Cinch Home Services coverage and plans

Cinch Home Services sells three home warranty plans: an appliances-only plan, a systems-only plan and a combination plan (Complete Home).

It’s a pretty standard selection, but one standout feature is that it does include a $500 homeowners insurance deductible reimbursement as part of the combination coverage.

Also, its plans cover mechanical failures caused by rust, corrosion or sediment.

Premier Upgrade Package

The company also sells a Premier Upgrade Package for an additional $12.50 per month. This covers up to $10,000 worth of repairs or replacements within a contract year.

However, some systems and appliances still have coverage limits. For example, the company will only pay up to $2,000 per covered kitchen and laundry appliance (including access, diagnosis and repair).

Add-on coverage

There’s also a long list of add-ons available starting at around $5 per month, including:

  • Pool or spa only (heater included)
  • Pool with spa (heater included)
  • Septic tank/plumbing
  • Well pump coverage

Cinch Home Services cost

Cinch Home Services has three service fee options. The one you choose affects the overall monthly cost of your plan.

The higher your fee, the lower your monthly cost.

Choosing a higher service fee may be a good idea for homeowners who don’t expect to have a lot of service calls in a year but want to ensure they’re covered if they do.

Those who may have more issues in a calendar year could financially benefit from a lower service fee, even if the monthly cost is higher.

Cinch Home Services coverage exclusions

Like most home warranty companies, Cinch Home Services has some plan exclusions. Here are a few of the key exclusions:

  • Routine maintenance
  • Items covered by any other warranty, insurance or guarantee
  • Failures caused by anything other than normal wear and tear, like mold, neglect, "acts of God," etc.
  • Costs of construction, code upgrades, modifications, disposal of old equipment and more
  • Commercial-grade appliances
  • Flues, venting, chimneys and exhaust lines
  • Items without a visible model or serial number
  • Recalled or defective items (as determined by Consumer Product Safety Commission or manufacturer)
  • Improper installation or repairs
  • Anything below the slab or basement floor

Check your contract for a full list of exclusions

It’s important to note that each type of repair has its own exclusions. For example, cooktops are covered, but the company won’t replace a cracked glass top that was “misused” or “abused.”

Cinch Home Services coverage limits

The following items or systems have a coverage limit per agreement term.

How to file a claim

You can request service through your online account or by calling the company directly. You can often open the request and put in your preferred appointment time simultaneously to expedite the process.

Once the request is in, Cinch will provide a referral to one of its service professionals (usually within two hours during normal business hours). However, the company doesn’t guarantee when that service professional will schedule your appointment.

I’ve been handling the warranty and payments for our family home ever since it was first passed to us through a government repossession deal. It had a warranty with Cinch Home Services for the first year. Although the original warranty owner was my brother, Kelvin, it’s been my responsibility for the past decade. I needed to extend the home warranty after relocating the house ownership to my name. Over the years, they’ve been fairly responsive, especially with claims when submitted directly online, which speeds up the process significantly compared to calling in.

Yet, my most recent claim experience impressed me the most. A specific repair for the refrigerator was outstanding, thanks to the technician from Grays Appliances. Unlike prior attempts where AAA Appliance struggled to root out the issue fully, Grays got it right on the first try. I haven’t experienced any recurring problems since their tech's visit over a month ago. It feels as good as new, and I even reached out to the technician post-repair to express my satisfaction.

The only hitch came with a service hiccup regarding the warranty details being incorrectly listed under my brother's name. Resolving this required a bit of back-and-forth and three-way calls. Moreover, I find the pricing and service costs creeping up steadily. What started as a manageable monthly fee 13 years back has now escalated close to $65, likely prompting me to reassess my future coverage options.

Overall, apart from some minor hiccups regarding account handling and rising costs, my experience with Cinch Home Services has been predominantly positive, bolstered by effective and reliable service responses, especially recently. While I’m considering exploring different plans due to rising costs, my long history with Cinch represents a mostly stable and valuable relationship.

We acknowledge the service hiccup regarding the listing confusion of the warranty under your brother's name and appreciate your patience during the resolution process. Your concerns about rising service costs and the complexities they present are duly noted, and we assure you these points matter to us.

If there's anything else we can do to enhance your experience or if you consider adjusting your coverage options, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for trusting us with your home warranty needs for so many years; we value this longstanding relationship and look forward to continuing to serve you in the future. - Brooklyn

We had Sears’ coverage, and when they were on their way out, a friend of mine who runs an appliance repair business told me I should get on board with Cinch. They cover all your appliances for more or less the same amount of money, and if they can't cover it, they'll fix it. I like that if I had an old dryer break and they couldn't fix it, Cinch will either give me a replacement for no cost to me other than the deductible or they'll give me a payout. With the older plans we used to have, that wasn't an option.

I've Cinch them at least three times in the last few years. When I use them, I can do it online but calling is a bit of a challenge. It's hard for me to get another human. It's all automated. Also, sometimes I get someone who's hard to understand. It's a little difficult to have the back and forth when you're trying to be specific. But they're very and knowledgeable. I've never had to hang up or scream at somebody.

I prefer to use my friend because I know he won't mess around as opposed to a company I've never heard of, who may come out and may not do such a good job. I mentioned this to Cinch the last time we spoke to them that it'd be nice if I went online to put in a claim, I had an option to choose from a list of people that they have that I can choose. One time I called, they just gave me some company. I'm in New York on Staten Island and they sent out somebody from Brooklyn. It was not a good experience. The repairman came out and told me he'd get back to me but he never did. I actually forgot about it, and my wife reminded me. When I called the company, they said they were gonna take care of it. But two days later, Cinch emailed me with a payout. The repairman didn't do the repair and put it through as a total job. I called Cinch back and told them what happened. I also them them if they're just gonna give me a company, to not give me them.

The coverage is a little pricey, but things are pricey today. As my friend told me, even though I pay a $150 deductible plus $56 a month, it's still cheaper than calling him cold for him to come. He says he charges upwards of 250 just to walk in the door.

The best part of having Cinch is they either fix the issue or replace your equipment. I have had that situation happen in the seven years I've been with them. The downfall is communication between me and the companies that they send out to fix things. With Cinch, they don't give you any information to communicate. All it gives is an email and tells you, "This is the company that's coming out,” but doesn't give you a number to call. The company is supposed to call you. With the job I have, I can't always answer the phone in the middle of the day. I need to be the one to call them, instead of them calling me. When you call to talk to somebody through Cinch, they put you on hold till they call the person or call the company to find out who's coming to service your equipment.

But they send out people who are qualified to work on the items that are in your house. They'll ask you the serial numbers and give it to them. They send out a company that can fix it. But, if they're busy, they send out a secondary or the next person in line. For the most part, they're decent about fixing. The timetable it takes to get the stuff fixed is sometimes ridiculous, though. When my refrigerator went out, they couldn't fix it. They were gonna replace it. LG doesn't replace. So, they were sending me a check for what the original refrigerator cost. LG was not communicating very well. All they wanted to do was text or email. They didn't want to call me. For me to get anything done, I had to say that I wanted to purchase. They sent me a check for $1,500. But that took a month and a half for a refrigerator.

I also had my washing machine fixed. It took a month for it to finally be fixed. The first company they sent out said, "I need to change this motor or this part. The part is no longer made." They went back and they didn't relay any information to me. Cinch has a third party that they get parts from. They searched for the part and it was sent to me. I had to call Cinch to find out who was gonna come and put it in. They sent a private company out to fix it. The part they brought out or they ordered didn't fix the problem. The gentleman tried another part and it didn't work. The gentleman tried another part and it didn't work. Finally, the fourth time, he changed the part and it worked. But it took a little over a month for that to get fixed. But I'm satisfied with Cinch. It's just that the communication part is very aggravating.

I have the premium coverage. So I have not had too many things gone uncovered. What becomes problematic is as the deductibles go up, then one decides if there is something even worth calling them about since I don't know what the issue is. For instance, one issue ended up being a $29 part, and I would have done better to call somebody to just come out. But that's the risk you take. For the most part, I am pleased with Cinch. I've used it enough to know who I like coming to my home and who doesn't have to come back ever again. I had to retract my statement for my last claim because I found out it wasn't the company. It had been the technician that came out this time for the company. I had said flat out, “Don’t let them darken my door,” and did an excellent job. So it wasn't the company that was the issue. It was that particular technician.

Submitting the claim to American Home Shield is quite easy. It just that they make me get on my hands and knees to find serial numbers. Other than that, the process is fairly simplistic and very quick. For the most part, the contractors have been good and quite professional. My recent claim was for my dishwasher. It wasn't washing properly because the upper arm was not spinning. This was an instance where the job was assigned, and it was assigned to a company that I recognized the name immediately. So I told American Home Shield, “No. No, I know what he didn't do the last time. Don't send that company here.” I had to escalate. So I told them who I wanted and then gave the name and number.

We have a rep for Realtors. I call her and because she was traveling, driving, she got that name all wrong, and they signed it to someone else. But in the meantime, the original company kept sending texts asking, “Are you ready to schedule an appointment?” I said no. Then they told me, “They'll be there on Monday, between 8:00 and 12:00.” I said no again but I look out my door Monday at 8:30, and it’s the guy.

I knew immediately he wasn't the same person. I didn't commit to it. It just happened to I was here. So he came in and did a thorough assessment. It was a completely different experience than the prior technician from that same company. I told him, “All I ask is that I don't have to hand wash my dishes for Thanksgiving. That's all I'm asking.” He said, “We can make that happen.” Then on Tuesday, before Thanksgiving, he had us up and running. I'm completely satisfied with Cinch. It’s just how you have to communicate is frustrating.

I mostly have done my claim to Cinch online. I had several claims this year. Three of them were completed. I am having an issue with one of them, but I perceived the issue being more with the service provider and not Cinch. I had three plumbing issues and one issue with a dishwasher. The dishwasher issue's taken care of well expeditiously. My other two plumbing issues, a pressure water valve in the basement and a toilet issue upstairs, were both taken care of well. The other issue was a plumbing stoppage in my sink.

The reason why I perceived it as an issue with the service provider and not Cinch is that it took the service guy a bit too long to do that job. I've been in this house for 15 years. So, I've had that issue two other times in the last 15 years and usually, for something like that, a good plumber can knock that out in an hour at most. This guy was in my house for about four hours. He had to leave at one point and said they didn't have a part. It wasn't quite far. He was in there a bit too long for the issue.

Cinch has a policy that if an issue that was supposedly taken care of reoccurs within 180 days, then you can have a return service from that provider. So, I went online because the issue reoccurred. The job was done in late October of this year. The issue reoccurred right after Thanksgiving. I put in for a service provider to come back to my home and they were supposed to have been here on Friday, the 6th. I called twice, left a message, and they did not show up. So, I'm waiting. Cinch says online to give them up to two business days to get a diagnostic report from this person. So, I'm waiting to see how Cinch deals with that.

When I tried to call Cinch to schedule the jobs, I was on the phone for a while versus when I get online to do it, it's very expeditious. If you're self-motivated, self-starting kind of person, you do your own research, you read your own contract, you understand what you're getting into, and you use online to navigate, then you'll love Cinch. If you're the kind of person who needs to call and talk to a human being, you might not dig Cinch.

I've been with Cinch Home Services for about eight years, and initially, what drew me in was the ease of reaching a human representative whenever an issue arose. However, over time, it has become more challenging to speak directly to a person due to the automated process of entering tickets. Once the ticket is submitted, though, the service is prompt, and they typically send help within a day or two. Despite the increased difficulty in reaching a representative, Cinch still efficiently resolves the issues, which has kept me with them. I'd convey to any friend or neighbor considering their services that, although more steps are involved now, they get the job done effectively.

When we bought the property, Cinch Home Services was who we had the account with for the first year. My experience with them, however, has been far from ideal. Submitting a claim is a hassle; reaching anyone for assistance is quite difficult. On one occasion when I submitted a second claim, the contractor supposedly scheduled to fix the issue had no record of an account with Cinch, which left me confused and without support.

While the contractors themselves were competent in handling repairs, such as replacing a microwave and fixing a refrigerator leak, the communication from Cinch was severely lacking. It took two weeks just to get the microwave replaced, demonstrating poor efficiency and response times. There's nobody to talk to and their quickness isn't there. I won’t be renewing my membership after this experience, as Cinch does not come across as particularly professional.

I ultimately landed on Cinch Home Services for my home warranty needs and have been with them for about a year now. During this time, I've contacted them twice for services, and I've found them to be quite prompt, with everything proceeding smoothly. The process involves me raising a case number with Cinch, and then they allocate the job to third-party contractors who complete the repairs efficiently.

If a friend or family member were to ask me about Cinch, I would certainly recommend them. I'm even planning to renew my contract for another year if a good offer comes along. However, I found the cost to be on the higher side, given that I paid $200 for a minor water leakage repair. This would rate a 2 out of 5 in terms of pricing.

On the other hand, I've had a good experience with their customer service and would rate it a 4 out of 5. Overall, my satisfaction with their service and the results makes me confident in recommending Cinch Home Services to others.

I bought my home about 10 years ago and Cinch Home Services came with my first year and was known as HMS, but they eventually changed their name to Cinch. Since I had no problems with HMS, I decided to see how things would go with Cinch. I’ve been quite pleased with their services since then.

They have been reliable whenever I've needed them to check my home appliances. If something couldn't be repaired, they replaced it, which was reassuring. Responses have generally been timely, although some delays in parts are understandable, especially for non-domestic items. The good thing is, everything remained functional during those times.

The main issue I encountered was an increase in fees and deductibles post-COVID. Previously, the deductible was between $50 and $75, then it went up to $100 and eventually $200. This was quite a jump in a relatively short time. When that happened, it was during one of my last issues with my washer, but they always inform about these changes in advance in case you want to switch, although I’ve never felt the need to.

Customer service is mostly automated now, which can feel impersonal, aligning with the modern world's shift towards automation. I rated Cinch a 4 for overall experience and 5 for the pricing. Even the online tools and apps for setting up service requests are quite user-friendly.

Overall, Cinch Home Services has been a reliable choice for my home's needs. I appreciate the convenience and quality service they provide.
