We’ve had good movers and poor movers, and the group we had from National Van Lines was absolutely in the poor camp. They aren’t the worst movers ever (North American Van Lines, you still own that title in my book), but they are in the running for second place. The move: Virginia to Iowa. The promises and lies: “You’ll be the only load on our truck.” “You’re big, so you’ll be the first and only load.” “Only load.” Multiple times said by the driver. A lie each and every time. We were not the only load, the driver went and picked up another. And delivered it before ours (for the second lie).
“Guarantee delivery on Monday.” “Promise, we are headed to Iowa first.” “You’ll be the first stop, guarantee.” “We’ll be unloading you Monday, I promise”. Nope. Went to Michigan first, and then finally delivered here on Wednesday. Can’t be on time. More broken promises… “Be there at 8 am to unload.” The truck was only 10 minutes late, but the unloading crew was more than an hour late. Once they arrive, they still spend another half hour in their van, making phone calls, etc., before they open the door of the truck and unload the first item. 8 am unload time, first piece off the truck, 9:30 am.
“If we take it apart, we put it back together.” Nope. Another lie. They took our bicycles apart (after we asked them not to), and then unloaded them in pieces, and that was that. No assembly. Guaranteed price? Not so much. The driver of this truck decided he could not get down our driveway, and so… extra charge (and delay), to rent a U-Haul truck to take things from our house and drive it down an asphalt driveway to the street, about 250’, and load into the big truck. Oddly enough, just 18 months before, another driver from another company was perfectly able to get his exact same size tractor/trailer down our driveway to unload. The difference, apparently, is that if they cannot get to your house to LOAD, you pay for the extra. If they can’t get to your house to unload, THEY pay the extra. So, there’s no incentive for them to try to get close to load, and plenty of incentive to do whatever it takes to get close enough to unload.
The packers were horrible. Honestly, just horrible. It was a constant fight to try to get them to listen to us, to do anything right. I know that we aren’t “professional” packers, but I myself have moved almost 20 times in my life, and I learned a thing or ten about the process to know what works, what doesn’t. Problems with the packers: Room marked “DO NOT PACK. ALL ITEMS STAY.” We put our suitcases and clothes for the trip in this room, and items for the first few days at the new house. Packers went into the room, took things OUT OF OUR SUITCASES, and packed them.
We marked the towels in the bathroom with “DO NOT PACK”, and they packed them… leaving us no towels for showers after loading day. However, they failed to pack anything else in the bathroom, leaving that for us to find on our final walk through. Pack the towels clearly marked to not pack, but leave an entire bathroom of items.
We set aside items in a certain area to leave behind. Told the driver “don’t take anything in this corner”. Marked it “do not pack”. Guess what got unloaded at the new house? Some of those items. Specifically asked the driver to speak with the loading crew, to NOT turn items upside down. Pointed out that somethings we had packed should NOT be turned upside down. Pointed out that I had a lot of storage cubes with drawers, the drawers full of tiny parts, beads, pieces, craft items, etc., and that if they moved them right side up, all would be fine. Multiple times, I see the loaders grab a cube, lay it on the back, wrap a blanket around it, turn it upside down, roll it, etc..
Six months later in Iowa, I am still sorting things out, and putting screws, bolts, nuts, parts and pieces back into the proper bins again. We have a hand made dollhouse, we specifically asked them to be careful with it, to keep it upright, to NOT turn it upside down, and when I see it in the truck… it’s upside down. Wooden sewing box, full of needles and pins and thread and ribbons, with obvious top (handles and drawers) and bottom (legs/feet) and they lay it on the side, blanket wrap it by rolling it upside down multiple times. It’s a mess.
The driver continued to tell me to “Just tell the guys what you need”, and yet, when I did… they did nothing. I could ask them to move this item first, or save this item for last, and they ignored it. I would offer them advice on how to pack this or that (remember, I’ve seen it moved a dozen times or more, I kind of know how it goes best), and they ignore me. I speak with the driver, to ask him to tell them to be careful, and he says “Just tell them, they’ll do whatever you say.” They don’t. I advised the packers and loaders multiple times on the best way to pack things… and they ignored me. I had seen how other movers had done our shelving units, wrapping the parts in stretch wrap, and suggested it. I was ignored. And I watched them drop the parts off their dollies as they carried them.
The packers had a habit of sticking extra tape on the carpet, pieces and remnants of their rolls. They didn’t clean it up… I spent an hour going through the house pulling up tiny pieces of tape they cut and stuck to the carpet where they were starting new rolls, had bad tape balls, etc.. They did not clean up after themselves at all. Not professional.
We had three dogs, and we arranged for my wife or myself to be with the dogs in a closed off porch area all day, so the loaders could work without the dogs bothering them. We asked that the dog beds/blankets be last to be packed, so the dogs would have someplace to relax. My wife, who just had knee surgery, had a rolling office chair there in the porch, so she could sit with them, keep them calm, and keep them from barking at all the activity.
Loader told me “we need that chair, it gets loaded next”, so I told my wife it was time to give up the chair, and she would have to sit on the floor with the dogs for the rest of the load. I pulled the chair out of the room for the loaders, and gave it to the guy. He put it in the middle of the living room, and it stood there for another 3 hours, before they wrapped it and packed it. My wife could have been using that chair, instead of sitting on a floor, for THREE HOURS, but instead, they took her chair from her for no reason.
We had wall art, the print on metal style, and they packed it without wrapping it… just packed it against other metal pieces, loose items, etc., so they jostled and scratched each other up in transit. What kind of professional packers don’t wrap framed art? An original art on canvas piece was put in a box with wreaths with branches sticking out on top of it. Another art canvas together with 5 wooden frames and a framed art piece in a box that was only wide enough to hold half of that, so the slim box bulged and everything was under pressure.
A stained glass suncatcher wrapped in a sheet of paper together with a small tile and a ceramic drink coaster. A one of a kind tile commemorating a birth shoved in a box with metal and other pieces without any wrapping. Metal plant hanger chains that were all nicely separated thrown into a heap so it took us half an hour to unhook all pieces from each other. But, what did these professional packers actually wrap? A dog bone. Indeed, inside a box of other items was a carefully paper wrapped dog bone.
At the very end of the pack, we discovered that they had not packed the calendar from our wall, a very special calendar to us. We gave it to the driver, who said he would pack it carefully for us, after hearing how important it was to us. Did they? Nope. He bent it, and stuffed it into the “important parts box” so it’s all damaged now. We had a lot of damaged items… broken entirely because they don’t know how to pack. Fragile items placed on the bottom of a box, and then loose heavy metal and stone items on top of that. Absolutely bonkers.

This is by far the worst company for military personnel to use for moving. My belongings were completely ruined during the move, and the company has been nothing but unresponsive and unprofessional. They drag their feet on resolving issues, showing no respect or courtesy for families who rely on their services. Bradley, in particular, has been the most unhelpful and frustrating to deal with. I strongly advise avoiding this company at all costs. Skip on National Claims Services, INC. and National Van Lines - International Division.

Not a good company to use. I hired National Van Lines to move my belongings. On the day of the move 3 guys show up with a Uhaul truck (not the 18 wheeler I was expecting). Stating that they were moving my stuff to a secure facility and would then load it in the 18 wheeler. I was moving from Minnesota to Texas. I tried calling Sam ** several times. I left a message every time I called him. Explaining that I didn't agree to a Uhaul truck picking up my belongings. I NEVER received a return call. These 3 men didn't care about my belongings. They packed the Uhaul. They did a horrible job. They crushed my brand new dryer, broke 2 end tables and my coffee table. Then I finally starting unpacking my stuff and noticed I was missing a tub of Christmas stuff. The tub was new, not broken in any way but when I start going through my stuff, I noticed that the tub was missing and my precious Christmas belongings were all broke in a box that wasn't mine..
My mother had made me a ceramic manger. With Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, 3 wise men and it is all in pieces. My Mom passed away a few years back and the manger means a lot to me. How can this stuff be replaced? I called Sam ** (and yes, I was upset) and all's he offered me was to file a claim. Seriously. How can you trust a company that moves people supposedly professionally, and doesn't care about a person's belongings. Please DO NOT use National Van Lines. Find a good company that will care for your personal belongings and not National Van Lines because they are horrible at what they do. But if you want your personal belonging broke, call them. I would NEVER use them again and nor should you.

My experience with National Van Lines was a disaster from start to finish. First, they underestimated the amount of time and space needed for my move, which led to half of my belongings being left behind. The movers seemed disorganized and unprepared, and they had to scramble to find a second truck at the last minute, which caused a huge delay. When my items finally arrived, several boxes were crushed, and a few important items were missing. To top it off, customer service was unhelpful and dismissive, offering no real solutions or compensation. I regret choosing National Van Lines and would strongly advise others to avoid them.

My move with National Van Lines was a bit of a rollercoaster. While I appreciate the company’s professionalism, there were a few bumps along the way. To start, the scheduling process was more complicated than expected. I had to follow up multiple times to confirm my moving date, which created some frustration. On the day of the move, the crew arrived about two hours late, which was inconvenient as I had arranged my day around the original schedule. However, the team was apologetic and courteous, which helped ease my concerns.
Once they got to work, the movers were quick and efficient, clearly experienced at handling large furniture and delicate items. That said, a few of my boxes arrived with minor dents and scratches, and one lamp was slightly damaged. To their credit, they responded immediately when I reported it, offering compensation for the damaged item. Their willingness to address the problem quickly and professionally was reassuring.
While the overall process had some missteps, I was impressed with the crew’s hard work and commitment to getting the job done right, even under less-than-ideal circumstances. If National Van Lines improves their communication and timeliness, they could be a truly standout moving company. Despite the setbacks, I’m satisfied with the final outcome and would still consider using them in the future.

While my move with National Van Lines had a few hiccups, overall, the experience was positive. There was a slight delay in the arrival of the moving truck, which caused some stress, but the team kept me informed and made sure to accommodate my schedule. Once they arrived, the crew worked efficiently and handled my items with care, making up for the earlier issues. A couple of boxes had minor scratches, but nothing was seriously damaged. Despite the small setbacks, their professionalism and responsiveness won me over. I’d still recommend them for their commitment to resolving problems and delivering solid service.
Reviewed Sept. 4, 2024
However, there were a few setbacks. Delivery was delayed, and communication during this period was lacking—I had to reach out multiple times for updates. A few smaller items arrived damaged, and the compensation offered didn't fully cover replacements. While the move was generally fine, it wasn't entirely stress-free. If you choose National Van Lines, be prepared for potential delays and stay proactive in communicating with their team.

I used National Van Lines in my cross country move and was beyond dissatisfied with their customer service, the process as a whole, and their willingness to help with problems they created. I signed a contract with a guaranteed delivery window of June 8th-June 22nd, and did not receive my items until July 12th. Furthermore, I contacted the company multiple times while waiting and was given no information and could not get my calls returned until I was able to get in touch with their director of customer service, who also eventually stopped responding. My items were dropped off at a warehouse in Phoenix where I was moving from on June 3rd and were not even picked up to be delivered to South Carolina until the 26th of June, despite the fact that I was guaranteed delivery by the 22nd. Because of the extreme delay I incurred over $700 in additional expenses for hotels, clothes, and other items that I was not aware I would need.
When my items finally did arrive, the driver was extremely rude, refused to help with any assembly even though that was a part of what I paid for. Multiple items were also damaged in the move, about $450 worth of damage. When I filed a claim, as I was directed to do by customer service, they simply said that the damage was not great enough for them to do anything. While I would like to be compensated in some way for the trouble, the disrespect and poor treatment, and the horrible experience, I do understand that is highly unlikely. However, I want to warn anyone else who might make the mistake of using this company. They are over-priced, and treat their customers reprehensibly.

Chose this mover from NJ to GA because I've been screwed over by movers before (paying one price and then during drop off having to pay more). The representative assured me it was only one price that of which is was however all my boxes and heavy duty bins were smashed and broken. 55 inch TV glass stand was snapped and broken as well as missing boxes. Filed a claim with the moving company and they will not pay or take responsibility on everything being damaged. I paid cheap for the move and probably should have paid extra ensuring all my items weren't damaged.

I do not recommend National Van Lines nor Premier Van and Storage in Arizona. We had a terrible experience with this mover. They contract their labor and their carelessness caused quite a bit of damage. We had the highest levels of carrier liability with $0 deductible and $125,000 maximum level of protection. That's full replacement value protection and the most comprehensive plan available. They were obligated to compensate to repair or restore, but that didn't happen. We also purchased the full service VIP option that included full packing, crating and uncrating, and a $50,000 damage protection policy. All apparently worthless. Premier is an agent for National Van Lines. National reimbursed us for only 16% of the amount of our claim. And they declined to reply to any of my notes to them. Careless damages, lack of compensation, and lack of communication. Seems like you should be able to do a lot better.

Missed the contracted delivery window and broke a TON of expensive stuff. Including dining room table, daughter's dresser, lamps, etc. You name it, they broke it. We had paid for the extra insurance and submitted a claim for $8k in damaged goods. They lied/deflected and said most were repairable and gave us $800. Miserable customer experience all around.

BEWARE! This company does not have its own trucks or crew. Does not even deserve one star. Wish I knew that before I booked with them. Scheduled my move two months in advance. The day before my scheduled packing and loading I called National Van Lines to find out when my crew was coming and they did not have anyone lined up for me. It took them four days to scrounge up three men and two U-Haul trucks. These three men did not work for any reputable moving company I might add. I am now three days behind on my move. My family and I had to purchase boxes and packing paper to pack my own belongings. This was supposed to be a complete pack, load and move contracted job. My husband and I then had to arrange additional moving crews to help with the packing and loading in order to be out on time. We have moved with other major moving lines in the past, this was the worst move ever!
Please do not book your move with this company. Very unprofessional, unorganized, uncaring and awful business I have ever worked with. Always remember, the cheapest isn't always the best. We incurred many damages to our belongings. They packed our 13,000 pound move into two (2) 20 foot U-Haul trucks. Tables were smashed, gas grill smashed, outdoor heater bent, dining room table legs gouged, fabric stained and ripped, etc. I hope I can add photos to this review. This is our life in two trucks and they had no regard whatsoever. REMINDER: do not book with National Van Lines!

I received a call the day before our cross country move date to try to get me to reschedule which at that time I made them aware that I could not. CS stated that no one accepted this load until the night before. The crew showed with no packing materials. A moving company with nothing to pack the kitchen, and artwork even after I did a video call inventorying kitchen and paintings. Cesar the leader who arrived first at 7:50am, quit and drove off at 9am and never came back. After several calls to Tiffany in CS I came up with idea myself that the two workers who were left go to Home Depot and buy materials. There was no mattress bags/covers even after I did a video call inventorying bedrooms. Other furniture was placed on the truck unprotected which I made them pull it back off, and repack.
After 8 phone calls with Tiffany in CS, Lori (her supervisor) made me aware that this case had not been escalated. Even after the leader walked off the job, and with a crew too small to do the job, and no packing materials. So all the phone calls to Tiffany saying they were escalating to Operations was not true. Several items were loaded with insufficient protection. Shrink wrapping alone does not protect furniture from a long distance move. When workers shrink wrap their hands go right through when they carry the items leaving them open to dirt and insects etc… (I have pictures that were taken inside the truck to verify.)
Lori, (CS supervisor) said that they would take the truck to their Broadview office to “re-pack” properly things that had been improperly pack. Several items were left behind because there was insufficient packing materials and boxes. Coffee maker, knife set, teapot, cookware etc… Paintings were put between mattresses instead of being boxed and protected. It took a 2 person crew 13hrs which put us a day behind on our relocation plans. I wanted to deal with National Van Lines exclusively. When 3rd or 4th parties are brought in this is what happens.
Reviewed April 22, 2023
First of all, the price structure was weird. I had to make three different payments. The last one had to be in cash. When I called the office to confirm that it had to be in cash, I was told I could pay "any way I wanted" but the people who showed up insisted that I had to have cash. When I informed them I'd have to go get it, (which I did) the man in charge just kept going on about why he had to have cash. Apparently, National Van Lines just contracts with these people. I also paid for help in packing. They left parts of things lying on the floor, and didn't wrap or pack electronics properly. Several items were broken or disabled. My things were moved to a storage spot, and I'm still discovering fragile items just thrown in a box every which way. I have low vision, and missed much of it earlier.
Another weird thing is that they can never give you a firm moving date, and I ended up having to move a day early. I would have turned them away, but I had to get my things moved and felt like I was being blackmailed. Then at the end they informed me at the last minute that I also had to pay an "elevator fee" because my storage space was on the third floor. This had never been mentioned to me prior. I was already moving under stressful circumstances. National Van Lines made it worse. If you care about your things, do NOT use this service. My rollmop desk no longer rolls. My projector screen that is supposed to be flat on the floor was left in storage space stood on one end and leaning against my chaise lounge. Maybe some of the movers they contract with are better, but I have no trust in these people at all.

I am an 85-year-old woman who moved across country from Oregon to Georgia to live closer to my daughter so she could help take care of me. National promised my belongings would be delivered safely and on time. That promise was not kept. I waited for six days past the contract deadline, on borrowed lawn furniture, for my belongings to arrive. When the van finally showed up, I discovered much of my furniture, most of which was under six months old, heavily damaged. One furniture item wasn't even on the truck.
One of the movers was in such a hurry to leave, he ripped the fabric of my couch right before my eyes and didn't utter a word. The movers didn't set my bed up correctly before leaving, and the driver told me he spent two days enjoying himself in Las Vegas while on the way to Georgia. I filed a claim report for nearly $3,000 for the damaged furniture, and National sent me a check for $216 to cover the entire claim. They also deducted $300 for the late arrival. The cost of the move was over $12,000. I filed a claim dispute for the damage, was repeatedly told it was being handled, and six weeks later was finally informed the original claim coverage of $216 was the most I would be offered. I strongly advise against hiring National Van Lines for a move.

NVL recently moved us from NC to VA. The total short move cost me $4,770.91, which included $410.00 for insurance which carried a $500 deductible. Didn't understand why I had to pay such a high deductible, when I never had to pay this with any other moving company I previously used, and trust me, we moved a lot. Unfortunately one of my night stands that made it from Texas to NC undamaged with Evolution Movers, couldn't make it from NC to VA without NVL damaging my $830 (before taxes), Night Stand. When I put in a claim for my damaged Night Stand, NVL sent me a check for $329.99. From the $830 (the cost of my night stand before taxes), they deducted $500.01, and sent me a check for $329.99.
You figure this scam out. We paid $410 for their insurance, they damaged my $830 night stand, and all I got out of it was $329.99. I am not understanding how NVL is allowed to rob people like this and get away with it. The insurance cost me more than they paid me for the damage to my night stand. Stay far away from this company as possible and don't ever purchase their insurance, because it's a scam. I did better taking my chances with no insurance, because I paid them more than I got back. In other words, I paid NVL $410 to damage my furniture and they compensated me a whopping $329.00.

A nightmare experience. They were the most expensive quote I received and unfortunately I did NOT receive the service I was promised. The driver was extremely unprofessional with several hours of delays on both pick-up and delivery dates with ZERO communication. I pointed out the damage to the mover and the driver immediately who apologized for the partner mover not being careful taking the items out of the truck.
The driver told me I would have to call National Van Lines’ customer service line to file a claim. These people are only focused on creative excuses to avoid paying out claims.
