JK handled my move that involved shipping some belongings to a new house and storing others for later shipping to another home. Important items were shipped to the wrong location. It took days just to get a quote for shipping the stored items. When unable to reach to the party I had been dealing with, I’d be put in touch with someone else; each new person didn’t know what I’d discussed with the last one.

Original artwork that should have been sent to storage couldn’t be found. I was assured that warehouse personnel were searching my belongings for the paintings only to be informed later that no search had begun because there would be a charge to open the palettes. Yes, they wanted me to pay them to find items they had lost. I was told that two pieces of art were found in crates in storage when it turned out they had been wrapped in paper and shipped to the wrong location. When there were problems on the day of delivery, the person supposedly supervising the move couldn’t be reached for hours. If you want your move mismanaged with gross incompetence while being ignored and lied to, JK Moving is the company for you.

Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend JK Moving. I hired JK Moving for a very short, 2-mile express move from house to apartment. The sales rep came to my home, carefully reviewed everything, and provided what seemed like a professional and accurate quote based on a 6-hour job. I was very clear about all details, including that we were moving to a third-floor apartment with no elevator. I even followed their advice to consolidate all boxes to reduce cost.

However, the day of the move turned into a nightmare. The movers took 11 hours—double the estimated time—resulting in a final bill that was twice the quoted price. To make matters worse, the driver ignored my instructions to park in front of the building (which would have reduced the workload) and instead chose a more difficult route from the back, adding unnecessary time and effort. The furniture assembly was also very poorly done, with loose screws and improperly installed pieces. I had to pay an additional $450 out of pocket to have a handyman fix the damage.

Customer service after the move was equally frustrating. It took weeks to get responses. I had to escalate multiple times (even copying senior leadership), and despite being promised an itemized invoice, a credit, and a follow-up on the damages, I have still not received any resolution after more than a month. Overall, this experience was marked by inaccurate estimates, poor planning, questionable decision-making, hidden costs, and a lack of accountability. The service felt polished during the sales process, but once the contract was signed, everything changed. I would strongly caution others before using JK Moving.

    The movers were ok picking up my boxes and furniture; however, they were very careless unloading boxes and furniture items. It didn't seem like they paid attention to the "fragile" labeling either. The movers were in a hurry to get to another town. I had some things missing and broken. If you hire these movers, go for the price with no deductible.

    The packers showed up to my house and could not unlock their truck to get to their packing supplies. They wasted about a 1/2 hour or more milling around outside before I went out to check on them. They told me their key wouldn’t unlock the padlock to the truck. My neighbor happens to work security so I went next door see if he could help, but he wasn’t home. They continued waiting for help from JK moving company, which never arrived. A long while later, my neighbor showed up and was able to jimmy the padlock, but it took him quite a while. The company personnel never arrived.

    Now for the move itself. It was fall season, and they laid blankets on the grass after shaking out debris from a previous move. Small items and trash was scattered on my lawn and driveway. Dried crumbled tree leaves became stuck to the blankets and were carried all through my house. The movers left a huge mess for me to clean up.

    Upon delivery, to my new home over 500 miles away, I did not examine my furniture very closely, and I found a lot of hidden damage after the fact. A 55” TV was set up on a table and the legs were broken. I didn’t notice until I decided to move it to another room. Picked it up and the legs fell off. A large travertine stone coffee table now wobbles quite a bit and the leg screws appear to be stripped. Didn’t find out until I tried to move it. A leather club chair is scratched in several places. A leather ottoman was slit and not noticed until the slits began to pull from sitting on it. These are just examples of things that were not noticed at the time of delivery.

    My furniture damage claim was denied because they said I should have reported the damage to the driver upon delivery. I see others have had issues with claims from this company. My advice is to examine the furniture closely as it is being delivered and take pictures then. Don’t wait. Lesson learned, I’m having an estate sale next time I move and selling my furniture. No more large moves for me!

    The movers did not speak English so communication was VERY difficult! Packing was part of the estimate but no packers were sent on the move date. The packing was VERY unprofessional? Clearly no training in the art of packing! Crystal was packed with cast iron cookware! Wooden salad bowls were wrapped much better than glass. Some glass jars had no packing material. Some glass and utensils were thrown into boxes with no wrapping. I signed and asked about a credit card and was told that the same one would be used as the day before and then several days later received a threatening phone message about turning my account over to a collection agent! Clearly the movers did something wrong with my payment but I am being blamed. I did nothing but what they asked!

    JK Moving Services provided a household goods move for us from Washington, DC to Chicago. Parts of this service were excellent, but other parts of the service were deplorable. On the positive side, the movers were courteous and professional, and the move coordinator was outstanding. On the very negative side, however, two pieces of furniture were badly damaged in transit, and two lamp shades were lost entirely. We carefully prepared and submitted a claim for the incurred damage and lost items, which were subject to a $500 deductible. Very disappointingly, we received a response to our submitted claim, devaluing the damage sustained by our six month old solid walnut table and other claims, such that the total assessed damage and loss summed to less than the $500 deductible, so we were compensated ZERO for our losses. Therefore, I strongly recommend AGAINST using JK Moving Services.

    Between the things JK Moving broke and the things they lost, here's my advice: you'd be better off just throwing your things away rather than entrusting them to JK Moving. In my most recent move with them, irreplaceable framed photos were lost, and three pieces of furniture had significant damage. If you can't get the item into your car, seriously think about selling it or giving it away before moving it.

    I moved with JK Moving this year and had a great experience. The team went above and beyond for me at each location (I moved long distance). My driver, Linton, was AWESOME, accommodating, funny, personable, and thorough. I ended up taking more than I planned and it didn't cause any issues for my move, thankfully!
