What is ADT Medical Alert?
The ADT Medical Alert system has two primary components. The first component is a base station that establishes communication with the monitoring center during emergency situations. The second is a waterproof pendant or wristband, which can be submerged up to three feet for up to 30 minutes.
How does ADT Medical Alert work?
In an emergency, you press the built-in button on the pendant or wristband. This action triggers an immediate alert at the monitoring center, initiating communication through the base station.
- Connect to center: ADT’s emergency monitoring center is available 24/7 and offers multilingual support.
- Talk to the operator: You can request help or tell the center it was a false alarm. The monitoring center automatically notifies first responders if you can't communicate verbally.

ADT Medical Alert plans and pricing
ADT’s upfront medical alert system costs are cheaper than some other companies because there are no equipment charges (the base system remains owned by ADT).
However, your monthly cost increases as eligible items are added — for instance, is an extra $11 per month, and it costs an extra $2.99 per month if you want to add an emergency wall button.
- Medical Alert Basic: This package is designed for in-home use and starts at $31.99 per month with a $99 activation fee. It requires a landline and includes home temperature monitoring features. The pendant has a range of up to 300 feet from the base.
- Medical Alert Plus: This package, which doesn’t require a landline, starts at $39.99 per month with a $99 activation fee. It also comes with home temperature monitoring, and fall detection is optional with this package. The pendant has a 600-foot range.

How accurate is ADT’s fall detection?
It’s hard to say. No fall detection system is perfect, so customers who need assistance should always press the emergency button if they can. There is no automatic testing for ADT Medical Alert systems, so the company advises customers to test the fall detection at least once per month.
There are two ways to test your fall detection:
- Press the help button and, once connected to the monitoring center, tell the operator you are testing the system.
- Drop the fall detection pendant from a height of approximately 18 inches. It should take 20 to 30 seconds to interpret the movement and determine if a fall has occurred.
uses close proximity sensors to detect falls and alert the ADT Medical Alert Emergency Response Center. If a user is unconscious, the company's operator will be able to disbatch for help.
Will my home system work if the power goes out?
Yes, all base units come with a built-in backup battery. Medical Alert Plus works up to 24 hours; Medical Alert Basic works up to 20 hours.
Do ADT Medical Alert systems come with a guarantee?
If you drop the unit and it stops working, ADT will replace it for free. However, if you lose or damage the buttons, there is a charge for replacements.
Is there a contract required for ADT Medical Alert?
No, ADT Medical Alert does not require a long-term contract. You can cancel the service at any time and continue using the service through your last billing period.
Do I need a landline for ADT’s Medical Alert system?
You only need a landline if service is not available in your area. However, ADT states that most customers are covered by its AT&T LTE services.

We got our mom the medical alert necklace from ADT and she wears it only when I'm not in the house. Any time I go out for a walk or I have an appointment that doesn't involve her, she gets to wear what we call the crown jewels. It's very lightweight and she doesn't have a problem with it at all. She puts it right on and we know it works because there had been a couple of times where she accidentally dropped it. The people came on the line and were on the machine asking if everything was okay. It's been nothing but a relief for all of us.
The company was also very easy to deal with. I was a little nervous about the whole setup because my sister in New York was the one who did the research and ordered the device. But they were really awesome and they helped us set it up. They also check on us periodically. As the daughter and the one that was going to have to be tethered to the house when she was be really sick, it made my life so much easier and worry-free for that time that I'm gone.

I'm pretty active and healthy and I don't really need ADT. But it gives my children a sense of security and that's the important part. One of the first things I do in the day is to I put my device around my neck and I put the one that has more of a receiver in my purse so that it's in the house all the day while I've got my protection on during the day and I just do whatever I need to do that day. In the evening before I go to bed, I put the part that needs to be recharged back on the charger and take everything off and go to bed.

My now departed mother bought/rented this device for a period of over 12 years after having had a stroke. The main reason she purchased it was her fear of falling/fainting while being alone. Sadly, 2 weeks ago, my dear mother was found on the floor wearing her Safe Alert ADT Medical device, and by that time, she had suffered another stroke and was gone. Her device never detected her fall, nor did it alert anyone. As far as we are concerned, this device has only one purpose: to give a false sense of security. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS DEVICE FOR YOUR LOVED ONES.

I like my ADT Medical Alert. I fell, so my son got me the medical alert, and I’m very satisfied with it. I’ve tested it and it’s very easy to operate, so it makes it quite comfortable to work with. I would recommend it.

I live alone now and ADT Medical Alert makes me feel safer and secure that if something happens, I can get help. The medical alert team was very nice. They did a lot of explaining to me on how to use it, so I appreciated that. I had the one around my neck and I didn't like it because when I move, it’s in my way. They were good about sending me the bracelet and I didn't have to pay for it. And every time I call, they are always pleasant. I know my cousin has it too.

My wife was ambulatory when we got the medical alert. She doesn't use it now because she's in bed 24 hours a day and has a full-time caregiver, so it's just a backup system. But it was effective when she was using it, and ADT has been very prompt about letting us know if the battery is down or if there is a problem with the device. Our daughter had it before, and we had several incidents where she used it, ADT alerted us, and they were immediately on it.

I decided on ADT Medical Alert because I have ADT for my home security. I've been with them for more than 20 years, and in fact, just updated it.
I have eczema, and the one around my neck was just irritating it. I couldn't wear it in my pocket because I might set off the alarm when I sit down, so I called to see if I could get the watch, and I did. The tech who came out here was so wonderful. He walked me through the whole thing and showed me how the system looks.
I can't say enough about ADT because I really do like it. When I wear my watch, I know that it's there for my convenience in getting help right away, especially being a senior. I even take a shower with it, which I didn't know beforehand that I could do. I had called to see if I could get the alert where I could do that, and the gentleman said those two alerts I already have are waterproof, as long as I don't go swimming with them.
Now I feel comfortable because I don't have to worry. If I feel dizzy or not feel well or I fall, all I have to do is push the button. I haven't had any problems with it until recently.
I got an email about a week ago that the system was gonna go down and then come back on, and that my alert would signal me when it's ready. The base is showing the green that it's active, but the watch never beeped to say that it was back online, so I don't know if it's working. I've been meaning to call to see what to do.

ADT Medical Alert’s customer service was wonderful. I have had the device for two years now. I had taken a couple of good falls. Luckily, I had the ADT bracelet on. And I just pressed the button, and it’s good from there.
The device is very convenient. If I were to fall in the middle of a room, I'm able to just hit the thing. I love it.

This was my husband's purchase. I fell on the floor, I pushed the button and nobody answered. I hollered for my husband for exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes. I sat on the floor and peed until he woke up. This was between 2 and 3 this morning. Mike called the paramedics to come and pick me up. I told him this thing is a bunch of crap.

I was outside in my little garden in the yard and I fell. I was able to get myself up and told my oldest granddaughter about it, and she said I need to get a medical alert. In return, her father, my oldest son, and his wife looked into it and they thought that ADT was the best for me. My daughter-in-law has a different brand. When it came, my son turned it on and it has been working ever since. I wear it every day because I’m in the house by myself.
It’s very alert because I can be taking a bath and pull my clothes off and touch it, and right away, ADT gets in touch with me and calls to see if I’m okay. I have not had to use it for an emergency, but whenever it’s been touched or dropped, somebody calls. So that’s a blessing for me. I appreciate my son and my daughter-in-law getting it for me.
The little white part is good for me, but the other part that actually answers the call, I have to put it on because if I fall and it’s inside the house, I couldn’t answer. So, it’s a two-piece device, and it’s kind of heavy for me. It would be better if it could just be one piece. But I still wear it because I could stumble if I go downstairs. The only time I don’t wear it is when I go to bed at night. I put it on the charger.
It gives me security that somebody would be able to see about me until maybe one of my kids could get to me. It’s good for any disabled or elderly person to have.
