Nissan recalls model year 2021-2022 Rogues because of seat belt defect

The rear seat belts may not retract properly

It doesn't do much good to have seat belts in your car if they don't work.

With that in mind, Nissan North America is recalling 8,391 model year 2021-2022 Rogues.

The rear seat belts for the left-hand and right-hand rear seats may not retract properly.

This could make them difficult to operate, which might make them impossible to use, and increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Figures released by the Transportation Department show that 51 percent of the 23,824 people killed in car crashes in 2020 were not wearing seat belts.

According to the government, seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives in 2017 alone, and could have saved an additional 2,549 people had they been wearing seat belts.

What to do

Dealers will inspect and replace the rear seat belts -- as necessary -- free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 27, 2023.

Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at (800) 867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC915.
