What is Safe Ship Moving?

Safe Ship Moving Services is a licensed interstate broker, meaning it connects customers with qualified carriers to complete local and long-distance moves. Safe Ship Moving’s services include local, long-distance, corporate, military and some international moves. The company has helped more than 30,000 families with moves nationwide, according to its website.

Each move is assigned a dedicated coordinator who is the main point of contact during the process. The coordinator will work with you to book a carrier for your specific move at a price that works for your budget.

If a problem comes up, customers can reach out to this coordinator, who will try to solve or escalate the issue. Reviews show some customers have positive experiences with quick help, while others mention delays or trouble getting answers.

Safe Ship Moving FAQ

Is Safe Ship Moving a carrier or broker?

Safe Ship Moving is a licensed interstate broker that connects people with carriers that do the actual moving. You can verify Safe Ship Moving’s registration as a household goods moving broker on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website.

When you book with a broker, a third-party carrier will do the move, and you may not get carrier details until close to your moving date. This means that pricing can change, since brokers give estimates that carriers might adjust based on the actual move. Note that if you have questions or concerns before or during your move, you may need to deal with both Safe Ship Moving and the carrier.

Do we recommend Safe Ship Moving?

Safe Ship Moving may be a good option if you want help coordinating a local or long-distance move and don’t mind working with a broker instead of a carrier directly. The company assigns each customer a dedicated move coordinator and offers services like full-service packing, storage, and corporate and military moves.

However, information on Safe Ship Moving’s website is limited, and customers must call or request a callback to get pricing details. Because Safe Ship is a broker, a third-party carrier completes the move, and final pricing or carrier details may not be confirmed until closer to moving day.

We recommend comparing carrier information, features, prices and customer service from Safe Ship Moving with offerings from other brokers and carriers to make the right decision for you.

I’m delighted to write a review for Connor **! What a personable and diligent employee he is of Safe Ship!! Unfortunately for Connor, he had to take over for Alexandra ** when I got stuck in the next spot of the process for claims damage by my mover. I had reached out to Alex for the fifth time and she had moved to the Customer Experience Team for Safe Ship. She told me that she would connect me with another in the Escalations Department. I was blessed to get Connor!! He contacted me the very day that I had spoken to Alex. His schedule was flexible and he let me call him when I returned home from our storage space.

My story was pitiful and took me at that point 30 minutes to relate and Connor waited until I was thoroughly done speaking since other items occurred to me toward the end of the story. The mover was a “bait and switch” operation so I had more than one problem that had to be dealt with. I was overcharged and told I would be refunded when my items were delivered, but I wasn’t. There was damage to window blinds when furniture was moved into the condo in addition to all of the damage from offloading that took place after the owner lied about the timing.

We had given up our guaranteed delivery day which we had paid $673 extra for but when we were told our belongings would be offloaded we changed our schedule for the mover and when our things were loaded the next day, he had that truck offloaded immediately and loaded onto another truck because of his poor planning of equipment! Connor tried repeatedly to write to the owner of the company. The owner was not responding to his emails. He got back to me even though he had not had results. He stoically said he would continue and he did. When he did reach the mover, the mover was steadfast that things had to go through that moving claims company.

In the meantime, I read through all of the fine print that went with this moving claims company. That company prevented saving your work, would not let your input be printed nor copied and pasted. The system disconnected me three times and the only option was to start all over again!! After another 30 days I gave up! I contacted Connor and voiced my frustration again, he kindly listened to me, what a respectful young man he is!! There was no way to recoup the $673 through the claims company and I knew I couldn’t jump through all of their hoops. It was a process designed to get a person to just give up. Connor again tried to reach the owner for me, he really went the extra mile, though this owner doesn’t deserve to be in business because of his ethics!

Connor is deliberately conscientious! He listens, processes, and goes forward with a positive attitude! It is evident in his voice that his wish is to specifically help and make things better in any way that he can! He endeavors to give impeccable service and be pleased at the end of his day that he has done his best for the customer!!

We’ve always been hesitant to use moving companies because of horror stories about scams, hidden fees, and honestly just trusting strangers with our entire lives packed into one truck. Because of that, we’ve always moved ourselves with a U-Haul. That changed when we got an accurate quote from Elizabeth at Safe Ship Moving. The price was nearly the same as moving ourselves, and after speaking with her, we felt confident enough to take the leap.. and I’m SO glad we did.

Elizabeth was incredibly kind and patient, helping us accurately count our items and answering every question I had. She could tell I was nervous and took the time to reassure me that Safe Ship is legitimate and trustworthy. From start to finish, the entire moving process was a breeze and far easier than packing and driving a long haul U-Haul ourselves.

Now let me talk about the movers.. Andrei and Ellis.. because they were AMAZING. These guys were absolute machines. They wrapped and protected our belongings better than we ever could have, carried heavy furniture and boxes up and down two flights of stairs at over 6,000 feet altitude, never once complained, and never took a break. On top of that, they were incredibly friendly, professional, and communicative. They treated our belongings like they were their own, and after meeting them, I immediately knew we had made the right choice.

And the great experience didn’t stop there. Luis ** and Jake ** followed up with us, answered all of our questions, and were incredibly helpful throughout the process. We even had a delivery date hiccup on our end, and they accommodated our delayed delivery without issue, making sure everything stayed on track. During what could have been a very stressful week, they gave me total peace of mind.

As a young working mom, my plate is always full and my brain is constantly running a mile a minute. Safe Ship truly took the stress and burden of moving off my shoulders. You can tell this company has an amazing, family oriented team of real people who genuinely care about their customers. We were so impressed that we’re already referring Safe Ship to my in-laws, who will be moving across the country in a few months. Safe Ship Moving team, thank you so much! If you’re hesitant about choosing a moving company like we were, take it from me.. (a stressed out working mom with Karen-like tendencies, on a tight budget LOL) go with Safe Ship. They are affordable, trustworthy, and absolutely worth it. THANK YOU SAFE SHIP!

I'll be perfectly honest: I almost didn't stick with Safe Ship. A day or so after I signed the contract, I got cold feet. So, I called the company intent on cancelling. After an hour and a half on the phone, Joel and Grover presented a very compelling case and convinced me to give it a little more time and consideration. They even extended the cancellation window as a goodwill gesture. I decided to give them my business. But it came with the warning that any "bait and switch," "gotcha," "red flags," or other potential negatives would be met with consequences the likes of which their company had probably never experienced. They were confident that I would end up being a very satisfied customer. I wasn't sure if it was confidence or stupidity on their part, but I admired the "can do" attitude.

The vehicle transport went off without a hitch. Granted, the pick up was delayed, but I didn't mind because I wasn't in a hurry. I told the company contracted by Safe Ship that it was perfectly fine if the car arrived at its destination late. Much to my surprise, even though it was picked up two days late, the car still arrived at its destination AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!

The household move itself was ... okay. Pickup was a breeze. The crew was punctual, professional, meticulous, and friendly. They even showed up a day ahead of schedule. My box count ended up slightly higher than the estimate so I was charged a few hundred dollars more -- no big deal. But before I was charged, Safe Ship called and told me that before I'd be on the hook to pay even one more dime, they would need video and photographic proof of the overage. I found that level of integrity impressive. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind paying the extra. It was just incredibly impressive that Safe Ship wanted to make certain everything was legit before I made the payment. Drop off wasn't so good. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned.

That said, however, Safe Ship had my back and my interests at heart. From the moment I expressed even the slightest frustration, an entire team at Safe Ship got to work assessing the situation, mediating between me and the moving company, and keeping my best interests at the forefront of every step they took. These people went to bat for me. They dotted every I and crossed every T until I was completely satisfied with the outcome.

Quite frankly, I've never had an experience quite like the one I had with Safe Ship. They exceeded my expectations. They worked tirelessly to ensure my complete satisfaction, their communication was positively remarkable, their candor was refreshing. There simply isn't enough praise that can be heaped on to this company. I don't plan to move again anytime soon, but if I did, I would go with Safe Ship again. They not only earned my business, they earned my trust and my respect. That's not easy.

Joel and Grover took a gamble when they asked me to reconsider cancelling with Safe Ship. Clearly, they knew they could please even the most difficult customer -- not just please -- exceed my expectations. I'm incredibly grateful to them and to the entire Safe Ship company for going above and beyond on my behalf. There's only one word to sum up the experience and that's, "wow." DO NOT HESITATE go with Safe Ship!

Now that it is all done I am very happy! Not just glad that it is over but very happy with the way it went. Safe Ship provided support and coordination throughout the entire process. It was communication from Safe Ship to it subcontractor American Central Moving and the subcontractor communication with the employees on site or on the truck that made this move a success. I must admit I was a little stressed out moving my family’s heavy furniture, antiques, Art, china and glassware across a thousand miles. Communication with Safe Ship by phone or online was effective and served to set up the process in advance. Prior to the move my daughter took the Safe Ship representative through the entire house using her iPhone while the representative itemized the inventory and to project the cost. This was sent to the subcontractor for review. The subcontractor showed up prepared and ready and on time communicating their arrival time.

The team of employees on the ground projected confidence and adjusted their expertise to the various tasks and explained the process as they went. I admit that I was a little stressed out but ground team made me confident that they had the skill set to get the job done! It took a day and a half and two trucks to pack and load everything while at the same time we communicated the destination spaces were each group of items would end up. I gained confidence that this team would get the job done accurately with everything arriving in the correct location to enable us to unpack without having myself and my family having to move heavy items up and down stairs after the trucks were unloaded. The team effectively carried this out while keeping me well informed. I am highly appreciative of the on site team who managed the packing and lifting of the boxes with care and both ends of the 1000 plus mile trip!

The only issue I had was the method of payment which required me to have a cashier check to hand to the firemen at the time of delivery. However, the company was supportive when it became clear that the method was no longer viable and allowed me to wire the funds from my bank account in Chicago. At the destination end the moving team continued in the presence of my family while I remained in Chicago. I had complete confidence that they would deliver and they did a fantastic job! I highly recommend Safe Ship Moving as a team of competent individuals who know what it takes to enable a move of significant size home across more than a thousand miles. They prepared us and were in turn well prepared during the entire process. I highly recommend this company (contractor and subcontractor) for their competent and effective performance of the move and for the customer support provided throughout.

In the end, our experience with Safe Ship was a good one. Their initial customer service in setting up and scheduling our move was great. While we experienced significant (and ongoing) issues with the carrier we were assigned, Safe Ship itself (as a third party broker) turned out well in the end. During the two months while our move was in process we did not have a great experience with Safe Ship or their customer service and we were quite frustrated with the lack of support we were getting in dealing with our carrier. However after the move was over and we submitted a complaint, the rep who handled us changed the whole experience. Edson took the time over multiple phone calls to hear our complaints and read the issues we had submitted. He asked questions and took the time to listen and validate our experience when no one else had.

In fact, after two months of battling with both Safe Ship and our carrier, Edson was the first person to assure us that what we experienced was not ok, that he was equally concerned, and to actually take responsibility (rather than simply cast blame on the carrier). He worked hard to advocate for us, support us, and help find a resolution (as much as was within his and Safe Ship's ability). In the end, it was Edson who turned our experience around. While we would never use the particular carrier we were assigned again, we would consider using Safe Ship's services and that is only because of the attention, care, professionalism, respect, and responsibility that Edson demonstrated. If it weren't for him, we would not be able to leave a good review for Safe Ship.

This was the first time we ever used a professional moving company. Have not moved in 25 years. Safe Ship did a good job of coordinating with the mover Star USA Moving LLC. The team Star USA sent did a very good job in keeping us informed & prepping all furniture before loading the truck.
