    GM recalls 111,000 model year 2017-2023 Chevrolet Bolt EVs

    Seat belt pretensioner deployment exhaust may cause a fire

    General Motors is recalling 111,242 model year 2017-2023 Chevrolet Bolt EVs.

    After a crash with seat belt pretensioner deployment, the pretensioner exhaust may ignite carpet fibers near the B-pillar, causing a fire.

    A vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury.

    What to do

    Dealers will install metal foil at the carpet near the pretensioner exhaust, and install a pretensioner cover -- as necessary -- free of charge.

    Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 30, 2023.

    Samsung recalls 600,000 top-load washing machines

    The appliances can short-circuit and overheat, posing a fire hazard.

    Samsung Electronics America of Ridgefield Park, N.J., is recalling about 663,500 Samsung top-load washing machines.

    The washing machines can short-circuit and overheat, posing a fire hazard.

    The firm has received 51 reports of smoking, melting, overheating or fire involving the washers -- ten of which resulted in property damage. Three consumers have reported injuries due to smoke inhalation.

    This recall involves several models of Samsung’s top-load washers with super speed wash.

    The washers were sold in white, black, champagne, and ivory, and include model series WA49B, WA50B, WA51A, WA52A, WA54A, and WA55A. 

    The model and serial numbers are found on the washer’s label attached to the inside of the top lid. An additional label is located on the rear of the washer.

    The washers, manufactured in the U.S., were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide and online at Samsung.com from June 2021, through December 2022, for between $900 and $1,500.

    What to do

    Consumers should immediately check whether their washer’s software has been updated to prevent the hazard.

    If has not, consumers should immediately stop using the washer until the software is updated.

    All Wi-Fi equipped washers that are plugged into a power source and actively connected to the internet will automatically download the free software repair over-the-air when they are connected to the internet.

    Consumers who have not connected their Wi-Fi equipped washer to the internet should contact Samsung for instructions on how to download the software repair.

    Consumers whose washer does not have Wi-Fi capability or who otherwise wish to receive a free software repair without connecting to the internet, should immediately stop using the washer and contact Samsung directly for a free dongle to plug in and download the free software repair.

    Nova Medical Products recalls adult bed rails

    Users can become trapped within the bed rail

    Nova Medical Products is recalling about 20,000 home bed rails.

    When the bedrail is attached, users can become trapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress. This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation.

    No incidents or injuries are reported.

    This recall involves Nova Medical Products Home Bed Rail (Model No. 6093) and Home Bed Rail with Legs (Model No. 6094).

    The bed rails are made of white metal tubing with a black foam rubber grip handle and removable fabric cover.

    The model number is printed on a label located on the grip handle and begins with BL6093 or BL6094.

    The bed rails, manufactured in China, were sold at AdaptHealth, San Diego Medical Supply, Bellevue Healthcare, CareLinc Medical Equipment & Supply and medical supply stores nationwide from January 2019, through November 2022, for between $55 and $80.

    What to do

    Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and contact Nova Medical Products for a free repair or replacement, depending on the model.

    Nova Medical expects the remedy to be available beginning in March 2023.

      The engine may shut down, posing a crash risk

      Chrysler is recalling 62,909 model year 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles with 2.0L Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle engines.

      A loss of communication may cause an engine shutdown, which can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

      What to do

      Dealers will update the transmission control module software free of charge.

      Notification letters to owners are expected to be mailed January 12, 2023.

      Target recalls 204,000 children’s Pillowfort Weighted Blankets

      Two children reportedly died of asphyxiation when they became trapped

      Target Corporation of Minneapolis, Minn., is recalling about 204,000 Pillowfort Weighted Blankets.

      A young child can become trapped by unzipping and entering the blanket, posing a risk of death by asphyxiation.

      The firm has received four reports of children becoming entrapped in these weighted blankets, including two fatalities.

      A 4-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl reportedly became trapped in the cover of the weighted blanket and died due to asphyxia at Camp Lejeune, N.C., in April 2022.

      This recall involves Pillowfort Weighted Blankets that weigh six pounds, measure 60 inches long and 40 inches wide and have a removable, waterproof, washable cover.

      The blankets come in eight prints or colors including unicorn white, space navy, pink, blue, gray, buffalo plaid red, blue constellation, and unicorn pink.

      Item numbers 097-02-0140 (Unicorn - White), 097-02-0148 (Space Navy), 097-02-0361(Pink), 097-02-0363 (Blue), 097-02-0364 (Gray), 097-02-1603 (Buffalo Plaid – Red), 097-02-3904 (Blue Constellation) and 097-02-3905 (Unicorn – Pink) are printed on the fabric tag attached to the removable covers of the blankets.

      The blankets, manufactured in China, were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online at www.target.com from December 2018, through September 2022, for $40.

      What to do

      Consumers should stop using the recalled weighted blankets immediately and contact Target for a refund.

      The packaging is not child resistant as required by federal law

      Liu Xianli of Staten Island, N.Y., is recalling about 9,000 tubes of Samnyte Tattoo Numbing Creams.

      The packaging is not child resistant as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

      The cream contains lidocaine, posing a risk of poisoning to young children who ingest it.

      No incidents or injuries are reported.

      The recall involves Samnyte Tattoo Numbing Cream containing lidocaine 5% with Vitamin E.

      The product was sold in a 60-ml white tube with a flip-top closure. The drug facts label is on the back.

      The numbing cream, manufactured in China, was sold exclusively online at www.amazon.com from April through October 2022 for about $23.

      What to do

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cream and store it in a location out of reach of children.

      Ford recalls Super Duty F-250s, F-350s and F-450 4x4s

      The driveshaft may become imbalanced

      Ford Motor Company is recalling 18,808 model year 2017-2018 Super Duty F-250s, F-350s and F-450 4x4s.

      A radial damper inside the driveshaft may move out of position over time, which can cause a driveshaft imbalance and result in a fracture and cause a loss of drive power.

      Additionally, a vehicle could roll away while parked if the parking brake is not engaged.

      Either of these can increase the risk of a crash.

      What to do

      Dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge.

      Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 9, 2023.

      The candles can burn at higher than usual temperatures

      Good Matters is recalling about 30,100 three-wick candles.

      The candles can burn at higher than usual temperatures causing the jars to break, posing fire and laceration hazards.

      Four reports have been received of the candles catching fire, cracking or breaking apart while in use, resulting in minor property damage and one consumer being burned.

      This recall involves Good Matters three-wick candles which come in a glass tumbler with a wooden lid with “Good Matters” embossed on the top. Only the 21 oz. tumblers are included in this recall.

      The candles were sold in black, blue, white, yellow, pink and blue, and in the following scents: Leather+Oud, Citrus+Basil, Cypress+ Fig, Homecoming, Snowfall, Wild Pine, Hope, Love, Peace.

      Good Matters and one of the following phrases are printed on the front of the jar: Hope, No. 1, Love, No. 2, Peace, No. 3, Cypress+Fig, Leather+Oud, Citrus+Basil, Winter Wonderland.

      The product contains shrimp, an allergen, not declared on the label.

      There no confirmed reports of adverse reactions.

      The following item, produced November 17, 2022, is being recalled

      • 18.5- oz packages of “INNOVASIAN Crispy Chicken with Almonds ENTREE” with lot code 22321-1, UPC code 695119120499, and a best by date 05/24/2023.

      The recalled product, bearing the USDA mark of inspection, but no establishment number on the packaging, was shipped to retail locations nationwide.

      What to do

      Customers with an allergy or sensitivity to shellfish who purchased the recalled product should not consume it, but discard or return it to the place of purchase.

      General Motors is recalling 10,194 model year 2019-2020 Cadillac XT4s equipped with the optional Surround Vision feature.

      The video processing module (VPM) may lose communication with the rearview camera, causing a loss of the rearview camera image.

      If the rearview camera fails to display an image, the driver's rear visibility may be diminished, increasing the risk of a crash.

      What to do

      Dealers will update the VPM software or replace the VPM -- as necessary -- free of charge.

      The tests may give false negative results

      Just as Covid 19 appears to be making a cold weather comeback, Detect, Inc. is recalling three lots of its Detect Covid-19 Test.

      There is an increased chance that the tests may give false negative results.

      At this point, the firm has not received any reports of false negative results.

      The recall involves 11,102 over-the-counter tests used to identify SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) in self-collected nasal swabs that were shipped to customers from July 26 through August 26, 2022.

      The affected lot numbers which can be found on the side of each test box along with the Use By date, are:

      • HB264 1/1/2023 7,382
      • HY263 1/1/2023 1,800
      • HY264 1/1/2023 1,920

      What to do

      Customers who purchased the recalled tests should dispose of them. The outer packaging is recyclable while all the test components can be discarded as regular trash.

      Detect will issue a refund for the recalled tests upon customers’ acknowledgement of receipt of the recall-related communication and confirmation that any affected tests in possession have been discarded.

      The battery packs can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

      Dooya Mechanic & Electronic Tech Co., of Ningbo, China, is recalling 57,450 cordless window shades battery packs sold in the U.S. and Canada.

      The battery packs can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

      The firm has received five reports of the batteries overheating in consumer homes, one report of a battery overheating in a commercial factory, and one report of a fire in a commercial warehouse. No injuries have been reported.

      This recall involves external lithium-ion battery packs used to power cordless window blinds.

      The recalled battery packs are white, approximately10.5 inches long by approximately one inch in diameter and weigh about 10 ounces.

      The recalled battery packs have numerical codes on the white label on the side of the product.

      Check your product label as other brands may be affected.

      The Positive Temperature Coefficient heater may malfunction

      Subaru of America is recalling 271,694 model year 2019-2022 Ascents.

      The ground bolt that secures the ground terminal of the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater may have been improperly fastened. This could result in melting of the ground terminal and surrounding components.

      A melting ground terminal increases the risk of a fire.

      What to do

      Owners should park their vehicle away from structures and avoid leaving it unattended while the engine is running.

      If an owner notices or smells smoke coming from the dash or driver's footwell, operation of the vehicle should be stopped and the the ignition switched to the "Off" position.

      Dealers will replace the PTC heater ground bolts and -- if necessary -- replace the ground wire and the connector holder free of charge.

      Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 6, 2023.
