The 'fixed rate' has begun increasing over the past year from .226 to .286, to where it is now 25% more than my standard supplier. I understand that Trump may be shutting down the wind farms, but I don't believe we should be paying for it, especially unasked.

Back in very late 2022 or early 2023 my electric provider was encouraging folks to choose their own energy suppliers. I took a 2 year contract at an approximate .16/kwh which was reasonable at the time. A few weeks later I received mail from CleanChoice Energy prompting me to complete my sign-up or to confirm.. I don't remember exactly, but my electric company at the time was going through its own site and billing issues and I thought maybe they hadn't transitioned to my new energy supplier so I either went online as the mail instructed or I filled in the information and sent a hard copy to CleanChoice to make sure the transition would go through.

It is now mid-December 2025 (less than 2 years from when the change to my new energy supplier was completed) and I've gotten an insane $500 electric bill for the last month.... Come to find my current supply rate is .31/kwh??? Hidden in the lines here... The energy company I had chosen to start was CleanSky, not Cleanchoice Energy. The several mailed letters came from CleanChoice Energy. So familiar and close in name when it's not the first thing on your mind that when I got that mail I accidentally switched energy suppliers for a 2nd time in under 3 months believing I was still working with my original choice CleanSky.

I should pay better attention, however why would other suppliers be sending stuff after I'd selected one, and with the name being so close to what I'd actually chosen? No two year contract at a .16/kwh rate. In fact CleanChoice Energy went from about .17/kwh this past spring to .31/kwh in about 2 months now that I have looked back to see why my electric bill is suddenly so high. With no real notice. A nearly 100% increase? But if I were to sign up with them for a 2 year contract... the current rate offered is .169/kwh. Seems pretty sketchy you have to try to trick people with a name close to another company's to poach their business and also pretty criminal to steeply increase rates for existing clients without notice. All seems like bad business to me. Did I have electric? Yes. Does any of it feel honest and fair at this point? No. Make sure you get a contract or you stand to lose with this company's game playing.

Exactly like another Pittsburgh consumer said in her review: "I checked the cost per kilowatt hour against my old supplier and there is was!!!, even though I was told nothing would change. Don't pick your electric supplier in a Grocery store! I have no idea why I signed up for this after being approached in a local grocery store but I feel like a first-class idiot. It wasn't like I needed the $5 gift card..." I am paying $0.103 per kilowatt hour now and will have to pay $0.129 KWH starting next month. That's a 25% increase!! A highway robbery!!! I don't even want to calculate how much more I will have to pay for the year before I can cancel it.

CleanChoice Energy Often times sends deceptive marketing via mail misrepresenting themselves as a cheaper alternative to the main supplier. They often times also display in bold letters "$100 Refund on your electric bill", or "ATTENTION NEEDED". Often times this can be misleading or even trick more vulnerable consumers, especially the elderly. Their customer support is beyond useless and shady. It took many hoops to un-enroll. Essentially a scam for bold letter marketing. Remember to ALWAYS read the fine print.

My bill increased by approximately 50%. I checked the cost per kilowatt hour against my old supplier and there is was!!!, even though I was told nothing would change. Don't pick your electric supplier in a Grocery store! I have no idea why I signed up for this after being approached in a local grocery store but I feel like a first class idiot. It wasn't like I needed the $5 gift card and it's not that I wasn't fully aware of the destructiveness of those horrible windmills and unreliability of solar power. I sure paid dearly for that gift card! Back to good old, reliable coal fired energy as fast as I could. You want me to supply a receipt so I can be labeled as a Verified Buyer? How about a before AND after receipt? I am not happy, so even though this doesn't really apply here, I just REALLY feel like saying it, so I will! DRILL BABY, DRILL!!

CleanChoice has been very good. They keep me informed as to what I'm using and sent me my renewal, which was very reasonable. The enrollment was very simple. I just followed the directions that were in their site. In fact, I’ve recommended it to a few friends who also did it and also found it to be very easy to do. I'm very pleased with CleanChoice.

I have solar on my house and I don't have very many choices that have net metering. Clean Choice was one of the only net-metered options. Their enrollment process was easy. I went through the PA Choice website and went from there. Pennsylvania has a website for choosing a different electric supplier and you can go through that. It's simple. However, I had to negotiate lower rates at renewal. It doesn't automatically renew at the best available rate.

We joined CleanChoice a few years ago but we moved away and then came back. It was straightforward to rejoin. I did it on the website. The first time, we had someone come to the door and that went fine too.

CleanChoice had a good price for a one-year term with no early termination fees, no cancellation fees and no sign-up fees. And it was a fixed price for a year. When the year was up, I missed a month and our bill was much higher so I called and told them I was going to switch to a different supplier. But said they would give me a lower price to continue. So, I did and I've had them for probably a year and a half now.

We've been on renewable wind or solar electricity for over 10 years. I'm an ecologist and my wife is a biologist. She's also a high school biology teacher. So, we've been advocating for people to switch to renewable electricity in our local area. She had her high school students make an instructional video, about how to switch. A lot more people should be doing this. It's frustrating that so many people are afraid to do it. People are afraid that they don't know how to do it and it's a computer thing on the web. They think it's complicated. The other fear they have is that there are rumors that you'll sign up and then you'll get a good price, and then all of a sudden, the price jumps up high, which can be true. So, you just have to pay attention to when your fixed rate ends and either renew it or switch to a different supplier if you can't get a good price.

I don't remember getting an email or a message saying that my one-year fixed-price contract was going to be up. So, I wasn't prepared and I didn't arrange for another contract for a year. Then I paid a month of very high rate so it would be nice if CleanChoice would warn people when their term is about to expire. Some people are worried about the price and I tell people I've saved money over the years. But sometimes, like right now, I’m paying about 0.2 cents per kilowatt-hour more than the default rate, which is trivial. It's 2/10 of a cent per kilowatt-hour so I tell people if it costs them an extra 50 or even $100 a year, that is probably the most effective conservation money they can spend. The $50 is going to renewable energy and sending a signal to the marketplace. So, that's good.
