My wife and I have been paying our Chase card every month on time for about 3 years. We have about $11,600 balance to date. We closed the account about 2 years ago. Recently we signed up for automatic bill pay through our credit union. It was scheduled to have half the minimum due every two weeks. The minimum due was about $235 and we were actually paying $267. In August 2008 we paid $267. On 9-8-08 we paid $133.50, on 9-19-08 we paid $133.50, and on 10-03-08 we paid $133.50.
I was checking our account online and notice a late fee for September so I immediately called Chase. They told me the bill closing date was 9-9-08 so the 9-8-08 payment went to August's bill and the 9-19-08 bill went to September's bill as did the 10-03-08 payment; however, the 10-03-08 payment was late because the payment due date was 9-29-08. We were told nothing could be done because the account was closed.
We hung up and I called back a couple minutes later and asked for a supervisor and the supervisor went ahead and reversed the late fee and I told him we would make the corrections at the bank to avoid this in the future. The next day I check the account again to see they changed my APR to 28.99% and our minimum due was about $389.00.
We called chase again and was told nothing could be done because the account was closed. We asked for a supervisor and they told us the same thing. We were told we could fax a letter in to the APR department explaining the situation and try to get the interest reinstated. We did that and checked back a couple days later only to be told it hadn't been received but it can take 3-4 days.
We got a direct number to the APR department and called them a few days later. We were told nothing could be done, the fax hadn't been received and that it takes about 7 days to receive a fax. We asked for a supervisor/manager and were told no one was above this person. Then we were told to fax or mail a letter explaining the situation to another department and maybe they could do something because they had more account access than the APR department.
This would all take another 7-10 days before they would even receive the letter. Now we don't know what to do because we don't have the money to pay off the card, we have never missed a payment, we have been paying more than the minimum due, our payment has doubled, the interest went from 7.99% fixed to 28.99%, and no one will help us. One would think with the current situation, that a little give and take would be called for but I guess Chase figures the housing market has screwed millions of Americans so why can't they. Besides the government would bail them out if they go belly up, all at the expense of the rest of us. I
f this is what we get for trying to do the right thing by paying our card off on time, more than the minimum, and paying an extra payment, then we would be better off not doing anything and just file bankruptcy. There has got to be a way to talk to someone to turn this around!! Chase sucks!!

I just closed my credit card Chase account. On the day of the closing, the last transactions had been included in the balance, so I just paid whatever balance amount online. After that, I called Chase and talked to the customer service representative. The person stated that they already received the payment and no balance remaining. Several days afterward, I received paper statement and had some balance to pay. I called Chase customer service and talked to a CS representative explaining the situation and wondering about the balance remaining. She said the first one was a mistake, responding to my questions with a condescending tone and hung up on me (after she knew that I had closed the account anyway). I was not sure how the remaining balance showed up and no good cooperation from Chase was really disappointing. Closing my CHASE account was the right thing to do. This company is not reliable!

I recently received a bill consisting of service charges now totaling $33.00 after requesting since September this account be closed due to lack of quality of service. I did receive a letter from Chase stating account would be closed. In August I received a statement with a service and finance charge reflecting a late fee for a bill I had not received. As you will note, I rarely use the credit card and when I do payments are made in full upon receipt of credit card statement. I understand this is not profitable for the bank, however it is how I handle my finances.
Upon receipt of the August statement I called your service center to explain this issue and was told to make payment and call back within 3 to 4 days to request a courtesy reversal of fees assessed. As you will note from account history, payment was made in full. Two weeks ago I received from my doorman a stack of old mail, which had inadvertently been placed in another tenant’s mailbox, and the original bill was amongst the pile. I called twice your call centers, one in India and again in the US, to explain the unfortunate postal error and was informed nothing could be done and service charges would remain. I requested account be immediately closed and informed I would not pay a charge that was due to the US Postal Office making an error.
I will state the quality of service Chase Bank is now providing is lacking. To charge a customer $15 on a $45 charge given account history is unethical especially during these economic times. At this time I have ended my banking relationship with Chase and request service charges get credited and account closed in a satisfactory manner with no derogatory listing on my TRW.

May 2002, I opened a credit card account with Chase. June 2002, they did not honor a courtesy check we deposited into our personal checking account. They paid for the NSF fees and said, "Oops, we made a mistake." We deposited another check. July 2002, we get a note from Chase they are closing our account. Our balance is over the limit and they demand we pay X amount to get the balance down. They stated we ran the check through twice. We have the original copy of the check and it shows only 1x being processed.
We called, wrote letters, explained to employees, supervisors, wrote letters to the OCC. We explained ad nauseam to collections, and finally Chase charges off the account. NO ONE AT CHASE WANTED TO HELP US CLEAR THINGS UP. We'd only cashed a courtesy check 1X. Fast forward 6 years. Chase has sold the account to another company and they are coming after anything I have in my name. I have written to the OCC. They are a governmental bureaucratic agency with NO authority. The Attorney General's office tells you they have no authority when it comes to Banks. It is no wonder our country is in the jacked up financial condition it is. I think Chase needs to be held accountable for what they are doing to consumers. Consumers need to stop doing business with CHASE. Find a foreign bank and deal with them.

January 2008: We used the Chase card to purchase a DVD set at Amazon.com for $134.99. August 2008: We received our first bill in August, and to be honest had forgotten about the purchase. The bill was for $313.99. I spoke to customer service about my willingness to pay the original charge + interest. Chase agreed to waive SOME of the late fees if I paid $245. I paid $245 and closed the account. We cut up the credit card.
October 2008: We had not heard from Chase since August, and suddenly we received another bill, for $142.09 in late fees and interest.
10/16/08: I called customer service. The agent apologized but said that we would have to pay. I asked for a supervisor and was passed to... Jessica **, who first just said, "There is nothing I can do and must pay." She then said no one at Chase has the authority to remove late fees, so I must be wrong when I said the last person had agreed to remove late fees. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she said she does not have a supervisor. When I disagreed, she passed me to her supervisor... Morgan **, who was not there. I left a voice mail.
10/17/08: I had not heard from Morgan **, so again called customer service and asked to speak to Morgan **. The agent said she could not find Morgan ** in her system. I asked to speak to her supervisor and was passed to... Jamie **, who said no one in Chase will reverse late fees. He said Jessica **'s supervisor is out for an unknown length of time, and Morgan ** is out and he doesn't know when he will be back.
I am now trying to find contact information for higher level officers in Chase. I don't think it is reasonable to expect us to pay, to this point, $387.09 for a $134.99 purchase that we wanted to pay off the first month, especially since Chase had told us that our balance was zero and the card was closed.

I have had a problem with my payments, documented and mailed at least 1 week prior to due date, not being posted by Chase for up to one week after the due date (i.e. a 2 week gap during which time any and all other mail sent at the same time was received within a 3 days period!). Chase then adds a late fee of $39.99 plus finance and interest charges which rotate and carry over to subsequent statements. My credit record has always been excellent, with full payments received on time. Aside from potentially altering my credit ratings, there have been some financial costs (even though these are probably under $200, there is a very major principle regarding the safety and integrity of Chase in upholding their fiduciary responsibilities regarding the diligent management of my account). Attempts to discuss this with a manager at Chase Credit Card Services was nothing less than an indignity without any resolution. I instantly cancelled the credit card and am now waiting to see if that will be honored, or if Chase will try to add on more charges! This has a strange similarity to the Providian Scams investigated by the FTC in the past and I believe the FTC might want to take a current look at Chase Bank.

On 2/23/08, my wallet was stolen. I had two Chase credit cards in my wallet. One card had a $15 credit and the other had a $0 balance. I called Chase within two or three days and was told the thief made small charges on both cards for which I would not be responsible, and that new cards would be issued. I received the new cards and soon thereafter, late notices on the charges made by the thief.
I went into my local branch in Dallas and spoke with an officer, Michael **, who communicated once again with Chase credit card services and assured me the charges had been removed and would not affect my credit. That was probably in late March or early April.
On Friday, October 3, I received a call from a collection agency. One of the cards had not been canceled, and it had been turned over to a collection agency with accrued interest. I did not receive any notice by mail. I had agreed to receive email statements on my Chase checking account but did not check the email for information on the charge card account because I had been assured it was canceled.

Changing the due date on credit card payment schedule to force a late payment thus enforcing the late fee and interest rate policy. I was provided a special interest rate for 4.99% for 1 yr unless you have late payments. I purposely schedule my payments to be 2 weeks prior to original due date to ensure that I would not be late. After 5 months, Chase arbitrarily changed the due date before my usual payment date thus forcing the payment to be late in their system. Once its late they have the right to institute a late fee and higher interest rate of excess of 24+%. After contacting Chase, they indicate that they can change the date at their will. This in my eyes is fraudulent business practices and should be stopped.

My interest rate was hiked and they blatantly said it was because of my credit report. As of march 2008, they are no longer doing this. Did something change? My interest rate is 28.9% and they won't lower it because of a credit report. I am trying to pay off this card but with that kind of interest rate, it will take 20 years.

I opened a Chase Card for use at Circuit City. I purchase some items with a financing special of 3 years no interest. It was either my first or second statement that never came in the mail. My fiance called about it and the customer service person agreed to remove the late fee. That never happened, I didn't follow up with it. I immediately switched to the ebilling option. My statements were be emailed to me monthly and I was making my payments just fine. Then on a statement in either June or July, I didn't receive the email. So, my payment was late. I paid the late fee and meant to call and let them know, but didn't do it.
My next statement came in fine and I made another payment, then my next statement was emailed to me. I just happened to check my account online to see when it was do, and I realized it was late again. Only this time, they charged me $301.00 in back finance charges and took away my financing deal. I called the customer service line and got a gentleman on the phone, who read from a script the entire time. He was useless, he might as well been a monkey on the phone. I asked to speak with a supervisor, I got Jacqueline ** from the Texas office on the phone. She listened very politely to me, explain my situation and acknowledged that it was an error on their end that I was not receiving the ebills. But she said my payments had been late 3 times and that due to their "policies and procedures", she could not remove the finance charges. I asked to speak with her supervisor and she said her supervisor had as much authority as she does to make changes to the account.
For a lousy $300, Chase wants to piss off a customer and lose their business. I have already read on this website how other people have had the same problem with their ebilling system. Chase probably does it on purpose because they know that they wouldn't get any interest off me if they weren't screwing around with my statements. They are crooks and they do not care about customers. Their company has gotten so big that they have forgotten who keeps them in business. People, do yourself a favor. Stop using credit cards. As soon as I get this problem taken care of, I am canceling my account with them.

When I opened this account two years ago, I was told there were no hidden fees or monthly fees of any kind. Since then, I have had to argue every month over a $10 service fee, which makes my other payments bounce. I am on a fixed income and they knew this but they still keep making these fees larger and larger. Today, the service fee put me in the negative by $4.99, so they tacked on a $70.00 insufficient funds fee and then another $12.50 for the $70.00 insufficient fee. When I went to talk to them about it, his look on his face alone was threatening and disrespectful. He refused to work this out with me and so I said I wanted to close the account altogether. He said I couldn't do that. I got upset at first, but then I just left and came home. I am not stopping here. I will pursue this until I have been satisfied and they are no longer in my life.

After signing up for online payments for the 1st time, I get a past due fee. I call, to find out that Chase does NOT send a paper statement once you do online. This was total news to me! I tell them I MUST have a paper statement. I await one, only to get one that says, once again, I am charged a late fee. I call once again, only to be told, "Too bad. You should have called when you didn't get your paper statement. We can't do anything." Give me a break! Why would I call if I didn't get the statement that they were SUPPOSED to send??? Funny how the statement arrives when it can include a late fee! I need to know the next step to resolve this because customers are royally screwed in this country. This demands action because of its unfairness & lack of clarity. I will NOT take this lying down. Banks have screwed us enough, as evidenced by what's happened over the past months.

September 11 we called Chase because we had not received our monthly statement. We always pay the balance in full and did not want to miss the payment date. Chase stated that the bill should have been there but would send another one. The original bill arrived by the 17th. They had not sent a duplicate one. The payment due date was September 25. This did not leave us much time to get the payment there. Nevertheless we mailed the payment to Chase on September 20 from the post office. This should have allowed more than sufficient time for Chase to receive the payment. This month when I opened my bill which arrived October 10, I see where Chase has assessed me a late fee of $39 plus finance charges of $15 and indicates that the payment was not received until September 26.
I contacted Chase today (October 13) to have the late fee and finance charges reversed because of not receiving the statement on time and Chase refused stating it was not their error. I think this is Chase unethical way of getting significant extra dollars ($54) when you pay your bill in full. It's a shame when in this economy we are just trying to stay afloat and be good citizens and customers by paying our bills on time. Needless to say I will no longer do business with Chase. Other consumers need to speak out and a class action suit needs to be filed against Chase.

I signed up for paperless statements with Chase, since my credit card statements sometimes failed to arrive in the mail. So, I gave Chase the benefit of the doubt and opted for e-billing instead. Last month, however, I did not receive any billing statements, despite getting other promotional emails from Chase. Upon checking my account, I found it a few days overdue, with a late fee and finance charges assessed. I immediately paid off the entire amount due and emailed Chase to ask what happened with the electronic statement.
A bank representative emailed back and assured me in no uncertain terms that the electronic statement had been sent out. Of course, it was their word against mine, so I would have dropped it there, except for the following fact: Inexplicably, my husband didn't receive his electronic Chase statement either, and also ended up having a late fee and finance charges on his account. For us, this is an unprecedented event: We always pay our credit cards on time and in full, and our credit rating up to this point has been excellent.
Browsing through other customer complaints on this site, I noticed a number of them indicate they didn't receive their Chase statement either. In fact, I'm afraid Chase is doing this deliberately, to extort money in the form of late fees and finance charges from clients who would have otherwise paid their balance on time. I hope a class action lawsuit can be brought against Chase for this reason, since their practices constitute clear customer abuse.

I just received a, what appears to be a back-dated letter (9/29/08) wherein it states - 'During a recent account review, we discovered that account activity during the time period of July-September 3rd resulted in your balance exceeding your credit limit.' When we called to question this, we were told that it was a finance charge which took us beyond the credit limit. How does this happen? A credit limit is just that, so they let us exceed it based on a finance charge and then penalize us. First, we have made at least three payments since July. Secondly, what is a credit limit if you can exceed it and why if they missed it initially are they now penalizing us, with an over-limit fee, instead of giving us the opportunity to pay the finance charge but not the finance charge and a penalty? This seems inherently deceitful, plus they miss this initially and now go back and penalize us?????

I opened an account with Chase due to a 0% APR promotion they sent me. In May, I thought I paid the entire balance off; however, apparently there was still about $60.00 left to be paid on the account. I was signed up to receive paperless statements via e-mail, which Chase never sent to me. Chase never attempted to contact me via mail, e-mail or phone to let me know that I still had a balance left on the account. I happened to check the account because I wanted to cancel it and found that I was 90 days overdue on the payment and had many late fees to pay. I paid off the balance in full, but now my credit is ruined. I called Chase to discuss this and they said they cannot be held accountable for not sending the e-mail statements. I explained to them that I should have received the e-mail statement I signed up for to notify me of my current balance (as I would have if I still received hard copy statements via the post office), but they refused to do anything about it. I requested my credit report and my score is now damaged because Chase failed to send out billing statements or contact me in any way.
Had I known this minimal amount of money needed to be paid, I would have paid it. I am disputing this negative problem on my credit report with all three credit reporting agencies and will file a complaint with the OCC as well. If this does not get resolved, I will then file a report with the BBB. I sincerely hope that a class action lawsuit will be brought against Chase for failing to do their job and for ruining customers credit scores.

The credit line was reduced down to the amount owed. Since this is now a personal card the billing date changed. Last month my payment date was 26th and I paid the bill by the 13th. But since they changed the account number and type of card the new date is the 1st so they sent my next statement as late payment and raised my interest to 28% from 11% and charged me a late fee of $39.
I will make a large payment on this card because if I do not the next payment we have a overlimit fee because of reducing my limit and raising my interest. I have been very careful to pay this card on time because last year I started paying electronically and I made an error in sending the payment. In December 2007, I purchased software through Amazon.com that cost $184.97. I was offered a Chase card for this purchase and I thought it would be a good idea, seeing as I was starting up a small business that I didn't already have a credit card for. The item was delivered via FedEx, but because I live in a rural area, I also included my PO Box number in my credit card application. Months went by and I never received a statement.
In May 2008 I received a call from Chase saying that I owed them almost twice the amount I had originally charged for the software. They didn't have my PO Box number and couldn't tell me why. I authorized a payment of $164 to bring my account current and was told I would now receive my statements at my PO Box. Here it is the end of September, and I just received a statement from them - indicating that I now owe $344.23! Including the payment I made in May, this is nearly 3 times the original purchase!
I spoke to Greg in customer service, and he told me that even though I gave both a mailing address and a ship-to address in my credit application on the Amazon.com web site, Chase would only receive the ship-to address. He also said that they have been mailing my statements to the PO Box address. In effect, he blamed both Amazon.com and the USPS for my having to pay so much in late fees and finance charges. He offered to remove the past three late charges, totaling $117, from my account and I made a payment of $219, which should clear this account except for a small finance charge on my next statement.
I told Greg that I thought this was a pretty good scam that Chase had going, to not send statements to customers and then charge them late fees and finance charges. I think he was insulted. Luckily this account has been canceled and I hope that I no longer have to make payments on this overpriced software!

They also refused to send the fraud questionnaire so I used one from another source with the pertinent information and had it notarized along with the police report.
Chase refused to acknowledge receipt because apparently I did not send it with return receipt requested. They refuse to acknowledge the fraud because they were not notified within 4 weeks. I explained that the vendor who stole the account number also did the book keeping for the office and intercepted the receipts and monthly statements. They state that a payment was made by me in '07 and I explained that several office checks were stolen and forged. This was affirmed by City National Bank in Carlsbad and the check among many others was recovered.
Chase refused to listen to any of this even with statements from the bank and my CPA. It has been a year since their original refusal to recognize the fraud and have threatened what they would do to my credit if I did not continue to pay. The thief has now left the state and is in hiding. The vendor was a corporation that presented professional looking monthly P&L statements that fooled even my tax accountant. I am at a dead end with Chase who only offers arrogance and threats. What now?
Over $5000 in minimal payments on the theft and damage to my credit which has been perfect for 50 years.

I called about an issue and learned that the address on my account had been changed. Naturally, the clerk couldn't tell me what the address was. Since the clerk had just issued a letter that I and my husband needed to sign and return, I was concerned. She said it was too late to stop the letter. (Which she had initiated 20 seconds earlier?) They claim the address was changed Aug. 14, and neither my husband nor I did it. How can it be that easy for someone else to change the address on record? Or how could it be that such a mistake could so easily be made within Chase? Talk about a security bomb!
This issue is not yet resolved. Chase is checking into it. In the meantime, I guess my personal mail from Chase will be delivered to a P.O. Box that I do not own and know nothing about. Who knows what someone will do with this information, and we will undoubtedly have to change our card number and all our information which is a hassle.

When making my Chase credit card payment in August of 2008 (due on 9/7/08)I wrote in the amount of $15 instead of correct amount of $76 (was writing another check for the intended $15 at the same time and mistakenly wrote the incorrect amount on the dollar block and the written amount of the check to Chase - both. In the memo area of the check along with the account number I wrote noted the $76 amount. On the 9th day of September while checking my record with the bank I noted the $61 shortage on the check that should've been $76.
I immediately called Chase on the 9th and had an additional $61 telephone payment deducted from our bank account. I was told the late charge posting that day - the 9th -for $39 would be waived and was told nothing more. Today, 9/22/08 our statement which cycled on 9/19/08 was received with a $39 late charge and an increase in interest from 7.5% to 28.99%. When I called Chase I was told that there was nothing that could be done about those issues and the extra $110 already charged above usual would have to be paid by us. (That was $70 extra interest and $39 late charge even if I pay entire balance today -that is the charge from 9/7/08 to 9/19/08).
If we do not pay the extra charges even if previous balance is paid in full Chase will show on the credit reporting done by them. Chase is a despicable organization! The public needs to know how Chase customers are treated. Something should be done to stop predatory practises carried on by Chase. I am going to contact the United Stated Office of Controller of Currency among others.
We have been already charged $110 for about 10 days due to our error and will need to pay the $3,760 account (now increased to about $3860 because of these charges assessed) in full to avoid 28.99% interest from continuing

I received my BP gasoline bill from Cardmember Services (Chase) and noticed it showed a previous balance. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never been late with my payments. I went to the file where I keep each previous bill. I always put the date that I mailed the check on the previous bill. However, the bill in my file was from 2 months prior. I always keep my bills in one spot so I concluded that I did not receive the last bill and therefore, no payment was made. I contacted customer service and explained the situation. The late fee was listed as $39.00 for a bill that totaled $150.25. Plus there was a $4.43 finance charge. Clearly, the late fee is beyond exorbitant.
I clarified that I had never missed a payment and that I always paid my balance in full. I asked that they reverses the late fee and was given a condescending lecture on how I should pay the bill whether I receive the bill from them or not. And then was told it would not be waived. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was flat out refused. I then hung up and called back. The next person said her name was Lee and when I asked to speak to a supervisor she said I AM THE ACCOUNT MANAGER! She then actually beat out the original customer service rep with her condescending attitude and added that she paid her bills twice per month and that I should read the fine print on my bill. She concluded that a reversal of the late fee was NOT going to happen. Chase Credit card has one of the most shameful customer service centers out there...and that's saying a lot these days.
The unbelievable frustration caused by this does not have a dollar amount. The $39.00 charge on a bill for $150.00 is abusive. I will pay the portion of the bill that I owe less the late fees. Based on the outrageous treatment I received and the excessive charge, I will cease doing business with this company. This is also an inconvenience for me when I travel. Something has to be done about these people! How many complaints do you need?

I made a payment to Chase on the 4th of July for the month of July. The billing cycle ended on the 4th as well. Chase posted the payment for the previous month, added a late payment to my account and increased my rate to 29.00% from 9.0%. I then contacted Chase and they removed the late fee but kept the high interest rate. I contacted Chase again on 9/21/2008 at around 12:30PM PST, I first spoke to two in the customer service dept who basically said I would have to wait six month and there was nothing else I could do; I did not accept that answer so I asked to speak to another manager.
I then spoke to Eli, a floor manager in Oklahoma, who said he was going to put in a request to the corporate office to bring my rate back to what it was initially because this was done in error; but it will take five business for the corporate office to come to a decision and I should receive some sort of notice within ten to fifteen business days. I will be contacting Chase in five business day to see if this issue has been rectified.
It is quite interesting to me because during the months of October and November of 2007 and I made the payment on the 4th and the payments were processed for that billing cycle not the previous month; I informed Eli of this and I asked him what would he do if he was in this situation. Eli then told me he pays close attention to dates; I told him that I never had a late payment with Chase and Eli then blamed the error on the computer because they process the payments.
It is so easy just to blame the computers. It is quite pathetic actually, I know the financial institutions are having problems with bankruptcies and etc. but I never thought that Chase needed money that badly to steel money by unjustly increasing interest on credit cards. High interest rate.

Because of their problems with staff over Labor Day, my check suppposedly was not posted until September 4. They take no liability for human error and backlog. I was charged the seemingly typical $39.00 fee plus an $8.65 finance charge. When I tried to speak with a Chase representative, I was given the you are wrong and we are in control and therefore right routine.
I am saddened to see what Chase has done to really good citizens trying to keep it all together and doing everything to keep their treasured credit rating. Class action lawsuit---yes! They deserve to be severely reprimanded for their greed and lack of compassion. I am tired of this greed.
A $39.00 late charge and an $8.65 finance charge. Possible results on my perfect credit rating---the most devasting of all the end results of this Wall Street situation and scam.

I have two Chase Rewards cards, one of which was abruptly closed without warning. It took 3 days of calls, with 5 different customer service reps agreeing that there seemed to be no reason to close the account. After close to 2 hours trying to track this down, I finally get an answer from a supervisor. They said that the bank had decided to close the account due to inactivity, even though I had been using it regularly the previous 2 months. Though I know that these banks have the right to close an account at any time for any reason, I felt it was wrong that I was not given any warning about this beforehand. It was embarrassing to suddenly have the credit card denied, when I pay my balances in full each month, and have other CHASE accounts as well. Nice way to treat their loyal customers.
They said this account can not be reinstated. Any rewards that I would have earned have been forfeited because the account is now closed. They would not even agree to transfer the rewards to my other CHASE card which has exactly the same rewards. Seems the banks will now try to steal your money any way they can for bad choices they've made in the past.

I have had a credit card with Chase for at least 5 years. A year ago I made a cash advance (September '07) for $450. I also have a balance on the card from purchases. I pay my credit card online through my chase checking account and today I looked over my statements since January. My $450 cash advance (I have regularly made payments on my account ever since I got it) is now about $550. Every month a finance charge is added to the cash advance line item and the balance does not decrease.
I called Chase to query on this as this is odd seeing as I made monthly payments to Chase. I spoke with Reva. Reva explained how Chase applies my monthly payment against the balance. 1)They pay any finance charges and fees on the account (obviously they don't pay finance charges on the cash advances). 2)They pay toward the balance of the lowest interest rate on the card. 3)They pay to the balance on the next higher interest rate. 4)After the previously mentioned balances are paid in full they then begin paying toward the highest interest rate which is of course the cash advance.
Reva confirmed to me that I have no recourse with Chase to pay down on the cash advance line item in my statement until the other (90% of my balance) portion of my bill is paid in full. I asked Reva if after making the minimum payment I could make an extra payment to pay down the cash advance which is a much higher interest rate. Reva said that Chase policy did not allow that. I am seeking to resolve this unethical policy with Chase so that I can pay my bill as I see fit and not be subject to Chase taking my payments and skewing them to maximize their profit.
I tried a balance transfer to another Chase credit card but they would not let me do that. Until I find another credit card company I will have my cash advance balance increase every month until the card is paid off.

My husband purchased an Intex Easy Set pool from Toys R Us in May of 2008. He purchased this pool with our Chase Toys R Us Credit Card. At the time of the purchase, there was a special promotion that allowed us no payments or interest until November 2008. In August we started receiving phone calls from Chase Toys R Us Credit Card stating we were delinquent on our payments.
When I questioned them on this, they stated that we had made a $9.00 and some odd cent purchase in June that we did not make a payment on and because of that, the no payments no interested was removed from our account, leaving us to pay the balance immediately. When I told Rachel from customer service that we did not make a purchase for the $9.00 she said she would remove the charge (because we have never been delinquent prior to this and have ALWAYS paid our balance in full every February since opening our account with Toys R Us) and she said she would reinstate the no interest no payment until November. She also said she would contact the credit agencies to clear up any confusion on delinquency and that we were good to go until November when our first actual payment would be due.
Since that time, I have received anywhere between 2 and 10 phone calls a day from Chase stating that they are not going to remove the 9.00 charge, nor are they going to reinstate the no interest no payments until November and further more they are not going to contact any of the credit agencies to let them know we are not delinquent. I have gone round and round with Chase on this matter and no one seems to refer back to the notes in the computer on the conversation I had with Rachel in August. I have asked them to please listen the recordings of my past phone calls with them and they refuse to do that. I have asked them what the point of recording phone calls was for if not for resolving issues such as this one.
My husband and I have received numerous letters from Chase as well as the phone calls. I am very frustrated because we did not make the purchase for 9.00 (which we did not even know was on our card until she informed me of that on the phone) and we certainly are not delinquent on our account per the agreement we have on paper when we purchased the pool in May. We have copies of all correspondence with Chase as well as documentation of the phones calls (times of days and dates).
We are continuing to accrue late fees and negetive reporting to credit agencies because of Chase Toys R Us cards failure to follow thur with the agreement we have on paper with Toys R Us.

Two days later my wife received a card offer exactly like the same card we cancelled. I looked at the date on the envelope and it took nine days to get to Port Charlotte. Today, I received my statement from Chase. I was shocked at how high it was, as I had a CREDIT last statement.
Although I made purchases on my card in July, they did not show up on my statement until the August billing cycle began. This caused my balance to be over. My card never came up declined! I had no way to know that I was going over my limit.. they intentionally mislead me to continue to spend so they could charge me the overdraft fee! To make matters worse, although I usually get my statement within a day or two of it closing, it was a WEEK this time... again, I continued to spend to add up for what is sure to be another fee on next month's statement.
I closed my account, but not after getting no service, no apology and attitude from the customer service reps. They tried to end my call without allowing me to speak with supervisor, but I was eventually transferred to one, with no help but a sorry, why don't you pay the balance and then we'll sign you up for overdraft protection for a minimal monthly charge. I have tried and tried to get my interest lowered, even up to writing a hardship letter, and they still won't budge. The representative told him that since it was after 4:00 pm, any payment made online would be considered late because it will go on the next days business. She then told him she would waive the over the phone fee so he wouldnt be late. He paid $88.00 as agreed and we were done. Or so we thought.
We got his bill in this month and there is $90.00 due. It is due tomorrow, 08/29, and my husband called them tonight. He explained to them the "misunderstanding" and surprisingly he was told we were late because we paid on the 30th of July. He proceeded to tell them the whole story again and what the representative told him that day. Obviously they werent cooperating so he asked to speak to a supervisor.
As he was explaining the whole situation to her, she kept telling him that it was his fault and he made the payment on the 30th. He told her he made it on the 29th with a representative over the phone and that was the whole purpose for doing so. She kept telling us that the representative made his payment on the 30th. He asked her how that was his fault. That was the reason for having an option to pay over the phone or having a rush payment. She was adamant about it being his fault. When he requested to speak to another supervisor or her supervisor, he was told "that wasnt an option".
He hung up and called back. A representative that answered said there was no other person there to talk to. He asked when their shift change occurred and would never get a direct answer. It all started with the the promotional check that offer special interest rates for account balances. My wife and myself both HAD extremely good credit. We had 2 cards from chase. One had a $25,000 limit the other had a $10,000 limit. We would use our other credit cards for purchases and cash advances when necessary then transfer the balance to chase at a premium rate. Usually 2.9% for the life of the loan. In 2006 I had a severe condition which led to an operation. I kept up with my payments during this time and even after that while I was on reduced hours due to my illnesses. Well they gave us the option of choosing our due dates. I chose to have my wifes card due date changed to the same as mine in November of 2006. Prior to that we had transfered all other credit card balances to chase to receive the 2.9% interest rate.
Then in April of 2007 they changed my due date without my consent. They said that it was listed in the important news section. I guess it was lost somewhere in between Save 10% off Mickey Mouse Ears at Disney and Get discount air fare, because I didn't see it. Well anyway the raised my rate from 2.9% to 29%, my minimum payment when from around $300 to over $1,000 per month Just on my card alone. They can call me for every little promotion at home BUT, Can't notify me directly when they change my due date. When I call them to find out what had happened they refused to lower the rate, but gladly changed my due date back to the 26th like it was prior. I feel that they did this on purpose to purposely cause me to default on my rate agreement.
WHY WOULD I CHOOSE TO CHANGE MY WIFES CARD TO THE BEST TIME OF THE MONTH FOR PROMPT PAYMENT AND LET THEM CHANGE MY CARD TO A BAD TIME OF THE MONTH THAT THEY KNEW 5 MONTHS EARLIER WAS A BAD TIME OF THE MONTH FOR US. They did this deliberately for their own monetary gain. There should be a LAW protecting people from this.

My only choice they gave me was to respond to the notice by the deadline sent in an august paper statement that I did not get because I had paperless billing,or my finance charges would be increased to the maximum.
I have never made a minimum payment, I have never made a late payment, so I contacted customer service and they stated that they did not have record of my paperless bill and that the notice sent in the mail that was never recieved stated a deadline that I did not respond by. The only option they gave me was to cancel my account cut up my credit card contact any vendors that I gave my card number to and stop charges.

My wife and I have conducted business with Chase for many years. These transactions included a home mortgage and many car loans. Most if not all were paid off early. We both have credit scores just below 800. We decided we would take a Chase credit card which offered zero percent interest for a year. For the first 7 months everything worked out fine. When we received our statement for July we noticed it was due on July 4. That should have been a tip off. We mailed the payment early as we knew the postal service would not be delivering on a holiday.
The next statement came and we saw a late fee of 39 dollars and the interest was bumped to 9.9 percent. We called and they waived the late fee but would not do anything about the new interest rate. I asked what proof they could show me that the payment arrived late. They could not. I inquired since we were long term customers with a perfect payment record if that could be taken into account. The answer was no. In turn I told them I would pay off the balance and never do any business with Chase in the future.
I know bait and switch when see it. Any payments I send to any bank will now have to be signed for. My advice. Stay away from Chase. They are a fraudulant and have no loyalty to their core customers.

Knowing from past experience with Chase that any internatioal charge can be declined without prior customer notification, I called Chase one week ago to let them know that in preparation for a September trip to Europe, I would be booking a selection of excursions from my cruise operatort in Surrey, England. These excursions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so I told the Customer Service representative the approximate amount of the charge (converting pounds to dollars) and the location of the operator. The charge was declined by Chase for security reasons, but Chase Bank made no attempt to contact me about it. Were it not for the prompt response of my travel agent and a cruise line representative, my wife and I would have been bumped from a number of tours.
When I called Chase and asked about the memo recording my conversation with Customer Service, the Chase rep acknowledged that the information was on file. Then he started saying,You have a lot of recent charges... as if that explained away declining the excursions charge. I spoke to two other reps before finally being transferred to someone who claimed to be a supervisor. he told me that it did not matter if I called ahead. Chase could not possibly check every account memo before approving or declining a charge.
I understood that, but asked him why I wasn't called about the charge. He replied that I would be called anytime from 24 to 48 hours after the charge was declined, AND it made no difference if I called ahead; Chase could still decline any charge that looked suspicious. Basically, I could do nothing to guarantee approval of the charge before the fact. This despite a perfect credit history, full balance payments each month, and over $36,000 of available credit in my account.
Other than extreme anger toward Chase, and the possibility of losing out on some great excursions because of delayed approval, my consequences are minor. I just want to warn others that Chase will decline international charges no matter what you tell them before you travel.

I've been a Chase United Mileage Plus card holder for years. I pay off my entire balance every month via Chase's online system to avoid interest fees. (To be fair, I have been late a time or two over the years due to my bad, and have paid resulting late fees). My monthly due date has been between the 21st and 23rd for as long as I can remember. I log online each month to schedule my payment, and did so on the 19th this week. However, this time I discovered a $39 late fee. My due date had been moved to the 16th (a Sunday).
Puzzled as to why, I called customer service and was told they have the right to change my due date at anytime but they would gladly change it back for me if that was more convenient. I could not get any straight answer from anyone as to why my due date was moved. And, unfortunately for me, they refused to remove the late fee since the new due date was disclosed in my current statement. I had never been treated so rudely as a customer - it was almost like they were reading from a script.
Ironically, I could not open my statements online but I did locate the paper statement. Indeed my paper bill did show a new due date. I checked my previous statements and mail/emails to see if there was any correspondence from CHASE to warn me of any up coming due date changes so that I could be proactive. There was none. It is interesting that they would move the new due date to a few days prior to my historically known payment due date and could not explain a valid business reason as to why. Had there been a valid business reason to change my due date, why were they able to change the due date back to what it was so quickly?
We all know there are sophisticated computer software systems out there that can monitor/analyze consumer behavior patterns and in turn project possible profits to be gained if slight changes are made in a company's business practice. I do believe this is perfectly okay for a company to do, as long as it is not done in a way that blindsides or misleads the consumer. I may fall into a minority of cardholders that pay off their balance every month and clearly CHASE makes no profit directly from my wallet. With a company the size of CHASE, you could imagine that if only 1% of a target consumer group is affected by a shift in given policy that was not reasonably and fairly published ahead of time, lots of money can be made. I've been punk'd, as they say!
I feel I was mislead into paying $39 dollars plus whatever interest will be billed me next month. Is there anyone looking into this company's business practices? $39 + interest is not going to put me in the poor house, but I feel a wrong was done here to me and the countless others who have had the same experience.

I opened a Chase Credit card loan for $600.00 In February of 2008 for a 6 month period. Set it up with Chase Cardmember Service for 6 payments of $103.00 (3% fee included) through online banking, to be paid by online recurring payment on the 8th of the month. Last payment to be paid on 09/08/2008. Unbeknown to me unless I had a magnifying glass to view the fine print on their monthly statement, they changed the due date to the 5th of the month. This generated at 'late' fee of $30.00 for them.
I believe this is done by Chase, and probably others, to generate more money than the 3% charge for the original loan. I also believe this creates a hardship for many folks, especially the elderly of which group I belong to, and should be outlawed for the duration of the original loan. The Chase representative for my original loan reviewed my proposed online banking setup of $103.00 per month for 6 months and told me that was just fine and will take care of it. Now I have another $30.00 for 'late' fee and Inerest, to pay for a last payment of $133.00.
This causes financial hardship, especially on folks with fixed income who don't anticipate a due date to change for whatever reason. I have read all of the fine print with a magnifying glass and did not find where a due date can be changed for any reason.

I have a Chase credit card through a gas-station chain. The first year was 0% interest. I always pay my balances in full, but allowed two months to go by with large, but not complete, payments because of the 0%. Last month, July, I paid the balance in full. In August I received my statement, and a $9.61 finance charge is added.
I called Customer Service to find out why there is a finance charge when the balance was paid in full, two weeks before the due date. I was informed by the cheerful representative that this is a finance charge from the PRIOR month - which is supposedly reflected on the current month's balance. I asked her to explain this strange bit of logic. She said that since Chase doesn't know when a payment will be received, they add a finance charge in case payment is receive late! She added helpfully that if I pay the current balance in full, there won't be a finance charge on next month's statement. I replied that there certainly wouldn't, because after I pay the current statement in full on Friday of this week, I'm canceling the account.
This strikes me as yet another way for a company to try to screw its customers with impunity. I wonder how many Chase customers are having extra charges applied to their balances that they're not aware of.

I opened my Chase credit card on or about August 2005. I used the card here and there and paid if off on or about September 2006. I purposefully left the account open with a zero balance for EMERGENCIES. One such emergency arose around the second week of August 2008, and I called Chase and ordered a replacement card (I had misplaced my card). I was told that was not a problem, and I would receive the card within 5-7 business days. I also logged in to my online account with Chase and ordered some convenience checks. After receiving the checks less than a week later, I used a convenience check by depositing it into my checking account, and a few days later, it was kicked back by Chase.
I called Chase to find out why the check was returned when there was a zero balance on the account, and the woman I spoke with told me that it was because I had not used their system to make a payment in the past year, which makes absolutely no sense. She said that she could complete a balance transfer to my checking account over the phone, and she collected my checking account number, etc. I told her that I had also ordered a replacement card the same day I ordered the convenience checks but that I had still not received the replacement card. She informed me that the card had never been sent out, and she transferred me to the department that handles replacement cards where I spoke with a man who informed me that my account had been closed due to inactivity.
I told him that I had ordered the convenience checks and no one told me that the account was closed, and I also told him that I had just completed a cash advance to my checking account with the previous customer service representative. He acted very surprised and said that the convenience check had been kicked back because the account had been closed, and he did not know why the previous customer service representative told me that she could complete the cash advance.
Chase's incompetence cost me $560 in overdraft fees from my bank, and if that wasn't bad enough, now Chase is trying to charge me $39 for a returned convenience check fee. I e-mailed customer service asking how an account that was supposedly closed could incur any fees, especially when this was clearly Chase's error, and I got a return e-mail saying that the charge was legitimate, but not explaining anything else.
If Chase had told me when I first called them around the beginning of August that the account had been closed due to inactivity, of course I would have said OK and taken other measures to get the money I needed, but Chase sent me the convenience checks anyway.

Chase's Credit Card Terms and conditions state that you are given at least 20 days grace to pay merchant charges. In reality the minimum of 20 days is a MAXIMUM of 6-13 days. Chase starts the clock running at the close of the billing period even though the card user may not receive the bill until some 4-7 days later.
Chase stops its clock when Chase reports receiving payment, which usually is 3-7 days after cardholder mails the check. Accordingly the cardholder has a maximum of from 6 to 13days from the time the statement is received to mail a check or face late charges and finance fees.
What happened to the minimum of 20 days promised by Chase? Why are they allowed to continue this deceit? Why do so many reputable companies allow their names to be associated with Chase credit cards?

When I called to ask why my rate continues to be so high, I was told that I am a threat to their bank and they have no lower interest rate to offer me. Chase is a joke and should not be allowed to do business like this. None of my other credit cards are above 11% and I've never been told by any lender that I'm a threat. I cancelled the card but Chase doesn't care. They will continue to collect their 28.99% until I pay it off.

Chase then proceeds to send me a letter in the mail, wanting me to sign a form, saying that the charge was unauthorized, but I now realize that the charge is for the random merchandise that I ordered in June. I have read a lot of complaints about Chase credit card on this site but mine is a bizzare one. I used to live in Sunnyvale, CA, US from 1999 to 2005 and i now live in Scotland, UK from July 2005 to date. While i lived in US i never owned a Chase card. Today (July 31 2008) i received a call on my work phone from Sherrif's office. The person who called me asked me when i would be available at home because he had to serve summons to me. I was shocked then thought somebody was playing prank. I asked him what was this regarding. He said it was regarding credit due and connected me to a attorney's office. And to more shock i learned from the attorney that a case had been filed against me because i had a due of $24000 unpaid for 2 years.
I explained to him that i never owned a Chase card and i had not lived in US for past 3 years. Apparently the Chase card was opened in my name and my social security 4 years back, that is during the last 1 year when i was still in CA, US. I had not received any bills from Chase and i had not paid anything to chase as i did not own a chase card. Interestingly whoever was using the chase card had paid promptly for first 2 years and stopped paying from last 2 years. Bizzare...... And apparently Chase was chasing me (or a ghost) for past 2 years. They have been through 2 collecting agencies and all this while i was clueless living in UK.
The attorney i spoke to suggested me to check my credit report and i did. More surprises. My credit report has one sunnyvale address where i lived and 2 Palo Alto addreses which i don't even know where the street is. And my credit report says i work for Sequoi Med Clinic. I am a Software engineer by profession and worked in US for 5 years with a software company. That same company transfered me to UK and i am still working for the same company. My credit report also shows that i had 2 chase credit cards. One was fully paid and closed and the other has a overdue of $18000+ and adding 2 years interest to it, the amount now due is $24000+. After explaining my situation to the attorney he said he believed me but he still has to provide his services to his client which is the collecting agency. Fair enough, i understand his position.
Now since i live in UK, i cannot be summoned. The attorney says the case would go into the court and since i won't be appearing the case would be ruled against me and my bank accounts seized. Do i really have no options? Is this a genuine case of stolen identity and credit card fraud? Since the card was paid for the first 2 years, could this be a case of mistake made by Chase who might have mixed up my social security with somebody else? But then the question is how did Chase get my social security. Do i have any options or will i be reduced to a helpless bystander while somebody loots me under my nose? I don't know what to do or how to handle this situation. I will be grateful for any help/advice.
Oh and the attorney also said the collecting agency was offering to settle out of court for $3500. One more question, how can somebody use a credit card which has my name and social security and sign for me? Won't the collecting agency have to prove that the name, social security, and the signature match?
Mental torture, i will probably gulp a few sleeping pills now to get some sleep, its 1:10am here.

I received notification on July 29, 2008 on a Charged Off amount reported on my credit report. This has SERIOUSLY affected my credit score and I am beyond LIVID. I am in the process of purchasing a home and this entry is causing SERIOUS damage to my credit score, not to mention it should not even be on my report. A phone call was made to Chase Customer Service Department on July 30, 2008 to get this removed. The first phone conversation was with customer service rep, Daryl.
I explained to Daryl that this account was closed by me due to the fact that I did not agree or accept the new terms of the credit card (30% APR is ridiculous). In October 28, 2007, the balance was paid in full ($6,600.00) and the next month I received another bill (final) showing zero balance. Daryl informed me that an additional $70.62 was charged for finances charges. I received no mail, email, phone calls, etc regarding a past due amount during the next 10 months. Daryl acknowledged there were no correspondences sent to me or anything noted in the account to show any type of contact with me whatsoever. Daryl informed me that the only thing he could do was send it to the Dispute Department but this would take 30-45 days to be removed from my credit report. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL.
I asked to be transferred to the next person in command. At this point I was transferred to Floor Supervisor, Sid. The same conversation was discussed with Sid and the same robotic scripted speech was given to me that this would be sent to the Dispute department for resolution, however once again being told this could take up to 45 days to be removed from my credit report. I told him that this was theft by Chase to charge me finance charges for a paid account and closed account and Chase was in violation or reporting false data on my credit report and that I would be reporting Chase to the Better Business Bureau, The Attorney General and anybody else I could think of.
It appears that Chase has a history of doing this to consumers via the consumer affairs website. There are HUNDREDS of consumers who have reported Chase for billing/credit/reporting errors and most of them are all from 2007 and 2008. Sid then provided me a fax number in which I could send a letter to so that my issue would be resolved. I sent the fax stating I EXPECT to have this amount removed from my credit report as well as be notified via reply to this email along with all recipients in this email that this has been taken care of within 24 hours. If I did not receive notification back by the next day I would be reproting my problem to consumeraffairs.com as well as BBB and AG. GUESS WHAT - NOT TO MY SURPRISE - I did not hear anything from anybody.
This problem has created a SEVERE blemish on my credit score causing me to have a higher interest rate that I should because of Chase and their inability to close accounts when they have been paid off and closed.

My fiancee (been together with him for 12 years now) had a Chase credit card last year and he made a late payment and they raised his rate. He paid off the card (the balance was only around $300) and he quit using it. This year, they sent him an attractive offer of a 7.99% so I told him to take them up on it. He has been using the card for a little while and we got a phone call on July 3 (it is now July 29) that he had not made a payment. So we say oops!, sorry, made a $300 immediately on the phone and begged our way out of the late payment of $39.
On 7/25, I called them again saying I still had not received a current statement and we did not want to be late again. They said it was going out that day. I asked politely if they could send copies of the last statement since now I have searched my home and found NO statements from them for this year. They said no problem. Yesterday on July 28, I received THREE MONTHS OF STATEMENTS!!! PLUS, THEY HAD RAISED HIS APR TO THE DEFAULT RATE OF 28.99%! We called them and complained loudly. I told them we had never received ANY statements, nor was there a problem with our mail, nor had we moved, nor any other problem that DAMIEN accused US of having. He said the burden of proof lie with US to show we had NOT received the statements. Additionally, I still had not received THE CURRENT MONTH'S STATEMENT. (I just received that today.)
I think this is very fraudulant and that they did it on purpose--knowing he did not manage the account well last year--they helped him to mismanage it this year. Now Damien stated, If you know you have been using a card for so long, you know a payment needs to be made. He's right, but I pay all the bills in the house and I had not paid attention to how long he had the card--everything that comes in I pay and since I have two Chase cards, initially I thought I just over looked it--plus, since I am buying a home with this man--I am going to manage his finances just as well as my own, if not better, and I have a 760 FICO to prove it.
As if the banking industry has to really go out of their way to screw consumers at this point, but I am very surprised at Chase doing this. I had always found them to be quite fair in their customer service management. This now makes four months of statements not received. I would like for them to show me the originals of the statements because what they sent were copies--they're shrunk to about 50%.
They say the rate will not go down for one year and there is nothing we can do about it.

About 2 months after I started using the card I was billed around $70 for the annual fee. I called up thinking it was a mistake and they would take it off. They refused so I cancelled the card. This was several months ago and just this week I got a letter in the regular mail (not email) from them saying that the account ending in so and so numbers was not going to be renewed due to the fact that I have had too many inquiries for credit on my account.
First of all, I closed the account months ago. Second, the numbers didn't even match. I recently sent for all credit reports from all three major reporting agencies and there wasn't anything out of the way on my record, so I have no idea what Chase is talking about or if this letter is just some kind of scam. I attempted to call the number provided in the letter and the guy on the phone said that there was too much static on the line and to wait on hold for his supervisor. I heard no static and hung up.
Something is very fishy about this company and I will never deal with them again. Another strange thing, both times I have called them the person on the phone had a heavy Irish brogue, coincidence or what? I thought that was unusual, nothing against the Irish, I'm part Irish but wondered where their call centers are!
Out 70 dollars which I guess is minimal but still aggravating, at least I found out what I was dealing with early on which is a very poorly run company that cares nothing about customer relations.

I had various unautorized charges on my account. I contacted Chase and they took care of them. These charges were for utilities where i did not have any accounts some where out of state. When i recieved my new card i called in to activate it and was offered Chase Fraud Detector in which I enrolled for a monthly fee.
The unauthorized charges haven't ceased. I have called many time but always get the run around. They even told me that I cancelled the fraud program in the middle of this ordeal.
I recently applied for a home equity loan to remodel and I was not approved because of this.

My bills routinely take 8 to 10 days from the invoice closing date to reach my mail box. The days given to pay the bill range from 21 to 25; which ends up being 10 to 15 days to get the check in the mail and back to them. I always pay credit card bills the day I get them and they are mailed the same or next day. Even so I recently got a late charge of $29.00 and they showed my check being posted the next day.
They did take off the charge when I complained; however they told me the invoices always go out on the closing date and they have no idea why it should take so long to get to me or why it should take so long to post my check. Chase is not the only company to do this, and I am starting to date stamp all my credit card invoices to keep track.
THE PROBLEM IS THERE IS NO CANCELLATION DATE ON BULK MAIL -- I CANNOT PROVE WHEN THE INVOICES ARE ACUTALLY MAILED. BECAUSE OF THIS PRACTICE BY CREDIT CARD COMPANIES THE POST OFFICE SHOULD PROVIDE DATED CANCELLATION STAMPS ON ALL BULK MAIL AND CHARGE THE COMPANIES FOR THE EXTRA COSTS INVOLVED.
I have not had economic damage to date as I pay my credit card bills the same day I receive them. However this situation of very long it's in mail time seems to be wide spread and I sure the credit card companies are making a fortune off late fees that people don't contest.

I just got off the phone with Chase and I'm very disappointed. I have been a card holder since 1999 and have on 1 time had a late payment several years back. This past month I made my July payment online on their website as I always do. This was a payment scheduled for 7/17. I received a call from my bank questioning a check that was clearing my account for $19K and change. I immediatley said I didn't know what it was and to return it (I didn't have funds for it anyway)
After a little research I realized it was the balance on my Chase account. Apparently I selected the wrong choice. I'm still not convinced I did it because I use the site every month and it does give you a confirmation page before finalizing payment. I have used it so often I mistakenly do not print the confirmation page anymore. I'm willing to admit the mistake, so I called Chase and spoke to a female rep who told me I was still within my grace days for the payment so I just needed to resend the payment. However I couldn't do it online and she couldn't accept it because my account was showing pd off when I called. She extended me one more grace day and told me watch online and when my balance appeared go ahead and make the payment. She would make notes.
Today I received a letter dated 7/22 that they have reduced my credit limit. They want me to believe that the payment error has nothing to do with it-Right!. They also cancelled my promotional offer saying I am in default and billed my card on 7/27 (a Sunday) $283 more than the previous month. Increasing my rate from 6.22 to 23%. I called Chase agaian 7/28 to be told that the only thing they could do is offer me a new offer of 5.99 until paid in full which is fine because that is about the program I had, but they could not do anything about the additional $283 in finance charge and $39 return check fee. I asked Quinton to speak with someone else, but he said he was the supervisor and that was the best that could be done. I still insist I was not in default I simply made a button error on their website.
Unsatisfied I called back and spoke to Brandon who said he could negotiate my finance charge and refund me $169. Also stating this is all that can be done. I am still extremely unhappy and this simple human error has cost me $149 more than usual $105 in finance charge to Chase. What a rip off. $149 worth of income for a common error. In addition how nice of them to make the adjustments on Sunday. Maybe the representative the 1st time I called should have offered better advice. I am still following up with Chase with letter of complaint.
Time spent calling Chase 3 times plus an additional $149 since they can't put my account back to the way it was. Also impacted my credit score by reducing my limit!

I have had this credit card for 10-15 years. My credit line is $20,700. In the years 2000, 2001,2003, our company was embebezzled by the corporate manager for about $2 million. I attempted to run this company, but all of the net worth that had been personally contributed by my husband and myself as well as all the income had been stolen. During this period, I had to keep the business afloat by placing many of the expenses on my personal credit cards. The result was my inability to pay the company's bills, however I always paid my personal credit card bills
My FICO score that had previously been in the high 600's is who knows what now. As I have been in the loan business most of my life, I understand the value of credit. I have had to take a job earning $36,000 a year and can barely pay my personal rent let alone these astronomical bills that were put on my credit cards. However, I always make the minimum payment on the due date.
Chase Card Services has increased my finance rate to 28.99%. A minimum payment this month of $669, consists of $471.94. In these hard economic times, how are Americans to maintain their credit with companies like these

I have become entangled in a credit card scam and hope you can make other viewers aware of this mess. In December of 2007 I exceeded my credit limit with Chase (Amazon) credit card Company. A nice lady called to tell me that I was over my limit and that she could take a check by phone. For the overage I had caused and that there would be a by phone convenience fee of $20.00. What she didnt say was that that fee would again put me over the limit which would then start a downhill spiral. Subsequently I was late with my payment to Chase for 90 days, I fully admit I was late with these payments which cased Chase to 1) raise my interest to 28.99% and 2) Close the account. Find below a letter from a Chase employee regarding my account.

During this July 2008: I made three payments of $233.00 on the 7th, $300.00 on the 10th, and $1319.80 on the 13th totaling $1552.80 which reflected the full amount owing. Btw, the billing cycle ended on the 20th. These payments reflected the full amount shown owing on the account when I paid it off online. Now if here is the rub. I understand that interest is paid first and then principle? So on the on the 7th I had paid interest to that date and then paid the remainder on the 10th and 13th of July as shown on online on the billing statement. Now Im receiving a bill for $31.01 for you guessed it; MORE INTEREST! Which Amanda and Blaine from Chase Card Services tell me had accumulated from the 20th of June! Doesnt the rule of 88s apply for early payments? I hope you can help me figure out what Blaine and Amanda from Chase are doing here!

I've been a Chase Visa cardholder since 1994 and have had a total of 11 late payments since that time. The bulk of those late payments happened in the beggining of 2005 when I hadn't received my statments from Chase due to Hurricane Katrina. I have a credit score of 703 and I'm pretty prompt paying my bills.
Other then Hurricane Katrina Chase at times has not mailed me my statements. I think this is a practice they use to encourage late payments by there customers. Chase in 2005 raised my rate to 28.99%. In March of 2007 I again did not receive my Chase statement and explained to them that for some reason Chase is not mailing me my statements. The representative claimed that it had been mailed and there was no way to dispute that.
I have not had a late payment since March 2007 and I'm still saddled with a 28.99% APR. When I spoke with that representative in March I asked her how I can get my APR lower. She said if I didn't have any late payments for 6 months Chase would review my account and consider lowering it. It's been a year and a half and nothing my APR is still at 28.99%.
I called a representative last night who handles there rates and she looked into my account history and tried to lower my rate and she couldn't. She said Chases computer system would not allow her to lower my rate even though she wanted to because I've been a good customer for so long. She didn't even know who to contact about this problem. She explained that they only can make changes to customer accounts if Chases systme allows them to. And she is a manager.
I explained to her that if there is no criteria in to which a customer can lower his/her rate from 28.99% then there is no reason for Chase to review accounts in the first place with the idea of lowering customer rates. They make more money by not lowering customer rates. I would like to file a class action lawsuit against Chase for improper practices and violation of anti-trust laws. I hope there is attorney reviewing this message and is willing to take my case.
It's I pay my bill everymonth and 70% of it is going toward interest.

I gave my Chase credit card number to a merchant on June 19th over the telephone. How was I supposed to know that if I gave them my Chase VISA card number on June 19th, that the merchant could use it again on June 20th? Chase approved $12,400 in transactions that were ABOVE my credit card limit! Why do we have credit limits on credit cards? Why don't we just give everyone a credit card that has no limit?
The transaction took place with a sportsbook website. No wagering was involved. But now, Chase claims that they cannot dispute transactions that were made with gambling merchants? Why not? They were able to approve $12,400 in transactions ABOVE my cards credit limit with this merchant. Chase expects me to make a $12,000 payment on the VISA account just to bring the balance down to the so-called credit limit.
Now, I had to go to one of those debt consultants. I don't have $12,000 to pay Chase. By approving all of these OVERLIMIT transactions, Chase gave the merchant the impression that I am a high-roller. I am no high-roller. I am broke.

On the 2nd day of the month, Chase calculated my interest owed ($180) which exceeded the balance credit available remaining and therefore, caused me to exceed my total credit limit. They charged me a fee of $39 with the intent of increasing my interest rate. The only way that I could have avoided this would have been to calculate the interest on the 1st that would be due on the 2nd. I phoned the company and they waived all the charges and did not increase my interest rate. It's unfortunate that many people are not able to receive a reversal that I received.

Today is July 15, our latest abuse/we-promise-to-close cycle began on May 2. Only the statements, from credit reporting agencies and Chase Visa, continues to show "their almost invisible actions." On June 10, just in time to be reported to other agencies, they CREDITED our CLOSED ACCOUNT $30--the amount of the last "non-bounced" check that they had attempted collections on in May. Then 3 days later, June 13, they debited this $30 credit. Our records show NO CONTACT with any Chase rep after May 27, but customer service claims "calls" from our home in June (beginning Monday June 2, when my records show NEITHER of us were "at home"). Our cat died while we were still fighting this, no human was at our home--do we have talking mice? We have been struggling with Chase problems for over a year and a half, we want a Chase Visa account (and non-functioning insurance) CANCELED. After 15 months, they finally remove the insurance; but until the statements end we do not believe this is out of our lives (17 months and they still are coming).
We should have believed negative reports online or from acquaintances who had quietly mentioned Chase problems. My hubby, who used to think he was smarter and that we were "abler" than those who developed a "chase problem" has sworn off new credit card offers no matter how tempting and I believe that Chase VISA will continue honing their shoddy business practices for as long as they attract enough "fools born every minute" and those who "think they are smarter". The continuing influx of false fees easily pays for a new string of customer service dupes to fleece the foolish.
My husband opened a second credit card, small trial account w/Chase after receiving a mailing shortly before he became ill in 2006 and was hospitalized for several months. We were initially relaxed as his balance was only a few hundred dollars and that would be taken care of by the "insurance" that Chase sold him with the card. Since HUBBY was hospitalized, and often unable to speak to the rep. They neither called our home or answered calls or sent statements.
I had my own cards, and while this was ODD--as long as the insurance paperwork went through I just put it down to Chase privacy and I did not want to take over his account and give up the insurance benefits that he had paid for on it--neither of us were worried as Chase customer service assured us and the forms for his disability continued to arrive for his doctors. We had never used this card insurance before, so initial answers were acceptable. Six months later, a month before he was to complete his treatment/therapy, my husband contacted Chase himself to find out why the monthly medical form had not arrived, and he was concerned about not receiving any statements (a matter he had me request info on for two months prior without any luck). He struggled then asked them to talk to me about this.
Their NEW answers ruined our holidays and almost sent him back to bed: 1. several months earlier the "insurance" had stopped paying but continued sending forms and no one had contacted us; 2. they now asked if he could please "catch up" the $450+ in charges related to this; 3. the previous request was repeated, by their Collections department, in a DAWN CALL a few days later even as a "manager" checked on our problem. After more calls to Chase and their outside insurance company, we were told that copies of the doctor's forms would not help nor would they reinstate his insurance without the late fees being "paid off". Hubby negotiated that amount down from $450 to $150 in a strained voice and I delivered a check to the local bank.
By the time it was settled, we no longer needed the medical forms as he had completed his initial treatment, and, while still disabled, his new goal was to pay off this card and argue about odd charges. CANCELING the card and the mock-credit-card insurance was more difficult than it should have been. This took over a year and several major confrontations that negatively affected our credit ratings. Chase reported payment errors, "bounced" checks (that MY bank never rejected), and late fees even when the faux balance was paid before a due date. This was NOT a "joint account". THEIR ABUSE has increased the interest on MY current personal and business credit cards from a past 3.4-12.3% all the way up to 22.3-35% WITH NO LATE PAYMENTS. I am lucky, I can put away my OLD cards and open NEW lower rate interest cards but even that move lowers my (and our) credit score. We had planned to buy a handicapped-accessible home this year, but with these errors affecting our rates we will stay where we are for a few more years.
The CHASE ERRORS were a learning experience in how the actions of one incompetent company with poor customer service can add stress and/or destroy lives. WE ARE VERY LUCKY. My husband notes that if he did not have me available to fight this for him he might never have been able to end the nightmare or have had another stroke. We lost hundreds of dollars in an ugly learning experience, but are still here with a few resources left. With his health (and voice) damaged by a stroke, it took us over a year to get CHASE to close the account. The ORIGINAL CHASE CARD was cut up and not used, but it was not unusual to spend an afternoon with the manager of the local bank (easier than customer service) working to get the card back nearer to a ZERO or near-zero status. By May 2007, we were assured that soon it would be CLOSED!
Then the collections calls started, at 6:00 and 7:00 AM Central Time; they did not see why we had a problem with this as they are based in another time zone. NOW they wanted "bounced check fees" and "late fees on fees" for a check that had cleared our bank long before the Chase Visa computer stated that our check had been refused-- for a small fee, again less than $100, they would not damage our credit rating any further (they had already reported the issue before notifying either of us by phone, email, or in writing) and would promise to "investigate" the issues--keeping the card open. In a few more weeks, maybe they would CREDIT MY HUSBAND's no-longer closed card and correct the credit report (his) after a few more months, mine. This sent me back to customer service and the bank where no one has a problem with DAWN calls and various managers suggested paying the incorrect late fees EVEN IF THEY WERE WRONG TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY CREDIT RATING.
At this point, I went to my own bank and sought assistance there. Even though I was NOT on this credit card I HAD paid the Chase bill from my bank account (ergo, this 1 of 4 negative reports was correct in their eyes even though my bank said that I had NEVER had a check "bounce"). AFTER this check cleared (before the due date etc), they reported the Chase card (that I do not have) unpaid AND they reported ME for a bouncing check that had never been refused by my bank. After a few more calls from the bank, and a three-way call starting at our home and tying Chase Customer Service to my bank--Chase Visa finally agreed to correct their files and FINALLY allow us to CLOSE the account. Another "check up", a week later kept the card open through May, but authorized a return of an additional $70+ to my hubby after they realized that I had overpaid/charge errors during our extended 15-month "one day we will close this dang card" period.
I should be happy, BUT they only corrected errors to my disabled husband's credit reports. NOW, two months later, they continue to report activity (payments) on a CLOSED, 0-balance account but they will consider, if we want them to keep his account open and file a DISPUTE FORM, submitting a note to correct errors that they have added to MY credit reports; this is not done easily as my name (different from my husband's) and social security number was not associated with the card when it was opened or closed. In two years, nothing has come of any of the complaints that I have made, BUT Chase PROMISES THAT THE DANGED VISA ACCOUNT IS "or may be soon" CLOSED! Is it?
Three months after we were told that the account closed, we continue to receive invoice statements with ZERO DOLLARS DUE after faux adjustments--a credit/debit on a closed account. We owe nothing, but this "action" at CHASE keeps the account active. We have to read each one for accuracy. We want this account CLOSED-CLOSED-CLOSED! How can we go a few months without receiving new 0-BALANCE statements? Today, they AGAIN promised it was closed and the statements would end (soon). If only we still had the ability to believe
There should be a SPAM button that could be attached to a mailbox, then perhaps some could avoid CHASE credit card damage and the related mental and monetary stresses (our mailed invitation came via a local bank after we "opted out" of most offers). Unless you enjoy pain (and have enough cash to pay for it), avoid offers from Chase Visa!

I was told I signed up for PAPERLESS statements. That is when I remembered that many months earlier I was online signing up for that, BUT never clicked the CONFIRM button as I was side tracked and never finished the process of enrolling. Thus, no statements were received thru the mail and I continued to carry the CC in my wallet. I then asked to have the late charges removed to no avail. I always paid my balance off as the bills came due. So I paid them $423 to get current and said I would look into this and call again regarding the late fees.
I then went online and viewed the statement delivery preferences and there are 3 bars at top of page, 1)enrollment- which I had filled out.
2) verify- which I did also. 3)Confirmation- which I did not click or proceed with due to me being side tracked and deciding not to proceed.
The 3 bars for the first 2 items were filled in and colored blue but the 3rd bar (confirmation) was not colored. This led me to believe I had not proceeded with the statement delivery preferences and would continue to receive my statements as usual. I then called back customer service and explained what I believed had happened.
I basically was told by this very rude rep that she was on the phone with me for over 30 mins. and she would do nothing and that is that. I was concerned due to all this my credit would be affected and asked to speak with someone that could verify that I had indeed signed up for paperless statements. I was given a phone # for the IT dept. When I called the number the # was DEAD! I have been livid ever since and have not tried to contact them since and have continued to make my minimum payment to keep things current on a balance of $93.
I want to call them to ask to remove the late fees but have not brought my self to do so. I have been with this card since 2001, and always made my payments as needed and on time. I presented this to rep but they did not care or empathize what so ever. My FICO score for nearly 10 years has been on average of 750, when I checked last month it is now 660. I tried to get a loan on my paid off truck this week and was denied due to my score being below 680. Is there anything I can do about this? I am unemployed, with my savings exhausted, selling my home, and need to utilize my remaining assets while I look for work. But Chase has pulled the rug out from under me.
I even questioned the fact that I never even got a letter saying I was overdue/late on payments! Also after all this I went back in and turned off paper statements, requesting them by US mail. I still have not received a statement. Did it again and am now waiting to see if I receive a statement on this next closing date of 07/16/08. How do I contact IT dept for verification that shows I completed the paperless statement signup? Thanks and no thanks to Chase CC or their rude reps! Fico score reduced by nearly 100 points. Not able to borrow against my present assets till I can sell home and am scrambling to keep up payments and not foreclose on a home with over 100k in equity.

I NEVER have late payments. In the past 2 years every credit card or loan I have has been paid usually one week in advance. I planned on doing that with Chase as well. I've only had this account since May and for my June payment I mailed it one week in advance, like I do will all my loan payments. For some reason it was cashed 2 days after the due date. How is that possible? I will pay them off this month and never use them again.
I worked to 2 years building my credit and they ruined everything for a measley 29.00 late charge profit, which is ridiculous in itself. I will send the next payment registered mail this month because, clearly, they cannot be trusted and they need to be monitered and babysat. I'll need to call on the 20th to make sure they got the payment and actually cashed it like they were supposed to do. I was planning on getting another account with them for a bigger loan when this was paid off and now I need to find another company. The world has become full of shallow people who are ruled by money, and it's really sad.
My interest rate will go from 0% to an enormous interest rate. It's damaged the credit that I worked so hard to get and it wasn't even my fault. It's stressed me out.

The Chase credit card had a promotional offer in May, whereby you could write a check on the account and not pay interest, provided the amount was repaid in full by November. I took advantage of this and wrote a check for $5000. It was not actually interest-free because there was an up-front charge of 3%, but it still seemed a good deal. I always pay my balance in full each month so as to avoid finance charges. In June, I had several transactions on my card in addition to the $5000 check.
At the end of the month, I paid enough to cover all of those transactions plus some of the $5000. Yet I was charged a finance fee on my July statement. I now find that I have to pay finance charges until I reduce the balance to 0, even if I make no further transactions. So much for 'interest-free'. I am actually paying more in charges than I would have done if I had simply spent the $5000 without making use of this promotional offer. When I called to complain, the representative was extremely rude and sarcastic. She literally laughed at me and said, Absolutely. Have a great day. I will now look for some legal remedy.

I received my statement today for the billing period ending July 7, 2008. I noticed immediately that the due date was July 27, 2008 only 20 days from the end of the billing period and only 15 days from today. Allowing for mailing time and, from what I gather a time for the actual processing, that doesnt leave much time, does it? A second page came with the bill. It had Important News as follows: Please note that your payment due date has been changed and is earlier than in previous months. To select a payment due date that works best for you, please call customer service.
I called and asked that my due date be 30 days from the end of the billing period. The woman I spoke to said, We dont allow 30 day grace periods. I told her that I didnt want a grace period, I wanted to pay my bill (or have it arrive) 30 days from the end of the billing period. She insisted that wasnt possible and that only 20 days were allowed. The claim that a customer can select a payment due date that works best obviously isnt true.
Since our conversation was recorded, Id like to ask [them] look up that phone call and tell me that the woman understood what I was asking. I think not. If she did, I would be satisfied and my billing due date would be 30 days hence July 7th or any 7th thereafter. My credit record is far above reproach and I am appalled at the way good customers are treated.
Because I plan when to pay my bills, I use my credit card accordingly so there wouldn't be a need to jockey my savings around once it's time to pay a bill. This new system doesn't allow the consumer to get the most benefit from a savings plan that would gain interest, as opposed to paying interest on credit cards. It's ludicrous. How are Americans supposed to save? There's no such plan anymore. It's all corporate (executive and board) greed.

Chase offers this ID Protection service. Don't use it. It is a racket. They offer it for free and then start charging you $11 a month to do what a credit card company should be doing anyhow - protecting your identity. I tried to call to cancel, when I got through to somebody, I said I wanted to cancel the ID protection service and he replied Ok, give me one minute and I immediately heard on-hold music.
I have now been on hold for 45 minutes, (am on hold as I write this). This happened yesterday, where they kept me on hold until after closing hours. It is their attempt to keep you from canceling their service. Nothing but organized crime.

Both assured me that I had an outstanding payment record and was never late in all those many years however, Chase policy did not allow them to waive ever any late fee, and there was no one else in all of Chase who could waive it either. I closed the account right there and then after I paid the late fee and will never ever again utilize any Chase services.

However, when I tried to make hotel reservervation for August 08, I was told I wasn't entitled to that free night stay and that it was a misunderstanding. The representative offered to close the account for me but would not be able to refund the $30 annual fee that I paid in April 08.

I had a charge on my Chase Credit Card for $59.99 and had no idea who or what it was. At the time the charge appeared on June 25, 2008 my computer was down with a horrible virus and I wasn't using it at all. My husband is 80 years old and never touches the computer. I called Chase and they transferred me to Trilegiant who said they had too many phone calls and could not take my call and hung up.
I then called Chase back and they said they would refund the 59.99 but it would take 30 days and that I had to pay the whole amount this month and then get the credit. I said I would not do that and talked to the manager who finally said I could deduct that amount from the total and just pay the smaller amount. I didn't trust them to give me the credit. I never authorized this and have no idea what it's for or how they got my info to charge me for it.
My husband is 80 with diabetes and had a triple heart bypass. I'm 76, also diabetic and have just had my 3rd back surgery. We're on a fixed income. We would not have enough money to pay our monthly bills if this charge is not taken off and still be able to eat and buy medicine.

Chase offers the 0% balance transfer, on all credit balance. What is in the small print is that the if you miss a couple of payments the interest rate is jumped up to 28.99%. I was deployed to Afghanistan and never received the statements. Additional the credit cards had to be resent to me a second time.
Now my credit rating is ruined, and instead of a lower credit card payment, I can barely pay the interest on the card.

He did this with several credit card companies that day as well. We were upset to receive another statement from Chase showing a balance of $50.74. When my husband tried to talk with someone, no one would talk to him because the card was only in my name.
I called the number on July 7, 2008 to try to find out why we had received another bill. After talking with Alex Roman, a customer service manager, I can tell you that I will NEVER have any dealings with Chase again. I have closed my account and asked to be taken off of the mailing list. We did not have this problem with any of our other credit card companies. Everyone else was very helpful. Now, because I waited to make the call, an additional $20.00 has been added to the other balance, and Alex told me that even when we pay this new balance, Chase will still send us a bill for $1.00. This is a ripoff and I am MAD!
My husband lost his job two years ago, which resulted in our moving to another state where he found another job. We are trying to get out of debt which has resulted from his job loss and our relocation. Chase is making it very difficult for us to pay them off. I was told by a manager that I have to pay the interest on the $30.59 or more interest and late fees will be applied. I closed the account. I don't understand why such high interest is due on the amount I paid. I've been paying interest right along. The person I talked to was not friendly when I told her that I don't understand how credit card companies can get away with charging such rediculous interest rates.
I'm on a fixed income and that's why I got a debt consolidation loan to pay off the credit cards and be rid of their high interest rates. I thought I had Chase taken care of, and now I have to see how to budget in another payment to try to be rid of them. I think they're being unreasonable.

I closed a Chase credit card in Jan 2008. In March 2008, my closed credit card account was billed $20. Initially, when I called Chase customer service, I was told by the rep. that he didn't know how this could happen. He said he would send a dispute form to me, and I would have to complete it and mail it back in order for Chase to review this charge.
After hanging up, I called back because I realized that the address that Chase had on file for me in that account was outdated. I spoke to another customer service rep. She confirmed that my address on file was outdated. I gave her my current address and she said she would have the forms mailed out to my new address. I asked her why I even had to fill out any forms, since the credit card account was already closed when the charge was put through. She said that the first person I spoke to was in the Dispute Department and since he already started the dispute process there was nothing she could do. And that I would just have to fill out the forms.
I did not receive any forms in the mail. Late Tue night 7/1/08, I called Chase to again tell them that my closed credit card account had been charged $20 after it was closed. I spoke to a woman named Sheena; she said she did not have a rep ID number. She told me that the $20 was for a subcription, and that subscriptions are allowed to be charged to a closed credit card. I told her that didn't make any sense that Chase would accept such a charge. The $20 charge was from the Wall Street Journal. I had paid for a one year subscription to their online paper in March 2007. The credit card that I used was the credit card that was closed in Jan 2008.
In March 2008, I paid for another one year subscription to Wall Street Journal online paper under another Chase credit card. I told customer service rep these information. She checked my other Chase credit card and saw that I had indeed paid the Wall Street Journal with my other Chase credit card in March 2008. She said that Chase would not do anything until I complete the dispute forms. I told her that I did not receive any dispute forms in the mail, and that I believe that I should not have to go through so much trouble if a vendor runs a charge through my closed credit card. I asked her why Chase would even accept a charge on a closed account.
I asked her why Chase couldn't pursue the Wall Street Journal to ask for proof that I authorized the charge. She said that the only thing Chase would do is to investigate, after I complete the dispute forms. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She said a supervisor was not available, but even if one was available, the supervisor would not be able to do anything other than tell me that I have to file out the dispute forms. I asked her if the forms could be faxed or e-mailed to me. She said no--they could only be mailed, and it would take 7 to 10 business days to arrive. I told her I did not receive the forms last time. She had no comments. I told her to go ahead and mail the forms to me.
After hanging up, I thought about this again. I should not have to go through this much trouble if a vendor runs a charge through my closed credit card account and Chase chooses to accept that charge. I called Chase back and ask the customer service rep if there was any government agency that regulates credit card practices. I talked to a different rep. She said she couldn't help me. She told me that I should do a google search if I want to know where I should file a complaint.
Specifically, this has caused me about 2 hours time speaking to customer service, so far. I will still need to fill out the dispute forms (if I receive them) and follow up with Chase. But more importantly, this current process in which Chase places the responsibility on a customer to clear a charge that was made to a closed credit card account is ethically wrong. I don't believe it should be legal--if it is. Furthermore, Chase has constructed this process to make it as burdensome as possible for the customer.
If Chase is reasonably assured of a customer's identity to be providing confidential customer information on the phone, why does the customer need to sign a dispute complaint before Chase takes any action? Why can't a multi-billion dollar company like Chase fax or e-mail dispute complaints to customers to expedite this process? Why can't a dispute complaint be filed directly from the customer's online access to the account?--it appears that Chase makes it easy for the customer to pay his bill online, but won't provide any capability for the customer to file a complaint online.
I think this is a ridiculous process that Chase has set up because they think they can get away with it. I want them to: 1) not accept charges on closed credit card account 2) if Chase chooses to accept a charge on a closed credit card account, Chase has to eat the charge or resolve with the vendor; the customer should not even be involved 3) Chase needs to make it easier for a customer to dispute a charge. If Chase has enough techincal expertise to construct an online payment system, they should be able to provide an online dispute system.

I recently went on a trip overseas and my card was disabled after I tried to make a cash withdrawal. Their fraud reporting is only done by telephone and since I was overseas, I was by definition not near my phone. Since I did not inform them that I was overseas, and since I did not call them, my card was disabled. All the automatic bill payments that went to my card were rejected while I was overseas. I have asked, and apparently a number of people have asked for e-mail notices and not phone calls.
As a computer programmer and system administrator, I know for a fact that automated voice is significantly more difficult to program and support than e-mail. I don't understand why they cannot make that either an option or an all out change. Even though I was overseas, I was able to read my e-mails. This fraud service is a negative service, they charge for it and it does nothing because the fraud department and the customer service department seem to be unrelated. I called customer service about this, they forwarded me to the fraud department, who then said that they cannot do anything and that I should call customer service.
When I called them back, I was told that I should be speaking with the fraud department, and before they were able to forward me again, I asked for a Supervisor. This supervisor, who I thought was rude because I wanted to speak to someone in IT, he said that nothing is going to change so I should stop insisting. He did, however, said that I should call them that I am traveling and they would flag my account as likely to have unusual activity and they would let that through. For this time around, he would send me a letter that I could send to any credit agencies to get my record corrected since it was Chase that suspended my account and not by any fault of myself.
I guess that doing this might have me flagged as a problem customer, and thus I don't know until the next time I check on-line. They also have a problem with their on-line system that you can only have one computer registered to the on-line site. Thus if I want to do anything from the office, I can't do it from home and vice versa. They seem to be unable to let you access from more than one computer.
I return home to late notices on a number of bills that I thought were still being paid. Luckily none of the 5 bills that are regularly paid via credit card had reported me to a credit agency.

I agreed to the payment plan. However, 2 weeks after the 1st payment was made, they started calling our house. They call at 8:00 am, they call at 9:00 pm. Some days I have 17 or 18 calls from them on my caller ID. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is either. Today, (Sunday), they started calling at 8:15 am. They're driving us nuts. We haven't used the card in over a year, but at 31% interest, we go over the limit every month. We've called and asked them to lower our interest rates, but they refuse.
I've threatened them with a law suit for harassment, but it doesn't even phase them.
Since June 25th, I have 32 calls logged from them, including 3 already this morning and it's only 10:00am.
If I had the money, I would send it to them, along with the card cut up in little tiny pieces. I will never do any kind of business with Chase again.
Beyond the constant harassment. The economic hardship is beyond repair. We make $350 payments to them every month, but because of the interest rate, the balance only continues to go up.

A year or two ago I had Lasik performed on my eyes. The institution performing the surgery was offering a 0% financing option through Unicorn Financial, so I opted to go with them. My bank offers an online bill paying service, so I set the Unicorn payments up online to reoccur each month well in advance of the required due date.
At the beginning of this year, I started to receive letters in the mail announcing the fact that my account was no longer being handled by Unicorn, but instead by Chase Health Advanced starting in April. Assuming that my account information was going to change, I deleted that account information from my online automatic bill payment service. Unfortunately, I failed to properly recreate the account with the new Chase information, and as a result my April installment was never received.
On Saturday, May 3rd, I received my April statement (which I opened on Sun May 4th), showing an outstanding balance for the previous month of March. Shocked, I quickly went online, rectified the account information, and scheduled an electronic payment for the previous month, along with the present month's charges, and a $39.00 late fee, which was to be sent out the next business day (May 5th). Being the statement said that I had until the 28th to may these payments, and that there was nothing annotated anywhere that the payment was due immediately, I assumed that the only penalty for my administrative mistake was the $39.00 late fee. On May 14th, however, I received a letter simply informing me that my promotional program of 0% financing had been terminated due to a delinquent account.
Perplexed as to why they did not receive my payment that was dispersed on the 5th, I called them the next day. Much to my dismay, the CS rep tells me that my promotion was cancelled on the 10th, they processed my check on the 12th, and sent the cancellation notice to me on the 13th, which I received on the 14th. It seemed really odd that I received their cancellation notice in 1 day, but yet they did not get my check for seven days, until she told me the amount that I now owed in back interest: $1200! Of course I challenged the validity of the cancellation, due to the fact that the only penalty reflected in my statement was for $39.00, that a termination date of the 10th of May was not disclosed, that I was mislead in believing that I had until the 28th to rectify the situation, and the fact that despite this clouding I still sent a check for the full amount next business day. This, coupled with the fact that it occurred during the first month in which changes to my account had taken place, and the fact that all my previous payments over the past two years were in full and early, should have been enough to see that it was an honest mistake, which I tried to resolve in a timely fashion. Despite this evidence, all the CS reps kept reiterating was that it was not their fault? and that I was now responsible for an additional $1200. After asking to escalate the issue, they agreed to perform an investigation of the account. After a day or two, I contacted them again to get the results, which of course yielded that they were not at fault, and that I still owed the money. I again asked that it be escalated, at which point I was put in touch with Cindy Grubmeyer, whom I believe to be the CS manager.
After relaying my case to her, and pointing out how I sent my check next business day after being made aware of my outstanding balance, despite the deceptiveness of my statement, she again reiterated that it was not their fault. Although obstinate, she did agree to perform another payment investigation. I called again this morning to check on the status of the inquiry, and although she was not in the office to take my call, the CS rep said that the notes on my account were that it was not Chases fault that my payment was received / processed after the supposed grace period, and that I still owed the back interest.
Now, I understand that it was my fault that my March payment was initially late, which is why I have no problems paying an additional $39.00 for the month of March, but to then deceive me in believing that I had almost a month to make the payments, hide the fact that they were going to cancel my promotion if they did not receive payments by the 10th, conveniently not process my payment that was mailed out on the 5th until the 12th (especially after I received their cancellation notice in one day), then blindly adding an additional $1200 in back interest, is just shady. Regardless of how this transpires, not only am I going to cancel my Chase credit card and sever all future ties with the company, but Im also going to encourage all my friends and family to do the same.

The CHASE Freedom Credit Card is a scam, re: its reward point system. One receives a base-rate 1% back on all purchases, and a higher amount on your top three spending categories as long as they are within preset categories such as telecommunications or groceries. On the surface this looks great--cable, telephone, groceries, are all things that cost a lot of money. BUT BEWARE: their trick is that they will only recognize a company as say, telecommunications if the company itself recognizes it as such. They claim there is no recourse for changing the label on their end.
For example, I get my cable from COMCAST--a very well known cable provider. They insist that since Comcast doesn't declare themselves as telecommunications I can't get the reward points. Even the helpful telephone support folks admit that Comcast is obviously a cable provider, but they won't help. Anyone thinking of using CHASE credit cards such as the Freedom Rewards or cards like that should make sure to check in ADVANCE if the places you shop will be recognized. You'll in in for a surprise otherwise!
Reward points are above-and-beyond. But while there may be no economic damages per se, this is definitely tricky advertising on their part!

I recently applied for and was issued a Marriott Rewards Credit Card from Chase. With the card came a convenience check that was supposed to be good up to $2,800. There was no number to call to get authorization before using the check. There was no warning the check would not be paid unless I received a phone call from Chase and confirmed that I did indeed deposit the check. I wrote the check for $2,000 and deposited it without giving it a second thought. A week later, when I looked at my checking account balance online, I saw it was over $1,300 in the red and was shocked. After reviewing the detail, it appeared Chase declined to pay the check.
I called Chase and was told they called my home and were unable to reach me, to confirm I used the check. Therefore, they declined the check, which of course messed up my checking account and probably will result in a penalty to me from my bank. Chase confirmed the convenience check came with no authorization number to call and no warning they would decline the item if they were unable to reach me.
This seems outrageous to me. I do not answer telephone calls at home from toll-free numbers, especially without being told in advance that I would receive such a call. When a company as big as Chase sends me a convenience check and I deposit it, I depend on the check being paid without giving it a second thought. Then, out of nowhere, a large negative balance shows up in my checking account, and checks I've written are declined for insufficient funds. I have to scramble to get the $2,000 back into my account, and I probably will be charged a penalty by my bank.

I asked to close the account and for the total balance if i were to pay the entire balance today, they closed the account and told me a balance of $7240. I called back 2 days later to check the amount. We had an email account with them and I paid it off. one month later I start getting phone calls that i am past due. I spend hours calling them and getting transferred around. they tell me a bunch of crap but said they would wave the 39$ late fee. I say fine send me a statement showing the 39$ taken off and my final bill of $165 and i will pay. One month goes by, no statement, and I get another phone call saying I am past due you need to pay $295. This time I gave them checking account information so they could withdraw. I am still asking for a final statement and apparently there will be additional charges coming.
I have delt with several credit card companies, payed them off, opened new ones, etc, never had any problems. I have a very good credit rating and I always pay my bills. Chase is purposely not giving a finial balance so that they can catch people with finance charges, late fees, and interest that rolls over from the above stated charges. There should be a law or something that when a debtor requests the total amount of his debt, that the creditor must give the pay-off amount, because apparently with Chase the total balance is not the total. These guys are flat-out crooks.

I was recently late on my credit card payment and then i realized that it was becoming difficult to make the payment. I received a letter from Chase encouraging me to call to try to work out a plan that would help me. I called and was treated with utmost disrespect by two of the customer Service reps who both hung up on me because i was asking too many questions. Chase Mastercard has steadily increased my APR on my account and charged me several late fees of $39.00 even if i am one day late.
There were even times when late fees were charged to my account but i was not late. I would have to call and only when i fax them the info from my bank that i made the payment on time would they wave the fees. The representatives are real bullies who do nothing to help customers and threatened me with ruining my credit if i did not make a payment. I offered to make a smaller payment for the next two months but they totally refused and told me that they would close my account permanently if they had to do that.
They even tried to bully me into getting my bank account routing number so they can withdraw the payment from my account. In my opinion, this is taking advantage of someone who they feel is defenseless. Why tell me to call and then humiliate me in this manner not to mention that they are the reason my account balance is so high because of the escalating interest rate and the late fees. This practice needs to stop. It is ruining people's lives.
I was lured into transfering my balance over to Chase and then they increased my interest rate after a few months. I asked for a rate reduction but each time they have an excuse why they cannot do it. This is causing financial hardship for me and they are threatening to ruin my credit. My payment has escalated to almost $600.00 monthly and most of it goes towards interest.

5/22/08 I have a credit card issued from Chase Bank. It's an Amazon.com card. I have a credit line of $6000. They charged me *$178. transaction fee. They issued me checks to write at a 3.9% fee for life. I wrote a check to Toyota for the balance I needed to buy a new car *$5960.00. [Apparently I applied for a credit card online that offered a free DVD player. Do not recall who issued the card and in fact don't even remember much else except the free DVD player] Chase bank was the source of this offer.
They did a credit report and sent me a letter stating that I had another Chase card and they were deducting $1000. off my $6,000. They would issue me another card for $1000. I received the $1000. card, never activated. In the meantime I received a letter from Chase, stating that I was over-limit and they charged me $39. This also nullified my 3.9% finance charge which now became 24.24%. I write them a letter on 4/24/08, stating the facts and returning to them the $1,000. NEW credit card they sent me. I asked them to take back the card and return everything to the way it was. No-one called me.
Today I called to see what they would say. The first person I talk with, Bill returns my $39.00 fee, moves the $1.000 back to my card, returning it to $6,000. and cancels out the NEW CARD for the $1,000. that I never activated. I ask him at the end if my 3.9% will be returned, he says he cannot answer that question. He now transfers me to the promotions dept. Linda Rodriquez was NOT very sympathetic and refused to do anything about it. I say this is YOUR fault and I think it's deceptive banking practices. She says I'm sorry that you feel that way. I say I will pay off this card and get rid of it.
Well I lost $178.00 fee, I lost 2 months and probably will be 3 mos. before I get this all accomplished of the higher 24.24% interest rate vs 3.9% and I don't know what that figure is. I have been upset over this since it first happened and wondered if they'd done it on purpose? After all is said and done, I do feel that they saw the opportunity to make more money. Any other bank would have refused to give a second card or would have called to discuss this before they took it upon themselves to do all of this.

I have an account with Chase, where I've been making automated payments from my bank account, well over the minimum payment for a number of years. This month I realized that I was being charged a $35 late payment fee, that went back to February. Calls to Chase's customer service confirmed that they altered the billing cycle, just enough that my payments were arriving a day late. I have $160 in late payment fees that they have refused to reimburse. They claim that this change was communicated in a statement mailed to me in February. I contend that they have communicated the billing date over 60 times (5 years x 12 months), and that this one time communication in February was part of a calculated scheme to harvest fees from automatic payment customers like myself.
A google search identified several additional victims of this scam. No other business operates this way. If businesses en masse arbitrarily changed their due dates, it would undermine the entire electronic banking business process. A google search on billing cycle changes revealed only one industry that was engaged in billing cycle changes. This change was in the utilities industry, triggered by the adoption of enhanced and more regular meter reading practices by several municpalities. In this case, there was a clear benefit to the consumer - more reqular billing - i.e. consistenly 30 days, instead of a wide variation in billing cycles based on when meters were read. Again, in this instance, the change was communicated by press releases, updates to web sites, and I assume by clear communication to their consumers. In addition, the change was applied consistently across their entire consumer base, not just a targeted minority.
While the individual damages are not large, I believe that the class impacted by this business practice could be substantial, and easily identifiable through a discovery process. Either that, or Chase would be found in violation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act requiring detailed documentation of computer system changes.

I made the mistake of using one of the convenience checks and two problems arose: 1)The transaction fee is uncapped, which is the first time in over 15 years the fee was uncapped. Normally is 3% or $100. 2) Becaue the transaction fee was uncapped it caused my account to go over limit by $20 and they charged me an over limit fee of $39.
I called to dispute the over limit fee and was told that it was bank policy that even if you are over $1 due to a fee they charge or interest they will charge the fee and not remove it. I will be paying the account off within the next 15 days and closing the account. I find it ironic that their marketing material tells you to access you account up to the limit and if you do so not only will you be charged the uncapped fee, but a late charge, and your promotional APR will be revoked because you are overlimit.
I am paying $500 in additional transactions fee which is exorbanent and I also have to pay $39 which is a result of their high fee which is not clearly stated.

Chase, unlike any other credit card issuer I have ever dealt with, will let you go OVER YOUR CREDIT LIMIT when doing a BALANCE TRANSFER. Instead of transferring the balance of your credit limit minus the balance transfer fee, Chase will transfer up to your credit limit and then charge your BT fee on top of that AND THEN charge you an OVERLIMIT FEE. (I can't believe that's even legal.)
The most disturbing thing is that when you call to request a courtesy, one-time reversal of the fee, they refuse. They outright refuse. The $39 in additional revenue is more important to Chase than having satisfied customers and rewarding them for their loyalty. Come on, guys. It's a one-time reversal. Every good credit card company does it with a smile on their face. The 2nd most disturbing thing is that they report this information to the credit bureaus!! BEWARE of Chase!
My otherwise perfect credit now has a negative notation indicating that I have gone over my credit limit.

I had my Chase amazon.com credit card June 2007. When I got the card, I called a number coming along with the credit card. - Maybe this call led to my purchase of the ID proection, but maybe not - I don't remember exactly. But very soon (June or July) when I found the ID protection charge of $11.99 on my statement, I called them to cancel the service immediately, because I would just stay in US for 1 year and I don't need to build my credit history.
However, about 3 months ago (Feb. or Mar.2008), I found Chase has been billing me $11.99 for the ID protection since July 2007. I immediately called the number 800 362 8182(ID protection department in chase) to cancel the membership again. Yesterday(May 11, 2008), I found the bill is still on my bill statement. I called chase's customer service again to 1) cancel the membership again; 2) refund all the payment. But they told me that they don't have my records of canceling the service and only agree to refund me for two months. They said it's my fault that I didn't closely watch my statement.
Actually I seldom use this credit card. I trusted Chase and its service in the past and didn't know they would do so badly. I have no reason to order such a service for two reasons. 1)I will go back to my home country next month and don't need to build my credit history in US. 2) I seldom used this credit card. For about 3 or 4 months out of my past 11 months using this card, the only bill is the ID protection. I clearly remember I called Chase last July(or June), because I even joked to my friends that Chase was a bad sales to sell to a wrong customer. I also clearly remember I called Chase in Feb. or Mar. 2008, because I was already angry that time. I don't check my bank statement often also for several reasons. 1) I trust chase. 2) I seldom use that credit card. The payment each month is too small for me to get alert. 3) I set up an automatic payment from my bank account to this credit card.
they charged me $11.99 every month from July 2007 - April 2008, totally 10 months. So it's $119.9 totally.

It turns out that the Cash Advance cannot be paid off, but only is paid after all other items are paid.
So now I am stuck paying interest on this until I pay off the balance in full, including the transfer. I requested this charge be properly re-assigned to purchases and they say they cannot do so. Mind you the amount is small, but I am angry over the concept. Looks like a nice way to collect some interest from someone who takes advantage of the transfer offer. Watch out!

When i started to use my card for the i kept taking out cash from the atm from my savings account. They charged me 10 dollers for every 20 withdral i took out and made the bill impossible to pay. There was about 120 dollers of transaction fees.I than called them up and asked them why did they charge me all this money for when they said they wouldnt. They told me they never said it and i have to pay for it no matter what. I told them unless they drop those fees im not going to pay for anything, but they never did it.
Right now my credit is being destroyed because the bank lied to me or made a mistake and i have to suffer for it. The bill went up more than 1800 dollers which i origanlly owed them about 900 because all the late fees and overlimit fees. I tried to ask them to make a deal with me for 3 months but they said no. In the end they made a deal with me and i agreed for 350 dollers for 3 months.
I than asked my father after i made the deal because he was overseas so i had to wait. I thought he would be ok with it but he wasnt after that i called them up and asked them if they can lower it down and pay for extra months. For example, 50 dollers a month every month till it reaches 1050 which they required. They said no so i cancled the deal and we are still at war with eachother.
We than found out that they charged my fathersa account without his permission for 350 dollers twice and now going for the 3rd and last payment. They still went with the deal after i told them to cancle and took 350 dollers from my fathers account. Now my father has to go to his bank to tell them to get his money back which my bank took from him(credit card). These past 3-4 months, maybe more. They no as a student i couldnt pay what they were asking for and it was there fault for the lie or false information they gave me which is not my fault. They are taking advantage of begginer student like me to make themselves money and thats not right.
My credit is being destroyed. Charging my 1850 dollers before the deal. Took money from my fathers account without asking him making it harder on him to pay his own bills. Even adding more stress on my life that i have from my college and work. Still have to pay my tuition and they are making it even impossible for me to so.

They said if we came into to any trouble to let them know and they would help. around may my finacial situation changed and things were getting harder. i called each one up asking for help explaining my situation. they wanted us to answer all these questions to see if we needed help. they went through all my monthly expenses. the final answer was sorry your credit has been excellent and you never have defaulted so we cant help till you mess up. to this day this does not make sense. Why in the world would you want me to mess up my credit if you can help me with a solution.
After this happened they started to increase my interest even though i still paid and was on time. i asked why they said because from what i said we were becoming a high risk. they froze accounts from being charged. interest rates jumped to 15% then continued to rise. i still was begging for help and they ALL continued to deny our requests. i even try to refinance to get them out the way but the market was no good and i wasnt going to mess up the great loan i have with my home. that has never once been late in the eight years I've owned my home. around august i told them i could do no more. they started saying to borrow money or take it against my home. i said give me a better deal for either no interest or lower. i explained what i could pay each one. they refused. that is when i let them go one by one because i could not pay what they wanted.
We even tried to do a credit transfer which they approved. but when they did that they never raised the amount on the card and were wanting over $2,000 up front with a over the limit fee. she said sorry we will continue to charge you late fees and over the limit. this wasnt helping me. we even had a fraud incident which chase said they could not release any records because we owed them money never solved that one this was also from chase. now began the phone calls, the harrassments at work. telling co-workers our business when they picked up the phones. i finally had to change my house phone number.
Now that the cards are out of the main dept. and in collections they said they still have the right to charge me interest. i will never bring them down because they are still climbing. now they want the money in full or some riduculous monthly payment. they are threatning garnishment. my debt went from $19,000 for one to 27,000 another has gone from 10,000 to 17,400 i owe so much its so depressing. my mother in law helped me make a deal and paid off two cards for $15,000. i still have five more. she cant help with anymore. i am so stuck. i am paying chase two cards for my husband at $120 because we received a supeona for garnishment they were placing in court. i wrote back to their attorneys stating i will give $120 to them each month and please to stop charging me interest.
When i called them to make my settlement for my card they had a higher amount i asked why she said thats because we are still charging interest. chase never sends me statements to show my payments are being applied the the only thing i have is my letters and checks. I DO NOT HAVE A STATEMENT. this is such a shame, i dont know how we can get rid of this debt if i cant even lower it.
as of now our credit is almost void we still own a house our payments are always on time never ever late our current cards are on time no lateness either. our way of life is little harder not being able to apply for credit when necessary or emergency such as refinancing to try and clear some this debt . physically it was emotionally draining dealing with all the calls and harassment everyday trying to figure out how your going to get back on your feet but finding no true answer now.

Well Chase has been calling me 6 to 8 times a day leaving my personel information of my account on my answering machine. The are leaving how many days and how much my balance is with them. I know by law they can not leave that much information on the phone. Everday and on the weekends they continue to call and harrass me and leaving messages about the pmt. Yes, I know i owe the money and will pay the money back.
When I talked with Jimmy on 5/1 i advise him of me being unemployment and I am trying to pay my debet. He suggested that I could pay $237 by next Friday th 9th and they will not report me 90 days. I asked him how mandy days am i now. He said 47 days past due. I said let me try and get some money together to make this $237.00. I explain to him i was going thru Elite Financial Services to put all my bills together and make one payment and get it settle.. He said he understood and they said the way it works it takes 45 days to get an proposal thru.. I said Im very well aware of this.. I asked him to please put this on my account so the next person could see the notes.
Well this morning 5/2/08 I got another phone call and I did not get the gentleman's name but I advise him I spoke with a Jimmy in regards of this. He said there is no notes saying I spoke with anyone at all. I said well I did speak with you Jimmy. I told him the same thing I'm going to tell you.. I advise you right at this moment not to call this number again. I said this is harrasment on chase part. He said were not trying to harrass I said I understand that but the company is harrassing me. He said the number is on the auto dialer I understand that too but you dont keep calling a person 6 to 8 times a day. They have also called before 8 am. I have kept the messages from Chase.

This card pays 5% back on puchases at Gas, Grocery and Drug Stores. I have never bought one penny on this card of anything other than gas. Yet very often my statement comes with points earned at stores other than Gas, Grocery, and Drug Stores. I call and they tell me that they alone determine if a business meets their criteria. The statement never indicates which charges have been denied. I call and after many minutes they finally tell me that such and such gas station does not meet their critieria. I ask what that criteria is. They cannot tell me. They remind me that they can change their mind at any time.
On this current statement, a Valero Gas station which appears on the statement as USAVE MART GLADE SPRINGS VA was denied the %5 points. Since September of '07 this store has appeared on my card 4 times with no problem. All of a sudden on this statement, it was denied the 5% discount. The only explanation I received was that they can change their mind at any time. I think this is TOTALLY UNFAIR! Please, can't we make people play fair? I thought we learned that in kindergarten!
I am receiving a 1% discount when I was promised 5% on some purchases.

I made the mistake of using a convenience check from my credit card company (Chase). After the check posted I noticed a $150 Transaction Fee. I asked myself why I would have a transaction fee. I remember looking for a catch like that before using the check and felt confident that there would be none. I assumed that it was an offer to longstanding customers. So I called Chase customer service. They told me that it was clearly stated that there was a transaction fee for the convenience check. We (a Chase rep. and I) looked over it together and this is what we found. On the page with the checks, there are a few bullet points (big font and clear) that list the fiscal advantages of the checks (e.g. 0.00% Fixed APR for a limited duration). Below the bullets there are some very small footnotes marked with a asterisks. One says Check must be posted to your account by the post/void date on the check(s). The other says See 'Important Information' section for more details. I looked for the Important Information section in my paperwork. I kept looking... and looking... and looking. I never found this section.
After about 5 minutes of being on hold, the rep told me where the information actually was. It was in a section called Explanation of Finance Charges. I pointed out that nowhere in this section did it say Important Information and if I was supposed to look at Explanation of Finance Charges then why didn't the convenience check offer say See Explanation of Finance Charges section. I think this is ambiguous at best and seemingly intentionally misleading. The account supervisor agreed that it wasn't really clear, but said that if I looked hard enough I would have found the fine print for the convenience check. Therefore, he would not waive the transaction fee.
As of now, I am closing my account with Chase and hope that consumer affairs will look into this questionable, at best, business practice. Additionally, I would like to note that when I requested to close my account, the rep. told me that I should wait for the following reason. I was told that I needed to have United Airlines Mileage Plus transfer the miles from Visa before I closed my account otherwise I would forfeit the miles. I called United and they confirmed that this was absolutely untrue. My miles transfer automatically each month. I feel that I was AGAIN intentionally misled to delay me from canceling my account.

I know, however the ceo of chase had agreed in march to no longer use a persons credit report to raise the APR (annual percentage rate). After i told her i was aware of this i was then told it was because of a late payment.
The only reason the payment was late was because they, without our permission stopped sending us a paper bill. The supervisor tracy davis suggested i was not told that the apr went up because of our credit report. she was extremely rude. Chase is one the the worst companies i have ever dealt with.

I acknowledge that I placed my accounts on hold via the insurance program they offered while unemployeed. When I resumed working, I immediately began making payments. I asked to have my date changed to help me be able to pay on time - I was told the only way the date could be changed is if I agreed to a rate hike on all 3 accounts to 29.9%. Because I was not able to pay on time with the existing due date, I agreed. I was told that if I paid on time for 1 year, I could request that my interest rate be lowered.
Since then all I get when I call is stonewalled. I am very diligent in at least paying the minimum on time. All I have asked for is to get a lower rate. I recently paid off $10,000. I called and requested that my interest rates be lowered based upon lowering my debt with them. I was told that there was no way to lower my interest rate. They said they did not care if I cancelled my accounts. To add insult to injury, I was changed interest on the amount which was paid off.
The high interest rate has seriously contributed to my in ability to recover from the financial hole created by my unemployment. Only by paying off, then re-financing my vehicle have I been able to make any gain on my Chase debt.

This is a stealth Money leak program, and since I do not used the card often, there's absolutely NO VALUE, in their Prestige program for me, anyway. We need to introduce REGULATION LAWS THAT KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING.
I suggest that we compose a law that states that if ANY upgrade or charge is offered, the customer must CLEARLY OPT-IN for it, not be required to OPT-OUT. When I called Chase Bank all I got were service people in India and they were less than helpful. No one could give me an answer of what this charge was for and why I hadn't received any statements in the mail informing me of this debt. The next day I called to cancel my other card and the service person forwarded me to a rep and she was very concerned why I was cancelling. I told her my story and she revealed to me that I had a charge of $79 in 2007 and the remainder of the charge was late fees. I told her I never received any statements and wanted to get a statement. She said she couldn't send me one, (since my sccount was now closed) but they would file a report for investigation by Chase of my past due debt. It would take 30-90 days, and I should receive a letter letting me know the outcome.

I mailed both payments as early as possible on April 2, 2008. On April 2, 2008 I finally got online and thought I had made minimum payment until the final screen said I had made a payment in an amount far exceeding what was in my checking account. I called Customer service and they canceled the high amount and entered the correct minimum payment.
While on the line I explained how my statements had arrived too late to mail the payment. I was told they were mailed on the tenth of March and I should call my post office. Her only other comment was I could go paperless online. I talked with a post office employee who said since the statements have no post mark it is hard to prove when they were actually mailed, but doubted it was really on the tenth. I agreed, and the fact that all my other mail seems on time and only my Chase statements are repeatedly late. I feel like it is their way to try to force me into being late so the can charge me more. My solution was to do a balance transfer to my Discover card which consistently arrives 30 days before the payment due date. Most of these problem cards were another name when I obtained them. It was after they merged into Chase that I began having the problems.

NOW a high-pressure sales type representative answers the phone, confirms your information and then tries to get you to enroll in a credit protection plan (in case of illness or injury) and other services. I didn't receive a bill for months and finally learned about the situation from one of my other credit card providers, Bank of America. I never received any online bills or phone calls from the Chase. So, phone calls and e-mails do not involve paper right? I am so disappointed that they have such a lack of concern for the customer and have the inability to help. After Paying off the balance and having several dead end phone calls with Chase, I received an e-mail stating that my account is now available for online banking. This e-mail came four months later! I fell into hard times like many many Americans recently, and my Chase card went past due and delinquent. I'll state up front that my total credit limit on this card is $300, and I think at the highest point of delinquency it had a $310.72 balance from late fees and fines. I, unfortunately, didn't do the right thing in working with them to resolve my issues. This is the first time I've ever found myself in this type of situation, and so I didn't know (I do now!) that most places will try to work with you on your balances if you at least call and discuss things with them. Anyhow, recently things have started to look up for me and my business, so I took the balance and paid it off on Friday Dec. 28, '07. Of course I had to make a secondary payment of about $7 in January to cover some of the interest that had accrued that wasn't listed on the balance previously...but hey... it's paid off now!
Nice. So here it is March, and a friend's grandfather passes away and I take the widow into a nice furniture shop to purchase a nice flag case for the flag from his military funeral. DENIED... WTF! Boy was I irate. I paid for it on another card and went home and called Chase. THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT! Even worse, they never told me (or not sufficiently), and the rep on the phone said they didn't have to (which I KNOW is not true). He said if there was notification it would have been at the bottom of my last statement. Well who looks at their bills once they are paid off? You know what REALLY REALLY irked me about the situation? If I login to my account online it shows I have $300 of available credit. How can they tell me I have $300 of available credit and then tell me my account has been closed? Apparently, Chase closed my account because I am too big of a 'risk' for them...a $300 risk. What a slap in the face, too. Here I am trying to do the right thing and pay off the debt that I owe to everyone, and Chase close the account on me.

Suddenly the payment jumped to $150.00, and they called my son constantly saying he is late, when I know they just cashed our check not three days before. My son has not used this card since last Aug/Sept. The only thing that goes on monthly is a $15.00 credit card fraud insurance charge. My husband has paid my son's bill faithfully every month.
We are paying out an extra $600.00 a month now trying to pay for his next semester of college. Having this payment jump from $69.00 to $150.00 is going to make it very hard to make ends meet. This one step by them makes it look like I am using 90% of my credit thereby reducing my credit score and changing my debt-to-credit ratio. The next month a letter arrives saying I am more of a credit risk and guess what, my interest rate is going up to 29.9%. That's right (and don't forget the compound daily part of the equation).
