We almost settled for a cheaper version of the pellet grill and are so glad we did not. We grill almost every night. The food taste out of this world and the grill makes it so easy with the controls. We love our grill and would buy it all over again!!!

On the 4th cook, the unit could no longer control its temperature. It showed the goal temp was 250F but the actual temp it showed was 368F and dropping. When it got to 300F, it turned around and went back up. Customer service? There is none. No way to email and no answer on the phone during their listed business hours. Really $1200 for a smoker that works for only 3 cooks is a bit much. Didn't even finish up one bag of pellets before the thing became a (nice looking) boat anchor. I guess it's going back to ACE.

We absolutely LOVE our Traeger! I got it for my husband on his birthday four years ago. It is extremely versatile, allowing us to perform just about any cooking technique you can think of! Smoking, searing, BBQing, shish kabobs, desserts, veggies, you name it! Having the added flavor of smoking makes meat taste absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys BBQing or enjoying very flavorful food!

For years, we had used propane grills and I had so many problems from flare-ups to running out of propane, and faulty starters. After watching an infomercial for Traeger Grills, I ordered one and couldn't be happier with it! Simple to operate, just plug in and turn a switch. No more flare-ups, the food tastes great and cleaning it out isn't a terrible job. My only downside is running out of pellets midway through grilling, but that's my own fault.

The portable Traeger Scout grill is a great idea that fails in execution. Temperature control is so important in grilling and Traeger has not solved that puzzle. The other issue with Traeger as a whole is the documentation conflicts with corporate support advice. The other issue is that it is, in one important instance, misleading. Pellets are fed into the grill on a timed basis, not on the basis of temperature. This is a fundamental flaw of the controller and not unique to Traeger. Only PID controllers actually deliver pellets based upon temperature.

I would give them negative stars if I could. If you have nothing better to do than follow incorrect advice and be treated as if your time has no value, then by all means, do business with this company. They will polite you to death while they give you information that they know is incorrect and a complete waste of your time. When, after many calls and many hours of working to solve connectivity problems, one of their reps finally admitted to me that they had been having a problem with their firmware for weeks and were now pushing a new update that should solve the issues I told them that I had completely had it with their dishonesty and would be returning the product. Why couldn't they have admitted to me two weeks ago that they were working to resolve a software issue? Why did they make me waste hours and hours implementing fixes that they knew were nothing but busy work? Unbelievable!

I was so excited to get a Traeger, TFB30LZB, Grill for Christmas last year, (2019) albeit one of the least expensive ones. In less than 5 months of owning it I started experiencing problems with it maintaining the set temperature. It was constantly fluctuating by +/- 30/40 degrees. I called customer service and had to leave my phone number in which they called me back several hours later and informed me it was normal and due to ambient temperatures & wind.

Next my Traeger started to smoke terribly, and I noticed there was a fire coming from my pellet pit, BTW, it ruined all $110 of my meats, I researched the problem and found that there were many postings with people experiencing this issue with Traeger, but some said by cleaning the grill really good it helps, so I did. It fixed it temporarily. But the problem happened four more times in the last two months. Each time all of the meats on the grill had a terrible smoke taste afterwards (ruined) and I cleaned the grill again, having to throw away the Traeger pellets (not cheap) in the chute. The last time it caught on fire, it was different.

A few days ago, Memorial Day 2020, I was cooking some really beautiful steaks and venison burgers. I put Traeger pellets in the chute, turned on my (Very Clean) Traeger and turned it to the Smoke setting for about 15 minutes with the lid open. After it finished the smoke process, I turned the setting to 250 degrees and shut the lid. I let it pre-heat to 250 and then put the steaks & burgers on the Traeger and shut the lid. After about 30 minutes I noticed the temperature starting to drop little by little. I initially thought it was the normal fluctuation due to ambient temperature and wind, per Traeger customer service, so I wasn’t overly concerned.

About 15 minutes later I noticed the temperature had dropped to 187, then 185, then 183, ... so I went in the house and got a plate and spatula and my Son. When we got back outside my Son was behind me holding the plate as I was trying to save the meats and I was taking the meats off the Traeger and putting them on the plate. At that time a huge fireball erupted around the porcelain grill, I am really glad my Son wasn’t standing there when it happened. I unplugged the Traeger as it continued to burn the pellets in the burner box and moved my Son and myself away from the Traeger. After the fire burned out I cleaned the Traeger and put the cover on it and put it away until it’s fixed.

I contacted Traeger the next day and of course got the “we will call you back” message in which they did several hours later and spoke with a representative for over two hours attempting to get my Traeger repaired. Traeger informed me that there wasn’t anyone in a close proximity to repair my Traeger but he said he would send me the heating element (Hot Rod) part and I could replace it myself. I am not a mechanic nor am I certified, or qualified, to do repairs on Traeger equipment, so I asked to speak with a Supervisor. After being on hold for 20 minutes he came back and said that the supervisor was on another line but that he would be a go between me and the supervisor, the supervisor wouldn’t speak with me. I asked if I couldn’t just get a replacement Traeger of the same kind and was told no.

After another 40 Minutes I was told that they found a Traeger dealer, ACE Hardware, that would repair my Traeger and gave me the number and asked to call them the next day, in which I did (Total time on the phone-128 Minutes). ACE informed me that they had not heard from Traeger for the repair request and that they were not certified/qualified to do Traeger repairs either! So again I contacted Traeger and spoke with another representative, in which I was abruptly told they would have to send me the part to replace myself, so I asked to speak with a Supervisor.

After 30 minutes a supervisor came on the line. The Supervisor told me there is no one in my area to do repairs and the closest place to me was 1.5 hours from my house. He contacted them and they declined to come do the repairs. He told me that the problem was not the heating element as I had been told the day before, but it was the control panel but that he would send me the part to repair it. Again I told him I am not a mechanic nor am I certified, or qualified, to do repairs on Traeger equipment and that I was concerned about not fixing it correctly, so I requested a replacement Traeger since it was less than 6 months since I received it. He politely told me no and that Traeger warranties were for parts only, not labor. He did offer to send me the entire Hopper/Burner assembly which he said is easy to replace. I reluctantly agreed but could see Traeger was not going to repair or replace my grill.

In the time (over 3 hours) I was on the phone with Traeger Customer Service, I was told my Traeger is equipped with WiFi, which I had to inform them it wasn’t. I was told they would send someone to repair it and was told they won’t. I was told my problem was the Hot Rod, the Control Panel, and that I didn’t remove the orange sleeve from the Hot Rod (I did), and that the problem was that the pellets can’t get below 2/3 full. Each time I told them what the other person told me and I was informed that they were right, the others were wrong, and they guarantee they were correct as to what the problem is. Ultimately I have a Traeger that I am afraid to use, Traeger will not replace it, won’t send anyone to repair, even though it’s still under warranty. I tried looking for a number to corporate with no success. Good Luck to anyone buying Traeger products.

I bought a Traeger Scout grill last October. It never kept a consistent temperature from the time it was new. On May 22, the grill failed, it would no longer ignite the pellets. I called the "customer service" number and got a recording that said the wait time was up to two hours. I followed the prompts to leave my number and get a call back, and to this date, May 27, I have not received a call. I emailed them five times and only get an automated response, no response from anyone. They advertise a three year warranty, which is complete false advertising. My advise is to stay away from Traeger products and look into a company that stands by their products. Traeger customer service is non-existent and their products do not deserve the hype they are given.

I bought a Traeger Grill for my husband, in the beginning of April, from Home Depot. We were so excited. We used it for 3 days and the hot rod went out! So we couldn't even use it. We called 5 times...twice we stayed on hold for over 2 hours for 2 of those calls. The other 3 calls we asked for a call back. It is now mid May and we are still waiting for a return call!! We were told that we could not return the grill because we didn't buy it directly from them..and Home Depot says "call Traeger". We are so upset and feel like we bought a copper trash can. Their customer service stinks and the product is even worse. Steer clear of these grills unless you want to become fully vested in learning how to take one apart and put it back together....multiple times! By the way, they did say they would send us a replacement part...and that took almost 3 weeks to get.

My family ordered 3 of these grills as gifts and one came broken during shipping. One of the hinges had snapped and bent the hood door. We were on hold for hours with Traeger and were told that the replacement parts were going to be sent out in 7 to 10 days and that we would receive a confirmation email after our call. When an email didn't come, we called back a few days later (again with a long wait) and were told that an email would be sent in 7-10 days once the parts shipped. After waiting 10 days, we called to check on the status and were told we would have to wait another month to get the parts. I have not even tested the product but can say that customer service is awful. I should have just returned the product.

I purchased this grill less than a month ago. It has stopped on me 3 times, fire went out where I had to remove the food, Today it just doesn't work. Then you have to remove grill, drip tray and cover for the heating element and vacuum all the pellets out. Using an old fashioned charcoal grill would be less of a hassle. Finally got a hold of Traeger, They called back after 3 hours on a call back and when I called other times in the past 3 weeks, you are on hold 2 or 3 hours, or if you leave a call back number, sometimes they don't call back. My grill had trouble getting up to temperature and couldnt get much over 350. Wasted a lot of time and pellets troubleshooting over the phone and they kept telling me nothing is wrong. I made a complaint with the BBB and they decided to send me a few parts. First a fan then a temp probe. Didnt fix it. Just wasted more of my time and pellets trying to make it work. Finally sent me the hopper controller assembly. That helped getting up to temp but if you want to smoke anything more than an hour you cant now because it stops feeding pellets for some reason. Getting more runaround. They want picks of my pellets and grill assembly. It gets up to temp and stays for about an hour and stops. Waste of money!!!

Traeger markets all of their pellet fired grills as a "smoker grill". However in reality it's not a smoker grill or even a grill. It smokes only during startup, after it ignites and gets to temperature the pellets get completely combusted like a blast furnace resulting in very little smoke, not near enough to properly smoke meats at any temperature. Read other customer reviews, they all state the same problem. Traeger has carefully tailored their marketing message to down play this serious deficiency. It also fails as a grill because it only reaches 450°f and applies indirect heat to the food because the drip tray is between heat source and grill surface. My kitchen convection oven operates on exactly the same principle. Mechanically the grill is designed and manufactured very robustly with high quality, assembly was a breeze. Temperature control is very good, as good as my kitchen convection oven.

Traeger placed the temperature sensor in such a way to maximize the indicated temperature, however in reality the temperature near grill surface is much lower. The WireFire control works if you are able to properly provision it. I spent two days trying to get it connected to my phone. Technical support has been very iffy at best. Overall this product has been one of my worse purchase decisions. Traeger Pellet Grills should be considered "A jack of all trades but a master of none".

Within months of purchasing the grill, the temperature would get close to, or the initial temperature setting but then after 30 minutes, it would drop at least 150-250 degree. It would stay at this low temperature, rise a little bit and then drop again, or turn itself off. Called customer service multiple times; each time had a different person and had to go through the same story and process, even though they had records and could connect to the grill via WiFi. Ultimately, they sent a new induction fan which I installed though it didn’t solve the problem. Also had multiple email conversations with promises they’ll look into a solution and get back to me, though they never did. They have now stopped replying to my emails. Please do yourself a favor and never buy a grill from Traeger. And a class action law suit is what’s needed to bring this company around.

Many friends recommended Traeger grills so I purchased with high expectations and believe eventually grill will work but my first grilling experience was terrible. Apparently auger loaded excess pellets, grill flamed up and smoke from grill gave a terrible taste to the honey ham we were grilling. We ended up throwing away a large ham that was completely ruined by the grill. Tried to get technical help but it took over two hours to get a response and then response was not that helpful. I had downloaded a cooking sequence directly from phone for my first cooking outing. Would not recommend that for first time users. Would recommend a simple manual cooking for first or second cooking outing and then go with more automated features.

I've been grilling and smoking food for many years on gas, charcoal and pellets as not one is the best fit for the results I want do to flavor or time at hand. I've owed a Lil Tex for over 15 years and performed great when I wanted to cook while doing other things and was dependable. For Father's Day my family decided to upgrade me to the Timberline 850. My 6 months of experience has not been good as you should expect paying 1700 and is their best model. I use my pellet grill 2 times a week all year long and keep them undercover. I do like features like it being insulated and has a gasket, meat probe, three heavy racks and electronic features for wifi info which can be wonky. The grill takes way long to heat up like over a half hour to get to 165 and I clean the firepot like you should. At 400 degrees with a clean grill will catch the chicken on fire from the edge of drip pan every time. The gasket is coming off now from the back.

Customer service knows of issues and slowly gets back after describing in detail my problems. I tried calling at first but waiting forever and to get someone with no knowledge of product wasn't gonna happen but now they want me to call. I really feel they designed a grill to compete with the 30 or so other manufacturers and they tripped up and their service technicians don't get it. It's sad when you think you know more than they do. When they eventually send what I need to correct the problems which has been dragging on for months, what do people do to install and fix the grill that are less handy as I am. The 575 Pro we got our son is doing fine. I would return and get that if I could. The folks at Weber Grills got it together. Traeger needs the right people in service to take calls and be trained on the product and be faster on resolve.. Thanks for reading.

My family bought me this grill for Father's Day and it started off great - the food tasted great and the wifi connectivity really makes the whole thing simple. But then it started acting-up - random temperature errors and shutting down mid-cook, ruining a few meals before I gave up - this was after 3 months of ownership. I have been chasing Traeger Grill support for 2.5 months trying to get them to help (no luck). I have tried all the troubleshooting steps with no success. I believe I have found the issue - a small temp probe that is probably a $20 part - but cannot find it to order online so I asked Traeger to send me one - that was 2 months ago and it still has not arrived.

We spent $600+ on this grill and it has been nothing more than a statue in our garden - we planned Thanksgiving and Christmas meals with wood-fired meats, but those went out the window. In summary - the product breaks easily, and Traeger customer service has absolutely zero responsiveness. If you get any response at all it's a miracle, never mind a useful interaction.

The issue - Uncontrollably high heat and no temperature regulation on Traeger Scout. The cause - The RTD sensor does not regulate the temperature. Now my story of the worst product design and customer service experience I've ever experienced.... On October 4, 2019 I purchased a Traeger Scout. Apparently, I was fortunate to find one since they are on perpetual back-order. I followed all break-in instructions and quickly discovered the unit would not regulate temperature. No matter what setting it was on, the unit temperature would increase up to 550 degrees and then the High Temperature safety alarm would shut the unit down. I tried unsuccessfully a couple of times to cook on the unit but the result was the same each time.

A few days later I called Traeger to report the issue. Their technician's diagnosis was the digital controller was bad. They said the controller was on back order until the end of November. Their customer service made a ticket and said a new controller would be mailed to me as soon as they came in. I accepted the bad news but requested to speak to a supervisor to lodge my dissatisfaction for having to wait nearly 2 months for the part. The representative told me that no supervisor was available to speak to me and that he would have a supervisor call me back. I never received a call back from a supervisor or anyone from Traeger.

On December 4, 2019, I called Traeger to check the status of my order. As caller 79 I was placed in a never ending queue. After nearly 2 hours on hold, I gave up and provided my telephone number as a call back. Later that same day, a Traeger customer service rep called me back. After explaining my issue (again) the rep found my trouble ticket. Unfortunately, Traeger had taken no action on my ticket (despite having the part in stock in Georgia) and furthermore they had no explanation as to why they had not shipped the replacement digital controller nor why I never received a call back from a supervisor. The rep indicated he would have the part shipped from Georgia on December 11, 2019.

A few days past December 11, 2019, I received the controller. I removed the old one and installed the new one leaving the original RTD because I could find no way to remove the original RTD without destroying the unit. The RTD on the Scout and Ranger models are installed in a very different manner than the typical barrel style Traeger smokers which only require the removal of 2 small screws on the body and 2 screws on the digital controller and then feeding the new RTD through the barrel up to its mounting point. The Scout and Ranger models have the RTD secured to the body of the unit by 2 screws but the RTD runs through the body in a manner that appears inaccessible to replace without destroying the unit.

Upon testing the new digital controller, I soon discovered the unit performed exactly as before with uncontrollable high heat to the point of the unit going into safety shut down mode. At that point, I suspected the original RTD was the problem and not the digital controller. In order to test this theory, I removed the 2 wires on the original RTD located on the digital controller and then wired the new RTD to the controller. Since I could not find a way to remove and replace the old RTD, I stuck the new one on the inside of the grill on the pellet box in order to test the new RTD.

Upon turning the Scout on, the unit operated normally with the temperature regulating properly. It was now confirmed the RTD was the problem and not the digital controller as diagnosed by a Traeger technician during my initial call. So much for their legendary VIP 365 customer service and "seasoned experts who have my back." (From Traeger Owners Manual)

I called Traeger to speak to a technician to report what I had discovered and so that they could walk me through how to remove the old RTD from its mounting location and install the new RTD. I have quite a bit of experience working on another Traeger that I own and I am competent in repair and replacement of various Traeger parts. However, the Scout is manufactured differently than the typical barrel type Traeger's and I was stumped on how to remove the RTD without causing damage to the unit and felt the appropriate thing to do was call them to seek their expert assistance. After all, the Traeger manual directs customers not to return the Traeger, instead, they are "here to help!" (From Traeger manual customer service insert)

What happened next was unbelievable. I was once again placed in a queue. I was caller 99. (That is a problem in itself) I left my number and was called back later the same day by a customer service rep. After recounting this entire story, the rep placed me on hold in order to speak to a technician because the rep did not know how to walk me through the RTD replacement process. A few minutes later the rep came back on and said he spoke to a technician who indicated that they did not know how to replace the RTD on a Scout model and that it would be difficult at best and that it might not be repairable due to the design! He instructed the customer service rep to tell me to cut the RTD wire and install it like a barrel type Traeger. I couldn't believe my ears.

The customer service rep then attempted to give me those instructions and I had to interrupt him to explain (again) that the RTD installation was different on the Scout models and cutting wires and jury rigging a new one was not the proper way to replace an RTD. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. Again I was told no supervisor was available and they would take my number and have a supervisor call me.

Approximately (8) days later on December 23, 2019, I received a voice mail from a Traeger representative who did not identify her self. Without leaving me a name or a number, her voicemail directed me to call Traeger customer service back to reach her. Again, I could not believe my ears! How was I to return a call back to someone who did not leave their name or a direct call back number? Why did a customer have to wait 8 days to hear back from a supervisor? Unbelievable!

Due to the approaching holiday and suspecting that I would be placed in a queue of 99 callers again, I decided to wait until after the holiday to call Traeger Customer Service back in an attempt to find the supervisor who called me and so that I could request my money back. At this point, I was done fooling around with Traeger Customer Service reps on this matter during the holiday.

On January 2, 2019, now starting into my fourth (4th) month of inability to use my Traeger Scout, I called Customer Service back. Guess what? I was number 99 in queue. So, same drill, I left my number and later in the day a rep called me back. As before, I had to walk through the entire problem even though I was returning a call to supervisor. Instead of putting me through to a supervisor, the rep suggested I take the Scout to a Traeger service center.

For the first time in 3 months and several calls, Traeger suggested I take the grill (under a 3 year warranty) to a service center. I informed the rep that I was no longer willing to commit any more of my time on this nightmare and simply wanted to speak to a supervisor in order to seek a refund along with a return merchandise shipping order so that I could ship the unit and associated accessories back. You guessed it...no supervisor was available to speak to me. However, the rep told me she would personally see to it that a supervisor return my call before end of day.

The end of the day came and went without a call-back from a supervisor. So much for the promise from the customer rep to see to it that a supervisor call me before the end of the day. I ended up filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully, the BBB will have better luck than I've had. The moral of the story is two-fold: First-never, ever, ever, buy a Traeger Scout or Ranger. Second-in my opinion and experience, Traeger has the absolute worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt worth. They may have a 3-year warranty on their product, but if you cannot get parts in a timely manner, or competent technical expertise when it's needed, what's the point of owning their product? They may advertise that they are "here to help," but that has not been my experience.

As for me...upon completion of this forum submission, I'm heading to a local Green Mountain dealer to buy their version of a table top smoker. While I'm there, I also plan to purchase a new Green Mountain smoker to replace my Traeger Lil Tex. I'm done with Traeger products and their customer service run around. Whether I get my money returned for my purchase of the Scout that is unusable and apparently unrepairable, remains to be seen. I'm not holding my breath.

I bought my Traeger grill from Costco 7 months ago. I, like many others, have filed complaints with Traeger that the grill will not smoke or hold any temperatures below 250 degrees. This is critical if you are trying to smoke meat as per the many recipes outlined on the Traeger website. I have replaced the temperature probe and the digital controller/motherboard with no differences made. The grill will not hold any temperatures in the "smoke, 180, or the 225 settings."

Additionally the "hot rod" or igniter to start the grill stopped working. (I've seen this complaint several times from other customers as well.) So to start my grill I have to put a couple tablespoons of pellets in the fire box and light them with charcoal lighter fluid first. Once glowing red I start the Traeger up as usual. I do this instead of the $33. Traeger wants for a new one, plus the hassle of installing it which I understand from others is not that simple to do.

Another comment I would make is about the different flavors of wood pellets Traeger sells and uses in their recipes. The Traeger uses a small "blast furnace" to create heat. This small blast furnace is so hot it instantly burns up any oils in the small wood pellets that would give any associated flavors of that particular wood. So all the different wood pellets is just a ruse to sell you more pellets for different recipes.

As far as an outdoor convection oven, Traeger does okay if you're roasting a whole chicken or other meat that requires a higher temperature. Also searing meat is difficult because the only area of the grill that creates enough heat to sear is only a few inches in the very front or very back of the grill, where super heated air circulates from under the baffles below the cooking grates. For the money of Traegers, I would never buy another one or recommend one to a friend.

On or around the 12th informed them I was an attorney and they had committed fraud, conversion and breach of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act and I was filing an lawsuit. To the Traeger braintrust who is only interested in maximizing profits. Your product has such great potential but you are losing your market share in the quest for greater $$$$. What a disappointment, the so called stainless steel drip tray is rusting and peeling off in layers when cleaned, very low grade stainless, I have replaced two fans and the entire circuit board. The windings melted on both fans, this is a sign of cheap material used by your Chinese contractors. I build a plywood shelf on the bottom to stabilize the legs, they bend so easy if you catch them on something when moving the unit. The shelf works great. Perhaps Traeger could have thought of this issue.

Went to use it today and it started blowing fuses, the auger is making a funny noise so I suspect that is what is causing the overload. May have to replace it. This has turned out to be the most expensive BBQ I have ever purchased. Needles to say, will never buy one again, here's a thought, how about improving your parts so at least existing owners can rebuild and have a useful product.

We choose the Ranger because we planned to use it when we RV. Here is the sad part; we used this grill one time before it messed up. That one time, it worked great! It has been an absolute nightmare since then, trying to get this issue resolved. The temperature would go crazy high and shut off on its own and would not restart. When my husband called the first time, and we 'thought' it was a great experience until we received the temperature control module. It was the wrong model. All calls after that, we were told a different date that the correct controller would be mailed out, alway later than the original date.

Over two months and no controller, and the time gets pushed back on every call. Only until we escalated the situation were, we offered a replacement grill, which is not even the grill we have. I will NEVER recommend this grill to anyone. Looking at other reviews, it seems like this is a common problem with the Scout & Ranger grills. If you know this grill or controller are defective, take them off the market!!

I purchased my Traeger at Costco. The Rep was friendly and seemed helpful. I was told that I could purchase a warming shelf and a front drop shelf to go with my grill and given a number to call to do so. I was also instructed to shop Home Depot for all Traeger needs. After visiting my local Home Depot, I learned that they did not carry Traeger products.

My experience with calling the Traeger Grill Co has been a nightmare! Each time I call I experience extremely lengthy hold time, and being passed around to a minimum of 3 people, including supervisors. I have not had a phone call under 40 minutes. I called Traeger to order the warming shelf and was advised what to order. I received my order and it did not fit. I called Traeger to return the part and was told that I was not a customer and did not order the part, even though I was holding my Customer Order in my hand and looking at the part. I was told that I wasn't giving a correct order #, even though I was reading it from the Customer Order form.

I was also told that there was no warming shelf available for my grill. I got passed around to 3 people and 49 minutes later, I was issued refund instructions. The reps are not helpful, have no people skills and seem poorly trained if at all. Totally unacceptable!! I do not recommend a Traeger due to the intensely poor customer service.

After two weeks, no parts received under warranty and called on a Monday. Customer service checked with a warehouse supervisor in Washington and said that they arrived on Friday. Was told that it takes 24-48 hours to ship out and on Wednesday night, still no email that they shipped. It's been 2 and a half weeks and not even an update on where the controller is. Purchased Traeger Silverton at COSTCO in June 2019. After a few uses it would no longer hold temperature and just kept getting hotter. Called Traeger customer service and they said bad controller and would replace. Asked how long to get replacement and was advised it was out of stock and could be weeks. So my reply was it had been purchased at COSTCO and I would bring it back, suddenly they found a replacement controller in WA and would ship it to me. That was six weeks ago and no controller.

Since it was just sitting in back yard and I wanted to cook on high I decided to use it anyway. It went to 450 without any problem and held there. About 20 minutes into my cooking started to notice a noxious order coming from grill so immediately removed food and shut down grill. After it cooled down it was found that the interior of the grill had burnt off and was flaking in sections- -NOT GOOD! Traeger Silverton was returned to COSTCO today.

First, the Traeger customer service team treated me very well and was highly responsive to my concerns. The product, however, is unreliable and even dangerous. I purchased a Traeger Tailgater, and Traeger waterproof cover, from Home Depot. The unit worked well for the first few cooks. I followed the manufacturer's instructions for pre-heating and cool-down periods, and use only Traeger pellets.

A couple months into ownership, there were several spontaneous failures. The first was an overheat, where the temp simply ran away, burned the food, and cooked the main controller. Traeger shipped me a new controller and thermostat, which I replaced, and the unit ran OK for a couple more cooks. Then, there were more over-temperature issues. This unit's last cook overheated and the temperature ran away, again, and ended up causing a relatively significant fire in the grill itself. The temperatures were great enough to bubble the powder coating. I was forced to use a small kitchen fire extinguisher to control the fire.

Traeger first tried to send me another replacement thermostat, but later agreed to replace the unit at no cost. The replacement came with some cosmetic damage out of the box, which was disappointing. I elected, however, to accept the replacement and painstakingly disassembled, cleaned, and returned the damaged unit in the new unit's shipping box. I have a lot of e-mail traffic on the subject. Again, Traeger's customer service was very good.

The new unit worked fine for the first couple cooks. As stated before, I follow the manufacturer's instructions for pre-heating and cool-down, as well as clean the unit no less than every 2 cooks (inside debris, etc). Today, while cooking a pork shoulder, the temperature dipped low enough to cause the "Ler" error. I let the unit cool down and checked the inside (no issues detected). I restarted the unit using the standard warm-up procedure -- and significant white smoke began billowing out of the grill -- then the fire box suddenly (and audibly) caught fire and the temperature increased very rapidly. I feared an overheat/temp run away situation again, and immediately set the grill to shut down/cool down. I moved the pork into the house oven to finish. After the grill cooled down completed, I cleaned the inside. I did not see any overt issues (e.g., excess pellets in fire box, debris).

When the grill works, it helps create great meals; however, the brand's performance is inconsistent and unreliable. The failures I experienced were near-dangerous and, at least one, required the use of a fire extinguisher. I'm disappointed such an expensive purchase ruined so much meat -- and has been so unreliable. I may try another pellet-grill brand, but I won't be using the Traeger Tailgater any longer.

I then tried to use the unit on the high setting and had temperature fluctuations of approximately 60 degrees. I clean my grill each 3-5 uses. My pellets are new and stored indoors in an air tight container. I only load what I need for the cook. And yes the pellets are Traeger brand.

I contact customer service who had me clean the grill again. Customer service asked me how I was starting my grill and I explained as indicated in the owners manual. Customer service told me the start procedure was incorrect and I was to leave the lid closed and set to desired temperature and wait 15 minutes. Checking the FAQ at Traeger there is no indication of the lid closed start for my model. I wrote Traeger an email requesting the exact way to start and received the reply either a closed or open lid start will work. It was my choice how I wanted to start the unit. I now do a deep clean to include the vinegar cleaning of the temp probe each use with no change in excessive temperature fluctuation. Still having wild 60+ degree temperature swings when set to the high settings.

Customer service sends me a new digital control unit (DUAL PROBE). I installed the new controller and am now having a 100 degree temp difference when in the smoke setting. When set to 180 degrees the unit will heat to 280-300 degrees. Customer service is supposed to be sending a new temp probe. This is now going on three weeks. I have not tried the higher temp cooking as the unit will not cook at the lower temps. I want to like this pellet cooker, but have now ruined two different cuts of meat by not standing constant watch. I will be returning the unit to Costco.

I purchased a Traeger Grill June 2018, and have been having issues with it since May 2019, keep in mind I live in Upstate NY, so I don't use it for 4 months a year. It does not hit temperature, Shuts off on its own, and has Caught on fire twice. The Warranty is a 3 year "DO IT YOURSELF" warranty, which means you have to troubleshoot over the phone, get the parts, and Install them yourself!!! This company has a horrible product, they do not back it. After looking at their Better Business Bureau rating, it says this is common with them. Poor customer service and no return phone calls and the warranty is bad. BUY an Green Egg!!

I bought the grill from a very reputable place. I had trouble with it the first time I used it and every time thereafter. Temperature fluctuations during cooking and then it would just shut down sometimes. Very inconsistent. I have contacted Traeger multiple time about the problems I am having. They had me run the grill multiple times so they could check things. Well after a year of this, I had enough. Then they said they would send me a part and wanted me to attempt to fix it. I paid $2000 for this grill and was not about to fix it. I called today and was on hold for 30 minutes. I called again the they said they would have a manager call me. I waited for 2 hours and still no call. Horrible, horrible company that does not stand behind their grills.

I purchased a Traeger grill at the California state fair because they were offering an EZ payment plan which splits the price of the grill into three monthly payments. The rep at the fair assured me I would get the grill with seven days. 7 days pass and I contact customer service to see if I can get a tracking number as I am rather excited to receive the grill. The agent tells me the accounts purchased from the state fair have a few more steps to complete than grills purchased elsewhere. No problem, and understood. I call back on day 14 and the agent tells me they are missing the last four digits of my zip code, they have the first five, but it was placed on hold until they could find the information. The agent corrects the mistake and tells me the grill should continue to process.

Day 17 the agent calls me back and tells me they do not have proof of my first installment which was paid at the fair. I email him a picture of the portion of my bank account where it shows Traeger has received the first installment. Now the agent states he can not process the grill delivery until the grill is paid in full. I read back the terms and conditions stated on my receipt, the agent becomes confused and I ask to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor states she doesn’t understand why my grill can not be processed and will have to contact another branch of there organization.

I am asked to wait 3-5 business days for a response. I do not mind waiting as I have not paid for the grill in full. What I am frustrated with is contacting customer service multiple times and having agents continually give me a different reason why the grill has not been processed for shipping. Which is it: their payment system, the extra four digits after the six digit zip code or, how they process trade show orders?

Have had this grill for less than a year and have had trouble with it from the beginning. It would just cut off for no reason with an error code of "AER", which they said was not a valid code. But "HER" was a valid code... I do know the difference in an A and an H to say the least. Every time that I used it, I had to constantly go check it to be sure that it was still running. After a terrible episode of smoking profusely and the temp set at 450 degrees, it read that it was 122 degrees and was billowing smoke.

They said they were sending me a controller and would take about 10 days. After waiting 17 days I contacted them about the controller. They told me that it was out of stock, which based on some of the reviews here, it appears that every type of part this company has is out of stock. They said this part would not be stocked until September. Hello, this is July. And it does not appear that the company cares at all to satisfy their customer. You would think that they would have let me know this instead of me having to contact them asking about the part. At this time, I would not recommend this grill to anyone. Even if I dislike them. There are other pellet grills that appear to work great evidenced by other people but they are not made by this company.

Purchased a Silverton Traeger pellet grill at Costco. A pretty expensive grill. The first time I fired it up for initial break in burn the doors on the front of cabinet fell off. They had used plastic clips to hold the hinge pins which melted right off. Now the fact that happened was not the issue. Despite how reassuring and nice their customer service was on phone they would never get the part sent out. So here I spent between 700$ and 800$ on a grill which has the doors fall off right away and the company can't get me the replacement part. They keep telling me the part has been redesigned and keep sending me the old defective part which takes like 8-10 weeks to arrive. I finally gave up on it and fixed the door myself.

6 months later another defective door arrived, still the one with the plastic clips that melt. Never did the company resolve that problem. I called them at that time to mention that another part had gone bad shortly after firing up the grill, the large metal drip pan warped on the 1st or 2nd burn and has never sat flat in the grill since. We've been playing the same game here except I never have seen this part arrive. They keep saying they will send me on and it never shows up. I never get any follow up email about our conversations, nothing. Just no part. I keep calling, but it's been about 6 months now. I think I'm going to try and return this to Costco, this company does not stand behind their product. The product isn't bad, but I'm really concerned something important will stop working and these guys are pretty impossible to get a part from. This is like owning a Sears grill when Sears went out of business.

I did the initial firing instructions and everything went normally. I used my grill the first time to make a pizza and it turned out fine. The second use was ribs using the 3-2-1 method. The temp would not stay regulated with the temperature fluctuating over 200 degrees. I took the grill apart and cleaned the firebox out thinking that might be the problem. The third use was pork chops. Same result. I was so disgusted with the performance that I called customer service. They had me clean the grill again and do a test run for them. Same thing. Temp fluctuation.

The rep said I had bad pellets even though they were Traeger brand. He sent me a metal chute to help the pellets feed better and prevent flare-ups. I cleaned everything out again and put the chute in and bought new pellets. Same thing. Temp all over the place. Called customer service and all they wanted to do was tell me that I have to completely clean it out every use even though that's what I did. They also said that I have to clean the temp probe with vinegar. They just wanted to get me off the phone. This Traeger Ranger seems to be an after thought by Traeger. It's a good idea but failed in the design and engineering. Grease leaks out of the grill onto any and everything it is setting on. Wood chip dust from the grill gets into the fan compartment and collects there. Due to the extreme heat I think it might be a fire hazard. The grilling instructions that are included with this grill are actually for the LARGE Traegers. If you use this recipe book for the smaller Traeger you will always over grill your food. Try to tell Traeger about it and they don't want to hear about it. This grill has already been recalled for defects according to Traeger by the Government. P.S. I'm a certified BBQ Judge.

I bought a Bronson 20 from Ace Hardware about a year ago and have used it roughly ten times for smoking brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, as well as grilling burgers and pizza. My smoker is ridiculously all over the place in temperature. For example: I am smoking a 6 pound pork shoulder at this time, and am five hours in. The temperature is set to 250, and it has varied in ten minute cycles between 180 and 330, the narrowest it got was two cycles of 230 to 305. This is the BEST the smoker has performed since I just found out that I am required to tell the smoker how to regulate itself through the use of a “P” setting that is set by using a toothpick to push a button inside a toothpick sized hole on the temperature controller panel.

I experimented with every P setting over the course of more than ten hours this weekend watching it cycle through, and on every single P setting performed roughly the same with the temperature setting at 180, 225, and 250. Set at 180, every P setting varies between 150 and 400, and it gets gradually “better” with each increase in temperature setting. You may wonder why am I sitting and watching my smoker go through every wild temperature swing: the reason is that in the five hours of smoking so far, the smoker has completely gone out and had to be re-set and re-initialized in order to continue operating.

Again, this is the BEST the smoker has performed. All typical customer service answers have changed nothing. The auger spins, I use only Traeger brand pellets that are not wet and do not crumble in the hand, the temperature is 70 degrees outside and it is sheltered from wind/breezes, I properly start the smoking session by putting it in smoke for ten minutes with the lid open, the thermometer is clean, I vacuum out the ash after every session, and have tested all P settings through several temperature cycles.

I called Traeger and after a lengthy conversation with customer service the representative was finally pushed into shipping a new control panel. The rep initially tried to get off the phone with me by telling me to do start-up correctly next time and that should solve all the issues when I told them I started the smoker by using the "Smoke" setting with the lid open for ten minutes (Their own FAQ page on their website says 5-10 minutes). The rep acted affronted that I would let it start on Smoke for ten minutes, and said it should be run on Smoke for a maximum of three minutes.

When I stated that their own website FAQ page says 5-10 minutes they just reiterated that I follow their instructions, well which ones Traeger? Your phone rep instructions? Or your printed instructions? Because they are different. Why should I spend days’ worth of hours on research, observation, and troubleshooting on a $500 electric pellet smoker that I still have to sit and watch every minute in case the hopper catches fire or the smoker completely goes out while watching temperatures bounce between 200 and 300 when it’s behaving at its best? I don’t have time to try and fix the problem Traeger handed me with my purchase. I don’t have hours to spend on the phone with customer service, or for replacing parts that hopefully aren’t defective this time.

Traeger, put out products that are quality controlled, and maybe if a P setting is a vital component to regulating the temperature then build a real control for it instead of a tiny hole hidden by a piece of tape controlled by a toothpick (supplied by the customer). By all means get one, maybe I got a lemon, but a quick Google search reveals many people having similar issues and are having to spend hours with customer service only to be sent parts they have to personally replace. I don’t expect a smoker to maintain a single temperature for hours on end. But at this point, even a 50 degree swing would be a miracle.

The kicker in this whole situation that brought me here was that I went to their website to write a one star review outlining everything I said here, and I confirmed my review through my email. The system said my review was properly confirmed and submitted. I got the confirmation over 24 hours ago, and my review still has not been posted to their website. Interesting that my review is a one star rating and it hasn't been posted, and their page for the Bronson 20 has zero two or one star reviews... Is it ethical to cherry pick reviews? NO, but I expect as much from them now. I also haven't received any communication from their customer service to reach out and help with my issues or try to discuss why I left the feedback (that they aren't making public). I guess I'll have to rely on sites like this to get the word out.

I called Traeger and they immediately sent me a replacement part. Unfortunately, this was not the correct part to fix my grill. I called again (after another 20-minute wait on hold) and they told me to to do a closed lid start. Nope. That didn't fix the problem. I have emailed over 10 times and get the runaround after waiting over a week for each response. They tell me to take it to an authorized dealer.

I tried but the dealer informs me they need a work order. I call to get a work order. The representative has no idea what I am talking about. I call back and then they email me a blank form without filling out the work order. I instruct them how to fill out their own work order (what on earth?). Now it’s May, my warranty expires in June and no relief in sight. I am actually sitting on a 30 min hold as I type. After I was informed that the dealer I need to contact has 1 repair person that comes on site 1x per week and he generally does not show for appointments. WOW. This has been exhausting and expensive investment only to find out they do not stand behind their product or customer service. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Anyone planning on buying any Traeger smoker, plan on being disappointed. I bought a Timberline 1300 last fall. Spent over $1999.00 for the unit. After using it a few times I noticed that the recovery time was extremely slow and most times at high temps when cooking it never reached its cooking temp. I contacted Traeger and they told me there was nothing they would do. This spring they came out with a whole new system that was to solve all of these problems I was having called D2 technology. I contacted Traeger “support” on three different occasions and asked them if they would be offering an upgrade for my smoker to the new D2 technology. They pretty much told me to spend another $1999.00 and buy another new smoker to replace my less than one year old smoker. I promised them that I would tell all of my friends of their sucky support and never spend another dime with Traeger equipment. Their support sucks the big one. Thanks for listening!

I bought my grill in the beginning of April. I have tried to use it 3 times, and the grill will not stay lit. I tried to call customer service and was on hold for over 30 minutes. I did that three times while sitting at work. On the third stint of waiting I was able to get through to someone. He told me that I needed to have the serial number and that I did not properly register the grill and would need to call back. I asked for a manager and was told that they all had gone home but someone could call me back within 24 hours. That was 3 days ago. I have a hard time supporting a product if the company hided from helping with a defective unit!

Got my first Traeger (Bronson 20) as a gift December of 2017 and I fell in love with it! I use it 3-5 times a week. I have had about 3 LER codes, but I learned my auger would have a pellet void making pellets fill my fire pot and put the fire out. I learned by occasionally & lightly stirring the pellets around to avoid have a tunnel like drainage kept pellets flowing correctly. A few days ago I bought a new Traeger the Ironwood 885 with the D2 controller & wifi and I couldn't be happier! I have 7 other grills, but my Traeger is my go to grill!!!

I bought my grill two years ago. I like the grill well enough but just recently something shorted out in the control panel and it melted it. First I emailed them, no reply for a week. So I resent first email response the next day asking which model I have. I replied almost instantly and again... no response for a week so same procedure resend email...nothing. At this point I’m frustrated and send them an email saying so, look at that they respond in 20 min saying they will ship the part and I should get an email to track it.

Five days later no email so I decide to call. They said the warehouse near me doesn’t have any but one on the opposite coast does. And they could change warehouses if I like.. I asked if there was one local at a dealer I could pick up... The lady was friendly enough says she will check and get right back to me. Of course that doesn’t happen so I call again and same thing different person. And no response. Out of curiosity I call the local dealer they have the part but can’t help me with warranty. I will get a Green Mountain grill next time...

While I don't do significant internet business and do my best to support my small town local vendors, I was enamored entirely with this product at a COSTCO demo. I did research comparing the ability to cook and user cooking reviews, but I failed to check about the practices of the business. The company specifically claims all orders are filled within 24 hours and shipped with an expected delivery date of 7 business days later. When reconciling my month end credit card statement I saw the charge 24 hours after the order, as expected, but when it had been significantly more than seven business days and I called to find out if it had somehow been shipped to a wrong address or some other way lost by a shipping company. No.

The order had never shipped. The company cannot even tell me WHEN it will ship. It may be me, but I find it odd a company would take money without disclosing either a backorder status (at best) or even admit they have no product and no prospects of getting the product. I would strongly suggest, no matter how good the product may perform, not buying anything from the Traeger site. ONLY buy something you can put your hands on at the time of purchase.

I purchased my Traeger Pellet Grill at Costco. Model TFS62PLD SN. 1812-FN-013***. The grill was aggressively marketed and discounted. NOW I know why. Few weeks later Traeger rolled out their new line. When it came to assembling the grill, it became obvious that the grill had mismatched parts from several different models. Among other things the lower cabinet doors are 2" too large to fit. There are parts for a grill with a smoke stack which my grill does NOT have.

I started contacting Traeger customer service 3 weeks ago now. First, I registered my unit on-line. When I contacted their representative, he was unable to find my registration... So he took my information and registered me manually. I even received a confirmation e-mail about the registration he did. I received an email from the service@traegergrills.com asking me to describe my issues. I emailed Traeger service a complete description of my problems with pictures etc. at least 10 times. Even from different e-mail addresses, so that they can not claim it getting lost in spam.

Here is where my real nightmare starts:

1. Every time I call Traeger customer support, they are unable to find me in their database. So, they ask me to register my product online or if I get an agent that is not a total jerk they offer to take my information.
2. For the past two weeks, I called their support line every other day (now it is a game for me before I lose my mind) and the same thing happens. I do not exist.
3. I keep asking for a supervisor and I am told that they are "ALL extremely busy" helping other customers and that they will call me back. After today, I am on a request #7 for a supervisor. I never received a call back.

4. From a desperation, I thought that I would contact the local Boise Idaho Traeger rep. I left three messages and so far I did not receive a call from him.

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. I think that I would like the grill if it was complete and not thrown together from mismatched parts. I suspect that they put these units together as they were ramping up the new grill production. SHAME on YOU Traeger!!!! YOU have now lost a loyal customer since 2005!

I purchased this grill and have had nothing but problems with it. It has never worked, and I am getting the runaround from Traeger customer service. The first time I attempted to use the grill, I started it on smoke, as per the instructions. The temperature slowly went all the way up to 400 degrees, and then shut down. I performed the shut down process, per the instructions, and tried again. Same results. The first time I contacted Traeger customer support, they had me run through the start up process with them on the phone, with the same results. They diagnosed the problem as being the Hot Rod, and they shipped me a replacement. After replacing the hot rod, I attempted to start the grill again. Same problems.

On my next contact with customer service, I was informed that this is a common problem they are having with this model and the problem is the controller. They said they would ship me a replacement. After two weeks and having not receiving the controller, I again contacted customer support. I was told that the controllers are on back order, and they do not expect to get any stock for 3 weeks. So now it is too late for me to return the grill to Ace as their return policy states that the item must be returned in 30 days, and must be unused. Until Traeger resolves these issues, I would advise against buying one of the grills.

Purchased a Century 34 on 1/20/19 - less than two months later I used it for a 3rd time and the paint bubbled/peeled off the front. I called Traeger warranty dept. and was told the damage would be covered and to send in a pic and the receipt. I did so and then received a reply advising me the damage was consequential and that they would not cover it since the grill still functioned. Furthermore, I was told that I could just paint it. Not only is that a shameful response but when I posted a picture on their FB page I then noticed that they delete every single negative comment and picture that anyone posts. It’s a sad day when a company neither stands by its products nor its customers. Do NOT buy a Traeger until they learn to treat their customers with respect and actually warranty their product!!!

I purchased my grill on the 19th of February and was excited to see what all the fuss was about with these pellet grills. After 5 days, I received some accessories they threw in for free, but no grill. No big deal I thought. After not getting any kind of shipping notification, I decided to call in. The first rep I spoke to was nice, however, he could not find my order. He somehow tracked it down and said I would receive a shipping notification. I did and the tracking number did not work, and said it was invalid. I trusted that this was just a minor issue. Fast forward 2.5 weeks later and I still had not received the grill that was promised to arrive within 7-10 days. Called in and the rep was unhelpful and in a terrible mood. Said they had no clue where it was, but that it was on the way... when asked if they could verify with FedEx, they said they tried and could not. At this point it just sounded like they did not have time.

I called FedEx and found out it was sitting in a distribution center right outside of San Antonio, not that hard to find out. I went and picked it up myself. Got the Grill home to find out it was completely destroyed. Bent from all angles. When I called Traeger to just get a refund on the item, they said they would have to investigate and that would take 3-4 days and that I would pay for the return shipping. How does a company expect the consumer to pay for return shipping on an item that was a week late, unusable and provided horrid service along the way? Judging from the reviews that's par for the course at Traeger. Really one of the worst experiences I've had as a consumer with a larger company.

Bought the Traeger Pro Series grill. Got it home, set it up and started the process of curing the grill. That went smooth enough. Then started cooking a pork Butt. That was not so smooth. Grill set at 225 degrees was going along fine. I monitor my temps with a wireless ThermoPro TP20 thermometer. I had the alarm set at 300 degrees and 3 hours into the cook the temp dropped to 90 degrees. Went out to the grill and sure enough the temp on the display said 85 degrees. Checked the hopper, Hmm full of pellets so I shut it down. Removed the butt and dismantled it right down to the fire pot. Everything was normal.

I removed any pellets in the fire pot and started the grill up as per the instructions in the book. Another 2 hours into the cook and the alarm is going off. I looked at it and it was at 312 and climbing. I've seen this with my old Camp Chef before and thought I would let it just equalize. Well when it hit 398 degrees I knew that that was not gonna happen. Walked back out to the grill and opened it up and there was a freight train going on inside the grill without the train. Never heard this sound from my old pellet grill. Again I shut it down and remove the butt and clean out out the firepot and start all over again.

Needless to say I got my 8lb. pork butt done in 11 hours instead of the 8 I thought it would take. Nothing wrong with the Butt. Great smoke flavor, shredded nicely. So I call tech support and the girl proceeds to tell me that I started the grill wrong. Ok So the instruction that are in the manual are wrong. Yes she says. Ok Gives me a completely opposite way of starting the grill. Door closed on high for at least 15 minutes. Ok I'll give that a try.

So Now I'm gonna make some jerky. Ok this should be easy. Wrong again. It's 65 degrees outside and I have the grill set to smoke. 180 degrees max. Not Ideal for jerky but it will work with some adjustments. I proceed. Smoke setting keeps erroring out, and the temperature is well into the 240s. Bottom rack of jerky is cooked now instead of dehydrated. I call tech support again and she says, "Yeah you might want to put the dial on 180 degrees instead of SMOKE." Really? What's the smoke setting for? So $850.00 for a grill and I can't use the smoke setting? This just keeps getting worse.

I talk to her about the temperature swings I am experiencing on the first cook and this cook and she determines that the RTD probe is probably the issue here and she is going to get one right out to me. Gonna ship it overnight Monday. Ok well that's pretty good tech support I'm thinking. Well Tuesday came and went. Wednesday came and still no RTD probe. I called the tech line. "Sorry sir. I don't know why this was not shipped. I'm gonna escalate this and you will get an email when its ships." Ok, wait a day, no email. Call them back, they have me in the system as talking about a front shelf not an RTD probe and the probe is still not shipped. So now My Patience is gone. My whole demeanor is in what exactly is going on here mode.

I ask for a supervisor and the wisenheimer on the other end of the phone say, "I'll put you on the list." The LIST?? "Just how many people are on this list?" I ask. He proceeds to tell me that they are releasing a new model grill in a couple days and the supervisors are handling all those calls. WHAT???? The supervisors are handling calls for a grill that's not even on the market yet??? And that's why I can't talk to a supervisor?

To say the least I am totally discouraged about the overly priced, high reputation, set it and forget it grill, and I don't even know what to say about the tech support. My Advice is, if you buy a Traeger, see your doctor first and get a prescription for anti-anxiety medication because you're gonna need it. Or just buy a Pit Boss or a Camp Chef or a Green Mountain, anything but a Traeger.

Don't be DUMB like me. Read the reviews!!! I bought a Traeger Ranger and there were no REVIEWS to read. The design of this grill allows most of the expensive pellet smoke to exit the grill during warm up and cooking from the excessive fourteen vents located on the sides of the base of the grill leaving very little smoke for the food. The larger Traeger Grills have a stack that lets you control the smoke. No controls on the Ranger.

NEXT, while cooking juicy meats the moisture raises up to the inside walls of the grill and runs down the sides as grease and leaks out around the edges of the lid and leaves a large greasy mess outside where the grill has been placed. More juice runs down and out of the grill lid than goes into the grease bucket Traeger provides for that purpose. The problem is the design with the lip of the grill lid overlapping the base and allowing the grease to flow outside.

I SOON LEARNED that the Recipe Book that came with the Ranger does not relate to cooking times or temps on the Traeger Ranger but is for the much larger Traeger Grills, so it is necessary to experiment with the cooking times. The larger Traegers have a much larger inside area to heat as opposed to the much smaller portable Treagers that get hot faster which greatly affects the cooking times. I spoke with Traeger Customer Service, they have no plans to modify a recipe book for the smaller units. Two months later the Trager Ranger was RECALLED nationally due to a safety problem with some of the components according to their Customer Service Agents. Too bad Traeger designers didn't test the grill before foisting it on the public for testing.

I have Traeger's Elite Pro at my Lake Home and it works fantastic which is why I purchased their Scout for my condo. I am now on my second Scout and these grills are not worth the money. They say "set it and forget it", you cannot do that with these grills. I cook salmon on 275, after I change the setting from smoke to 275, put the salmon on, when I go back out the temp is up to 500. The temp has even risen to 500 when I have had the Scout on smoke. If I call Customer Service, they just say "you need to change the "P" setting". No matter what "P" setting I put the Scout on, the grill burns increasingly high, about 150 degrees higher than it is supposed to. I do not recommend this grill.

My buddy who got one of the originals talked me into this HUGE mistake of a purchase. His is still working fine mines for sale though I should state in the ad "for parts only". I purchased a medium sized Traeger grill 6 years ago this spring. Since then I cook most everything on it. We had our moments of getting used to this grill. Which by the way is way more than just a grill. This is a wood pellet oven, smoker and grill. Reading the recipes online helps to learn how to properly cook on this device. It is not going to be the same as your gas grill. For one they do not get as hot. I found out after making mediocre steaks a few times that smoking them for about 30 min then taking them off and turning the heat to high and putting them back on for 3-5 min each side gives you an amazing flavorful perfectly cooked medium rare steak.

We use it all winter long. I would guess that in really cold climates that could be difficult but it rarely gets below 40 here in Virginia Beach. You can turn any frozen pizza into a wood fired delicious pizza. I would absolutely recommend this grill and I will definitely be getting a new one once this one stops working. BTW after 6 years we have had zero issues with it. Always make sure you do not run it out of pellets, cook on lowest heat first then turn up. Going the opposite way will not result in the temperature you want.

Best grill ever in my opinion, when it works. I live in the northeast, so we get four seasons of weather. When our Traeger is working we use it year-round, during the winter we have a Traeger thermal blanket which does work well to maintain the heat. When cold (25 degrees F or less) the grill can achieve and maintain ~375 degrees F.

The problem is the pellet auger routinely gets jammed, ever since I bought this new. After replacing the motor twice, putting a cover over the grill when not in use to reduce the risk of moisture in the pellets and sifting new bags of Traeger pellets to remove the sawdust, still have the same problem, year-round. The activities mentioned were done based on discussions with the Traeger technical support group. To correct, it takes about 15-20 minutes to empty and dismantle the hopper, motor, pull the auger out, clean the chamber and re-assemble. I believe this to be a basic design issue with the grill itself although Traeger will not comment on this, other than ask the same questions about moisture, sawdust, whose pellets I use, etc. In the end if you're willing to put up with the design flaw, it’s a great grill. If not, look elsewhere.
