We planned our Alaska vacation nearly a year in advance. We researched and selected VanGuard Tours & Cruises solely on the basis of the promised Tour Manager that accompanied all tours, was on call 24 hours per day. The information describing a qualified tour manageer is reiterated in the DVD sent to us by the company, letters from the travel agent, and all advertisements on the Internet.

Approx. 5 days prior to the cruise, the last sheet placed in the just received travel packet announced in one sentence that we would not have the Tour manager service. No phone call from the company, no phone numbers or contacts in the cities were provided. Our trip was fraught with problems. Holland America, our designated tour assistant, for the majority of the trip was not aware of our presence.

We were placed on a wrong bus, wrong tour, missed the entire city of Seward. We were given vouchers with no specific information as to the time of the attraction or the means to get to the attraction. Each day of the trip meant we had to anticipate all of the potential problems we could incur during the day as well as in the days ahead. The ship had to email VanGuard numerous times to check on our status.

We should not have had to pay for the Tour Manager services and not received the services. Based on the VanGuard advertisement of complete satisfaction or 100% refund, we have requested 5,000 for all of the time spent replanning the trip. We have written 3 letters to VanGuard, one very negative response was received.
