Absolutely awful. They subcontracted us out and that subcontractor subcontracted us out again. The first subcontractor said they get payment and we didn't need anything moving day. On moving day, we got the surprise that we owed THEM money THAT DAY. A business was paying for our move, so this was a complete shock. They also put 5 totes that were extremely heavy back into a closet that had specifically been cleaned out. That we were then responsible for moving ourselves. They also went through my filing cabinet and took something out of it and left it on the floor. Inexcusable. Never again would I trust Bekins if this is what I can expect.

I used Bekins to move me from New York to Georgia. The packers were great, pickup was on time, delivery was made in approx. 2 weeks from pick up date. After delivery was made and I started unpacking, I noted I was missing a container. I reported same within the 30 day period, however that did not matter. The final resolution was: I was responsible and accountable at time of delivery to know if anything was missing. I paid for extra insurance. The move consisted of 3 full rooms of furniture, clothing, bedding, china, personal items and kitchen appliances. I lost many value items. If you use this company, please make sure you count your items prior and after delivery before drivers leave your delivery point. Personally, I will never use or recommend this company to anyone. Do your research.

They did very well with the packing part but were very careless with the unpacking. They destroyed one dining room chair and two custom built kitchen chairs. They also broke an antique rocking horse and one of my husband's tools. There were various scratches and dents on some of our furniture. If you pick this company you need to purchase the best insurance possible that covers replacement costs. We ended up with a $57.00 settlement which didn't cover any of the cost of the items.

Bekins Van Lines are thieves!!! My family hired them to move them from Florida to Colorado. My parents paid for the company to pack everything into boxes and for everything to be UNPACKED when it was delivered in Colorado. When the van showed up in Colorado, not a single person showed up to start unloaded the van until 4 hours later. At which time, only 2 people showed up to unload a whole house worth of furniture. Not a single box was unpacked. When my dad reached out to the company to inquire about a refund for services that he paid for in advance that he did not receive, the company has refused to even acknowledge his multiple months worth of repeated attempts. ABSOLUTE CROOKS!!! Complaints are being filed with the BBB.

I wouldn’t t even give them a one. The sale team reel you in. Do not believe them. Such a bad experience, I moved from the UK to USA and had nothing happened. I used this company to move from Chicago to NC and nothing but tons of broken damaged items. No care at new house damaged walls. Send a third party who don’t care to unpack and then the insurance tries to dispute even though you take out the highest premium. Do not trust them at all. The worst service ever!!! We even found they never put out beds together properly and laid them together so I had to screw it all myself.

Used Bekins to move from CA to MD. The experience was a nightmare. Besides misinformation about storing and arrival they damaged at least 1/2 of my furniture some of which had major damage like broken legs, digs, & scratches. See a few example pictures attached. We did reach an agreement where they repaired some of the furniture. Others they paid me what they felt was value. Other things were lost, I'm still realizing items I'm missing. As I said they did somewhat compensate me but I had to fight and threaten to get that compensation. They destroyed my Grandfather's Clock handed down from my parents. One thing I learned Bekins is really a broker so they hire other smaller movers to move you, luck of the draw.

I recently had Bekins moving company out of Carlisle Pennsylvania, move my entire household on January 3rd and 4th 2024. During the move they dropped and ruined a 60 inch flatscreen TV. After nearly three weeks of back-and-forth text messaging and phone calls they finally offered me a settlement of $.60 per pound of the damaged item. Basically they offered me $50 for a $1500 television. I was never offered the opportunity to purchase additional insurance through the moving company and even purchased a special moving box from the company to protect the television which was damaged. It would be my advice that you avoid this company and save yourself the trouble that I’ve been going through.

Spent over $6000 with Bekins for a move from New York to South Carolina. My items were put first put in storage in a facility in New York, I was not ready to have my items immediately shipped, so Bekins placed it in storage until I was ready for them to transport my items. It took about 3 weeks to close on my property in South Carolina, so when I was ready I told Bekins to ship my items.

When my items arrived, it appeared that all the boxes and storage bins I packed were accounted for, but upon unpacking I discovered that many items were missing. All told about $1300 of items were gone, apparently someone had gone through my belongings, I don’t know if this happened while it was in storage or what, all I knew is I had items missing. I informed Bekins, they claimed they would look into it, but long story short I got no satisfaction from Bekins. Use this company at your own risk!

This company treated my husband and I (and our belongings) with a complete lack of respect. Their communication throughout the entire process was extremely poor and they failed to meet even basic standards of communication and execution of what is supposed to be the core of their business. The entire moving process was an absolute fiasco. It seems nobody at this company has any idea what they are doing. Upon receipt of our shipment, items were significantly damaged and looked like they had been thrown around in the truck.

Despite misleading customer service claims on their website, nobody from Texas Moving Company or Bekins took any accountability for this. Emails and letters received no response. They spew complete garbage about how they care about their customers and how they go out of their way to make sure customers' needs are met, but proceed to treat you like complete crap. Misleading, disingenuous and flat-out lies. They don't care about their customers or their belongings. Doing business with this company is a huge risk that you will likely regret.

Bekins Saved Our Move!!! I had used Bekins once before for a cross-country move and was pleased. This past August my girlfriend and I were moving from DC to CA and asked them to come out and give me an estimate for moving the contents of our house. Their sales manager, Russell ** – who was professional, thoughtful, and courteous – came out and gave me an estimate and detailed potential savings based on possible move dates. I foolishly chose to go with American Van Lines to save a couple of thousand dollars. What’s that about penny wise/60 cents a pound foolish? Here’s the pattern of American Van Lines as revealed/confirmed by my experience and many, many others on Yelp ** and the Florida Better Business Bureau **. I urge you to read them. Here's what to watch out for with American Van Lines:

-- Excellent sales chatter before you sign the contract and they're very happy to take your 50 percent down payment (in our case about $4,500).

-- Once you sign the contract, you're assigned a "personal moving coordinator" as your contact who then never responds to your calls or emails.

-- They give you an initial three-day window but won't take into account your needs for confirming a specific day. For example, in Washington, DC, you can only get the required city-issued no parking signs for two days, and you have to put them up three days in advance. I kept telling our "personal moving coordinator" this, but she just ignored me.

-- Prepare to spend hours and hours on the phone with people who keep making promises they can't/won't keep.

-- And then, they never show up and try to keep your down payment!

After three tries of having American Van Lines fail pick up our stuff over a series of days and each time having it postponed by them, and facing a looming closing date on our house, we informed American Van Lines that they were in breach of our contract and we had to find a mover that would actually show up to move our stuff (they then tried to keep our money, which is their pattern, which we finally got back by lodging a dispute with our credit card company). With American Van Lines having failed to pick up our stuff on a Friday and Saturday, I called Russell, told him my tale of woe, and asked if Bekins could move us ASAP. That Saturday he arranged for our stuff to be moved on Wednesday (the earliest possible date since, as noted, DC requires you to post no-parking signs three days in advance) at basically his original estimate despite the late notice. And he was nice enough to not say, “I told you so.”

My experience with Bekins’ office staff was the exact opposite of dealing with American Van Lines. Everyone was professional, courteous, easily contacted, and genuinely concerned that the move went as smoothly as possible -- which it did at both ends. Bekins saved our move, acting swiftly and efficiently to resolve what was quickly becoming a crisis because of American Van Lines (the new owners of our house were moving in later that week). I cannot recommend Bekins more highly or thank them enough.

We moved across country, which is a stressful event in itself. The movers arrived three hours late to start with. They stayed until 10:00 pm and returned the next day. Thankfully my husband was driving so he was still there. The moving van arrived at a later time than expected but it wasn't an issue since we were waiting to move into our home. We had them move our things into a storage unit. We were present at that time. **Be sure you take photos of all of your furniture before you begin packing!! We noticed some damage to our freezer door and mentioned it to the driver. After the movers unloaded into the storage units they left. We then sat down with the driver who made a notation of the damaged freezer door. We had noticed (as per specific request) that none of the mattresses had mattress covers on them. When we had the items moved to our new home, we were present at the storage unit as well.

As the movers (different than before) loaded our items, they would draw attention to damages or poorly wrapped items, so we would know it wasn't from their movers. Once things were unloaded into our home, we noticed we were missing a mattress and box springs as well as some other damages. We contacted Bekins Claim adjuster and were asked to write out our concerns. We did this and sent it in to them. We received a letter of denial. When we contacted them again, she told us that they send out that letter to everyone at the beginning! Really?? Automatically? They offered us $96 for the damaged freezer door. Nothing for the missing mattress and box springs or any of the other damaged items!!

Their response was that we had agreed in advance in signing the paperwork when we left our home- only we had received no paper work at that time. We only got a list of the items loaded at our home, at the end of the arrival to the storage unit. And the mattress/box springs were listed! Then they said they couldn't be responsible for the items when it left the storage unit. We wrote them again to say how offended and disappointed we were and that we would like to work together to come to a fair agreement but to no avail. Just so unprofessional. They don't care about your things- Trust this and other reviewers, use a different company in moving the things you care about.

As you can see, others have had the same issues with Bekins. We were planned to have our driver and movers come on July 25th, 2022. The driver cancelled that morning. Customer service in corporate took 3 hours to contact me as they were looking for people to come and pack our things as scheduled, then look for another driver. After 3 hours, we were told packers were coming. They showed up and quickly packed our things, and didn’t finish until 7pm. We were on a flight to Washington where we were moving to the next morning.

After getting to our destination, we were told a driver and movers were coming on August 9th. That was the absolute last day before Bekins would have to pay the late delivery fee of $100 per day. When the driver showed up, that’s when he told us there was not enough room for all our items on his truck and that 2K pounds were left behind. When I called corporate in Indiana, they had no idea. So now we’re waiting for ANOTHER delivery and we had to wait for Bekins to schedule another driver. All of our TVs were part of what was left behind.

Weeks later, we were told that our items were coming on August 19th. When I asked about compensation for the late delivery, they said that “load backs” (their terminology) were not part of the company’s compensation plan. So in a nut shell, we had zero, nothing to do with why the load was late, but Bekins were not obligated nor wanted to compensate us for the late delivery of 10 days. Incredibly insulting. Corporate just pass the buck to others and no one will claim responsibility. To add insult to injury, we suggested Bekins to a neighbor and they used them as well. Don’t use them. Even if the salesperson seems knowledgeable and committed, if anything goes wrong, you’re on your own.

Please do not use this company for your move. They are not professional and when they damage and lose your goods they won’t take responsibility. We did an interstate move in June 2022. The movers were unprofessional and did not wrap furniture well. They were careless with it, which resulted in many damaged items. They also took items that were designated “Not to move” and ruined many medications, personal items etc. We also had several lost items. Upon delivery, they did not reassemble furniture and we still have parts and screws left that we are unsure where they go. The movers were sloppy, and the claim department is deceitful and will do anything not to have to pay fairly. RUN do not walk from this company! I went without a bed or furniture for weeks. The move with Bekins was traumatic. I chose Bekins to move me from one state to another. I didn't realize they'd be two quotes: one by a salesman and the second on moving day. Once my belongings reached their destination, I was pressed into service by the Bekins driver to help him check-in each box using the inventory labels Bekins people affixed to each box, but many were missing. I made many calls to the Bekins office to help me convince the Bekins driver to cooperate. Things such as sofa legs are missing and a valuable dining table was scratched. Bekins said they'd address these matters.

Anyway, I had use another moving company and they came in, packed everything, and then delivered my belongings my address. I call my experience with Bekins learning-by-burning. Their office people are great. The driver on my route was disrespectful and reprimanded (!). I silenced him by reminding him that I paid for his services and I wouldn't sign-off on his paperwork if he didn't hold his tongue; that did the trick. Make your own decision about hiring Bekins.

Not only that but they didn’t even box or bag my expensive mattresses. I had custom pieces broken and antiques broken. I knew they would not be able to replace these items so I kindly asked for repairs not replacements. I go nothing but them telling me over and over that they were previously damaged or that they didn’t pack them.

Beware of a good sales rep - he won me over against competitive bids and I deeply regret going with Bekins. Every step post sales rep was awful:

    - Sales rep assured me that his quotes were always low so there would be no surprises; his bid was actually $3k too low (nasty surprise). The Company told me that this was acceptable per their standards and wouldn't release my goods until I paid.

    - Driver did not show up on the date of loading and our goods remained on a truck for three months after they put us to the back of the queue. Very little correspondence from the company unless I reached out and pushed them to give me an expected timeline. My family of five had no idea when our truck would arrive. For three months we lived in an empty house (3 kids, ages 8, 8 and 6). No sympathy or sense of urgency from Bekins.

    - When the truck arrived, we learned that the back hatch was broken and did not close properly so our goods were exposed to rain as they drove from Washington state to Georgia.

    - Considerable damage to our goods when we unpacked them. In the claims process, Bekins references all the fine print in their inventory sheets/contract and the company has been unwilling to do what is right.

    - If you do go with Bekins despite my experience, make sure you check through every single inventory item at delivery. We had items that were missing and the company is unwilling to reimburse for those because we did not call these out at the time of delivery. It will take several additional hours to inventory everything and the movers will need to stay there until you are done, but if you do not do this critical step the company will not take responsibility for losing items.

In my opinion, if you do not have a good lawyer willing to handhold the bid/moving/claims process from start to finish, do not do business with this company!

They kept goods in storage during a move for 3 months. When I was ready to receive my furniture they could not find my furniture for 5 days. It was Misplaced... That should tell you a lot about their operation. I made the mistake of using them for another move 6 months later. And a disaster. They damaged 4 items and after they loaded up the truck they asked for a signature on 7 pages each with about 50 entrees on each sheet.. This furniture was all new and they not only damaged the furniture but the supervisor of the move had a bad back and could not lift so they dragged one piece on the floor and scratched a brand new tile floor and the piece of furniture that they dragged was damaged..

I got disgusted on the lack of attention in resolving the damages so I had 3 pieces repaired on my own. They had a quote on the damage of the 4th piece. Of course the check that they send did not include the sales tax and freight that we had to pay to have the piece fixed .. Quite honestly it was not a big number but NOTHING went right. For a major company to operate this way it is a disgrace. Bekins of South Florida uses the Bekins name but the the licensor Bekins will have nothing to do with a local move. THe reviews on the Bekins site are selected positive reviews. As you will see you are on a Bekins site that they control, not a objective site like ConsumerAffairs.

The actual move was terrible. We are not sure what occurred to our home furnishings once placed in the moving custody of Bekins. How many times our property was loaded and reloaded on their trucks and storage facilities. It arrived 4 days late. Most of the packing boxes appeared as if someone had purposely jumped up and down on them, especially the larger boxes. Many items were found broken and beyond repair. If that was not enough. The teak sideboard to our dining room furniture set had both of its doors thrown off and numerous deep scratches that could not be covered up with Old English scratch remover. In addition the doors did never arrived with the rest of our property. The only conclusion we could envision was that some Bekins’ employee had driven a forklift in to it. Also a two tiered desk unit arrived with broken sections and drawers falling out. This unit was also beyond repair.

Obviously no one should entrust their property to this mover. In attempts to be reimbursed for these malicious and careless damages we were told the mover was totally protected by the signed Bill of Lading and terms therein. I would agree, but our sustained damages were not the usual dents and scratches that occur in loading, unloading and transport of household property. Our damaged property was carelessly, maliciously and recklessly handled by Bekins. The Bill of Lading does not give the carrier absolute freedom to destroy your property and be totally sheltered from the responsibility for their malicious and reckless damages. We are now seeking legal action in this matter.

He falsified the inventory sheets by signing them and writing “CRTS” ( customer refused to sign). He did not put a date on the inventory manifest. Our family has relocated across states 2 times prior, using United. For our third move, we decided to try Bekins, and it was a bad mistake. Our goods were on the truck for 12 days, due to a long delay in delivery. Many items were simply tossed in large boxes and broke. My new grand piano was warped by the humidity. Our grand-father clock is missing a part and no longer keeps time. Though Bekins promises up to $100,000 insurance, the claim process is close to impossible, with Bekins' representative denying liability or offering absurd amounts for compensation.

For a laptop with an internally cracked screen, we were told that the policy only covers external damage (the repair bill exceeds $1,000). Liability for damage to my new Yamaha grand, which was kept on the truck in mid-winter without temperature control, was flat out denied, though the repair clearly states that the piano bed was warped. Liability for the grand-father clock was also denied, since I signed off that it was working when the company rep put it back together. I later discovered that the bottom of the pendulum was BENT to hold the pendulum in place in the absence of the lost screw. We were told to keep all broken items and create a list for each. That became impossible, since almost every box included something broken (from screws missing for tables to the cap missing on a lawn mower tank.)

Bekins did send a repair man to evaluate the damage, but they never agreed to send him back to do the actual repairs (e.g.: on a damaged $3,500 painting frame or a chest of drawers with a broken leg). I could go on and on, but what I have written is enough. I received 3 quotes from 3 moving companies, and Bekins were in the high middle. What sold me was their professional sales person. It turned out that our past moves with United were far, far better. We never had to file a claim before, and this time, though we are filing a claim, we will never recoup our loses.

DO NOT hire this company to help you move! We used Bekins to move from Long Beach, CA to Michigan. At first things seemed to go ok despite the packers refusing to wear masks (this was in the height of Covid last September). Little did I know, only some of our items were being loaded on to the moving truck. When the truck arrived in Michigan there were several items missing. When I say several, I mean over $3,000 worth of men's clothing and a large container of loose change I would conservatively estimate to be $300. I would've never guessed someone would steal pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters but sure enough... it disappeared.

I immediately reached out to Bekins to express my frustration and unhappiness and they agreed to do a "trace". Of course they did not find anything because my belongings never made it onto the moving truck! Now we have filed a claim and they have denied it because it was 1 day late. Someone working for Bekins stole my belongings and now Bekins will not do anything about it. Like I said, DO NOT use this company... their employees can't be trusted and neither can anyone in management.

Bekins is a Great company and Drivers were incredible and the customer service manager Scott ** went above and beyond. If Christian ** is your salesperson RUN. He will mislead you and tell you what you want to hear. Everything I was told over and over again he very clearly repeated and we totally understood each other. The day the Delivery drivers picked up my stuff they were very professional and took great care of my daughters belongings. 2 Hours after they leave I get a call that changed everything. My delivery Date was going to be at least 7 days later than Christan Promised and needless to say I was PISSED and would have cancelled but it was too late at that point.

This is when Christian kept saying we must have had miscommunications so that he could cover his butt. I stopped speaking with him at that point and started dealing with Scott ** from Customer Service and as upset as I was with Bekins he was very professional and understood my anger but it was out of his hands as well so I made the best of it and he stayed in touch with me pretty much daily. When the Drivers delivered my daughters Belongings again they were very professional and careful with everything and placed the Furniture and Boxes where they were supposed to go. So if you ever need a Great Moving Company I would highly recommend Bekins of South Florida only if Christian ** is not your Salesperson. HE CAN'T BE TRUSTED and should not be employed to work for Bekins unless he is retrained.

The Bekins professionals were very efficient in handling my move from New York to Florida. The care in which they took in packaging my belongings was excellent and the shipment of my belongings arrived in Florida as scheduled.

Bekins Van Lines moved us from Vancouver, WA to Arizona in 2014. As far as I know, we didn't lose anything. It just took months to find stuff in all those moving boxes. Overall a great moving company.
