I wish we could apply zero stars to this. Unbelievable hidden fees that I did not sign up for when applying for credit for an emergency vet hospital visit. They make it very confusing as to what you’re signing up for but I know that I did not sign up for extra fees for care credit card protection, this would be useless to me but somehow after 13 months of diligently paying off my loan for the vet bill (extremely high for what they didn’t do at this vet hospital) each month and making it almost impossible to access the billing statements and charges, I had to call three times a customer service agent to help me with these. What’s more, this bank does not credit your payment on the day or even the next day of payment, so this bank cleverly does this in order to incur incredibly high late fees. This practice is extremely deceptive and wrong, along with adding extra services that I did not sign up for.
I will never understand the level of greed these banks have and especially on vulnerable people that are having financial problems in the first place, which is why we sign up for these payment plans! Shame on this bank for doing this to folks when they’re obviously having a hard time making financial emergencies payments and just making ends meet. Taking money and cleverly deceptive practices of adding more fees for useless means, such as “credit card security fee” each and every month, adds up to thousands of extra dollars on a $1,300 payment plan for over 13 months, is robbing from the lower income consumers at desperate times in their lives. Shame on Synchrony Bank!

Horrible bank. I had used Care Credit to pay for dental work and vet bills. Was on automatic payment for 12 months. Suddenly I had not only my monthly payment, but also the balance of my entire dental procedure taken out of my account which caused a negative bank balance. Attempted to use the chat service but that was useless. Spent 30 minutes on hold waiting for a representative who merely apologized for the mistake after putting me on hold for another 20 minutes. Best she could offer was a refund check which wouldn't arrive for 7 days. The payment was still pending but she couldn't be bothered. I know from past experience the transaction could have been halted, but obviously this bank doesn't care enough about their customers. Once I have paid my debt off with them I will close my account. Horrible company.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. This bank uses predatory tactics—stay away! When I bought a mattress, the store told me I had 3 years to pay it off. You would think the "Minimum Payment" on your statement would be enough to pay it off in time, but it’s not. Synchrony sets the minimum payment much lower than what you actually need to pay to clear the balance. They don't remind you when the 3 years are up, and then "Voilà"—they hit you with 34.99% interest on the original full amount. I ended up with thousands of dollars in interest added to my balance overnight. They are feeding off people who think they are on a fair payment plan. Stay far away from them!

Very poor customer service!! Once a statement is received by a customer, the balance due is non-negotiable. No adjustment will be made to the balance, although customer service will take the interest off the account. Note: the account balance and THE balance are NOT the same thing. Any adjustment to the account balance is not reflected in the balance due. Word of warning: adjustments on your account are NOT reflected in your minimum payment due and can actually create higher minimum payments in the future.

I purchased furniture from a particular store. (Rooms to Go) This company usually deals with Synchrony Bank and I have had multiple problems with payments twice from Synchrony, once last year as they charged me a late fee because I paid to early. Instead of paying on your due date or before your due date, they will charge you a "late fee". Last year they did refund my late fee. Well this year the same thing happened. I paid 3 days early and they charged me a late fee of $30.00. I had forgotten they charged me a late fee for paying early. I don't quite understand how this is "legal". I've never ever had any problems or history of late fees. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor and oh.. she didn't help. I asked her if she felt it was fair charging me a late fee as I had made the payment prior to the 7th of February, (due date) I had made it on the 2nd or 3rd. She states "that's just how the company works".
Well I just want to warn people. Do not make your payments prior to your due date otherwise you will be charged a late fee. This cannot possibly be legal and it isn't fair. Where is the $30 going? Not helping me any. It goes to Synchrony Bank. In my opinion what an awesome scam they have going!! Lastly, the employee mentioned to me, they are only allowed to refund you once a year. So in otherwards if they screw up twice within a year-they are not going to assume the responsibility. She actually told me since I was refunded last year due to the same mistake therefore this was why I could not be refunded the late fee. Neither time was I late, it was because I paid to early so they count it as late when one pays to early. So when I mention the word scam? It's no joke!! What an easy way to collect money from people.

Synchrony Bank is slow to post mailed payments for credit card accounts. An account for a retail store chain and one for a television shopping network, QVC, typically take 10 to 14 days to post mailed payments using the Synchrony Bank mailing coupon and envelope. Amazingly, late fees and interest charges are posted to the account with lighting speed. Calls to Synchrony Bank Customer Service are answered by rude and unhelpful representatives. Synchrony Bank is likely using these tactics to force customers to use electronic payments which cost less to process. If you have credit card accounts with Synchrony Bank, mail your payments as soon as you receive your statements or you will receive charges if the payment is postmarked 7 days or less from the due date. Better yet, when you have alternative choices, choose a different bank card than those offered by Synchrony Bank.

Have had a credit card with Synchrony Bank for two years, started with a credit line of $1800, by making a purchase at Dicks Sporting Goods. Because I travel and I place expenses on my credit card and pay most if not all off within two months. About 7 months ago I had a balance of $920, from a prior month travel. For no reason at all my credit limit was dropped to $920. Needless to say I was not pleased and decided that this was a credit card that I could no longer depend on for use - for the record I ran about 6k through this card paying off over a month or two each time never hitting the limit and never late. Again no I could not depend on the card I used only for a monthly subscription of $9.75 a month.
Today I received an email that my account is closed. The email explained that I did not own real estate (because it is paid for), and a balance on another card was to high - just completed travel and used that card. Again never paid late, never over the limit, no warning just closed. Interesting is that I have another of Synchrony cards that is associated with another retail firm. That card is still active however, I will never use going forward and has a 0 balance. Given my experience with Synchrony credit card, I would not recommend their cards. I am blessed that I am not dependent on this card, my heart goes out to the people that are dependent on a credit card that reduces credit and closes an account at the drop of a hat with no reason.

I am writing this review to share my deeply disappointing experience with Synchrony Bank regarding a billing dispute for a $6,000 transaction with EVO Gadgets in Las Vegas, NV. The products I received did not match the items listed on my receipt. I was also led to sign paperwork that was presented to me as an acknowledgment of receiving a complimentary item—only to find out later that it was treated as a purchase. I immediately disputed the charge with Synchrony Bank and provided all the supporting information.
Despite this, I felt that Synchrony Bank showed little to no concern for my situation as a consumer. Instead of thoroughly investigating or giving reasonable consideration to the evidence I submitted, I felt they sided with the merchant—a merchant that currently holds an “F” rating with the BBB and has a pattern of complaints from other customers describing similar issues such as deceptive sales tactics, pressure, questionable paperwork, and resistance to refunds.
This experience has left me with the impression that Synchrony Bank prioritizes the businesses that benefit the bank rather than the customers who rely on them for protection. I trusted that a financial institution would safeguard me from questionable or misleading transactions like this, but that trust has been broken. I hope my review helps others make informed decisions before choosing to use Synchrony Bank. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

I am writing this in tears and out of total desperation. I’ve always been proud of my credit score and I pay my bills on time, every time. But I just fell into a "deferred interest" trap with Synchrony Bank that has completely devastated me. I bought a mattress at Mattress Firm in 2022 for about $1,800. The sales pitch was simple: "Interest-free for 24 months." I signed up, and for two years, I paid the bill they sent me every single month. I never missed a payment. I thought I was doing everything right.
Here is the trap: The "minimum payment" or "auto-pay" amount they suggest on the bill is NOT enough to pay off the item by the deadline. It is mathematically set up so that you will have a small balance left over when the 2 years are up. Because I had a small balance left in October 2024, they didn't just charge me interest on what I owed—they went back to 2022 and charged me interest on the entire $1,800. My balance is now back up to nearly $1,700. It’s like my two years of payments never happened.
I am not trying to get out of paying for my mattress. I am anxious and eager to pay the principal balance off right now. I can't afford this penalty. I called customer service, but they wouldn't help. To the Community: Please, check your statements. Do not trust the "amount due" number. To Synchrony: Please, I am begging for a goodwill adjustment. I tried to do the right thing. Please let me pay the principal and close this chapter.

Over the last year, I’ve encountered family health issues and provided care for them with most recently losing two family members in the last 60 days. With that being said, I did not pay attention to the fact that synchrony was charging me interest rates because the promotional program was only for 12 months. They charged me $3700 and interest.
I had the same issue with Best Buy and they credited me the interest in. I paid off the loan the same day.
