Recalls in October 2021

Forest River, Inc. is recalling 101 model year 2022 Coachmen Catalina travel trailers because a panel that separates the furnace from the cooktop was not properly sealed. An improperly sealed panel in that position could cause a cooktop flame to become inverted, increasing the risk of a fire. 

The company is working with dealers so that the furnace can be sealed from the cooktop in affected vehicles. Owners of the travel trailers can have the fix applied at no charge.

Forest River Inc. Is recalling 125 model year 2021-2022 XLR Toy Hauler recreational vehicles due to a missing component. 

The company says a protective panel that separates the vehicle’s furnace and furnace components from the mid-deck cargo area is missing. This could cause cargo to come into contact with the furnace wiring and other components, causing an electrical short and increasing the risk of a fire. 

Forest River is working with dealers so that a felt-covered wall panel can be installed on the recalled vehicles at no charge to owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed on December 1, 2021.

Doosan Portable Power is recalling 734 of its 2019-2021 Doosan Portable Power Air Compressors and Mobile Generators because the lug nuts on the trailers may be improperly tightened. 

Improperly tightened lug nuts could cause a loss of trailer stability. In some cases, it could even cause the tires to fall off during transport, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners are being advised not to tow the trailer until the lug nuts can be tightened by a dealer, and that fix will be applied at no cost.

5.11 Inc. is recalling 45,170 of its 56100 Tactec Plate Carriers because they may not be able to be removed quickly. The product is used by consumers, law enforcement, and first responders in combination with ballistic vests or as plate carriers for weight training with non-ballistic plates. 

5.11 issued a recall because a cable in the quick release system in the plate carrier can separate from the handle. This could prevent the plate carrier from being swiftly removed in an emergency, increasing the chance of an injury.

The company has received two reports of the quick release system cable separating from the handle, but no injuries have been reported thus far.

What to do

Consumers who own the product are advised to stop using it immediately and to contact 5.11 for a free replacement for the cable system.

Design Within Reach is recalling approximately 200 of its Arc Collection Furniture products that do not meet the standard of the federal lead paint ban.

The surface paint used on the furniture reportedly contains lead levels that exceed federal limits, and exposure to it could lead to lead poisoning. The recall notice notes that lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can lead to adverse health effects. However, no incidents or injuries have been reported thus far.

Meridian Furniture is recalling 7,800 of its ottoman products because they have the potential to cause laceration injuries. 

The ottomans come equipped with a metal band at the base that may contain sharp edges, which has resulted in six reports of laceration injuries from consumers so far. The ottomans were sold online at Wayfair, Amazon, Hayneedle, and 200 other stores nationwide from June 2018, through October 2021.

Consumers who own one of the ottomans are advised to stop using them and contact Meridian Furniture. The company will send a prepaid mailing package and shipping label so that the product can be returned. Consumers can also provide photographic evidence of the disposal or destruction of the product to receive a full refund.

Magnussen Home has issued a recall for 13,200 of its Nova Series 5-Drawer Chests because they are unstable unless anchored to a wall. An unstable chest presents a tip-over and entrapment hazard that could be fatal to young children. 

The chests were manufactured from August 2009, through August 2015 and are made of wood with a walnut veneer. Magnussen has received one report of a chest tipping over so far, resulting in minor bruises to one child. 

Consumers who own one of the recalled chests are being urged to stop using it immediately and contact the company for a refund. Magnussen stated that the refund will be pro-rated based on the age of the product.

Purina Animal Nutrition is recalling one lot of its cattle and wildlife feed because the products may contain elevated levels of urea. 

Elevated urea levels can cause serious health issues, or even death, in animals like cattle, deer, antelope, and sheep. Symptoms include uneasiness, tremors, excess salivation, rapid breathing, incoordination, bloat, vomiting, twitching of ears and facial muscles, grinding of the teeth, abdominal pain, frequent urination, weakness, staggering, violent struggling and bellowing, and terminal spasms.

Purina stated that it has received no reports of illness or death so far. The full list of products -- all of which were distributed in Texas only -- can be found on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website here.

What to do 

Customers who purchased the feed can find the product’s lot number on the sewing strip of each bag. If it is from the recalled lot, they are advised to return it to the place of purchase.

Bobo’s has issued a recall for its almond butter bars because they may contain peanuts that are not declared on the product label. Consumers who are allergic to peanuts who unknowingly eat the bars could experience an allergic reaction.

The product was packaged in 4-packs that were distributed to Target stores across the U.S. A full list of the UPC numbers and lot codes can be found on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s site here.

Customers who bought bars in one of the recalled lots are advised to return them to the place of purchase for an exchange or full refund if there is an allergy concern.

Kawasaki Motors Corp. is recalling 574 motorcycles that may have insecure exhaust pipes and collars. 

The automaker says certain 2020 W800 Cafe (EJ800C) and 2020-2021 W800 (EJ800D) motorcycles may have come equipped with exhaust pipe nuts that were not properly tightened. This could cause the exhaust pipe nuts and collar to fall off the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash and creating a road hazard.

Dealers are being told to replace the gaskets and collars in affected motorcycles and reinstall the muffler, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 3, 2021.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles is recalling 2,056 recreational vehicles that could catch on fire. The recall covers the 2015 Free Spirit, 2015-2018 Unity, 2015-2016 Libero, 2015-2018 Serenity, and Wonder recreational vehicles.

Triple E stated that the vehicles came equipped with a refrigerator exhaust system that could vent directly onto their own wooden frame. This could cause the wood to overheat and ignite.

Dealers are being advised to install metal heat deflectors and screws on affected vehicles at no cost to owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 27, 2021.

Wellness and beauty product company artnaturals has announced that it is recalling 10 manufacturing lots of its 8 oz. Scent Free Hand Sanitizer products because they contain potentially dangerous impurities. 

Tests conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially identified the impurities. A recall was issued after the agency contacted artnaturals about the issue.

The company said long-term exposure -- through inhalation, oral consumption, or skin absorption -- could result in various cancers and blood disorders. To date, artnaturals says it has not received any reports of adverse events linked to the products.

Consumers who own any of the recalled hand sanitizers are being advised to stop using them and throw them away. A refund can be requested by calling artnaturals’ Customer Experience at 1-855-278-4488. The company is available to take calls Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT).

myCharge is recalling 67,000 of its powerbanks because the lithium-ion battery in the products can overheat and ignite. This issue creates a burn hazard and could cause a fire in some cases.

The company has received at least 30 reports of the powerbanks overheating so far, resulting in seven injuries in which consumers experienced burns. The issue also caused property damage in some homes to the flooring, walls, and furniture. 

In total, the company is recalling seven different powerbank models that were sold at various brick-and-mortar and online retailers from August 2018, through December 2019. The full list can be viewed on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website here.

What to do

Consumers who own one of the recalled powerbanks are being advised to stop using it immediately. myCharge stated that it will send instructions to owners on how to return the battery. Those who do will receive an electronic voucher for the full purchase price of the product, plus a 25% bonus for redemption on the company’s website.

Liberty Hardware has issued a recall for approximately 38,000 of its Mercury Glass Cabinet Knobs and Flower Glass Cabinet Knobs. The company said the glass stem of the products could shatter, posing an increased risk of laceration. 

Liberty has received 29 reports of the knobs breaking during use, leading to three instances of laceration injuries. The products were sold at Home Depot stores across the U.S. and by various online retailers from July 2016, through September 2021. 

Consumers are being warned to stop using the products immediately and to contact the company for a full refund.

Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods has issued a voluntary recall for its Organic Mediterranean Hommus product because they may contain pine nuts that are not listed on the back label. Consumers who have a severe tree nut allergy who unknowingly eat the product could experience a severe or fatal allergic reaction.

The product was packaged in 10 oz. bags and distributed in 23 states, which can be viewed in full on the FDA’s website. 

The recalled products bear a UPC Code of 044115403028 on the container with a sell-by date of Dec. 12, 2021. The company says no illnesses related to the recall have been confirmed thus far.

Lightform has recalled around 1,600 of its LF2 and LF2+ Projectors because the fans can malfunction, causing the unit to overheat. If left unchecked, this could cause the projectors to get so hot that they catch on fire. 

The projectors were sold online at Lightform’s website and on Amazon from March 2020, through August 2021. The company has received 16 reports of the projectors overheating so far, but no injuries or property damage has been reported.

What to do

Consumers who own one of the recalled projectors are being urged to stop using them immediately and contact the company so that a free software update can be applied. Lightform said that it is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Walmart has issued a recall for around 3,900 bottles of an aromatherapy product because it may contain bacteria that is potentially lethal to consumers who are exposed to it.

The product -- called the Better Homes and Gardens Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones -- was recalled after tests conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that one bottle contained a rare and dangerous bacteria called Burkholderia pseudomallei. This bacteria can cause a sometimes fatal condition called melioidosis, which is characterized by cough, chest pain, high fever, headache, muscle soreness, and weight loss. 

The CDC is currently investigating a cluster of four confirmed cases of the condition in the U.S. that has already resulted in two deaths. Officials said a bottle of the aromatherapy room spray that contained the bacteria was found in the house of one of the deceased consumers, but the agency has not yet confirmed that it was the cause of death. 

The product was sold at 55 Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from February 2021, through October 2021, for about $4. A full list of affected products can be found at the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s site here.

What to do

The CDC is urging consumers who bought the recalled product to stop using it immediately and keep it closed to contain any harmful bacteria. The product should not be thrown away. Instead, the agency says to double bag the bottle in a clean, clear zip-top resealable bag, place it in a small cardboard box, and return it to a Walmart store. The company said it will give consumers a $20 gift card after they have returned the product.

Consumers who owned the product are advised to wash any sheets and linens that the product may have been sprayed on with normal laundry detergent and to completely dry it in a hot dryer. Bleach may be used if consumers want to take that extra step. 

Consumers should also wipe down any counters or surfaces that might have been exposed to the spray with an undiluted disinfectant cleaner while wearing gloves. Be sure to thoroughly wash your hands after handling any contaminated objects or cleaning any exposed surfaces after removing the gloves.

Volvo says it will recall another 195,000 vehicles that may have a deadly defect lurking in their airbag deployment system. The move comes after the company recalled over 460,000 vehicles that may be affected by the same issue. 

The latest recall affects V70 and XC70 models that were produced between 2001 and 2007. In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the automaker said the airbag inflators in the recalled vehicles could explode and spray “sharp metal fragments” that could injure or kill drivers or occupants.

Dealers are being advised to replace the dangerous airbags at no cost to vehicle owners. Owner notification letters will reportedly be mailed on December 14. Consumers can contact Volvo Car at 1-800-458-1552 for more information.

Onions linked to massive salmonella outbreak recalled

Earlier this week, we reported that federal health officials had finally identified the source of a massive salmonella outbreak that had sickened hundreds of consumers across 37 states. Now, the onions that were responsible for those illnesses are being recalled.

Prosource Produce LLC has officially filed a recall notice with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for all of its whole, raw onions that were produced in Chihuahua, Mexico, between July 1, 2021, and August 31, 2021. The company admitted that the products may be contaminated with salmonella. 

Consumers who purchased the recalled onions are being asked to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Ford recalls over 228,000 vehicles with rear camera issue

Ford has issued a recall for 228,297 vehicles that came installed with faulty rearview cameras. The recall affects model year 2020-2021 Ford Explorers, Lincoln Corsairs, and Lincoln Aviators with 360-degree cameras.

According to a filing, the rearview cameras in the recalled vehicles could fail and prevent consumers from being able to use them while driving. The problem effectively reduces the vision of drivers and increases the risk of a crash.

Ford is working with dealers so that the Image Processing Module (IPMB) software in affected vehicles can be updated. Owners can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332 for more information.

Pork used for school lunches recalled

Over 3,000 pounds of ready-to-eat smoked pork barbeque products are being recalled because they may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. 

The pork, which is produced by Nick’s Famous Bar-B-Q of Nashville, Tenn., was shipped to several institutions in the U.S. -- including to certain school locations in North Carolina. 

Any institution that bought these products and has them in their freezers is being advised to throw them away immediately.

Infiniti is recalling 12,943 model year 2021 Q50s and Q60s.

After detecting rapid acceleration, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may incorrectly reduce engine power and reduce fuel supply to the engine.

A lack of fuel may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

What to do

Infiniti will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECM software free of charge.
