I just got transferred to a different branch of the company that I work for and was moving from Des Moines to Virginia. I was trying to find a reputable moving company, and I went through a few that weren't so great. My dad let me know that he used American Van Lines when we moved, 10 years ago now, and he really liked them. They have a lot better reviews online, too. I called them up and the rep was great. I would miss her calls a lot, but she would follow up with emails, which I really appreciated. She would always answer my questions on the same day.

I liked American Van Lines' cost and response time, and I had an excellent experience with my rep. The driver was very kind as well. They came early, so that was nice. Moves are expensive, and I don't like that, but it's nothing against American Van Lines.

The only concern was my delicate set of dishes which have accompanied me since I first started living alone. Every piece was carefully packed and stacked in the correct position so that nothing would shift while being loaded. When I unpacked them later, I had a feeling as if nothing ever moved.

They worked efficiently without being sloppy, making constant assurances to me throughout the process. I liked how they took the time to explain to me what they were doing instead of working silently. When my things were delivered right on time, I felt an immense sense of relief and gratitude.

I had to vacate my place in haste because of a lease problem. Everything was in disarray, and I felt like everything was happening too fast. However, American Van Lines helped me bring some order into the chaos. They were well-organized and focused, and I felt like they had experience in handling situations like this. They were professional, and I appreciated them for that.

The movers showed up on time. They immediately got to work. They worked fast. They promptly addressed all my inquiries regarding the relocation with American Van Lines. They worked fast and answered all of my questions. Everything reached my place safely and on time.

NO - LOOK for another company. No - NO and NO - look for another company. My first time writing such a review. NO look elsewhere. Underestimated pricing, contracted other local cie to move us. Understaffed, poor packing, delays, broken items (I know file a claim right? Take a picture?), poor customer service, delays and U-Haul trucks to move us? Here we are 4 weeks out after our “move” hiring movers to help us clean all the boxes left in the garage or boxes misplaced. The pick up last 14 hours and we had 4 people and 2 of them disappeared for 4-5 hours. I had paid for kitchen packing I ended up doing some of it. The delivery we had 3 people and supposedly the second U-Haul truck (not even a company truck) broke on highway so 1 disappeared for 7 hours to bring it.

The employees were polite and treated my items with care. They gave me all necessary information prior to the beginning of the process, and it relieved some of my worries about relocation. Everything went according to the plan, and none of my belongings suffered.

If you already had issues with them, document everything and consider filing complaints with the BBB, FMCSA, and your state Attorney General. Consumers can also leave truthful, factual reviews about their experiences. I paid American Van Lines over $10,000 for an interstate move from Colorado to California. I was told AVL worked “all in-house,” which influenced my decision to book. Instead, the move was handled by Excellent Van Lines and other contracted workers, which was not disclosed upfront.

American Van Lines proved to be worthy of my trust, and my doubts disappeared. They carefully packaged every corner, constantly checked and asked about anything they were going to do next and did their job perfectly well. Nothing was broken, scratched, or lost.

If I could give them 0 out of 5 stars, I would. This company has been HORRIBLE to work with from the get-go… First, the people moving my apartment were late, then they argued with me about what all was being moved, charged me thousands of dollars extra, and now I am being told my things won't arrive within the time I requested (despite needing my things to start a new job). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I had a better time moving my things cross-country using U-Haul.

The customer service with American Van Lines was good. John and the moving crew were very good.

I Googled American Van Lines and I liked them because they specialized in hauling pianos. The customer service reps and moving crew on both ends were good. But they lost my footstool hassock and I have not heard anything back on that.

I called a number of movers and I decided on using American Van Lines because were upfront about the extra costs that may be incurred. They had them all listed while other companies did not. Their customer service was really great and the movers were excellent.

My mother recently moved cross country with American Van Lines. We have moved many times and this is the worst company we have ever used. The pick up and delivery dates were not correct. It was a third party that delivered the furniture. They would not accept the cashier check as payment because they were a third party and this is how they told us to pay the remaining balance. We had to call the van lines and pay by credit card before they would unload the truck. I would never recommend this company.

American Van Lines was on time, organized my packing well, and communicated effectively at every step of the relocation. American Van Lines displayed exceptional efficiency and professionalism, particularly given the short notice I provided.

I had to relocate due to a new job while preparing for a wedding. American Van Lines crew was a big relief. They took care of everything, and I didn’t have to worry about anything.

The stairs were not only small but also hard to navigate, however, the employees of American Van Lines did it calmly without trying to rush into something. It did take a while, but it was better than having them rush and scratch my belongings.

The parking situation was a disaster, especially as there were few parking spaces and restrictions. I was expecting major delays. However, American Van Lines handled the parking situation very well, and everything was coordinated very well.

The movers looked at the situation, thought for a while, and then coordinated everything perfectly. It was remarkable to observe my couch navigate through that turn without making contact with the walls. It was a difficult place, but the movers made it look easy and stress-free.
