Worse service ever that I had to contact the CEO of Nationwide to get a response after an inspection at my house three weeks ago. After I contacted the CEO, three Nationwide representatives finally contacted me today. Looking for a new Homeowner's Insurance Company.

After 25 + years and paying approx $100,000 in premiums, they dropped us for having 2 small claims in 4 years. That is absolutely despicable. We should all band together and do a class action suit. They’re a bunch of crooks.

Nationwide is a joke! They will have you waiting and waiting to be denied. They do not contact customers in a timely manner and won’t follow through on their promises. When things get messy they will pass you along to someone else who knows absolutely nothing. Someone who will lie and string you along as long as possible. Long story short, we pay homeowners insurance but still have a significant amount of hail damage that our coverage should pay for but this is not the case. Run as fast as you can! They are not on your side.

Buyer beware. Had roof damage from hail. Nationwide did not send an adjuster, they sent someone from Seek Now who did a 360 degree view of the roof. We also had two professional roofers with BBB 5 star rating inspect the roof as well. They both said there was clearly hail damage. Nationwide called me and said the pictures provided did not show any damage. That was a bald face lie. They offered a settlement of $703. I told them to keep the money. Currently actively looking for their replacement. Do not believe that Nationwide is on your side, they are on their own side. Will not do business with them again and would suggest you don't either.

The only thing they are good at is handing out non-renewals. 37 year customer, very few & minor claims. Dropped like a hot potato after filing a roof damage claim and they would only pay for 1/2 the roof repair (who ever heard of such a thing!?!?). Can't get any info to the top dog CEO - told that the CS rep was it, they have no one higher. That's malarkey! I understand it's a business relationship, but it's like being stabbed in the back by someone you trusted. Do not insure with them. They used to be good - not anymore. Run!

After 42 years of service with Nationwide I had to file a claim after a chimney inspection said I had damage to my roof shingles. I contacted a reputable roofing company, and they showed me pictures of hail damage and found water damage in my sunroom. I called Nationwide and filed a claim. They sent some young kid out to take pictures (my inspector came and showed him what was going on) he took pictures and left. I have photos of hail damage to my flashing, vent and my shingles as well as water damage to my sunroom ceiling. Nationwide is trying to say that my flashing is hail damage, but my shingles aren't. How is that possible? Now I'm trying to fight with them.
I shouldn't have to fight with the company I pay monthly and have for 42 years. They have gotten so bad. I am very disappointed with them and will be looking for another insurance company. They used to be a great insurance company. 20 years ago, I had damage to my shingles, and they covered it with no questions... customer service is terrible now and they don't care about their customers. Shingles need replaced (they won't cover this), water damaged ceiling in sunroom needs replaced (bowed and stained), they are going to spray it with disinfectant - how will this fix the issue? Flashing and vent needs replaced - they will cover this.

Nationwide is not on your side. 30 years home and auto, no claims. A hail storm dinged up my roof and now a window leaks and I am not covered? I have video evidence and their own inspector said it was definitely hail damage. Neighbors with other insurance are getting new roofs and $. Now I am being told if I don't make the repairs at my own expense I will be dropped. I have changed my auto and saved $800. They take your $ and don't help you when you need it. This company has a culture of greed and wants to take from their customers. Their first thoughts and words are no and how can we keep your money.

I initiated my homeowners claim in March- it’s now September. Almost 6 months old and still nothing finalized on my basic roof claim. Communication is horrible- like 30 unanswered emails and voicemails- They have even switched my claims representative and she is equally unresponsive- so frustrated- I will never do business with them again and I recommend you don’t either.

Stay away from Nationwide, I had a water mixer valve fail in the wall soaked the whole house. Then Nationwide sent out their water mitigation people and they waited and waited until I had mold everywhere. I called in another contractor and they said $58,000 to repair the damage. And this contractor has the highest ratings. Nationwide wide said $17,000 that's it. NOw I can no longer rent the house and am being forced to sell it without a kitchen or bathroom. Because Nationwide's people removed everything

The initial experience with Nationwide was fine. It was the surprise bill that was horrible. I had a security system Nationwide gave a discount. That was fine. The bad part was they needed documentation with in 60 days and did not let me know in any way (They said they sent an email that I never received). When they did not receive it I received no notice. Cut to 9 months into my policy and I get a surprise bill for $300. I do not know what it is for. I called and found out the reason. I then see if I sent the documentation today could the bill either be eliminated or prorated. Nationwide stated that the prorated amount would be $0.08 for 3 months of service. Nationwide math states that 25% of $300 = $0.08. If I cannot trust Nationwide with simple Math how could I ever trust them with my insurance. I left and will never go back.

They came to my house in January. Took pictures for the renew. We have to clean up outside and we have to tear our barn down or fix it with little notice after my family was in a accident black mailing to drop us if we do not comply. Avoid this company. They are cold. Kelly ** in the Xenia Ohio office is rude. She shows no compassion. Do not get this company.

I recently filed a claim for what I believe is obvious wind damage on my shingled roof. This was also attested to by a roofing expert and I thought concurred with by the Nationwide third party inspector. Adjuster fully denied the claim stating it was only wear and tear. The shingles are obviously creased. They refuse to review and refuse to grant a reinspection. I am a 40 year customer who has never had a major claim. Pretty bad that they are unwilling to work with me at all. Very poor service.

My parents have carried Nationwide for a number of years and their home office moved from the city that they were in. My parents are in their 80s and have been living in their home for close to 50 years. Nationwide dropped my parents home insurance over $143.00. They sent emails to my 80-year-old mother who is on fixed income about an increase in the payment. She doesn't do technology at all and instead of having the decency to call and get the $143.00 discrepancy resolved they dropped them from their homeowners insurance. When they inform me of this, I call to rectify the situation because they made their payments every month without fail they refused to reinstate the policy and quoted them a significant higher amount. Another example of corporate greed and not taking care of our elderly.

I have been a customer for 21+ years. I have made a claim for a burst waterline and was told it would be covered. Now I am being told a different story and they are not going to cover it. "Sorry you're not covered because the leak was for over a week." Really it was under the house and could not be seen. It's like many on here have said. "Nationwide is not on your side." I am cancelling today and encourage everyone to stay away from this company. I would put no stars but it wouldn't let me. Raise their prices constantly to leave you high and dry when you need them.

We have paid Nationwide Homeowners insurance for 13 years now. Our water heater busted and caused damage to our hardwood floors. They lowballed us and will not pay sufficiently to cover repairs. You will be forced to take them to court to make them pay. Be aware and choose some other insurance to avoid such heartbreak OR self-insure.

1. How can I see so many 1 star reviews yet CA says it is 1% of reviews. Out of 344 reviews; that would be 3.4 reviews right? I see 9 on the first page. What gives with the chart CA?
2. I think Nationwide is excellent at collecting premiums. A+ there.
3. Paying claims, well, not so much. They don't return calls or emails for at least 10 days. And when they do, it is all about what is not covered. Ask them a question, don't expect an answer.
4. Happy to give details of a broken water pipe that flooded our house; let just say, they attempting to nickel and dime us on fixing things, arguing over the emergency services and did you know that they don't pay to fix broken pipes? That is excluded.
5. We are in Florida, so, not sure if it is better elsewhere. But if you need to make a claim, pray you don't get "Jason Boney FL Licenses P044656". He won't return messages or calls.
6. Another slimy trick; when they cut you a check to reimburse you; they make it out to you and your Mortgage Company. They do everything they can to push their float on cash. Not a lot of fun trying to get your mortgage company to help you cash a check so you can pay your contractors.
So frustrating to work with. I recommend you look elsewhere. Look for a company that has reviews where they focus great customer service when you have to file a claim.

I own a 6 unit commercial building in Cincinnati--bad hurricane came and ripped a portion of the roof open, which of course created extensive damage to the inside of the building. As typically we filed a claim to help with the 30k worth of costs associated with the damage. They only disbursed $3k and said damage was due to other circumstances related to the building. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Garbage policy and insurer--State Farm would have been a better option--so disappointed--I warn you stay away from Nationwide--they look for reasons not to pay out on claims--scam insurer... Scam insurer. Beware.

I had an incident in my after being away for 2 weeks. The pressure tank sprung a leak and sprayed water all over my fuse panel thus melting it. Which kicked the main breaker half way off thus cutting the heat. I notified them immediately, as you are supposed to. The first gentleman came and looked around then called a large claim because a bathroom pipe had frozen between the tank spraying water everywhere the bathroom sink was also. I had mold and warped ceilings cupboards floor boards etc. a real mess. When the the large claims guy came he kept trying to tell me I abandon my home. All my clothes, meds, Money, jewelry etc was there. He said she said issue was he told me I couldn’t do anything until the investigation was complete.
Finally he allowed me to get a new r Fuse panel on my dime, but not the plumber. Then he said the plumber could come, same deal tank replaced and pipe also on my dime. Still refusing to let me to have mitigation come in and clean the mold, finally happened on my dime. Then he tried to say that I didn’t have my heat on and that I said I turned it off before I left for 2 weeks. I turned the main breaker the whole was off when I found the problems because I didn’t want it to catch fire.
That was seven months ago, the house sitting empty. 2 lawyers and an under oath deposition they finally denied the claim because I was negligent caring for my property because my gutters had leaves (I live against a mountain), and a piece of siding blew off. I have been a 30 year customer with no claims discount. Paid extra for replacement costs. NATIONWIDE IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE!
