Unfortunately, under no circumstance would I ever outwardly recommend Associated Bank to anyone who is looking for a Mortgage. The biggest glaring issue we faced, among many others, was our loan being "capped" $20k short of our agreed upon amount just 3 days before closing. This was after months and months of working with them, which including several pre-approvals and at no point was there any concern with the amount we were asking for. They casually slipped it into an email, and then proceeded to decline multiple requests from us to talk on the phone so we could ask a few questions. Communication could not have been much worse, we were loaned over $1,000,000 USD and only spoke on the phone with them ONCE! We probably made ~15 requests to talk through concerns on the phone.

Went overdrawn and had a bunch of small automatic payments come through. 6 overdraft fees for automatic transactions under $5. They offered to refund one overdraft fee. Criminal behavior, absolutely disgraceful.

I don't understand why they even have a website. There was a month stretch where I couldn't make payment. Payments don't get pulled on the due dates, I've been hit with 2 penalties because they reverse my charges for no reason. I will be looking to refinance as soon as possible. Half their website is inaccessible telling you to call customer support. Card information is never saved so if you want to make an additional payment you have to input your bank information every single time.

I got a new car through them. I have been trying to make a payment for over a week and the website was down. I called and they said to bad pretty much. MY payment was going to be late. They still didn't care and had no other options. NEver in my life have I seen such horrible customer service. I also have not missed a payment in over 10 years! Will be refinancing ASAP. STAY AWAY

Somehow they don't have a live customer service rep at 10:00 p.m.. Somehow the prompts at their customer service # do not work for Card Services. In an emergency situation you will have to wait until the following day to speak to someone and ask why the prompts did not work. They close your online account if you have not used it often enough. They do no follow-ups with customers concerns regarding their account. The designs of their debit cards decreased terribly compared to a few years ago. If you were to log in online you still have to receive a phone call code in order to proceed online.
When calling card services you have to type in the card information multiple times or call back multiple times in order for it to be recognized. The customer service reps act as though you work for them. Some even insist on asking your social security number to verify you after you've typed in your phone password, card number or account number prior to speaking to them.

Avoid this despicable bank! They invite you to open an account with them and encourage you to set up DD and initial funding, after all verifications and deposit they will suddenly freeze your account without notice. One day you wake up and cannot login into your account or see your balance or pay any of your bills. These thieves then will not provide answers or help you. Using a faulty fraud detection system then disconnect you from your own hard earned money and will not give any recourse. You will get very rude people like Bridgette who won't help you. The only course of action you have left is filing a complaint with CFPB asap and let CFPB force these thieves to provide answers. Thank god for CFPB. Without such regulatory federal agencies these thieves would thrive on stolen money from customers. Never make these your primary bank. Avoid at all costs.

I had my payment set up as an auto payment out of my bank. Initially there was not problem then all the sudden the payments were not being processed or cashed. Nothing changed, on the bill pay side. The call can when asked what it was about they could not disclose it. I'm not providing personal information to a random call unless they can provide some details to verify that it is a bank. So after the 2nd check is not processed by them they send a letter say they haven't received payments. I look at my Bill Pay at the bank and it shows both checks we mailed but never cashed by Associated Bank. Never in all the years have I had a problem, and to have it happen twice by the same bank tells me there are some internal problems with Associated Bank.

My account was reported as delinquent because my payment (plus late fee) was received 12 days late. I called. Was told that there is absolutely nothing they can do about this to remove it. My credit has been destroyed; it went from excellent to poor. I am devastated. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

My statement balance shows a negative amount instead of actual balance. The reason is excess amount is not being applied to actual balance. When I called customer service they refused to give me actual balance.

My onlinebanking was hacked, the phone support techs said on the phone said "No it wasn't hacked, you actually called and successful changed your email, phone number, address, and security questions all at once. Is there any thing else you need help with?" [facepalm] If I wasn't so pissed off I'd have laughed. It was also inconceivable to them that the hacker would call on Saturday, since this bank doesn't even let you report account issues on Sunday. But will let some transactions go through on that day.
So here's the kicker, they didn't even give my Social Security # to breach my account supposedly. They used my Zelle account to "verify" the last 5 transactions made, which was because the hacker had literally just send 5 small deposits to it. On top of all that, they gave me a "investigator" to consult me, however he spoke to me effectively once over 2 months and hasn't respond to calls. What a joke, this bank makes Wells Fargo look competent.

Associated Bank Review. Associated Bank lost $974 and refuses to recover it. That is too much money to lose. They are depriving us. $2600 dollars was loaned to my daughter for a car. She was paying me through Zelle. Payments were working fine. She wanted to pay off the last $973.61 with Zelle. Associated Bank lost the payment and refuses to recover it, track it, or trace it. DO NOT use this bank. We can't afford this. We will gladly share our records.

Three days later I received an NSF notice and am out $1200. The branch manager told me I should contact a branch manager and customer service may not have the right information.

I made a payment through Zelle and Associated Bank flagged my account as suspicious because they said the transaction was a large amount. So now I can’t pay my rent or any other bills until they unfreeze my account. I’ve been told 2,5 and 10 days for the amount of time it’s going to take for them to review my account. We are very longtime 20+ years customers of Associated Bank and we are is leaving For another bank that will provide better fraud protection. AB approves a risky (no cvv and no address verification) e-commerce (internet) transaction time be approved for over $1000.00. This transaction overdrew the account. There were no flags or alerts. AB declines a chip read $250.00 transaction at a local Meijer (Pin bypassed). AB then recently approves two identical back-to-back risky e-commerce transactions again for $250.00 each with no cvv or address verification. I go out of town driving quite a bit and AB will decline $30 gas purchase transactions unless I have a travel alert. Good fraud monitoring systems can find the real fraud and deny those transactions. AB’s fraud monitoring system apparently can’t tell the difference between real fraud and more normal activity.

I received my advance SBA loan advance today and I went to make a $6000 withdrawal. Long story short, after noticing my skin color and being questioned about my business my account was frozen and I can't get any money until a fraud investigation is complete. I was told by the supervisor that they have to make sure the deposit is legit. It says Treasury on the direct deposit.. What else do they need. One of the fraud people told me I need to prove I'm a business owner. This is totally ridiculous. I will never use this bank again and I'm going to get this experience out on all the social media platforms to make people aware of this practice they are doing.

I have been banking with Associated Bank for the better part of 20 years. I have always been happy with the experiences I've had inside of the bank, dealing directly with the bankers. While calling in they have always been friendly. They have been forgiving and flexible with minor overdrafts and time-lapses with deposits and payments, etc. What makes me consider leaving is the online experience. They have been having technical issues for decades. I cannot count how many times they told me they are currently working to resolve issues in the system. I haven't been able to log in for a month now without calling. Seriously!? This is BASIC.
The balance is never accurate in real-time. It bounces over and under for days of total inactivity. They need to get it together with the IT department or they are finished as a bank IMO. When I traveled I asked them to remove the restrictions. It put me in bad situations because they restriction would automatically kick in again and shut my card down. I said I travel often and I want the restriction totally removed so I don't have to call every single time I am in another location. They told me it wasn't possible. Now, years later, I've been using the card on the other side of the country for months without calling in about it. Again, the people I've dealt with have been more down to earth and friendly than any other bank I've dealt with but the experience is ruined by the online situation.

I've been with Associated since the early 1980's... now retired. Checking, Savings, Mortgages, Misc Loans,.. etc. Never missed a mortgage payment or a credit card payment. I have an 800 credit score. I'm trying to borrow $15,000 towards a new vehicle,... A $35,000 truck. I have $70K in home equity, $17K between checking and savings, $40K in retirement income that they can verify cuz it's direct deposit,... yet they want copies of all my retirement and personal trading accounts. This bank has gone straight down the sewer for service. As soon as I can locate and set up an account at a new bank,... Associated will be in my rearview mirror. What a horrible company.

Customer service is inept, short and rude. How is it possible I am not able to get dates for notices and transactions that you can see have happened in your information? I am told that any information regarding dates will have to researched and sent to me. Nothing at this institution is automated, comprehensive or accurate.
I am glad to no longer bank with these people. They don't seem to have any sense of 2020 banking practices or systems. I am sure this is a great bank for anyone who still wants to do everything face to face or through snail mail. Bank elsewhere and if you have a company that uses them for anything, beware that company is not up to date on its practices either.

The whole process of Financing was slow and receiving Payment notices- late to due date, and then recording them late in system when I mailed the check prior to receiving coupon by 7 days of the 1st of month. And not applying the cash received to mortgage, is uncalled for. They don't have an answer to why this happened.

While everyone I have encountered at Associated Bank is friendly, their method of record keeping seems different than most banks or credit unions, and is poor. I check my account online daily, making sure my balance agrees with their's. There are frequent discrepancies, which I have never had a problem with at other financial institutions. For example, yesterday when I compared balances, Associated Bank's balance was $56 less than mine. I went over my records, and could not find a mistake, so I made a note of the discrepancy. Today when I checked my account again, the amount they list has changed, even though there aren't any anew transactions. Today the balance is $34 over my calculations. Perhaps tomorrow it will be accurate. This happens frequently. It has always reflected accurately eventually, but it makes it worrisome while waiting for that to happen.

I have been a customer of this bank and its predecessors for over 50 yrs. Their online banking through Quicken is terrible. Sometimes Quicken can download transactions and sometimes not. Four times in the past year I have experienced this problem. Calling customer service puts you in a queue that sometimes is 40 calls ahead of you. Their IT people obviously lack the knowledge and they don't call you back to help solve the problem. I am looking for a different bank.

Left me stranded in a city park after work, without gas to get home or money to eat (since early morning), thanks to some buffoon mistakenly putting a hold on my funds (a mistake the bank had admitted night before, promising renewal of the money that morning). Bank's admission on tape. But didn't get the money back until after half a dozen increasingly irate and desperate phone calls. But amazingly, this is not even the end. Bank apologized and, in my opinion, paid me to keep this quiet. It had been resolved peacefully. But then local bank manager, Mr. Matt **, opened the old wound, belittling the experience and demeaning me by claiming it couldn't have happened the way I said (even though he wasn't even involved; how would he know?). Bank CSR not more than 15 mins later confirmed that I was right, proved by the phone tapes. So, waiting for a promised apology.
They further contrived a cover story, also meant as a subtle smear in case this goes public, that my voicemail was full so they couldn't reach me. Even if true, bank customer-service said their first "reach out" attempt came Dec. 9 -- three days after I sent them an email saying time was up, I am sharing my story with the world since you won't apologize. It took me 15 mins to get to the bottom of this via phone, why does it take you a full week (and I don't even work for the bank!). An apology after an ultimatum is, by nature, insincere.

Associated Bank has been my bank since I was 15. Last week my online banking was hacked and fraudulent checks were submitted to my account. I right away went to the bank and was working with a lady to get it fixed as fast as I could. The checks were signed by some Glenn dude. They were from Buffalo New York, I live in Wisconsin. Today they decided to say that I was at fault and I must have gave someone my information so I could no longer be a customer there. This bank is absolute **. I did all the steps to fix this problem right from the get-go. Before the checks even bounced. Before the bank even got notified about the fraud. And they have the nerve to accuse me and ban me from Associated Bank. Nobody should bank here.
