Travelers car insurance coverage

Travelers offers a multitude of auto policy options. You can get instant online quotes and read about its insurance offerings on the company’s website. Its coverage options include:

  • Liability
  • Comprehensive
  • Personal injury protection
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist
  • Collision
  • Medical payments

Policyholders can also add on extra coverage, including roadside assistance and new car replacement.

How does Travelers car insurance work?

You can request a free quote on the Travelers website. After entering your vehicle details and desired coverage, you’ll select your preferred deductible limit; lower deductible limits mean you’ll pay fewer out-of-pocket expenses in the case of an accident or repairs, but a higher deductible limit allows for a lower monthly premium. You can also add extra coverage to your policy for more protection — though additional coverage does increase your monthly premium.

Travelers car insurance quotes and costs

Travelers’ deductible limits range from $100 to $1,000. The cost of a Travelers car insurance policy varies based on:

  • Vehicle age, mileage and condition
  • Deductible limit
  • Type(s) of coverage

Travelers offers many discount options, including:

  • Multipolicy
  • Multicar
  • Hybrid/electric vehicle
  • Continuous insurance
  • Homeownership
  • Safe driver
  • Early quote
  • New car
  • EFT, pay in full and good payer
  • IntelliDrive program

It also has discounts for students and drivers in training, and it offers an affinity program for members of participating companies, associations and credit unions.

Travelers car insurance FAQ

Does Travelers offer accident forgiveness?
Yes, Travelers does offer accident forgiveness as an additional coverage option. Its Responsible Driver plan forgives one accident and one minor violation every 36 months, and its Premier Responsible Driver plan includes decreasing deductibles and total loss deductible waivers for an additional fee.
Who owns Travelers Insurance?
Travelers Insurance is owned by The Travelers Companies (previously known as Citigroup).
Does Travelers cover rental cars?
Yes, but rental car coverage is an additional coverage option; if you opt for this coverage, you can request a rental car if your vehicle is out of commission for more than 24 hours.
Does Travelers provide free roadside assistance?
No. The Travelers roadside assistance program is an additional coverage option and is not included in its standard policies.

Is Travelers car insurance good?

Travelers car insurance is a good option for individuals and families looking for auto coverage with multiple discount opportunities and low starting rates. However, because Travelers requires extra fees for add-ons like rental car coverage and roadside assistance, it might not be the best option for those who need an all-inclusive insurance policy.

Travelers is NOT an insurance company I would recommend. We’ve had them for 14 years, and only have filed one claim for a very small fender bender. As a result, they punished us by increasing our monthly rate by an additional $517 per month. The agent could not provide any satisfactory explanations as to why the huge hike per month. This prompted us to look for other insurance companies, and learned that there are much better price options with much better customer reviews.

I have been insured with Travelers on two different vehicles. I have used road service in the past with very good and prompt service. This time was different. I am very unhappy with both their procedure and service. I live in Phoenix Arizona, this is Sunday morning on September 15th around 9am. My dog and purse are locked in my air conditioned vehicle. I am seriously considering dropping my insurance because of this incident. My dog, my purse and my keys were locked in my car. It is around 9am. The air is running. I am in the shade it is still warm at this hour. I was hopeful to get fast and helpful response time on a sunday am. I had only been a few minuets before discovering that the one door left open, had locked up AND the hidden emergency key had apparently dislodged.

It took nearly 30 minuets to get someone live because everything is automated and digital...HOW DOES THIS HELP IN EMERGENCY. I was fearful to hang up and try something that could be quicker. Fortunately I had two other people come by and offer help using their tow service and called in to see if someone would come. When I did get a live person they told me that my policy was cancelled. I begged them to dispatch someone and that I had a card verifying that I was insured. I was told they could do this but I would need to pay the service and then could be reimburse.

Anxious to get someone on route I said that was fine. However, she was demanding payment to dispatch. At that time I was agitated and down right angered, knowing full well I was indeed insured I actually had to state that Travelers would not be very happy if they denied service to an insured client that was stranded with their dog in the vehicle in the hot Arizona sun. Within a few minuets they found my current right standing account and dispatched immediately. It have been more than 30 minuets by this time. I now had a 50 minuet dispatch call. I begged to get it moved up if possible.

In the process the police also were called, but the quickest responder without questions was a lock smith who arrived in 15 minuets and had my dog out in less than 5 minuets. When I knew the lock smith was arriving I tried to call and cancel Travelers. I was again digitally put on hold and then told to call my agent directly. I never received any notifications that a driver was on the way. After I had my dog out of the car, Triple A showed up and then finally Travelers.

In conclusion: I did not get fast service. I actually got the runaround and it was at least an hour and a half before I had Travelers arrived. It is shocking to me that someone< especially the elderly is made to text digital information and go through multiple menus trying to get assistance. When you are stranded it is challenging enough to think clearly. Often the digital system is either not working correctly or is less familiar to someone they may panic in the process of trying to get help. For future road service I am very skeptical that I would receive the needed help from Travelers.

Travelers Insurance is the worst! I accidentally tapped a large Chevy Silverado 2021 truck's rear right bumper with my compact Volkswagen Tiguan while backing up a narrow driveway during a snowfall. The truck was partially parked, blocking the driveway exit, and there was nobody in it. My car didn't even get a scratch on it and or no damage. Unfortunately, a supposed family member filed a claim against me five days later and ended up getting a whole new bumper, tow hitch, and paint job. The truck never even had a tow hitch before I tapped it. It took the insurance company eight full days just to inspect the truck. Initially, they told us the damage was very minor and that it was the smallest claim ever. Nonetheless, it took from March 25th until May 10th, 2024 (when the claim finally closed). It took from April 29 until May 10 for the owner to get their truck back.

I was then informed that the claim was over $1700, and the truck had been in the shop for two whole weeks! I was not provided with an itemized bill of the charges from the insurance, and the body shop refused to help me. I was advised to contact a lawyer to obtain the necessary information for an itemized bill. The representative, Pedro **, offered the worst customer service I have ever experienced with car insurance. He did not respond to my inquiries for many days and seemed not to care. I do not recommend this insurance at all. I canceled my policy and am returning to Progressive. I do not care if travelers was cheaper. It is not worth it!

One reason that I will not renew with Travelers Insurance - "Leanna P. **". She was unprofessional, rude, noncommunicative, dishonest, authoritative and attempted to withhold care on all fronts, even though the insurance of the responsible party was willing to, and did pay. Now that the claim has been settled, I am signing with the competitor insurance (the insurance of the person at fault in this MVA). They were much more professional and did NOT block my ability to obtain necessary (not unnecessary or superfluous) care.

Just one example of the atrocious demeanor of Leanna: I had just seen a doctor as a result of the rear end accident. Leanna called and yelled at me, accusing me of “insurance fraud” in attempting to obtain care that was unnecessary and told me that PRIOR to ANY doctor visit, or for ANYTHING related to the MVA, that I must submit and be approved to see any care provider. She also informed me that she is the sole authority in my obtaining care for the accident.

NOTE: I was the victim of a simple rear end accident. I was not seriously hurt but was minimally hurt. I was not looking to sue. I was honest about these things with Leanna. I only wanted some basic care. I was NOT the person responsible, in fact the person at fault was cited as being 100% at fault. So Travelers was not responsible for any bills. But Leanna had to the nucleus of dictatorship. She is a loud-speaking, harsh, controlling person; one that should not be dealing with those who have been involved in accidents. We have enough stress and pain to deal with. We don’t need someone like her to make things absolutely unbearable. Every call with her was this way, so I stopped responding to her assaults and dealt with the “at fault” insurance.

The claims are pathetic. They will not cover all the car damage cost and deductible is just for name sake. I had a vandalism claim, for which they only covered a part and asked me to submit another claim for other parts. This only increase deductible for each claim, which is generally around $500. Also, nobody there will answer the call and nobody will response on the email as well. This is my first time and I will move away soon. Claim Number: **

I know that they have to look out for their shareholders first and then their workers. Also, it's a business that needs to make money. There have been several claims recently, lawsuits, etc. according to reports. On the other hand, it seems that when these big companies cough, the small guys get sick. I received an initial quote over the telephone after 5 minutes trying to find a contact number online while talking to a machine (AI). Every time I called back to make a small change/purchase, the price it changed. It looks like each agent wants to create a new one. I was even told why my rates went up in 24–48 hours; when I asked, even though I have an excellent driving and credit records.

Whatever else, they used to screw you over was on display even when there are no issues for a reasonable price. The agent told me that I had a claim three years ago. I had to have the car towed to the shop to get it fixed because I couldn't drive it from my house from an earlier repair. No lapse in insurance (checked). No moving violations (checked). No claims filed (checked). I guess you must be the only who reaps the benefits of these companies. You are naughty if you file.

I have been with another company for over 25 years, and only looking around. I'll move on, and stay put, but check your policy because that is going up fast, extremely high. Plus, they will look for any reason to drop you, and or increase your premium. Your experience maybe different, but this is mine! Thank you for reading.

Travelers increased my premiums to over $2,000 for 6 months. Slowly over 5 years they did this. I changed to Progressive on 4/7/23 for the same coverage but $600 for 6 months. Then Travelers took the premium out of my bank account, even though I canceled in person. I know I will be refunded the $200 Travelers stole, but DAMN they are ruthless. Travelers will steal your money then make you fight to get it back. DO NOT CONTRACT WITH TRAVELERS INSURANCE.

Updated on 02/27/2023: It's been 52 days (1/5/23) and I still don't have my car back. Parts on national backorder. There needs to be another option other than just wait. Perhaps a buy-out option is needed or the insurance/collision shop should of been honest upfront. I would be in a better place if I was given the check and just sold my wrecked car as-is.

Updated on 02/09/2023: Wrote a negative review and they will not comment. My car has been in shop for 5 weeks, waiting for parts. No other options than just to wait. This is not right. There needs to be a better option.

Original Review: My vehicle has been in a collision shop since 1/5/2023. There are 4 Honda parts on national backorder and no ETA has been provided. If my car can not be fixed because the parts are not available, then there needs to be a buy-out option. I didn't have rental coverage on my policy due to an oversight when we sold our extra car 2 yrs ago. My rental coverage would of expired by now anyways. My claim was filed on 12/23/2022 and it took 2 weeks for an adjuster to look at my car to start the process. Thank you, Bill.

Pay over 1K/mo for multiple drivers on half dozen vehicles. Recently had a vehicle totaled, other drivers fault 100%. Almost been a month with no resolution. Terrible communication from adjuster, to appraiser, to total loss adjuster, to supervisors of supervisors. Bottom line, THEY DON’T CARE! Zero customer care or concern about you, your totaled car or the actual value. All insurance companies are lacking for one reason or another, and I understand it’s a dirty business, but Travelers, in my over 40 years of paying and using insurance is the absolute worse. Hands down, not even close. BUYER BEWARE! LOOK ELSEWHERE and save yourself from the trouble I’VE experienced.
