The head light switch may lead to an electric short.

June 12, 2006
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling four types of the Audi A6 from the 1998 to the 2000 model years because a previous recall to fix the head light switch may have been improperly performed.

NHTSA is concerned that the improper installation could lead to an electrical short and fire under the dashboard on the driver's side of the car.

On some Audi A6, A6 Avant, S6 and S6 Avant cars, while attempting the remedial repair for recall 0413000 a plastic cover may not have been securely installed by the Audi technician.

If the cover is not properly installed to the driver's side support crossmember, the headlight switch wiring harness could contact the crossmember and cause an electrical short.

Audi has not provided a remedy or an owner notification schedule but owners may contact the manufacturer at 1-800-822-2834 or call NHTSA 1-888-327-4236.
