The Associated Bank branch in Lake Geneva is staffed by inept personnel. Now for the second time in 2 years, the Branch Manager has failed to return a call following my in-person visit to see if AB could match Capital One's IRA rates. Once again, the Branch Manager has apparently forgot my request and now I'm up against a time window where I have to make a decision of where to move the monies. The first time this happened, I called the home office in Green Bay. Then all of a sudden, I get a call from the Manager stating she forgot my inquiry. Apparently, History does repeat itself! Capital one offers CD's with a 12 month deposit at 2.3% and there is no minimum!

In December 2018, a teller mistakenly credited my entire January payment to my escrow account. I was not entirely surprised as they have often seemed confused in the past as to where to apply my payment if it is during the grace period of the month before. I have been through hours of phone time, letter writing, and branch visits explaining the situation and following up to make sure this didn't show as a late payment.
Even with all that, my tax statements were wrong and I had to wait for a correction. I came up with the solution of closing the escrow account to avoid the possibility of this mistake in the future. I asked to have the fee waived as a gesture of goodwill for all I had been through and was denied. I am seeking another lender as I no longer trust Associated Bank, nor do I believe they value my business.

I have a loan for $200K with $500K of real estate for security. On many occasions, I had the opportunity to sale a individual parcel. Associated Bank will not allow this this to occur until my loan is in "good standing". Words are everything- forget about attempting to deal with a real- experienced Banker- those days are long gone. I have past due real estate taxes, I just can't make payment BUT a sale would reduce my principal and pay ALL of MY taxes. AND yes, let's not forget about the 5% penalty for late mortgage payments. I will find another mortgage and break away from Associated. I will continue to spread the truth regarding this bank. Associated will not release anything- they love my monthly payment and I do feel they want me to fail.

My husband has had 2 accounts through Bank Mutual; one personal, one small business. We were happy with the bank until it became Associated. We began getting charged $18/month for the business account. The personal account started getting overdrafted because online it told us we have money available. We'd go spend whatever amount and then all of a sudden something else will appear that should've for through days ago and he'd be overdrafted!! We closed the personal account and just kept the business one after being overdrafted on multiple occasions.
Now this is the 4th week in a row that has been overdrafted. This has gotten out of control. He refused the overdraft protection because he would prefer to be declined rather than charged. But they apparently omit a charge(s) on the account until there isn't enough funds to cover it. We are paying hundreds of dollars a month in overdraft fees when the transactions should have been denied. Through my research this has been an ongoing issue with this bank. We are looking into a class action lawsuit. I'm sure there are MANY others experiencing this.

We have had a mortgage with Associated for 1 year. Our taxes went down substantially due to a lower purchase price than assessed value. We were refunded quite a bit for the over collected excess escrow, then 2 months later our escrow was increased by $99/m. Not a big deal but it should not go up if rate is fixed, tax and insurance goes down/stays same. I asked them to recalculate the escrow and paid the regular monthly amount. We got several notices saying no payment had been received. Three times I went in to the branch, even wrote out a separate check for the $99 escrow they said I owed. Come to find out recently our credit was dinged because they reported us 30 days past due because of this. But no late fee, thanks Associated.

We banked through them 15 years. Had a mortgage with them and home equity line. Out of the blue they sent us a letter saying they were closing our checking account! We called and said they didn’t need to give a reason and were very rude any time we called with questions. Never again will I deal with a company like this and they now have lost good customers who never had overdrafts and bills paid on time!

In November 2016 I began communications with a loan officer to renew a commercial loan maturing on February 10, 2017. New loan documents were not provided to me until March 12, 2017, over a month after maturity of the loan, and included a prepayment penalty of 5%. Too late to find other financing. Despite requesting terms earlier, they were not provided. The Customer Care department to file a complaint is useless. Trying to get an email address or mailing address for the CEO is impossible. My experience with Associated Bank is that I was treated unethically. My father had two loans that resulted in the same during the same timeframe. Get a loan anywhere else!

My checking account should have been closed in October but never was. I just found out that my old job paid me a substantial amount of money and I cannot get all of it back. Because they did not follow through with their job I have incurred almost $150 in overdraft fees in which they will only refund half of. This is not the first time they have taken my money from me either!! Do not use them unless you want your money to disappear.

Associated Bank become my mortgage company after purchasing our loan. This bank has subpar online and app tools that make normal everyday banking easier and safer. Keep all of your records and copies of your payments, they are constantly losing or miss crediting payments in an attempt to charge late fees.

I was shocked and concerned to see the number of reviewers complaining about Associated Bank’s practice of charging numerous questionable fees. I refinanced my home with them a few years back and had no problems until this past September, when for some mysterious reason they failed to receive either my monthly mortgage payment or a payment I made to cover an escrow shortage, which I mailed to them in two separate envelopes and paid out of two separate bank accounts (and these two checks somehow were the only two checks I mailed in for bill payments that didn’t get to the intended target.)
The customer service rep I spoke to told me he would waive the late fee for my mortgage payment and that I could make payments for the two bills via the phone and recommended that I stop payment on both checks, but then assigned check numbers to the phone payments that were identical to the check numbers on which I was stopping payment. When I expressed concern about that, he assured me it was not a problem, that the “phone payment check number” would be treated differently from the paper check number.
Thankfully, I stopped payment on only one of the checks because, as it turned out, it WAS a problem, and my bank refused to honor the phone payment because the number on the check was the same as the number assigned to the phone payment. As a result, another late fee was assessed by Associated Bank, which I was told they would also waive but which keeps showing up on my monthly statement. Reading the other reviews, I can’t help but wonder if the bank is purposely playing games with my account in order to charge fees. I am now making it a point to make my mortgage payment in person at the bank and get a receipt because I have no confidence that it will be posted properly if I pay it either by mail or online. Did anyone pursue a class action against this bank recently? It’s worth looking into.

Been dissatisfied with them since the Bank Mutual Merger this summer. $1 monthly account service fee is now $11/mo. They can't properly execute an electronic check costing me additional fees 2 out of the 2 times used. I execute a half a dozen withdrawals and deposit transactions a month so no real services performed. Having a physical location within three miles? Not useful as I work during all their limited banking hours. I use a proper investment broker so no need for that service. Do not have any debt either so no need for their loan department. I've switched to online Ally Bank which meets the requirements for a 21st century bank account user, charges zero fees for my simple transactions, requires zero minimum balance, AND pays me a small interest rate each month. Perfect fit for my needs and even better than Bank Mutual had been!

Well, this just never seems to end with this bank. I was the first customer with this bank when they came to our town in Elgin, IL & after many years they began to take advantage of me starting with my savings acct. & charging fees so I closed it. Then it was my credit card with them & their high APR so I closed it. Now they're screwing around with 1 of my 2 checking accounts & claiming that I suddenly after 2006 that I now have to pay a fee if I don't keep a $2,500 min. bal. Seriously? I've had these accts. for years & personal checking acct. as acct. #** & have never been told I need to keep a min. bal. after all these years & now suddenly have to pay a fee.
I've chatted online with them twice & got nowhere & in fact the gal just cut me off. I even went into the local bank here in our town & got nowhere there either. I'm just wondering what the heck happened to this bank? It also appears from posting on here & FB I see that I'm not the only unsatisfied customer? I did call their customer service again today & got nowhere once again & they couldn't explain why my acct. suddenly out of the blue after over 12 years suddenly now has a min. bal. fee required on my acct.???

So I have been an Associated Bank customer since 2017. I have had this ongoing issue with the bank authorizing transactions when the funds aren’t currently available. I have recently moved out of the Wisconsin area and had just kept this account until I got a new bank set up. So my paychecks would clear and I'd withdraw the money and give it to my boyfriend for bills. I log into my account I have not used for almost 2 weeks and see I’m negative almost 200... How? I have not used this account.
Well I had a few things from online process I had not updated with my new account number and they processed WITH A ZERO BALANCE!!! How is this an ok business practice??? I can understand one transaction because I did have a few bucks remaining but 5 transactions! That should not have happened. Needless to say I will be calling after work! And issuing a huge complaint and hopefully they will remove the fees at least. It is my fault for not updating my account info, but the transactions should not have been approved regardless.

It doesn't make any sense. They also increased the monthly amount without sending us a letter. If there are any lawyers out there who would like to start a class action lawsuit, please do! In January, 2018, I opened a checking account with Associated Bank. I chose Associate because there was a branch within two blocks from my home, which provided easy access to my account. I was also excited about being able to choose a MasterCard debit product that allowed me to support a local institution. Today, May 22, 2018, I received a certified letter from Associated Bank, notifying me that according to the terms of the deposit agreement, any Associated Bank account could be closed, at any time, without providing reason. Because of this stipulation within the deposit agreement, my account is going to be closed.
I contacted customer “care”, and was told that there was no documented reason for the account closure, the account was just being closed, basically because Associated Bank could close the account, if they choose to. I argued that I have maintained direct deposit. I have not overdrawn my account. I have been responsible with this account. The response from customer care was basically “oh well.”
When talking with the customer care agent, I asked what reasons were generally used for Associated Bank taking these actions. I was told that sometimes, it’s due to breach of security, or the potential for fraud activity, or because an excessive amount of cash was being deposited. However, the customer care representative stated that just by looking at my account, he could see that the usual reasons for closure were not present, and so this baffled him, as well. This event has been extremely disappointing, and quite honestly, traumatizing. I’m beginning to wonder if banks are to be trusted. Upon reading the other reviews of Associated Bank, on this particular website, Perhaps, it’s time for people to start keeping cash in their mattresses again.

When their online payment system changed recently, when a user goes to pay the bills online they select the payee, payment amount and then it gives them the option to send the money. After you hit the send button it takes you to the next page, ideally at this page it should confirm but you get a blank page. If you are not aware that it is asking for a confirmation and you close the browser your payment is not sent.
I got 25 dollars click charge from Credit card company and interest because payment did not go through because I did not realize that the stupid system is displaying anything, it was hidden because it takes you at the bottom of the page and the confirmation verbiage is at the top that does not display. Called customer service on 5/20/18 at 8 PM and talked to Katelyn, her response was, "We can't do anything. You should have verified." If your system works properly and displays properly this would not happen and it is still happening after month of your IT upgrade, you have an incompetent IT team that does not know how to program so get some good help.

I have used Associated since I was 15 years old, the past 7 years. I have opened a checking, savings, and two credit accounts through them. I have lived overseas for the past 3 years and trying to deal with online services is absolute hell. I have continuously had issues with direct debit payments and have time and time again been charged late fees because my direct debit fails to work. When I was recently back in America, I got everything sorted by going into a teller and resolving the issues with Associated and their credit company. I was told there will be absolutely no more issues with paying my credit cards off through my bank account. Less then a week after leaving the USA, I received notification that two cards had been cancelled because no payments had been made since November (the month it all started to stop working).
Luckily I got it sorted over the phone after about 3 hours on and off hold. I continue to have direct debit issues and am copping late fees for THEIR mistakes. Very pissed off and currently having to pay the lump sum of my credit card off so I can cancel all of my accounts with Associated. My family consists of 6 people and we have all gone through their services only to cancel within a few hours as it is terrible. Absolutely horrible services and uneducated workers don't help their situation. This is only ONE of my issues I have had very recently. I won't begin to tell you all the rest... disappointed for such a large and professional chain. Would NOT recommend! Save yourself the trouble.

Several years ago I took out a home equity line of credit when I purchased my home. At the time I was told that my loan would be a traditional loan and definitely not an interest only loan which I was very clear I did not want. I noticed over time that nothing seemed to be coming off of my principal, and I went to the bank and called to have this explained to me, and each time I was told it would take longer for me to see that happen, after paying off almost the full amount of the loan I realized that this was in fact an interest only loan and that I had been lied to.
I went to the bank and asked for an explanation and if they would ever advise their own mother to take out a loan which would eventually cost me over $120,000 for a $40,000 loan. This bank is trying to ruin my credit because I will not pay this. You should run from this bank and never take a loan from them. I had an account with him for the longest time and was loyal customer, and in the end I was duped.

Which the insurance company gave us $200 more for our claim. No one has ever contacted us. We have had to contact them each week, just to find out there is yet another a hang up with the check.
Each time we contact them, another issue arises. I don't think they quite understand what they're doing. When I was a branch manager of a large credit union in WA, we never had issues like this. We took care of the member right away. Apparently Associated doesn't care about the homes they mortgage, in turn we were not able to get our gutters fixed before the snow fell. No resolution here. I knew we should have stuck with a credit union. They care about their members and want to make sure the homes they mortgage are in safe condition. We will be refinancing our home, just to get away from the bank. Don't buy into the idea that a medium size bank will take care of you. Low price closing costs are not worth it!!!

I have had nothing but headaches with Associated Bank. They have been "pending" my transactions for 5 to 6 business days. Shouldn't take that long, then when they do send it thru they slap on the $11 service fee a month for just having the account and if you don't have the $ in there they overdraft you. I live directly across the street from the bank and it takes a week to get a notice in the mail to let you know you are overdrawn, by then they add more charges until you pay it. The order of my check card is different all the time. I can use my check card in the morning and they sometimes send it thru without pending then right after they will send thru a check card purchase at same place from 2 weeks before.
The last few months I will check my account balance at night it will say I have x amount of $ in the available balance. Then I will check it in the morning and I'm negative that same amount and nothing else has gone through. There is more stuff going on but this is the basic I'm starting with. As an attorney, I am considering a class action lawsuit against Associated Bank. In 2013 Associated Bank settled a class action lawsuit by agreeing to change its debit card charging practices. I read the amended settlement agreement and settlement agreement signed by Associated Bank. The debit card practices used with my accounts in 2015-16 were the same practices Associated Bank agreed to change in 2013. I learned after making several withdraws from "no-fee" ATM's that Associated was actually charging me $4.00 to use a machine that's not theirs. Most banks that respect their customers reimburse them for ATM fees. But with Associated, if you want to withdraw from an ATM with a $4 fee, they will still charge you on top of that, making it an $8 fee just to withdraw money from your own account. What's worse, I just went in to have a cashier's check made out so I could make a down payment on a car. "That will be 8 dollars please." $8 to write a check!!! Now, customers will get 0 notification of issues until after they arise. 4 years ago I set up an electronic payment of 2.5 times the minimum amount requested to pay for a loan. The payments were scheduled 1 week early each month until Associated Bank cancelled the payments (money was in the account to cover it all) and did not attempt to notify me. Months went by and the first I learned of it was when an attorney sent a letter.

I have been a loyal Associated Bank customer for over 20 years now and the deceitful practices they have incorporated are unbelievable. Even after they paid out 13 mil in the 2013 class action lawsuit regarding overdrafts, they have now just put a new twist on deceitful ways to collect money from customers. One of them is now charging monthly fees unless you keep a continual minimum checking balance. But on top of it, they don't physically put the service fee charge through until the 8th. However, they make it retroactive back to the 6th of the month so they can bounce your account and create overdrafts if anything went through between the 6th and the 8th.
It takes them forever to 'un-pend' transactions especially deposits yet they don't hesitate to 'un-pend' debits as quickly as possible. How convenient huh? Anything to cause overdrafts to make money. I guess they have to recoup their losses somehow on their lost lawsuits for the $13 mil OD class action suit and the HUD $200 mil mortgage loan lawsuit. (The largest ever!) I just got a notice stating I would have to start paying an 11 dollars a month fee on Nov. 1st, unless I had monthly direct deposits of $500 dollars or more or kept a balance of $500.00 at all times. I am self-employed and so none of my deposits fit that criteria nor do I always have $500 in my account throughout the entire month. When I called to explain my situation the woman said "Oh sorry, I guess our checking options just don't fit you anymore". No suggestions on things I could do or willingness to brainstorm just "Oh I’m sorry". If this is how they have taken to treating long term customers I'm glad I'm closing my account with them and going to a credit union down the road.

I have been a loyal customer with Associated Bank for 20 yrs. Now they are adding unreasonable fees to my account. When I spoke to the Branch Mgr. they couldn't do everything for free & run a business. That's bologna. They got a lot of bail out money and now they're just as greedy as all the other big banks. I'm switching to a friendly local bank. Screw you Associated Bank.

We used Associated Bank to refinance our home and what we got was not a traditional mortgage but more like a consumer loan which has been fine up till we try to get a buy out amount for selling the property. In 2011 we had a buyer so there were appraisals done but the sale fell through. Currently we have a new buyer and are set to close in 30 days. When the "new system" came online in August there were late fees listed for almost $900. We called and they could not tell us what they were for, we have no late fees, penalties and our account is in good standing. Same fees showed up in September and now they are saying there are charges for the appraisals done in 2011.
How can they bill us for something we assumed was covered 4 years ago because we never got an invoice or a bill and it never showed up on our account at the time of service? Of course, they expect these fees to be paid at the time of closing the sale of this house. I feel like they should have to wait 4 years to get paid. Bad form, Associated Bank. Bad form.

Tired of all the fees, $11 a month for just having an account. Majority of ATMs don't fall under fee free. $35 overdraft fee for every transaction even if over by just pennies. Highest interest rates I've seen of all banks; can go to a Credit Union and get 1-2 percent lower. Basically if you don't want your money taken from you monthly, go somewhere else.

Ok, so I've used Associated Bank ever since they bought First Federal here in Wisconsin (years and years). Admittedly, I have in the past had some problems with cash flowing in and out in the correct way. However, for the past 2 years, I've gotten on track and haven't had a single overdraft. I've been a client even when they went through the lawsuit that they settled over the order in which things were debited from a personal checking account. You'd think that they would've amended their systems then, but recently, I had 3 checks come into the bank on the same day - not in any particular order or date as they were written days/weeks apart and the depositor just decided to put them through on the same day.
Well, instead of taking the available balance to cover 2 of the 3 checks, which there was, they decided to cover the middle amount check first, then they try to run the highest (which didn't have enough to cover it), then the lowest amount… So then they're going to charge me 2 NSF! What a crock. I don't know if it's just some sort of system in the computers that determines which check/amount to run out first, or however they do it, but I'm totally calling them to dispute the order and try to get one of the NSF reversed. Yes, the money should've been there to cover all 3, but it was the timing of the depositor that left it a bit under. This is not the first time they've been taken to task for this kind of behavior, and apparently, it's probably not going to be the last. Am seriously considering changing banks, if not for the convenience of the branches and the ability to deposit money via their branch atm's, which works well with my work hours.

I manage my 89 year old mother's accounts at Associated Bank. A company somehow obtained her account number for her checking account. They made up a check with the bank's routing number and her account number on it. They electronically submitted the check without any signature and took $195 from her account. I disputed the charge months later when I realized there were 2 checks with the same check number. The bank took my call, sent me a dispute form that I had to sign and return within 10 days. I did this and they accepted the form. I called back 40 days later to ask about the progress. I was told it would take 30-60 days to resolve.
Fourteen days later I call again to ask about the progress on the dispute. Now I am told, after 3 previous contacts with them, that the dispute cannot be filed because it didn't happen within 14 days of the check being processed. They had 3 opportunities to tell me that previously and didn't, plus I never received any correspondence from the bank with this denial. I only received this verbal decision when I initiated my fourth contact with them. There is no coherent dispute policy as I discovered and I was never able to discuss this with the dispute dept. I would only get the customer care people working as go-betweens. "Sorry" was the only response I got... Moving my mother's accounts to another bank. I guarantee I will find a bank with greater security than Associated Bank for check fraud.
The bottom line... considering all the layers of security that we as customers must go through to even access our accounts online, speak to someone in customer care and even file a dispute, there is no security in place to prevent someone from ripping you off if they have your account number. I asked the supervisor for customer care, "what is the security required of someone submitting an electronic check at your bank?" Silence, followed by the "I'm sorry..." corporate apology. I am filing this review to help others realize that this bank has zero security measures in place if someone has your account number. (They may not be the only bank with this problem, you may want to check out your bank on this issue.)

Ever since the Federal Government passed into law certain measures to ensure banks would protect American account holders from possible fraud by hackers, identity theft purveyors, etc., which was about a year or so ago, my Bank Associated Bank and their consumer protection Department have regularly month by month blocked my bank card from accepting random transactions after the 1st of the month when I usually get my Veterans Administration disability check automatically deposited into my account for my monthly well-being and expenses.
When the new laws went into effect, it was understandable that my freedom to pay my bills on time and spend my money for necessary items around the house would be compromised slightly by Associated Bank's Consumer Protection people, at least until I built up a history in my account of my money going to the same bill collectors, and merchants that I commonly deal with from month to month. But their intrusiveness from month to month into my private financial dealings has occurred for well over a year now, despite the fact that I have now built up a history in my account of who I pay for goods and services, where the money goes, and how much.
You would think that after a year of spending my money monthly in the usual manner, that any reliable college educated consumer protection representative could review my account history and see where my money goes without being paranoid that is someone else other than me spending my money. They have gotten into the practice so regularly over simple 21.00 purchases locally, blocking my transactions and my having to call them like a school boy and ask permission to spend my money, that one can only assume that they are treating my money as if it is theirs to collect interest on, and not mine to support myself with.
As a disabled veteran who suffers from PTSD and anxiety, and yet is so intelligent and articulate to be able to handle my own affairs, the constant intrusiveness is damaging to my emotional state every month when it occurs, and often causes complications with my bill collectors, and has often caused my account balances to sometimes go into overdraft as well, where they are more than happy to charge me fees for their incompetence. Their betrayal of my trust in them has now approached a point of fraud, intentional negligence, and even possible grand theft larceny.
Because I get a monthly stipend from the Department Of Treasury that barely helps me to make ends meet, it is not such an easy thing to do to merely switch my business to a credit union locally with a better reputation, as it could cause further hardship on me. I fully intend to do so anyways as soon as my student loan forgiveness is cleared up and I get my refunds. But at this point public oversight of this corruption and fraud needs to be addressed, and the bank needs to pay through the nose for their intentional mishandling of my affairs. Where is a disabled veteran in my state and situation to turn to for assistance? Must I become yet another statistic in a long and record breaking history of being yet another vet who cannot take it any longer and decides to take my own life instead? Where's my guardian angel.

Today I received letters from them stating that the payments are going up by $3,305.55 per month per property! This is for escrow payments (I don't have escrow accounts!) for insurance that Associated Bank elected to "provide". I have insurance already through Farmers Insurance.
Why do they think that they can apply insurance policies against my properties, in violation of the mortgage agreements? Why do they think that $3,305 per month is a reasonable cost for insurance? I received assurances from many workers at the Janesville WI branch that this issue was resolved. When did Associated Bank become such a crappy bank, bordering on criminal activities? Now this is something else on my credit report that I have to deal with to further improve my credit score. And as far as the customer service goes they weren't any help in trying to fix the issues. When it wouldn't let me create an account, I called Associated and was told that the only way I can make a mortgage payment online is if I had an active account with them (such as a checking account) that had enough money in it to pay the mortgage each month. It went on for years with me talking to my Rep and they talking to First Data. Back and forth until it was up to enough money that I would not put up with it anymore. I went to a card reader on my tablet and have not had to worry about any of the fees that I was not supposed to be charged. I and my fiance opened an account because Associated has many branches and great hours due to the in store locations. But, I noticed when we made purchases they would show on the activity log as a pending purchase but the money would still show in the available balance instead of being put aside as pending funds. So, we're thinking our available balance are the funds we actually have to spend but in actuality the available balance also consists of the pending purchases that should've been set aside and not available to spend anymore. So the bank will allow you to think your available balance is what you actually have to spend when in reality the purchases that were already made and waiting for the merchant to collect are showing as okay to spend and available. Then when the merchant goes to collect the money associated will then take that money out of your available balance when the money was supposed to be set aside as pending funds for purchases. So they can then tell you that you did not have enough funds in your account to cover and then potentially charge you overdraft fees if you don't pay attention to your account.

Associated Bank has changed over the years and not to the better. But, they have been tolerable until recently. They have to be one of the worst banks out there with trying to maximize getting late fees. They accomplish this in so many different ways, it's hard to keep up. Recently they've changed the deadline by 2 hours without any notice given. The deadline for mortgage payment used to be 11:59PM of the last day it's due before a late fee is accessed. Now, I unknowingly called at 10:15 PM of the last day it was due and was told that I was late by 15 minutes and had to pay the late fee. What made this worse was that I actually tried paying the mortgage earlier than 10:00 PM via the phone first but failed to get a hold of anyone for over 15 minutes. I then tried paying online on their website and I was still unable to pay it because the site would bring up a blank page and not allow me to. So I tried calling again, by this time it was about 10:20 PM and finally got a hold of an operator that explained to me that I was late and now had to pay the late fee.
So, be very careful with dealing with Associated Bank, they've invested a lot of time and money into maximizing every opportunity out there in getting late fees, so either be very, very, very careful if you are a member or stay far, far away if you are thinking about becoming a member. Whoever is running the show now is doing whatever they can, legally or not, to maximize every opportunity in charging late fees. Something has definitely changed in the last 6 months, because customer service now is untolerable and pathetic.

Where do I begin? I'll stick to one of the issues here. First of all, I work for my money, so when I give you, AB, my paycheck, I'm just there to change in this stupid piece of paper check for actual earnings. I'm forced to be paid with a check instead of cash, and so I'm forced to use a bank. That's some sort of incredibly immoral entrapment right there. But then, you have to use the ATM five times per month or you get some sort of $12 fee from the bank. What? What is this, a game? Now I have to play Chutes and Ladders every week to get my whole check? I never use checkbooks because I just want my money in my hand and checkbooks complicate that more. So I view my balance on my account on the ATM every single time I'm about to make a purchase. So let's say there is $70 and I spend $63 of it plus the $2.50 ATM fee plus the other $2.00 ATM fee, so that's $67.50. Alright. Great.
Then later, without fail, another fee, a $3.00 extra ATM fee for some machine across town here, a $5 monthly bank fee there, and suddenly one of the 7 monthly fees has overdrawn my account. Alright, not sooo bad, but then, they come in and hit you with a $35 fee plus $7 per day because I didn't have enough $3.00 fees for them to take out for the 6th time. Then I don't get paid again for a week so I get to watch my check get gobbled up until next pay day so I can try to pay 6 more $3.00 fees on time in the right order. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A BOUNCE AND LATE FEE FOR A FEE CHARGED DAYS AFTER IT WAS ACCRUED. You're charging me a late fee for a fee! If the funds aren't in my account, then don't let it be taken out! Or just give me the damn money so I can go home and shower from having had to deal with you!
This ruined my summer, set me back in bills. I missed birthdays of important people. I was unable to make it to an event I helped plan last month. I have to eat at the ** food bank, and more. I think these practices are despicable. AB should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. They are shameful dirt bags and they need for the law to shake these deceitful greedy trash bags to their knees, give us all our money back and put these vermin in prison. Then I get a letter in the mail a few days ago saying that I've been awarded money from a lawsuit about their dishonest late fee practices. They have taken hundreds of dollars from me in that way over the years. So I open the check and it's for $8.00. Just cash my check, give me my money, take a reasonable fee and get the ** away from me with your Chutes and Ladders Jiminy Cricket idiot **.

This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with. They’re liars. Endless paperwork and fees for every service. Associated Bank is nothing but slimy used car salesmen and ambulance chasers only out to screw you. Examples: I went to a local branch to pay mortgage; they could not provide a receipt. I wanted to obtain loan pay-off balance; I was told there was a fee to do this. I pursued loan modification. I sent paperwork in July but no response until October; then they requested more paperwork, and then they blamed me for holding up the process. They charged over $500 in fees without my consent or knowledge for pursuing loan modification. And then I was told that when you submit the paperwork, you agree to their terms.
Customer service: If you call to request information, you are told that papers will be sent to you. No one ever helps you as a person. When you send paperwork back, no one reviews it. They accepted $552,000,000 in bail out money - where is it? When asked about their policies regarding mortgage modification, they passed the buck and blamed Fannie Mae.

Unauthorized billing - then no action by bank as promised: I am not looking for a "refund" at this point because this "insurance" was crammed down my throat for 7 months. And I already told them that since I wasn't getting a full refund, I intend to use the insurance because since the last unauthorized billing I need the insurance and they never canceled it in March or August! This isn't the first time with issues regarding Associated Bank. Previously, my statements were sent to an address in MN without my knowledge or consent (ID theft/fraud) and I had to have the account stopped and start a new account. Then, I got "double-billed" one day from Celtic Insurance (over-drafting my mortgage payment) and now I had this crook posing as a reputable ASPCA Pet Insurance attacking my account without authorization for six months (no receipt via mail/email, no policy, no welcome packet with insurance card, no receipt “confirmation of payment” and ironically when I searched my statement on May 2012, the payment deductions weren't even on "my" statement, yet it was deducted from my account!).
I didn't notice the billing from this crook (Pet insurance via ASPCA ) until my August statement and notified the company (Lisa and Casandra) that I never authorized billing and didn't even know I had pet insurance and demanded a refund from day one with cancellation of the insurance. I also went to my bank (Associated) and filled out an unauthorized transaction claim that I have a document stating it was successfully submitted on 8/30/2012 at 2:05 pm (estimated completion on 09/20/2012 at 2:05 pm; service number ** with the dispute amount of $236.10 with each and every department transaction noted on this document). It was never submitted or investigated per the receipt.
How can the complaint be satisfactorily addressed? I am no longer am seeking a "refund" from ASPCA because even after two cancellations (one on the day I filled out the application in March). Then again on August 30 I found that the ASPCA never canceled my insurance and attempted to extort another payment from my credit card that I noticed on Monday, September 24 (dated September 18) with the ASPCA complaining they couldn't get their money out of my (closed) credit card account. It just happens that September 23 (Sunday), I found my dog to have an aggressive tumor that now costs $1400 in medical cost to remove and I notified ASPCA that since they weren't giving me a refund or canceling my insurance, I'd be getting my money’s worth and will be going to the vet. And since they wouldn't answer a single question about my policy nor did I receive it in the mail with a insurance card, I'd be sending them the bill!
That day, and without my knowledge or permission, ASPCA canceled my insurance after the fact on September 25th, which is the same day I was making a payment so the insurance wouldn't lapse into default for non payment. I called the 25th (same day) to cancel the cancellation and to make payment twice and "Scotland" told me he'd have someone of authority cancel the cancellation and take my payment that day.
I was not contacted until the cancellation went through where reinstatement would cause a lapse in my policy giving ASPCA an excuse not to pay my vet bill (lapse of policy with pre-existing condition as they would say). ASPCA policy states that they can't cancel my policy without written notice to my residence and without 10 days notice. I didn't request it and it was done without my knowledge or permission and without the notice provided in their own policy! I want my vet bill prepaid in the amount of $1400. If ASPCA refuses to do so to compromise for their alleged theft/fraud, I believe Associated Bank should pick up the tab. My dog needs medical attention. I was covered for all logical purposes and just because the ASPCA and Associated Bank manipulate the law, it still makes me the victim (and my dog)!

My husband and I opened an account with Associated last year. We received our debt cards and checks with my last name spelled wrong. My husband's name was right. We have the same last name! I went back to the bank and reordered with the correct spellings. We were charged for the checks again. After complaining for a week, they did give us our money back. Two months ago we moved, so I went to the bank to order new checks with our current address. I received the checks and paid four bills. The checks weren't clearing after two weeks. I finally noticed that our savings account was off by $401. The new checks had our savings account number on them instead of the checking account number. Again, back to the bank.
I thought things were finally straightened out. I received the new checks again, but now they have my brother's address on them instead of ours. Still haven't received my debt card I ordered. I was charged a $12 fee, which came out of my savings too. So today I got a letter stating that my savings account may be closed because I have 6 withdrawals from savings in a month. I have ADD, and most of my payments are on auto-pay for this reason. I directly deposited only what the payment needed per paycheck with a little cushion.
They kept taking out $25 first, then my payment (which of course now wouldn't be covered). When I called them to ask what the $25 was for, they had no idea. I asked if they charge a fee to pay by ACH, they told me they do not. I still don't know what that was for. Needless to say, ACH did not work for me this time, and I have used ACH for every loan I have ever gotten. So now the ex has filed for bankruptcy, which of course includes the boat, because in the decree we agreed to leave things the way they were, until we could each get back on our feet, and update the loans (I do not recommend this, regardless of your relationship at time of divorce). Since he has filed for BK, the loan is also in BK, which means Associated Bank cancelled my ACH withdrawals. I called right away when I noticed they did not take the payment. They explained that it is their policy to cancel ACH when the asset goes into BK.
I explained, I am keeping the boat. It is not technically in BK, it is mine. "Jackie" took my payment that day, charging me a late fee of course, because it was not the bank's fault my payment didn't post (?), and promised to send me new paperwork to re-setup my ACH payments. It's been 3 weeks, but still no paperwork. I just called, it is still listed in BK, and I can only speak to 2 people (who are currently unavailable), to make a payment. I had to leave a VM so they can call me back, so I can make a payment. I would have mailed the payment, but do not have their address, since it was setup as ACH. One more thing, before I setup the ACH, if I was late on a payment, they wouldn't even take the late payment unless, I paid both late and current, how is this helping anyone? I would have to wait until the next payday, and risk being over 30, so I could make both at the same time. I will never use this bank for anything ever again, not even if my life depended on it. Because of them,I was charged with late fees, and had negative credit reporting.

I was invited by a savings counselor to open a Visa Credit Card account. She told me that I would receive 3% in rewards for every dollar I spent on groceries and gas. In fact, here is the offer right off of their website today: "Associated Bank Credit Cards. Talk about a rewarding relationship. You and Associated Bank. Sign up for the Associated Bank Visa Signature Rewards Credit Card* today and you could soon be rewarding yourself with every purchase, every day!"
"You'll enjoy: Triple rewards on gas, drugstore and grocery store purchases, Unlimited 1% cash back on virtually all other purchases, Special $25 bonus the first time you use your card, The choice to earn cash back, merchandise, gift cards or travel rewards, 0% introductory APR for the first six months, No annual fee. You'll also enjoy worldwide acceptance with extraordinary rewards, and Visa security and protection you can trust. This is the beginning of a rewarding relationship. Apply today! "
I got the card and used it when we went on vacation, charging over $1,000 in gas. However, I did not receive 3% rewards so I called, for 4 months as each statement was received without 3%. I called and was always told, "We are having someone investigate this. You will see your points next month." I have now been informed that when I received my account information, there was a clause that said "limit of 2,000 points". So instead of the 4,500 points, I should have received over the 4 months, I have 1,500 points and will never receive 3% in rewards.
This is misleading and also false advertising. The bank claims that it's up to Elan Financial Services to deal with it but the bank is still making the offer without any mention of the limit on points! I recently asked a teller about the card and she told me I would get 3% back on groceries and gas. When I asked if there was a limit on points, she said, "I don't think so." I did not get the rewards that were offered and promised.

I was levied by the IRS (my fault though I was never told by the IRS or my bank that this had happened) and then the bank took a $100 "legal fee" for processing the levy. However, they never informed me of this fee, even though the law firm I work for is across the street from them and I had been their customer for over 2 years. In response to the $100, my account was overdrawn and I was charged an additional $315 in overdraft charges. Then, as I was paying it off, I received a call from their collection company but did not get the woman's name who agreed I could have until July 28, 2010 to pay the remaining balance.
Instead, on July 26, 2010, they did a "Charge-Off" without allowing me the full time to pay it. The bank issued me a letter stating I did not in fact owe any money to them in the hopes that would allow me to open other bank accounts. They acknowledged that better customer service would have alleviated the charge-off but said because the woman at their collection agency never placed any note in her computer file on me, stating I had until the 28th date, there was nothing they could do. Elliott at this branch was somewhat helpful but in the end, I still got completely **. I work for a law firm 20 feet across the street from this branch. I am so disgusted I could cry. Because of some anonymous collection agent's negligence in noting our conversation, I have a charge-off on my credit even though it states "no balance owed" or whatever, it still shows a charge-off. I will tell everyone I know about the treatment I received at the hands of Associated Bank and their shady collection company.

The bank decided to take out the largest amount of debts made on 1/29 first, which left me paying overdraft fees on three transactions made the same day which would have been covered if they would have taken the lowest debt first. If they would have done this, I would have only paid one overdraft fee instead of three. The bank loaned me 51.06 to cover the outstanding payments and charged me 100% interest, which came to 100.06 on the 51.06 loan they gave me to cover my overdraft fees. I am a college student and this kind of trickery set me back on my bills.

I checked my online account to see how much money I had, only to find I had $1 left. I made a decision to go to the ATM and overdraft $40 for gas and such for the next 3 days and pay the one overdraft fee for it. On my account, there were a few other transactions still pending from the weekend. I didn't think anything of this since they had all been done before the ATM withdrawal. The next day, I look at my account only to find that all of those transactions including the ATM withdrawal had been posted, but the ATM one came out first. So I was charged for nine overdraft charges instead of one because of Associated Bank's policy that the largest amounts are debited before the lower amounts.
I called and talked to a supervisor who was willing to take off only 3 of the charges. I think this is predatory banking and there should be a law against it. I also deposited money into my account to cover all of the transactions before the overdraft charges were posted but was still charged the overdraft fees because I was told I would have had to deposit the money the day before to avoid them.
This bank seems to be trying to make money off those of us that have tight budgets. I have heard more than a few stories of this happening to people. How can it be legal? I don't overdraft regularly, I did it this one time to make sure I had something for the next three days. Minus the three overdraft charges, they are willing to take off once I make a deposit to bring my account back to zero. I am paying over $200 in overdraft fees instead of $35.

paid down $10,000 in June of 2005 in addition to our regularly deducted payment, and then had our regular house payment deducted from our account in July of 2005.
We called Associated to find out the remaining balance on the account for a final paydown in July of 2005. Customer Service assured us that they would deduct the final payment from our escrow account and refund the remaining balance to us.
We received a paydown statement dated July 22, 2005 indicating that Associated had deducted the remaining balance, and that after mortgage filing fees with the Clerk of Courts, they would owe us about
$443.
In September we received a letter congratulating us on paying off our house. The same day we received a letter telling us we were two months behind in our house payment!
We called Customer Service several times, who assured us they had taken care of the mistake. They deducted the final payment, but reported us to Ameriprise as being delinquent for the months of August and September 2005, two months AFTER we paid down the house!
We received a credit report from Ameriprise in July of 2006 and again called Customer Service at Associated. They assured us our debt was paid, but said they would wait for the credit agency to contact them before correcting the problem. They also told us that they had a record of each time we had called them with our problem but had no explanation of why the problem wasn't cleared up.
Yesterday August 21, 2006 we received another credit report from Ameriprise, this time still reporting the account with Associated Bank on the "Adverse"
list and reporting they didn't know what happened to the August payment. They did take the "60 days delinquent" payment off of the report, but still had
in brackets "30 days delinquent."
THIS IS RIDICULOUS! We've heard horrible horror stories about this bank.
I tried to contact a bank manager at the Stoughton branch, who refused to return my call.
The Ameriprise "Adverse" information includes a zero balance on the account, but Associated Bank is still accusing us of being delinquent in our payments for months AFTER WE PAID OFF OUR HOUSE!
They need to be investigated. Our credit report needs to be cleaned up. We should have perfect credit.
Thanks for any help you can give us on this. It is most upsetting to pay a home down (and give the bank extra payments each month for years) and then have them accuse you of delinquent payments when the account is zeroed out.
