On 4/15, I signed up for a supposedly "one-time, refundable" fee of $5, realized my mistake, and cancelled my membership. Now I get emails several times a day saying I have not replied to the "expert." After reading other reviews, I realize that I am not alone with this issue. I fear that, like others, I will be charged a monthly fee for a "service" that I do not want. I have blocked this vendor on my credit card account, but worry that this scam company will find a way around that.

4/10/19 had a question so I applied for the $5.00 for 7 days. Was told I’d have an answer in 8 min. Here comes 2 hours later still no answer so I put in writing to cancel out my membership on the same day but 2 hours later. Finally about 5 hours later in my email there was an answer. This so called retired judge put words in my mouth that I never said. I only asked if a doctor can legally stop your narcotics cold turkey. My answer was, "You can sue the doctor". Never answered my question. I then answered the email they sent me. Told them I had cancelled out my membership because their so called retired judge is sick and never answered my question.
So this company in returned sent me an email stating that my account was closed and if not be charged the $5.00 and all future payments cancelled. Lo and behold today at 7:30am there is a $46.00 charge still pending. They had their 800 number listed so I called it. Was told there must be a quichein the system to tell her when I cancelled and how. I again explained and said by email to their office same place where I got the email stating everything had been cancelled. I found a $46.00 charge so I told her after arguing that I would contact a lawyer to get my refund. Tune changed. She did a total turn around. Said I’ll remove the charge since it’s still pending and send an email stating account is cancelled. I told her I’d NEVER recommend this site to anyone. I hung up. She did send the email stating the account closed and a refund given. Checked my bank and it was removed. So this site I’d never recommend to my dog if he had questions.
Lied how long it actually takes to get an answer. Takes your money even if you cancel. They don’t even answer your question. When you cancel they say there is a glitch. My suggestion stay away from this site. At least I did get my refund but I feel the only reason it was refunded ASAP was because I was going to contact my lawyer.

I posted a question and they didn't have any "experts" who could provide answers. I thought I was just in the trial but realized later that they've been charging me $46/mo for nothing. I finally found out and cancelled the account. They refused to give any kind of refund. This whole business model where you have to give a cc # and then cancel a week later to try the product is taking advantage of all of us who forget to cancel. I'm very disappointed in the company.

I'm French Canadian so my English is not very well. I ask a question to this company and st wait about 5 days before they respond. 5$ for a question but later they took 55$ on my credit card and now they take 71$ each month. I wrote them third times asking unsubscribe me but they did not. I never subscribe for that but they do it. Never ask a question at Just Answer. They will take your money and could not refund it. The JustAnswer expert I chatted with solved my problem with my dryer and I was happy to save the money for an appliance repair. However, I was not aware of the ongoing $28 charge put on my credit card every month. I called about the fee when I just noticed it after 5 months of charges and they will not refund my payments even though I have never accessed this service. How many other people are getting fooled by this scam? I asked to be transferred to a manager and I am on eternal hold.
The person I spoke with just kept repeating that I did not cancel my membership. I looked for a way to do that and couldn't find one so I assumed I was just being charged the $5 for the initial answer. This is no way to do business. I am happy to pay for a service I am going to use but not be scammed by this deceptive practice.

Our poor experience with JustAnswer.com mimics many of the negative experiences reported by many other users. Our question was submitted on 04/04, no answer has been received as of 04/11. For no service JustAnswer.com tried to charge $46 but fortunately our credit card company recognized a potential fraudulent activity and halted payment. The canned answers provided by JustAnswer.com to the consumers herein cannot disguise the fact that services were/are lacking and billing practices mis-representative at best. It's disappointing that such a promising business model be implemented in a fashion that clearly is unresponsive/does not help but rather takes advantage of people looking to better their own specific situations.

Hi there Robert,
We're sorry to hear about your experience. I can assure you that the replies are not canned, I'm literally writing this right now.
I'm sorry to hear that it sounds like you didn't get a response, especially over the course of an entire week. 80%+ of our customers actually receive a reply within 5 minutes with a remaining 15% receiving their reply within 30 minutes, so a week without a reply is definitely something we'd like to look at.

Updated on 04/13/2019: After they responded to my first review I got curious and did a search in my email to see if there was a response to me canceling my membership - and by the way, they publicly responded to my review and acted as if they were gonna do something, but never responded to my private message giving my account info. But anyway, lo and behold there was an email that was In my spam folder back when I canceled my membership and asked to give me my money back that I did not know about them taking - I will post the response at the bottom and you can clearly see how this company works. They do not care and flat out tell you that you won’t be getting a refund for a service you never used! It’s shocking when your past experiences are with more reputable, honest companies - who will absolutely give you a refund if you didn’t understand about this membership and you do not want it.
The thing about this company is that they don’t TELL you about the upcoming $46 fee!!!! If you had $46 to ask a question to a lawyer then you probably have the money to get an actual consultation from an actual lawyer who you know for certain is a lawyer! So you’re not just taking money dishonestly, you’re taking it from those who don’t have it!!!! Taking $46 from a person who doesn’t have it can have an impact on their life, whether or not they can feed their kids that week, gas in their car, etc - here’s the thing, if you are upfront about taking money then you wouldn’t have this many reviews from people saying that they had no idea you would be taking MORE MONEY from them!!!!
The review speak for themselves!!!! Companies such as this is why people are skeptical of handing out their debit card numbers, because of dishonest companies like this! I’m posting the response in which I was told that I was not eligible for a refund - so apparently, that one question - where I asked what could I do in regards to renting a house that was infested with mold & a child hospitalized with ACUTE respiratory failure - cost me $51 - for an opinions!! Membership can be canceled at any time. "Meanwhile, I’ve taken a look at your account and unfortunately you are not eligible for a refund and I'd like to confirm that your membership was successfully cancelled on 3/29/2019. Moving forward, you will not see any recurring membership charges. If you would like to enroll in a membership in the future, please!!"
Original Review: I consented to the $5 - I was even pleased with the response, and thought hey, I could use this again! That was until a few weeks later and I was trying to figure out where a $46 charge came from and I realized it was them. I immediately canceled my membership - tried reporting it to my credit union, but they couldn’t do anything, so I emailed these people again and no response. I had a 7 year old in the hospital at this time. She sure could have used the $46 they took. They should be absolutely ashamed.

I paid $5.00 for answer to one question. Answer did not work first. Tried twice more, then worked for one time. Did not solve problem. $5.00 was charged quickly to my charge card. 8 days later a $46.00 dollar charge appeared on my card. Unknown charge that I had no knowledge of nor agreed to. Called company. Got the runaround. Said I wanted to talk to a manager but they would not connect me to one. They said they would have one call me within 15 minutes, they never called.
This is a very deceptive practice. They are not interested in the $5.00 dollars. They are interested in this $46.00 charge they add. I read that some people were told about 7 day cancellation rule. They wait till 8 days before they post charge. They said satisfaction guaranteed. I am 72 years old. I should not have to deal with this kind of treatment from a company. Not an acceptable way to treat a military veteran or anyone else.

This company is a big SCAM!! STAY AWAY!! I paid 5 dollars only to get a generic answer. Then cancelled my membership before the 7 day trial and was still charged 46 dollars. Call customer service. Both the representative and supervisor was very rude. So my membership is cancelled now after they took my money. They told me I need to send in proof of the date I cancelled my membership. But when I asked them to send me proof that I didn't cancel before 7 days they wouldn't do that.
Bottom line is this company takes 46 dollars plus the 5 dollars you already pay for a basic answer and won't give a refund. If they do this to everybody that signs up think about all the money they are making scamming people. Plus there is no proof this is really a professional or somebody just looking up answers. Lesson learned. I will be calling my bank and reporting this fraudulent charge. Also I am calling corporate to report the rude rep and supervisor. JustAnswer should be ashamed to take advantage of people like this. Call and get your card cancelled and get a new one because they will probably try to charge you again. SCAMMERS, SCAMMERS, SCAMMERS!!!

I used the site once and was charged $5, only to see a pending charge of $46 on my credit card a week later. I didn’t think this was a big deal considering a lot of companies autoenroll you after a membership trial and usually you can cancel the membership and get your money back. My experience seems to be like so many others. I paid for a trial membership and the person who attempted to assist with my question was courteous. The immediate red flag came after I asked the question I received a reply that for an additional charge I could speak to the person directly on the phone. I chose not to. On that very day I attempted to cancel the trial membership and now one month later I see a $46 charge on my credit card.
I instantly called their customer service to ask for a reversal of the charge since I did try to cancel and was told me that the cancellation never went through and they do not reverse charges. Well how convenient for them that the cancellation didn't go through! I can only imagine how many other people have tried to cancel to no avail. My 10-year old Kindle froze repeatedly. It was given to me as a gift, so I had no idea: 1) how to go about getting it repaired, or 2) if it was fixable. Plus, it had nearly 300 books on it that I didn't want to lose. When I went online & typed in "What do I do to repair a Kindle?" I was taken to a JustAnswer website. I read how I could get a trial membership for $5.00, & cancel it at any time. I was desperate to fix my Kindle, so I signed up, & asked online how I could get my Kindle repaired. The JustAnswer answerer advised me of several steps to try. He also asked me to rate his help. I told him I would & rated him immediately. When I tried to return to him to ask him "If these steps don't work in fixing my Kindle, what do I do next?" I couldn't get back on the site; I was locked out.
I complained to JustAnswer in an email, & I was given the opportunity to ask part 2 of my question to another answerer - what to do next, since the Kindle still wasn't working, after completing the recommended steps. The second answerer gave me the exact same steps to try, to fix it, which didn't work the second time around either. But I did get to ask, what do I do when these steps don't repair it. He gave me the Kindle phone number to call. (I did have the number written down, which I didn't realize until he gave me their number.) I ended up calling Kindle & buying a new Kindle. So the JustAnswer people basically gave me a phone number & that's all.
I did remember to cancel the membership immediately, before the trial period ended. But, when I got my bank statement yesterday, I saw a charge of $46.00 from JustAnswer, in addition to the $5.00 membership fee. I called JustAnswer this morning, only to be told they won't refund the $46.00, which he couldn't even tell me what it was for, or why they wouldn't refund it. I think it represents the cost of one month of membership, which shouldn't have applied, because I had canceled the membership immediately. The operator rudely insisted they had told me about this fee, but obviously they had not. I never would have agreed to pay a total of $51.00 to ask one question. This "service" is just one more online scam. I am going to call my bank to tell them not to let JustAnswer steal anymore money from my account.

My wife contacted JustAnswer and asked a question. It was not answered. She paid $5.00. Three days later we were charged $49.53. My wife contacted this scam company and we finally received a refund of $49.43. Yes, that is correct, 10 cents less than the charge which kind of tell you how efficient their billing department is. Well hold on, it gets better. THREE DAYS AFTER THIS SCAM, WE WERE CHARGED $69.59 AND HAD NOT HAD ANY CONTACT WITH JustAnswer OTHER THAN RECEIVING A REFUND EMAIL. I have now had to report this fraud to Capital One, put a stop on my wifes card and request another can be sent so these bandits cannot do this again. If you are smart, do not have anything to do with this bunch of bandits!!!

Hello Warren,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this issue. We're sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.
In looking into your account it looks like you were in Mexico when you posted your question, as such, you were charged in Mexican Pesos. As we are a US company, the funds are then converted into USD with a conversion fee. Once the refund was processed, the funds were transferred back to your account minus a currency conversion fee that varies based on the valuation between the USD and Mexican Peso on any given day.
You were charged MX$950.00 and we issued a refund for MX$950.00, the difference that you ae seeing between the charge and the refund is due to this value fluctuation and any fees levied by your bank. Your CapitalOne card representative should be able to explain this to you as well.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

I can't say I wouldn't recommend the site because the attorney I spoke with was super helpful and I rated and tipped him as such however funnily enough the website worked just fine until I went to cancel my membership. I agreed to the $5 membership with the full intentions of canceling it the same day unlike most who forget about it then are shocked when they're charged for the membership they SIGNED UP FOR. When you go to the page to cancel it asks for a reason why, all well and good EXCEPT the box flashes away and you're back where you started before you can type anything or hit the final cancel button.
If you can wiggle around until you find a way to cancel it (I can only hope anyway because the page after hitting cancel wouldn't load either) you're still stuck with the account, which has your card info, to delete that you have to contact customer service and you guessed it. There's a page error there too. Not my computer trust me. I cleared my cookies and had no issues there or on any other website all night until I went to start canceling things. I'm calling my bank in the morning to flag any more charges they may try to make but would only recommend if you're seriously in a bind and don't mind possibly losing about $40-50 more than planned.

I thought something was happening on my credit card. On reviewing my account I find that I have been paying $46 monthly to them. They insist that I agreed to the terms. It is highly unlikely that I would have done that on my budget. However, they agreed to close my account and send me an email verifying same. I have not received any email. I utilized the JustAnswer service for a quick initial question about a subwoofer speaker that had some issues. The expert replied timely and I was notified of a $5 charge to receive an answer. I agreed to the charge and conversed with the expert until I was satisfied. A week later I noticed I had been automatically charged $46 from my checking account for membership fees. This was not my intention and when I called cust-serv. they explained that it was not refundable and I was out of luck.
I had a simple question that was answered quickly and I agreed to pay $5 for. I did not agree to join as a member and pay a membership fee of $46 a week later. This is shady business practice and to not have a refund policy is even worse! It's like taking money out of the pockets of people without them knowing. Your fine pint and policy terms are despicable and I would caution anyone from using JustAnswer services as they may be the next victim. All I want is my $46 returned to my checking as I did not use or agree to a membership. I paid the $5 for the information I was seeking and it should have stopped there! Do the right thing and refund me! Your company should be ashamed of its policy practices.

I asked one question about a painting I bought. Before I know it, I am enrolled in a membership, which they did not divulge through an email or any type of notification. Their approach is very deceptive. I called today (3 March 19) to cancel my "membership." The customer service agent was nice, cordial, and very apologetic. I told her I would like a refund since they did not have my consent to sign up for the membership. I was placed on hold until she spoke with her higher ups. She came back to tell me because of my membership type she could not refund my money, a membership I never signed up for.
I hope JustAnswer needed my hard earned money for a membership I never knew about. They need to be upfront and honest in presenting these memberships to ensure that consumers do want it. I hope that my "membership" is truly cancelled. I thanked her for nothing. I will now go to different sites to lodge my complaints with JustAnswer. A visit to the Federal Trade Commission will be in order. They need to change their deceptive approach!

However his advice was based on absolute worst-case scenario. So while it was good to know what the worst case was it ended up not being that situation with my car. I would have liked to know a couple different scenarios that it could be instead of the worst one. -1 star for that.
The other issue occurred a month after my purchase. I was charged $41 for a membership fee by JustAnswer.com. The advertisement said I had a free 7-Day trial period but nowhere did I see that I would be billed automatically after the seven-day period. I disputed the charge and they did remove the membership fee after I argued and asked them to show me the document that I signed up for a membership. They could not show me a document but said it was on the terms of agreement. This is just plain bad business and customer service! Obviously they're trying to trick people into subscribing to a monthly service. If they were more upfront about it instead of hiding the fact, then it would not be trickery. The individual at Just Answer, after I explained my situation, suggested he take control of my computer and work the problem remotely. REALLY? He suggested I let a complete stranger access my computer remotely? YES that is exactly what he did. I terminated the connection, and figured the $5.++ would be refunded. Little did I know "JustAnswer" is NOT a customer friendly site. They send e-mails regarding continuation of membership, however, IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND to the e-mail they will CONTINUE CHARGING YOUR ACCOUNT A MONTHLY FEE. Rather than having a verification from the customer to continue the membership, they do just the opposite. Although, this would be more customer friendly asking the customer to respond to a verification to continue the membership. However, by them continuing their business practices as such, I'm sure they REAPING the benefits of this practice. Mind you by the time you notice what is going on, they will not issue any refunds even though you have not visited the site since the initial visit.

I used JustAnswer to seek some medical advice in January and I was charged Rs. 300. It was advertised as RS 300. I was charged 3280 again in January though I didn't take any advice. I'm charged 3280 again in February for no advice. This is a fraudulent payment charged from your company again and again. I don't have a membership and I want full refund of both 3280 charged twice. I would have to take legal action against the company if no refund is given immediately.

Not impressed with this service. I had an after hours veterinary emergency with a 9 yr old cat and just needed some answers to get me through the night, until I could take my cat to the vet the next morning. The Vet I got was critical - of me and of my regular vet - also very impersonal and used "cut and paste" medical information in his first response to me, not even addressing my actual concerns - just parroting back to me my cat's condition. I needed to belabor the point and press him for a relevant response. In his final response he criticized my regular vet and basically made me feel pretty lousy. I was going to let it go, and chalk it up to experience, but then he asked me to give him a 5 star review!
In the stress of the moment, I'm afraid I wrote back exactly what I thought of his "expert" opinion. Now when I research that question, since I've had numerous emails from JustAnswer saying that I need to view the responses from my expert, I find that they have removed my final written response to him, in which I clearly called out his unprofessional behavior and clearly stated how unsatisfied I was with his help. Any legitimate company will allow the negative feedback to stand alongside the positive feedback. That right there tells me to smell a rat with this company.
If they can't handle honest negative feedback and feel the need to remove it, then there's a problem. I paid my $5, and I have not been charged any other fees. But their thin-skinned reaction to my honest and legitimate negative impressions of this experience is troubling and should give prospective customers pause before they use this service. I now have to doubt all the glowing 5-star reviews on their site. My 2-star review shows up, but my written response to the vet is gone. That's a very bad practice. So I say, beware and use with caution and at your own risk. My cat, by the way, in opposition to this expert's dire predictions, is fine.

Hello Christine,

feedback isn't edited or removed unless the feedback doesn't help to progress the conversation i.e. expletives or personal insults.
It might be that the information that you entered went to a review form which was not a part of the Q&A thread that you were involved in, that may be the case if the feedback was provided immediately after the rating.

Beware, this company and its owners are scamming unsuspecting consumers (a senior, in my case) in the worst way: offering a trial membership ($5.00), giving you 7 DAYS to cancel before converting to a full membership @ $46.00. In fact, JustAnswer's own website advertises that your trial membership "automatically transitions into a full membership AFTER THE 7th DAY". I signed up for the trial ($5.00) on 2/4/19, then cancelled same 6 DAYS later, on 2/10/19, per their advertised terms. I have documentary proof of my cancellation of trial membership on the 6th day, by my email sent to JustAnswer, which will be included in my complaint to the CA Attorney General, Consumer Fraud Division, Federal Trade Commission, BBB and any news media consumer watchdogs I can interest in this story, in the event JustAnswer does not immediately credit my credit card account for the $46.00 fraudulently billed.
Despite my having terminated my trial membership one day short of the advertised 7 days, JustAnswer went ahead and billed me for their permanent membership ($46) on 2/11/19, clearly a deceptive business practice and fraud. A further deception on the part of JustAnswer is that they claim to send out "at least one" notification email notice prior to their upcoming auto-renewal, which they never did - another lie and fraudulent representation on the part of JustAnswer. As anyone can see, this excellent service and website by Consumer Affairs is chock full of complaints by dozens, if not hundreds, of almost identical experiences of fraudulent billing practices on the part of JustAnswer.

After a week I did not pursue the matter any further, although I did notice attempts on the part of JustAnswer to maintain a semblance of continual dialog. Ignoring this, and having not indicated any desire or intention to take out a full subscription for the purpose of continuous membership, I was quite flummoxed to discover that my debit card had been charged £40 as a monthly subscription fee! None of the 'experts' seemed to have all the information I continuously was inputting. I was just happy it only cost me $5.00.
Well a week went by and I was getting ready to pay my car insurance when I noticed more than half my deposit was gone! I called my bank but they said since I accepted invoices (the $5.00) from this merchant before, I had to go to them for a refund, not my bank for a dispute. I immediately emailed JustAnswer.com explaining I didn't have enough for my car insurance, it was unintentional to sign up for a membership AND I never received a warning that this so called free trial was expiring. I wrote back very angry and of course they still won't budge! Their responses are condescending and "nothing we can do"! I've had the same experience as so many others on this review website. I paid $5 to ask a question with the understanding that the $5 was for a one-week trial membership. The "expert's" answer indicated he didn't really understand my question (I admit my question was rather complex). After a follow-up exchange with similar result, I decided not to pursue the matter further with JustAnswer.
A month later when I received my credit card statement, JustAnswer had charged me another $28 for a full membership, which I know I didn't purchase and did not push any button on their website to do so. Upon calling JustAnswer, they agreed to cancel my membership but refused to refund my $28 stating it was already entered into their system and therefore was non-refundable(?).
The supervisor told me their terms were: if I didn't cancel membership during the one week trial period - they automatically billed $28 for the full membership. This seems a rather backward way of signing up customers. I don't want to use the word SCAM - but this certainly is not an honest way of doing business! The supervisor said my only option was to "extend" my membership further at a better price (LOL). I said his only option was my writing this review.

An answer was given, but very generic, like made by a computer program (robot). Not real expert living people. So, answer not responded correctly. Then charges of $34 will appear monthly without your permission. Called their customer service, they say, "You are responsible for those charges because you signed up for a membership." Refund never received. In my case, I lost $141.00 and no correct answer received. Check BBB.com they state "This business receives a high volume of complaints." Complaints on file stated consumers pay the $5.00 question fee but are later charged additional amounts. And BBB.com is only publishing 25% of this business’s complaints online!

If you agree to pay ANYTHING more than the basic, the site automatically "rates" the "expert" a five-star (involuntarily on your part, you have no say at that point). Also, the "experts" are working attorneys and do their best to get you to go to offline discussion, then give you their normal hourly rates ($250/hrly or more) if you want to continue. Have heard it was a good, fast, cheap way to get legal questions answered. It was. Now it's a scam site. You CANNOT trust any "reviews" of "experts" as they're fake (the site "reviews" the attorneys for you, at five-stars, prob to up the site's ratings). Scam/deceptive site. Find answers somewhere else.

After being on a monthly program for forever and paying faithfully every month: never late they CANCELLED me. I tried to post a question and was told I had to pay MORE. When I contacted them the 5th time someone finally told me I had been cancelled because I had too many usages. That struck me as odd since not long ago they told me I wasn't using it enough and I needed to post MORE questions. My take is my monthly fee wasn't enough money for them so they simply cancelled me with no notification or warning. I am spitting mad. IMO they had a contract with me that they decided not to honor so I'm out UNLESS I want to pay more.

Contacted them about a treadmill. Got connected to the company that sent the part I needed. For $5 that was ok. Then credit card company called and said they had charged me $46 which I had not authorized. Card company (VISA) gave me a phone number to call. JUSTANSWER tried to say I was responsible because I had not cancelled. Lady on the phone was polite but not willing to cancel until I said that VISA would cancel if they did not. Then she cancelled.

I came to this website to ask a question about a treadmill. I thought there was a $5 charge. Afterwards, they started sending me tons of emails which I quit reading, as I had my question answered. Then I saw a $46 charge on my credit card bill. I called and asked for a refund, and they basically told me, "Too bad. You didn't cancel." I really didn't know there was anything to cancel. Now I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. They don't care... Once they get your cc number you will be facing additional charges.

They charge 46$ every month. I did not notice for 2 months. I called customer care. They are well trained to say "we Automatically charge every month not to disturb Customer experience". Even this guys know that customer will not visit this site again but they charge monthly. They said they will send a mail before charging. It's true but that mail Subject is poorer than Spam mails. When I requested that they make an exception for me since it was so close to the deadline and I hadn't used the service again after the first day they said NOPE. To be fair, I have used this site in the past and experienced no difficulties. My latest experience, however, was different. It has been a while since I've posted a question, but this time around, my encounter with JustAnswer proved to be less than seamless. Initially, the answer that I received, suggested that my initial question had been incompletely or hastily reviewed. Eventually, I was referred to a link that, ultimately, didn't specifically answer my questions. After noticing that the mechanic's response was off the mark, I could not find a way to communicate my response, so I opened a previous window in order to try to re-ignite my discussion with my representative/mechanic. Apparently, this resulted in my submitting a duplicate question and an additional charge, subsequently waived.
After my mechanic asked if I had any other questions, I mentioned that I wanted to know how to cancel. I was informed that my inquiry would remain open unless I entered a rating of 3 stars or greater. To me, this sounds a little bit like extortion. It is not my aim to receive a refund of the five dollars charged to my credit card (to which I am apparently entitled to receive). I simply want to make certain that no further charges will be levied against my card. I have no doubt that the majority of people utilizing JustAnswer, have positive experiences, but a dedicated search of online reviews suggests that this site has its share of limitations and that it might not be suited for some people.

Avoid at all costs. These people are super shady. I needed help with a legal question. They said, "Get an answer for just five dollars!" So I paid. Then, as soon as you get the answer, they go, "SURPRISE! - you were just charged another $31 on top of that, for a total of $36." Ok, whatever, I'll swallow the bait & switch because I need the answer. The answer I received was extremely generic, by the way - just two super broad, super short sentences with no nuance or real explanation (think, “No, you can’t do that. Thank you”). All the while, they're trying to upsell you - pay this much, pay that much, and I said no to everything. I just wanted my answer.
A week later, I have an additional, unauthorized charge in my account for $46! I contact their customer service via chat and they claim I signed up for a "membership". Not true. I ask for a refund, saying I never authorized this, was not notified in any way, and declined all their extra upsell offers. The person tells me only their supervisor can give me a refund and they are not available. So I try again and pose as a new customer trying to buy something - surprise, the supervisor is available!
I get constant resistance about the refund. "But you signed up for our membership sir!" I say, "No I didn't. Give me a refund." "But life is full of questions, sir!" "Give me a refund." "But our service bla bla". "Give me a refund." On and on. They eventually offer me a 30% discount if I stay. Give me a refund. And on and on, making it really hard for me to rectify things. Don't give these people your card. I'm on the lookout now for any future charges they may try to sneak through.

On December 23, 2019, after I googled a problem I was having with my Mac, I initially thought I was being taken to an APPLE partner site. When I saw that they wanted to charge me $64 for an answer as well as a $5 charge for something else, I knew I was in the wrong place. So I immediately contacted their chat help, explained to them what had happened, and asked them to please cancel these charges immediately, which they said they would do. I asked them to please email me immediately to confirm that the charges were canceled, which they did. What they didn't mention, however, was that, although they would proceed to cancel those charges, I would later be SUBJECTED TO A MEMBERSHIP FEE OF CA$84, WHICH IS, IMO, OUTRAGEOUS.
FURTHERMORE, THE MEMBERSHIP CHARGE WAS NEVER EXPLAINED TO ME BY THE HELP DESK CHAT. I may have unknowingly signed up for it WHEN I thought I was on an Apple-related site and that it was free, but no one ever told me that I had purchased a "Free" membership that would auto-renew on December 29, 2018. Nor did I get an email 3 days prior to December 29th (as their website says I should have) informing/warning me that it was about to auto-renew and would cost me CA$84! As I got NOTHING from them in the way of answers or help, I would have emailed them to cancel that charge immediately, as well!
I did however receive two emails from them on CHRISTMAS DAY (which was 4 days prior to the Dec 29th date), but, again, neither mentioned I was about to incur a charge of $84 CDN. This is an egregious and deceitful business practice that should be illegal, as it basically entraps unsuspecting prospective customers with misinformation, using language designed to obscure, obfuscate and redirect their understanding of the "free" aspect of the account so they can fraudulently charge them for a "membership," a few days later. How do these pirates get away with such outrageous and surely illegal practices?

I have used JustAnswer several times since they began. I had truly wonderful experiences at first, then a couple of satisfactory experiences. This time, it has been a nightmare from the start, although they have a few more days to fix it before I will demand my money back and never use or recommend JustAnswer again. What an incredible pity!
For example, one new thing that astonishes and disgusts me is the rating and reviews of the experts. While waiting for a phone response from my assigned "expert" (which never came), JustAnswer AUTOMATICALLY GAVE HER 5 STARS. The website says "You rated 5 stars. Thank you. Write a review or give a bonus". I contacted customer care and told them I never did -- and never would -- give her 5 stars, and they told me this is automatic, and cannot be changed! Good grief, then there is no point whatsoever to their "rating" system.
So I wrote a little review expressing my disappointment with her non-service and submitted it. I NEVER SAW MY REVIEW AGAIN. I asked Customer Care how do customers get to see the Reviews of the Experts, and they told me that we can NOT see the reviews! Again, then what is the point? I tried to express this to Customer Care but these non-English-speakers could "care" less.

I was looking for answers. I posted a question to my browser. This site is the first on the list. Going to "Just Answer", I am offered a chat session with a tech assistant. I am asked questions about my issue. The presumption is that I have a problem that I want solved, not that I want answers (site name notwithstanding). The chat isn't with a real person, it is a bot. I answer a few relevant and a few irrelevant questions and am then promised an agent for "answers." But first I need to pay $5.00. This is a surprise, but OK, it is just $5.00. But we forget it is a weekly charge. I go ahead and approve the charge.
After a short while I receive a notice that an "expert" is ready to help. This person asks another question that I’ve already answered and without reading my answer asks if I want him/her to connect to my computer. I indicate no, but I am again faced with the need to approve a charge of $39.95. Never mind that I don’t allow those I do not know free access to my foundation computer, I have to ask, what is this person’s expertise? If I am going to open up foundation files to this person, shouldn’t that person pay me? I believe people are innocent until proven guilty, but there can only be two possibilities: we have a fraudulent computer expert or we have a thief. Either way, this is not good.

Several weeks ago, I signed up with the $5 trial fee to get an answer to an unbelievably simple question about my oven and try out this service. First, I was asked repetitively to answer the same basic questions about model, age, etc of appliance that I already answered. I was NEVER contacted by a technician or received a response of any type to my question.
Next I got a survey asking how the service was, which I filled out in detail, with no relevant response. All the responses are "canned" and reflect no real reading of my actual message. Ultimately, responses ranged from "it can take time to answer a complicated question" to "we'll try to find you a different technician" but I've still never heard from anyone in response to my question. All I got were daily promos for their service and more surveys. Mixed in with these was a notice on Christmas day that my regular fee would begin immediately. I was out-of-town and wrote the next day to cancel and ask that no fee be charged, under the circumstances, referencing my previous emails. I've now been told that's "not possible" but I can pay per service in the future if I choose! Called about a serger, got a mechanic. Got no answers but lots of charges to my credit card. Called them on it and they refused a refund. I am so angry... this is a sham! They did cancel my “membership”, which I didn’t sign up for but refused to refund the many charges they made to my credit card. It was advertised to pay $5 to answer a question, which they did not do. I am very angry about this. They suck you in if you ask a question, they automatically charge a membership fee and a bunch of other fees, which I was unaware of. DO NOT TRUST THIS... they are dishonest!

I got my answer after 2 minutes. I thought nothing of it until I was billed $47.00 today. I had no contact from them via email and at no time was I told of any extra charges. After reading of other people's experiences I went to their site to cancel my "membership". I clicked on forgot password and put my email address in to reset my password. Hello Mary,
We're very sorry for any confusion.
The Experts have usernames on their accounts, along with mini-profile names. The username on Dr. Stan's account is DrStaywell. His mini-profile name for the Medical category is Dr. Stan. He is a DO, being a US trained, board certified physician. We use a third-party verification company to verify all of the Experts on the site so you can be assured that he is a real doctor.
Urology questions are often dual-categorized with the Medical questions category, which means that physicians like Dr. Stan can respond. Even though he did not specialize in Urology, his training/education did cover this area.

I just had the worst experience with an online help company I have ever had. The site help person responded quickly to my request, asked a few more questions than requested me to send $5. I sent the $5 but to continue on the site it request another $28 dollars which I promptly paid because I really needed an answer. When I finally returned to the page the support person helping me would no longer respond at all to my help questions.
About 1 hour later a Louise sent a chat for me to supply another $28 dollars to help, I explained I had already done that with someone else and he quickly left my chat since I was not going to pay another $28. I then went to the Customer Service page and found a nice message that said Customer Service is available 24/7. Well this is just a complete lie, I sent three messages about what my status is and they responded at 7am PST with a brief message that they had elevated my question. At 8.30 PST I called them for them to tell me that they have no control on when or if they will be able to answer my question, they are not capable of telling me when or call me when an expect is assigned and that they can do nothing about the misinformation on the website.
What I find disappointing is not that an expert is not available but the only time someone spoke to me in chat was to just ask for more money. The company provides no feedback on the site when you I'll get help except for a button on your chat window that say press to see how long until an expert will have your answer which always says 8 minutes. They claim this is the average time a question is answer though I mentioned that this message was extremely misleading. I have had good luck several years ago with this company but it seems to me that they no longer care about anything but to ask you for more money. My experience was disappointing and talking to them, though they were very nice, answer no question and they were not able to provide me help on when I may get help. Thanks.

For a $5 trial I was offered to join JUSTANSWER. My question was about a person calling my home to tell me I had just won 7 million dollars from Publishers Clearing House. They knew a lot about me and even gave my Husband a call back number. It was a very convincing phone call asking if I would like the presentation privately or would I like it shown on TV. I was in a hurry for an appointment, so I asked if I could call him back. He said he'd call me in a couple of hours. He did this and I still was not home, but my husband was and even he was convinced until he called back late at night and got a phone disconnected response.
It was then that I asked in an online question about who could tell me if I was scammed. That's when I suggested to contact JustAnswer as a help center for experts. After about a day I did have a person who said he/she was a lawyer and that Publishers Clearing House never called a recipient ahead of time. They always used the Surprise Patrol, and yes I was scammed for some information. I have now been charged a monthly fee of $46.00 TWICE even though I hadn't used them in two months. I'm going to call them tomorrow about this "monthly" billing. Really! I feel like I've been scammed again!

I read it and found that, even if they refunded the $5, they were going to charge me $49 more. No one mentioned that at all so if you didn't read the "fine print", you were out of luck. I don't know what else I was going to charged for but I certainly wouldn't trust them with my credit card information! I was unfamiliar with JustAnswer and I had felt pressure into giving my credit card info before I realized what exactly I was getting into. In other words, I was rather naive about the situation. I received a response today from JustAnswer. I learned more about their company and how well thought of they are in the business industry. They immediately refunded the $5 and then didn't finishing processing the $31 fee. In other words, I didn't lose any money and I have a much better feeling and understanding of this company. I might even decide to use their services in the future.

The chat window asked my problem and I was referred to a tech and told to put in my credit card information for an automatic $5 refund. I hesitated and felt uncomfortable but in the end I gave the information. The next window, instead of getting me to a tech was an ad for their priority service and how much the different subscriptions were. I didn't want any subscription. I thought I had paid for a tech who I was "told" was waiting for my question. I agonized what to do and felt like I was being take for so I logged out. I immediately went to my credit card website and found I was being charged $31 and $5. I am angry and felt taken advantage of. I called my bank but was unable to talk to a customer service individual. I am going to pursue this.

The one star review stems from my first experience with a Just Answer legal person. - The first lawyer only gave me a partial answer and then completely ignored my second question. He made it clear that he was NOT an employee of Just Answer and that he had a real legal business. I asked for a phone call per the prompts and the first lawyer barrister did NOT respond and yet my credit card was charged. I then had to respond back to Just Answer about my dissatisfaction. The second lawyer phone me but was questioning whether I had paid the $59 for the call. She told me that there is a lag time between the time the card info is taken and when it is posted. The good news is that the 2nd lawyer stuck with me and was able to respond to my questions. If I had to write the review for this lawyer only, I would have given her a 4-star rating.

Then I got charged again this month after I even received cancel confirmation from them. The mechanic that I spoke with (Keep in mind that I'm somewhat mechanically inclined), guided me step by step on where the parasitic leak that was draining the battery was coming from. He made sure I had the multi meter and the leads in the correct slots, asked a bunch of questions to make sure that this was done right, and even stayed on the phone with me while I was testing the fuses and disconnecting connections. His knowledge was far more advanced than what I have found on many YouTube videos and forums. I wouldn't have figured out the issue without him.
Keep in mind, the $26 phone call is well worth it. I could have taken the vehicle to a dealership for diagnostics and paid $110 for them to tell me I have a short somewhere and lead me down a train of pocket emptying nonsense of constantly taking the vehicle back and wasting even more money on parts that I didn't need. I recommend Eric ** for any of your Chrysler needs. He takes his time and will pull up schematics as needed to help. Thank you for keeping money in my pocket and out of the dealers.

Then they charged my credit card $46 with notice or authorization. I have to go and cancel and request a refund. TOTAL SCAM.

Hello David,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this, we apologize for any confusion that you experienced in using the site.
JustAnswer has always been a paid site and has never claimed to be a free service. There are plenty of free sources of information on the internet, however we have never been one of them. The $5.00 charge is a deposit on the 7-day trial of the membership. The membership is billed automatically after 7 days to avoid a disruption in service.
Customers are sent several receipt and notification emails over the course of the 7-day trial with both the cost and membership billing date. It sounds like these notifications may have gotten routed to your spam folder.
Please reach out to our Customer Care team at Support@justanswer.com or by phone at, 1-800-509-5721 and we'd be happy to take any action on your account to resolve this concern.

They do not respond in minutes, but they do take your money in minutes. Poor service. Poor communication. Poor quality. Deceptive. I requested a refund, and their responses are nothing but blah blah blah... It has been almost (5) days. Seems they may have been waiting for the free trial to also charge me before responding... I'll file a BBB as well...

I paid £13 on Saturday 22-09-2018 and did not get any information relating to my question. I started off another chat to get the persons attention to try and find out why their system was telling me the mechanic would come back to me in 8 mins (this was an hour later). After some unrelated questions from the chat operative I was automatically put back through your payment system.
So I actually question whether there is actually a live person on your chat. As their questions had absolutely nothing to do with the information was putting into the chat. I was talking about gears and they were asking me about headlights... Then the system put me back through the payment procedure. Which 'appears' to indicates it was a automaton not an actual person that I was communicating with. Or the person did not give a damn about the customer. I am requesting a full refund of the money I have already paid and that you cancel my subscription with immediate effect. As I got nothing but frustration from your site.

Hello K,
Thanks for letting us know about this delay, we're sorry for any frustration you experienced, it normally doesn't take this long to get a reply.
It also sounds like you may have been a bit thrown of by Pearl Wilson, our Chat-bot on the homepage. Pearl's job is to gather as much information as possible to pass along to the Experts but she isn't capable of answering any questions yet.
If you can reach out to our Customer Care team we'd be happy to look into this for you.

We live in a remote rural area (85 miles one-way to the grocery store). I am confined to a power wheelchair with a ventilator. Getting useful medical advice without traveling to town or much further to a city is cost-effective and practical. The advice I received was timely and helpful.

I paid $5 for a question and never got an answer. I was thinking that's it. Today I saw on my bank account, that they took every month $46 for nothing. I never agreed for such an agreement. Then I tried with a chat, but this person gave me not any answers to my question and but my directly to a lawyer. I'm very pissed off and hope I get my money back and for sure, I let my bank know, what kind of business JustAnswer.com are.

Well worth the $47 to get concise, direct advice regarding my complicated child custody situation. I got peace of mind and a real answer rather than the conflicting nonsense I got from everyone else involved (who were not lawyers). I will use this again if/when preparing to self-file any motions in the future.

I signed up for a single answer for a $5 fee. Of course, a week later a $49 charge shows up on my bank statement. I call billing to get a refund. No, they claim I chose the monthly membership at $49 a month. I assured them I did not. They were kind enough to cancel my membership, but no refund. I have no idea who would sign up for this service at $49 a month. I asked if that was the annual amount...being the dope that I am. Simply, my suggestion is, stay away from JustAnswer!

Hello Robert,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this. We're sorry to hear about the confusion you experienced.
Unfortunately, if the membership was used to post any questions, that month's membership charge is not subject to a refund. It does sound like our Customer Care agent was able to cancel the recurring billing for you.
Your account will remain open and you can pay for questions on a individual basis moving forward.
Let us know if you've got any other questions about your account or the service and we'd be happy take the time to walk you through the benefits of the site.

Was told that for 59 bucks an "Expert " would contact me within a few minutes. I said OK but never received a phone call. I called their 888 number and got nothing but a runaround and vague promises that I would be contacted by phone ASAP. Still waiting for that ASAP call. I wish I had read the reviews first!

I agreed to pay $5 and nothing else. As soon as I was asked to pay more, I left the site. PayPal asked me to text if I wanted to proceed. I didn't but payment ($56) was still taken from me! JUSTANSWER.COM is a rat race and a farce and a scam!!

Hello John,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this, we apologize for any confusion about the cost of the service.
Typically when posting a question to the site there is a $5.00 deposit posted and the remainder of the deposit is processed once you receive a reply.
In looking at your account, it appears that because you were using PayPal at the payment method, the charge had to be combined into one payment as PayPal does not allow for a deposit and then a second charge.
Customers are notified of this change in billing on the billing page on our site, as well on the PayPal account page where you are required to authorize the charge for a second time.
It does appear that you've rated the mechanic positively and paid him for his assistance with your F-150 question.
If you've got any other questions about your account or the site, please don't hesitate to reach back out to us and we're happy to help.

Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for letting us know about this, we apologize for any confusion.
When paying with PayPal, customers do not have the ability to place the $5.00 deposit and must pay he full question deposit value up front.
In looking at your account I can see that it does not appear that you've viewed the response from the technician and that your $56.00 charge has already been refunded..
