Kia recalls older Sorentos, Fortes, Forte Koups, Optima Hybrids, Souls, and Sportages

Kia Motors America is recalling 294,756 model year 2012-2013 Sorentos, model year 2012-2015 Fortes and Forte Koups, model year 2011-2013 Optima Hybrids, model year 2014-2015 Souls, and model year 2012 Sportages.

An engine compartment fire can occur while the vehicles are being driven, posing a risk of injury

What to do

Kia will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine compartment for fuel and/or engine oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs, including engine replacement -- as necessary -- free of charge.

In addition, Kia is developing a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update, which -- when available -- will be performed by dealers free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin January 27, 2021.
