value...not the 60 cents per pound that Bekins wants to give us. We are currently considering a lawsuit against Bekins and the driver.
I have one other concern about Bekins and offer this advice as a heads-up. When a representative comes to estimate the cost of your move, and/he or she records the condition of the each piece of furniture, do not sign unless you read their comments about the piece and agree. Every piece of furniture moved was recorded as soiled and scratched. This was not true! As an example, I had just had our dining room tabletop professionally refinished. There wasn't a mark on it yet it was marked scratched. Clearly, they do this to discount a future claim against them. Also remember that you must produce sales receipts if you have a claim. I guess this works if you have just purchased your furniture, but if you have traditional furniture, family heirlooms, etc. that took years to accumulate, you're in trouble.
Our cost to move was just over $10,000. However, the loss of our rug and the cost of humidifiers, etc. added another $3000 to the move.

Another problem that I encountered is he failed to provide the right moving dates. He had me moving in July instead of August. He had to change the paperwork again. He waited 3 weeks before my moving date to send the contract to me. I notified him everyday to send the paperwork. He was prolonging it out, thinking that no other moving company will move me because time was at the essence.
When he finally decided to send the contract it was a different estimate of a total of $3910.00. I called him to discuss this with him and he insinuated that the grand total that was online did not mean $2,690.00. On the first contract it states all the charges is $2690. He also said their was something wrong with my computer. I have never been so humiliated in my life. While talking to him on the phone again he said the estimate was suppose to be $3587.00, not $3910. This is the third estimate that he gave us. When he arrived three days late, he was in a hurry and had hired his nephew to help him unload. There were two pieces of antique furniture that had broken legs that we noted right away, he told us to get a claim form and send it in with the number of the item.
After unpacking and finding a few more problems we did as instructed and called ITS Global to send us the forms which they did. I submitted the form three months later as we had to return to WA state due to illness in the family. I sent the form in three months to the date of the delivery, and to my surprised received a letter back stating we were past the nine months to file a claim. I decided that Bekins customer service could not count, since 12/03/05 to 3/04/06 was not nine months. My husband then called and was told another story, that we had to report it to the agent and that the driver had to sign off -- how could this be when he wouldn't stay around long enough to let us even look over things.
Since then my husband has tried repeatedly to get in contact with someone and has yet to receive a call back. Another agent did tell him to write another letter which we have, but to no avail, we like others have not received any calls back, nor any adjustments, we have taken this to ITS Global and they have had problems contacting them also.

After lies, and storage and not knowing where my irreplaceable items where that Steve W said he would ship on Nov 7th, we never got any calls back, totally ignored, Jeff the useless sales guy never even registered my overflow shipment, never updated my address which he got on Oct. 26th. After many calls to Corporate in Illinois, we got someone to somewhat help. We found out that the inconveinence fee for not delivering on time is ONLY if your overflow weighs over 5k lbs, another little oversight he forgot to mention.
I get my truck on NOV 7th, broken windshield scrapes and scratches. I called Bekins and they said my truck is covered by the transporter and i must contact them, there is nothing Bekins can do.
After much fighting over the phone several times a day trying to get my stuff, we got a call on NOV 18th from bekins in orlando, that they got out shipment somehow, Hmmm, Tampa, Orlando, I could see how they got the two mixed up. We get our things and then we find damaged items, turn them in to the insurance company, 3rd party and here we still wait for the check. What they don't tell you is that electronics are not covered unless they have visible damage.

This claim was filed in approximately late March or early April. By early July I still had not heard any word relating to a portion of the claim, that being our Arcade Game. I contacted Mr. Ed W of Bekins, he had left for the day and I instead left him a voice mail. I had never received a phone call back, then out of the blue a couple of weeks later I received a denial letter. Very upset about this I again contacted Ed and was told that I would need to email or send him in writing a request to reopen the claim.
I did this the same day I received the letter, 7/25/05. On that day Ed did respond that the email was received. Still no word on the status of the claim being reopened I contacted Ed again this was on 8/10/05 at 11:51 a.m., he told me that I should have an answer by the end of the week. Two months later and I still had heard absolutely nothing!
I then wrote a letter to Michel Rogers Director of Claims, this was in early October. As of today 1/3/2006 I have heard absolutely nothing that my claim has ever been reopened! I feel that this claim was not immediately declined intentionally , as I was still within my 9 months, to claim any other damages not previously reported. After that 9 months had expired, Bekins had no regard for how I was treated, if my things were damaged.

A slick sales person from Bekins in Chula Vista made many promises to me about my move & handling of possessions. NOTHING turned out as promised. Items were packed sloppily and broken. I paid a PREMIUM for the out of state move (California to Nevada). They packed 1/2 of my house (had me by the short hairs) then told me that the delivery would not take place for 3 days and that they'd made "no promises." This isn't what the estimate said that the sales person gave me. In fact, after only 2 calls initially, I never heard from the sales person again.
They delivered my household in 2 days. They broke my family room sofa, then said that the sofa was broken prior to the move (a lie). The sofa matches a chair in my family room, thus it has now ruined my entire set. Boxes were in wrong rooms, and I still cannot find some items. Bedroom sets were assembled with wrong mattresses. Mirrors were never moved or connected back to dressers. Boxes for bedrooms were in living room and visa versa.
They requested that I stand and "count" boxes coming off truck. I made the move of a 5 bedroom house "solo." I could not "count boxes" and tell them where furniture should be placed (again, by the short hairs). So, they made me sign a form saying I would not count boxes (a cheap benefit for them).

My husband was killed in Iraq and Bekins moved me to Texas from Ft Lewis Washington. I purchased additional insurance and was very nice to them, buying them food everyday and tipping them. They dropped off my things leaving me to put it all together and carry it all up the stairs by myself. I was in a new area with my two year old and did not know a soul. They never picked up the boxes and I had to pay to have them hauled off.
I was missing boxes of my late daughter's belongings, and my husband's dress blues. They broke my antique mirror and swore it would be replaced, it was never replaced. All of my breakables were broken, and they packed food with toilet brushes, and used wardrobe boxes to pack single bottles of hawiian punch, milking it for all they could. My doctor prescribed me Valium that I refilled while the movers were there, i went to take out the trash, and half of the bottle was missing, while I overheard the packers talking about partying and crystal meth.
I spoke to the supervisor, who responded by saying he would always take his employees word over a customer. So upon the stress of losing a daughter, and a husband, I had to deal with these horrible people. I don't wish bad upon people, but Bekins really should not be in business. They are disgusting, immoral, and uneducated people.

Insurance was paid on these goods; however, our claim for loss and
damage, which amounted to almost $2,500 and included original repair,
purchase and estimate documents, was denied without explanation.
Bekins refuses to return our phone calls. The handling of this claim
directly contrasts their advertising claims and future shippers should
be forewarned.

Bekins recently moved us from Sacramento, California to Parrish, Florida. Damage occurred to some of our furniture because of water damage caused by a leak in the roof of the trailer as it crossed the country. Additional furniture damaged was caused by tools improperly used by Bekins' staff as well as inadequate padding placed around the furniture. After a claim was filed; Bekins' estimated $468.55 in damages and then subtracted a $500 deductible from the estimate .. holding me responsible for Bekins' negligence.
Estimates that I have received from reputable furniture refinishers have exceeded $1,123.00. Bekins's and the local Bekins' origination company have ignored all letters that I have sent to them regarding the resolution of my claim.

I hired Bekins Movers to store some of my furniture and then move me to Arkansas. They picked up the stuff to be stored on May 27, 2005. June 29, 2005 they picked up the rest of the load to bring it to AR. I only received one third of the load. I followed their instructions and filed a claim. I waited over the 45 days and called them. They told me that the driver MAY have part of my things. Because of the hurricane they asked me to wait another two weeks. I feel that they have had more than enough time to locate my things.
I took out value insurance. I also feel they owe me one third of my cost because they did not deliver one third. Also, when the driver came to deliver the partial load, he did not tell me until the very last minute that I still owed him $429.00. This was at 2:45 in the afternoon and the banks would soon closed. Luckily for me there was someone here to loan me $400.00 in cash. I have used Bekins in two other long distance moves and all went very well. This time, every box they delivered looked like it had been thru a war zone.
