Every board is curling and bellying with water accumulation in the middle that molds. It is getting worse as the year is going on. The deck is not even 2 years old and can't seem to get any help from Trex.

**UPDATE** Previously wrote a 1 star review in June 2026 on my Trex deck purchased 20+ years ago indicating poor quality boards. Intended to just warn of what the product was like after all the years. Unexpectedly, customer service (Brandi) reached out to me and guided me through a claim process. I was then contacted by a Claims rep (Mike). I just received a voucher to replace all the boards. I must say I was impressed with Brandi and Mike and Trex in making it whole as I really never expected for Trex representatives to read reviews. This is the first company that has ever reached out to me especially after 20+ years. Kudos Trex. I have been telling everyone I can about Trex and their customer service. Truly impressed.

I would give it less than a 1 star review if I could. Every board that was installed less than a year ago is cupped. Water stands on every board after a rain storm. Between the company, the seller, and the instraller, they finally agreed to replace the decking. Installers showed up today and all of the new boards that had been delivered were also cupped. The constant refrain is that "it's normal; within tolerance; etc." Do not ever use this junk if you are in an area that gets any ice because you will not be able to remove the ice. And if you get rain, you can either wait until it evaporates or you can take out a leaf blower and blow it off. Worst home improvement product ever made.

Warning! This product is not worth the extra cost. We have the Trex saddle from Lowe’s. After researching our options between wood and composite we decided to spend the extra money to assure longevity and quality. We built COVERED backyard and front porch decks 3 year’s ago. The contractor did a good job with the build but the trex product is the issue. We cannot get it to look clean. It looks good wet but when dry it looks dirty and dingy. The FIRST time I cleaned it with a deck cleaner that was recommended by Lowe’s where purchased. It didn’t work.

I called Trex customer service and was told it wasn’t covered under warranty because I used the wrong deck cleaner. I then reached back out to Lowe’s and spoke with the trex representative for their store and he suggested using dawn dish soap power spray because it was hard water stains. It didn’t work. I also have tried rain water, it didn’t work. This product is very expensive and impossible to clean. We saved, WORKED, and waited 40 years for our first home (not rented). We tried to do it right to have for our future families use. I have never wrote a review before but don’t want anyone else making this costly mistake. My husband is a mechanic and I am a teacher and we work hard for our living and as proud Americans we just want a company to stand behind their products and give solutions that work.

This Trex deck gets so hot in the sun that everyone burns their feet on it!! Absolutely horrible! Total junk! Garbage. Don’t use it. Who cares if it looks good. You can’t walk on it! The dogs avoid it too. Unbelievable that they sell this crap! Should be outlawed.

Customer service outstanding! Unexpectedly received a response from Trex customer service rep (Brandi) and she guided me through a warranty claim. I received a voucher replacing all boards (76). Truly a reputable company and warranty. Thank you for your prompt action.

Installed a deck with Trex about 20-23 years ago. Metal material and plastic wire coming out of deck everywhere. Noticed about 5 years ago. But now that I'm selling house I am showing how poorly Trex decking is years later and recommending not using Trex as a replacement. Added one photo as limited to 5MB and there are so many pieces of metal and wire video and more photo images exceed upload.

I purchased Trex decking 3 years ago and the top deck boards are great. No fading or wear and have remained flat. However the facia boards are NOT GOOD, they are warping at the edges and pulling the screws right out of the wood below. I can’t even tighten them down because it stripped the wood so the screws can’t bite into the wood. I am sending pictures to show how awful it looks. I would not recommend this product because of the problems with the vertical facia boards!

Our issue is with the Trex Signature Charcoal black railings. Trex states best railings for coastal regions to withstand the salt breezes. We live in SE Michigan and they now are a gray color, only charcoal black when wet. They state it's the lighting, how the sun shines on it and any excuse to not honor the warranty. Even more upsetting is we paid $500 for the gate. We filed warranty on the hinges and the latch. Nowhere in our paperwork it says they don't warranty those because they are not from Trex to contact the Co who makes them. Again we don't warranty them, just weathered. Most people just paint them. $500 for this garbage. Trex warranty service also never sent anyone out to look at the actual railings. They wanted pictures. You can see the color difference wet to dry black to gray. Totally disgusted at the entire warranty claim process and lack of accountability and the garbage you would never know Trex purchases added to railings.

Avoid Trex. A board on my deck developed a significant crack in under a year. This is a product sold for outdoor use—if it cannot handle ordinary weather exposure (sun, temperature swings, moisture), then it is not fit for its intended purpose. The response to my claim was to blame an unspecified “external element,” with zero detail or evidence. That is not an explanation—it’s a deflection. For an exterior decking product, calling normal environmental conditions “external damage” is unreasonable and raises serious questions about how the company stands behind its materials.

The design makes a bad situation worse. The hidden fastener/bracket system means you cannot replace a single board in isolation. If the damaged board is not at the edge (mine isn’t), you’re forced to remove multiple boards—or dismantle a large section of the deck—just to reach it. That turns a straightforward repair into a costly, labor-intensive teardown. A decking system that requires partial reconstruction to fix one board is a flawed system. There is also a troubling history here. A prior legal action involving Trex products manufactured between 2002 and 2007 included allegations of “surface flaking” (crumbling, delamination, peeling). The company denied liability and settled. The failure I’m seeing now—premature surface breakdown—looks uncomfortably similar.

Bottom line: Board failed in under a year under normal outdoor conditions. Claim response was vague, unsupported, and dismissive. Repair requires removing large sections of the deck due to the fastening system. Similar surface-related issues have been raised in the past. This has been an expensive mistake. If a single defective board can force you to tear apart your deck—and the company won’t stand behind the product—buyers should think twice before choosing this system.
