I have a CD that matures 3/28/26, sent them several emails. Was told to wait for 10 days. Since nobody responded to my email or request for closure, in the meantime my CD will not have interest in it, currently it paid $.01 for interest. There is no instruction as to closing it other than an email.

We called you today on 03/05/2026 at 1018 am and I spoke to Patrick ** who apparently was very rude on the phone. He would not tell me if he was a loan advisor and stated "Why are you calling me" in a rude tone. He was very unprofessional. I was inquiring information regarding a home loan. I will never call this business again and I will inform anyone and everyone that I know to not call this branch or Mr ** due to the serious lack of professionalism.

    In 2020, I asked the bank (then New York Community Bank) to help me set up a fiduciary account for my father, to receive his monthly VA pension benefit. At no time did the woman I dealt with inform me of the necessity of listing a beneficiary. As a result, when my father passed away in 2022, the balance of his account is now being held by Flagstar, and I’m told that only a probate court can have it released. A lawyer has also informed me, that the cost to go through the probate process will far exceed the rather small balance being held.

    For two years the bank has held this money, and every quarter I get a statement to remind me that it’s still in their possession. They're keeping my father’s money because a bank agent I trusted to set up the account did NOT act in her customer's best interests. A check of his other account would have shown that I was listed as his beneficiary. A competent agent would have done the same.

    About a year ago I called the customer service line and explained this problem to an agent who promised to look into it and get back to me. He never did. Really despicable way to conduct business. They could have simply used common sense and released the money. Now in the process of moving to another bank. I don’t consider Flagstaff to be a reputable business.

    As of the end of February, I still haven't received my 1099-INT form for an online savings account that I closed in early January. I have so far called the bank 3 times regarding this matter.

    My elderly father had an IRA at this bank. I took him in to get his RMD at which time he signed paperwork to withhold 10% tax. He just received his 1099r showing that there was nothing paid for federal taxes. I called the bank requesting a corrected 1099 from and they suggested that I just submit the paperwork we had with his tax return. I insisted that they mail my father a corrected form only to receive a call a few days later stating that the federal tax withholding was never processed and "they're sorry". Now we have to go through the process of contacting his accountant and requesting that he do additional work in filing for a waiver of the penalty that my father could potentially face given that his account will show that he took less than what the RMD should have been. The people at the bank have no idea what they're doing.

    After 35 years of being a loyal customer and now having to get the runaround, have to go into the bank because I can’t remember a password form over 30 years ago, but yet asked a security question and then asked a different way gave her the answer and she locked my account because I didn’t answer the 1st time but the 2nd time!! Now having to go into a branch that now closes at 5! So get off early or have your account locked until the weekend can’t to do anything and also waiting 2-5 day for your paycheck to be cleared is absolutely insane!!

    RUN, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK. I opened a CD, sent the money by wire to the bank. When the CD matured, NOV 13th, I asked the funds be Wired back to me. They could not do that. I then asked the funds be sent overnight or 2day mail, the cost of which I agreed to pay for, but they could not do that. Instead they used regular mail, on December 1st, it is now January 8th, that check has never arrived. Even though two other correspondence about this check have.

    On 12/29 they agreed to expedite a new check; but instead of receiving a check today I got a form to complete...and have notarized; to request a stop payment on THEIR check. And me to agree to PAY them $36 to process the stop payment! So nearly 2 months later; I don't have my funds; and looks like it will cost ME $$ to accomplish that...and still they won't send the funds by overnight mail. It's like a flashback to 1970. RUN, RUN, NO CD RATE IS WORTH THIS HASSLE....I JUST WANT MY MONEY!!!

    This is by far the WORST bank I have ever dealt with. Run! Do not open an account here. I was trying to log into my mobile banking app and it said my account could not be validated due to them being unable to verify my identity. I tried to call customer service, and of course there were “technical issues” with their call center. The next day I called the bank again, got thru after a 23 minute wait with only 2 callers ahead and got some foreigner, she was useless. I then called back again and asked to speak to a supervisor and after 5 minutes of having to argue with this person on why I wanted to speak to a supervisor she finally connected me to one.

    Again another person who was not American or competent in doing her job. Because of the login issues I was having due to their poorly functioning mobile banking app, I could not get into my account to see my account number and relay that to this CSR. They then locked my account preventing me all access to my money! It’s 5 days before Christmas and I will be held up untiI I can go to the bank first thing on Monday and take my money out. Avoid this bank like the plague. No wonder they got sued in a class action lawsuit for 31.5 million dollars. Oh! They also don’t tell you that this is a bank called New York community bank, that’s the main name they fall under. Never again. They need to be shut down permanently!

    Absolutely the Worst Customer Service in the industry, they place 10-14 day holds with no reason from no checks randomly. Talk to 10 people that have no idea why MY money is on hold. One story after another that does NoT add up only for reasons to change as each day goes on. One day to the next same story, different story, that person is gone for the next week, I can’t do anything about it. They turn off my facial recognition daily (What is the point). Turn off my facial recognition and Stop my password from working. I’ll call and they’ll say, "You were out of country." I’ll say I put it in the app where and when I’m going and for how long.

    Text get shut off on me yesterday, nobody followed up. Just shut me off in a foreign country! Requested call back! Never got it! Bank has operating hours by phone like it’s the 70’s. Outdated, understaffed, not open for emergencies! Cut you off with zero care or concern. Now they want me to call for 1.89$ a minute to sit on hold waiting for complete incompetence to answer to other end. Done with business and personal account. I’ll Stick with Chase, Citizens, Bank of America.

    Suggest Banking Elsewhere. Dealing with a family member in hospice trying to get banking beneficiaries and Will aligned before death. Went into another bank and within minutes had most of what was needed - Balances, Account Info, and most important Beneficiary Designations. Then went into Flagstar and the senior member at the branch confirmed the LPOA was in order - dated, signed, notarized, etc. BUT claimed that a central signoff was required which he communicated and "red flagged" due to the hospice situation. 72 hours later Flagstar has provided nothing. Key takeaway, Bank elsewhere - customer service is a failure, especially in a time of family need. How can one bank do in minutes what Flagstar has failed to do in three days! Shameful.

    I have attempted to change my telephone number with them for weeks. I can’t get to my online account without updating my phone number. When you call customer service you get someone overseas that does not understand why you can't possibly receive a text or a call for the code …. When you ask to speak to someone in America after getting your call dropped 3 times you’re called a racist… It’s been weeks. I’ve emailed, faxed, and mailed in my request as advised. It’s an online only high yield savings account that I can now not get my life savings out.

    My last ditch effort was to see if I can do a transfer over the phone to my external account that I have linked to my account online. I was told they couldn't verify me which they attempted to do with my account number (only last 4 are on statement and I never received paperwork with my entire account number on it EVER), with my debit card number (again it's a high yield savings account and does not have a debit card) or by phone (the whole reason I'm in this mess). I don’t know what more to do and will need to find a lawyer to help me. DO NOT BANK HERE. YOU'LL NEVER SEE YOUR MONEY AGAIN.

    I would give zero stars, if possible. Avoid this bank and do yourself a big favor.
    1. This bank tries to accept any incoming amount, but block external transfers using badly designed processes. So, don't fall for their attractive rates.

    2. This is the real kicker: when you do an external transfer, they don't check the transfer right away, like many banks do. They send an email hours later to verify through an email. You need to be at the computer or checking your email all the time. Most of the time, it goes into your junk mail, and you wouldn't even notice it. Then they will cancel the transfer after about 1 hour if they don't get the verification. The process is intentionally designed in such a way to block customer money and keep the money with the bank.

    Don’t use their app. Or make sure your bank card is connected to both checking and savings. It seems they love to randomly do app maintenance on the weekends when the banks are closed and you can’t pull out money. Where if your car's on E and you didn’t see the notice you’re cooked. Will give them the benefit of the doubt. Most times they do it overnight. But the issues will remain into the day. Such as 12/7/25 a Sunday. It’s currently 5:35 pm. Banks have been closed since yesterday and I still cannot access the bank app. They said 12/7 @ 3am the app would be back up. 14 hours ago..

    This happens more often than it should. My car has 90 miles till empty. “Pull money out at an atm.” I would but I locked my card to only my checking and my money's in my savings and again I can’t access the app :). Also despite all the updates and fixes they do. The app is the exact same as before. Every time. It’s like they’re lying about actually fixing it for whatever reason or benefit they get from it lmao. Idk. Go find a better bank. I hope you came here and read this before going with them. I hope you’re here to genuinely get real reviews. Because here’s one. :) Good day.

    This is one of the worst banks I have ever dealt with. They have denied for no reason all almost 80% of card transactions made online. When I called they said they fraud alert they take it off. Same minute it happens again. This has happened over 6 times over the past couple days. I can’t use my own money or shop online here.

    Extremely frustrating that you cannot reach customer service on Sunday. Plus you can verify an external bank account but when you try to do an online transfer, it says cannot verify account. Then there’s also the issue that you cannot see account details online, even with the app. Things like interest rates, etc. you cannot open an account online. You have to call to get approval to transfer over a certain amount into your account. Seems there are just too many hoops to jump through to do anything. I’m moving my $$ out.

    Horrible Banking Services. You will have to wait for the response from the secure message team for more than 5 days for account closure and then you will have to wait for another 7 business days to receive your funds post maturity of your CD account. Literally they are holding your funds with for at least without any interest. In this era, they are stating you can't transfer external funds unless you have their savings amount.

    It is not easy to get your money back when CD matured and it was open in Flagstar through Bank Direct. There is a choice to send a e-message, but nobody responding. The phone is no help too since it asked for phone conversation access code that was never given to me when I opened CD.

    This is the most dysfunctional out of date and slowest system I have ever seen. Almost every week they have an online issue since all their IT work is run by ** in India. Their system is complicated as well as slow and there is no consistency between their staff. I strongly suggest keeping away from this bank as there are no benefits or anything worth wasting time with them.

    I had auto pay set up through my bank for my mortgage. There were changes in the amount required to go into escrow, so my payment went up a few bucks. I was never notified of the escrow change, so I paid too little for 3 months in a row, and they reported it to the credit bureau without ever contacting me first. I spoke to the customer service manager and all she did was lie the whole time.

    Horrible bank. Did promotion for direct deposit. Ssa sent letter saying it would take a couple of months to switch. It went passed the promotion date and showed them the letter and would not give me the bonus. I withdrew 50,000 in savings, and 250,000 in cds. Their loss all the way around.

    I have so many problems with this bank that I can never do what I need to do because of deficiencies in their system. First of all, I never signed up with Flagstar bank, I was sold off to them by Wells Fargo while I was assigned for work in Houston Texas where there is no Flagstar Bank or ATM machine. That was problem number one. For years I have never seen an ATM machine or used one for Flagstar bank. Recently I finally used one for the first time. Unfortunately I accidentally left my ATM card in the machine. And I know with 100% certainty that's where I left it. Of course they told me they couldn't tell me for a week if it was there and when I did call after that they said their people never found one. I know they found it because I know that's where I left it so they lost my debit card.

    Then I had to replace the debit card, that was a month ago, I still have never received the replacement debit card I ordered on the phone with flagstar. Next, the online app is a piece of crap. It doesn't matter which browser I'm using or if I'm using the app or a browser, I can never log in to my account. The passwords are forgotten constantly, and even if I do have passwords it just sits there and says it can't process at this time, that's been a problem for months.

    Finally, I can't seem to use Zelle... and nobody at Flagstar can explain why. I can receive money, but if I send it, it's blocked I have to call the phone number and when I call the phone number nobody knows why I have to call the phone number and can do anything about it. So everything I've tried to send through zelle has just never been sent. I highly recommend you look for a different bank. These are just too many problems for One Bank to post to its customers. Especially for customers that were forced onto the bank and didn't choose them themselves

    I wish I could give less. To start with. Waited for 47min just to talk with someone. Then when it's finally my turn rep is beyond rude. Explained to her "I just transferred some money to another external account but it hasn't shown up yet. Is there a waiting time for transfers?" Her response was "That's not my problem". Situation didn't improve and still waiting for a response from management. Hahaha that'll never happen. WORST BANK EVER.

    I have been banking with Flagstar Bank for over 10 years. They let my account go negative due to 2 fraudulent charges. I don't even have overdraft protection. They assured me one charge would be posted back to my account and it didn't. Terrible customer service they have no answers to help you and they lie. They always have data breaches. I will be moving bank asap. Still waiting on their fraud department to call me. Absolutely unacceptable.

    I have held my deposits with Flagstar for 10 years and am finally moving my funds from this awful place. Whatever you do, please do not bank with them. They have data breaches almost every year and because of this they have had to send me multiple apology notices and issue me new cards because they can't keep their information safe. I also get frequent spam calls from scammers using their phone numbers to try and get banking information, and I assume they have my number and know I bank with Flagstar due to their data breaches.

    The customer service is terrible as well, my new card that I had to receive because my old card data was leaked by Flagstar was never delivered to me and I went to report it missing and they would not help me as I did not have the 3 digit code for the card... that I had not yet received! Despite giving them all my other personal info to verify it was me. Save yourself the headache and bank with places that actually can hold your info and money safely, and ones that offer actual benefits unlike Flagstar.

    Flagstar Bank is awful. I opened a HELOC with a credit rating of 824 for the purpose of paying medical expenses and I will admit I really didn't shop it around thinking a bank is a bank but, wow I wrong. The online system to make payments out of is a joke. I had to open a second checking account and have the CC person connect it to my HELOC account so I can make draws out of my HELOC thru the checking in the form of an external transfer even though the HELOC system has all the check boxes and form for external transfers built right into it.

    Every single transaction I initiated has taken sometimes 4 days, sometimes 3 days, sometimes 8 days, AND that is if it works at all. There was a period of about 4 months that did not function at all. Required me to spend time on the phone with customer care to get the transactions to initiate manually. The down stream effect is now I am causing late fees and overdrafts because my external transactions are processed so erratically. The only reason I have not relocated to my other bank is because it would cost me another 3k for loan initiation fees, Otherwise I have learned my lesson with Flagstar.

    I open my online savings account ($260K+) on 08/01/2024 and I knew I could not touch the funds for 6 months. But it is a year later and I am trying to with withdraw funds for the purchase of a home. Unable to get my account # online or through customer service; WTF?.They say that they are limiting to withdrawing $10k/week but a max cap of $40K/mo. which would take me over 6 mos to clear the account out; WTF??? Nobody could tell me where these restrictions were in the original application; this is a saving account!!! It is likely that I will lose the contract on my future home and there is a potential that the sellers may keep my deposit!

    I made the complaint over 4 days ago to increase the withdrawal amount to $50K/week (just trying to get out of this mess) but it has been 4 business day with no response. I called again today and they told me it is in review and to go to a regional office but that is not possible as there are no local branches in the MA/NH area. Again, this is an online SAVINGS account account!! I fulfilled my obligation to keep the fund with them for 6 months but that expired more than 6 months ago.

    Definitely the worst bank in the United States. They only care about themselves not their customers. They lie so much it is irritating. I do have a mortgage account with them and I applied for mortgage assistance three to six times. Got approved every time. Flagstar said something was coming in the mail. Nothing came. How can I sign something when nothing comes? DO NOT BANK WITH FLAGSTAR. SWITCH TO CAPITAL ONE (HIGHLY RECOMMEND).

    Stay away from this company. They bought out my mortgage and I've had nothing but trouble from them. Customer service is horrible and the staff are incompetent. I send my payments via online banking. My bank sends them a check every month to the same address. Someone at Flagstar misplaced my check and it was fraudulently cashed. They took no accountability. As a result it took months to get the money back which resulted in them reporting me to the credit bureau as 30 days late every month since they were posting my monthly payment for the previous month.

    There is nobody available in the credit reporting dept other than via email. I've submitted documentation twice as evidence and I keep getting a generic letter that refuses to correct it. My mortgage has since been sold to another company thank goodness, however my credit has been ruined at no fault of mine. I'm going to be forced to seek legal action to get it corrected. I've never experienced such poor service from a company.

    I have been stuck for over 6 months with their insurance claim process where they have kept sending my insurance claim check back to me. After going through their process they have still sent it back to me. When I called in the last time they told me it was a mistake and that it should have been endorsed and sent back to me. They then told me they were selling my mortgage to another bank and would no longer be able to endorse the check for me. So now I need to restart the entire process with the new lender.

    Flagstar Bank is a complete crook of an institution! Take your money and business to a more credible and legit bank. Just because they are FDIC insured, doesn’t mean anything. They will take your money, take your interest earned if you withdraw money before the month is over, charge you exorbitant fees such as charging you to see a monthly statement and a $30 fee just to close your account. Read the fine print before signing up for anything with them or better yet, move onto another financial institution and don’t waste your time or money with Flagstar.

    So I've never really had a problem at Flagstar Bank until today. I needed to have a school permission slip notarized for myself and my son, who is a minor, and because he doesn't have an account, they would not notarize the document, which is crazy to me. It would make more sense if they had said it was because he doesn't have a state ID, but refusing because he doesn't have an account there is absurd. I'll keep his account at Capital One for sure. Service like that makes me not want to recommend it to him or anyone else.

    Flagstar has the worst online banking!! Half the time you can’t log in. Sometimes it works if I change my password but I shouldn’t have to keep changing my password!! When I call customer service they can’t give me a reason as to why this keeps happening. Ever since they merged with NYCB so many changes and not for the better!! I will be closing my accounts!

    Currently in the process of selling my home, we are doing an assumption. Flagstar has been absolutely unresponsive to my buyers and I. We ask for updates or if anything else is needed for the buyers to be able to assume my loan and take over the payments. We have contacted the assumptions department NUMEROUS time to no avail. I am currently late to my deployment because of their delays and their unwillingness to even help out. We were told documents would be reviewed within 48 to 72 hours and we are not on day 7 with no updates. We were supposed to close 0n 10/18/2024 and we are still waiting on underwriting to finalize documents.

    I am late to my deployment and have to keep doing special requests because they will not speed up our FHA assumption or provide us with any dates. And to make matters worse I can't get my family into our new home before I deploy due to Flagstar dragging their feet and no one trying to help out at all. I would like for them to reach out and assist to close this assumption by the end of the week as we have been in escrow since late August.

    OMG I despise this bank. I called them when they attempted to take money from my account during the middle of the week and the useless customer service representative told me I am good to go and that my next payment was in the next 2 months. OK cool, I thought I had nothing to worry about since I've paid an extra month in advance. Fast forward October, they cancelled my auto pay and now I'm being charged a late fee. I've enrolled in auto pay because I have a busy life and want to avoid any penalties. Can wait to leave this stupid bank and get my loan through someone else. Never heard of them prior to the previous loan company selling my loan to them. A bunch of rip offs.

    Updated on 10/10/2024: Update to Flagstar Review. I knew they would do nothing. They have no customer service experience at all. They only care about themselves not their customers. I tried working with them to get my payment account back opened because it was their mistake and they cannot take ownership of their mistake. They left me no choice. I had to report them to the BBB. All they had to do was unblock my account and credit me $3000. Now, I am asking for more because of their negligence.

    Original: I would give it zero stars. They blocked my account because of a returned payment. I checked with my bank and there was no issue. I called Flagstar and asked them the real reason. They could give me none. I asked them to remove the block and they are still saying no and it is their fault and they do not want to admit it. I do not trust them at all.

    I have been a depositor at Flagstar Bank for about 8 years. I opened my first account back when they were called New York Community Bank. I have never had a bad experience with them! They have some of the highest interest rates available on Savings and CD's. I like that their CD's to not auto-renew, so that I don't have to worry about missing the window to transfer the money out before it gets locked in again. I can easily and quickly transfer funds in and out of my accounts online. I can even setup scheduled transfers to my accounts with other banks. Which is great because I can keep most of my funds in my very high yield savings and have monthly transfers setup to go into my US Bank checking to pay monthly bills. I don't know about their customer service because I have never had to deal with them.

    If I could give Flagstar 0 stars I would. Do not voluntarily use this bank. They took months to pay our hazard insurance. They paid our other insurance in September, and they didn't tell us until the following May. Which resulted in us being 12k short in our escrow. Lack of communication. Horrible mortgage bank
