If I could give a negative score, I would. Cigna is the worst health insurance provider on the planet. Even if it’s your employee coverage, do anything you can to find it w BCBS or Aetna. Anyone but Cigna. They partner with a telehealth company called MD Live. The tagline even says “MD Live by Cigna” but neither 3rd party recognizes one another & they are 100% responsible along with a horrible doctor named Traci **, MD for my dilemma. Never use her, you will regret it.

So essentially when their doctor makes a mistake & says they authorized my life-dependent blood pressure prescription but Walgreens says they don’t have it, you are required to make another telehealth appt & wait 2 weeks. It doesn’t matter if you’re out of your meds & it was their mistake. They don’t care. They “can’t” call the doctor. It’s not possible. Ha ha ha ha! I think I’ve landed on another planet. Take me back to Earth! If I die of a stroke it is 100% their fault. I have fought with Cigna, DigitalOne & MD Live for 4 days - emails, phone calls, 100’s of useless chatbot calls. I’ve instructed my family to sue all of them including the doctor when I strokeout due to their total negligence. They do not care about the patient. It’s only the bottom line & all their apps & automated crap that’s a circle of redundancy.

I was taken to the ER via ambulance due to a cardiac event. I spent four days in the hospital. Two months later I received a letter from Cigna stating that they do not contract with the ambulance company I used. It seems Cigna is stating that while experiencing a cardiac event I should have stopped to check which ambulance company contracts with Cigna. This is ridiculous! Our town only contracts with one ambulance company. Called customer service which was a waste of time as they cannot do anything. This is just another example of why Cigna has one of the lowest ratings out of insurance companies.

Cigna constantly processes my primary care visits as a specialist. I get a different story every time I call them; admitting they made a mistake and will resubmit- but then it's filed as a specialist again. Cigna has poor internal communication and lazy customer service. I have to dispute their claims every time I visit my primary care physician. Ridiculous.

We switch to Cigna because of my husband’s new job. I was excited because he would be part of the Teamsters. I figured they had good insurance because of their strong union. I have never had so much difficulty with insurance in my life. I am 58. If I needed a certain medication or treatment I got them. I waited three 2 1/2 months for a medication to be approved which is a necessary medication for longevity. I have multiple serious health issues where glp-1 medications were recommended by many of my doctors. They don’t cover this medication for any reason.

I took one years ago under a different insurance and it was covered. Studies show that this medication significantly improves these serious conditions. I need it to take to prolong my life but I can’t continue to pay out of pocket for $500 a month. My husband has a chronic condition where medication is required. My old insurance paid for it. Cigna paid for a while but suddenly they didn’t cover it anymore. The new medication they approved costs $360 every two months. He cannot go without it. I thought the teamsters took care of their people.

They just sent me an email in an excited tone, declaring that my insurance card has gone fully digital. Now I have an 8.5 x 11 paper folded up in my wallet with my insurance information instead of the small nicely laminated card! :( Additionally, I went or get a second vaccine shot last year, which was no charge to me, except that I mentioned anxiety to my doctor (he was dismissive and this conversation lasted about 10 seconds). Because I mentioned anxiety, it was no longer a "free" office visit. I got a $299 doctor visit bill because of this. I haven't been back to the doctor since, which is probably what they want..

This is quite literally the worst health insurance I have ever dealt with. We pay over $800 a month just to have NOTHING covered. I pay $25 a month for my medicine when I can get it for $6 without my insurance! They don’t pay for anything mental health-related. I have had necessary blood draws, and the claims were rejected. They won’t pay for my son’s ADHD meds. Someone who has probably never been to medical school decided the medicine that his Dr prescribed wasn’t medically necessary.

Our employer enrolled us in this insurance because it’s employee-funded and cheap for them, but it’s way too expensive for how horrible it is. As soon as our enrollment contract is up, I will be canceling this and getting any other insurance besides this one. It is absolute trash. I wanted to leave zero stars, but unfortunately had to leave one. Do yourself a favor and don’t pay a penny for this insurance. Trash trash trash.

My wife and I received letters from United Healthcare in Nov ember 2025 stating they would not be covering our visits to Baptist Health. We went through the process of switching our healthcare insurance to Cigna effective Jan 1, 2026. On January 13 we received letters from Cigna stating we had been assigned a different primary care physician than the one we use. We made numerous phone calls to Cigna (now HealthSpring) and were told our physician was not "in network" and our visits there would not be covered.

Our physician's office insisted they were in fact in network and have a numerous patients using Cigna. I checked my account through the Cigna website and sure enough it lists our physician as part of their network. I again called HealthSpring customer service and spoke with a gentleman who was extremely difficult to understand. He insisted our visits to our physician would not be covered but he would make a special request to allow us to use an out of network physician but we should reschedule our upcoming appointments because it would take a month or so to get a response to his special request.

An absolute nightmare. Zero stars. Cigna has the only Medicare advantage plan in my area so I have been stuck. Customer service is terrible, 99% of the time you speak to out of the country 3rd party reps and the language barrier makes everything 10x harder. They require referrals for certain services but they won’t tell you which services so you have to call anytime you see someone other than your primary. Once you are approved to see a specialist it doesn’t mean the services they provide to you will be covered… that requires additional approval, but you don’t find out until you get a bill because everything was denied. It took over a year to get a reimbursement for the denied service.

I live in a coastal area and the dentist they told me I had to see was in another state and I could only get there by ferry. It was showing as less than 50 miles but they refused to understand that the distance was by boat, so I had to pay out of pocket for all my dental services because I chose to not take the ferry. I finally got private insurance and have been trying to terminate my policy for 3 months and they keep claiming they aren’t receiving the form I sent 3x and once by fax. The government should absolutely take action against this company. I would not recommend this insurance to my worst enemy.

I applied to Cigna for health insurance coverage during the recent enrollment period being dissatisfied with UHC Medicare Advantage. Cigna used Milliman IntelliScript to do a medical history background check on me and declined my application from the information they received. Milliman showed that I had been receiving physical therapy for Ankylosing Spondylitis which is a non-curable auto immune disease. I was taking physical therapy for spinal and cervical stenosis from old injuries, not Ankylosing Spondylitis. Why my physical therapist listed this condition, I don't know. No Physician has ever diagnosed me having this condition and I have never taken any treatment for it.

So, 1. Cigna has based their decision for denial on a physical therapist's used term not a diagnosing physician without doing any further checking or confirmation. 2. Milliman Inelliscript has been involved in several lawsuits for wrong or incorrect information and investigated by the FTC for selling false information. Cigna now wants a written signed and dated letter from the treating physician to consider appealing their decline decision. How do I do this when there is and was no treating physician.

A note to my insurance agent: Just an FYI for future reference. Yesterday I was unable to login to the Cigna website. I called the number listed for assistance. There is no specific menu selection for website issues, so I'm not sure where I ended up, but she told me to call...the same number. I asked for which prompts to use, but she said she would transfer me. I waited 45 minutes on hold before having to hang up for other reasons. I called back in the afternoon and waited another 45 minutes on hold, listening to the recording telling me how important my call is.

After describing my issue he told me to call this number....the same number....at least this time he told me which prompts to use, before transferring me to that dept. I waited on hold another 30 minutes before once again having to hang up for other reasons. I called back this morning and so far have been on hold for 50 minutes. I guess customer NO service is one of the reasons they're less expensive than other companies. I suppose it's impossible to switch until next November, but I wanted you to know how poor the Cigna customer No service is, so that you would take that into consideration in the future selection of companies to represent.
