I had an empty pod delivered to Maryland. I had it stored a week or two, had it delivered to Texas then I had it picked up. I was driving cross-country and I wouldn't get here before the pod could get here. Because of HOA rules, there are a limited number of days that you're allowed to have a pod in your driveway so I had to have it stored first. I started out the process with PODS online then I got on the phone to firm up all the details. I got on the phone again to revise the pickup date because I needed a few more days to load it.
I had to keep the pod an extra three days and that was okay on my end, but it shifted the delivery for seven days. I went an extra week without any of my stuff. I don't know how their logistics work and I know it's really complicated - computers, AI and people trying to work at the same time. But there is good software for that. To have a three-day delay on one end cause a seven-day delay on the other end is little troublesome for me. Also, even with the 30% discount, it was way too expensive. I feel like I made a mistake.
Additionally, the movers didn't strap the load down. They didn't use good ratchet straps. They didn't know what they were doing. The whole load had shifted towards the back. I already had problems with the lock on the back when it was full even though everything was pushed forward. The door and the latches would never line up. We ended up pushing and pulling. I had to get my neighbor to help me. When the guy came to pick up the full pod, I'm so thankful I was there because he needed to move the lock from the left to the right because the way the latches were messed up. That was leaving Maryland.
Because the movers didn't strap it in very well, the whole load shifted towards the door. I had these two plastic sawhorses that were at the right height that got caught in in one of the louvers. There was no way the door would open. Thank God the guy that brought the pod knew what he was doing. He seemed like a very experienced gentleman. He was able to tilt the pod up as high as it went. Even then, he had to get it a little bit open and push the sawhorse a little bit and push and pull it a little bit more. I didn't know he was going to be able to do it but I had great confidence in him. In fact, I made sure he got a nice tip too because I don't know what I would have done. He was awesome.

PODS seemed convenient and the price was competitive. It wasn't off by much, not enough to make me choose somebody else. When I booked the 16-foot pod over the phone, the interaction with the rep was fine. But on the day of the pickup, they changed my pick-up time four times and without any prior notification. Only an email saying my time has changed. When you're moving, you have more than one thing going on. So, it occupied a lot of my time. That was not well planned on their part. Things happen, but there needs to be a mechanism that's better than that.
I called that morning after the second change, and I spoke to a supervisor. That lady needs to be completely in a different line of business, because the first thing you do when a customer is complaining is apologize for the inconvenience they’re having, and then guarantee you’re going to try to resolve the situation as best as possible right now, and she didn’t do either. It ended up being good because the people who followed afterwards were good people.
The actual delivery of the pod to my new house was fine. But the driver who initially delivered it needs some training on customer service. He came in there with a very bad attitude. I specifically told the representative how I wanted it with the door facing the garage and in the center of the driveway. When the delivery guy got there, he asked where I wanted it and I said I had specified. He said it was completely opposite of what he had. I told him that I clearly explained how I wanted it and it's his job to put it where I want it. I even had to remind him to settle down and that he needs to remember that I'm the customer here. They need to train that guy on how to do his job. He set a very bad example for PODS. But the other two people who came to deliver the pod were great.
I was done with it almost immediately and I called PODS to ask if they could get it sooner. The customer service rep who handled that call told me upfront that I’m getting put on a wait list. And if they can get to me sooner, then they will. If they can’t, then I have to wait a week with a pod in front of my house, which the HOA frowns upon. But the two gentlemen who came to pick it up were outstanding.
I'm a retired military guy, and I moved 20 times in my life. And I've done a lot of those moves myself. In other times, I've hired people to do them. So, I have a good background on how a good move should be. PODS didn't start well, but it ended up very well for me. Overall, the experience was fine but with glitches. If you're fortunate to get everything to go right, then you're gonna have a good overall experience.

I called up PODS, talked to somebody on the phone, and then they communicated by email. They let you know everything upfront. They charge you in stages. It was just nice to do business with a smart company. The same man dropped off the pod and picked it up here in Birmingham. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I live on an incline in Birmingham, and they made it clear that they couldn't deliver past a certain incline. He looked up the alley in the back of my house and in the front of the house to decide where the pod could go, and he placed it seamlessly. I had to change a pick-up time, and it was all done online.
When I got to my sister's house out in Texas, the container came a couple of days later because it was Memorial Day weekend. They didn't deliver over the holiday, which was no big deal. The guy out in Texas was really nice and he delivered it. My sister was just dreading this. But it was just so nice. She couldn't believe it either.
Whether you want a long-term storage or to move something across country, just do it yourself. It's just so much better than renting a U-Haul rental truck with the price of fuel and driving 800 miles. PODS has a machine that they take the pods off the truck, and the whole thing is just so smart. It looks like something from Star Wars coming in and doing the delivery. It was just interesting to watch.
PODS is a terrific company. It's such a great idea, what they do, and it's so convenient for the consumer. Compared to the cost of moving, which I've moved a couple of kids out of college in the last five years, it's so cost-efficient too. I've moved things out there before with moving companies 15 years ago. The cost was more to move a couple of twin beds and bedside table and some lamps with the moving company on a small partial load than it was to load up two or three times the stuff in my yard or my driveway over a couple of days with PODS and then they just ship it out and just deliver it. The whole thing is just seamless.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Melissa! Moving cross-country is no easy feat, and we're glad we could support you along the way. Your recommendation means the world to us!

I needed a long-distance move of smaller items and PODS could get a smaller container. I could pack it myself and it was easier than driving stuff out myself in a truck. So that's what I did. Booking the pod was very easy. The customer service agent listened to my needs and hooked me up with the service and the dates that I needed very nicely. I was a Costco member, so the customer service rep was able to work with me on the pricing. So, I was very satisfied with the booking.
I got the 8 x 12 pod, which is the smallest one and it got delivered to my new location exactly when it was supposed to. All I had to do was unload it when I got there. It arrived in good condition, and it was clean and the door was fine. It was perfect. But I never want to do a move again. I'm not a young person and it was still hard moving all my stuff in and out of the pod. But once I got there, that was hard too. I probably don't want to do it again because I had to do all that lifting myself. I could have hired somebody to do that.
Price-wise, the price was more than I wanted to spend. But when I took into consideration the price of a long-distance move and my own driving, my own wear and tear on my vehicle, and paying for a hotel along the way, it seemed to be reasonable. PODS is an option if you have stuff you need to move or store. I have remodeled my own home in the past and I'm thinking the pod would have been a nice thing to have to put all your stuff while you're remodeling. I did not have that luxury back then. So, it's a good option because you have control of what's in it and how you can get in it. I understand that if you're not moving, PODS will store it at a facility nearby where you live and you can get access to it anytime also. So that's nice too.
The promptness of the delivery surprised me because I was wondering if the team was going to show up on time, take it on the day they said, and deliver it on the day they promised. But that all worked out very well. I had a bunch of stuff to move that was spread all over my house and another house and I got it all into the pod. Once it was taken away, I had all of that off my plate. It was out of my house and on its way. When it arrived, I was happy to have it, and that was very good. Right away, I knew this was going to be okay. The PODS team sent lots of communication through emails, texts, and calls. If anything needed to be changed, I got the impression that it was not a problem. I could just send a text or make a call, and they would take care of it. The drivers were very considerate and nice people. They took very good care of both driveways and landscaping and didn't destroy anything that I had on my outdoor property.
We're grateful for your kind words and your choice to share your experience with PODS, Ellen. Thank you!

PODS is, by far, one of the best companies I've ever experienced being a customer for. Holistically, they far exceeded my expectations. I'm a former business executive, retired now, and I've managed a lot of different facets of logistics and supply chain and other things of that nature. Some of the things that I was involved in in my career was moving and storage. The component and the business sector that PODS seems to control right now, they have a mastery of. Not only that, but all of their people are extremely personable, treat everybody very nicely, and understand the stresses of moving, especially for older folks. I'm 60-plus.
Having them dropped on my driveway, it was a daunting task to look at them and say, "Well, I'm going to load them and all that." But it was an easy process. They were easy to load and access. They had more than enough space for me. They were clean and waterproofed. they were picked up and dropped off within the windows of time that they were requested. They accommodated me on a special request and didn't charge me. They did all the things that you would expect a great American company to do. For that, I was pretty grateful.
It's nice to see that companies like that can provide service without any hesitation to look at conditions or other things of that nature. They just provided service and they provided a superior one and it didn't matter what my condition was or their condition was. They came out, they did it, and they did it well. Their driver was outstanding. His name was Mike. There was another gentleman who stepped in one day. But anybody who was involved was extremely knowledgeable.
PODS was extremely innovative. the system that they use on the truck. I'm an old air freight guy. So back in the day, when I was loading 747s and wide bodies at Chicago O'Hare for my career, I would have loved to have one of those podzillas in a larger size to load flat beds full of MD-11 air pallets. But that is what it was. It was nice to see that and it's great to see that you're all over the country as far as PODS is concerned. But my experience is top-notch. My customer experience was in the top 1%.
We hope you’re enjoying your new home! We’re so glad to have been part of your moving journey! We’d love if you shared your experience with PODS with your friends! We want to make as many families’ moves as smooth as possible.

I used PODS to move from California to Colorado. I used Costco discount so received the total of $426.65+$2739.97 = $3,166.62. For some reason, PODS just stored my container in Milpitas, CA for about 2 weeks. I called them to transport to Colorado, then received $320 discount for the confusion. I paid for both feels. After my container was delivered to my Colorado home, PODS sent me another invoice for $1082 for transit which I paid. I called to find out the issue and PODS confirmed that my Costco discount got taken off and I "agree to it". Because my discount got taken off, I am being charged another $1082. Why would I agree to take off a discount? Now, they are sending $1082 to collection. Their advocacy billing won't even listen.

Jun 10 at 12:58 PM Message Body. PODS was a total nightmare for us. I cannot stress enough how bad they screwed us. I really hope this helps someone else to steer clear. Once they have your credit card it becomes open season and they will rack up your bill. I have about 16 invoices and statements on my account. Customer support will promise you over and over again the problems will be corrected but the majority of the time they didn't follow through and it will cost you! We moved from Massachusetts to Florida and we were originally invoiced for $3626.
By the end of this nightmare the entire bill came to $4500, over 24 phone calls and countless emails to customer service, managers, some PODS advocacy group which was a joke. They dropped a cancelled container and went ahead and charged me for this POD they assured me wasn't being delivered. Corporate couldn't get in touch with local and you don't have any contact for the local supplier. PODS corporate literally told me the supplier wouldn't answer the phone and to call them back. A $1 billion company stated this to me. After picking up the original packed POD the supplier didn't deliver it to the POD storage in Florida that would deliver it to my new home.
I called and was assured it was coming. They never delivered it on May 28 and when I called was told it was still in Massachusetts due to a scheduling error, and they would expedite it to me. That Massachusetts supplier charged me for two months storage for their Error. I had paid movers who help me move. I am disabled and really counted on movers. I lost all the money I paid the movers and it wasn't cheap. I was without my furniture and other belongings until June 11th. Imagine being in your new home and it's practically vacant, no furniture, ordering out and going to restaurants to feed yourself, and much more. That's two weeks we should have been enjoying Florida wasted by PODS.
We are being charged two monthly rental fees by the Pods Storage company which made the redelivery error for 6/4-7/3. They charged us for the prior month and now they are charging us again for their error scheduling issue so it's not really compensation when taken into consideration. We also have a charge for the cancelled container which wasn't to be delivered and this is after I called and customer service twice which promised me this cancelled container would not be delivered.
The payments withdrawn for our credit card has reached over $4500 which is almost a thousand dollars more than the original quoted price. We hadn't even received our Pod before all these charges. It appears everyone is having a field day with charges to our card, and we are waiting for the next pods supplier to charge us more. I'm waiting for the Pods facility in the location in Florida to begin their turn charging us for monthly storage charges due to the delivery mistakes.
I tried to resolve this before we have to shut off our credit card. It would have been nice if we could have resolved the extra charges to return to the originally agreed price for their error in scheduling, the late delivery, the money we lost paying for movers who were here to unload the originally agreed upon 5/28 redelivery date, the charges for the errors dropping off the cancelled 2nd pod plus storage charges for that pod from the Franklin MA facility. They offered me a paltry sum for compensation which still left me paying for their mistakes. I did my best to resolve these issues with PODS and finally I had to give up.

PODs made a fraudulent charge, canceled the service, will not refund. PODs has charged me $3049 for a service I explicitly said I do not authorize. The service has now been canceled, but customer service will not refund the payment, connect me with a manager, or remove the method of billing to prevent this from happening again. It has been the worse experience using PODS. They keep moving the dates for pick up and drop off of containers. The most recent infraction…Not showing up at all to pick up a container they put on my front lawn. They never called to notify me…Just an automated email saying my delivery has been rescheduled a week later!!! Their customer service is out of the Philippines, so you will never get a person that is located in your state, let alone where your PODS' belongings are actually located. I will never use PODS again and will never recommend them to anyone. You are left helpless and beholden to them, it has been very disheartening.

Complete failure of customer service. Pods is fine if you are simply picking up a unit or storing it. But Pods customer service. Even the simplest matters go through an almost unworkable phone/message system. I spent hours arranging and scheduling a simple visit to the facility to retrieve items—and the place was locked up with no one there to help. Waited an hour and a half and made multiple calls to every phone number Pods lists. Two hours later received a call back during which Pods admitted their mistake. Pods “customer support” couldn’t care less. Very disappointing.

The staff at the Wilsonville, OR, facility were particularly helpful and awesome. Tip: Pack your items so they won't fall against the door of the PODS container. When I accessed my container at the PODS facility, the forklift driver, Chris, helped me out by getting the PODS door open with a little quick maneuvering. I highly recommend PODS for convenience -- be sure to plan the pick up accurately so you're ready when the Podzilla comes to collect your container. Great company!

Do not trust this company with an interstate or cross-country move. I had a 16-foot container booked and fully confirmed for a major relocation. On the exact morning of my move—with my entire life packed into boxes and a hard deadline to vacate my home—PODS unilaterally canceled my service. Their customer service team offered zero immediate solutions or replacement containers, leaving me completely stranded. Because of their same-day failure to perform, I was forced to scramble and pay thousands of dollars in inflated, last-minute premiums for emergency alternative truck rentals, labor, and lodging.
A same-day cancellation for a cross-country move causes extreme, undue logistical and financial hardship. PODS showed a complete lack of accountability for the emergency they created. I am currently demanding full reimbursement for my out-of-pocket losses. Save yourself the nightmare and stress—look elsewhere for your moving needs.
