What is Cinch Home Services?

Cinch Home Services is a home warranty company that offers both home warranty and home protection plans. The company offers three different plans, each of which protects important items and systems in your home.

You can get a quote for Cinch Home Services by filling out an online form or calling the company. Cinch plans can be purchased directly or through select affinity partners, including financial, insurance, retail, utility and real estate. After you’ve signed your agreement, you can begin submitting claims as needed on your covered appliances or home systems when they need to be repaired.

Cinch Home Services coverage and plans

Cinch Home Services sells three home warranty plans: Repair Only, Repair + Replace, and Repair + Replace Premier.

It’s a pretty standard selection, but one standout feature is that it includes a $500 homeowners insurance deductible reimbursement as part of the Repair + Replace and Repair + Replace Premier coverage.

Also, its plans cover mechanical failures caused by rust, corrosion or sediment.

Cinch Home Services cost

Cinch Home Services offers three service fee options: $100, $125 and $150. The one you choose affects the overall monthly cost of your plan.

The higher your fee, the lower your monthly cost.

Choosing a higher service fee may be a good idea for homeowners who don’t expect to have a lot of service calls in a year but want to ensure they’re covered if they do.

Those who may have more issues in a calendar year could financially benefit from a lower service fee, even if the monthly cost is higher.

Cinch Home Services coverage exclusions

Like most home warranty companies, Cinch Home Services has some plan exclusions. Here are a few of the key exclusions:

  • Routine maintenance
  • Items covered by any other warranty, insurance or guarantee
  • Failures caused by anything other than normal wear and tear, like mold, neglect, "acts of God," etc.
  • Costs of construction, code upgrades, modifications, disposal of old equipment and more
  • Commercial-grade appliances
  • Flues, venting, chimneys and exhaust lines
  • Items without a visible model or serial number
  • Recalled or defective items (as determined by Consumer Product Safety Commission or manufacturer)
  • Improper installation or repairs
  • Anything below the slab or basement floor

It’s important to note that each type of repair has its own exclusions. For example, cooktops are covered, but the company won’t replace a cracked glass top that was “misused” or “abused.” Make sure to check your contract for a full list of exclusions.

Cinch Home Services coverage limits

The following items or systems have a coverage limit per agreement term.

How to file a claim

You can request service through your online account or by calling the company directly. You can often open the request and put in your preferred appointment time simultaneously to expedite the process.

Once the request is in, Cinch will provide a referral to one of its service professionals (usually within two hours during normal business hours). However, the company doesn’t guarantee when that service professional will schedule your appointment.

Cinch Home Services FAQ

Does Cinch Home Services require a home inspection?

No, a home inspection isn’t necessary to qualify for a Cinch home protection plan. Its plans cover all appliance makes and models and unknown preexisting conditions.

Can I pick my own service technician with Cinch Home Services?

Usually, the company selects its own in-network professional for service, but it may authorize your claim for work by someone out of network after some paperwork. Make sure to read your contract to see everything required before you go this route to ensure you’re covered when it comes time to get reimbursed.

Does Cinch Home Services have an age limit on systems or appliances?

No. Cinch Home Services covers all makes, models and ages of systems and appliances (included in its coverage list). Older models aren’t exempt from repair or replacement coverage.

Where are Cinch Home Services warranties available?

Cinch Home Services is available in 48 states.

How can I manage my Cinch warranty plan?

You can create an account any time after you purchase your plan by visiting the customer login page on the company’s site. With your online account, you can request service, check service request status, download plan documents, update information and more.

Can I cancel my Cinch warranty plan?

Yes, you can cancel your Cinch Home Services plan over the phone or in writing. You will receive a full refund of the contract fees paid if you cancel within 30 days of the coverage effective date.

Is Cinch Home Services legit?

Yes, Cinch Home Services is a legitimate home warranty provider. Its list of exclusions is pretty simple and straightforward, with no big red flags.

We like that Cinch backs up its work with a fairly long workmanship guarantee, and its plans include comprehensive coverage. It’s also easy to submit and track a claim through the Cinch online portal.

So far, my experience with Cinch has been good. However, the communication between the service people and them, could be a little more streamlined. It seems like they don't communicate very well on what's going on with the customer. With our recent contractor, the tech came out and said that our parts for our washer were not longer available. The Cinch people didn't even know what was going on. But they would try hard to find a solution to the customer's problem. It wasn't really them, it was whoever's in charge of getting the information, like if the customer needs a replacement, and that takes a little bit longer than it should.

Sometimes the techs aren't that great, as well. It's been hit or miss because different appliances, we've had different people sometimes. For our dishwasher last year, they had to come out several times to diagnose the problem. They got the parts in, someone put in the parts wrong, then they short-circuited the motor. Then the other person came out and said, "That person did it wrong." Then, when we had them come out for our fridge, the guy broke something after the part was installed. We never called about it because it takes so long to get parts and people.

Nowadays, it's so hard to get anything accomplished with anything in life, but at least a couple of times, they've replaced our appliances. For the most part, they always answer when we call. Also, they should put the actual status online versus just saying that I have a service repair. But the reps generally try to help me when I call, and they've always been extremely nice.

We truly appreciate your kind words about our representatives and their efforts to support you.

We also want to acknowledge the challenges you’ve mentioned. Variability in repair timelines and repeated visits can be inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience as we work to deliver a more consistent experience.

I've had good times with Cinch where they've sent out help and I've had no problems, but then I've had other times when I’ve had significant delays. 80% of the time, everything's fixed and scheduled quickly. About 20% of the time, it's a delayed response, they can't find the vendor or a solution. For the most part, the reps have been reasonable and responsive. When we called them back, they were able to find the notes and track what was going on.

I've had instances where the techs came out to repair an air conditioner, and they said everything was great and working, but it wasn't. I called them back, and they said, “We can't get back to you for three weeks.” I had to call Cinch back, and they worked it out, but then another vendor had to come out. Cinch has been really good, at least with the appliances. Cinch has been reasonable for what we've had. It has been advantageously used in our home.

I’ve been handling the warranty and payments for our family home ever since it was first passed to us through a government repossession deal. It had a warranty with Cinch Home Services for the first year. Although the original warranty owner was my brother, Kelvin, it’s been my responsibility for the past decade. I needed to extend the home warranty after relocating the house ownership to my name. Over the years, they’ve been fairly responsive, especially with claims when submitted directly online, which speeds up the process significantly compared to calling in.

Yet, my most recent claim experience impressed me the most. A specific repair for the refrigerator was outstanding, thanks to the technician from Grays Appliances. Unlike prior attempts where AAA Appliance struggled to root out the issue fully, Grays got it right on the first try. I haven’t experienced any recurring problems since their tech's visit over a month ago. It feels as good as new, and I even reached out to the technician post-repair to express my satisfaction.

The only hitch came with a service hiccup regarding the warranty details being incorrectly listed under my brother's name. Resolving this required a bit of back-and-forth and three-way calls. Moreover, I find the pricing and service costs creeping up steadily. What started as a manageable monthly fee 13 years back has now escalated close to $65, likely prompting me to reassess my future coverage options.

Overall, apart from some minor hiccups regarding account handling and rising costs, my experience with Cinch Home Services has been predominantly positive, bolstered by effective and reliable service responses, especially recently. While I’m considering exploring different plans due to rising costs, my long history with Cinch represents a mostly stable and valuable relationship.

We had Sears’ coverage, and when they were on their way out, a friend of mine who runs an appliance repair business told me I should get on board with Cinch. They cover all your appliances for more or less the same amount of money, and if they can't cover it, they'll fix it. I like that if I had an old dryer break and they couldn't fix it, Cinch will either give me a replacement for no cost to me other than the deductible or they'll give me a payout. With the older plans we used to have, that wasn't an option.

I've Cinch them at least three times in the last few years. When I use them, I can do it online but calling is a bit of a challenge. It's hard for me to get another human. It's all automated. Also, sometimes I get someone who's hard to understand. It's a little difficult to have the back and forth when you're trying to be specific. But they're very and knowledgeable. I've never had to hang up or scream at somebody.

I prefer to use my friend because I know he won't mess around as opposed to a company I've never heard of, who may come out and may not do such a good job. I mentioned this to Cinch the last time we spoke to them that it'd be nice if I went online to put in a claim, I had an option to choose from a list of people that they have that I can choose. One time I called, they just gave me some company. I'm in New York on Staten Island and they sent out somebody from Brooklyn. It was not a good experience. The repairman came out and told me he'd get back to me but he never did. I actually forgot about it, and my wife reminded me. When I called the company, they said they were gonna take care of it. But two days later, Cinch emailed me with a payout. The repairman didn't do the repair and put it through as a total job. I called Cinch back and told them what happened. I also them them if they're just gonna give me a company, to not give me them.

The coverage is a little pricey, but things are pricey today. As my friend told me, even though I pay a $150 deductible plus $56 a month, it's still cheaper than calling him cold for him to come. He says he charges upwards of 250 just to walk in the door.

Robert, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed experience with Cinch! We're delighted to hear that you've found value in our appliance coverage and appreciate the kind recommendation from your friend in the repair business. Your input about the call experience is invaluable, and we're committed to ensuring a smoother interaction whether you're online or on the phone.

We regret any inconvenience regarding the service partner sent from Brooklyn and will explore options for enhancing choice in service times and provider compatibility in your area. We’re glad we could resolve an unyielding repair through a prompt payout, highlighting our effort to stand by our service commitment. While the premiums include some costs, you're saving substantial amounts beyond warranty protection in comparison with do-it-yourself repairs.

Your satisfaction is paramount, so knowing you're overall pleased affirms we will work diligently on the areas we can improve. Thank you for trusting Cinch, and we’ll strive to offer greater efficiency and responsiveness in the future! - Brooklyn, Social Media Team

I made a claim with Cinch Home for a plumbing issue which was handled by a plumber from a company called On Target. The plumber came unprepared, lacking essential equipment and arriving in an old cop car. I had sewage backing up, and unfortunately, he couldn’t assist properly. My daughter, also my realtor, intervened and through some maneuvering, hooked me up with these other people out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee who were also from Cinch Home's system. In the end, Cinch reimbursed me 2,500 because it was a huge broken line out in the yard.

Later, I encountered an issue with my HVAC system. A professional from Sears came out to address the problem, and his expertise was truly a relief. His thorough and professional handling was noteworthy. However, I had another issue with my air conditioning unit which failed to keep up with the heat. On Target was dispatched once more, but the representative was unable to locate my address and displayed poor professionalism, arriving in flip-flops and taking ineffective checks around the house.

With my daughter's help, a second opinion was requested and a reputable company, Elite, responded promptly, guiding me through preliminary steps over the phone, and is set to thoroughly check my unit. Up to now, their communication has been top-notch. I’ve been with Cinch since moving in, and while my initial experiences have been mixed, I appreciate the resolution effort and am hopeful about the upcoming service. If my future experiences continue to improve, I might consider renewing the service in October.

We've been protected with Cinch for six years, and submitting a claim is good because it's on the internet, and it's easy to do, more quite internet savvy. But as far as working with some of the people within Cinch, the guy who did the air conditioner was really good or the heat system, but I've had somebody out here to do my refrigerator right now, and not so good. I've been without a refrigerator for about a week and a half now. They came out and they said it's a two-person job, and they had to send somebody out because it was a compressor. Then they came back out and just put Freon in it today, and it's not cooling. They said wait 24 hours, but these things cool in an hour if there's nothing in them.

I've had Cinch Home Services since December 2018, when I bought the house. At the time, it seemed to be the best deal. For the most part, my experience has been good. I like that I can get service 24 hours a day. Cinch has a wide variety of different vendors that they use to troubleshoot and deal with my issues. The contractors have all been good. I haven't had any major issues with them. I had a claim with an electrical issue. Cinch sent somebody out. Sometimes, it takes a little longer to get folks in, depending on how much they have. But they came out and they were very courteous. They took care of what was needed to be taken care of, and I was very appreciative.

On Sunday, I noticed my Tankless waterheater had a leaking a tiny bit. Over a day and only had small amount of water collected. Cinch sent out a contractor who left me with no hot water. Previously to servicer coming out I had hot water. I was given misinformation several times by their customer service. I was told since the company who broke my water heater had to be the ones to replace my water heater. This was very unacceptable to me under the circumstances and the technician thinking it’s OK to leave me in this situation. I called in Monday and was told if I did not want that company to come out that I would be credit and I could use whatever company I picked after assured that replacement was approved . Then after receiving an a text message that the part had been ordered for tankless waterheater, which made no sense since had Approved replacement. I found out on that phone call the amount allowed was $1400 which barely covers the cost of the unit with no labor. After calling in to Customer Service 7 times, the case manager called me back and offered me to replace with comparable model and did not have to the use the first service provider. That was the original solution I wanted to begin with on Monday but since that was not an option for me, I went ahead and scheduled with a reputable company. No one at Cinch will call me back today. I did email the CEO Cinch Home Warranty Sheena Ali and of course no response from her either. I will keep looking for courses of action that I can take to resolve this problem. I’ve also attached pictures of the small leak.

Cinch Home Services used to be great, but with all of the changes and just them going up in price on everything and how things are done now, we hate it. We're considering switching over to somebody else because Cinch was one of the places that never nickel-and-dimed us, and all of a sudden, all of these changes were made. We've been with Cinch for years. We’ve been loyal to them. We get nickel-and-dimed for everything now. We're looking for somebody that's not going to do that. If somebody comes along and their package is better and it’s more of what we're looking for, we’re leaving Cinch.

Back then, we only had to pay $50. We pay our deductible, the contractor comes out and does this and that, and goes ahead and services whatever the problem we had. Now, we have to pay this deductible. We got to pay these people when they come out. If they deem it something else that has to be fixed, I have to keep coming out of my pocket with more money. It used to be not like that. I pay my $50 or $100 deductible, and that covered me. But now, there’s a payment attached to every little thing.

Look for somebody else. The people that have been with Cinch since the beginning should have been locked in to how it always had been. The new customers come on board get all of these other prices. When customers are loyal to a company, they need to show the people that they appreciate them staying with them and doing business with them.
