Bought into the idea of free deposits. Worst mistake I've made shopping. The very first card I bought, wouldn't active. So I bought another one and another. The 5th card did the trick! But not until after I had to call their service line to get it started. Then I rescheduled the cap so I couldn't even use it for a whole month. Now they've got my cards locked with my money on them. I'm totally screwed. Serve is by far the worst. I look forward to throwing away all the cards on the shelf that say 'Serve' so no one has to go thru what I did.

NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! PURCHASE ONE OF THESE CARDS. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. It will not approve you when you register and only allow online and store purchases. I am at a cashless resort and unable to use this crappy card and customer service is garbage!!!

Received this as a gift card last year, never used it. Literally just took it out the packaging. Kept declining my order so I thought I needed to activate it. Called the number, they said it was permanently closed and $0 balance. I stated it was never used. The lady said OK it's closed. I just hung up annoyed. Please stop giving these random gifts cards as gifts to people. Pick a store you know they like or stick to VISA

I have been using Serve for many years and I had an issue all of the time. Sometimes it seemed like money was missing without making a transaction. My husband recently bought a prepaid card and happen to choose Serve. Sure enough, I had difficulty activating the card. I tried to purchase some shoes from Macy's and it declined twice. I called the customer service where they seem not to want to pronounce my name correctly, and they decided to authorize the purchase. Unfortunately, they authorized one transaction twice and left me with no money. I now have to wait 3-8 to use the nearly $100 only online. Don't waste your time buying this prepaid card. Stay with Visa or Mastercard!!!!

This card is useless. I put 90 on the card to pay my star link bill. Immediately it was 80 cents lower than than the 90 I had loaded in the card. You can not get money off the card or add more so it is useless for paying the bill. And I can not get my money back so now can not pay my bill. Upon calling the prepaid card customer service I get a woman who was talking to other people in the office laughing and not even trying to acknowledge my issue. She was rude and very unhelpful. I will never have an American Express card again prepaid or otherwise. I normally use Visa or Master card and have never had any problems with them.

Do not buy this card as this crappy supposedly pay as you go card is nothing but a sham/scam put on by American Express. This company will let you transfer money from your regular bank account to this card to fill the card but they will not let you transfer the money out of this account and transfer it back to your regular account that you used to transfer money into the card account. I called them this morning Sunday November 3rd 2024 and told them I wanted to close my account as I do not use the account and I had $11.49 in it. They would not let me close my account they told me that they also would not transfer the money out or they would not mail me a check for the money that is in the account.

I told them I cut the card up because I do not use the account and they told me the only way I can get the money out as I would have to use the card to charge something for the remaining balance. They told me that they would have to charge me $5 for a new card in order for me to charge the remaining account balance in order to close the account. Do not buy this card. I repeat once again do not buy this card!!! I would not have given them one star but they make you give at least one star. TOTAL SCAM PUT ON BY AMERICAN EXPRESS!!!!

I used my card to book a hotel. Upon checking out, the Hotel released the deposit back to my card. It has been 21 days and Serve is still holding the deposit. The representative at Serve said that even though the hotel refunds the deposit upon checking out, Serve doesn’t refund the money back to my account until 30 days. This is ridiculous. Do not use this card for Hotels or Car Rental!!!

I have a had a Serve account for over 5 yrs. and haven't had really any issues BUT Customer Service in INDIA! They don't understand me, and I can barely understand them. I don't understand why we have to resort to them?? They are rude and can't answer questions that they should know. I am thinking really serious about letting them go. Just got off the phone trying to change my email address. I ask why I can't do it online; he said No, you have to call us. They ask you over and over again for all of your personal info, that they already have.

I got this card for my son to use to make an online purchase on a game. It would not let him use the money on the card and then charged him a $9.95 monthly fee just to have the card that he wasn't even able to use. I called customer service and was told the store should have told me about the hidden fees. I feel completely scammed.

I have money on this card that I can't get off. I have call Serve several times and they still told me the same thing. Try to transfer it into my bank account and it will not go. American Express card is no good at all. Tried it at ATMs. Still I cannot get my money off the card.

Be extremely careful when using this card. I would not suggest Serve at all. Very disappointed. Somebody was able to hack into my account and change email address and home address. I spoke the Fraud department would do nothing because they couldn't verify me with changed email address. Finally after I sent in the paperwork for verification my account was unlocked and my money was returned to my account. So I made a transaction and my account was hacked same day. Again which left my account at 0. After dozens of attempts to work with the fraud department. Still no resolution yet. I truly think it is a inside job! I am going to contact Consumer Protection Bureau to do an investigation. There are way too many reviews about the same issues to be a isolated issue.

Terrible service. It is ridiculous... I chose to get my tax money to this account because they promised to receive it 2 -3 days earlier, It was such a terrible mistake, and now I have been trying for 2 weeks to get my money out of that account. It is impossible, the app or website always says it is not possible for no reason. I try to communicate with Serve and it is always an automated menu that won't let me speak to a real person. Please, do not make the mistake of using this account for taxes or anything at all.

I have been using them for years, never had a problem. I love my card. Easy to use, never had to call customer service. When I send a direct deposit to it before 1:30 pm et, it’s always available same day by 10 pm.

Three years ago, I purchased a Serve card, just to do online purchases. My thought was places I didn’t trust, wouldn’t have my banking info. Well first it took two months to activate, then there was no place funds could be loaded. I tried to transfer from my checking account, no, I opened a new bank account thinking it was the issue, still no. I called and was promised a new card. Nothing. I thought it might be a glitchy system and tried axing this week. The account was closed for inactivity. I bought the card, and now I can’t even get the amount I paid for the card back, because there was “no balance available “. This was a total rip-off, a part of the reason I went prepaid was to see how they were before I actually applied for a credit card. I will never recommend American Express to anyone and I will never use any of their products.

Some people use prepaid certain times a year for shopping with vendors they don’t know/trust, so the card might sit until Christmas time. I should not have to reapply every nine months. I have prepaid Visa cards that are as old as my grown children(24), That still work as long as their expiration date is valid. I get a new chard ever so often, but that’s it. This was a complete waste of time and unnecessary drama trying to get activate, customer service was no help, and I am not even sure I spoke to a supervisor as the two agent sounded exactly alike. Don't waste your time.

The online registration failed. I called and was told it was it declined permanently. No explanation why. It wasn't a credit check issue. They don't do that. They're not allowed to manually register a card. They said to "use the card for local and online purchases within the U.S. Since the card is not registered no international purchases are allowed. You can't use it at ATMs or use it to transfer funds. Once the balance = $0 shred the card."

It’s a inside job…Been with them for years. Almost 2k took away from me. I put several disputes and they lock my account and stole everything. Don’t trust Serve…Use your own bank. Do not go with Serve card when you file taxes. They will steal it. It’s the customer service department. They leaking information.

Opened account over 10 years ago, never funded it, never used it and requested closure of the account. I called in today 7/30/2024 because I noticed I was still getting statement notices in my spam folder. I called in and sure enough my account was still open making me susceptible to fraud. Normally banks close accounts due to lack of activity and is irresponsible for Amex to allow such functionality. I called in to close the account but because I didn't have the CVV for the should have been expired card. They couldn't assist me then to make matters worse I was blocked from reaching customer service immediately afterwards.

I have used my Amex serve card for over 5 years with no problem. I was able to load my paycheck easily and withdraw the money for a fee which was ok. In May of this year (2024) they sent me an email saying that my account was suspended because of apparent fraud. Unaware I did not check my email and was able to still add my check to my card. When I went to withdraw the cash it declined. I called the customer service number on the card and the only thing I was told was that I had to write a letter. When I asked to who and why all I was given was an address. Long story short. They stole my money and I have never been reimbursed. I also am receiving emails from them saying my card balance is barely $5 well below the balance I should have. If my card is suspended and I can’t get my money back why bother.

On 12/24/2023 my card was compromised. I reported the card as stolen. I received the replacement card on 01/16/2024, and spoke with a rep for an hour to activate the card, and on 01/17/2024 the account was compromised again because the person that had my information called and changed everything back to them. I called to report the incident and was told to create a new email, and call back, and a new card will be sent. On 2/9/2024 I received the replacement, and when I called to activate the card they suspended my account. I sent the documents they requested to verify my identity, and it is now 07/18/2024, and the investigation is still not complete, and the only thing they keep saying is "Give us more time," and I still have not received my fund.

Do not get this card. I have had a Serve card for over 10 years. The system always goes offline you cannot access your money. Customer service can’t move money from savings to checking for you. You cannot access reserve accounts via Mac machine. Not worth the hassle.

For a company this large they make their money scamming the little people. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD. I paid $2.00 for the card when I registered the card I was denied an account so was told to use it as gift card and that I couldn't get my money off of it, just use up the funds and destroy the card. I only put $25 on the card, they still took a $8.09 monthly fee off the card even though I was denied an account and the card was not reloadable. This is the biggest scamming company I have ever encountered. It cost me $10.09 and to spend $17.00, how does that make sense!!!!

I was forced to get my tax return money via these clowns (or pay a significant fee for direct deposit) and it's been nothing but a hassle. They've sent me three cards so far, every time I call them to see what's going on they tell me to check my email and activate the account which I've done several times now and still not received the money. The customer service team is located somewhere deep within India and just an absolute joy to converse with! I don't know why the United States of America would choose this horrible company to dispense people's tax returns but thanks a lot guys!!! If you have a choice, DO NOT USE SERVE

Do not use these cards. I tried to register online, it didn’t work, I called the help line, they said to go to a store and buy a card, then it would work — so I did, then tried to register it and then again was unable to set up the account to manage the card. I called again and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Horrible product, horrible customer service.

I filed my taxes through TaxAct. Through them I wanted to get my refund sent to me as opposed to having a 3rd party access my bank account. TaxAct then had my refund put through to Republic Bank, which was supposed to send the funds to American Express Serve. American Express never sent me my refund. Instead, I was given a customer service number that tried to sell me a medical device. I was never connected to a live person that should have resolved this for me. They have an endless loop of people who ask for my social security number and never put me through to someone who can tell me what happened to my tax refund. I have not received my refund yet.

Will never use Serve again. Bought a card in Fredericksburg Va and loaded $320 on it then the reason I got it for fell through and I believed I was getting scammed so I called customer service and had the card locked and when I tried to unlock it I couldn't and I was flat out told when a card gets locked you lose your money. Basically telling me they couldn't or wouldn't reverse the hold put on it. Contacting CFPB and writing reviews of buyer beware every chance I get to do it. There is no accountability for companies anymore and something needs to change. This isn't the end and I hope you swindlers know it.

The reason I gave it a one-star is because I've had my card for over 8 years with them for the first time ever someone hacked my card and use almost $1,500 and after doing everything they told me to do telling me that they would give me my credit until the investigation is over when I did what they said they was going to do then they tell me that I'm not eligible for a credit which is 1400, that I'm out of for something that I did not do. I'm about to lose my place because of this and they don't care. All they kept doing is putting me through to representative to representatives and I do not think it's fair. I feel like it is very stereotypical. I feel like if I was someone else that my money would have been given back to me.

1st thing pay as you go. You should not have to get a account approved. It's pay as you go. If your account doesn't get approved you can't withdraw money off the card so this is where it's a scam. These was made so you don't have to go through this crap. Can't pull money out that you put on there. Then they say they don't take the dollar and the money sure goes quick. One time the merchant doesn't hold money. The next they hold over 58 dollars. Why is that? They could not answer. I would not recommend this card or any card affiliated with them. It's a scam.

No merchant at all accepts the card, they have a $7 or something monthly fee, customer support is non existent; every time I call the robot doesn't understand. I tried dialing in my SSN slow as possible and the bot didn't get it, card number too the bot just doesn't understand. The only way I found a way to use it was to withdraw the funds to my existing US bank account but now I can't even do that because I keep getting an error when I try logging in "Well, this is awkward. We’re experiencing some technical difficulties, please try again in a moment." It's been saying that for a month now..
