I had been enjoying this service. I signed up for a promotional deal on my first five boxes. On the fifth box the order never arrived. I called the company last evening and they did issue a credit to my account not my bank account, my Green Chef account. I signed in this morning to order my next box, expecting that they would be honoring my fifth box delivery promotion. The app would not. So I contacted customer service this morning. They refuse to honor the promotion on the fifth box. Over $28, they would not give me the service and promotion I signed up for, even though the delivery of my 5th box never arrived to date (it should have been delivered last Friday). Today is Tuesday so obviously the contents will be spoiled by now. This company obviously uses promotions to get you on board and once you’ve bought in the practice unethical business conduct. I do not recommend.
We tried Green Chef for a month and usually had to throw out product due to it going bad by the time of arrival. They use way too much packaging, and the ingredients were only partially organic. They even billed me for boxes I had 'Paused' in their app. Overall the worst experience I have had with a meal delivery service.
This was a nightmare experience. I chose Green Chef after doing some research looking for a gluten free vegetarian option. In order to see a menu you have to set up an account. To set up an account you have to enter your card information. They immediately charge your card. I went in, saw that their menu didn't actually meet my dietary needs, one of which is such a severe allergy that I have an epi pen.. I immediately cancelled the account thinking that I would not get charged as I hadn't ordered anything.
Fast forward two weeks. A box of food I didn't order shows up at my doorstep. I check, sure enough it's not even vegetarian. It's two meat based meals and one deadly fish based meal. I check, no the account isn't active. It wasn't my mistake. I check my bank account, sure enough they charged on the spot when I setup the account. I call customer service. They refuse to fix the situation. They claim it is my fault because there is some notification that I will be charged for the first box even if I cancel. I ask, well, if I signed up for a vegetarian box, why did you send me a meat box?
I would understand having to pay if it were for the type of service I was signing up for when I was going through the questions, but I cancelled before even submitting an order! The man on the phone belittled me and told me it was my fault for not reading the fine print, then sat there and said that there is nothing he could do, that I should have paid more attention. Do not use this service.! Buyer Beware. I've used several other services and they were always very polite, quick to fix mistakes. Please, please please do not make the mistake I made of trusting them. They cannot be trusted. They will take your money and send you things you didn't order.
I had not even placed my order, planning to discuss it first with family. And then a few days later one of their boxes appeared and we were charged for it since they had access to my Google account. I called and they said they couldn't do anything about it. It was 6 days before the next delivery and they said they can't stop payment on that one either. The delivery was 6 days away and they are charging me anyway, even though I made it clear I had not authorized payments to begin with.
I have tried for five weeks and four out five weeks they did not package all the ingredient. Some times ingredients was missing out of two meals in one week. They promise credit but only saw some of the credit not what they promise. And when I ask to clarified the charges that was to be credits. You can don't see the previous month charges in the website. Save your money because it not worth the aggravation.
I'm not sure what they're trying to get away with here. Luring you in with a deal and the promise of organic food. I don't think cream cheese spread is organic. I'm pretty sure if you look at the ingredients they were not. The carrots definitely were not. I grew up on a farm and I know what organic taste like and this was definitely not organic stuff. Very disappointed.
Received our first kit today, looks like most of the ingredients are NOT organic - false advertising. Got a refund and canceled the subscription. Very disappointed, back to the drawing board to find a company that actually uses organic ingredients.
I was disappointed to learn that Green Chef calls itself organic just because they offer some organic ingredients. However most ingredients (especially meats) are in fact not organic. None are grass fed or pastured. The entire menu had one place where you can substitute for wild but salmon instead of conventional by paying extra. There were however no "upgrade" options available for most other proteins. There was one other meal where you can select "organic" beef instead of conventional by paying extra but again no grass fed/grass finished beef option available. If you don't mind eating conventionally raised animals then Green Chef maybe a good option but don't recommend for anybody looking for a strictly 100 % organic, pastured, grass fed option.
We did Hello Fresh for quite a while - due to a dietary change needed on behalf of my husband, we switched to Green Chef for more gluten free options. Multiple times we had shrimp delivered in packaging that had leaked, meat has gone rancid after just 3-4 days (when you buy a 3x a week meal plan you’d expect it to last a week), vegetables have mold within 4 days as well. It’s fine if you plan to cook everything on day of delivery but, let’s be real - if you do these plans you expect to be able to pick/choose between recipes over a week. If the idea is to reduce food waste, they completely miss the mark… and with a hefty price tag.
I ordered twice from Green Chef and both times I was disappointed. I selected the meal plan for four, 4x/week. Looks like they shop at the discounted produce isle...leaves are yellow, vegetables smells a little funny and everything is a bit mushy. They didn't pack enough meat for some of my meals, which I contacted customer service about. That experience was fine, although I had to be persistent to get a credit from them. The second time I ordered from them, everything arrived lukewarm...including my meat and seafood. It did not seem safe to eat but I didn't bother with customer service this time, wasn't worth my time...so the dogs got the meat and the chickens got the vegetables. I have used other services before with a much, much better experience. Don't waste your money here.
This company makes it impossible to stop unwanted deliveries. I explored the site, entered information, and then tried to cancel before even closing out the site. They began billing me and sending shipments even though I had cancelled my initial exploration. When I called to make sure they would honor my cancellation, they offered me a 1/2 refund for the unwanted shipment they had billed to my credit card. They then proceeded to bill me that reduced amount for further shipments even though I was very clear I had cancelled and was cancelling. Each representative I spoke to on the phone claimed that the previous representative misunderstood or was unable to process my cancellation. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! Their product is a good one, but their business practices are dishonest!
The only company of its type that advertises certified organic but, when/if questioned, they admit that not all their ingredients are organic. And there is no way to know, before ordering, which are organic or not. Also, the dairy-free options tend to only be the relatively few vegetarian options, yet many of us eat meat and not dairy. For those reasons, I cancelled subscribership before sampling.
We have been receiving Green Chef for about a month now. The food is delicious, the recipes varied. But the amount of packaging to get it to us is obscene: a cardboard box with two 1” thick full liners for insulation; two “ice” bags which when thawed are supposed to be emptied down the drain. It’s like a bag of clear Jello. Then there are all of the individual bags of ingredients labeled for use in the recipe. I don’t think the convenience is worth all of the by-product.
The ingredients are fresh and recipes are tasty. However, Green Chef's selection of Vegan meals leaves much to be desired. They all seem to be bowl-like entree that eventually all taste the same. Cooking with these recipes leave a lot of dirty dishes. Sigh.
