The master cylinders were sold as aftermarket replacement parts for model year 2012-2017 Volkswagen Beetles, model year 2005-2018 Volkswagen Jettas and model year 2007-2010 Volkswagen Jetta GLIs.
Due to insufficient crimping of the aluminum housing, the master cylinder piston may not be secured properly, causing a loss of braking ability and allowing brake fluid to leak into the vacuum booster.
If the piston pops out of the master cylinder housing, a change in brake pedal travel and feel may result, including increased pedal effort and reduced brake function, increasing the risk of a crash.
