They make it insanely hard to perform practicums/clinicals and are not sympathetic about it. They make you find your own preceptors, make many unnecessary requirements, make practicum deadlines months in advance (many times you are unable to find a preceptor by this time), and rarely email you back if you are having problems. They are not helpful when they do respond.

I applied to Walden University while researching programs for my mental health studies. The Enrollment Officer convinced me that Walden was the best option for what I wanted to pursue. Trusting their recommendation, I went through the entire application process, which was both time-consuming and costly. Since my former university is outside the U.S., I had to pay out of pocket to have my transcript emailed and physically mailed to Walden. Additionally, due to a name change, I was required to upload multiple documents, including my name change documents, marriage certificate, and driver’s license, to their portal. I also completed and submitted a goal statement, following their specific requirements.
After completing every step they required and receiving confirmation that my goal statement was accepted, I was suddenly informed right when I was preparing to start that I had been denied admission. When I asked for the reason, no one could provide an answer. I repeatedly requested clarification, but I was met with silence and vague responses.
To make matters worse, I was encouraged to reapply in six months. Why would I do that when I have no idea why I was rejected in the first place? If there was something I needed to improve, I was never informed. This entire process felt like a complete waste of my time and money. I am left questioning whether discrimination played a role in this decision, given the lack of transparency.
If you’re considering Walden University, think twice. Their enrollment process is misleading, their communication is poor, and they have no accountability when it comes to denying applicants without explanation. Save yourself the hassle, frustration, and money. Look elsewhere for a university that values and respects prospective students.

I wish I had checked this review before starting the program. This has been the worst experience imaginable in any academic journey. I faced an issue with my clinical preceptor, which led the school to put my course on hold. It took three months to resolve the problem, even though the preceptor had no affiliation with the university. As a result, my graduation was delayed by more than six months. On top of that, I was charged twice for the course, wasting both my time and money. If you're considering higher education, Walden University should not even be a last resort. Their poor management, lack of communication, flawed decision-making, and disregard for student support make for a terrible experience. I hope this review helps prospective students and encourages the university to make necessary improvements.

Awful experience as an alumni trying to do a certificate masters program. I uploaded all required documents to CastleBranch and received an email of rejection for me and preceptors after so much stress and money spent in the process. I also had the most difficult time getting someone to verify the pharmacology course I took at this school based on the requirement of state board of nursing in the given state I applied to for the Nurse Practitioner license.
After being given the run around of emailing requests to so many addresses, I received an email about applying on Meditrek to upload documents and request for graduation when I already graduated since 2016 and practicing since then. I was very disappointed that I graduated from a school like this that is not willing to help their students nor alumni. A current student who I told my story answered me, "That's why I told you that I will do my doctorate degree at another school ". I pray that you all improve your customer service.

Walden seemed like the right school for me at the time of my enrollment into a master's degree program. My enrollment advisor used every smooth talking tactics and relatable advice to ensure me that Walden is where I needed to be. I was told that I didn’t need experience to start my career because a master's degree would put me at the top of applicants that had no degree. They even went as far as to say that a master's degree from their school would be great in the eyes of employers because they are number 1 when it comes to their master's degree programs. They allowed me to do an online practicum to gain skills which ultimately left me feeling that I had learned been given the bare minimum with an online practicum.
The worst part was what happened after I graduated. I applied for numerous jobs on my own and I used Walden’s career tools and was denied each time. I graduated in 2019 and as of 2024 I still have no job in the career field I studied for at Walden University. I’ve been left with nothing but years of stress and depression. Every employer was looking for applicants that had between 1-5 years of experience. I had zero years of experience. I was crushed and embarrassed with each failed attempt at getting a job. I’m now having to start over at 39 years old. I’ll be 40 this year. I’ll have to enter myself back into college and it’s a scary process because I don’t want more years of disappointment and wasted time.
I am however grateful that I know what to look for in schools now and that is one that includes internships. and attend a college that sets up internships. What Walden did to me was predatory. They wasted my time, they set me on a downward spiral and affected my mental and physical health. I will never forget what Walden University did to me. I will never forget the embarrassment that I endured each time I eagerly applied for a job not knowing that the employer was going to say no and that I needed more than a degree. I hope the prospective students dig deeper into Walden and every other schools background and check with your state about employment requirements before committing to college. If I’d known what I know now I would never have applied to Walden University.

This has been the worst academic experience I’ve ever had. They are nice to you until you sign up then after, I feel they actually want to see you quit and fail. They advertise being work friendly and work with your schedule but they are not. Sue is an advisor but I received no advisement and no support except threats. My gpa is ruined, I owe loans because of this school. Don’t sign up.

Initially, I love the school for my MSW program however, when I dealt with a family emergency and needed to take a mental health break, I was charged even though I withdrew before the class start date. It has been a battle just to prove to them that I withdrew in time. I submitted all the paperwork and also reached out to my advisor in a timely manner. I use my military benefits, and they didn’t charge me however, the school is still charging me. I just don’t understand how they continue charging for a course, I withdrew from due to mental health issues due to my father’s passing. I even showed the obituary and everything so at this point I’m not sure what else I can do. I like the school however I think they need better communication and empathy. They make me feel bad for even putting my mental health as a priority because now I can’t go to school until I come up with the money.

I started my PhD before Walden University went owned by Adtalem Global, and after, things started became bad. In the beginning, the advisor will nice, until you complain if needed, then you will be targeted by this institution. In this place, preferences are highly present, making differences between students, and therefore making this place impossible. Worst in the last period of your career, when staff will ignore you, because to be honest, they do not care.

To start, if there were zero stars, that is what Walden would get. I am at the end of my ASN to BSN program. The cost was over double what they said. It took me 15 months. Could have finished sooner, but the school is a goat rope. I had to pay for an extra 2 quarters just to get my preceptorship approved. A week after they approved it, I went to attend my preceptorship. BUT Walden made me get another set of requests filled out because they said "the others had expired". I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!!! Just Like the lawsuit they lost says, "They try not to let you finish the program".

This is the worse college experience after a BSN and MSN. Some of the professors are racist and you will get failed for issues for technical issues that's caused by Walden poor technology. The departments do not communicate with students or each other so you will not know they have secret deadlines for simple things such as financial aid loans. If you want to get anxiety try and figure out their clinical rotation policy which changes every semester.

As a current Master's Tempo student at Walden University, I encourage potential students to thoroughly research not only Walden but also consider other universities as academic resources before applying. My experience as an MBA student at Walden has been disappointing, underwhelming, and a complete waste of significant financial investment. First, the "educators" at Walden are referred to as SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), which seems to be a way to avoid actually educating and instead act as glorified paper-graders. These SMEs are often unwilling to provide guidance or insight into their feedback. When they feel challenged, their response is to stop responding to inquiries for clarification.
When asked for further edification on subjects that are not comprehensible, SMEs typically direct students to the Writing Review Center or send a link to a video on paper structure, rather than explaining what could improve the submission for future real-world application. For example, I was told by an SME that the company I was researching was not a reliable source for its own mission and vision. Instead, I was advised to use a ratings and review platform as a more accurate and credible resource. When I asked the individual overseeing the Tempo program to explain this directive, he stated, "Companies lie all the time. If you go to the webpage for the flat-earther society, you will see that." When I questioned if this comparison was reasonable, given that the company I was researching is publicly traded, and why the company would lie about its mission and vision but an unrelated website wouldn't, he became defensive and refused to answer.
Another SME told me to make changes to a paper simply because she wanted me to, even though these changes were not aligned with the rubric. Additionally, the individual overseeing the program has encouraged me not to ask questions and to just make the changes to my papers without understanding the "why." His instruction was to follow the SME's way in school but do it my way in real life. My reason for choosing Walden was not due to it being a reputable institution or one that would reflect well on a resume; instead, I went with the cheaper option. I am learning the very hard way that cheaper is not better. Had I known this would be my experience in the beginning, I would have avoided this institution at all costs.

I started Walden's online MSW program in September 2022. I qualified for the advanced standing program which made the duration a year and a half. While recruiting me into the program, Walden University blew up my phone and promised a positive and supportive learning experience. As part of this program, two 12-week field placements are required. Students are assigned a field coordinator but must find the internship independently. I have now been searching for six months for a field placement with little to no assistance from the school.
I have completed all of my courses and was set to graduate in May of 2024, however now I have no idea when, if ever, I will graduate. I will soon have to begin paying back over $30,000 of student loans for a degree I may never possess. I have an academic advisor who is like talking to a robot and a field coordination system with no connections with NJ agencies. Any attempts to contact anyone higher up have been futile. There is no one to talk to. I highly recommend that you take your money to a non-profit, reputable college or university.

All stated opinions are as follows: I am in the doctorate program for social work at Walden University. Through the prospectus stage and overall research (after all classwork was completed with a 4.0 GPA), I began experiencing gaslighting, a matter of opinion versus scholarly writing recommendations, etc., to which I have not been approved for the next stage after spending at least 12k just on the first stage alone, not including previous coursework. Chairpeople, who are the gatekeepers, must be educated to be in their positions as they continue to have conflicting recommendations from other doctorate faculty staff members. I suffered repercussions when I began speaking out and making complaints. I received more comments for recommendations than I previously had on the information that needed to be commented on or recommended for corrections.
My chairperson would tell me exactly how she wanted me to write the title and later tell me it was wrong. In other areas, she would tell me exactly how she wanted me to word it and then later make more recommendations to correct what she said previously. It feels that this is a game, and I am on the losing end as the one with no power. Yet, the faculty state that this is all a normal process. Now I have a new chairperson, and I guarantee you, in the end, it will be the same game. "Yes, these things will work, and you have great information," but will continue to string you along. I even utilized their alignment appointment system with other doctorate faculty who would look at my prospectus and tell me that I have great alignment, only for my chairperson to later state otherwise.
Other doctorate faculty would say yes, this is great, and you should have no problem going on to the next stage with a proposal, only for my chairperson to recommend more changes. They do not have a solid system, and a rubric was never filled out for me during each stage as it should have been. I was just now given the MyDR and Taskmanager link to upload my prospectus with other board members when I did everything in CANVA/Module for previous quarters.
Anyhow, for those who don't fully understand the language here I am using, to be blunt, it all feels like a scam. I think my doctorate is being held hostage. A few years Walden had a lawsuit brought against them for treating ** female students with bias and prejudice, specifically in the doctorate program where they dangle a carrot and tell you to try and catch it but keep pulling it further and further away. Yes, ** students successfully pass and obtain their doctorate. I am sure those are the passive ones who don't seem to have a problem, never make a complaint, and continue to take it until they pass. However, my mama didn't raise a fool, and I am not one to bend over and just take it.
When I ask questions, no one seems to have any logical answers as to what is going on or why things are not linear in this process of making needed corrections, fine-tuning things continually to where you should be able to reach an end after two semesters to then move on to the next stage. If I had to do it all over, I would have gone to where I received my Master's from the University of New England. That was the most challenging but best education I have ever received. They have professionals who will hold you to high standards but also hold themselves to those same standards.
I want to change programs without entirely starting the coursework at another University, such as the University of New England, but that isn't possible. All universities will have you start over if you are this far in the program with your research, so I encourage others to make sure they do not begin the doctorate program at Walden University until they do thorough research.

I graduated with my Master's in Public Health from Walden University in August of 2023. An advanced degree like this is no easy task, and I did not take that lightly. The enrollment specialist was great, and I had a variety of instructors. Most were fantastic, and a few want to see me through my doctoral studies. I did have one instructor that accused me of plagiarism; that was probably the most horrible experience I have ever had in my educational history. I was faithfully able to prove that I acted honestly in that course, but it was very draining, mentally and physically. The financial aid department was just fine in their customer service, and I had my needs met without a problem. I have a few complaints. They are:
- During the two years, I had probably four different academic advisors (some of my classmates did not have that experience). It would have been nice to have one solid person; all of mine were very professional and nice.
- GRADUATION CEREMONY: Walden has two ceremonies a year, and the location changes, which is fine. But not only do they require you to purchase the grad regalia, they also charge $300 just to attend an in-person ceremony. After spending THOUSANDS, I feel they should not be charging that. I would have gone otherwise!!

I had attended Walden University and know first hand that a student needs to work hard to earn a degree from this university. It is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, one of six regional accrediting associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Many highly respected brick and mortar universities are also accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. I read some of the whining reviews from former students who complained about the university's quality, but I suspect these are the type of students who expected an easy degree but ended up not being able to keep up with the studies.
In fact, it is actually much harder to earn a degree from an online university instead of the traditional university because there will not be teachers to physically nag you to submit your assignments and study for examinations. You have to be very self-motivated to achieve success while studying at Walden University. My advice to those who think they can earn an easy degree from Walden is to stay away, because you will in fact need to work hard to earn a degree from Walden University. Also, a Walden degree is well respected by employers. I am earning a high six-figure salary today because of my Walden education.

I applied for the MSW program in November of 2021. My enrollment recruiter brought to my attention that there was a financial and academic hold on my account and I would need to talk to the financial enrichment team. Upon talking to them, it was brought to my attention that I had applied to Walden in 2007 which I cannot deny. In the spring on 2007 I had withdrawn from class. Somehow, I was placed in a class again in the Fall of 2007. I was unaware of this class, never received a bill or was contacted by Walden University. It has been brought to my attention that not only did I receive an F for this class that put me in poor academic, that I also owe them $2000.00. It has been 14 years. I do not know of a single college that would enroll a student in 2 semesters of classes without payment. I think when I withdrew they placed me into a fall class as this is a for profit school and the recruiters only get payment if the students are enrolled.
Because of this, I now have a 14 year old bill. The statute of limitations for a college bill is 6 years on average and the very fact that they NEVER sent this to collections, has me very concerned about the validity of this bill. I told them that I want to dispute this bill and they said that my application is proof enough. So, I cannot even dispute this within the university. I am now taking this outside the university. What is funny, is at the time, I had a trust fund that would have paid for this that my grandmother set up for me. So this is why I question the validity. If there was a bill, I would have simply submitted it to the bank for payment. It is now dissolved because there were only limited funds in there for college. They have yet, to show proof of my attendance, and I made it very clear, of the timeline and the reason for the inconsistency of their records.

Where to even start with Walden, my mom says if you have nothing nice, say nothing at all. The only nice things I can say is that some of their faculty is kind and it’s convenient for working students who need a flexible set of courses to accommodate their work schedule. Aside from that from 2017 til this month, October 2021 I have been a student at Walden. I am going to point out each deceptive practice from my own personal experience.
1. Scholarships and discounts. I was told by the enrollment advisor that if I received a scholarship with Walden it would reduce the cost until I complete the program at Walden. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I had a scholarship with Walden as a social work student and I most definitely saw my scholarship go away and my school costs go up in the middle of my degree program (2019).
2. They say that the courses will strive towards social change and help you to grow as a student. It was very self paced, I mostly taught myself, and the teachers rarely provided feedback that helps students to strengthen their work or their writing.
3. Residencies are not only a joke but also a waste of money and time. Had I known I’d be spending for room and board, food, and traveling everywhere to pursue a degree while trying to accommodate my full time, very demanding schedule, I would’ve never attended Walden. I did what I had to do to move forward in my degree plan.
4. In dissertation pod I have had the worst experience ever. I’ve been in pod for at least 4 terms and got NO guidance on how to strengthen and improve my proposal and writing to move forward, first of all the first chair responds with, "Looks good," or if you text her she’s always traveling, when you manage to have a call with her, she has very little feedback to provide that helps you to move forward in a confident way as a doctoral student. The second committee member is completely non responsive, doesn’t attend meetings, when I look for her feedback on writing you get things like ‘looks good’.
The URR doesn’t follow the checklist, they pick and choose what to nitpick at. They send you to fix and make corrections, you follow their guidance completely and do exactly what they say, then resubmit it, only for them to send back a plethora more of mistakes that they never pointed out as an issue in the first place. Also to note you didn’t change anything about the paper that would misalign it, only corrected their critiques and sought feedback from first and second committee member for them to say ‘looks great or way better’ only for URR to continue to say it’s not right. At this point it’s a money pit and I feel I’m being sent through these hoops and circles for them to buckle and dime me. I understand the dissertation is rigorous and that there will be several edits but to not have guidance and be paying all this money is a HUGE issue.
5. I consulted with my advisor about changing from PhD program to DSW program and they showed me that I would only need to take three additional courses and do a capstone project if I went that route. When I decided this year to pursue this, I’m already at Walden and switched from the Clinical Social Work PhD program to the Clinical Social Work DSW program. I side by side compared the courses in the course catalog, the description of the aim of the course, and the course code numbers. I’ve already taken those courses and exceeded some of the courses that are required to be taken.
To expound in DSW you get to choose between quantitative, mixed, or qualitative reasoning research courses. In PhD program you had to do both, which I did. So how is it that the evaluator states that at the same school, with the same class codes, and the same requirements as before, I would not be able to just transfer over and complete the few courses initially projected in 2019 and the capstone project, but instead essentially start almost completely over. This is deceptive because in ANY college of university I have attended, they would allow you a change of major or degree plan. 4)3 courses that compared in the course catalog were allowed to transfer over. Another example of Walden deceiving students and trying to nickel and dime them.
6. When there is a dilemma with Walden there is little to no feedback, I’ve presented this issue to the enrollment counselor who’s supposed to help me transfer from PhD to DSW program, nothing from my academic advisor which might I add a huge red flag is going through four academic advisors in my time here, they leave like flies. I also reached out to the ombudsman and the next step is to figure out how to email the dean of the school of social work to get guidance because no one is responding to my very real and unreasonable question about a mere transfer process.
7. Walden is not honest and upfront about its prices, they project a way lower amount initially. Then you end up paying a whole lot more when you include residencies, materials for courses, the time wasted in dissertation pod with no guidance, etc. The financial aid team tells you mid semester when you ran out of funding for school, after you’ve already begun the term. When you ask them for resources and fiscal options they send you a link to fastweb which we know the link doesn’t work or had just another list of long scholarships for students that are first time 18+, not options for non traditional students. They also don’t work with you on a reasonable payment plan to pay for your school on your own.
8. Can never speak with anyone from your assigned school to discuss your concerns and get answers that makes sense.

I started Walden during the pandemic. They were the only program offering (at your own pace) Tempo Learning. After attending Western Governor I thought this would be comparable. However, it isn't. No guidance through classes, 3 days is the response time from the "teacher" subject matter experts, and then there was a ownership change. The ownership change made it impossible for them to receive government funding until the audit was done. Therefore, according to financial aid, all programs were sent an email requesting them not to remove students from their courses because they would eventually be able to access funds. Financial aid could see the funds, they just couldn't access them. My course mentor removed me from the program and refused me access until I paid the funds myself. Meanwhile, financial aid is dumbfounded as to why this is happening and continued telling me they should not be removing me from the program.
Jennifer, from the President's office was supposed to call me. When she called I was at work. I have called her back 3 times. Her voice-mail says she will return my call within 3 days. It's been more than a week since my last call. I will not be continuing with Walden. I do however hope someone whom is in charge of accreditation looks into them soon. This is not a school. The "leaning resources" are a joke and I don't know how anyone could take this seriously. I paid outside psychology professionals with their PhD. to tutor me. These professionals were at a loss and had to refund my money because they couldn't understand what was being asked on the assignment/s. Don't waste your time or money. I've wasted over a year.

I called them and ask them why was this class 1,000 more expensive than the others. The lady said that Walden was giving me 1,000 dlls per class but that they had already done it three times and that they will no longer do it. That from now on my classes were almost 4,000 dlls each and that this time they had helped me with 800 dlls. So I had to pay 2, 800 per class (with subsidy).
I regret that I have already done half of my masters here. Arlington University charges 1,800 for 4 classes (a semester) and it is much better school. If I had known this before going into Walden I would have chosen Arlington. Now I am STUCK because I was about to start preceptorship. Walden is not worth the money. Go someplace else. TOO EXPENSIVE!!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM because they do not tell you that classes are going to skyrocket more than 30% meanwhile you are in the program.

I completed my Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership in 3 1/2 years. Some may say everything is great until you start the dissertation. Many have the impression this is when things go down-hill; however, you make the rules and decide how fast you want to finish and form the direction of your study. You are now the expert in your field, and you have the tools needed to complete your program. The ones who complain are the ones who are not serious!!! If you want to graduate, you have to make tough decisions and be determined!!! It is your destiny, and you are the one in charge.
I started researching my dissertation from the day I started my program. I centered every paper around this central topic. In doing so, I was able to write my prospectus is 2-Weeks, my proposal in Month 8, my URR approval and Defense in Month 8, IRB and Survey completed in Month 9, Data Analysis and Finished Chapter 5 in Month 11, URR approval and Final Defense in Month 12, and Finally Form and Style, followed by CAO Approval in Month 12!!! You have to be dedicated and motivated... I woke up at 4 AM every morning to read journal articles and write...
When I received feedback on my manuscript, I would have it back to my committee within 24-Hours... I called my chair in Ohio when I needed guidance on content, and I would call my Methodologist (2nd committee member) in Doha, Qatar, when I needed analytical advice... I completed my Quantitative Dissertation in Education in a SINGLE YEAR!!! It is possible, but you have to drive the car... My committee was excellent, and I forced them to follow my direction but worked under their experience and expertise. However, in the end, it is My Study! I'm Published! I am working on my first Academic Journal Article, employed in Higher Education, and I am proud of My achievement! Finally, I am Proud to have My Doctorate Degree framed and nicely hung on the wall in My office at My University, where I very proudly work! Thank you, Walden University, Class of 2020!
