Progressive home insurance coverage

To begin, you can get a free online home insurance quote from Progressive’s website. You can customize the quote to meet your coverage needs and take advantage of any available discounts. You can also use Progressive’s HomeQuote Explorer tool to compare home insurance rates and coverage options from a variety of providers. It’s important to note that homeowners insurance policies from Progressive do not cover damages due to:

  • Mold and mildew

You can also call a Progressive representative for more details.

Progressive’s home insurance quotes can range from $675 to $2,045 annually depending on your location and the level of coverage you need, and its deductibles cost from $500 to $5,000. If you want lower monthly fees, you can select a higher deductible limit — but this will mean you’re responsible for covering the deductible amount before your insurance kicks in.

Progressive also offers savings of up to 12% on car insurance when you bundle it with a home insurance plan. Its other money-saving opportunities include:

  • Home security discounts
  • Advance quotes (10 days before policy starts)
  • New home purchases

You can work with a Progressive agent to identify discounts available to you.

UPDATED ON 02/24/2026: Since I can’t update my original review I am giving an update of our experience with Progressive. We have been fighting with them for 10 months due to hail and wind damage. After 10 months we finally got the call that our roof was being bought yesterday. I actually changed my first review to a 3 star because we finally received an answer. Then last night at 8 pm my husband gets a call saying they are only paying for a portion of the roof. How they came to that decision I don’t know. They said they would send the paperwork. I’m not sure how you cover a damaged roof only partially.

I am urging everyone who has ever dealt with Progressive to spread the word that they don’t pay claims and have terrible adjusters, terrible customer service and basically just a horrible company. I will be continuing to make reviews on other sites and will be contacting the president of the company regarding this. I hope everyone stays away from them.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Our house was sideswiped by two tornadoes last summer the first in March 2025 in which we noticed shingles in our yard. Due to extreme wind and hail we had it looked at. We were told it had severe damage. A progressive adjuster also came and looked at it and told us you will be getting a new roof. We had another tornado that went west of us that bent trees in our backyard to the ground. So more damage to our roof. Now we have been dealing with Progressive for almost 10 months with being told the stress videos are either too long or too short or not the right angle. Everyone on our street has now been approved for a new roof and we sit and argue with Progressive. We have had adjuster on our neighbors houses say our roof is destroyed. Our roofing company says we have significantly more damage. On top of this our adjuster and his supervisor do not return calls to us or roofing company and now our agent.

Progressive is quite possibly the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with and am so sorry I ever heard of them. Please everyone avoid them at all costs. They do not pay on claims and after seeing BBB reviews on them it seems everyone who uses them is going through the same thing. This is a company that should not be in business. I am currently working in complaints to the Attorney General, our senator, the Department of Insurance and the Department of Commerce and Insurance and hoping someone can help.

On 1/14/26 I purchased home/auto bundle from Progressive for $1,989.00 for home in which I paid in full and $445.00 for 6 months for auto. On 1/15/2026 I contacted Progressive concerning my mortgage holders were not on the homeowner's policy, the agent corrected the policy. On 1/16/2026 I receive an email bill for $8.00. On 1/17/2026 I contacted customer service asking what the charge was for, the agent said they did not know what it was for and would have to contact their supervisor to remove bill and would call me back.

I waited all day for a return call, so at 4:pm I called back and was told the charge was for adding my lien holders and I owed them $8.00, I promptly canceled both polices and requested full refunds for both. I was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to refund homeowner insurance by check. I told them the police was paid in full by credit card not a check. The agent became rude and would not listen to me. Glad I canceled because if there is this much trouble over $8.00, I can imagine what a claim would be like. Bottom Line this company is a scam. they may give you a good price but by the time they nickel and dime you over and over along with poor customer service on top of it the insurance is not so cheap. Luckily my former insurance was still in effect which is Allstate and I just renewed my old polices before they expired. This company may look good on paper but in reality, it is all a scam for your money. I will never use or recommend this company to anyone.

TERRIBLE! Home insurance through HOMESITE (thru Progressive) has a VERY BAD billing department and/or customer service. We got jerked around on our autopay. Didn't take out monthly for several months, and now, 3 weeks before Christmas, they want paid in full or go to collections! They admit the error, but too bad for us. Autopay means you take it out every month! You didn't, we didn't know, and now threatening collections! HORRIBLE!

Switched to Progressive 11/1 for both auto and homeowners. Evan tho homeowners was higher than previous lower auto offset difference substantially. Within 8 days received notice that their home inspector had visited site and listed items that most of us consider cosmetic; paint peeling on soffit and fascia, area on side of house with algae, missing short piece of siding from where I ran out, small branches touching garage (not so). Since I had installed brown aluminum trim on the rest of the house I emailed back to underwriters that availability was a problem let alone holiday, upcoming below freezing weather and certainly no contractors with in their 30 day time frame. Was able to find a distributor that could provide me the J channel & soffit in brown vinyl and fascia in brown aluminum. I bought it and sent underwriters a copy of purchase order asking for an extension. Result (No Reply).

Next thing I know I get an email telling me that because I got the multi policy discount I needed to provide them a copy or policy number. Things got worse when I initiated a phone call to them. Auto policy says that homeowners was disconnected from auto for whatever reason even tho they were purchased at exact same time and initial phone message says that they are both shown active. She transfers me to homeowners, the male who answered refused to give me his name and hung up. I called back to homeowners side and talked to Robert, bottom line he says they are in fact showing auto connected to them but I should talk to auto. Transferred to auto claims; no correct selection option for my situation. She (Kelia?) says that I should talk to policy services but bottom line to disregard the email.

So, less than a month as a new member and already frustrated as it seems like left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing. Most frustrating unable to talk to a higher up to complain about a so called professionals' rudeness. Seems like Homeowner insurance side of their business has meaningless employee supervision. As much as they spend on advertising (and paying flo) you would think that they would have higher standards for their employees in order to retain customers. Will seem what happens if they reach out to me or not.

I have been swindled by Progressive Insurance company in the following ways: a) almost doubled my rate from $350 to $520 and my deductible from $7800 to$12,500 without my consent or knowledge, b) when I found out, via an accident on their part, they sent out a letter to say they have been overcharging me for years and will refund the money. This was 6 weeks ago and I cannot contact them now. I am a 76 year old, totally disabled vet due to combat. My doctor says I have the best military record she's ever seen. Please help me with these quick buck artists.

My recommendation, at least in the state of Illinois is to stay away from Progressive insurance. I have bundled my home and auto insurance with Progressive based on price and price alone. Big mistake. While I have not had to use their auto insurance, I tried making a claim for my hope due to storm damage. First of all, NOBODY at Progressive will even listen to my issues or look into them even though they take my check every month. Progressive farms off the home portion of the insurance to fly by night companies that do not back their product nor care about the customer.

I am to blame for not reading the fine print. That is on me. This fly by night company sponsored by Progressive makes up deductible rules on their own. It's probably in the fine print, but I thought I was being insured by a well known company that stands by their product. I thought my deductible was $1500, turns out to be $3500. I thought they would cover storm damage; they do not cover hail damage to the roof or siding. Depending on the damage, they do not care if the new shingles match the old. If the shingles are older than 10 years old, they do not cover wind damage.

To top it all off, when I scheduled an adjuster to come out; BEFORE LOOKING AT MY ROOF, she basically told me it won't be covered. HOW? She finally came out and worked with my contractor and said there wasn't any hail in this area at the time they are claiming. There were 3 hailstorms in 2 weeks around that time. She said she would get my written proposal in 2 days. (which in my opinion is too long) But it took her 2.5 WEEKS to respond to me. Progressive uses fly by night companies to write homeowners insurance. STAY AWAY from Progressive. BBB should really look into their business practices. I guess someone needs to pay for their commercials. Going back to State Farm. Pay more, get better service.

Class Action Lawsuit. Only a matter of time. Progressive Homesite quoted me one price. Sent someone out to inspect property. Email stated they’d reach out if they needed to alert me of any changes. I monitored my email closely until policy effective date to ensure everything was still on track to start. I agreed to price and signed contract, cancelled my existing insurance policy at the time due to signed policy with progressive. After I’ve already cancelled my cheaper policy, progressive all of a sudden decides I need a new roof. They had PLENTY of time prior to policy effective date to notify me of this and give me the opportunity to cancel their policy and keep the policy I had. They didn’t. This was 100% intentional. They glorified pyramid scheme.

Your policy is imaginary. When it comes down to coverage they’ll find a way to find something “wrong with your home” so they have an excuse to cancel coverage and still collect even though you divulged all home information prior. If you’re thinking of getting progressive, run for the hills. You’re better off starting your own insurance company over progressive. If your options are progressive and anything else, pick the “anything else”. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

ZERO STARS! Over 10 years customer and never ever claimed. First time ever after 10 years and who knows what your endorsement policy says because that’s the underwriter job which no customers can see their endorsements on their policy. Be aware when you shop insurance companies. I am terminating my policies with Progressive from the lies and broken promises. When you are told you fully covered for everything and only see a summary of your coverages. We are all fooled! There is more black and white! My siding got winded. I claimed and was only able to get repair! What a joke. I need replacement not repair! Progressive says maybe get the full endorsement policy in the future… Why if I’m claiming NOW! Cancel your policies and look for a better trusting company!

Progressive home insurance is garbage, I've been with them for over 17 years and never filed a claim. We had a bad hurricane come through Florida and damaged the roof, filed a claim and they told me the whole roof had to be redone because the shingles were over 15 years and it's not fixable. They came back with a lowball offer and told me it was fixable after 3 companies said it wasn't including their own claims representative.

I DO NOT recommend Progressive Homeowners Insurance!! I had them for 10 years and filed a claim because of water damage and they denied it and dropped my insurance. Here is what happened! I was painting in my bedroom when I stepped down off a ladder and notice my floor was soft next to the wall. I called my insurance, and the guy told me he would get a mitigation company to come out and for me to get the plumber. I said OK but do you think you need to get an adjuster out first. He told me, "No I will do it behind the desk". I said OK, thinking they were gonna cover the claim. The mitigation company came out and stayed all week with fans in my house. I have a crawl space floor.

When my plumber comes out, he found a leak in my shower which led to the floor being wet. When he sent his report in, he put on there about there being a leak that caused "rot" and I couldn't see it because it was behind the wall. When the insurance guy got it, that as what he was waiting on was to see that word "ROT" so he called me and said denied! And they wouldn't pay the mitigation company either. I ended up having to get the Insurance commissioner to make them pay for the mitigation company and then they drop my insurance!!! A BAD COMPANY!!! Stay away from this company!
