Consumer Complaints and Reviews
I received an email about a sale on an item I've been waiting to purchase. Within 2 hours of receiving the email I went online to purchase the item. After going through the process the website said that this item was out of stock so I initiated a chat with one of their reps who basically told me that there was nothing they could do. I told them that nowhere on the sale does it indicate it was limited stock and they should back order and honor the price, to no avail. The next day I was searching for a similar product and the search returned this sale, this time apparently they have stock so I ordered it, it was processed and I was just waiting for the shipping information. Instead I received an email saying the price had gone up and in order to process my order I had to agree to pay the new price, really!!! I ordered it and received confirmation while the sale was ongoing and they won't honour it.
This is the second time I tried to order something that was on sale and they were out of stock, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! I will not ever consider any of their products and will be on a mission to inform as many people as I can. This company has no right to carry on business this way and it should be investigated for false advertising!
I bought a hygrometer-thermometer from Oregon Scientific and discovered soon that the relative humidity gauge is off by over 20% and the thermometer by about 5 degrees (in other words, it indicates 27.5 Celsius when it is 22.4 Celsius and 57% humidity when it is 35% humidity). I should have looked more carefully at this product. It is made in China and completely useless. I tried to get a refund, but the shop was awful. On the receipt, it carries a claim that no refunds will be made even on defective products. When challenged, I was promised a phone call from their manager. I am still waiting. This one is going to a small claims court! In short, not made in Oregon, not Scientific and dreadful attitude. Avoid Oregon Scientific!
I purchased 4 EMS-100 weather stations from MCM Electronics. The EMS-100 was new in the original boxes, originally from Oregon Scientific. All 4 represent a large number of problems. The software simply does not work. You cannot enter the city you live in. The graphical function does not work. The remote sensors died after a few days and the master unit has to be reset. They are fundamentally useless for what I bought them for.
I purchased this globe (smart pen/smart globe 3) Christmas 2011. My son barely used it as he was very sick for a few months after he got it. When he finally started getting better and had a chance to really begin to play with it, the smart pen did not work. After several emails back and forth with the company, I was told the pen was "faulty" but it only had a 90-day warranty. However, I could buy a new pen with a big savings. Wow! How to stand by your product! I get to spend more money on faulty products. The best place for the globe is the nearest landfill site and I am out $100 on a product that the company does not even provide at least a year's warranty.
Broken Vertical Attachment Bracket and Broken Versatile Base. Called Customer Service and the young lady said they don't have replacement parts. They only sell sensor units. So this $300 weather station is useless since I can't attach the sensor to the station (all sensors attach to this piece). She said China owns the company and does not send them parts. I will never, ever purchase a product from Oregon scientific, Inc again. If you read this, take heed.

Wireless Rain Monitor RGR126. Proprietary screws one must make a tool to install the batteries. Then once operating provides inaccurate, misleading information. A waste of effort and money no one should expend.
A scam on both the consumer and the manufacturer. An idea badly implemented and misleading advertising.
I purchased a weather radio which was then recalled. The substitute did not arrive for 4 months. It arrived without a charging dock. Weeks later a dock was sent after several requests. The radio will not charge, and Oregon Scientific will not answer my messages. Worst customer service ever!
Living in a hurricane and tornado prone area, I need a weather radio. Had to purchase another one.
I returned my Oregon Scientific weather radio under terms of their recent recall. The notice I received stated a replacement would be sent within 2-3 weeks of receipt. The UPS tracking states Oregon Scientific received the radio on 11/27/07. Three emails have gone unanswered. I have called customer support three times, only to be told they are having a high volume of calls and someone would call back. Of course, no one ever has.
I am out a weather radio that cost over $100.00. I have had no response whatsoever from this company.
Re: Recalled weather radio WR-108. Numerous emails regarding failure to send return address and prepaid label, as promised, have gotten nowhere. So, have not been able to return useless unit for replacement.
None yet, but we had a tornado warning the other night. The recalled unit was useless in this situation. The tornado did strike and did severe damage a few miles to the northwest.
OREGON SCIENTIFIC WEATHER FORECASTER AND ATOMIC CLOCK (MOD. BAR888A) MALFUNCTIONED. ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THE COMPANY AT AN 800 HELP LINE , ON THEIR PUBLISHED FAX LINE AND ON TWO ON_ LINE TECH SERVICE LINES POSTED BY OREGON SCIENTIFIC, OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD, HAVE PRODUCED NO REPONSES FORM THE COMPANY. THEIR PRODUCTS ARE INTERESTING BUT THEIR SERVICE IS NON-EXISTANT. EVIDENTLY THEIR PRODUCTS ARE DESIGNED AS THROWAWAYS, AS NO SERVICE OR SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE.
I bought a alarm/projection clock product model#BAR338PA which was advertised and also stated in the manual that if you hit the snooze button the time will be projected on the wall for 5 sec. This did not occur and I then called up customer assistance. The representative nastily explained that they removed that option after production. Nowhere on the box or the manual did they explain this new change.
One of the main reasons why I picked this product was for that option. There is false advertisement with no attempt to correct it. The product was $100 and I feel they should correct the problem.
Well, here's what it says on the company's Web site as of 11/1/01: "Product Features: Project Time and Temperature onto wall or ceiling. Reverse switch turns display 180 deg for your choice of easy viewing options." We'd say somebody isn't being very scientific in their description of the clock's features.
